Number-crunching for ecto salvages – periodically updated
It stays purple. Whether it will upgrade on its own when ascended weapons are released is currently unknown. No official statement has been made on that question as far as I know.
Clear out your mail. There’s a cap of 10 mails at a time, so once you clear them out, you should receive all your orders/pending mail. If that doesn’t work, then definitely contact support.
The biggest problem with the dragon events right now is that they have safe-spots. During the ice shield phase of the Claw, everyone just practically afk auto-attacks it to death and then charges in to DPS him. For the ice shield phase of Claw, stand in front of the shield, away from the safe-spot. Look at that, there’s attacks you need to avoid/deal with! The dragons might just start to be a challenge when people are forced to actually deal with their mechanics instead of standing around in safespots and 1-spamming them to death.
Could more be done? Heck yeah. But unless safespots are dealt with, no changes in combat mechanics will mean squat.
Those asking for exact timelines are the very people (most of the time) who scream and cry when the deadlines aren’t met, or don’t even throw out a “thank you” if it comes early. That’s why they’ve said time and time again that they will not give timelines on specific fixes with the exception of Living Story. It lets them spend less time dealing with demanding, impatient people and more time working on actual important things.
Meteorlogicus isn’t all that bad. Other legendaries are in need of much more help than that one. Despite what many people say, I doubt they’re dumb enough to release a whole set of new legendaries without fixing the current ones first, so just wait for it. I’ve got a feeling that those fixes will come along with the scavenger hunt so they can call it a “Legendary” update (see what I did there?). Don’t hold your breath though, I doubt it’s coming soon.
Staff is the king of CC. As slither said, you have a host of snares, knockbacks, stuns, etc. and a modest damage output. Scepter/dagger is a bit more close-range (900 range vs 1200), but offers many defensive abilities. Both of these are great for leveling. Dagger/dagger is pretty much the meta/endgame most people go with. High damage output at in-your-face range.
In case it sheds some light, I leveled with a staff from 1-65ish, and then swapped to scepter/dagger for the added mobility and damage (in PvE, I don’t PvP outside WvW), which helped tremendously in Orr. I only picked up dagger/dagger after 80 once I had my exotic gear set so I’d have just a little more room for error as I learned to use it.
For traits, most elementalists will go with 30 in water and 30 in arcana as a staple for fast attunement swapping and added vitality (plus the trait choices that are the most useful are in those two segments). For offense, people usually go with the 10 remaining points in air, for defense in earth.
I hate thieves.
That being said, they don’t need such a severe nerf. What class/build are you using? If you’re going glass-cannon against a thief, you’re probably going to lose. Zerker thieves can shred you quickly if you’re not specced defensively. I run knight’s gear and 0/0/10/30/30 on my ele and although I can’t kill them easily, they can’t kill me a good 9/10 times due to insane CC spam on my end :P Plus, if an ally jumps in the fight, the fact the thief will be snared means he’s dead if he doesn’t stealth away. Play a thief on an empty slot if you can. I was beyond helpless against thieves until I played one and (somewhat) learned how they worked. It’s helped me immensely in dealing with them
Currently the only problem I see with thieves is that they can be killed if and only if they choose to put themselves in a risky situation. The fact they can just burn stealth and flee at the flick of a wrist is at the very least, an extremely annoying mechanic. The times I usually notice theives going down is if 1) they’re terrible/newbies (I once practically auto-attacked one to death with my ranger…) or 2) they’re being ganged up on 1v2+. On that note, if there’s multiple decent people in a group, it’s very difficult for a single thief to take them all out, so you might want to reconsider what groups you run with lol :P
Oh and one more thing fix the “projected profit” to include both fees. At least then the box won’t be lying about how much you will profit.
Only part I can agree with. The argument that every method Arenanet uses to take money out of the game exists for people to convert gems→gold is getting really old. If that were true, by now the game would be a ghost town even in the most populated servers, which is not the case. I don’t see the fees’ existence as a problem at all.
