Number-crunching for ecto salvages – periodically updated
Using the magical search feature I found the thread I posted in a while back. Might be useful to search next time.
Izzy gave some obscure lore-based reason as to why there will be no capes.
Might we see them in the future? Maybe, but I wouldn’t bet a dime on it.
Yep, you need to use a Fine Transmutation stone though. The regular ones only work up to level 79 gear.
I second the notion of using stability. Most classes have more than one way to gain stability, and it’s sometimes coupled with a stun-break. You are sometimes forced to change your skills to deal with certain enemies. Get into the habit of it
Also note, most of the enemies that hit you with knockdowns do so in close range. Hit them with cripple/immobilize/chilled, knock them back, kite, etc. to keep a gap between you and them while you dish out the damage.
Blacks can vary depending on the material of the armor. Use the chat links from GW2DB to preview them if you want to save yourself some trouble. I’ve found Midnight Fire to be a nice black for some light armors.
For whites, it’s a bit simpler. For a radiant white go Celestial, for a regular (slightly dull) white, go with White.
Note these are opinions on color. Your best bet is to just see them for yourself through the preview window. If you’re going for a specific dye, 99% of the time you’re better off buying it off the TP because it’ll be straight-up cheaper, or just involve much less of a gambling risk.
Interesting… Were they all lower 70’s? Maybe the forge calculates an average level and uses that when deciding what it can spit out?
Again, not too solid on that 76. If they were all 70-72 or so, that would be a bit surprising to me. Either way, good to know.
Can’t find the source atm, but if I recall correctly, it was confirmed that precursors can be forged with rares or exotics level 76+. That number may be a little off, but I think you can definitely get it with exotics under level 80 .
You didn’t even bother skimming the first page of this forum long enough to realize there’s another mount thread… Try that next time.
The topic has been beaten to death, resurrected, beaten to death, turned into a risen, burned to the ground, grown into a tree, and chopped down.
Long story short: The developers are aware that there are some people who want them, some who don’t, and some who don’t care whatsoever. There’s been no indication that mounts will be introduced in the future (at least not in the next few months), but there has also been no decisive “No mounts ever” statement from the devs. Too lazy to search for it, but one developer mentioned that there would not be any mounts introduced in the Flame & Frost story arc.
Have you used what’s on the wiki? Armor Box/Satchel Recipes
That one should work. It’s been on there for a long time with no changes. And remember that just makes the recipe, not the actual box :x
Could it be an armor-set box recipe like this?
That’s the only possibility I can think of :x
You can do that with no problems. Obviously, lots of what you craft will be over-leveled relative to that character.
Also note, after level 10, maxing a craft (0→400) yields 10 character levels, so whether you like it or not your character will level up. If you start at level 1 you usually end up around lvl 13-14 (if I recall correctly) since the level xp scales differently early on.
I’ve reached master crafter and not once did I receive materials back in a critical success. As far as I’ve experienced, all you get is extra xp when you get a critical success. I’m not sure if the wiki’s right on that one, but then again my luck could just have been terrible :P
If it actually is possible to be refunded some of the items when crafting, I see no reason why exotics would be excluded.
Direct yes/no answers will cause a mess if the feature is delayed or people are unhappy with the decision. It makes them waste more time moderating and keeping tabs on repeat threads.
Even with the neutral “I like that idea, I’ll pass it on”, the average forum-goer is impatient and wants a solid yes/no answer, as to the consequences see what I just said above.
At best they can post on threads to spur discussion or guide it in a way to keep in constructive and insightful, which is already occasionally done. I think they’ve found a fair balance.
If it exists, it hasn’t been discovered yet (according to the wiki listing, or those who know about it aren’t sharing). If it follows the pattern of the other purple glow weapons, it should be 1 Eldritch Scroll, 50-100 mystic coins, 250 ecto, and 250 of either ancient staff heads or shafts. I can’t test it now as I’m not on my desktop, but try combinations with one of each staff part and check the numbers that pop up on the bottom (assuming one’s a valid recipe).
If it shows up as a valid recipe but you just can’t afford to make it, throw it on the discussion page so hopefully some wealthy noble soul can take the gamble :P
Eldritch scrolls and ectos should be combine-able with other objects in the forge, as recipes exist including those items. The quantities may just be off, so again, check the numbers that show up under each item when you put it in.
EDIT: There doesn’t seem to be a recipe for such a staff. I tried the combos listed above and none were valid. Then again, it might have some obscure fourth ingredient, which would explain why no one has found it yet. To be honest, if it doesn’t exist as such, some sort of purple glowy staff will probably be introduced at some point to complete that stylistic set.

