Dang, I didn’t even realize you could change their stats on the fly. No wonder people want them so bad over ascended.
B-th-b-…b-…n-…wh-b-…
Sigh
I have a few problems with this thread:
The only time I ever see Mesmers not wanted are when a group is advertising for “Heavies only” which is really just saying that they’re dumb, they’ll die, and they’ll leave a dumb corpse (yay Asura joke!).
Also, Bonetti’s Rapier is a… well, Rapier. You don’t slash with Rapiers. I’m sorry, you just don’t. Unless you parrying an attack, which isn’t really an accurate word when using a Rapier, it’s more of deflecting than a parry, you’re simply going to be stabbing. Now, I do love my Bonetti’s Rapier, but there’s a reason why I have yet to actually transmute the skin onto anything as opposed to my go-to sword skin.
I might get a Bonetti’s Rapier as my off-hand when I finish my ascended off-hand sword. Well, that will be after I finish my Infinite Light because Wooden Swords are the best. Yes, I wield Wooden Swords. Deal with it. [Wooden Sword]
And yes, I can finish my Infinite Light today, I just don’t want to liquidate some of my assets and be “poor” (not really, I just like having some gold to fall back on if I ever splurge. plus I’m slowly working my way, it’s like making my Legendary all over again!)
So only guildmates can be friends?
Oh, you mean skills to buy? Utility skills won’t really make a difference at the beginning, aim for Venoms, Signets, Stealth, and Scorpion Wire. Slot on Signets and Stealth. Don’t use the Signets unless you know what you’re using it for (the teleporting signet as a stunbreak AND teleport, not just a teleport). Don’t use the Stealth unless you’re running away, running through, or reviving someone.
Rotations, you can probably run D/D and spam Death Blossom. That’s always fun to level up, especially when paired with Caltrops. Lure as many mobs as you can, drop Caltrops and Death Blossom for days.
If you want a safer method of killing, run S/P. Use Pistol 5 to blind everything, then cleave with your sword auto attacks. Feel free to use Pistol Whip if you want (S/P3).
D/P is also safe, but since it’s single target (soon to be double target) it’s not that “good” for leveling up. Definitely is fun with shadow shot. Remember to use Heartseeker when the enemy is below 25%. If they’re at 50% or lower, it’s still good, but not always the best option (at least for now).
The reason why D/D and S/P are good is because they’re AoE (yes 2 daggers is AoE, wooo) so you can lure a few things together (or more with D/D) and then smack ’em all down gaining tons of exp (not really). It simply makes finishing Hearts or Events faster and allows you to progress instead of fighting things one by one, which thematically is cool, but really ends up just being inefficient and tedious.
This is my method, it might not be the most gold-efficient way, but it’s what I do.
Copper Fed Salvage-O-Matic:
White, Blue, Green
Mystic Salvage Kit:
Yellow
Black Lion Salvage Kit: CAREFUL HERE
Orange
Keep in mind, for any Yellow under level 68, I either sell on TP or use Copper Fed.
Mystic Salvage Kits are made using 3 Mystic Stones, 1 Journeyman, Fine, and Master Salvage Kit and are 250 use Master Salvage Kits.
I also have plenty of Disassembler Kits (250 use Basic Salvage Kits) for my other toons.
I then use the T5 mats to make my daily time gated T7 pre-mats, which I hoard until I ever get enough Dragonite.
CAREFUL With Black Lion Salvage Kits, make sure you check the price of the Rune/Sigil AND the price of the Item beforehand. If the price of both is about the same, salvage it for the Globs of Dark Matter and Ectoplasms (or chance of, to be precise). You’ll get the Rune/Sigil so you won’t “lose” any money, especially if you don’t get anything nice. If there is a price disparity, go for whichever sells for more.
