I have proposed years ago that score each server ticks should be based on number of enemies on the map. No enemies = minimum score. Only 1 enemy server appearing = half the score. Full queue of 2 enemy servers = maximum score.
This would also help to reduce impact of nightcapping when there are no enemies around, you can still take objectives as easily as in any PvE map but you would not earn much points for them.
Same way, if primetime home borderland is totally painted to single color and there is huge blob killing few remaining enemies at their waypoint, this would gain very few points and add very little to the overall score.
Not that I like how BB scores during the night (we are currently linked to SfR), but that has always been their thing. The Skirmishes have made the gains smaller but they still get all their points when other 2 servers log off.
The game really does not have “day” and “night”, you can play it any time you like. And WvW ticks 24 hours too so there is no proper solution.
I will never understand why people bring up armor weight as if it’s a big debate point.
Maybe because heavy armor users take much less damage so they suit better for frontline?
The idea of linked servers is basically this:
Server A is bigger then server B and both are bigger then server C. Now we link server E to server B (B+E) so they together are about same size as server A. We also links erver D to server C (C+D) so they too have combined population same as servers A and B+E.
So there is no “linked servers fight only other servers with links too”. As long server A remains bigger then servers B and C, they should never get another server linked to them as this would only increase population difference.
I do like the idea. Ruins were implemented long before gliding and have been forgotten, allowing gliding through them until recapped by enemy would be small but nice addition.
As far I understand the map instances, there are multiple versions of every map. Once one is full, new instance of same map is created. This means even when many-many players are doing some world boss and you try to go into same map, you most likely end up in empty version of same map.
People take breaks from the game for various reasons, and once they return, it would be pretty annyoing to find you can not play with your guild in your own server anymore.
Personally I do not see any reason people would want to transfer into full server since the time you spend waiting in queue is not worth the potential benefits. But if someone is really very determined, and manages to get into full server eventually, let them.
Why do you have to play in Tier 1?
Increasing death penalty would simply make blobs bigger and roamers less interested going out solo or as small groups.
And who decides when repairing a wall is “waste of supplies”? You forget that WvW is NOT just about killing enemies or we could simply remove all the objectives, make small arena and brawl in there whole day. For many, repairing the wall or taking the camps is the point of WvW.
Also, doing damage in a group is not really difficult if all you want is more damage, but are you actually doing much to help the group? Because for a group to win fights it may be much more important to get boons up or corrupt enemy boons or heal or do other stuff beside pure damage.
Have to agree that losing server is losing because of lack of players or coordination. In both cases they SHOULD drop down to lower tier where they have servers equal to their own numbers. It is the same problem we have when one server has HUGE nightcap crew keeping them in higher tier where their population at primetime can not compete with other servers – we end up with boring match.
Half tempted to solo the last instance of HoT without armor and no traits allocated just to prove a point on how soloable it is.
Just because some people can run 100 meters under 10 seconds does not mean everyone can. Or should, considering this is a game that is suppose to be about having fun, and not about misery and suffering.
The reason is that linked servers have less players so everyone transfering there is balancing up the WvW.
I have high hopes that players will be able to come up with more zerg-suitable-classes we can currently imagine. Let’s just first wait out the expansion, try new elites and other changes it brings, and then start to argue about which class is viable.
The same problem happens in many story boss fights – depending on your graphics options some of the damage AoE could become completely invisible (or extremely difficult to see). Then players die easily, come to forum to complain and there will be endless arguments with those who have different graphics settings and can do same fight much more easily.
Why create same thread over and over every day? I can pick a moment to take screenshot when SFR is also outmanned and we try to defend against Vabbi or Deso blobs in borderland maps.
And again, what this has to do with server linking? Community is extremely happy with server linking and only few individuals have problems with it for unknown reasons. Nobody is going to transfer into FoW just because we help SFR to win the match.
What about the zerg fights where you have plenty of bodies in front or you while you deal zerker style damage from safety? That is not exactly avoiding death by using superior skill :P
Isn’t here the problem how stupidly strong ranged damage is?
Lets be honest, population is on all time high since rewards are introduced, linking servers serves no purpose anymore other then easy way to bandwagon and for anet to make easy cash from transfers. If you gonan continue with linkings you need to either open up full servers or lock transfers to linked servers. get your kitten together because the gamemode is a snorefest.
Pretty much nothing in this makes sense.
