I am perfectly fine with the WvW reward tracks. They do not need major rework and I would be perfectly happy if they stay exactly as they are.

I do not mind some small changes but there is nothing that would really bother me.

  • WvW reward tracks should be removed
  • WvW reward tracks should be reworked to award different kind of rewards and/or participation should be reworked to consider some other ways to fill reward track

I would still vote for 1. They are fine. I get plenty rewards. No need to tinker with them anymore.

By increasing the map cap so more players can fight in each map the lag in any larger battle will be much worse. It means while you can bring more players into the maps, none of them can actually play there.

So, it would be basically big PvE map with PvP enabled so everyone fights everyone else? Perhaps it would be easier to just create new PvP server where ALL game maps have PvP enabled and anyone can kill anyone else anywhere. Why start spending time and effort on something new when there is bunch of perfectly good maps done already?

So like I said, ya your little guild claimed it and it’s nice to see your banner up there… but if my guild comes along with a ton of upgrades and would like to claim it for the extra buffs then I really don’t see why this has become a thing to fight about.

It is mostly about pride.

It is also quite a lot about WvW upgrades requiring PvE grind. If you do mostly WvW whole day, you will have less upgrades compared to other guild that runs PvE constantly. So, not only are we punished for playing a lot of WvW but we can not even put our guild name on the objectives because some big shot PvE guild thinks they are better at playing WvW?

I will repeat again – unless your big shot PvE guild is there to capture the objective, you have no kitten right to start claiming ANYTHING. Go back to your lovely PvE instead of starting to whine about people who actually play in WvW.

Merged Servers

hm.. kind of difficult to understand your problem, but I think you are trying to say servers which had much smaller smaller server linked to them (for example Gunnar’s Hold with FoW) have now so many more players that servers which did not get any smaller servers linked to them are now outnumbered in every map.

I can not agree with that claim at all. GH+FoW is only linked server in current matchup against Baruch Bay and Jade Sea and BB outnumbers us by at least 2, while JS has about4 times more players. Sure, players are leaving because of matches are completely unbalanced (I suspect this ain’t much fun for JS either since all their many-many WvW guilds have nobody to fight), but in this case linked server is the one in huge disadvantage.

So, what is situation in EU generally atm?

Tier 1: Piken vs SFR vs Deso+Vabbi. Deso is winning but I higly doubt it is winning because of those couple players Vabbi has.

Tier2: Kodash vs Riverside vs AR+FR. Only well-balanced match. All very close.

Tier 3: ER vs Gandara + RoS vs AG + BT. Gandara is winning, AG doing badly so 1 linked server is ahead while other has fallen behind.

Tier 4: BB vs JS vs GH+FoW. As I already said, complete fail. GH+FoW should not be even near those 2 non-linked servers.

Tier 5: FSP+UW vs VS+AS vs AM. Another fail, FSP should be fighting much bigger servers instead.

Tier 6: DL+MS vs DZ vs RoF+WSR. Looks like DL+MS has no equal enemies there.

Now, overall, some linked servers are doing very well in their matches, while some are doing terribly. Same way, some non-linked servers are clearly winning, and some losing. Obviously the linking itself is not magical solution to win the matches, just the rankings are big mess atm and lots of matches failed to be interesting.

Yeah, the Alpine maps are pretty bad. Only been for few days and they already getting really annoying. At least Desert maps were getting better, now we are stuck with this old garbage again.

This thread is just another attempt to make sure small guilds leave WvW. Many already did after HoT release and now after they slowly manage to get some of the lost boosts back, you want to kick them out completely. Well, not everyone is in multi-server-thousand-member-super-guilds, people from small guilds work harder then all you big blobby lazy people and now you want to push them away just based on how many PvE players you got.

Really? Play, capture stuff, instead of sitting in PvE maps and then claiming objectives you never touched before. Nobody who hasnt been there when it was captured should NEVER be able to claim anything.

These horribly unbalanced matches are already making players leave again. It is just not fun at all when you are constantly outnumbered in every map and can not even capture one keep at prime time. After big WvW patch all 3 matchups so far have been truely bad, stop it already.

