The goal is to catch the thief once. After that, you get to dictate how the fight happens, and that’s a disaster for a glass cannon.

This. Look, I can’t really see how HS is a problem when used on someone at full health. He won’t do enough damage with the fist 3/4 HS unless you run a glass canon build yourself. I don’t see how you can complain considering other skills from other classes can make you wither in your glass canon pants in about the same amount of time. I agree that if the thief in question runs a glasscanon build, those initial 3/4 HS will hit some more too but you won’t get killed by those. Remember, HS does not give evade, why aren’t you attacking him? Keep you CCs/rolls in case you went down to 50% or below 35% HP

They already nerfed the damage once, and everyone stopped QQing for quite a while. How is it that everyone that stopped then didn’t say anything anymore, and new people continue with this stuff?

There’s nothing more funnier than HBing a HS spammer, really. “Oh I’m so bored I think I’ll just use a Hundred Blades while you start your leap. Oh did you just jump into my flurry? Oh my, how reckless of you, silly!”

Give Rogues a Perma-steath ability on a mid duration recharge (Maybe 60 seconds) that only works in open world settings.

Even the open-world content has balance requirements. If you allow perma-stealth, then Thieves could easily harvest valuable resources (e.g. Omnomberries, Orichalcum, Passiflora) without being slowed by the need to fight or evade the mobs guarding those nodes. If properly traited (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fleet_Shadow), then they would permanently benefit from the fastest movement speed in the game, providing a solid advantage in exploration (e.g. map completion, scavenger hunt). They would also have an advantage in several Jumping Puzzles (such as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wall_Breach_Blitz), since they could simply ignore enemies who are supposed to pose a challenge to players.

I already do this though. It’s just that I’m not stealthed 100% of the time. I just use it as an aggro looser (Shadow Refuge gives more than enough time to harvest a node without being bothered by mobs).

The general playerbase of MMOs has been deterioting ever since MMOs (or most of them) began to base their games on the core principle of farming for gear in an instanced dungeon, not to mention the solofication of the world / questing.

People used to be far more helpful, far more tolerant, because MMORPGs used to have mechanisms in that encouraged that such as public dungeons where you had to compete against / cooperate with other groups to actually complete (yes I know it is shocking you actually encounter more than 5/10/15 players in a Massively Multiplayer game), which you actually had to travel to and in the case of PvP games / servers had to fight off opposing players whilst trying to complete the dungeon. (Yes this was when PvE was actually a challenge)

Most MMORPGs today are nothing of the sort, they are merely glorified co-ops which edge ever closer to the likes of Diablo where farming loot with little challenge is all that matters, hence situations such as the OP describes are more and more common.

I’ve been waiting and waiting for a lot of time now. I haven’t found 1 newish mmorpg with those elements.
I love non instanced/non party instanced dungeons, where you had to always be careful of PKers hiding in a corner. Or when you had to be really careful when a different party was incoming, dragging 10+ mobs. A bad use of a skill could cause your party to aggro the said 10 mobs and die miserably . Non to mention full pvp everywhere.
I also miss completely non instanced worlds, with the confusion it resulted in chat.
I guess some things where left out, and maybe we’ll never get them back. (I’m keeping my eyes open for some incoming games like ArchAge and the like)

Robert I have a serious question.
Are you guys planning to change the number of ecto required for a backpack infusion?
I’m talking about the Quivers and Tomes. 250 ecto jut to get it infused, isn’t it a tad too much?
Also if you think this would be unfair for the ones using the fractal backpiece, why not lower the requirements for that one too, while keeping the 250 ectos just for the glow as an extra.
250 ectos is too much for 5 agony.

There actually is a small light, a small 1 second flash to be exact. Alas , if I am in a dungeon, all the other particle effects get my attention.

I too agree that this should be included, a stronger sound and/or a permanent weak flash could do the work

I’ll just say one last thing to answer to you, since so far you were the only one that answered without bashing.

First, they did ban people yes, but in the mean time a great lot of money and items were introduced in the market.

The Godskull exploit was: craft some Godskull rare GSs ( I think other weapons worked too) throw them in the mystic force, the recipe was broken and have a very, very high chance to give a precursor. They didn’t do anything about it, except fix it after way too much time.

