Ouch, I usually try out previews before I get items because of that. Since you’re using the feathered set, have you considered the feathered helm? I know those are hawk wings on the tip, but it’s still pretty nice.

My counter argument was that most mesmers (in PvE) only have access to two boon removals at any given point in time. Mix that with the high cooldowns they all have (bar Sword auto and Mind Stab which are both unreliable), we really don’t have that much.

Actually, iDisenchanter has a low cooldown but is not very useful since it’s spawned within 600 range of the opponent.

Running Shattered Concentration is the main way of getting a third boon removal in your build, but is also unreliable because shatters aren’t always guaranteed to hit, especially if you need that boon gone on demand. Additionally, you’re blowing an attack to remove a boon. And by attack, I mean one of your bursts (unless you do F2).

So my counter is that we don’t have much boon removal. Yes, I can run a build of Shattered Concentration, Sword + Greatsword, Arcane Thievery, Null Field, Phantasmal Disenchanter and I’ll do all of nothing for myself or my team. In fact, even that won’t be able to strip boons that well.

When I say unlocked, I mean had it “bound to the character” since dyes were character-specific before the April Feature Patch. Are you talking about dyes you opened, or dyes you had unlocked (the item was consumed and your character “ate” it).

Celestial isn’t actual pure white. It’s the most reflective white there is, which means it can change based on lighting. While that isn’t what’s happening here, it’s something to keep in mind.

Timeframe for 1-80 solo: 80-100 hours.
Timeframe for 1-80 boosted: 10-40 hours.
Timeframe for 1-80 boosted solo: (haven’t confirmed): 30 hours.

1-80 Solo: General PvE, attempt World Completion, will get to nearly 80% if you 100% every map.
Tip to leveling faster: Instead of 100%ing maps, simply 99% every map you go to (leave one Point of Interest or Vista unchecked). When you get to level 70ish, run back and complete every map you’ve been to. The map completion bonus is based on your current level, not the level of the map, whereas the experience for Hearts, PoI, Vistas, Skill Points are based on the level of the zone.
Tip to leveling easier: As soon as you finish the tutorial, explore all the cities. (99% or 100%) when you’re done, you should be level 5-6, this will make things significantly easier at the beginning. Don’t forget to re-gear (soon).

1-80 Solo Method 2: WvW or EotM. Run around, follow Doritos, Get Experience, ???, Profit.

1-80 Boosted Solo: Multiple methods. The fastest method (which will take less than 30 minutes) is to make out crafting professions. Each profession to 400 will get you 7 levels, and you can get some to 500 for another 3 levels (not cost-effective). Doing this for all the crafts will get you to level 57-75 depending on how many crafts you got to level 500. If you’re doing this, I would suggest map completing the major cities first to get to level 6, thereby getting you to level 80 through crafts. This will cost upwards of 500g for a single character (approximately $50 using LEGITIMATE conversion methods).

1-80 Boosted: Run a dungeon on a higher level character and swap to your low level, enter the dungeon, get the final reward = instant 70% experience. If you have money, you can pay 1g for dungeon completion (you get 1g back so it’s essentially “free”) and you can do this multiple times per day (but you will only get back 26s after the first time). You can also just buy the run without being on a higher level.

Weird method:
Using your Experience Boosters, convert 1 using Enchanted Powder. Save it.
Convert 5 into an Improved Experience Booster. Save it.
Get some cheap food (preferably halloween variety). Save it.
Get some cheap potion (preferably one that lasts 1h). Save it.
Get a guild with guild exp up.
Find a heroes banner or guild experience and blah banner.
Activate Improved Experience Booster, Experience Booster, Enchanted Booster → Killstreak Booster, Food, Potion, and run around killing things. If you have a Laurel, trade that for a Laureate Experience Booster and use that as well.

You will get 290% bonus experience, meaning you can get almost 4x exp off of mobs. Run around killing everything in sight. You’ll probably need a gear upgrade quickly, so this isn’t that good unless you’re prepared.

Also note: All of these methods are bad and should feel bad if you’re on your first character EXCEPT the first one listed.

Are you sure Caltrops counts as a damaging AoE field? Caltrops doesn’t do direct damage, it does indirect through the bleed condition. This is straight from the wiki on stealth:
“Hitting a foe with an attack breaks stealth; if the attack missed, was blocked, or was evaded, they will not break stealth. Abilities that do not deal direct damage (like Choking Gas, Caltrops, or the Traps which do not deal direct damage) will not break stealth, even though they apply damaging conditions.”

With Chocking gas, they are adding a direct damage component, so it WILL break stealth, unlike Caltrops.