Not available, and lots of people seem to want it :P
85 Master kit salvages since the patch that “fixed” the issue, and my current average is 0.858823529 ectos per salvage according to my spreadsheet. A bit above the average right now, but probably due to the rather small sample size. By the date labels, my average for post-Dragon Bash patch are sitting at exactly 1 ecto per salvage (round number? CoNsPiRaCy!11!). Granted that’s only 29 salvages and really looks like a lucky streak, so I’m waiting for the 0’s to hit lol. All the items were L76-80 rares dropped from boss events, bonus chests, and fractals.
Small sample size, but I’m definitely not seeing any bugs in the salvage rates.
If you have active crafting disciplines, you can check what materials you currently have by looking in your crafting tab in the Hero panel. It’s rather inefficient and dependent on what recipes/level/profession you’re set on atm, but it does count what’s in the bank towards the totals.
Yes, I saw that. The thread where they said there will be no mounts is over a month old and no longer searchable. As to why the threads are not closed, talking about mounts are not against forum rules.
And I didn’t say I disliked/disapproved of mounts. Please point out where I said that. I merely showed the link in wiki about mounts.
Please point out where I explicitly stated you dislike/disapprove of mounts? I simply stated my own point of view, not yours… Did I phrase it unclearly? If so, my apologies. I just don’t see it :/
Talking about mounts wouldn’t be against the forum rules, but moderators would probably be quick to reference the previous statement made by developers, if it were a decisive yes/no. Heck, I would’ve saved the link myself if I saw it XD
I’ve found the approach to mounts that most games take (if not at the start, in the long run) is that they try to make them as flashy and attention grabbing as possible. I don’t want to be running around a city or in the open world and see someone riding an oversized dolyak with a golden harness and decorative wings. That’s an exaggeration of course, but you get my point. I don’t want giant things getting in the way all over the place. Also, I don’t like the idea of said mounts in combat during the open-world boss fights which are already laggy as hell. I’m no programmer/game-designer so I have no clue if it’s an optimization issue, but until I’m getting maybe 20+ FPS on world events vs. the <10 I’m getting right now (with a computer well above the “recommended” specs), I’d be voting firmly against more complex animations in combat that exist purely for players’ vanity reasons.
If they’re purely cosmetic (preferably not gaudy), offer no speed boost greater than 33% (swiftness-equivalent), and are banned in cities and combat, then by all means, go for it. You can travel from point A→B in “style” and I can happily WP from A→B, and neither of us will annoy one another.
Here is your link where they say no mounts.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions
Will there be mounts?
No. For traveling long distance, the game will offer the two types of teleports above (waypoints and asura gates), but the initial release does not have any other methods, i.e. there are no mounts or ships. They have also said this on the forums, but threads past a certain age can no longer be searched for and so I couldn’t locate that.
As someone who dislikes/disapproves of mounts, please make sure you emphasize the proper context. If you look at that statement, it comes with the specific qualifier that there will be no mounts at release. They did not say they will never add mounts, nor did they say they might in the future.
As far as I know, there has been no solid yes/no to mounts from the developers, otherwise these threads would be insta-closed. They did state that there wouldn’t be mounts in F&F, but nothing since.
For the ones that don’t show up when mousing over, yes, you’ll have to visit them. Realize this is a minority, so when you make your list, check off the ones you can mouse-over first to save yourself the time (and WP cost). Make your list however you’d like, I took a screenshot of that interactive map and just threw a red line over the ones I finished in Paint lol :P Many ways to do it.
The only instanced POI is that in the Chantry of Secrets. All the others will show in the open world. The little info-box on the top left is always correct as far as I’ve seen.
And yes, I agree that it not showing completion is a bug. What I was referring to was that there’s no bug where it claims there are missing POI, Vistas, etc. when you actually have 100%; this doesn’t happen. If it says you’re missing something, you are.
Login screen rounds up the percentage, ingame rounds down. That’s the discrepancy you’re seeing. With respect to titles, it won’t count until you truly hit 100%.
Do it methodically and check the zones off the list. As far as I’ve seen, there aren’t any bugs where you actually have 100% completion and don’t get credit aside from the occasional need to re-visit the Chantry of Secrets in Bloodtide Coast.
