Number-crunching for ecto salvages – periodically updated
Fractal Frequenter already exists.
Limitless AP (as NinjaEd said) from anything is a bad idea. Look at what they did with the limitless AP from salvaging. They had to nerf/fix it because people were farming ungodly amounts of AP from it. Most importantly, now that AP actually give tangible rewards, this seriously hurts players who aren’t far in fractals or dislike them.
They’re not democratic in the sense that each person is not limited one vote. If I recall, what was said was that since this is a pirate town, many dirty tricks are allowed. The so called “Support Tokens” we’ll be using on each candidate might be tracked on their end and count as votes for either candidate. We’ll just have to wait and see until the intricacies are released. Unless they already have and I missed them :P
Or since the other parts of the Gift of Mastery are account bound, create/use an alt to complete all the skill challenges. I recently did this for my Anomaly (requires the same Bloodstone Shard) for my elementalist by completing all the skill challenges on my ranger alt.
WvW is also a huge source of xp during primetime hours when everything’s flipping.
Because they aren’t classified as heal skills. They’re classified as weapon skills. Also, they don’t “only heal”. They provide a field for people to combo in and compound the healing (or regen).
I’ve gotten charged 2 or 3 times, nothing extra once, 5 extra (8 total) twice. Seems each has a chance, but not limited to x lifetime occurrences.
I’m only about 450 salvages into my goal of tracking 1000 consecutive ones, and the argument that you need huge sample sizes is showing to be a bit wrong. Granted, 20 samples is a joke. Once you break 100 consecutive salvages, the deviation from the accepted rate is very small (so far) in my tracking and at 200 is practically nonexistent. You don’t need many hundreds or thousands to prove whether or not the rate is broken, but close to 100 is advisable.
@Kraggy: I’d bet good money that after the last (and only) fiasco with salvage rates they’ve set up a system where they can quickly check the rates. They’ve probably also decoupled the rates (as much as possible) from other lines of code that interacted with them to avoid this. Realize that in the one and only broken salvage rate bug, Smith didn’t say that they were fine, but went right away and checked it. It’s not as if they’d been broken for weeks and he was ignoring it. Screwups like that one bring bad publicity and an angry player base. They don’t give players a motivation to buy gems to support the game they’re playing.
I’d go with gems. Precursors are probably also a bad long-term investment since they have confirmed that they are working on the scavenger hunt thing, of which they will give no warning when it’s released. If you’re only going away for a month or two, you’ll be fine. If it’s a year or more, I’d avoid precursors.
Nope. It’s this magical thing called bad luck. I’ve done 67 salvages since the last patch with a ~0.82 ecto/salv rate atm. That’s well within the deviation I’ve found in previous sample sizes of 50ish (accepted rate is 0.9) at around plus or minus 0.2 from the 0.9 salv rate.
Way to ignore the points and run with those red herrings.
I addressed your points where Arenanet hides behind “vague rules and subjective interpretations” of their rules on macros, of which they do not. They’re under very clear rules. No red herring here, you brought up those points.
Call me whatever, but the occasional slips where professionalism are lacking are often deserved. The person you quoted as an example was basing the validity of the macro on a total (maybe intentional) misinterpretation of the rules. People like that should be told they’re wrong, and forcefully so they don’t potentially lead others into breaking rules based on false interpretations.
It is clear. One key = 1 function. Pressing one key that equates to pressing F satisfies this. Pressing one key that spams F some number of times does not, as it’s functioning as pressing F more than once. If you want to (mis)interpret the rules to bend them in your favor, go ahead and take the risk. They’re actually very straightforward if you read them carefully. If it simplifies the matter for you, look at it like this: One keypress = one keypress.
And by the way, the edge does not have to be skill related. If you can open 20 stacks of material bags in (for example) 10 mins with such a macro, how is that not an advantage over someone who has to manually double-click for an hour straight to get the same result? Here’s a clue: it’s an unfair advantage.
It’s to prevent rampant exploits if I had to guess. It’s still extremely useful for travel and re-positioning (out of AoE for instance) when channeling something like Meteor Shower.
Could be their first attempt at building Rata Sum in the sky (or some other city). Some key technology failed and bam, one looney asura is all that was left once everyone else died from the accident. Then they scrapped it and rebuilt it properly as what we see now. Could be their collective failure made the asurans quiet about the incident, considering their narcissistic attitudes/culture. This is pure speculation ofc.
Stack toughness and watch everything try to rip your face off. My elementalist runs mostly knight’s gear and has armor at ~2800. At Melandru for example, the boss and most vets & champs target me over the 5+ zerk warriors pounding on them when I’m kiting with a staff. Toughness seems to take priority over damage when it comes to aggro for some reason. Just my personal experience.