One possible method that will incite tons of ragequitting would be to reduce all Power and Condition Damage scaling by 90% making them all around as good as Healing Power. This would effectively give everything a large health boost while also maintaining Toughness, Vitality, and Healing Power’s role in survival. Base damage would still exist, but fights would be long, drawn out attrition battles allowing support builds to thrive. Of course, there are things that would need to be looked at if this change were to occur, such as many, many events and even dungeon encounters (not typically bosses, but just encounters, although some bosses would have to be looked at [I’M LOOKING AT YOU ALPHARD—that is, fighting you non-cheesy]).
Some encounters that would be unplayable without cheese/full-support-teams after this:
Waiting for Magg to blow open the door.
Waiting for gate console to die in CoF.
Alphard.
Brie.
Fractals.
Krait.
Some encounters that would greatly improve from this change:
Lupicus.
CoE golem security console (would need AT LEAST 2 people to attack golems, stopping the cheese 1-4 strat).
AC Charr path (Dessa?)
Basically, it would cause all the mechanics that require teamplay to require more teamplay. Certain fights would need to get toned down to accommodate this, which ends up making it a lot more effort than it’s worth, especially since none of the things I talked about (bar Krait) are about open World PvE which is what would hurt a lot from this.
It would also punish solo roaming WvW.
Which traits are you talking about? For Revealed Power, you’re going to want to CnD→Backstab, wait until Revealed is at 1s, CnD→Backstab (wait until 1s on Reveal because of animations. CnD takes a while to stealth thereby giving you the most out of your CnD). Don’t forget to rotate behind the mob WHILE stealthing, not after.
Additionally, when the mob is at 50% or lower, switch to D/P (if you have it on) and drop a Blinding Field every so often to get a stealth HS → Revealed → Revealed Training. Although that costs a lot of Initiative, so have fun.
Woooo~
Don’t take my advice too seriously, I don’t know how effective the advice is since my Thief doesn’t even have Revealed Training unlocked!
Actually, without spending any gold or $$ on gems, you can/could have Quartz Crystal Formation, Candy Corn Node, Watchwork Sprocket, and, iirc, Krait Obelisk Shard (Skill Point for level 10+, mainly intended for charging QC).
Had the effect where iLeap did the iHop. I even stood back and waited for the clone before realizing he wasn’t going anywhere. I proceeded to walk forwards and passed the clone as he kept getting stuck on the hills.
Well, there’s also the “HEY WE FIXED WARDEN AGAIN… not really…”!
Mighty, Honed, Berserker’s.
Look for those three prefixes, with the furthest on the right being the best, but for a much higher level.
I hope all of you talking about the stat change on the fly realize that you can buy all stats of an ascended weapon (yes buy, that means pay for everything except Vision Crystals) for about the same price as a Precursor alone. With the other thousand gold (or more, depending on what Legendary you’re going for), you can get max bag slots and fill them with 20 slot bags. From there, you now have stat swapping weapons on the fly while out of combat.
If you’re going to say: “But Esplen, we don’t have that much inventory space!” 1000g is more than enough to reach 160 inventory slots and I have 8 full armorsets on my Mesmer, 6 of which I carry or wear with me at all times. I also have 14 Swords, 10 of which I carry with me, 3 Staves, 2 of which I carry with me… want me to continue…? I haven’t even reached my Potions/Foods/Consumables/Fun Items.
Did I mention I rarely ever run out of inventory space? The one time I ran out was because I went a week without going to a bank or merchant, so my inventory was filled with Sigils, Runes, and Junk (Gray).
Although, yes, I do have a Legendary. I don’t wear it all the time, nor do I care that it’s “super awesome rararaaa”. I made it because I wanted it as a part-time goal to work towards when I was bored. I slowly gathered up the materials, then right at the end, did a burst buy and sell spree where I liquidated a lot of my assets and bought the materials from people in LA (did not use TP to save myself a few silvers). Also bought my pre for somewhere between 200-300g back then. I don’t use my legendary as a symbol of money or prowess. I like the purple glow and, because I’m Asura, you can’t see the weapon itself, anyways. Also, Mesmers and lots of confetti play well together. If only they affected Phantasms somehow. Sucks having only one attack (on a 25/20 second cooldown) that makes the sound and shoots the animation.