Did you manage to solve problem with Kills? I mean the number of kills vs deaths is pretty much just the population in server 1 vs server 2. If one side has the blob of 50 and other side has 25, the 50 will always run over the smaller group and increase their kills.

As long faster way to increase kills is to have more people, it should not be overly important factor in the score.

The guild with most players at the capture gets to claim objective. If the most players capturing it are all “trolls” then the server is full of them. It is not supose to be a system where you can just upgrade the auras with another claim later, you have to actually be there at the time of capture with enough guildies.

How about give them their own league? Set servers according to player ip location…..then you can set up match ups according to server location. Sure players could try to spoof their ip but why pay the extra to do so? This would solve many problems with lag and “night capping”, players wouldn’t be complaining about my night is your day etc……….as every player within that league would be more or less playing in the same time zone.

Because, in the end, the issue is not about day/night cycle or about people living all around the world. You can live in the EU, get up in the middle of night and play GW2, if you want. You can play it in the morning, or during lunchbreak or at afternoon. All those mythical OCX and SEA players are largely an excuse to gain unfair advantage.

It has been explained many-many times already during last 3 years, but some people do not bother reading and would rather create another troll thread to shout out loudly again and again. WvW is gamemode where you fight enemy players from other servers, meaning when no enemy is around, it stops being WvW. If you really-really like to fight NPCs and just destroy some walls or doors, you can do these things quite well in PvE zones. There are a lot of PvE areas in the game, you do not have to do that in WvW mode.

There is good reason players leave WvW – because they stop caring about the match, stop worrying about the score and stop trying to win. Once you take away the reason to even enter competitive gamemode, it will die. Eventually, lots of players move on to EotM.

Now we can ask why? Why players do not bother with score? Because for majority of WvW players, who mostly play at prime time, few hours every evening, their actions or their skills or their failures have no effect on the result. It does not matter if you are good or bad, lazy or stupid, it does not matter if you die or kill an enemy, it does not matter if you capture something or lose objective. You can do all those things, and so can everyone else who plays at prime time (again, this means most players) but matches are won or lost based on much fewer people playing (or not playing) when no or very few enemies are around.

What the score changes are suppose to do, is to make WvW exciting. To make it fun. To make winning or losing a match something everyone would care about, so that they would play more WvW, more GW2. Without it the future is dark, after this server merge more players will leave since the matches are not interesting and winning is impossible, more servers will die, more matches become empty until after some time we are facing another merge.

And I bet those who create these sort of threads never bother to read any of the explanations. Just wait for next one pop in with big discovery that Earth is round and there is somewhere night even now and how any change is totally/absolutely/unbelieveably unfair.

I agree with OP that Guardians are way too important in WvW group battles. No single class should be. And all the little boosts to other classes make the game more interesting and fun.

Very interesting. Was just looking at our new matchup and wondering about why we keep getting those servers much higher from us. Then I look at Kills per Server chart, and there we are practically nearby to our new enemies. Looks like kills are something new match setups rely a lot more now.

Then again, maybe its just GH. I don’t know about other servers much.

Bring Back the Desert Borderland!

When they first gave access to Desert maps in HoT beta, I hated those. Big, confusing, full of high things to fall into death. I was pretty disappointed when not that much was changed to the actual release.

Still in the months to follow I learned to move around the maps. It was easy to explore those as there was never any enemies around. They have been patched several times now and I feel the maps are fine. Only thing that really bugs me atm is how big the keeps are and how difficult it is to find an enemy in the keep.

I do not think “medium” is an accurate desciption of empty servers either. Still, are you saying there are NOT more players from host server in WvW now?

Last tier servers had so few players left, even whole server is not worth one single tier 1 guild. That is why I have difficulty believe the linking is main cause of servers going into Full status.

If server is full, for whatever reason, you should not be able to transfer there. There is no real reason guild would want to join Full server anyway as they would simply spend hours sitting in the queue.

I have already argued that high population servers probably had many old players returning to WvW and many new players trying it now with many changes that have nothing to do with server linking. To get them down from Full status players need to start transfer off first (or stop logging into WvW for next month) to make room for new players to join them.

Merging servers has no effect on skill lag in EB.

You could argue that if bringing back many players who have not played WvW for long time is worth the trouble, and yes, it is. If the options are no players and no lag, or many players and sometimes a lag I will always pick the last.