Considering all the mail-scamming going on right now, there’s a good chance you got burned.
But! Remind him to clear out his mailbox. The 10 mail cap will block any new mail from getting through.
Practice makes perfect. Run the JP when server populations are at the lowest. Early morning is usually a good time. I’ve run that JP more times than I care to count, and routinely finish it in under 10 minutes with only one or two failed jumps (that actually set me back) if there’s no one around to jump me.
Lots of the jumps are very long and do push you to the edge of your limits. Use a character with a 25% speed boost signet or swiftness. That trivializes most of the “difficult” jumps in this puzzle.
It’s the most intimidating puzzle so far (excluding the halloween one, missed it). If you want to be able to do it, you need to practice and find a way to avoid getting frustrated. My first successful run through without enemies killing me half-way in took easily 45+mins due to failures. It’s not intended to be easy.
In regard to the dark room specifically, I’ve found torch #3 much more helpful than #2. The fire field at your feet stretches your visibility plenty, and is always enough to see the next jump.
I don’t have any specifics, but after playing/seeing GW2 on several different machines, CPU is much more important than graphics. My mom’s old Q6600 (2.4GHz quad core) with an ATI4000 series card (weaker end, forgot the exact #) runs GW2 better than my current desktop with an overclocked 1055t (3.5GHz six core) and a nvidia 560TI.
That’s not saying you shouldn’t have a dedicated graphics card, but don’t skimp on the CPU or you’ll struggle playing the game on the higher settings.
Edited to add: Since it may be unclear, stick with Intel processors even if they have a slower clock speed than a similar AMD one at the same price. I’m pretty certain that the Intel one will provide much better performance.

It’s a problem on Anet’s end. TP has had problems for quite a while and logging out and back seems to help. That being said, I have noticed that the problem has become worse over the last couple of weeks.
It definitely has and it’s a little concerning. I used to only hit this problem maybe 1-3 times per week, and I’ve hit it more times than I care to count today alone :/
Engineers and elementalists by design have no weapon swap due to weapon kits and attunements (respectively).
decrease the activation timer too.
No for that.
Events spawn way too much as it is. Go to Queensdale and count the amount of times troll/wasp/boar/oak are announced in map chat within an hour.
We need variety, not repetition
Depends on the area. The nerf in the repetition of the Cursed Shore camps was a bit excessive and unnecessary. They pretty much doubled the time which drove everyone out.
Agreed that Queensdale is a joke. Most champs respawn on a 10-15 min timer and go down in seconds.
Legendaries generally look better than most other weapons of the same type. They’re also guaranteed to be upgraded stat-wise whenever ascended or higher tier weapons are released, guaranteeing it will always be BiS. Since this question usually follows: It’s currently unknown whether legendaries with transmuted stats will be upgraded when ascended weapons are released. (I’m talking about ascended stat-wise, not the fractal skins.)
I’m guessing the guy is still around, but soon after release there was a person hopping between servers scamming people through mail trading until he hit 100g. He then bought a commander pin to appear more trustworthy and continued the scamming. As far as I know, he wasn’t banned even after his name was publicized on other forums and was reported countless times ingame. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scammed all the way to a legendary or two :/
I’m not sure if I recall correctly, but I believe Arenanet said something along the lines of this: If you want to trade by mail, you do it at your own risk. They’re not liable for you choosing to avoid the scam-free TP.
If you insist on mail-trading, always request that they send their portion first. No half-sies, no bullkittys. I’d avoid it altogether though. The fees on the TP are not that bad unless you’re selling big ticket items, which reek of scam at this point in the game.
Oh sorry, WvW = World vs. World. Hit “B” and you can see how your server is doing and join the fight. Check the wiki page for the overview of how it works: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wvw
I’m a noob with my thief, so I’m not too sure whether S/P is good or not :x
[Group Event]. At minimum scaling, it’s not supposed to be doable by one person. Get about 5+ people and you can do it.
Group events in lower level zones are still doable solo sometimes since even through downleveling you’re a bit overpowered. In lvl 80 zones that’s rarely the case.
So, buy something for 4c from the TP, and then sell where for profit? The mats could be worth 20g and you still wouldn’t be able to profit… This is just another one of the worthless food products produced when people level cooking. I’d bet there are hundreds of these…
For builds and such, check out the thief forum section. You can generally ignore the QQ threads since most class’s forums will scream they’re 100% broken when they aren’t.