Tl;dr:
Woooooooooo~ can go from Berserker to Berserker while out of combat! Or Rabid to Rabid! Wooooooo~. Wait a minute…
What happens when they say they fix something but it doesn’t get fixed? Does that count as a buff, a nerf, or what? I wouldn’t bring this up if it didn’t happen often for us.
Dear lord, how about they nerf necro passive fears instead?
Warrior has nerfs coming; they haven’t even -dropped-.
I’m totally for a nerf to nightmare rune and reaper protection if hard counters like berserker stance / diamon skin don’t exist
How about both of them not exist and we just hit each other with sticks.
I’m down, my Mesmer has 6 Wooden Swords in my inventory/equipment.
Given that the only way to give something to a friend or guildmate is to mail it, we need to be able to mail it.
If they were in other guilds they wouldnt see his offer to give away dyes in guild chat anyways.
See bolded section.
You know that there are profession balances coming Soon™, right? Dulfy has a list of engineer, ranger, warrior, and thief balances mentioned in the livestream.
What I want to see is a dedicated necro stream. I’m sure the 2 minutes it would take them to gloss over whatever fixes they implement would make for an entertaining laugh. Seeing as at this point I’m sure even they don’t know what to do with us.
Pats your back
Mesmers are with ya… let’s see how they screw us over this time. Although with you guys, they’ll just propose something stupid, with us they’ll say something useful and great, and then never deliver… or say something stupid and then make it even worse along with nerfing us some more.
As for whoever said that you can skip data collection by playing the game, that’s how you get balance pidgeonholed into kitten fests of whichever profession has the most balance team users on it (or the person at the top, cough Karl cough). Last time I checked Karl plays Warrior for the most part. That doesn’t reflect at all in-game, not one bit. Look at how well that’s gone for us.
I think the designers have done a great deal to give a cape feel without having capes. You think clipping is bad now? Capes….will….be….horrible.
Kilts/waist wraps would be better. The point is they avoid the clipping you will have with Capes.
Actually, they’ve been slowly and secretly fixing clipping issues. There’s still a lot to be done, especially with mix-n-match armor, but they’ve been working on hat and glove clipping recently.
Some examples I can think of off the top of my head:
Masks, both from HoM and Gem Store, no longer clip THROUGH your hair and instead have set portions of each hairstyle to be “in front” or “behind” the mask.
Ice Lord’s Diadem, see above.
Heavenly Bracers, no longer clips through hands — appropriately scales and centers on arms.
There are a few others, like the bone and leather helm for Mediums that is found in Orr Karma Merchants, I think. It still clips, just not as bad, iirc.
Still waiting for pants and shoe interaction, although pant and weapons/hands will be near-impossible without having custom animations for each combination.
The combo system is well done? The failure that is the combo system is the reason for melee stacking.
The combo system is the reason everything feels the same, because it is all you got to understand and then bunch up and burn down whatever gets close (or stuck in a corner). The stacking meta is in place because of an easily exploitable AI system that basically hand feeds you PvE mobs to be cut down simply by hiding behind a corner. It’s true that stacking helps the combo system be more effective, but it is definitely not the primary reason for it.
You both hit some of the reasons, I think Kai just had some wording that made it seem like that was the only reason stacking and combos are useful.
I do see a valid point that’s been sidelined in all this: the mail spam limit is ridiculously low. Suppressed on the third set of dyes I send to guildies when I listed dyes in gchat and asked who wanted which ones? A royal pain! I understand the need to throttle gold sellers but as has been noted many times by many people, it’s too harsh when it throttles legitimate interaction. Given that the only way to give something to a friend or guildmate is to mail it, we need to be able to mail it.
Guild Banks, just saying.
Works for guildies, but assuming your friends are in different guilds, you need to be in the guild for 3 days to have access to the bank.
What I would consider is a fair offer.
Most of us bought pre-purchase and pre-orders double the price they sell these times, and those weren’t even giving those minimal kind items that you’ll get now at half price.
Upgrading would cost 2000 Gem, jeez. So, what about to give some real care to those who was loyal, supporting from the beginning?
The Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Edition are worse than the Heroic Edition (other than the swag in the Collector’s Edition, if that catches your fancy). The Digital Deluxe bonuses are all one-time, non-transferable, character-specific rewards (bar the mini). Additionally, the Digital Deluxe is offered in-game.
The Heroic Edition, which came out months after both of these versions, offers one single item that alone is more beneficial to a player starting out (heck, I didn’t upgrade out of 15 slot bags until about a year into the game) in addition to netting them over 800 gems in swag. So by buying the game, you get an 18 slot bag (~2-3g’s worth, iirc [keep in mind, around release, this would actually be even higher]), and over 800 gems (well over 100g’s worth, at the current market value [to be fair, near release, this would be around 1g’s worth]).
The Digital Deluxe Edition will get you (disregarding the Heroic slapped on nowadays) a mini (does nothing unless running Ranger runes), an elite (which is arguably useful if you have no skill points for an actual elite, but still requires level 30), and a 2 week banker for each of your characters (soulbound). The Digital Deluxe version is $20 more, or 2000 gems (2000 gems is NOT $20, it is $25). Ignoring the Chalice of Glory and Tome of Influence because they are not significant in any form, shape, or way.
The only advantage to getting the Digital Deluxe Edition would be for Keyrunners (storing keys/gear), people who want a Summon Elite but don’t have one from their race, which is Norn, and people who forgot to save up enough Skill Points to get an Elite.
The reason why the 2 week banker is insignificant is because the 2 week duration is pitiful and you can’t move it from character to character. Sure, if you could move it from character to character, anyone with the Digital Deluxe would “permanently” have a 2 week banker, assuming they had a spare character slot, but most people hate moving gear, mining tools, salvage kits (assuming you have 250/infinite versions), and food/potions from character to character.
Also, most new players will forget to use their Elite, along with other skills.
Basically, for all the legacy players, Anet turns their back and says: “Here, newcomer, have some cookies. Don’t worry, there’s plenty to go around, but we’ll share them with you guys only!” Which, the new player doesn’t quite understand but takes and eats and forgets about it entirely thinking everyone has it, when that’s not true.
Of course, the actual benefit of the boosters is much more than simply getting “10 Experience Boosters”. If you knew what you were doing, you could convert those “10 Experience Boosters” with a little bit of money and a single skill point into a whopping boost of 250% bonus experience. If you add in a little bit of karma and/or coin, you can get an additional 10-25% bonus, and with a helpful guild another 10-15%.
That means within an hour or two of starting the game, assuming you’re near peak hours and able to find a big guild, you’ll be able to get a bonus exp of 290%. This means you’ll be getting a total of 390% normal experience. I forgot if this stacks with “Exploration Bonus” aka “That Bonus For Killing Things That Haven’t Respawned In A While”, but if it does, that’s pretty big… not that most people know how to do any of this.
And after many tangents, that’s how I interpret it.
Confusion on death for GM minor trait is so underwhelming. 25 pts just for that?
Don’t worry, mang, it’s only 5 points, so you still have 25+40 points to spend elsewhere. 1+8 points to spend elsewhere. Oh wait…
Could I get a link to that post?
I use to buy at least 800 gems at month to support Anet . . . i will not support a game that encourage noob players to do rule the game.
Ironically, this will actually encourage players to not be as nooby and to mitigate damage without having a one-button avoid all in PvE. In PvP and WvW, it’s not going to be a game breaker, but it will definitely shake things up… well maybe not in WvW.
There are some items with these modifiers, such as Fiery Dragon Sword with the (Fire) damage type. It simply lights up anyone killed by it, which is kind of confusing.
A relic from a lost game, I suppose…
- pretty nice concept … which turns out to be a lie and gets “fixed” before release
Fixed that for you.
Sorry about my pessimism, I’m very excited about the Mesmer Ready Up which is actually making me very sad because I know I’m going to get disappointed. I just can’t help getting my hopes up, even though I know they’ll be F1’ed before the update patch.
