I dunno, I’m on GH server and I have never heard anyone cry out lag, and this was good because it bought fights for us.

Tbh though, Some of the scrapper is a bit extreme. Was on a worker warrior last night in wvw with 3k armour and hammer #2 from said acrapper was hitting me for around 2.5k per hit, that with the tripper leap and evade does seem a bit silly. And what’s even sadder is that they replace a thief in gank squad, seeing far more duo/tri people (scrapper rev chrono) in gank squads now. (Wvw)

Nice 1. Been practicing a lot lately, turning of AA has helped vs more compitent players and some builds. Was dueling a full melee ranger with WhAo/boon spam which was very hard but managed it.

All of the above are silly options as that dosnt teach you how to get better. Best thing to practice is using escapest absolution as your main condi clear. Shadow step/return for burst clear. I play s/d and my condi clears are infiltrations return, shadow return and the trait. Withdraw as my heal.
As for fighting each class, it’s hard to ‘tell’ you how as everyone has different play sets. Most mesmers that are condi are condi shatters. Dodge at the end of the scepter beam to remove all confusion stacks and watch out for the block as the counter attack (melee range) gives you torment. So does the aa.
Necro just stay away from reaper shroud. Get away!! Seen an aids perpex necro that used fear wall, wh #4 to inflict confusion stacks.
Not had many in counters vs warriors though I suspect their main burst comes from berserk mode sword f2. Also the torch has nasty burn.

I care not for p/x as I do not play it. But for the sake of thief I would like to see a 3 stage chain. Stage 1 and 2 are the same with bleed. 3rd could trigger ricochet.

1: 15k hp base? No thanks, thief would be in Un killable with marurder stats. With my pve/wvw gear I am sitting happerly at 16k health.
2: I would agree on the +3 iniative but not the reduction on skills.
3: why do we need a 5th utility skill?
4: thief is an active class, if you want passive play scrapper or some hint.
5: …. why not just nuke them while you’re at it. Dagger aa is already buffed through the roof, with this Change you might as well remove the other 4 weapon skills.
6: would like this too, sr back to 45 seconds would be nice but then again it would just get revealed anyway. Rof and haist are stun breakers so you need to be careful how the cd is adjusted, especially with trickster trait.
7: the new dodge traits are close to op already. In fact I predict a nerf to dash. I don’t understand why quickness activates on a dodge. As for protection on bound? That is so out of character for that dodge. Was deuling a d/p theif and his bound hit me for 4.5k alone.

10: you can out run this skill lol. I don’t think it is meant for long range even though it is 900 range. Choking gas and disabling shot could do with some love.

That’s actually close to what my current style us. T3 mask, sneak thief shoulders, strider top, rawhide gloves, prowler pants and deulist shoes. Have a pic of it on this thread just with t3 pants instead

a lot of female armour isnt that great. its hard to get a good match and when you find 1, there is clippings and armour gaps between pieces. this combo looks great but the gap between leggings and coat is a kinda bad.
also regarding T3. i think the dyes make the armour… if you pick the right dyes, it actually looks nice.

we have 1 extra dodge, and some vigor if trait for all 3 lines. scrapper and rev have more then enough evades.

I play a lot of strong hold matchs rank/unranked and i use to get teamed vs premades. the scrapper and rev reveals were only a real issue for me if i played old vanilla d/p thats (DA/SA/TRIK) if i rolled daredevil instead or even played s/d then i was under no real pressure from reveal, just the rest of their kitten nal lol.
every class needs a weakness, hell, the thief class alone counters a mesmer regardless of what the mesmer plays (condi tank might take some time) and the fact that d/p is so good, it’s weakness is that it rely a lot on stealth too.

Same reason why people hate “condi cancer” each person plays in a different way and enjoy different builds. I don’t share their fun in passive play or spam 1 skill over n over. They could say the same to me because I do not use the strongest builds out there and lose to other stuff.

this is half the reason why i play unranked more then i play ranked, simply because of s/d. i get bored of d/p win a few games, lose some… then i just go unranked and do a marathon as s/d.
but yes, d/p is and always be the best set for competitive play.

I dunno, thief has its spot, we hard counter mesmer, scrappers/Dh counter us. we can kill reapers but they pretty much can kill most other class’s. rev can kill a thief but struggles vs reaper…

Topher: how much do you use #4 on s/d ? I don’t use it a lot, but I can see its worth to keep pressure. MadVision was using it in his s/d video as well.
it’s worth using when you have “too much” initiative and you want to keep distance or you chase and you need that cripple to land further hits.
I know ‘lead attacks’ trait gives damage on initiative but your goal still should be to never be on full so no regain ticks are missed.
it’s also good for applying fist strike of b_venom.
it can proc air sigil so damage can be unexpectedly high.
it can also force a dodge.

I think toons that are half nude, aka human female t3 and other light armours should take double dmg…
In all honesty though, bs hurts enemy thives or anything with no form or protection, or armour buff. Having 10/20% armor penetration like air magic did in gw1 would help, but then that’s power creep again so it will just make things worse. It’s hard to really balance now with so much tank boons and buffs, only real way to achieve a nice back stab is if you combine it with bounty theft trait.

I managed to crit a scrapper in wvw for 1.7k using LS. Normally hit from 4.5-6k.

I can not imagine playing staff just to vault spam fun or practical. Most people know when the evade frames end on vault and then can decide how to act upon it. You can only use vault 3 times in a row too so what you ganna do after that?

I normally start of with shortbow vs most people. If its an ele I will just jump them and try to beat them up enough for them to go in earth and then steal them.
Been hocked back on s/d again so most of my fights can take its time compared to staff or d/p. Also I have disabled aa on sword so I have a better chance to use flanking strike when I need to evade rather then to just proc ls.
Sometimes I tend to let the enemy lead the fight and react on what my oponent is doing (scrappers and DH)
Other times I try to take the lead, vs mesmer or another thief I try to be as agresive as possible.

What do you define as lacking or viable when it comes to s/d. I am by no means in top teir, nor do I have the time to get to that stage, and tbh if I was I wouldn’t play a thief if it meant winning at any cost.
S/d is still decent in my eyes, it’s great for wvw roaming and dueling people in eb fight clubs, it is probably better them d/p too to gank low health people in enemy zerg with the easy 2K + port and return wich dp can’t.
I guess s/d is lacking for high end teir/turnament play wich I have read even d/p is. But it’s far more exciting and fun to play as a casual pvper/fight play prefreane.

This is what wvw is all about now, ranged fights and people hugging seige in towers although this mu has been pretty exciting for guilds that like to have a scrap like the old times.

Only if you don’t spam #1 in down state! Had a sulk at a guildy for doing that so I let him get stomped, I told many times not to do that. then he raged and logged off.
That’s the only thing that up sets me is people breaking stealth when I pop sr or blinding powder.

I agree that it takes great practice and experience to play s/d, I met a perplex condi reaper on wvw the other day and did I struggle, not because of the condis but how they were applied. He used the fear wall which I don’t recall the cast animation ( if this is 1) the daze on wh and fear on staff, I did lose but it took a good few mins. Next time I will know better perhaps beat it.