For leveling 1-80, you really have only a few options. Since this is your first character, I suggest you do world completion + personal story to level. Each race has a starting zone you can hop to when you need just another level or two to jump to the next higher leveled zone. As a thief, you may find lots of the personal story missions to be a tad difficult (esp. since it’s your first char) due to thieves being inherently squishy, so you may want to be a bit overleveled when you do them.
You can do WvW to level as it’s insanely good XP. Downside is that since you’re upleveled to 80 without traits/gear, you’re substantially weaker than an actual level 80, and that upleveled icon next to your name when someone selects you will make you a magnet for enemy attackers. If you find WvW enjoyable, I suggest you stick to the zerg until you’re lvl 70+, otherwise you’ll get your behind kicked into oblivion when roaming most of the time :P
Almost forgot. D/D is good, but you have two weapon sets at your disposal. Use them, or otherwise you’re missing out. I’ve found the shortbow to be a good secondary due to the #5 skill which can quickly get you out of sticky situations if you burn stealth as well.
No malice intended, but I do kinda hope one of these threads will fail for once. Prices on most of the rares I forge have gone up by more than 10% since these threads are popping up and I’m feeling it’s becoming more of a waste of money…
My QQ aside, good luck. I’ve been doing the occasional forging for my precursor (maybe 10-20 attempts/week) without luck so far. Get yours already so you drop out of the market for rares! :P By the way, which precursor are you going for?
Try running the “-repair” command through your GW2 shortcut first. That should fix any errors if you’ve got some client-side file corruption. Instructions can be found on the wiki page:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line
Keep in mind that sometimes the TP just runs very slowly, no matter how good your connection is at some times of day (like during primetime). If you’re trying to access it in a crowded zone like LA, consider moving outside to Gendarran or Bloodtide to work with it. Sometimes that fixes the problem for me if relogging doesn’t.
You’re hitting DR (Diminishing Returns). It occurs when you do too many events in the same area. If you’re hopping between the same 2-3 events that are rather close (say, Troll, Bandit, and Oak), you’ll probably hit DR. Spread out and hit Boar/Wasp more often. If that doesn’t shake it, switch to another zone for a while.
Only one I can think of, which is kind of a combination of others.
Invisible Equipment Bag: Any armor, weapons, jewelry, etc. that you unequip automatically enter this bag. Also serves as an invisble bag (no sorting/merching).
If you’re transmuting another weapon’s look onto the legendary, you’ll lose all visual effects (skin, footprints, aura, etc.). Stat-wise I’m not sure if it would keep legendary status, as I really haven’t seen someone do this before. The question about whether transmuted legendaries will be upgraded has been asked countless times before without answer. It’s likely the devs won’t even know until they start building the framework and/or implement the change.
I think it’s very likely that ascended gear will remain the highest tier and infusions will just get better and better so Arenanet can satisfy the gear-grind crowd and the casuals simultaneously without the huge uproar that came with ascended. If that becomes the case, I’d suggest you skip out altogether on getting the legendary and just work for the ascended weapons when they come out, as they will surely be much less of a grind.
If I recall, all the vets there are acolytes(?) which only fire ranged projectiles. Depending on your class, if you can block/reflect/stealth you can get the point even while they helplessly attack you.
Otherwise guesting is the best option. There are plenty of resources to check temple status, quickest one to see which servers have it open that I’ve found is the one on http://www.gw2bear.com/
Scroll to the bottom left, pick the temple, and it shows which servers have it open. Balthazar is one of the more annoying ones, so there isn’t always one server with it open. If possible, check them during the hours after reset as that’s when people complete all the temples and such for the daily bonus chest.
This game is dead.
Play in an empty server and of course the game seems dead. Play in a full server and you’ll realize that there are people roaming in every zone. In leveling all 5 characters on JQ, I never hit a deserted zone going from 1-80. And that was in the days we wrecked everyone in WvW and there was a much smaller PvE population than there is now.
@OP: What server are you on? Try transferring to one of the top tier WvW servers or roleplay servers (NA one is Tarnished Coast, not sure of Euro). Those tend to be well populated throughout.
Never killed anyone in a loading screen, or been killed in a loading screen. Always been able to get past spawn campers too, even if it took a try or two. People like you seem to like to QQ rather than L2P..it’s sad.
I would love to see you try getting through that one. Automatic immobilize spam and AoE to run out of. Good luck. Practically the only way you could get through it is if you’re a thief and drop stealth quickly so you can bail once the immobilize runs out. And that’s if the AoE doesn’t kill you, and if you load into the zone quickly enough to be able to react.
The issue here isn’t that people want to stop ganking, it’s that no matter how skilled you are, you’re dead by the time you can control your character. And that my friend, is not fair no matter how you look at it.