Need leveling guides, newbie here

You really have several options and can pick whichever way you like most. Personally I like to level up new class slowly and not to rush through the game.

If you have personal story pointing you somewhere, go and follow it. You should be able to finish fights within the story even if some may be difficult at first try. Finish the starter map near your race capital (completing a map means you visit all the pois, vistas and hearts). At some point you should level up enough so you can continue with personal story again. If next map starts to feel difficult, you can always go to other starter areas near other race capitals through Lions Arch.

Other then that, if there is event nearby – try to complete it, if stuff is on the ground – pick it up. Don’t bother upgrading your equipment too much, you will get some items from doing the story plus random drops that should be enough up to level 60+.

To Dayra: That is not completely true since none of the servers was linked to the equally populated server. Last servers that were linked had much less players left so combined servers are not now twice the size. They are of course now boosted, no arguing about that, just not by that much.

In case of my own server, I would imagine FoW is maybe about 25-30% the population of GH.

It depends on the server too, adding fairly empty server like Vabbi to top tier 1 like Deso has no real effect on the combined strength while combined strength of RoF+WSR is perhaps nearly double their separate strength.

And yet, sure, we can assume combined English servers are now performing better due to more players, even when new players are not that many. Again, would it help if some German server were combined? Now is the time to give feedback so Anet can adjust it during the beta.

If I understand it correctly, there wont be any matchmaking. You belong to one of the 3 factions permanently, each week you pick one of the campaigns to enter. The campaigns are basically “matches” but with different goals and different maps and hard caps on population.

Quite a lot of German servers are losing ranking heavily atm. Not sure why exactly.

Since this is all beta, there is possibility for Anet to relink servers when needed. Would it be better if 4 non-linked german servers would be combined into 1? Because we still need to be able to divide total servers into tiers of 3. Other solution would be splitting up 3 of those tier 1 overpopulated servers.

You have to buy HoT expansion for elite specs. For most classes elite specs are very good and for example in WvW pretty much required now. I do not play PvP so no idea, in WvW depends what you want to do. Do you want to roam in small group taking camps and towers, run in guild group fighting other guilds or join the big fat pug blob?

It is much more broken than simple “another set of skills”, much of it can never be fixed. And Anet has rightly ignored it for some time now.

1. It is in 3D. It means you very rarely know what is going behind you, as your blind area has grown a lot. People are used to walking on the ground and can easily manage similar system in games, full 3D is so much more confusing.

Part of problem with 3D battles is that there is no more ground targeting.. No ground = no ground targeting. Whole subset of skills relies on being cast at exact distance from you, all these are unavailable.

2. It is in water. Part of illusion swimming in water is how sloooooooowly you move. This means instead of usual ground battle where you constantly dodge and evade, your pretty much only option under water is to slooooowly move in one direction and then sloooowly move in next direction. This makes the battles clumsy and boring. A lot of skill in the usual fights involves knowing when your enemy will use the big damage attack and then avoiding it, that is always missing under water.

3. As the normal skills are unusable, you need entire new set of skills. Even if Anet decides to abandon idea of having 2 underwater weapons and sticks to 1, it still needs to be balanced between all 9 classes and any future class. Those new skills need to work with all the possible traits too which means most traits have to redesigned. And you still end up with less options to pick from compared with normal fights where most classes have access to many different weapons.

No its not. Those are the PPT you get for being in 1st 2nd or 3rd at the tick. Totally different, servers also get PPT for the structures they hold and it increases near the end of the week. And it decreases in the off hours hence the complaints from off hours players.

Possibly, to me the whole system looked exactly like described in OP. Maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, we have to wait until Anet publishes some more detail.

No they weren’t. The timezones are used to dictate what the expected population is supposed to be for that period and to weight the score accordingly, totally different to the OP. And I’m pretty sure a strong NA won’t be punished for being stronger than their opponents.

It would be difficult to argue about something we can not even post here. But let’s hope this will not be deleted, I will quote the unmentionable now:

There is nothing bad with server linking, its just the fact that vabbi is the only server linked to a t1 server, while the rest of the links are made betwen servers placed between position 10 and 18. (Not taking RoS into account here). I feel other linked servers contribute something to their host server.