Also, I don’t think your comment about Caltrops not stacking with caltrops from dodge (Uncatchable) is correct. I believe the effects from both do “stack”.

I could be wrong, my firsthand experience is very old.

its a buff for me, all of my builds are very crit oriented so i usually pile in signets and run with deep strike i have SoR just for the extra precision and passive adrenaline and i never click it, so woo!

thats very weird… a warrior that never use his SoR?? you do know you get way more from using it vs deep strike.

That trait is so bad.

And if you have an Ele or two in the group stacking might/fury such that you gain nothing from SoR’s activation other than wasted animation time?

You get Swiftness! And 5 Might stacks!

Actually, the 5 might is useful when playing with only 1 ele, if you aren’t running Forceful Strikes… Yeah… nevermind, I’ll go away.

I do agree, that this would be annoying. Not only is it another condition to balance and play against (or with, for that matter), but it’s essentially the chill of boons and, with boon ripping/removal/corruption, it’s not necessary. As interrupts don’t actually do anything significant to punish the player, I can see why Chill is still part of the game, especially since it’s hard to access.

Esplen.3940

So I was told by a friend that if you have had gotten repeated dyes in the past, Anet will send unidentified dyes based on the repeated dyes that you opened.

However, I logged in today, and I didn’t get anything.

Can someone shed lights on this subject?

Back to the OP:

The dyes are only given if you’ve UNLOCKED the same dye more than once. Example: I unlocked Heirloom on my Mesmer, my Thief, my other Thief, and my Guardian.
When I log onto my Mesmer, the game stores my dyes and shows them to me. I do not get any unidentified dyes.
When I log onto my Thief, the game sees that I have a duplicated dye unlocked. I get one unidentified dye.
When I log onto my other Thief, the game sees that I have a duplicated dye unlocked. I get one unidentified dye.
When I log onto my Guardian, the game sees that I have a duplicated dye unlocked. I get one unidentified dye.

Now let’s go more in-depth:
On my Mesmer, I have:
Oxblood, Heirloom, Celestial.
On my Thief, I have:
Oxblood, Mithril, Peach.
On my Ranger, I have:
Mithril, Winter Ice, Sage.
On my Guardian, I have:
Winter Ice, Celestial, Peach.

When I log in, for the first time (after the April 2014 Feature Pack Patch), the game stores my dyes. I do not remember if it takes ALL dyes, or just the dyes from my first character. Let’s pretend it’s just the first character. I go onto my Mesmer.

The game unlocks: Oxblood, Celestial, Heirloom.

I log onto my Guardian.
The game unlocks: Winter Ice, Peach.
I get 1 unidye.

I log onto my Thief.
The game unlocks: Mithril.
I get 2 unidye.

I log onto my Ranger.
I unlock sage.
I get 2 unidye.

Does that make sense? (The unlocking part might be all done on my Mesmer, but it makes sense to understand it this way.)

The SB Choking Gas nerf is pretty ridiculous too, considering Mesmers can summon phantasms and clones without breaking stealth.

The thing that breaks stealth with SB choking gas is that it will now register a damaging hit from the player. They might make it do 1 damage, but it’s a hit if an enemy is within the AoE. A mesmer summoning does not hit, and the illusions doing damage is not the player doing damage. You’re confusing two very different things.

Okay, so all AoE fields should proc retaliation from your line of thinking, correct? Because that’s exactly what this move will be doing from now on.

Well, I mean, Caltrops counts as a damaging AoE field. It gets affected by Retal, reveals if the Thief is in stealth, and doesn’t stack with Caltrops on dodge (shhhhh, this isn’t relevant).

But on the bright side, it does count towards the healing off of Signet of Malice, allowing you to heal tons of small numbers like a Necromancer with points in Blood Magic… not that you need to know that considering I’m sure you’ve used Bladestorm to get a full heal in a pack of trash.

So yeah, Choking Gas might get hit by Retal and reveal you, but it can also heal you slightly in certain builds.

Play fractals and you get used to it. Agony hurts healing more than poison and you tend to get that a lot at 50. I usually activate it while I have agony but timed so that my heal goes off right as it ends because the re-occurring agony doesn’t typically re-apply itself immediately. Of course, if you get hit by a boss, that’s another problem entirely (and you’re probably down if you were trying to heal it up).

in Mesmer

Taken straight from the wiki:

Certain skills and effects cannot be evaded, they include:

Skills with area denial purposes: Line of Warding, Ring of Warding, Unsteady Ground, Static Field, Temporal Curtain’s cripple, and many others.
Passive effects that trigger when the enemies are attacked: Retaliation, Auras
Certain environmental traps/events/objects; e.g. Direct Lightning of Skyhammer

It is a passive effect that triggers when the clone is destroyed so it, awkwardly, falls under the category of aura/retal.

