Thank you. The nerf was bad enough and undeserved, but come on. Please don’t move our kitten skills around on the bar.
We’re supposed to be “watching the combat, not the UI” remember?
Nope, it’s just that coat. There’s a couple that do it.
Robert -
How are we supposed to report griefers? I’m curious because there have been some griefing behaviors before, but there’s no “griefing” option in the report menu.
How would you know their spec and gear, out of curiosity?
I love it, it’s one of my favorite things about Charr!
Please don’t take anything away that makes them more bestial and unique and less like big, hairy humans!!
Feycat: Look into the Pit Fighter lv70ish chest, it’s probably as close as you can get.
Yeah, that would be great, but both my charr are medium-wearers.
Basically, I’m having to put both of them in Vigil armor since it’s sleeveless and has tags for the skirt instead of a solid skirt, so my tail can stick through without clipping.
I won’t sign the petition, but I do agree that Anet seriously needs to take a look at fixing Sylvari and Charr armor to make it better match their culture. They do not need to be wearing long-sleeved human rags designed for a race that doesn’t fit them at all.
Go back to your own concept armor, Anet! Please!
All these people saying “you can’t talk while playing” and “no one makes friends in this game” etc when people in this very thread have proven the exact opposite boggles me.
Clearly, the problem isn’t with the game. The problem is with you. Open up and start talking to people if you want to be talked to. Not everyone will respond, but someone will. Take the first step… stop being so “anti-social” while complaining everyone around you is antisocial :P
Because it’s one of the most aggravating features of an MMO?
My 400 hours on 7 characters definitely says yes
I will throw my hat in this ring.
This game makes me sick. It’s not an all-the-time thing, but caves, jumping puzzles, and small indoor spaces (especially if I’m on my Charr or Norns) is frankly awful. And once you start feeling dizzy and sick, it doesn’t just instantly vanish when you get back out in the open.
The FOV is a definite problem. The fact the camera is in-game and clips with things is another huge issue. The camera gets “caught” on things and can jump up and down or jam itself into the character. Once that happens, it’s instant seasickness.
Did the “Kill Zhaitan” instance last night. That fight on the narrow deck between cannons with all the undead with knockback? Whose idea was THAT? I was literally heaving by the time we finished that fight, it was immensely horrible.
Please, open up the FOV, give us some slider options, and do something about the sticky camera, not just “camera smoothing.”
All you have to do to take the waypoint from Lion’s Arch to the Priory. It’s actually pretty close across the zone line, and it’s like 2s.
This, PLEASE.
This is extremely aggravating, especially if one is an RPer.
“Look, here’s my pet, who’s been with me forever (according to my character creation) …. Juvenile Jungle Stalker!” :-/
And to the above, punishment? Not really. There are still viable ways to give people things. Just because YOU don’t the thought of not being able to send those few crafting supplies to your guildie for free without going to the bank, doesn’t mean it’s an overall punishment. If you’re sending people stuff in the mail to sell it, there’s a trading post for that.
You seem to think that DR is a punishment on legitimate players to stop goldsellers.
How is making me pay for sending crafting mats to my friend NOT punishing me to stop goldsellers? Besides being somewhat laughable, since pretty much every other MMO does that and they all still have goldsellers.
Auldwolf, I usually love your posts, but that’s completely ridiculous.
I’ve never ever seen anything even close to that. Harsh punishment for dying? In this game? REALLY? At most, at level 80, it costs you 2-3 silver to hit a waypoint and a silver for death. 4 silver is HARSH? More harsh than running back from the spirit healer to recover your body, still lying in the middle of the mobs where you died or being camped by the other faction? More harsh than losing your items (Minecraft,) XP debt (COH,) losing levels (FF) etc?
This game has the LEAST harsh death penalty of any MMO I’ve ever played, ever.
Also, no one else’s “silly mistake” has ever gotten me killed. When I get killed, it’s either because I overreached (I like to get in melee and throw AOEs around… and then I get retaliated >.>) or because some jerk ran through the middle of my combat while training a bunch of mobs and they all aggro to me. Either way, that’s not someone’s silly mistake killing me – either it’s my own fault, or someone’s being a kitten.
There’s really really nothing hardcore about this game. And that’s why I love it. Heck, last night we did the Arah instance at the end of the story quest, me and four guildies who’d never done it, fresh 80s all in yellow or green gear. And we never wiped. 2 of us died and had to waypoint a couple times. Mostly, we reacted to people being downed and got them back up.