In the mean time I remembered quite a few that show how much prior better and longer testing is important. I’ll just list one: fractals. First they released it half finished where agony crap with slightly better stats where available only there ( and they already said it was a mistake)
The the DC problems appeared where you were unable to finish a run if you were disconnected (I personally lost a good amount of time , when people dced left and right).
They come along and say, it’ll be released when ready, then how is it that this was implemented when it was obviously not ready?
And when did they fix it? 2 months later.
Another thing, I’m coming from a great deal of other MMOS (I don’t know why people are telling me that MMOs aren’t for me, considering I’ve been playing them, long before some of you were born). In all these MMOS, a rollback was never a problem. Regarding the QQ about an eventual rollback, the company would state what was it for (ie. some people that found an exploit became very rich, possibly causing a really big inflation in prices later on (and it’s exactly what’s happening now) – just an example.
I for one, would be extremely happy if I had to loose just a few levels and a few drops, for the future of a game.

And last thing, I know they are human, and humans make mistakes, but is it possible that a whole company makes mistakes? (and not just one, but quite a few?).

Ok, everyone managed to convince me that getting frustrated (even if just a tad bit) over a laurel is stupid, and made me look stupid.

But I’m still angry about the decision to roll the patch 3 hours sooner, just before the normal daily reset. Consider this: It’s the 28th of February, you still need 5 WvW kills to get your monthly, you manage to get back 2 hours before the reset, log in and discover that they already rolled the patch for March? The situation is the same in both cases. As far as I see it, this is the result of poor planning, and it doesn’t make the company look very serious and professional.

EDIT: And to end it. Moral of the story? ANet, wake up! I want you to be more professional in some cases. You’re a company for chrissake, start acting like one, already. More punctuality, more open discussion, more testing, and stop it with the “small changes” not mentioned in patches.

At this point, it’s pointless to have discussion. Everyone can refuse to understand, use a sarcastic tone and troll.

It was Anet’s fault that they didn’t say that the patch would have also involved a daily reset.

It’s a patch we all knew was going to change how dailies work, if you didn’t use that information to conclude that the handling of the dailies for that day would probably be affected, that’s on you.

When I logged in AFTER the patch, I immediately checked on my daily just to be sure. You know what I found? I found that my kill variety and my daily events were done, even if there was a reset (because of the patch).
What would you think of that?
I’ll tell you what I thought: “Nah it would be inconsiderate and strange for ANet to reset the daily 3 hours before the normal reset, also considering some of the requirements for my daily are already done, it must be an UI bug” and I logged off and went to bed, because I had an exam the next day.

The funny thing is that if they decided to actually ad 10 laurels for the January monthly. The situation would have been the opposite, and I bet every single White Knight in this thread would shush. “But, but I already did my monthly, what can I do now? Unfair unfair!!!111one”

No, I won’t stop playing this game because it’s the successor of one of the best games I ever experimented in my teens. (There’s a thing called post history for a forum member here, why don’t you check on people before starting bashing and calling a hater)

I complain because I want to make it better.
I used to defend this game with all my heart on every forum I ever found.
I am not bothered by the fact that I missed one laurel. I am bothered by the way Anet implements stuff without saying anything and without testing.
- Dyes becoming account bound – check
- Exotic weapons worth almost 0 Karma? – check (no rollback and a few, too little bans)
- Godskull exploit? – check (no rollback)
- Winter exploit? – check (no rollback, but some bans)

The thing most annoying, and the main reason I don’t feel like letting it go is that it’s not the first time that Anet screws up because nobody thought about stuff in advance.

If you’re that annoyed over 1 laurel, you need to stop playing MMOs. Anet probably did think this through, decided to make the laurel available for 3 hours knowing that a part of their userbase wouldn’t get it, and thought : “Meh who cares it’s just 1 laurel”.

I wasn’t intending to say anything more on this topic, but people seem to be comparing one time events with daily (repeatable) achievements. I’m really not following this train of thought at all. A one time event is something you can do/or not do once. When it’s finished you will never be able to do it, or gain the rewards from it, again.

The daily that was missed by some (myself included) can be done again, the very next day, and you will be able to get the exact same reward. If you missed out on something unique that you cannot get again I would understand this thread more, but it’s not, it’s a reward you can get every day.

I am seriously not that bothered that I wasn’t able to get 1 laurel.