Get it… my hopes will get shattered before the update? Okay, I’ll go back to work now…
Well, in PvE, most mobs don’t attack more than once every 2 seconds (if not longer), anyways. They might have some strikes that hit more than once, but you really shouldn’t have an avoid-all button, scratch that, you shouldn’t have a prevent-all-damage-while-letting-yourself-and-team-kill-mobs-without-repercussion button.
And “spamming” (not mashing) Pistol5 isn’t very intuitive gameplay. Even Warrior requires more thought than that, and that says a lot… especially coming from me… and talking about a Warrior. The most thought you have to put into it is:
Is my field down? Y/N.
If Y: Drop field. Repeat from top.
If N: Repeat from top.
I always think of Ice Frog from DotA2. He basically follows Kai’s approach and DotA2 is in a pretty stable state unlike the other notable games in its’ genre.
anet is probably already having a hard time enough with players constantly summoning pets/illusions/bots/CPUs in a matter of seconds, which takes up a significant amount of memory; mesmers are doing this CONSTANTLY in combat, i doubt they’re going to give us any more illusions haha.
besides, we have a decent heal anyway, a signet for phant mesmers that heals you roughly 1k hp per second if you have the illusions up, and ether feast, which can heal loads, you just have to have the illusions up.
Yehp, because everyone has 3 Illusions up in PvE, PvP, and WvW.
If you’re running SotE for the 333 heal/second, you’re most likely doing it wrong. It’s used for the active refresh.
If you’re looking at heal/time, Ether Feast is still better, because (again, we’re assuming you have 3 illusions up at all time to maintain the 333 heal/second) it’s a total of 7480 Health Every 21 seconds (20s + 1s cast time).
Maffs: (5560Heal + 640Heal/Illus * 3Illus) / 21Sec = ~356 Health/Second.
SotE: 1000 Heal / 3Sec = ~333 Health/Second.
Now, if you want to argue that you can activate SotE for a “burst” heal, you are again wrong because that would be: 5560Heal / 36Sec = ~154 Health/Second.
The reason why SotE is such a “low” heal is because it has the same heal as Ether Feast (minus the bonus per illusion) on a longer cooldown. It’s not intended to be used except for 2 reasons:
1: You need health fast and now, and/or your illusions are dying.
2: You need to get more Phantasms out fast.
Assuming, again, that your Illusions never die. It’s still irrelevant to run SotE because you can get all 3 Phantasms (PHANTASMS, not ILLUSIONS) out within 5 seconds of a fight without activating it. Simply put on a weapon, cast the phantasms, as soon as it’s done, switch (manually through inventory or hero panel, quickly) to another weapon, cast Phantasm. Weapon Swap, cast Phantasm. Boom 3 Phantasms.
If you’re too lazy, drop a Phantasm, use your Clone Generation skill on the appropriate weapon (unless it’s Scepter, in which case cry because you should feel bad), swap weapons, use Phantasm. 3 Illusions in less than 5 seconds.
Again, all of these assumptions are based on maintaining 3 Illusions for the duration of the fight. However, things get hit and die, meaning you won’t be maintaining 3 Illusions and, since the skill is on a 3 second interval, you are actually hardpressed to maintain 3 Illusions. If a phantasm dies right before the interval ticks, you can’t replace it. If it was every second, you could wait for the next interval, but waiting 6 seconds to get the much needed heal? No thank you.
I go over the problems of SotE vs Healing signet in this post
I tried to go over both sides equally but I do main a Mesmer, so keep that bias in mind… then again, we’re on the Mesmer subforum.
Incoming Tangent!
I think the first step on the road to getting Confusion fixed would actually, ironically, be Winds of Chaos not applying Vulnerability. If it was swapping between Burning and Bleeding, that would actually be a bit ridiculous in terms of DPS for a Condi Mesmer, and tacking on Poison would make it innately counter healing (3 Clones + Player = 4/3 chances of getting Poison, not guaranteed, but pretty darn high).
I honestly don’t agree with it getting Confusion because it goes against the idea of bursts of Confusion, but it does make the more sense.