What bothers me most about this nerf is that theif is the squishiest class with the worst healing and condition cleanses because they have active defense you are suppose to you use the theif toolbox as the devs like to call it to avoid getting hit in the first place.
Now they nerf this and sword without compensation i cant see how that is balanced.

ACTUALLY! When I was looking into the GW2 wiki posts on how that sword #3 is being revamped it seems like you will be able to evade much more often now, with the expense of 1 extra initiative cost. Sounds like a buff to me! It wont turn over to lancerous strike unless you hit but hey that means more evasion too!

Might as well call it Dodge For Initiative! and pair it with Roll For Initiative!

I guess because it’s sort of “in your face” this time, receiving items “as a reward” that are of no use to you unless you have the crafting professions in question leveled accordingly.

Delete them, then, you can get the items from replaying the episodes on the same character, or use a different character to get the first-time rewards again.

Mh, I guess I wasn’t clear. I believe this is the reason why we see threads like this popping up. The story rewards thus far did not include needing a crafting profession.

Otherwise the highest level armour is only available via crafting and other skins like the grenth backpiece etc as well.

Personally I always crafted because it feels to me more like a completion of the characters, I don’t craft for profit – it’s simply an option I like.

In theory you could get ascended armor through drops as well but that is mostly just a theory(I do have 1 piece from a guild mission so far).

I have 6 ascended boxes from fractals (both bonus chests and reward chests). I don’t particularly see what the complaint is. Making a legendary requires 400 in a few crafts. Making this backpiece requires 400 in a few crafts (and probably 450 for the ascended version).Sure, it might not seem like the same thing to you, but if you haven’t bothered to get it and you want it, then you now have something to work for. Getting a craft up isn’t super expensive, especially if you’re going to 400.

This backpiece isn’t a part of the story reward, it’s something to remember it by and to make it feel more personal. It’s also a marketing ploy to ensure players buy all of Season 2 so they can get all of the parts of the backpiece as opposed to the Spinal Blades that can be made without having participated at an increased cost. Heck, the Spinal Blades requires one of three crafts to finish up, and I don’t see that being a complaint.

Player-controlled precursor market a failure.

The problem with having a flat price for it would be inflation.

100g today is MUUUUCH easier to get than 100g at release.

So unless they actively changed the price based on the current value of gold (which is exactly how the TP works) it wouldn’t really work out that well.

Desired precursors prices are not going up at the dame rate as inflation, or earning.

Dusk used to be 80 gold. farmer could make that in 30 hours just npcing crap (if not less) haven’t heard of farming that can make 1500 gold in 30 hours.

Karka Shell would get you pretty close.

Why do you think Mesmer has been forced into a support role when the only Mesmers in tPvP are Shatter?

PvE: Reliant on damage from Phantasms (easily cleaved) to maintain equivalent dps with other professions even while stacking pure damage. Main uses of Mesmer: Projectile Destruction, Projectile Reflection, Time Warp, Portal. (All SUPPORT)

WvW Big/Medium Group: Lack of easy AoE makes tagging near impossible. Requires Greatsword to tag. Lack of mobility trait/signet and access to Swiftness is near non-existent without the use of Focus. Focus Curtain is still suffering from band-aid patch that makes keeping up hard. Main uses of Mesmer: Veil, Portal.

WvW Small Group: Shatter or Support are useful here. Can easily move around the battlefield while in combat and assist allies or debilitate enemies. Builds have more flexibility here. Main uses of Mesmer: Boon sharing (SUPPORT), or Shatter (Damage).

WvW Solo/Duo/Trio Group: Shatter or PU. Can easily disorient enemies (PU) and frustrate opponents. Access to large bursts (Shatter) and sticks close to enemies. Suffers from lack of hard-chasing abilities along with the occasional running away being difficult. Main uses of Mesmer: Survival or burst damage.

sPvP: Shatter or PU. See: WvW Solo/Duo/Trio. Note: PU is less useful in an organized team than Shatter. Also: Portal. (SUPPORT, and in some cases finisher/survival)

The only time Mesmer is really brought for their damage is in high burst scenario’s or 1v1’s, and even then they’re not good vs 1v1 PvE.

The rest, and majority, of the time, a Mesmer is brought for the utility they can bring. Feedback is easier to survive with than Wall of Reflection due to it being a bubble. Wardens can be staggered and then the party does not need to roll vs projectile attacks (assuming Wardens do not get cleaved). Time Warp provides a littles less than a 33% damage increase to the rest of the party on a 4.7% uptime, most Mesmers do not spam it, making it an even lower uptime.