There’s nothing to argue about here. It was Anet’s fault that they didn’t say that the patch would have also involved a daily reset.
OR they could have waited and push the patch a few minutes prior the scheduled reset.

I am sorry but my time zone always allows me to complete 2 dailies in one day, which I did 3 total at the day of the patch, one before and one after the patch and another right after reset, as it always resets at 4 P.M. for me. If you still think it’s Anet’s fault, then maybe you should take this to the suggestion forum and tell them to make it better, otherwise I see nothing wrong here.

Ok, then I’ll explain to you too what happened in my case and in many others’ cases, since it’s clear that people don’t read the pages before and just skip to the last page and comment on that.

I am GMT+1. My dailies, as well as all the other GMT+1 people’s dailies reset at 1AM in the morning, every day at the same hour.

ANet added the patch at 10PM, 3 hours before the reset, without telling us that the patch also included a daily reset.
What happened was that, we had two daily resets, one at 10PM (because of the patch) and one (and the normal one) 3 hours later at 1AM (when it was supposed to be)
People that were there, right after the patch did one set of dailies in the 3 hours. And then at 1AM (normal reset) they did another daily.

So to make it short. On the 28th and before the daily normal reset that happened at 1AM there was another reset prior to the normal one. Which means, people got 2 daily rewards for the 28th (and one of the rewards also included the new laurel) while other that didn’t know about this second reset didn’t get it and now are 1 laurel short.

When I logged on after the patch, I noticed that my daily quest reset, but since Anet didn’t say anything about it,and since I already did my daily for the 28th, I thought it was just a UI bug and didn’t actually try to do it because I supposed, that it wasn’t possible that the daily would reset before time

Point is:

Give 1 laurel to everyone that didn’t do the “extra daily” that day. Or better yet, cancel them and make it start from the 1st of February.
and next time ANet pay more attention to what you are doing

I feel as though I have been legitimately handicapped by having missed a misimplemented daily.

It’s just one day.

Maybe it’s just one day for you, but for others that don’t like to skip dailies that’s one day lost. I wish people would stop forcing own view on others. It’s like saying you don’t have to eat tomatoes because I don’t like them.

wasn’t expecting that sort of a reset… there was no warning, so I had no idea that it was happening

Dailies reset every single day at the exact same time, including the day of patch.
The day the patch hit, the daily rest 3 hours PRIOR the schedule. Stop giving out false info.

Not telling us that this would happen is even worse than letting it happen in the first place.

Those are 25 points I can never get back.

They are converting old achievements to the “new system”. Some of your A-points will just go poof, how do you feel about that?

Learn to dodge and CoE is just fine. People shouldn’t have been dying in the first place. Hopefully after a while people that can’t dodge will stop running CoE and make them more enjoyable for the rest of us.

I personally hope that the people that don’t know how to dodge will die and reset until they’ll learn.

Just keep trying! When I first ran CoE, I usually spent 1 gold on repair for about a week before I finally learned how to dodge properly/switched to melee.

Why don’t you people try and run the dungeons how they are right now for a while, and you’ll see that in the next patch, they’ll nerf (or balance, if you want to put it that way) stuff in dungeons.

I am not an elitist, honest, I too like you guys screw up a dodge or two from time to time, and I’m sure even the elitists use the WP in the dungeons from time to time. The fact is, they found a challenge and they liked it, while the others found a challenge and stopped trying.
What I see here are people similar to those that want to restart the Swamp fractal after just 2 tries.

Honestly out of the people that complained, how many of you actually tried to run some dungeons after the patch? I’m not talking about 1 or 2 tries… I’m talking about really trying.

I for one still have many dungeons to try out after the patch, and I will because I wanna see how things are.
And I’m excited for when the silver trash mobs will get the nerf hammer.

NickChabby and many more of us who are complaing DID TRY several dungeons before complaining.

I did try it, all 3 paths, and I think Alpha is even easier now with his hp nerf.
But it’s also true that I have a complete armor set and pistols from that dungeon, because I loved/love it so much.

Did your party know how to deal with him? If not you could have thought them.
-ALL go melee and hug the boss
-on path 2 and 3 count 1 2 and dodge when the circles of doom appear.
-kill the crystals immediately.
-repeat.

If someone goes down, all stop attacking and ress.

EDIT: I have to admit thought that killing the destroyer was a bit of a pain because 2 people kept falling in the lava, but that’s hardly a problem since that boss doesn’t reset, and you have to get out of combat at some point to man the lasers.

