Mindlessly whacking my way through some Skritt community last night, I was struck by a sudden and overwhelming repugnance at the wanton fury inflicted on a race so lost and frail in the world.

As one little female cried, ‘More come, yes’ , weak with courage and fear, and another died with a plaintive ’No~ ’ , I was overcome with doubts and questions.

Whether it be wailing in death or calling for help, their voices, are infused with a confronting combination of fear, courage and pathos that deserves more admiration and fellowship than contempt and death.

In some ways, it feels like beating up the little guy with glasses in the playground who stood up to the bullies.

It isn’t right.

Raids are coming to GW2!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Exxcalibur.6203

‘The dichotomies of raiding’

Raiding translates to:

(-)

Horrendous time sinks
Two tier player culture of ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’
Elitism
Divisive power structures and player politics within guilds
A narky culture of self obsessed gamers

(+)
Greater player commitment
Time sinks
Player collusion within existing guilds and a deeper more mutually dependent guild culture

As a player with numerous real life commitments, who is not in need of a game to replace the vacuity of my life, I have no need for time sinks. But I can’t imagine players like me dominate the game.

For me, raids are the worst of WoW, so take from that what you will.

However, more Raids’/events like the Marionette would be great.

One thing I will never understand EVER is why people feel so stressed, angered and aggressive towards anyone tagging up…don’t get me wrong, I tag up only when I must and extremely rarely, but personally, I don’t really see a problem if there are even 200000 tags around me. -except in WvW-
Thus, I can’t help but think that the hate comes from jealousy.

Jealousy? Most people who played this game any decent amount of time could probably have afforded the 100 gold to buy it before the patch, as most of them did. I could have bought it but I am no leader and won’t ever wear it and I’m a very casual player. Kudos to you for not wearing yours unless your commanding though!
I don’t see a ton of rage over it in general.. just the request to be able to turn them off or turn off individuals tags that aren’t leading anything. Its a good system to have commanders but also Anet is putting too much faith in players to use it properly and clearly many they aren’t using it as it’s intended. This isn’t like a flashy legendary that you spend thousands of gold/ and or hours/ or both getting that should be flashy. It’s a bold colorful non-asthetically pleasing graphic that you can see everywhere on your map and on your screen anytime you’re around a lot of people, it takes a lot away from the art of the game.
That’s fine if it doesnt bother you personally, but you can’t just dismiss the reasons why it bothers other people and try to argue that everyone should be able to run around with commander tags. Defeats the purpose of it doesnt it if everyone did that? There’s reasons why most don’t.. and the ones who do let me turn them off.

Well said.

TP: Default to highest buyer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Exxcalibur.6203

Exxcalibur.6203

Default to highest buyer is what it was for years.

Many people just sell their junk, rather than matching lowest selling price. Matching lowest sell price is usually only done for more expensive items.

Perhaps more important than the convenience of selling junk are the economic implications.

Selling to lowest buyer keeps prices down. Matching, universally, to the lowest seller, gradually inflates the economy over time.

It is a wise decision by the reserve bank of ANet to revert back to tradition.

Why remove TP in starter zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Exxcalibur.6203

Exxcalibur.6203

As a regular slot buyer and alt roller, I am confused at the change.

The BEST discovery I made in for new avatars was that I could swap the rubbish weapon choice I had been given by purchasing an alternative at the TP immediately after completing the starter quest.

I cannot understand why this was taken away, even fro new players.

When I first purchased and played GW2 on release, I tweaked up a ranger, thought the
1-h axe skills were incredibly lame, and didnt play for months. Had I known about options, then…well…who knows…

Seems silly, arbitrary and antithetical to the ethos of the game when it was released.

Selling is incredibly counter intuitive.

The default setting are quantity 1/10 , for example, and ‘match lowest sellers price’ .

These are both wrong and should sell 10/10 default and ‘sell to highest offer’ as before.

If you click on the ’sell to highest offer ’ AFTER you hit the quantity scroll bar, it resets!!

New player experince is truly a magnificent creation. And it doesn’t even cover the downscaling issues, the level up stats upgrades that unbalance the levelling experience and the personal story coming in batches and the fact they restructered chapter 7 and 8 of the story to not make sense any more.

I watched the video and it was very amusing.

Anet needs to go away, have a cup of tea, and cup back with a new idea. I can’t believe how much they ruined the low level areas, killing map completion and making skill challenges completely useless.

Well played, Anet.

I absolutely hate gated skills and restriction of game elements, such as skill sets and barriers. (imagine the boredom of grinding a new engineer now!)

It is like being treated like a naughty child causes me no end of irritation. Wow did it with MoP and I left the game and never returned.

One of the more pleasing aspects of the game, was being able to engage with character creation, and diverse elements of the game, on an equal footing with others , irrespective of level.

The narrow screen of the TP is also ridiculous. Working in management< I am aware of how stupid people have the capacity to make stupid decision that negatively affect others, because they lack pragmatism insight and emapthy. Anet appears guilty of all these things.

This splurge of restrictions offends me in every way possible.

Perhaps Destiny calls.

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Exxcalibur.6203

Exxcalibur.6203

Perhaps we can get at tutorial about entering water, as new players might be discouraged to find they are swimming and not walking…or a tutorial about trees to help people avoid walking into them. It might be something like, ‘Trees are hard and will hurt your face. Use the mouse to avoid these stationary objects.’

Or perhaps a tutorial to help players understand that weapons have different skills, as picking up a long bow and finding you cant smash it in someone’s face is discouraging.

Or perhaps a tutorial helping new players deal with ‘night time’ , directing us to a heightened awareness of time in order to avoid confusion and alarm.

This might lead to a gender tutorial informing us about physical gender differences, as it can be alarming to make a female character and find, well, gender differences.

All a bit traumatizing really…need a break.

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Exxcalibur.6203

Exxcalibur.6203

Agreed with everyone else.

It’s not frightening in the same sense as a horror movie or walking down a dark street alone at night. But the fact that you’re dying and then suddenly all your skills change and your health is dropping whether you’re being attacked or not adds another layer of confusion to an already stressful situation.

It’s a bit like if you’re lost in an airport, worried you’ll miss your flight and then a complete stranger comes up to you and starts demanding to know why you chose the bag you’re carrying, where you got it and if you bought it for this trip specifically. It’s something unexpected and strange which you probably could cope with on it’s own, but you’re already stressed and don’t need this extra weirdness on top of everything else. (Maybe not the best example but a true story and the first one that came to mind.)

I’m not sure how moving it back a few levels is supposed to help because you still won’t have a chance to learn what the skills do except by sacrificing yourself to read and experiment with them. But I suppose the idea is that new players will be more familiar with the rest of the game by then so it spreads the confusion out and makes it easier to deal with.

Spreads the confusion? Like being lost in an airport? Hahahaha! Everything that is wrong with the world, right there.

No, it is not like being lost in an airport at all.

You are in a game, there are 4 buttons, you press on…or don’t.

No big deal.

Tbh, downed state is what kept me playing past level 2. I was afk and bored and suddenly 4 buttons appeared.. what now, I thought? I pressed one and threw things. The enemy died I rose from the dead, newly empowered, revitalized and excited by this new mechanic…

Thus renewed, I contributed to charity, invented Facebook and become a hero to millions of starving children.

Thank you, downed state < level 5!