Mesmer has enough methods of destroying boons and more than enough methods of applying conditions. Although kind of unique, I say nay.

Are we playing the same game? Our options of boon removal are:
Sword auto chain, requires 3 hits for 1 boon.
Mind Stab, small aoe ground target, roots player during cast.
Arcane Thievery, dodgeable, blockable, blindable (yes, you can BLIND and AEGIS a skill that swaps boons and conditions), easily fails due to lack of LoS when LoS is clearly maintained.
Null Field, 5 pulses, 1 boon per pulse, average aoe size, can be walked out of, 15% uptime
Phantasmal Disenchanter, dodgeable, aegis-able, blind-able, spawns close to target making it easy to destroy, does bounce so it’s nice, relatively low cooldown, takes up a utility slot
Shattered Concentration, dodgeable, aegis-able, blind-able, kite-able.

And no, you’re not going to have more than 2 of these options in a game (3 if you’re running a shatter build without greatsword) with one being a utility and the other being the weapon or trait.

Legendary or ascended gear first

in Crafting

Posted by: Esplen.3940

You should start gathering materials for a Legendary in my opinion.

If you don’t want to go Fractals up to 50+ and you don’t want the ascended armor because if its skin, you really. . .really don’t need it!

Mmm, not true, the stat difference between Exotic and Ascended is about 5%, but the damage difference is slightly more extreme, especially when considering Berserker’s and Assassin’s since they have compounding stats.

Additionally, with the amount of money you spend on the precursor alone (unless you get lucky with RNG), you can get a full armorset and 4 weapons, give or take 2 weapons depending on how many crafts you get to 500.

Unless you really like the skin, I would go for Ascended instead.

Esplen.3940

Heyyyy someone read my post from the list of Mesmer stuff that’s broken and should get fixed.

Wooo… too bad I’m not credited in the OP.

sorry i did not read your list.

It’s not MY list, but it’s a part of a thread in the Mesmer section that was: “List your top three Mesmer bugs to get fixed” where my response was:

Warden, Staff, Sword 3. Everything else is ok imo. Focus reflection works fine, yet ppl don’t know how it works on curtain…

It’s because unless you drop the curtain directly on the mob (doesn’t work if they’re tall/shoot it from high up) you have to drop the curtain so the visual actually touches the projectile. Wall of Reflection is a lot larger (bigger vertical axis) which means it can actually hit things. Additionally, a player can jump while using WoR to make it go even higher at the risk of things hitting the floor right in front of the wall (engie nades aimed very, very well which doesn’t really happen in PvE).

1. Triumphant Distortion
This skill is supposed to have no ICD. It’s not broken because Invulnerability doesn’t stack intensity so it would be like stacking Chaos Armor. Sure, you can’t get hit, but how many things can you kill within 3 seconds as a Mesmer? Can you do it indefinitely? Also, in PvE, if you can’t get hit long enough, you can’t hit mobs either, so you’d just hit yourself in the face by staggering it too hard. Also, you (Arenanet) did say that we would get it with no ICD.

2. Winds of Chaos
Seriously. Nobody wants Vulnerability on a 33% chance 3/4s cast time.

3. Null Field
Nobody notices this but: “rips all boons from foes, and cures all conditions on allies.” does not translate to “Pulses every second for 5 seconds targeting only 5 allies and enemies.” I don’t care where you learned English, those are two fundamentally different statements and if we’re going by the standard Mesmer skill updates, it would mean that the functionality of the skill should match the description, not the other way around. Otherwise, revert the iLeap.

I honestly can’t understand the SoR buff either. There’s literally nothing making it OP or over the top and I don’t see how they decided to do it.

5 stack of Might, Fury, and Swiftness for 30 seconds on the active. 30 SECONDS. I’ll let that sink in.

Nah, bro, it just got overly nerfed. Now it’s gasp 25 seconds.

Which is still longer than most classes could dream of. Most are psyched when they can get 12 or 15 seconds of any of that.

It’s an ELITE skill.
Compare it please for example to FGS – current destroyer of worlds in any PVE setting.

The idea is the skill was never considered OP.
Nobody complained about it.
I don’t recall hearing any warriors go : Oh my SOR is SO good. You just have to have it.

I still think the nerf was unjustified.

50% uptime untraited with no boon duration. Trait is 2 points deep and right next to a well-used minor trait (Fast Hands) along with very niche majors alongside it making it an obvious choice (unless you really want that 25% movespeed, which is actually worse considering Swiftness is 33% and by traiting for SoR, you’re improving that uptime from 50% to 62.5% compared to 50% uptime on 25% movespeed [assumes no other source of swiftness], you’re now getting 12.5% uptime on 8% move speed).