Let’s for a moment assume you are right and popluation is on all time high, this means every server marked as full has currently queues in every map during primetime. This means adding more players to these servers by “opening them up” would have no effect at all beside making queues longer.
Same way there is no reason to anyone transfer to the linked server to “bandwagon?” (whatever that is suppose to mean) because they share all the queues with the full server. Again, it would just make queues longer, and have 0 effect on the result of match because length of the queue is not rewarding more points.
I seriously have no idea what is your obsession thinking every player wants to pay gems so they can transfer into server with longer queues. Is there single reason anyone would want to do that? If you are actual WvW guild paying for transfer into full server or linked server would simply mean you can not raid anymore because no matter which map you pick you first have to wait 2 hours to get your guild in.
Can you explain a bit more which waterfall and why you need to get on top of it?
If you have not played 3 years in last tiers against empty servers then you do not know how bad it is. Just stop talking rubbbish.
Linking was the best thing devs came up with. It works.
I would imagine single Wall of Reflection would get whole Deadeye zerg kill themselves.
Just replacing CPU has most likely no effect at all. Your FPS is combination of many PC parts – CPU, GPU, Motherboard, Memory, HDD/SDD. Replacing them all would basically be building new PC, and then the eventual FPS depends mostly on how much money you want to spend.
I’m a pve player looking to get into wvw. What is the best way to start learning it?
I would first try to follow pug commander, normally in EB. Any class with range is fine for this purpose. Also if they ask to join Teamspeak, do so.
I was going to reply with GTX 1050 as minimum, but there are no low profile single slot GTX 1050 cards.
The MSI has RX 460 low profile and single slot:
But it’s cooler is actually quite big, and depending on the PC you have, it still may not fit. I mean yes, it only requires 1 slot, but there still have to be room for second slot to fit that cooler.
It is also possible your HP power supply does not have extra 75 W required to run RX 460.
I dunno, looks like you are stuck with GTX 1030. Sure, it is better then integrated graphics but as video card it is very weak.
I use them in WvW and when doing story bosses. Not when just running around on the open world PvE.
The comment about WvW being zerg is accurate sometimes and completely wrong many other ways. There is no single well defined “WvW player”. Instead, many different types play WvW.
Yes, there is usually pug blob running around in EB. You can follow commander tag and gain your pips without investing that much in your build and equipment. It is some sort of tutorial for new WvW players who have little idea what is going on in WvW in general and just want to have little fun and earn some rewards.
But there are also many other ways to play WvW. There are Guild groups that fight guilds from opposing servers. GvG fights are about skills, about builds, and they also require good equipment to support skill and build.
There are roamers, scouts, duelers and other sort of players who very rarely get involved in zerg vs zerg battles unless it is about attacking or defending big objective. They all very much care about equipment too.
And of course same player could do all those different things. You CAN spend all your WvW time in zerg but you don’t have to.
Fine, I have rephrased the reply.
I was going to purchase POF on this site through Digital River? Anyway, I wanted to pay with paypal, but my paypal email address is different from my GW2 email address. Can I do that? When I filled in billing information, I was afraid to click “submit order” button, it didn’t ask me for Paypal login or anything… Help and thoughts appreciated
Please contact Support (links available on the top of the page). They will help you (may take some time because lot’s of people have alls ort of problems now that new expansions is getting ready).
I like solo-ish content, I really like gw2’s personal story so far, pvp seems fun, and I enjoy exploring the map and doing world bosses. Are things like raids and dungeons necessary to enjoying gw2’s endgame? I’ve been thinking of purchasing the hot and pot bundle but I’m just worried that gw2 may not have enough content that I like at endgame.
Also, can things such as legendaries be acquired without raids/dungeons/fractals? :o
You do not have to do any dungeons or raids or fractals. But, you first have to define what is “endgame” for you. For many players raids for example ARE the endgame, not the way to get ready for endgame, but the endgame you prepare your characters for.
Legendary gear for example is purely cosmetic in GW2. It does not give you ANY better stats compared to much more easily available Ascended gear. So you only finish Legendaries when you want to, you do not have to. Getting one or several Legendaries can also be endgame. I don’t think you can actually get any Legendaries without doing raids/dungeosn/fractals.
The OP’s request is not an ask for a return to the early days, it’s an ask for players who have not spent the cash to unlock the elite specs to be able to avoid competing with players who have.
