I’m sure they’ve said it, but I feel like it’s being misquoted just like the “Play how you want” quote.
In their minds…
Asura and Sylvari don’t share starting zones. They do, however, share the Maguuma Jungles, which is why they look so similar.
This wouldn’t solve anything.. the PvE itself is structured around raw power (un-crittable objects, like gates in WvW, are a clear example of that) and conditions simply are not as fast as power at killing. The only way to make them viable (not optimal, though) would be to let ALL condi stack more than 25 stacks, but this is impossible due to technical limitations.
Technically, with the way cloud is going now, it’s definitely possible and within reach, it’s just not practical to be spending extra money for players to deal more damage which you then have to balance for. You’re basically paying more money to pay more money to please people, which hasn’t been done in the gaming industry for a while.
And increasing the 25 stacks is not a technical limitation, but having it have infinite/no limit, is. Eventually something will screw up when you have that much computing, even if you outsource it to cloud.. actually, especially if you outsource it to cloud.
While it is possible for them to increase the stacks, it would increase strain on their servers, particularly when there are lots of bosses up (see: Dry Tops). Additionally, they would have to rebalance (as stated before) because the game has kind of fallen into place with everything now. Arenanet is afraid of making big changes because they will disrupt the place where the game has fallen, although I believe it should be shaken around and causing dirt to get stirred up because the place it is could be better.
They always have a sale on a weekend. If I’m ever planning on buying something, I ask myself when it goes out of stock (if it goes out of stock) and if I want it, need it, or really want it.
If it’s the latter two (never the need, but I include it there), I will buy it as is unless it’s Wednesday or later and the item isn’t going away until after the weekend.
If it’s the first, I’ll wait until I’m impatient or it goes on sale.
You do know the only Dwarf left is so old he looks like his brethren (kudos if you get the reference).
Also, Asura and Sylvari could merge their zone but be on opposite sides due to cultural and historical aspects of the game. You could also have an Ebonhawke version with Humans/Charr getting the same thing.
So can Blink, Lightning Flash, and Necrotic Traversal. Of course, they all have significantly higher cooldowns/cost, making them not as easy to use as IA.
Defiance would undermine Waste Not Want Not.
Also, if you run the “standard” 6/4/0/0/4 or 6/6/0/0/2, you can slot Harmonious Mantras, activate your Mantras, then unslot it.
No, I completely understood. You strike me as one of those people who assumes anyone who disagrees with them must not understand them because if they understood their point the sheer obviousness of it would cause instant agreement. What you fail to understand is that two people can look at the same data set and draw differing conclusions even if they agree on the underlying numbers.
Your example is flawed for the following reasons…
1. At the most basic level, anyone who is so casual as to only be able to acquire 500g in 3 months (something like 5g per day) should consider whether their goals match their commitment. Perhaps it is reasonable, perhaps it isn’t I make no judgments. But if you do feel like you’re barely treading water to you goal perhaps some re-evaluation is in order. If my goal was to be in the top 1% of competitive PvP and I was only able to put in about 40 minutes per day of practice (roughly 5g worth of playtime) and I found I wasn’t really rising much on the leaderboard I would similarly reconsider if my goal was reasonable.
2. You cherry picked a time post feature patch when demand for Dusk skyrocketed. Just as similarly, I could say that if he had begin grinding January 1, and had 500g on April 1, he would only have been 300g away from his goal. If he had started May 1 2013 and had 500g by Aug 1 2013 he would only have been 100g away.
3. The gap closes. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29185 Does that look like inflationary spiral to you? That looks to me like a fairly stable price that had a demand shock in April 2014 and has already begun to level off. If you argue the gap never closes I would have to cite the specific rate of inflation you claim (i.e. the price of dusk is increasing 5g per day and that rate is unchanging) as well as prove that a player’s earnings cannot equal it.