I socialize in this game constantly. Mostly in /say and in character. I’ve met some fantastic RPers that way – in fact, met the RPers who’ve become the guild I’m happiest to be in out of all the RP guilds in all the games I’ve ever joined. I’m not interested in grouping with random strangers who I do not know and have not talked to first. If you RP at me, I will RP back at you. Sometimes that leads to longer-term association, or grouping – sometimes not.
Last night in Lornar’s Pass while fighting steam creatures, my partner and I exchanged some banter with a Charr at the event, in /say. Later, we met him in a dredge tunnel and had some chatter about dredge tech. This was all in /say, while fighting, while doing the event. We were not grouped and did not group. Afterwards, we went our separate ways – but I for one had a big smile on my face.
It’s not antisocial not to group in a game where “grouping” benefits from other games are automatically applied here. If you want to be social – then open up and socialize. Having people’s portraits on the left side of your screen doesn’t mean you’re socializing with them.
I’ll also second or third or whatever the notion of finding a good guild. A guild full of like-minded people is a pool you can dip from whenever you like to socialize and often to group as well.
What’s to stop the gold buyers and sellers from temporarily joining a guild, using the guild bank to xfer funds, then breaking the guild?
Or using a guild bank to strip a hacked account?
This will be just one more instance of punishing the rest of the playerbase in order to try and stop the farmers.
It’s been posted in many places that hearts are not the actual meat and potatoes of the leveling experience. They’re there to give you a little boost, available karma gear, and more importantly, lead you to the Dynamic Events happening on the map – which is where the bulk of the xp is.
The problem is put in stark terms when the Dynamic Events begin to break. This weekend, my partner and I played 2 of our pairs who were at/near 30. They finished their personal story quest to 40, while questing in one of two zones – Lornar’s Pass for one pair, and Gendarran Fields for the other. Both of them were pulling teeth to level, the whole time. My mesmer only made it from 27 to 33, and my Guardian from 30 to 36. We saw very few DEs that were actually running in these two zones, and actually had trouble in a few cases getting our daily 5 events before bed.
Post-patch/reset, we played a different pair of level 30 characters, in Fields of Ruin. The difference was night and day. We were 40 by the end of the night. There were DEs running EVERYWHERE. Heck, we participated in 2 or 3 of them before we even got out of Ebonhawke!
This serves to highlight the very big deal that bugged DEs are to the playerbase. When you built a game where people receive the bulk of their leveling xp from these events, you CANNOT allow them to be bugged out and remain bugged out for days and weeks! People have varient playtimes, and one of the selling points of the game is that you can log on whenever you want, play a few hours, and get stuff done. This isn’t really the case when the Dynamic Events are broken. Completely exploring Lornar’s Pass, which means doing every heart, all our personal story quests (x2 because we joined 2 different Orders) and fighting all the mobs we came across gave us half the xp we would have gotten if the DEs in that zone had been running properly.
I end up tanking MUCH more often on my dagger ele than I do on either my warrior or my guardian. Kiting for the win!
Yeah, Charr really really need more sleeveless/skirtless armor models. Just gimme a couple of leather straps and I’d be happy – why does Pit Fighter have to be heavy?
I’ve been playing low-level areas all weekend (Caledon, Brisban, Kessex, Gendarran Fields) – on my seventh alt.
I have had to ELBOW people out of my way. It’s not even funny how crowded the place still is.
Dying? Not so much.
I really love the leather armor. There have been many times on my heavy or light wearers that I’ve dressingroomed the medium karma armor and went “oh man, I wanna wear THAT!”
Heavy armor is completely bland and generic until you get into the 50s
That being said, I REALLY wish they’d paid some attention to the bodymesh of the Charr when making their armor. The medium armor looks TERRIBLE on charr for the most part.
Thank you for describing exactly why I avoid the professions forums at all costs, despite the possibly useful threads therein….
I really hope they don’t release it as JUST town clothes. If they want to sell me an armor skin for it, well, okay. But I desperately want some less human-looking more open-chest/sleeveless options for my charr :-/
Don’t know if this is true on other servers, but on Tarnished Coast, Gendarran Fields is bugged out for grouping. When we get too far apart, the map dots/portraits disappear, we can’t see each other’s heart progress, etc.
That wouldn’t be a big deal – there’s other zones – but it’s also giving us the bug where we can’t enter one another’s instances. That’s essentially put the brakes on several of our characters’ personal stories, which we do in duos.
I’ve wondered this, too..
Why not an armor system that works like the weapon skills? e.g. You can choose light, medium, or heavy, but that comes with different benefits and penalties, based on class. Or something more interesting and fitting to GW2 like that, rather than just a tired old armor trinity system.
That’s certainly what I was thinking, yes.