So, you think OP wants developers to spend considerably long time to create new game mechanics and add new code just so players who have not payed anything for the game could continue to play it for free longer and stay competitive against those players who did pay? And that makes sense how? Wouldn’t adding such option make Anet earn less money after all that work?

Yesterday I was on EBG and was outmanned. You should move to a lower tier to see what WvW is like for most other players.
I am in lowest tier server (tagged as Medium). We have been linked this week to another bigger server (full) and placed in EU Tier 3. There are queues in EVERY map in EVERY day during primetime. There are obviously no queues after people go to sleep.
And we spent hour yesterday during Guild raid as Outmanned too. Any server can find some timeframe at some map when they are outmanned. Even if you relax the population status and let twice as many move into full servers, they ALL still want to play at exact same time too, making queues at prime time twice as long.
I honestly do not believe MOST WvW players are playing in last tier, fairly sure most players are still in the full servers.
Ascended trinkets drop pretty much every day in WvW.
How many ascended trinkets have dropped for you the past 30 days?
I have played only about 10 days in WvW after returning from the break, couple hours each day. I have got 4 trinkets and ascended weapon chest.
Sorry, I have no idea what my magic find is (guessing, low) and I do not use any boosts.
(edited by FogLeg.9354)
But opening servers and lowering map caps would simply explode the queues. We have already queues in every map, could take 15-20 minutes to even enter WvW. Why would you want to make players wait for 3 hours just to play WvW?
You do understand that game has already changed most of the core skills, traits, runes, stats and conditions, during the HoT release and years following it? Simply disabling elite specs is not going to bring back “good old days” since everything else has been changed also.
Ascended trinkets drop sometimes in WvW.

I think the best comparison will be LS3 maps as they were developed in parallel with PoF.
I agree, what was shown in PoF preview was quite similar to the LS3 maps. So, visiting Bloodstone Fen, Ember Bay, Bitterfrost Frontier, Lake Doric, Draconis Mons and Siren’s Landing should give some idea what to expect from PoF.
You’re saying people make up rules but I pointed out 2 parts of the code of conduct says you’re not supposed to deliberately sabotage the enemy server. This isn’t Joe Random making up rules, this is ANet rules about how you shouldn’t match manipulate and respect other people’s rights to enjoy the game. If you honestly think deliberately doing this sort of thing is not hurting other people’s enjoyment then you’re probably one of these win at any cost guys who doesn’t care how many people you end up screwing over so long as you get your kicks.
I suggest you look up of the meaning “match manipulation”, or if it helps “match fixing”, how it relates to the gambling and why it is bad in any competitive sport.
Now if you demand bringing up PvP rule for WvW, YOU are the one with your made up rules about how other players MUST behave is the one NOT respecting right of others to play and enjoy the game. YOU are the one harassing someone just because they pulled tactivator. YOU are the one threatening them with posts in the forum, with bans, with false reports. YOU are embarassing them for NOT playing the way YOU want. YOU are causing distress and unwanted attention to other players. YOU are posting insulting, offensive, and abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages and reporting players maliciously.
Since you are breaking Rules of Conduct, obviously, YOU should be removed from the game so others can enjoy it. Right?
What they mean is if they could have a border map where it is only core build players (no HoT or PoF elite specialisation skills).
I still don’t understand how that would make WvW any more fun. You just prevent players changing maps quickly because they use one build in one map and if they want to hop to “non-elite” map they have to waste time equipping new weapons, swapping out gear and changing traits.
I think the suggestion could actually work in PvP where you have time to prepare. You could have non-elite matchups where only core classes are allowed. But in WvW where most of the battles are still about numbers, it would just make the game more confusing without any real benefits.
You could come up with number of similar suggestions: how about BL map without ranged damage? BL map without any siege? Map where you can not equip any equipment? Map where everyone is permanently poisoned? But… would any of these improve the WvW?
Second – Players making up rules how to play
Much larger problem that can not be solved so easily. It does not even affect only WvW but happens in raids, or PvE meta events. There is quite often some player who wants to be in control and make sure every other player plays the game in one specific way. And, since very few people want to be controlled, and told how they MUST play, things get ugly really fast and feelings are hurt. Ends with another useless thread about “why Anet does not do this and that so I could be happy”.