1. Again, I am happy with people achieving their goals at different rates. I guess we fundamentally disagree on the point that two people should be able to progress towards their long term goal at a measured pace. If player A plays twice as much as B, I’m fine with player A finishing in half the time. It is bad IMO when the system is set up currently, and it actually takes player B 4x as long. (see below)
2. A player starting the grind any time from somewhere around last November until now would still be SoL and would not have caught up. The selection of an illustrative time period does not mean that it is the only period that could apply.
3. In stock parlance, that trendline is not broken. See these others and tell me that it is leveling off: Zap
Spark
legendDrawing a trendline connecting the bottom buy price dips (e.g. Mar 19 = 562g, Jun 13 884 for legend) you get an increase of about 3.75 gold/day. The other three are also around 3.7g/day increase.
If earning 5g/day, fully 75% of your effort goes to just make up for the increase and only 25% of your effort is effective. This functions as a highly regressive tax that severely penalizes those happy to achieve their goal over time. I’m not surprised that the “I earn 50g/day” crowd doesn’t feel it, because they dont.
Call the inflation rate I, and earnings per day A, and price today P0. The point where the person will close the gap is (A-I)*# of days = P0.
If we take P0 = 750 gold, with I = 3.7 g/day and A =5 g/day as above, it will take 578 days for someone starting now to close the gap (at a price of ~2900g). At 10g/day it takes 120 days to catch up (price ~1200g). So the person playing half as much needs to farm over 2x the gold and “work” 2x harder in total.Again, not an issue of not wanting to put in the work – IMO the core issue of being able to put in work at a reasonable pace and still make progress.
And at 23g/day, which is do-able if you’re actually grinding for gold (heck you can make more than that if you count loot) in much less than 4 hours of play a day, especially if you’re farming and not doing inefficient things like Dungeons without a speedrun group, it will take you 39 days.
I really don’t see the problem. If you want to take your time, you’re going to get hit hard. It’s the same thing with anything that gets hit by interest, like Student Loans. If you focus all of your efforts on finishing it, you can get rid of it extremely fast. If you whine and moan and fight it every step of the way, you’re going to have a lot more steps to whine and moan and fight with.
Alrighty then, maybe I’ll stop going to my borderlands and running to the Tailoring Station.
Also, if you use a ton of CC while standing right next to a mob, they will most likely always target you. This is why the Rune of the Golemancer is actually pretty strong. He uses the golem Whirling Assault attack that constantly knocks back while walking forward. If he uses that against a target with Defiance or against a wall, he will almost always get the full attention of the mob (unless they have special targeting for some abilities: see Lupicus).
Of course, against trash or mobs around no walls, it’s pretty annoying.
We’re getting a new Zone (similar to Continent without the sea to differentiate them, heck, technically Kryta and Elona are on the same Continent since there’s no sea to separate them other than the… sea of desert?). I hope we can get more zones to this area (it’s the Maguuma Wastes and we have one map in it).
Heck, there’s still that unused Asura Gate in Brisban Wildlands that has no use.
Also having a cooldown followed by a 3s cast means for some you will have to wait upwards of 23s untraited to be able to gain the damage bonus or mantra active (for a mantra active, it’s actually fair and on a more reliable cooldown than other access to the same things, such as stunbreaks and condi clear).
However, that’s assuming that you can spend 3s to cast as soon as it’s off cooldown.
If I recall correctly, the bank is only available at “Your World’s Borderlands”.
Where have they said they’ve been having server problems because of pets?
Remove on-clone traits.
Your clones will play as if they have your skill bar.
This means they can weapon swap, roll dodge, cast things like Feedback, Null Field (as long as you slot them), Mantras, Time Warp.
All of these do absolutely nothing (bar dodging and weapon swap) and are simply for confusion sake. It could get confusing for allies as well, but that’ll have to do.
Also, if you run +Illusion Health, it should buff the health of Clones to be the same as the Mesmer’s (with lower toughness, still). This would make it slightly harder to check if you did more damage (still possible) and also make it harder to distinguish the real Mesmer.