And I have no trouble believing that many people would go full plate. But if there were speed and dodging penalties to wearing plate, in a game with no mounts? I think people would at least consider balancing their suits a bit.
On the other hand… so what if people wore all plate? Who cares? That would be people’s choices to make.
This game is still highly populated. I was playing in Caledon Forest and starting Brisban on my baby Warrior and I was wading through people.
You have to take into account the hours you’re playing, the areas you’re playing, the server you’re on… and the fact that a lot of people are on a break right now playing MoP. People don’t “quit” GW2. They can come back any times, and leave when something else catches their eye for a bit.
The sky is not falling.
So, this game dispenses with the Holy Trinity of Tank/DPS/Healing. Every class has a spec that can support, dps, or tank with some level of success. I’ve tanked many a champion on my elementalist with a combination of slows and dodges and jump-forward powers.
So, that being the case… WHY do we still have a Trinity of armor weights?
I understand that melee is supposed to have much higher damage numbers than ranged, simply because of the safety factor involved. But why do only warriors and guardians benefit from higher armor numbers in melee?
I play a dagger elementalist, a 2-sword mesmer, a greatsword ranger. I’m in melee with them as often as I am with my warrior and guardian. And yet, I need to be much, much more mobile and careful doing so, and I am not rewarded with the kind of damage numbers the heavies get, either.
If the game is designed so that NO ONE can tank and spank, NO ONE is built to simply stand in melee and take hits, and every class can choose to melee or ranged… why don’t we have a choice of what armor we want to wear on our characters? Perhaps there could be an endurance reward for light armor and an endurance penalty for heavy, and the more pieces of heavy you wear the less dodges you get.
It makes no sense to penalize light armor wearers in damage for staying back out of melee, when they have no option to get a little more protection if they want to wade in there.
Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of
bump Please, seriously. No one knows?
I’m really glad they do NOT stand straight. I love having a non-human silhouette on a character for once. I don’t want to just play a human in a fursuit :-/
That being said, they really needed to build specific meshes and skins for the charr armor. They shouldn’t be wearing all that human-y crap.
Gladiator set doesn’t have the full open chest like that though
Does anyone know a link or a list that translates the names of the armor in the PvP locker to the actual names of the sets, where they are available?
It’s driving me crazy. The Duelist set is listed as “Leather” in the PvP locker. The “Gladiator” set in the PvP locker is completely different than the “Gladiator” set you can buy. I can’t even FIND the “Scaled” set anywhere except the locker.
Please, someone throw me a bone. I don’t know why they decided to make those names NOT match up with the actual items, but since we can’t preview on the TP, going to the PvP locker and putting together armor looks for my characters has become my only workaround. The problem is that I can’t find the armor using those names afterwards
It’d be nice if any skin you’ve ever used, you can get as a transmutable item, like the HoM skins. No more “make a new character, transmute twice, move across banks, etc etc” nonsense.
That’s what transmutation stones are for…
Well, something that people should keep in mind is that “roleplayers” are not a unified population. Some kittenbags who are lording it over an area aren’t really “reflecting” badly on the rest of RPers, per se. They are jerks, and should be regarded as jerks.
Just because an RPer – or an RP guild – is rude to you, don’t let it generalize you to the whole hobby. After all, you could just as easily say “this guild of MMOers was rude to me, that tarnishes the reputation of all MMO players!”
The grin on my Sylvari’s faces during their idle animations and while dancing is, to me, one of the BEST things about the characters. LOVE IT.
>> A) I can imagine that if they were there for any length of time, they’d tune out the events like that simply due to frequency. Otherwise they’d have to pretend they stepped into a Groundhog Day loop or something.
One of the most fun RP sessions I had was at the krait attacking the lab event just near the swamp-dragon spawn. We got so exasperated with the constant fountain of krait… but we NEVER ignored the event and pretended it wasn’t happening.
If “those guys weren’t the heroes you assume they are” – then maybe they should stay safe in DR and away from dynamic events, hmm?
As an avid hardcore RPer, I’m sorry you ran into those kittenbags. “RPers” who treat the game like a chatroom instead of LIVING in the world give me hives.
I dont understand you people, who doesn’t want mounts?!
350+ hours in the game and I don’t want mounts.
There’s no need for them, and the game isn’t built for them and doesn’t need them.
No mounts.
Personally, they should get add an “arm rings” armor and let the charr run around bare-chested. They look so much better that way.
We really really need armor with less sleeves/shoulders, less skirts, and more of a strapped-on look. The armor they’ve got now does not look like it would work on a Charr’s physiology at all.