Well, truth is, in any multiplayer game every player has their own view about how the game works, what they should do and how to react to something happening in the game. Just because something in the game is very important to you, does not make anyone else care about it. Your personal goals are just that – your own goals. Nobody else has to have same goals and do anything to reach your goals.
Moving to the WvW, players constantly complain about other players. Their own server is always full of lazy lootbags, scratching their nose at the spawn instead of helping to repair, defend and attack. And if they finally move from spawn they do not move fast enough, they die instantly at the first sight of enemy, fall off the cliffs, run wrong way, waste supplies, die again, build siege in wrong place, do not build siege at all, shoot cannons at wrong direction, do not shoot cannons, die while shooting cannons, die when taking enemy camp, die at enemy lord, disconnect, lag, make map queue longer, do not change maps, change to wrong map and basically are doing everything wrong.
Not to mention enemies, who always have millions of separate accounts to spy at the enemy spawn, pull tactivators before their zerg attacks, waste supplies, call out wrong movements about enemy zerg and in general it is completely amazing they manage to even play with their own account in their own server.
If they finally go and play with their own account, they only run in zerg, die, build siege in bugged spots, build siege in camps, die, always outnumber our server, still die, tag objectives while running around them, never tag objectives when siegeing them, change maps when losing a fight, ragequit every time they die, duel near our obejctive, gank at our spawn, die when we gank them, fall off the cliffs in funny way, use broken builds, use only most OP builds, use builds that were OP 3 years ago.
So the solution to make WvW better is to ban every player who does not know how to or do not want to play it the way you want them to play. This includes, but is not exclusive to players who:
1 – Pull Tactivators. They always do it at wrong time anyway, few minutes or hours or days before enemy zerg attacks this objective or some other objective, and they always do it on purpose. And all of them are enemy spies.
2 – Die. I mean, obviously they only die on purpose to give loot to the enemy and help enemy rally.
3 – Command. Every commander is useless and always going in wrong direction, taking the zerg away from the objectives it should of defend and attacking enemy objectives which have no value. If they come to defend, they are late. On purpose. They also die (see previous reason).
4 – is afk. Most players obviously only join WvW to go afk at the spawn. Many of these are enemy spies anyway, telling enemy where our commander tag is. The only other reason is to make WvW lag more, on purpose.
5 – is in queue. Everyone knows queue exist only because of enemy server has millions of separate accounts to prevent our players joining WvW. It is quite obivous. People in queue are just making queue longer, and they do it on purpose.
6 – is not in TS. How difficult can be it download extra program, install it, configure it, update it, connect to the buygoldandteamspeakforserverxxx.dot.mychannel.somesign.whoah.nice.address:9999
ask permission in team chat, get permission 20 minutes later, join the xxxwwwonly channel under the generalstuffandotherchannels (not the wwwxxxonly channel, nobody uses that), which was posted in map chat by coolWarrirAndChrrRules2004 just yesterday.
uh, I will reply separately, as clearly there are 2 non-related issues here.
First – Tactivators.
The main thing players forget is that all Tactivators are suppose to be Guild-only. You claim the objective, and then you defend it. If you want to make absolutely sure they will never be used – don’t make them public.
Problem is, nobody claims objective for their guild and then actually guards and defends it, as a guild. So when the Tactivators would require guild member to pull it, nobody is there to use it. So every single one is made public.
However, once you make it public, you must also accept it can be used by ANYONE at ANY TIME. There is no way to quarantee it will be used by selected members of your server at perfect time so it will save the objective. Making it public means you it could be useless. You have basically decided you do not care what happens in the objective, despite you claiming it.
Now, instead of this endless whining and complaining that will not solve anything, let’s try instead find some way to make problem go away or at least make it less annoying.
Solution 1 - Remove Tactivators. Would you actually miss them?
Solution 2 - Reduce their effects AND reduce cooldown time. For example Emergency Waypoint would have cooldown of 5 minutes, instead of 20, but it would only last for 10 seconds. OR it would only allow 10 players teleport in before closing. This way, even if used at “wrong” time by “wrong” person, you can use it soon again so no harm done.
Solution 3 - Remove the option to make Tactivators Public. Only Guild members can use it, and if your Guild has some idiot who constantly pulls it, you have also the means to get rid of that person and make sure it does not happen again.
Many players like their own guilds of course but you can always have community server wide guilds that are only created to claim stuff, put tactics in and keep those unwanted players out. Main difference between “every player in server” and “every player in server-wide guild” is the ability to kick out players you do not like.