Which brings us to Chilled, Blind, and Torment. Of those, only one actually deals damage, and would justly make sense. The other two wouldn’t be as bad as Vulnerability, and would keep in line with the defensive purpose of Staff.
Chilled would potentially make it hard (or simply annoying) to keep up with you, especially since it’s going to have such a short duration. It’ll be like watching a kid trip on rocks while still running at you.
Blind wouldn’t be overpowered and would probably still be as bad as Vulnerability since if all of your Winds of Chaos did Blind, it would still only mitigate one attack. On the other hand, that assumes that they all connect at the same time, so you could more realistically mitigate 2 attacks and, if you’re lucky, upwards of 4 or even more.
Torment makes sense because it punishes players for moving at you while also not being too significant in terms of damage (since we are only applying one stack on low duration, woooo).
My reasoning for the tangent to Staff is because for Anet to fix something that’s unintended or harmful to a profession, they have to admit it’s… unintended or harmful to a profession. Vulnerability on the Staff is harmful to the profession.
EDIT: Btw its probably nerfed because of some “real player drunkards” standing in it aswell. Complaining that they can’t spam their skill quickly enough to get trough the blinding field.
Reminds me of trying to kill Orrian Turrets in Arah on my Necromancer… You NEED a Staff… and (at least for Path 1) some crazy jump shots for the first two Turrets (at the Ooze boss).
It adds a buff to you that looks similar to Spotter, Empowered Allies, etc (shows trait number). Because of this, it acts like an Aura where you gain the effect, but any time you regain it, it refreshes to it’s maximum duration as opposed to stacking (either duration or intensity).
At least, that’s what it SHOULD be doing, unless Anet forgot to make it inline with other Professions, which isn’t too farfetched, sad to say.
I didn’t want to talk about the Mesmer because I have too many complaints about things they’ve ignored since Beta…
But Anet has, like many other companies, gone through the phases of a bad balancing team.
They do their own thing, which makes sense to them and rolls along. The players don’t see the greater picture and whine. Loud minority gets to balance team, balance team changes something because of player feedback, kitten storm ensues (both between balance and causality) balance team no longer listens to players. Balance team stops talking to players. Balance team does their own thang and forgets about the greater picture.
^ Paraphrased and not entirely true.
Keep in mind, over the course of 2014 we were supposed to see more weapon variety for professions, newer Legendaries (and not updates to the current ones), Precursor Scavenger Hunt, more Fractals, more Ascended variety, more usage for Agony slots, more clothing choices, and the wrap up of LS1.
So far we’ve had: Fractals, Ascended variety, usage for Agony slots (sort of…), clothing choices (again, sort of…), and the wrap up of LS1.
The ones we have yet to see and will not see by the end of the year, most likely, are:
Weapon Variety, Legendaries, and Precursors.
and a scavenger hunt that involves killing high level mobs in dead zones causing them to become popular.
FTFY
I thought Kasmeer could make 10 (commoner storyline) and Jennah could make an infinite (crown pavilion).
Heck, Jennah is so “powerful” that she doesn’t even care that she’s still giving the Watchwork Knights illusionary effects/visuals even after they were taken over by Scarlet… yet she doesn’t like to fight.
Also, Kasmeer has Feedback on a 5 second cooldown and TW on a 20 second cooldown.
In a perfect world, ANet would just use a standard top down approach on QA on identifying problems.
How much active time played has each profession?
In what type is the respective profession played how frequently?
What are the most commonly used traits, utility and weapons in the different game modes?
What are the least frequently used traits, utility and weapons in all game modes? And than they should take the last question for the least played profession in its least played game mode and start fixing this. After that they can balance the more frequently used stuff.
Rinse repeat, welcome to the never ending cycle of balancing in an MMO.
This isn’t actually that standard, although it is very logical and ideal. This keeps everything fresh and “in the meta” because if it falls off, it gets put onto the priority fix-list.
Also, it feels like a lot of their… lack of making changes is due to them, Anet, not wanting to admit to making a mistake. This trait is underused? It’s the players fault, it’s fine number-wise! This utility is underused? It has it’s niche use, even if we (both Anet and playerbase) can’t find it, right?!