Of course, I’m going crazy trying to find that one-armed armor they use for the Whispers NPC in the “choose your Order” storyline. If I could have that, I’d be very pleased. As it is, I only like the pit fighter/gladiator armor, but both my charr wear medium
I’m looking for the name of the one-armed armor on charr… I have no idea what it looks like on other races. The Whispers NPC during the “choose your Order” storyline wears it, as do several NPCs around (it seems to be one of the default “citizen” toons) the Black Citadel and several Charr outposts.
I really really want this armor on my charr… help me out! I cannot find it in the PvP lockers or anything

I log into the account screen, but there’s no option to change my email address?
I’ve changed my password several times, but it doesn’t seem to “take” – it continues to use the same password I originally set up the account with.
A little help would be appreciated, even if just to let me know that functionality is (for some reason?) suspended at this time. (And if that’s the case, it should say that in our account screens!!)
Dual daggers, fire and water. I very rarely attune anything else.
I use a staff and stay full water in dungeons or hard group encounters though.
I love water. It’s perfectly balanced between hard hits and good regen. I’m 30 points in the trait line and I love it.

Dungeon finders are pretty much crap and help destroy any community a game has.
Ladder PvP is just a big sausage-swinging fest that we can all do without.
You’re right about xp for support though.
Thas is a lie. Destroy the game not having a good grouping system. Stay in the dungeon spaming LFG LFG is not social at all. This game doesn’t need the exact Dungeon Finder of Wow, but actual system is just uselles. They need to implement Channels ServerWide for each dungeon, and problem solved.
- Instant teleport to the dungeon? NO
- Instant party create? NO
- Any way to look for people without spam LFG LFG ? YES. In the only thing we need.
Maybe you need to brush up on your english, but calling someone a liar because they disagree with you? Unnecessary.
Additionally, you essentially said nothing that actually disagreed with me. YOU clearly don’t want a “dungeon finder” either, you want a global LFG channel, which I am definitely on board with.
I’ll be honest, the story quests do not seem tuned for one person, they seem tuned for a duo.
I play in a duo 90% of the time. We’ve managed all the story quests, and sometimes with a bit of nail-biting when we get flooded with mobs. A frequent comment over our little mumble server is “whew! I can’t imagine how someone is supposed to solo this!!” Because we’ve always got the ability to rez/support/guard each other, depending on the duo.
A friend of ours who is frequently in the same mumble is insisting on soloing her quests. She’s having to outlevel them in order to do it.
Overflow Lion’s Arch is like Mos Eisley…
Otherwise, the in-game community on my server at least is pretty great

Happiness: 9/10
My only shred of happiness that is sort of gouged away by the frequency of jumping puzzles that can’t be skipped because they’re required to 100%. I suck at jumping Otherwise, I love the game sooo much
And yes, I’m taking it slow. It boggles my mind that I have a character at 50% world completion and almost to the level cap and there’s SO MUCH I still haven’t done yet!
Pretty much all the ice mobs. Ice wurms, Ice norns, corrupted ice… anything that’s designed to knock me down. I hate knockdown sooo much.
Roleplay Lite (which I define as simply saying a few things in character while teaming with or grouping up with others) is tremendous fun and pretty much anybody can do it. City of Heroes used to be a great game for that (no worries about whether “thee” or “thou” is most appropriate
). But this game has yet to find its feet that way. I try and do it out in the field a bit, but it’s very rare that someone responds. I’ll keep trying though!
Roleplaying proper (which I would define as organized mutual storytelling – including actions) is a different kettle of fish – also a hell of a lot of fun but requiring a lot of commitment and a degree of literacy and keyboard dexterity that not everyone has.
Wow, as a long-time COH player, I couldn’t really disagree more with your categorizations.
RPing while teaming and fighting out in the world is a much more true and ‘proper’ type of RP, to me, than sitting about on one’s butt talking about things.
One of them is living your character out in a living world.
One of them is using the game as a glorified chat room.
Get the RP out of Pocket D and into the world!
RP is the endgame for me.
I’ll probably join you, endgame is just sad. I jumped on Tarnished Coast but its all Tavern Rp’s and everyone takes themselves way to seriously. Even if they type utter garbage. Playing a homeless drunk in LA now THAT’S living. I often take a break from the grind to preform this in LA overflow to the enjoyment and annoyance of many.
No it’s not ALL tavern RP! I’ve done SO much RP out in the wilds on Tarnished Coast, my friendlist is filling up with awesome people who love RP and do a great job, well outside of a tavern! Try talking in /say for a bit and see who pops up to join you! It’s pretty funny – I met one pair of RPers, and while I was talking to them, we collected 3 or 4 more, like moths to a lamp!