Same thing happened in the Karka event. People saw the earring saying “unique”, didn’t care to look it up, and then complained when they spent the karka shells on a second one.
As Coinin said, “Unique” is a rather short way of describing the item’s behavior, and is common in other games as well. Next time look up things that you see but do not fully understand before you commit a week+ worth of effort towards something you may not even be able to use.
It is not implemented solely to ‘kitten people’. In the case of ascended items, it’s to disallow multiple rings with the same infusion, whether it be offensive or defensive, probably for some miniscule balancing reason. What would you suggest “Unique” be changed to? “You can only equip one of this item per character”? I like the fact there aren’t walls of text in item descriptions.
Being aggressive with demanding change as you have usually results in threads being locked. Putting your email on a public forum is a bad idea, I suggest you remove it. Try to chill out before posting next time. Your suggestion could’ve been an easy one to two sentences as to why “Unique” items are bad (in your opinion). Instead you used the forums to rant away.
Perfect, thanks!
Did some wiki & forum searching and couldn’t find the answer, so forgive my incompetence/blindness if it’s out there somewhere already :x
1) What time of day do the daily dungeon token rewards reset? Is it the same as the Daily Acheivements?
2) Are the 60 tokens for the first run account-wide or character-specific? In other words, Char1 does Arah p1 for 60 tokens, does Char2 running the same path (before reset) also get 60 tokens or the reduced amount?
EDIT: Found a guild on my home server, please close the thread
A quick search of this forum revealed few Arah-teaching guilds, so here goes…
I’m looking for a guild willing to teach how to run this dungeon, mostly because every PUG group demands experienced runners or you get kicked. I have “studied” the wiki, so I’ve got a vague idea of what it should be like.
I’m not willing to hop servers due to having a decent amount of friends and some family here, as well as the cost of transferring.
My Preferred class: Elementalist. Usually using staff for dungeons (have D/D and S/D available to use). Willing to re-gear and change traits if necessary. Currently using a Knight’s gear setup. I have plenty of open-world PvE experience, and no interest in PvP aside from WvW (if that counts).
Dungeon experience: FoTM (~13), TA (all paths), and Arah (story only). In other words, minimal :/
Availability: EST time zone, weekdays are limited (1-2 hours/day, focusing on dailies first). Much more time on weekends (afternoon/evening).
TS/Vent/Mumble requirements: None installed atm, but I do have a working headset, so if it’s required/suggested, just let me know and I’ll set it up.
I don’t plan on leaving even after finishing Arah enough times for the Gift of Zhaitan plus an armor set, so I’ll probably stick around to tag along on more runs for fun

Yeah, that’s why I added that it probably doesn’t apply or only loosely does.
it’s even possible that this greatsword is being undervalued.
Pretty much what I said, albeit indirectly since I didn’t want people to come in screaming “it’s too expensive for me!!1!1” :P What I was essentially saying is that the precursor’s price on the TP will probably rise until it reaches the gamble-value, probably overshoot a bit, and then fall back and hang around that average. But yeah, without a large (verified) sample size of people gambling for precursors, we don’t have a clue how fast/slow this is happening.
There’s an option to stop autoattacking on target change. This also applies to deselecting the target. I use that feature to avoid the self harm with confusion since all you need to do is click anywhere on your screen that is not the currently selected enemy. Granted, you will then have to re-select the enemy although that usually isn’t too difficult.
Aside from that, as others have said, any “macro” button you press can only perform one action, not a series of actions. If you press “Mouse button 5”, it can only be the equivalent of a single keypress. Doing more than one action might cause them to drop the banhammer on you.
If you drop all your money into the forge and fail, be ready to face severe depression.
Assuming real-world market rules apply (which they probably don’t, or only loosely do), the price of the precursor on the TP will not rise much higher than the average forge gambling cost. Therefore, I’d say just save up the money to buy it off the TP. I’m currently working on the other parts of my legendary and leaving the precursor for last to farm money for it, unless I get lucky with a chest reward lol :P
It covers pretty much everything. It’s long, but well worth the read
Depending on your class you may have some difficulties early on since some are more complex than others. If you do run into such difficulties, just skim through the profession’s respective subforum for tips and builds that people find to be effective.
No, no, and double no. Suck it up and get it over with. Once it’s done it’s done and you don’t have to go back. Why is this such a big deal?
Because some servers aren’t as fluid as others in their ranking, so you may never end up (let’s say, for conversation) as the green team, so unless your server does the impossible and caps all of EB while you happen to be online, it’s impossible to finish world completion.
Removing the WvW requirement isn’t the solution imo. Just make the EB starting zones rotate like the battlegrounds do, regardless of ranking in the current match, so everyone has a fair shot at getting completion.