And that’s why we’ve gotten to the point where we get 6 month patches that “fix” these problems. The only problem I have with that is that with each fix, at least 2 more problems arise, meaning you’d have to wait even longer to get things fixed.
Personally I would love it if instead it gave a stat boost for each attunement.
Similar to what the trait lines give but on a smaller scale. Say +30 or so to effected stats.
Arcane Fury or Lingering Attunements? I feel that Arcane Fury doesn’t last nearly long enough for much usage, it might go off one one or two attacks, but that’s it. Then again, especially paired with Fresh Air, if it was higher, you could stack near indefinite Fury by swapping attunements constantly. That would kind of kill traiting into Fire for the blast unless you wanted to give party Fury, which is sometimes lacking, even with lots of Warriors running around.
That actually is a fair idea, although I think it might have just been an oversight on one of the teams. It felt, to me, like a kitten idea to get more people to mine Cypress instead of ignoring it because we get enough wood from salvaging.
What nearlight said. Also, keep in mind a lot of people that do a lot of theses or just 1 a day have banks full of ascended rings, so I wouldn’t rush and obtain them through laurels, guild comms or any other way and I would get them through fractals. Literally banks full.
I have about 30 Rings, not counting the ones I have on all my level 80s. I also had 4400 Fractal Relics until recently (after having bought 2 backpieces, a handful of Gifts of Ascension, and all of the bags, some twice). I then spent them all on Bloodstone Shards because I wanted to do some more Ascended Crafting and realized I wasn’t using my Relics.
For gearing up on Ascended, this is my method (feel free to disagree or not follow it):
Trinket: WvW Vendor (20 Laurels + 250 Badges)
Time Gated: At least 10 days (10 dailies + 1 monthly).
Accessories: Guild Commendations Vendor (12 GC + 5 Gold | Total 24 GC + 10 Gold)
Time Gated: At least 2 weeks for one or 4 weeks for two (6 GC per Week).
Rings: Fractals (Free running Fractals).
Time Gated: At least 2 days for one or 4 days for two. If starting anew, upwards of 10 days for 1 or 15 days for two. Minimum time required: 1 day for 1 and 1 day for 2, RNG based.
How does the ring work?
If you’re at rank 40+:
Run 1-9 + 10-19 + 20-29 + 30-39 + 40-50 for a total of 5 Pristine Relics in one day.
If you’re at rank 1:
10 runs will get you to Rank 11 and one Ring. You can now get 2 Pristine Relics in one day. 5 days and you get your second Ring.
1 day: Ring drops in Fractal Reward Chest.
Keep in mind, with each Fractal you’re looking at around 1-2 hours of time (usually doesn’t take 2 hours, but it’s better to have the time than to have to leave early, especially if you’re the host of the Fractal).
Keep in mind, with the way Confusion works… it’s not meant to be applied in high uptime with tons of stacks, it’s supposed to be a burst of Confusion that lasts for a decent amount of time, followed by little to no Confusion and then another burst.
Of course, Mesmer doesn’t have that, either, because when we were able to do that, Anet deemed us OP and put us in the corner for being able to play the game.
Funny how you guys took the one sarcastic part of his post seriously…
Honestly, a 1h ranged power weapon or any melee weapon would be nice, even if it’s a condi melee weapon (although good luck making it relevant, Anet).
If it’s a condi melee weapon, it’d be more for fun than anything.
AND I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHOOT LASERS. I KNOW ELEMENTALIST HAS CHARGED PULSES AND GREATSWORD HAS LASERS, BUT I MEAN LASERS LIKE THE ORRIAN BEAMS OF AWESOME.
hate to say it, but, while i dont main a mesmer or engineer, the notes from the stream about the changes they wanted to tell us about dont seem dramatic… like at all..
ranger doesn’t look like its getting any game changers, its still a class bound to its pet and handicapped for damage.
Engi’s new heal is getting a buff and their overtly annoying ability to CC the kitten out of anything that lacks a 20s stability is still left entirely intact.