Clones casting clone-generation skills will not spawn clones. Clones will still deal the same amount of damage with their attacks as they do now (0-50). Clones will have access to more damaging skills. All utility skills (6-10) will just be for visuals.
Phantasm skills will not be casted.
Could you take a screenshot of the map pulled up before selecting rewards? You still have to talk to the Scout, so that confuses me.
And again, the Warrior mobility is greater than Guardian, but I’ll agree with the power scaling.
Also, if you skip past the gates, you can skip the Tutorial entirely (or directly to the boss fight, depending on where the event is at). Pretty nifty.
I dunno, I always thought Precursors were on a different system than just “is it an exotic? it’s around your level or the level of the mob now!”
HUMAN gods…
Guess I can’t complain, I have an entire personal storyline devoted (not quite entirely) to my race… and I’m not a treeman.
If Mantra of Pain was AoE by default I could see it actually having a use. Definitely support this idea.
Or if it was lifesteal. Or if it reset the attack timer on all of your Illusions.
Actually, I like that last one. It’s useful, but not always the best idea (staggered Wardens become unstaggered).
The skill was designed to have utility – that utility being the travel part.
The idea that if that was the intention it would have no damage is nonsensical to the extreme since ALL WEAPON SKILLS HAVE SOME DAMAGE VALUE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM.
Have you ever equipped a Warhorn on your Warrior?
I’d list more examples, but I’m “working”.
Actually, things like bank access gem items are only what enables it to be a non-subscription game BECAUSE Anet fosters that idea, nourishes it, and upholds it.
If you take a step back and look at GW1, also made by Anet and also published by NCSoft, they didn’t actually have a “Gem Store” until much further into the life of the game (well beyond where GW2 is now). Of course, they did make up for that by having expansions coming out so they were effectively releasing a new game every so often using the same engine, duplicating models and then tweaking slightly. They also added new weapons, professions, and models/races/skills with each expansion.
Now, I’m not saying that GW2 should have expansions and follow the same business model, but I am saying that I feel the reason why GW2 is so reliant on Gem Store purchases (notably “deals” that aren’t actually in the players favor) is because they choose to, not because they’re BtP.
Back on topic, as a PvE players with easy access to my borderlands (which is the only one with a bank unless you have keep upgrades), I would like a bank in PvP for when I do PvP. I like to keep my inventory clean so when I rank up (or get a reward chest), I usually get one or two items that can be put in my bank instead of deposited, and I would enjoy doing that.
As a PvE player who has been on a world where there is a queue, I can see it as being unreasonably easy if there was a Bank or TP in the PvP area.
Perhaps a best of both worlds, as far as the ideas in this thread, could be (although this could potentially use a lot of server resources):
- Within 5 minutes of entering the map from any non-Major City, you can talk to the bank… but… (note: You can talk to the bank after 5 minutes have passed as well, you simply don’t get the “debuff”.)
- If you talk to the bank you lose access to the “Return to PvE” button for the remainder of your 5 minutes.
- This can be bypassed by relogging (1.5 load screens).
- You can leave the Mists to LA.
The reason for this specific suggestion is that in 5 minutes, even the slow machines will have been able to load, so if you’re in the Mists for 5+ minutes, you’re there to PvP, test out builds, or research/hang out. In that case, it’s justifiable that you can access the Bank.
After 5 minutes have passed (heck, earlier than this), you are effectively wasting time if you’re trying to be cheap and efficient.
The part about coming from any Major City is to denote that the player HAD access to Banks before joining the Mists. There are Bank/Crafting zones outside of Major Cities, but that would take more effort to narrow down.
If you enter the Mists through PvP (or TO PvP), this doesn’t affect you at all. If you came from a PvP match, you won’t even get the debuff.
And you could add in the Mystic Forge again.

if you pick which one you have itd be like https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/A-More-Magnificent-Mesmer-Main-Mechanic/first#post4238170 and id agree wholeheartedly. more choice is good as long as it’s fair
You don’t just have one weapon set. You are severely limiting your character if you think of yourself as a “Staff Mesmer.”