Quaggans are awesome. The way they talk in third person is just icing on the cake. I wouldn’t want them as a playable race though, since they’re more of a pacifist culture while all the current races accept war as a daily fact of life; it just wouldn’t make sense.
If that quaggan backpack didn’t have the eye popping out I would’ve bought it by now. I don’t want a damaged quaggan on my back
Eye-balling the dyes will be quite difficult to be honest. Your best bet is to copy the chat links for the dyes most likely to be the ones you’re looking for and preview them before buying. You can get the links by searching the dyes on GW2DB. To find potential candidates, I’d suggest the wiki page on dyes.
Who knows, in your search you might find a nicer green or black color that suits your taste :P
If you’re not a member of a guild already, people see it as an opportunity. You can make a guild with yourself as the sole member. It will cost a silver.
I did this and haven’t gotten a single guild invite since. Having the guild bank all to yourself is also a nice perk, even if you do end up joining a real guild later as all it takes to access it is swapping guild representation for 5 minutes.
If it’s asuran cultural armor no. Otherwise yes. No dropped/crafted armor is race/gender specific, so when you wear it on one character, it’ll appear as that race/gender combination properly. And all things crafted are generally not account bound. Masterwork (greens) and above are soulbound on use, but that applies to anything, not just crafted stuff.
That has to hurt… Was there the usual ‘are you sure you want to salvage this’ popup or not? If there wasn’t, it seriously needs to be added to help avoid this…
I sincerely hope support can do something, although their general responses fall along the lines of “we can’t restore lost items”. Hopefully you get lucky and something can be done :/
www.speedtest.net
www.pingtest.net (requires Java which lately is a huge security risk)
Those will help you determine whether you need to l2p or if you just need a new graphics card.
Those measure your internet connection, not graphics card performance.
As others have said, 10 fps is going to hurt you. Try dropping the graphics settings to the bare minimum, and maybe drop the resolution and run in windowed mode in hopes of better performance.
Otherwise, upgrading your GPU will probably be the best option.
As far as I can tell it’s a tree in the background. And in case you didn’t know, the background is based on where that character logged off, so it’s different for each zone.
Kinda neutral on the subject. I liked their implementation in GW1, where they’re purely guild based. If they did that here too, I certainly wouldn’t be complaining about the addition.
But, it’s not happening unless they’re going back on another thing they’ve stated.
Posted this on an older cape suggestion thread, so copy/paste =
Guild-Wars2.info: Why did you decide to implement guild back packs instead of capes like we saw in the original Guild Wars?
Izzy: After 250 years, guild fashion has had to adapt and change, especially as more diverse races started working together. The charr, for example, are not a big fan of the capes as they get in the way when running on all fours. The asura have calculated that capes increase the chance of fumbling in combat by 34.76819011% and thus avoid them at all costs.
You do have a huge advantage… Go back and do the lvl 1-15 zones you skipped as a level 80 and you’ll notice that it’s derpishly easy. You’re only downleveled just enough to keep you from insta-killing hordes of enemies. They don’t want lvl 80’s hampering lower level players, i.e. killing mobs spawned in a DE so fast that lower leveled players can’t get any credit for participation.
For future reference, post questions like this in the Players Helping Players or General Discussion, since your post isn’t a suggestion
It’s in one of the countless threads talking about a fix to precursors. A developer stated that the scavenger hunt is not yet in the development phase (only being designed, as in ideas are being discussed), and should not be expected for a Feb/March release. So at worst (in your case) you might see it in April, but to be honest, I wouldn’t be expecting it until late this year at the soonest since they still haven’t even implemented guild halls even though it’s been on their to-do list from the beginning :P
So you were farming or doing some form of repetitive task, and got mistakenly banned as a “bot”. And that has everything to do with using a ranger…? Unless they explicitly stated they’re profiling rangers, this is a pointless thread since it’s just stating an assumption as fact. What’s next? Oh, I got banned for farming on my warrior, so they must now be profiling warriors. So don’t play them!
Yes, it sucks that you got banned, but it happens. Be glad they got it right the second time around and unbanned you.
Instead of a fancy “neutrality” system or instances, just make the EB starting locations cycle like the borderlands do (weekly) and the problem is solved. The issue arises when you’re stuck in one rank spot and can’t reach the opponent’s areas since keeps/towers in EB are generally harder to cap.
It was annoying for me to have to switch servers for a week to get the remaining completion for EB, and now that transfers are paid, it’s flat out unfair that you need to pay gems to get completion. I’d actually prefer WvW stay in completion so that PvE completionists like myself are forced to try out their trademark PvP. To be honest, I’m not much of a PvP person, but WvW is quite fun when I get bored of the usual Orr/FotM grind.