I dont see anything meta shaking so far for PvE or WvW or sPvP and my hopes arent high that we will until maybe 2016? 2020 at the latest…’
As for what mesmers will get… Maybe some promised bug fixes that won’t show up or need atleast 5 to 7 patches to actually take effect and make it into the game… a handful of new bugs, a return of some old bugs, a sorry from anet 2 months later
oh and maybe a nerf to PU to bring its effectiveness back into line with the rest of the class.
What i don’t expect and will be mildly surprised if it pops up, a proposed rework of the class and its mechanics and an admittance to kittening up creating a class so tied up in half baked AI and balanced only for 1v1 combat.
and…
I retain the ability to edit this post tomorrow when I am less drunk and grumpy..
And it’ll appear as fixed in the patch notes 5 times before just not being shown at all and ignored until it re-appears a few months later in a patch note, still unfixed.
-snip-
Thanks for pointing this out, I forgot that it’s multiplicative and not additive!
Okay, I suppose I should/could just test it, but I’m at work and no steady weapons makes it annoying (not too bad, though) to test it out.
On the other hand, if it did work with those traits, you could attain ridiculous bonus damage amounts (not with 100% uptime). 20% from Air, 20% from Water (Piercing Shards instead of Vital Striking), 10% from Earth, 10% from Scholar. Could also add in 10% from Fire if you don’t take Fresh Air (which would kind of defeat the purpose, but you would get a whopping 1 second of 70% bonus damage).
I checked the Wiki, but don’t feel satisfied, does this trait also apply to other traits, such as Air Training and Internal Fire (Bonus Damage while Attuned)?
The wording makes it seem as though it would, yet the Wiki states that it only affects 4 traits, all Minor.
If it does work, it would be interesting to go 15 points into Arcana for a “permanent” 20% boost to damage from Air Training in a Fresh Air build. Could also be used as an indicator for when Fresh Air is off cooldown.
If you bought it DURING Season 2 Episode 1, then yes, you should ask for a refund.
I’d rather see Mainhand weapons without offhand. It makes more sense to wield a 1h sword than 2 1h swords. Having a dagger in the offhand makes sense for quick parries or blocks.
1 Sword makes a lot of sense, but can be wielded in many, many different ways, which all change how it’s used (use with 2h’s, different poses, etc).
Well a main-hand with no off-hand is just… a main-hand with no changes.
Except I’m quite sure most players (or even people, in general) aren’t ambidextrous meaning that wielding an Axe, Mace, Sword, Pistol, Focus, Warhorn, or even Torch in your offhand will actively harm your movement, like wearing heavy armor. Gauntlets and Daggers are typically so small and light that they can be considered extensions of your arm (well, a Gauntlet literally is that) to allow quick and easy reflecting/parrying or blocking.
And while you might say that Pistols are easily wielded in both hands, remember that most pistols in GW2 are not current-age pistols. They more resemble pistols that require reloading after each individual shot (inb4 someone posts a picture of a pistol skin, wooooo~).
Thieves have skills that appear when they have no offhand. It was added in so that they have 3 skills in the Tutorial, but at the same time the idea is a good one. In implementation, it’s just a really weak version of a dual skill, but I would like to see players get this choice (and possibly make them slightly stronger, if in different ways versus just being “X SKILL BUT WEAKER”).
Of course this would then bring up problems such as: What if I wear Sword in mainhand + Sword in Offhand, and then in my second set I have just a Scepter. The game will put a Sword offhand in both my offhand slots, so I would need a method of choosing which one goes where, etc.
Yay if no ear clipping.
Nay if we can choose to toggle (well, that kind of encapsulates both).
What I’d like to see is ear accessories that persist when our ears are shown. It’s the main reason why I chose the ponytail hair, but if I wear any hats that remove my hair, but not my ears, I don’t have my ear guards.
Also, Anet has been slowly working on hair clipping, so maybe we’ll get some ear love (Ice Lord’s Diadem no longer clips through EVERY HAIR IN EXISTENCE).