Use this as a reference as you make your checklist, it’s the easiest one as far as I’ve seen: http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/interactive-maps/
Also note that mousing over some areas will not show completion (like Divinity’s Reach), so you’ll have to actually go there to check the progress. Unknown POIs, Vistas, etc will not show on the world map either unless you’re specifically in the zone.
As Winespring said, your bank’s balance must be 200g. It counts the highest amount of gold you’ve had in your bank at one time. Depositing and withdrawing 10g multiple times will not progress the title. Also note that titles aren’t linear in tiers. They escalate. Tier one may be 10, tier two 50, tier 3 200, etc.
Were you tracking them on a spreadsheet? It may “feel” like you did 300+ and only got back about 60, but the actual results may be very different since we tend to dwell on the negative :/ Keep track of your salvages from now on (if you aren’t), it makes it easier to credibly shed light on a potential problem and reassure yourself that it isn’t just biased perception. I’m doing that for this exact reason
If I had to guess, blues/greens will have a chance at salvaging their attribute specific T5/6 mat. In other words, salvage a blue L80 Berserker’s mace, small chance for T6 blood, slightly better chance for T5 blood. Greens would have a better shot at the higher tier drop, but no guaranteed material yield.
I think the issue with (the expensive) lodestones is availability. I’m guessing they may simply start with detaching mob spawns from events, like sparks from Dwayna so that they’re farmable at all times. I really doubt they’ll introduce them into the low-end salvage tables because I’d guess they’d become as common as dirt.
Magic find only affects monster drops, absolutely nothing else. See the wiki page
Get it with karma. Here you go: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kiryn_Brant

You’re welcome!
Those are soulbound and hence cannot be put on the TP. Wrong one :/
@OP: Not sure, but if I had to guess it’s an item that’s probably been removed since it’s clearly messed up :P
This is one of the reasons the portals in Taminn take forever to go down since no one wants to do them and run the risk of missing SB. When I do them, I always WP back or I’d otherwise miss it. And between loading time and running to SB, he’s usually at 1/2 health by then too.
If they’d add a 30 sec-1min delay to his spawn similarly to how Golem Mark II is, it’d fix this problem and no longer be an issue to anyone. It’s not like waiting one minute is a huge deal. Missing the event because you did the pre-event is rather frustrating.
Finally killed some time looking for anything specific, aaaaaand…
Small suggestions: I think you should have the mats for the mystic clovers shown based on the average 1/3 return rate. Someone who might solely use this app to collect materials might end up confused when they notice it’s an RNG based system for those. Mimicking the wiki’s method of listing them would probably be the easiest way. On that note, embedding wiki links might also be a decent idea for added clarity/info on items’ specific acquisition if it’s possible to toggle them on/off.
I’d wait until some real bugfixes or additions are needed though. May not be worth a whole new build for tiny things like these considering it’s pretty darn good as-is
Well, considering the only actual farming I’d do was in Orr, I’m less inclined to play. I knock out the meta events on one char (for the daily bonus chest), run a fractal for that daily, and call it a day. If I finish all my work and still for some reason have time to waste, I’ll hop into WvW if I’ve got nothing better to do in RL. But the motivation has been seriously weakened. That extra time used to be spent in Orr where I found farming to be fruitful. If I didn’t hate dungeon farming I probably would’ve jumped onto the CoF bandwagon, but I really hate it…
I have nothing to prove to you. Either they will check and make sure they didn’t reintroduce a bug, or they won’t.
Problem is, they’ve only checked when people provided stats of their salvages clearly showing something was wrong. Post “fix” I’ve been tracking my salvages (which aren’t many tbh) and I personally haven’t seen any oddities. Posting your salvage results will likely get this thread the attention (of the developers) you believe it deserves. If you just claim you’re right and have nothing to prove, neither do the developers.
Hehe, I know how I dodge backwards (I use s+v), but I wanted to know how Lexy does, seeing how he/she is using s to move forward and turning around to run the other way is way too slow, mouse or no mouse.
When you stand still and hit the dodge key, the default direction is away from your target, and if no target is selected it’s backwards. That’s probably it if I had to guess.
Possible, but highly unlikely. People have thoroughly experimented the combinations.
Yes you can. I haven’t done it myself, but it was brought up on the wiki discussion page and someone confirmed it’s doable. The answer hasn’t been contended since November, so it’s a safe bet he/she was right.