I understand that sometimes stuff won’t work properly. But what I want to know is why did we have 2 dailys in a day. Now, usually people won’t complain for having the opportunity to get 2 jugs some silver and 2 coins in the same day. But, why did you have to put it up so close to the reset?
Actually I think it would have been better if the daily didn’t reset with the patch, just implement it from tomorrow, like you planned to do with monthlies.

Furthermore, the daily didn’t actually reset either…. I finished my daily a few hours ago, and when I logged in after the patch so see what’s up (just a quick glance around because I was ready to go to bed), I found that I already had 5/5 events done, and the 13 kill variety done, but the other two reseted. What I did was….. log off. I thought the UI bugged up because, a normal rational person would never think that you’d give the opportunity to run a DAILY TWICE, just 1hour before the “normal” reset

Chill is the only thing that works on that one, you can’t stun him, daze him, (I was actually able to immobilize him once by a fluke, still not sure how it happened because the next time I tried the same thing and it didn’t work and I gave up after 4 tries, and no he had no more defiant stacks on), and that’s the one I always think about when I think OP aboms. You’re fighting just him after a quick cleanup of the trash and it’s still a ridiculous fight. If you run out of chill or someone has no energy to dodge, it’s game over. Lots of parts of that dungeon though is way overtuned, so hopefully soon they rework it.

Stun and daze only work for 1/10 of a second it’s true but, it’s more than enough if you time it when he’s about to hit a player. As a thief I usually like time my pistols’ 4th skill. Stops it from building up speed that quick.

Honestly, I’ve done that dungeon so many times (I wanted the dungeon skin armor and weapons) that I have no problems with any of the stuff in there. And while most of the time at least 1 other party member was a regular in my CoE group, the rest were all PuGs, and we never really had a problem with that abomination.

Tl:Dr. I think, that encounter works as intended, and imho it’s perfectly doable with pugs.

EDIT: I can’t say the same thing for other abominations in the world because I can hardly remember any, in fact I can’t say I’ve encountered many (maybe a few veterans in Orr?)

He never stated that FOTM resets the DR. What he meant was that FOTM is not affected by “world DR” which means if you get hit by DR and/or get bugged the only option for good drops is FOTM.

I don’t really hate ascended gear. I only hate the fact that it could open up to more tiers of equipment. As long as we’ll only have ascended and the last legendary tier I’m fine with it. If however Anet consistently adds tiers over tiers….well lets just say I don’t know how many of the casuals are going to continue playing

Food offers benefits, alcohol doesnt (im talking in game benefits like power).

He’s not talking about benefits, his point is, if Anet is so careful to not introduce certain things that might prove offensive to a certain type of person, then why introduce alcohol? Alcohol is generally seen as a negative beverage.
I, for one, am not offended by any of the above cases.

the only time you really need agony resist is in jade maw and when it comes to other mobs you can easily dodge their agony. i used 250 ectos to upgrade to tier 2 back piece, so are you telling me that A-net should remove this? whats going to happen to people who already used 250-500 ectos to upgrade their back piece? Is Anet going to give back their 250 ectos? it wont be fair on me and so many other people who has already used this recipe.

It happens every time in mmos Turk. An example could be when they changed the reward tokens to 60 per path. I agree that the difference in money is significant (toekns vs ectos), but it’s the same process.

Only way around it is… to see if people agree that a certain thing is wrong, wait for a dev, and then decide.
I for one won’t upgrade my quiver for 250 ectos, hell it doesn’t even change the skin or anything.

Yep after the 15 page long of whining about the world drops nerf one of the devs said there’s nothing wrong with world drops, thus it has something to do with a permanent DR. I haven’t seen a yellow drop from world mobs in ages! But I got 3 rares on my guardian while exploring a lvl 50 zone yesterday (no mf gear). So at first I though it was account bound, now I’m starting to think it’s character bound. Either that or the permanent dr glitched for an hour. XD
Fractals is the only place one can get a nice supply of rares for ecto stacks. (not to mention the casual t6 drop from time to time)

Especially when the team creating the content probably has little knowledge of the game altogether.

My question would be WHY did those recipe exist the way they were? If it was such an obvious oversight, shouldn’t ANY content developper have spotted it?

How did this get through quality assurance?