I’m not inclined to believe it was a result of impulsiveness since she had to have had some instinct of self preservation. Children are generally impulsive and they won’t charge at a growling bear.
most likely, her thought process was “I’ll lie to the player to let me go, act as a distraction, then portal or fly away, perfect plan!” she just didn’t anticipate the amount of risen she’d be distracting and it led to her death
^ This makes a bit more sense. Still leaves a bit of a hole since she could’ve just told the player such a plan, and there’s no reason your character would really protest that. If anything, it makes more sense to leave a distraction than to fight to the death, since she would probably get killed much quicker in a head-to-head fight. Just the idea of her accepting that her own death in that battle was the only way out baffled me. Trickery gone wrong would have made much more sense.
I finally got around to doing the Priory storyline, and I found Sieran’s explanation (or whatever you want to call it) as to why she wanted to stay behind on Claw Island rather weak.
Tybalt went from a desk jockey to a full on field agent and gained confidence with you (player). He wanted to redeem and make a name for himself for failing his warband in the past. Makes sense.
Forgal was a norn, so doing the ‘honorable’ goes without second thought. Plus it’s a great battle for him to go down in since the norn storytelling culture would embellish it and make him a god among heroes. Makes sense.
Sieran went from a happy-go-lucky eternal optimist to a sacrificial pawn with an entire life ahead of her. I just don’t get it. Could someone enlighten me as to what I’m missing?
Discuss.
There’s a command for “target nearest enemy” in the options. You could do as my brother did, and set tab to that command rather than “select next enemy”, or set another key to that command (I used “C”) so you retain functionality of both. From what I’ve seen, the target nearest enemy command is not dependent on the camera angle, so it won’t be targeting the wandering moa in the background
Makes sense the Dwayna one’s in the ruins. I’ll check it out. That event mercury mentioned is probably the one the NPC is referring to. Been running around that area and it hasn’t started, so I guess I’ll run into it some other day :P
Thanks everyone!
If you’re in the Order of Whispers, talking to the two people in the screenshots below gives you information on hidden events/treasure, or so it seems. For the life of me, I combed both areas looking for what they are describing and couldn’t find anything close to what they were referring to. Has anyone found the spots these two are referring to? I’m quite curious…

No such thing as a two-handed axe.
For all weapon types available, see the wiki page:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapon
In the month or so after release where all areas of Orr were flooded, yes, the temples were all uncontested for periods of time (at least on JQ). I don’t think anyone spotted any special effects though :/
If you have the loot from the last chest still in your inventory, the chest usually doesn’t appear (at least for me). I noticed this a few weeks back when I was doing Tequatl with an alt that’s parked there. It’s not 100% consistent, but ever since I’ve been clearing out the inventory on my alts parked at each dragon, I haven’t run into the no-chest bug even once.
Could all be a coincidence on my end, but it might be worth a shot if you’re not already clearing your inventory.
It was totally editable in GW1, I don’t see why they didn’t include that feature. They also left out how it appears when you log in, so that all guildies are aware of any new messages without checking it in the guild panel.
So +1, should’ve been there in the first place :P
I know classes were added in expansions. That is not the point anyone is making. Since you’re staunchly in support of a “Monk class that fits the roles and the purpose of GW2”, maybe you should suggest such a class idea. A well-developed idea so we can see where you’re coming from. Right now you’re essentially saying: “Bring back the monk, but make it a little different”. That’s not a thought-out suggestion.
Give us at least a loose idea of it’s unique mechanic (i.e. Eles have attunements, Thieves have initiative, Warriors have adrenaline, etc.), what weapons it’d use, etc, etc.
And by the way, the Devs said quite early on that the “monk” would not be making a return in this game. To be honest, I still don’t see the need for such a class.
I’d suggest that it should require a damaging fall. That way there’s a risk/reward involved, rather than just a free opening move that leaves you with all your current weapon skills available. If it behaves similarly to how the diving goggles’ skills appear, that would probably be best imo.
“This isn’t going to end well.”
For him
I don’t follow what you mean… If you rally when solo, you rally. Back to normal state. If you get downed multiple times in succession you straight-up die due to the death penalty. If you lose aggro you can use #4 to heal yourself back up. Am I missing something here? :/
I agree. If an ignore/block function exists, it should prevent you from seeing any form of chat, emotes, etc.

Wiki is your friend
why not ah full healer class in the next expasion?
Because it goes against their (arguably successful/unsuccessful) attempt to revolutionize the MMO by eliminating the tank/dps/heal trinity. Healing is a part of that trinity, so right off the bat it’s a solid no.
PvP does have much room for improvement, can’t argue there. Guild Halls are already supposedly on the way though, so no need to scream about that.