FGS is overly strong and calls for nerfs are being made everywhere from rT, DnT, Elementalists, and pretty much anyone looking at the healthiness of PvE (or even other game modes, because it has ridiculous mobility). I haven’t heard from Ren or other speed guils as to whether or not they want it nerfed as well, but I’m quite sure most people will want it nerfed even if they use it religiously against mobs.

Actually, my speedrun group would probably get mad if it got nerfed, but I’d be glad.

The truth is that this is a go-to elite in every game mode. Not only that but it’s being spammed. A signet is supposed to have two upsides. There’s supposed to be a reason to not activate it and a reason to activate it. Your build might be based on doing only one of those things, but it should have two sides to it. Warrior is weird in that regard. Signet of Fury is being held for the Precision and not activated particularly because the active is underwhelming. Same goes for Healing Signet, considering the HP/S is relatively high without any effort on the Warrior’s part. There is no reason to activate it because it instantly becomes a subpar heal unless using it in the final throes of a battle, and even then it’s still arguably bad to use.

Signet of Rage has been held and used mainly for the boons. I’ve actually ran it and gotten myself in combat a few times by pulling a mob and then jumping down a cliff so I can stay in combat permanently and build up my adrenaline, but even that is too slow to be useful, and it’s not only more efficient to just kill the mob for adrenaline, but it’s also easier to do.

The problem with these signets is there is relatively no reason to activate them, especially with the trait adding damage for adrenaline saved.

There are plenty of traits for other professions that are only useful in one scene of the game and even then are only used because there’s not much else that’s better.

Now rangers are easily interrupting most skills and killing before I can get into attack range, if that is that I can get past their multiple pets.

This patch is totally in the wrong direction.

This is ridiculous, people are SO eager to QQ about Rangers because we got some decent buffs which we needed since day 1 that they’re calling them OP and making things up even before the patch has passed!

I wish everyone would just shut the hell up QQing unless it’s for genuinely broken things like mesmer skills, ranger general terribleness or how OP facerolly warriors are.

I main a Mesmer, now I can rant about everything I want with the approval stamp of Bryzy!

iLeap sucks, Warden is mentally challenged. Phantasms don’t like to attack when spawned if spawned on certain terrain types. Phantasms don’t like to attack for other weird reasons. Illusions sometimes forget how to shatter and wait patiently for their death before the automatic shatter kicks in and they shatter uselessly (or, in Distortion’s case, too little, too late)… I can keep going.

I agree, I didn’t think about the Phoenix skill at all. I had assumed that the OP meant a white glow, though, which would be none of our listed ideas.

Ranger Warhorn #4, where it summons birds to “peck” at the enemy. They then fly away after a few moments. They also do not glow.

Dyes don’t require transmutation stones.

I’m quite sure Caltrops reveals Thieves as long as you’re standing in the Caltrops. If you have conditions on you, then yes, the Thief won’t be revealed, but that’s… kind of hard to “fix”.

Actually, the gem to gold to gem OR gold to gem to gold rate has been 72.25% because it’s a 15% tax going both ways.

The mathematical equation would be 0.85^2 = 0.7225 because it’s an equal “taxed” rate in both directions.

World of Tanks is one that I just play don’t understand…

The idea of playing an MMO that revolves around tanks has no appeal to me, but I’m guessing it’s the ESports that makes it so popular.

World of Tanks, World of Airplanes, and World of Battleships (soon TM) are all made as a whole-scale battle simulation game. I mean, without the people running around. Think Battlefield without playing as an individual unit and instead as a vehicle. That’s the genre of the game.

The World of – Makers and the War- Makers are both competing to make the better game while also incorporating all three games (the third one isn’t finished for either) into one game so you’ll have Navy ships fighting each other and assaulting air forces, tanks fighting each other and bombarding Navy ships, and Air forces fighting each other and attacking tanks.

It’s somewhat hard for a Navy ship to attack a tank, a tank to attack an airplane, and an air plane to attack a navy ship, although it’s not impossible.

That’s what those games genre is. It’s not quite mmo, but it does have individual progression (in terms of “gear”).

If that turns out to be the case, that will be the final blow on playing a Mesmer as my main. I will have reached the point where enough is enough. He would be parked in a city for crafting purposes, and that’d be that. My Guardian/Necro would take his place as main.

I don’t think I can ever do that. I’ll just be a sucky person who presses a ton of buttons and supports the group while not doing a lot. Woooo…