Ah, I actually agree with you. Some of the links have worked out better, some perhaps not so. I think it could be somewhat worse in NA but since I know nothing about NA servers, it is tough to decide based on purely people complaining in the forum.

I have enjoyed our small FoW link with GH, and I honestly believe we are contributing to current match enough (even more when Jd starts to raid again next week, go us!). I have been running in big pug blobs (seriously, get into TS so you wont die) and we have tried smaller group fights in BL maps. There is queue for EB at prime time so I won’t go there but there is also 3 BL maps and they all have enemies now so I don’t care about EB once its full. Tho we did have queue to home BL yesterday after reset.

Maybe Anet can relink some of the more unhappy servers? After all, this is beta and things are suppose to change. Also, I suspect lots of players have been returning to WvW so current populations could be higher than expected.

People tend to overreact easily. The term “nightcapping” itself has become some horrible trigger forcing half the players jump in to point out how somewhere in the world day is night and night is day and how any change will ruin the game.

I don’t play WvW but I was wondering how the battles would be affected if WvW was modified so that two characters couldn’t occupy the same space. So instead of 50+ people standing in the same spot, to minimize being hit, you had to spread out like in a REAL war.

First thing that would happen – someone stands in the doorway afk, and whole server is stuck behind him. I have played games with this kind of system, it is not good idea.

More and more people transferring to vabbi feeling disappointed how badly the link is with deso.

I am just curious, what are you suggesting? Are you saying whole server linking is completely bad idea and should be canceled because you personally do not like it? Or that Vabbi should be linked to another server instead of Deso? Or that Deso is just bad server? Or perhaps whole attempt to bring players back to WvW is pointless because you really enjoy running around in empty map without enemies?

They should also remove the ability to use a WP from anywhere in the map, you should have to be in a tower/keep in order to WP, (or a camp/zone owned by your server) this might actually force servers to fight it out when they meet, as it stands no matter what they do to scoring will not fix the, run and hide mentality of some servers/zergs.

That is bad idea. What that means is that you have to spend more time running into tower/keep/camp instead of using WP the moment enemy is discovered on the other side of the map.

If however you are talking about enemy using WP when they see you, this change would not have much effect as they would simply run away. You still do not get a chance to fight them, you would just be running after them, again wasting time.

World linking and names [Merged]

this first one makes no sense to me. if the nameplate is red, then its an enemy.

ok, let me try to explain how I understand that problem (I could be wrong too but it makes sense to me).

Currently you have 2 variants of enemies, they both red but have 2 kind of server names, let’s call them server A and B. Now in the current linking server A could be linked to smaller server C and all of those enemies are still marked to you as server A. Same, way, even when server B has another server D linked, they all still carry name B.

So, we now assume every player from each server will carry the name they are originally from.

2 enemy blobs arrive from different enemy servers, some of them start to fight, some stand back. There are now enemies from servers A, B, C and D around you. Who do you attack? Which group do you push first? Do you even remember who is linked to who, considering your opponents are changed every week?

In the end, does it really matter which enemy server from the combined 2 you are fighting against? One is A, other is C, they are allied, they both attack you. One is A, other is D, they are NOT allied, but still both attack you.

It has nothing to do with server identity, they all enemies to you and you do not belong to any of these servers. But it has much to do with knowing which enemy belongs to each side.

Just to show how complex and impossible to solve this can be:

You have group of 20 players.

There is group of 10 enemies from server B left from you. And another group of enemies from server B with 10 players right from you.

There are 2 different groups of enemies from server C, one with 5 players and another 25 players.

You start to fight first group against B, then second group from B joins the fight. Finally server C runs in with both groups but from different sides. Now create a list of bonuses, describing who, when, for how long and why should be boosted?

Here is another example:
Your blob runs across the map into fight. It has huge tail. Half of your people never even make into the fight in time. How many of these people are considered to be part of the group that changes the boosts and how many were simply on the map but did not change battle result?

One of the skills players should learn, specially when fighting enemy with more players, is when NOT to fight. In general, if you rush into battle with 20 against 50, you should lose that fight for being stupid.

If you claim your players are in general more skilled compared to enemy players, then that itself IS already the buff you are asking for. Skill matters.