Every single MMo Ive every play, have always let stuff like this slid past sometimes.

I was furious about the precursor and god skull exploit. Many of them where not punished. All these 3 cases were clear exploits, there’s nothing to say about it. Imo ANet should summon Dhuum more.

I was wondering if the majority of the people ever consider the fact that, maybe, just maybe, someone enjoys doing the jps? and maybe even the WvW kills, and maybe even fractals?

I am not a WvW person, I hardly ever do any, and lately I’ve done even less (guild became significantly smaller because of people leaving), but every month I spend that 1 or 2 hours of my CASUAL play time (which is roughly around 3 or 4 hours of playtime after dinner, and it’s not even a daily thing) and get the kills done. You already need some badges for your legendary. Why don’t you just help yourself not doing the WvW jp a few times and actually get badges from kills, it’s seriously not hard, just join a zerg.

And about everyone complaining about the 30 jps. “I already did them all and I don’t want to see them again”, well you know what? Not everyone has done them yet. I always said stuff like, I should get myself to do them someday, but I never did. Well you know what, now I really have to do them, and I’m actually happy I have to. Not to mention that quite a few new players join around Christmas and this is a way to show them that this game has other things, not just kill and kill.
Also about fractals. I am one of those that didn’t like “karka update” because of the ascension gear. But you know what, even if I don’t like the new ger tier I like that dungeon idea.

TL;DR:
I understand that there are a lot of things that aren’t ok currently in this game. And just to list a few: bugged traits and skills, broken DEs, the drops nerf (or the broken DR system, however you want to see it, and of course the general DR presence), the stupid amount of grind it requires (which is a lot bigger than any KR game I’ve ever seen) and of course the “gamble” policy Anet started.
BUT don’t start hating on EVERYTHING you don’t like about the game

It’s true! I also came across this. And I also salvaged ori ore from that item. The problem is I was on a lvl 64 Guardian in a lvl 40 zone. So I think, it’s either a bug or there’s a remote chance to get them from low lvl items too. Btw I was using the Basic kit. I think this needs a testing. I’ll use a few stacks of Master kits to try it out

Just lost another hour because I dced at the third fractal just before the Jade Maw. And now I only have roughly 40 minutes to start a new run for the daily.

More than finding a group, it’s more difficult to find one that kills everything in FoTM (or at least stuff that’s in the way). It currently has the best drops in the game. And for how much I play I like getting a few ectos and an a few t6 mats at the same time, not to mention those karma armors or normal exotics for my alts.

I have to admit, I too miss the heroes from Guild Wars 1. I wish we had them, with all their customization possibilities (it’ll be less that GW1 because of how to game is made, but it will still provide good fun).

Again, they will implement stuff without thinking too much. I wonder if they ever read the forums. There were some great suggestions made by players.
As far as I’m concerted I was one of the people that suggested the current way of things. And I have to say, I love this system for various reasons (where the most important one is that it truly gives you a feeling of progression). I understand that even though the current system is great on paper. It makes it hard for people to find parties around certain levels and it makes it hard to level up alts from scratch (and this is also a problem I’ve personally encountered). The thing is, and I admit it, the way GW2 works is not compatible with the current FoTM system. GW2 was made with the idea of people coming and going, and the fractals system goes in a complete opposite direction. And mind you, I’m not talking about the “gear treadmill” but the true problem of people remaining behind, and unable to run the dungeon if they stop for a month of two.

I think the greatest workaround for this would be to make it tiered with am interval of 5.
That way people won’t have to worry of being dragged by “lvl 4” fractal “noob” in a lvl 35 one. I mean if a guy managed to get to 30 he should be capable enough of doing a 35 one.

I for one am really happy they’ll be fixing the dc problems.

EDIT:
It seems most of you misunderstood the purpose of the change.

You are not supposed to bring a lvl 5 dude in a lvl 30 one. You’re supposed to run a lvl 15 one and while you help the noob get to higher levers, you get chunks of karma as reward.

I got one two weeks ago from a chest in Fractals (lvl 2 or 3 I think). I never got one from a monster drop ever, so I think it’s a 0.000001% drop rate. Drop rate that probably became 0.000000000001% after the famous 15’th patch. (I also noticed BL chests don’t drop that much anymore which totally confirms the bug, or the “new” drop rate, See it as you may)