That’s true in all game types, IMO.
Tell that to Greatsword Mesmers…
Have you ever fought against a Null Field? Have you ever thought: OH kitten, I NEED TO GET OUT OF THAT INSTANTLY?
I have fought Null Field. I have ran Null Field. Either way, it’s a casual stroll both in and out of it. It also forces the Mesmer into a small AoE circle where you can just stack condition applications through AoE, Single Target, Projectiles, or other LoS things (unless the Mesmer uses it in a well though-out spot to prevent Projectiles and LoS).
Unless you’re only able to apply 1 condition per second, the Null Field isn’t going to do anything.
Also, if that one condition you apply is Blind, Null Field is going to do very little if you stand in it because Blind removal will be at every pulse and you’re probably attacking more than once per pulse. If you ARE attacking once per pulse, you’ll have to sync your auto attack so you won’t have Blind while attacking, which is high level effort for minimal rewards.
I’d rather not get an ICD on Sharper Images because it can stack up 25 bleeds.
Yeah, sorry, I didn’t include sources because it didn’t sound like OP wanted the reasoning, just the facts.
This is why I like to use Deep Glacial Teal. It looks metallic and gives things a rusted, used look, even if they’re of the cloth dye type. Of course, sometimes I have to mix and match, but for the most part it works nicely and makes it looks more real than just having it all a single color (since it fades in and makes it look used!)
Any particular reason you chose Guardian over Warrior? I understand that using Whirling Wrath is a little more flexible and about the same dps as 100b (while allowing you to move).
The major advantage to running Warrior is Rush, Whirlwind Attack, Leap combo. Having a Warhorn is unnecessary, but if you can (which you probably won’t) get the effect of is extremely helpful. Actually, you probably won’t get Rush until the end, either.
It’s possible to get it on a low level character.
Chest and Bags have drop tables that include things independent of your character level, dependent on rarity of bag/chest (or level/zone).
It’s possible to earn precursors from low level chests, but you will have a higher chance (noticeable, most likely, over the course of hundreds of thousands of trials) with higher level chests.
For Bags, the blue/green/yellow items that drop will always be around your character level. The orange items dropped will either be level 80 named (part of the bag drop table) or an orange item around your level. Keep in mind, you will need to be opening exotic champion bags to have a chance of obtaining level 80 named gear. Getting a precursor off a non-80 exotic champ bag is unconfirmed, as far as I know.
I have also read reports of players looting items like Dusk off of random mobs in Queensdale. It could just be someone vying for attention or something that actually happened. Keep in mind, I’ve been playing since release and it’s possible that the drop tables have changed since then. I know precursor rates have been tweaked, but whether or not the tables they appear on have changed is far beyond my, or even most peoples (in this thread’s), knowledge of the game.
I think you quoted the wrong person?
Well, if you really wanted to get a claim ticket with gems, you’re looking at around… $40 to get 10 Scraps to convert into one ticket. The drop rate on tickets is so abysmally low that if you get one, just count yourself lucky and move along.
It’s really, really low. If you want to get some skins with gems, it’s more efficient to get $10 of gems, convert to gold, and buy the skin off the TP.
WvW Bonuses, you’ll have the most health on Friday right before reset and the least health on Friday right after reset.
Simple. There’s no reason at all not to give this option in hotjoin/WvW. Tournament players are not the only people who get annoyed by asurans, and it matters just as much if not more in WvW.
If its a huge load on the server that’s fine, but please don’t assume that the rest of us don’t want this. We really, really do.
Character Model Quality: Lowest
I’d post a picture of my Mesmer but- instantly shatters
Wait, Mesmers need to have Veil Blink only for WvW? What happened to Portal?
Jim, iWarlock gets damage for unique conditions, not for total conditions (you won’t get >275% damage for having 25 stacks of Vuln on the enemy, it’s just 25% + 10%, aka total damage bonus of 37.5%.