They will need to add entire maps for the areas to add in the other dragons, so they will most likely only be added with expansions.
Jormag is further up in the Shiverpeaks
Primordus is underground
Kralka-whathisname is in the Crystal Desert
And “Bubbles” controls the oceans so he will most likely come with the Elona (or hopefully Cantha? Cmon devs, pretty please?) expansion. There will be no expansions, which leads me to believe there will be no dragons.
None planned for now. Colin himself said they aren’t ruling them out. Don’t spread falsehoods because it might prove a point.
Considering the elder dragons are the only true threat to the world, we will likely not see them come quickly. Once they’re all done people will get the feeling that they’re done with the game (I sure would), so the developers will likely prolong it as long as possible without turning people off the game.
Unless you’re a thief, there’s no way you’d be able to get past that spawncamp, considering they even had people on the bottom. Net turrets will spam immobilize. This IS an exploit whether you like it or not. The only change being asked for is for people at spawn to not be killable, so that spawncamping isn’t an issue. This isn’t an L2P issue. This is an issue dealing with what is fair and what is not.
It was done soon after release, mainly because there was a huge oversupply of them. Look at the graph on spidy and hit “all” so you can see the timeframe soon after release.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19726
Considering the oversupply was most likely due to everyone farming/leveling in early zones, I don’t see why they haven’t reverted the change. Could be that this is a healthy balance from the market’s point of view.
Only through the Black Lion Chests if I recall correctly.
Edit: Dang ninjas…
TLDR at bottom.
It’s pretty obvious that these boss events are a complete joke. Instead of giving an elaborate suggestion on how to extensively change the boss mechanics, I’d rather focus on something simple: Force people to deal with the current boss mechanics. I believe this would be a good first-step to improving these encounters.
Stand in front of the Shatterer when you fight him. Just do it once. All the AoEs and other attacks require you to actually pay attention to survive and do damage. Lots of them are somewhat telegraphed and hit maybe only a second after the red-circles appear, leaving little time to react. The huge problem here is that when you stand beside him, you’re out of his attack zone and therefore immune to anything he spits at you. The (considerably large) safespot in this fight lets people hit 1, afk the rest, and enjoy the credit/reward for completing the event. Put some protective walls around his sides and back, or some branded pillars/crystals that spam conditions (like the plants nearby) so people need to defend themselves one way or another during the fight.
Same goes for Tequatl. It seems that at some point Tequatl is supposed to force you back to the cannons/turrets, yet fails to do so. When he’s dropping the poison bombs from his wings (or whatever you’d like to call them) they should coat the entire area under him up to where he spawns the wall, forcing people out of range rather than just a few paces back if at all. Then bring up the wall and force people to either use the cannons or their own skills to take out the wall so they can then charge in and take him out. Also, the risen Tequatl spawns should patrol between the cannons and Tequatl himself. It makes no sense that Tequatl spawns large numbers of allies who are just standing around with the corpses of the hylek at the cannons while their master is getting his feet/face torn to shreds.
Surprisingly enough, the Claw of Jormag seems to be the only one here that forces you to deal with his mechanics to some extent. Again, the problem is that people find the nice little safespots just out of range of the ice and his attacks. This boss needs only a few simple fixes since they recently (kind of) removed one of the safespots. The deadly ice needs to reach out far enough to block people with 1500 range projectiles (which go further than 1500 range) from hitting him during phase 2 so they can’t just semi-afk the fight, and the ice needs to continue damaging people when downed so that it truly becomes a threat. I’ve seen the same people who regularly do the event at the same time I do continuously go down on the ice without even a clue as to what the cause was since they can just revive themselves up with #4. It makes no sense that the ice can’t fully kill you. For phase 1, remove the safespot on the right side of the wall by either removing the terrain or widening the range of his attacks.
TLDR: Eliminate safespots to force people to deal with the current boss mechanics. Don’t bother reinventing the encounters as it will mean nothing if safespots still exist. If you move away from the safespots in these fights, you’d realize they’re not all that boring and faceroll easy to do.
Disclaimer: I run these events (almost) daily, so I’m not writing this to target people and nerf their rewards. If the dragons’ health needs to be reduced so the encounters do not start taking double or triple the time, I have no argument against that. I’m looking for a fix that makes these events enjoyable, not a pointless time-sink.