Then again, if nobody in your server wants to take time and handle this community guild, and nobody bothers to join it and use it to claim objectives, maybe the big problem is that players in your server do not care about objectives, do not care about winning and do not care about tactivators either. So, if nobody cares, nothing has to be done to change this either.
Even further, Anet does not even have to change anything in the game, all you have to do is to become less lazy and stop using tactivators publicly.
Solution 4 - Still using the guild-only system, your Guild would only have claims on the objective as long one guild member stays on the map. As soon everyone from the guild have left the map, every claim is cleared and all the other players left on the map will get popup with queue to claim freed objectives to their own guild. Same way it works when you take objective from enemy, guild with most members gets to pick first and then next guild etc.
Again, only the member of guild who has claimed the objective, is able to use Tactivator. But this way there will be always member of the guild with the claim in the map. Can not be bothered to stay near objective to defend it? Then blame yourself when it is lost.
What do you mean?
I will support the mesmers (chrono) too, they are essential to proper group.
As about huge pug zergs, I dunno, these fights tend to be quite random. So many other things could affect the outcome beside simple class.
I have not much to add to the topic about thieves and roaming. That is their role, that is what they are designed for and where they shine.
Not all of us like crafting or doing WvW for these stats.
So, you want to have these stats sold from NPC and do not want to raise crafting?
In that case I misunderstood you and my last reply was probably way off, sorry about that.
As about maxing crafting, I dunno, it never felt too overwhelming to me. Maybe because it took me over an year to get one maxed. Sure it’s boring and fairly pointless timewaste. I also think raising crafting profession is major goldsink in the game, draining out all those materials and gold players waste.
I spend most of my time in WvW and open PvE…is that ok or do I need dungeons and fractals?
Nop, you do not need dungeons or fractals. Actually, if you do WvW a lot then Ascended weapon boxes drop there. You can not choose stats on these but you can pick which wepon you want. This means you do not even need to max your crafting discipline.
The recipes for ascended weapons are all in the wiki. You need to max crafter first (weaponsmith, artificer or huntsman), this can take quite a lot of time or gold. Once maxed you have to craft bunch of time-gated materials or many parts can be bought from TP if you got enough gold.
yeah from the looks of it they definately are creating a gear treadmill not with the rarity but with the stat combos.
Yes but core Tyria is free. New stats are one (not only) reason for players to pay for the game.
Consider this – suppose new expansions that you bought for the real money would have WEAKER stat combinations then those you can find for free. How long you think it would take for forum to be filled with complaints from angry players?
It is not the situation where you get 0 stats for free. For some builds core tyria stat combos are playable even today, for some HoT stats are slightly better, and surely for some whatever PoF brings in will be best. Yet, the difference is not huuuuuuge…
You should contact Support and ask for them to look at it.
There should be a way to report chronic and purposeful people who are on other servers who change toons and hit the tactivators just before any keep hit.
You are completely wrong. No company can punish their paying customers on a whim that someone feels like doing wrong things on wrong time. You first MUST prove the things they do are done on purpose and not by accident. The case of tactivators can never be proven, so it also can not be punished for.
Just because you THINK someone is doing something on purpose has no value.
Historically Condition Damage did not need to be mitigated because it had no stacks and there was only few different condis available, which meant you could easily wipe everything without taking much damage. The reasons why it was changed could be read here:
Over time they have added quite a lot new condis and also replaced confusion and torment from their original idea of popping at skill activation or movement with common DoT. Also pretty much every skill these days applies some sort of condition beside the original damage. I do feel the original idea of having only few condis that you could easily get rid of has been lost and some sort of new way to reduce damage you take from condis might be good idea.
Not saying it should be toughness, as it could end up “must” stat for everyone, reducing number of playable builds.
Or many skills/traits could just be reworked so they also remove condis with equal rate these get applied on you.
And finally, I do believe there is no need to have so many different condi damage types that are all basically just DoTs. Confusion, torment, poison, bleeding and burning are all same thing with different icons that fill up your screen.
My Team chat works fine.
See OP? This problem doesnt exist, FogLeg confirmed.
Getting data about how many players are affected helps a lot when trying to find out the cause of problem. Something you chose to not give, making your comment not helpful to anyone. So far we only know it is bugged for one and not for other player while third attempts to be funny.