As redundant as this sounds, check the maps again. Do it methodically. Make a list and physically check them off one by one. Use the interactive map provided by Yellow, and just mark them off one by one once you’ve confirmed it’s at 100%. Don’t forget the Chantry of Secrets (instanced POI) in Bloodtide Coast if you haven’t done it yet.
It’s impossible for you to have 100% everything and still be missing that large a number of POI+WP. You’re probably just overlooking one zone without realizing it
Some of the (arguable) advantage may come from these players’ use of a mmo mouse like the Logitech G600 or Razer Naga. The G600 (I use it) has 12 buttons at the thumb, which I set for skills 6-0, F1-F4, and call/select target. I also use the third far mouse button for dodge since your idle ring finger rests on it. Keep in mind I could already comfortably reach #1-6 and F1-F4, but I got the mouse to reduce strain and well… be lazy :P
Anywho, lots of people here have posted rather elaborate changes to the keybinds in the past, so I’ll wait for them to chime in. Usually keybind setups (at least to me) that others provide will need to be tweaked a bit to fit your style. In the meantime, you may want to simply experiment on your own by rebinding keys near your hand used to move that are currently idle.
If you can’t get the helmets back (which is the likely case), at least learn from your mistake. In GW1 I’d always strip my characters of every last little thing they owned before deleting them. I never ran into an “Oops I deleted something fancy!” problem because of this. It’s a habit a lot of people should really learn. Saves you and support the hassle of dealing with these issues :/
ok scratch some of that I found under infusions where ya can add the ar and plus 5 to another stat. is that the best these things do?
Most people I know don’t. They’re insanely expensive for what they give you. Lets say you use 6 of the +5 precision ones. That gives you a measly +30 precision maximum, which is essentially +1% crit chance. If you have so much money that you don’t know what to do with, go for it. Otherwise, stick with the Fractal ones which are cheaper and easier to get by far.
I will have to agree with the OP. Knockdowns/knockbacks/stuns are way to common in this game. Many of the holographic MoBs only highlight this issue more.
Sure, I can just load all of my utility slots with anti-crowd control skills. After all, I did not want any kind of choice in my selection of utility skills.
Of course. It’s perfectly reasonable to run a fully offensive setup against mobs built to counter that play-style and then complain about it (/sarcasm). Your build does have some free choices, but it’s also dictated by who you’re up against. You can’t reasonably expect to fight CC oriented mobs without any trouble when you don’t bring some of your own CC.
I have two dodge moves I can also use. Good thing the holographic MoBs are not transparent and are easy to see.
Aside from snowy areas, they are easy to see. It’s only when their transparent color matches the ground that it becomes troublesome, which can easily be avoided. Lots of classes have weapons/skills that have evade abilities. Use those if necessary.
Well, at least I know that after I have used my dodge moves and all of my utility skills to help me avoid the crowd control that at the least those crowd control skills will be on long cooldowns and won’t be spammable.
As someone else stated, you don’t just spam CCs and expect to win. You spread your CCs out for maximum longevity and pump out damage in between. This should not be a problem.
It is rather excessive compared to other games, but it’s not like you lack counters to it. Most pulls/KD from mobs are either melee range or projectiles. Use reflection, cripple, chill, etc. Burn stability as a last resort. Yeah, you’ll kill the enemy slower, but you won’t be stun-locked either.
I crafted mine about 2-3 weeks ago. As far as I know it isn’t bugged.
I’ve been tracking my salvages post “fix” and right now after 42 salvages I’m sitting on the “accepted” 0.8 ectos/salvage for master kits. Rather small sample size, but my results are evening out. That’s considering that my last 6 salvages have all been for zero ectos. Yes it’s possible to get 1/10, but your luck will turn around. If I average the first 10 salvages, my ecto/salvage rate is 0.2. RNG is a fickle creature whether you like it or not.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, for rares the ecto rate is 0-3. For exotics I think it’s 0-5. It’s always been this way, barring bugs.

Works fine on my GS3 so far, no odd text sizes or image distortions or what-not. Very simple to use. To be honest, I don’t know how often I’ll actually use it, but it is nice for checking progress when you forget which mats go with which gift, what specifically you have left to get, etc.