You should be able to accomplish everything if you put in the time to practice and get good at it. If you have a physical handicap they can’t really help you with that and although I don’t want to be mean here, they shouldn’t help out. It would be unfair to others who have to put in the time and effort to get the achievement that you’re given practically for free or with minimal effort. And let’s not get into how this would be abused by those who aren’t truly handicapped like you :/
My only advice to you is, try getting hardware that helps you out. A keyboard that’s easier to work with can help. Key sizes and spacing vary a little between keyboards but make a considerable difference in your capabilities. Also consider one of the many MMO mice to put more buttons right at your fingertips.
Everyone paid for the game. The "I paid for it so I should get ‘x’ " argument is baseless and wreaks of entitlement.
It’s supposed to be cost prohibitive so that only those who truly want it can get it. I can’t seem to find the quote, but the developers said (around release if not before) that legendaries were supposed to take months and months to complete, to show that you were a “dedicated” player. Considering you can just buy them off the TP after using a credit card for gold, it kind of defeats that idea, but I digress…
If you planned on getting it in a week or two, you’d have to be insanely lucky and/or whip out a credit card to buy gems for gold to buy the parts. It’s a long term project, and I suggest you don’t solely focus on one part at a time or you will burn yourself out like I almost did. I’m about 2/3 of the way to Bifrost (minus precursor ofc) and I have yet to run CoF or take part in any of the short term (arguably exploiting) farms that have come and gone.
It seems to be happening with most destructible items. The Ice Pillars in the Claw of Jormag fight have the same behavior. I really doubt it’s a specific server issue (I’m JQ).
The PvP ones (Dragonball) do not count. That one should.
“I said shut your G**D**** mouth you F****ing salad bowl. Why don’t you go roll a real toon instead of some hippy F**s lunch.”
At this point all of us were quite shocked and taken back. When we tried to call him out he claimed that he was just RPing and we should chill out since it was just a game…. and at that we all left his TS and went on to other things.
It may be “just a game”. It may have been “in character” but I tell you what else it was it was hurtful. Mean and no less disturbing than real world racism
People being shocked and taken back to someone yelling and insulting someone for no reason whatsoever has little to do with racism. No offense intended, but you’re really grasping at straws to keep this argument alive. If anything, the use of “salad bowl” softens the nasty tone of that guy’s statement.
Check the POI added in SE Divinity’s Reach. If you’ve already got it, check off the maps one by one. There have been numerous POIs added to many zones over the past few months. Note that some maps (like Divinity’s Reach) don’t show the completion status when you mouse over them, so you’ll have to visit those select few to check the map once you zone in. It’s tedious but I’m certain you’re missing the POI. You don’t lose the achievement or title when they add new POI’s though, so don’t sweat it.
I’d say Engineer, followed by Ele.
Usually when I see engineers roaming in WvW, it’s “oh hey, easy kill”. Then there are the few who can take on two or more and leave me dead, thinking “what… just… happened…?”. Elementalists are second for me simply due to the insane amount of button-mashing going on. And if you waste that combo field, you won’t be happy…
We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.
It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.
We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.
From about a month ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-Legendaries-Rework/first#post2074359
If they’d sticky these threads or somehow move them into a new thread that gets stickied, we’d be done with the precursor question. They’re working on it, and won’t give us a timeline so people don’t scream and cry when they’re 5 minutes late and so the precursor market doesn’t go nuts twice (speculation+actual reaction).
Post 6/25 patch I’ve done 54 salvages with the Master Kit and am at an average of 0.926 ectos/salvage. I’ve actually been holding strong at a bit above 0.9 ectos per salvage since the infamous salvage rate fix (with 202 salvages), which is slightly above the accepted rate of 0.8 ectos/salvage. From my small data, there doesn’t seem to be any significant change.
I’m going to have to bring up the age-old sample size argument. Even at 200 salvages, I still haven’t landed on the accepted rate. At the very least throw in a good 50 or so salvages to start up one of these threads. Counting sample sizes of 50, my averages range from 0.8-1.08. They’re a bit off from the accepted values, but they’re still close enough to show there doesn’t seem to be any substantial changes to the salvage rates.
When I started tracking values (all post-patch), my first 20 salvages only yielded 0’s and 1’s, with an average of 0.55 ectos per salvage. Looks like pre-patch behavior, right? Wrong, just RNG because I was pumping out 2’s and 3’s soon thereafter.
I just previewed them fine. Are you sure you’re looking at the exotics? All of the rare versions of the dungeon armors share appearances in all dungeons. The exotics are the ones that have the unique skins.
There are some with similar hilts, but not quite the same as far as I can tell. Chances are it’s just a concept art sword that never made it into the game (or was modified in the in-game version).
I don’t know if there is a site or anyone tracking the new POI’s. Right now you’re probably missing the one in south Gendarran Fields, which will become unlockable July 1st(?) if I recall.