Decoy traited is 32 seconds.
If you’re soloing Champions, though, Staff + Deceptive Evasion will be your best friends… although you don’t get DE until super late and Staff doesn’t stunbreak anymore…
I don’t know why people play online multiplayer games with the assumption that they can get everything they want by playing by themselves…
Oh, that’s just saying that….
Say the Exotic is worth 5g, and the Sigil/Rune is worth 10s. If you salvage that item, then you should get slapped.
Fancy Winter Outfit has a female (Asura) version.
Chef Suit, Mad Prince Outfit, Mad King Outfit, Executioner’s Outfit are all unisex, as far as I know.
Witch’s Outfit has a female (Asura) version.
Ancestral has a female (Asura) version (complete with top-boob slits, to show off some bare flat-chest).
Assassin’s and Ceremonial both display the male version on Asura.
Well if anyone wants to do beginners fractal runs hit me up in game and maybe we can get some of you through five fractals.
Without AR it’ll take 5 days because they can’t do all 5 tiers in one day.
Still do-able and relatively painless, especially if they’re capable of hitting you up and listening to you. Gosh I had some bad lowbie runs earlier today…
I hope you’re in Exotics. If you’re in Ascended, you should most likely be aiming for Assassins everything with Berserker trinkets for that sweet Reflect damage. The reason why is that you’re never going to have as high a DPS as other professions without small cheese like Sharper Images, Reflects, and Phantasm damage.
Rune-wise, Mesmers have Rune of the Ranger as the Strength Rune equivalent compared to Scholar Runes. Woah that was a confusing sentence.
Most professions use Strength Runes are a substitute for Scholar Runes when they don’t expect to be at >90% HP for most of the fight. Mesmers can use Rune of the Ranger instead of Strength Runes. Make sure to hold a Mini-Pet with you at all times (even though it procs off Illusions, it’s still good to have a Mini-Pet to guarantee the 6 bonus).
Sigils depends on how hardcore you are. You can go Force + Slaying + Night. You can go Purity + Energy. You can go Fire + Air.
Personally, I would go Energy + Fire (or Air) if you’re casual. Energy is really useful for when you panic, although you probably won’t notice it most of the time. Fire and Air are nice because they will add more DPS and are noticeable when they activate. Be careful with Fire because it can pull surrounding mobs.
I’m not saying that Force is bad, it’s great, it’s just that it does not affect our Phantasms. If you want Force, you might want to opt for Bloodlust (or Perception) instead, to affect Phantasms. For some casual runs, you might never get more than 5 stacks, but at least the damage is spread across all over your power damage sources as opposed to damage YOU deal (and not your Phantasms).
If you really only want to be at 50% Critical Chance, feel free to go Valk, but keep in mind that Ferocity hit Critical Damage pretty hard.
I main a Mesmer, so I’ve been jealous of having a low cooldown, high uptime Fury access. In terms of WvW and PvP, it’s not really “op” because of boon corruption, stealing, and removal, but in PvE it’s definitely unjustifiably strong. There’s little to no reason to run any other Elite and spamming it is the right approach (for the wrong reason).
Also Healing Signet. It encourages lazy play. You’re supposed to think about whether or not you use your signet, not just hold (or spam) it.
I think for Healing Signet to be more fair, it should be based on how much adrenalin you have (more healing for less adrenalin and less healing for more). Honestly it would make more sense the other way around, but there’s already Healing Surge and Burst Power, so it makes sense for it to counteract these. Additionally, it helps Anet maintain the idea of “use your burst skills for added dps” even though it doesn’t look like they really number crunched the idea of using a burst skill.
I played with that message since it was implemented… finally gave in and put stats on my Quip.
I honestly think the gw2 mesmer is the realization of what arenanet wanted to do with the gw1 mesmer, but didn’t want to deal with the kittenstorm of balancing it to do it.
Fixed that for you.