Not sure about any legal issues, but considering it’s free and you aren’t claiming any of the content as your own you shouldn’t be in any serious trouble. They may ask you to change some semantics but you should be alright.
This video has been linked about 50000 times on these forums. Back when it was new about a month ago.
^ This.
And from the videos I’ve seen made by this “Dontain”, he preaches his opinion as fact. Yes NCsoft gets the proceeds from gem sales, but do you really think they’ll be pumping most of that into their other small/failing games or their newest moneymaking machine GW2?
Please stop re-posting this guy’s videos. It’s getting annoying.
Why would they introduce a race that forces redesigning multiple zones? As Spiro said, they’re the main human-zone antagonists. Removing them would be require extensive modifications.
These lesser races (i.e. skritt, quaggan, hylek, centaurs, dredge, grawl, ogres, etc.) will likely not even be in the running for being playable until a fleshed out race with an actual homeland/territory (like the Tengu & Dominion of Winds) is released.
I’d assume it’s three separate chances (1 roll at the respective chance for each rune). seeing how they set up cooldowns though, I’m almost certain the 10s cooldown would be shared, so you still wouldn’t be able to spam it.

They know about it, and it shall be fixed at some point. I’d guess it’ll be fixed when the relevant content associated with it gets released, probably in the next segment of Dragon Bash.
Is there no confirmation window? I still haven’t been lucky enough to get a ticket (even in the past events), so I don’t know. If there is a confirmation window, there’s really no excuse. If there isn’t, then they really just need to add one. If the player is too lazy to simply read, then it’s on them. Saves the devs a ton of support tickets to sift through as well.
Otherwise, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be allowed to trade a skin back for a ticket. Since the skins are just that, skins, not items you transmute using stones, they should be easily identifiable for such a trade-back system.
First try restarting the client. That usually fixes random little glitches (although I haven’t seen this one before).
If that doesn’t work, run the repair command following the instructions on this wiki page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line
In essence, just add a -repair to your GW2 shortcut and it’ll check the .dat file for errors and fix them.

Bottom left corner.
Did you guys really think a staple T6 crafting material at 40s is a good thing? To be honest, I don’t know how some people didn’t see this coming. Dust is needed for an insane amount of recipes in comparison to other T6 mats, and was more difficult to farm than other T6 mats. That just doesn’t make sense.
@OP: Even though I profited (by pure luck) quite a bit, I agree completely. Slowly increasing the drop rates or giving incentives for people to head back to Orr would’ve been much better for the markets. But you have to admit, they did fix the ecto and dust problem in one shot, so aside from the lost profits, it isn’t all that bad imo.
Make sure the character you’re crafting it on has learned the recipe from Rojan the Penitent as shown on that wiki page, since it’s not discoverable. If that’s not your issue, I don’t have any other ideas :x
Same thing here on JQ. Lightning hammers are the exploit. Safer to just keep away from this minigame until it’s fixed.
Beautiful timing. I cashed out on my dust yesterday. Hopefully it pays off!
Fair set of changes. I fear the Rich coffers will have droprates similar to the southsun crates and the regular ones will be worse. This is purely idle speculation, but I sure hope not. If they’re actually better I might just spend a few gems. We’ll wait and see
You are sure? Since i used my MF gear on Forge i got my precursor and alot better results (exotics) when i gambled for my Sunrise.
We’re all sure. The devs stated a while ago that MF only applies to monster drops. Doesn’t affect chests, forge, or anything else.
And as to your question, there’s nothing atm that affects what the forge spits out.
People have asked this before and I doubt we’ll get an answer until the release of ascended weapons is planned/imminent. Until they start setting the system up, I doubt they even know if it’d be possible.
Sylvari’s live connection to the Pale Tree will also bring most of the entire race back home to defend it, so by pure manpower they’d probably win.
Divinity’s reach also has the elite Shining Blade at their disposal.
Hoelbrak is a city filled with warriors. Very few civilian-type people exist, so although I think they might struggle more than the others due to their lack of cohesion (“Norn don’t have armies”), they’d still come out victorious.
