Zarazakzr, you are as right as your name is difficult to type! As it stands the losing players are being given rewards (karma/xp bonuses) and the winning players are being given a crutch (orb bonuses)! Ludicrous!
How’s it going to be an even fight without you! WvW isn’t a sideliner’s game type. You have to get in there and get things done!

Just kidding :P I don’t think there’s any hard and fast answer to this, it all depends on how you want to play. I’m currently 0/0/10/10/10 and play a defensive-medic sort of guy with the healing power and minor traits in Tactics.
I’ve been playing a sort of Warrior-medic role in WvW and it is very exciting! Running into an enemy AoE ring to start rez’ing a downed teammate, pulling mad aggro, and both of you dodge-rolling for your lives, surviving by the skin of your teeth!
I’m not too bothered. I trust they’re prioritizing things as best they can, and I have no problems enjoying my Warrior day to day, so I’ll just wait and see. I was kinda bummed too though.

I just want to point out that if you plan on healing other people, healing is totally worth it because it effects both incoming and outgoing heals. I spec heal for WvW and it helps, though I have little dungeon experience.
WvW is a blast. As Gavoll said, underdog is where it’s at! I’ve had a ton of great experiences where some random player rallied us out of a mindless grind of death and started a rampage of victories across the map. The only thing I don’t like is the hopelessness or negativity on the chat. No one to follow? Step up and lead!

Like Slasher said, we seem to be designed to trigger combos, but not to set them up.
We don’t prepare the battlefield, we just wreck everything within it.
Which map to enter really depends on your World. There could be tons of strategy going on where you’ve got guys putting pressure on one map to get one server to ease up on another. But if you just want to hop in and go at it I’d pick the Borderlands of whoever is winning.

sPvP is like a sport, WvW is like a war. Not all soldiers are equal, and they don’t have to be. I haven’t noticed any issues with this.
There are several spread around the world. The first one that comes to my mind is in Lion’s Arch, just south of the Mystic Forge. Look for a book on your map.
I love WvW. There’s nothing like joining the battle when you’ve got nothing. Two hours, countless battles, 3 supply camps, 2 towers, and a little war-roleplaying later we’ve put the enemy on their heels and have our guild’s banners flying from a tower.
It’s amazingly fun to me. The only rewards I even care about are Badges of Honor, so I can plug those right back into the war effort!

Sure-Footed: seems to effect Frenzy (~5 seconds) and Berserker Stance (10 seconds), but not Endure Pain (4 seconds).
Shield Stance: when you use it, the symbol that shows your Shield Stance boon states the wrong number of seconds left on it (starts down from 6, only lasts 3).
Dolyak Signet: appears to increase effective Toughness by 8, Armor by 38 (for my level 31 character at least) based on viewing the Hero panel. Testing getting hit with it on and off was inconclusive for me. It seemed like there was a slight difference, but it wasn’t very noticeable.
Do you happen to have Melee Attack Assist enabled/disabled from Options?
How do you check the precise range increment?

Server alliances are fine, as long as they organically collapse after the bigger threat has been destroyed. If the 2 servers stay buddy buddy after A#1 is taken down, the alliance will make WvW not fun for the World who was dethroned.
I think this is the sort of issue that can only be worked out by explaining things to people. Unfortunately, it’s not often a very rewarding experience.

I’m with you! I’d also like to see something like this:
Parties of 5 form up. Party leader joins a Squad. Squads are made up of Party Leaders (this would entail being in 2 “parties” at once). Squad leader joins Command. Commander leads Squads, Squad leaders lead Parties, Party leader leads individuals.
It probably doesn’t have to be that complex, but it’s essentially what I want.
5 person parties isn’t enough. We need intermediary groups.
We definitely need an option between “Group of 5 doods” and “Server Army”.
I don’t even pay attention to the rewards, I just want to fight the good fight!
Like Ruok said, it all depends on your server. If you’re meat-grinding (regardless of why) it becomes very disheartening to pay to repair your armor time and again.
I think there should be a cost to armor repair, it’s good that you can’t just keep running out fully equipped after you die a lot. However, I think a change needs to take place. I like the suggestion of option costs like paying with Karma.

I’d like to discuss defensive warrior archtypes with you here and to bounce my ideas off of someone other than my cat.
Here’s my current build:

I like this set up in WvW a lot because I can hold my own in skirmishes but also help rally a downed ally in a pinch.
My usual tactics tend toward using my bow’s Pin Down and AoEs until the enemies break our perimeter, then swap out to my Axe and Shield for melee combat. Shield Stance is amazing when I time it right and turn my enemy’s powerful attack into a dud, but it makes me cry if I time it wrong! Same really goes for Shield Bash.
Dolyak Signet and Endure Pain are amazing for me so far, paired with the Tactics minor trait Determined Revival and Defense Major Turtle’s Defense. It allows me to run to a downed player under sustained enemy fire and make an attempt at revival. It’s probably the most exciting thing I do in WvW! Run up to a fallen comrade who is inside of at least three red circles of bad kitten with Shield Stance, start reviving him, HP dropping, he’s almost up, 500 HP, pop Endure Pain (I wish Sure-Footed was working…), we both get up and evade for our lives!
I’m only level 29 right now, but I plan on sticking to my field medic sort of build. I want to max Defense trait line for sure, and put a lot of points into Tactics. I may get some Banner traits once I hit my elite skill and go for Banner of War too.
So, how do you defend yourself?
I have exactly the same issues you’ve mentioned! Must be a bug.
On this topic, I’m also wondering if Shield Stance is supposed to be effected by Sure-Footed as well? The skill’s name is a bit misleading.
