I did read in one of the proposal threads about idea to change map-wide outnumbered buff into objective-based outnumbered buff. It would work basically same way Objective Auras for Guild Claims work atm, only the game counts number of attackers and number of defenders around the objective.

It would avoid the problem with any meaningful buff messing up fair fights other side of the map.

I really can not recommend any transfers during the current WvW beta. With BL maps change just ahead and more possible updates coming, server situations may change rapidly.

Not sure if your conclusion that host servers are full because they got linked with smaller server is completely true. Have you not seen many people returning to WvW because of these changes? The host servers could be full because they atm have more players playing.

I have fought Ruins of Surmia and there is no way linking them to any server will make host full. They have about 10 active players left.

We really do not know what will happen next week, which matches we get or how long this good interest will remain. I understand you are upset but perhaps you could try to avoid insulting low population servers in every post? I really do not like to be called leech.

You can not use land skills underwater, whole battle system is designed at 2D. Ground-targeting, dodging, these things will never work underwater.

Perhaps the Boon stripping or corrupting skills should only remove one stack of Stability per 0.75 sec, same way the control skills do.

That is without doubt a really, really terrible idea. The boon stripping/corrupting skills would be useless then, since u do have up like 8-10 different boons in your group.

How would they be useless?

If you have 8 boons and you remove/corrupt any other boon except Stability, it will work EXACTLY like atm. Only in small chance of 12% cases you would hit Stabilty but instead of removing all the stacks at once, you would still remove 1 stack. Lets say on average you manage to get 3 stacks of Stability, we are talking about 4-5% nerf to the remove/corrupt boon skills.

It would affect more if you have fewer boons so you have higher chance to hit Stability.

If you object the idea so much, I would also be fine with following system:

  • as long you have other boons, any boon removal/corruption skill will target those first. They will remove Stability (still all stacks) only if the Stability is only boon you have

Not sure if I’m wrong but, for some reason there are still issues with stability. A few days ago I ran around in fire keep and used dolyak signet to get 10 stacks of stability that a mesmer was able to strip with just one attack.

Could very well be a bug. I can see it happening at 0:49, 10 stack appearing and then all gone. Have you report it as the possible bug?

Duelers can duel if they want. Anyone else can interrupt their duels and kill them if they want.

I completely disagree. Spent every day in WvW, both as smaller guild group (about 15) and as pug blob and nothing is unstoppable. We wiped much bigger enemy zergs both as smaller guild group and as pug blob. Sure, you have to adapt to the changes, you need to create new strategies and update builds and skill rotations.

Just last night our pug comm ran into enemy zerg 3 times in a row and got us all killed. But, he then changed our tactics completely and for the most part we won next fights against same zerg. So, again, I can not agree that big zergs are unstoppable.

Guardians were OP and needed to little nerf. They are still backbone of every WvW fight, they simply can not replace every other class as easily now.

A lot of players from the low tiers enjoy currently fights they have missed for so long. If you have opinion about something, speak for yourself, please, you are not speaking for everyone or even for majority.

I am from low tier server and I have not heard anyone in the game complain about linking. Not from my server, not from the host. Everyone is just busy fighting. And happy.

So much selfish attitude here.

Without the comm your server will lose, no matter if you or your friend manage to get into the map and then complain why no comm is around. It is not about popping the tag and getting first in line, which most commenters try to point. It is fairly easy to flag active comm with 50 players in the squad for over 3 hours and push him in front of queue. Stop being selfish already and think about your server too.

We had epic 3-way SM fight yesterday at GH+FoW against DZ and FSP+UW. It lasted over 2 hours I think and only ended because our comm got tired of fighting FSP blob in their chokes and pulled them out from SM into open area so DZ got in and capped the SM.

My point (beside that it was great fight) is that lag was horrible. Half the players comments on chat and TS were about the lag. You cast the skill and it will pop 2 seconds later. Comm says to push, you start to move but whole screen is frozen. It really ruins the fun if you die because of lag.

1. Only if you plan to join WvW (which you should, it is great fun).

2. Commanders are also required in WvW. In PvE they are mostly used to show players where to gather up when World Boss events start.

3. At level 21 none of the resources matter. Pretty much do not worry about those until you hit level 80 and start to craft Ascended items.

4. PvP (and WvW) are mostly endgame content, filled with players with maxed builds and 3 years of training. You can try them but you will die. A lot.

5. Don’t bother with dungeons until level 80. They do not give anything worth the trouble.

They would have to disable gliding in combat so people cant just fly away constantly, otherwise it would just ruin fighting completely and take away any strategic value terrain has. Ranged weapons would have an obvious advantage to hit anyone flying. Not everyone has HoT, so would they be locked out from gliding, what about different gliding tiers like in masteries would they apply, what about glider skins for non hot owners. None of this needs to tie up developer time and resources for wvw, better spent elsewhere. Basically gliding would be completely useless in wvw, and would really only be usable in spawn.

If you are afraid being hit while flying, don’t glide, use your feet.

They already have no-fly zones at jumping puzzles, same system could be used to protect area around keeps and towers.

Every day, after doing PvE stuff, I go to WvW and jump off the very first cliff… and fall to death. Every day… It just feels so natural to be able to glide, and WvW needs that too. Just like we needed autoloot.

Nightcapping is still going. There is just more players in every server at any time, even at off-hours so clearing all maps is now more difficult. You still gain points with strong nightcrew, but your enemies fight back and recover faster.

About the queues, I dunno. When I see queue in EB (happens a lot), I go to other maps which do not have any. I guess it could be possible for some servers to have queues in every map all the time, I can see why this would make players angry. There are also some players from low population servers who feel their server identity has been removed and they are forced into blob vs blob war. Which makes them unhappy.

Why keep the old meaningless glicko?

I am not specially “happy” to get ran over by much bigger server with their blobs. I mean, I am happy to see enemies, just not so many in one place without fair chance to fight them.

Very unbalanced matches are not much “fun” to either side.

So far only queues in our GH+FoW server are on EB, even at prime time BL maps are still usually queue-free. Adding more maps… I dunno.

As long you control Garrison and have WP there, you can get anywhere on the desert map fast enough. But I was just following comm (who does a lot of commanding every day) yesterday who got completely lost in Desert map.

Has anyone reached out to EU to find out how they did it? My understanding is they spread out (not band wagoning) and they have a less PPT oriented environment, people care more about the fight engine and engagements.

There are also many German, French servers (and 1 Spanish) so if you want to play the game only in one of these language, your possible number of servers to transfer is much fewer.

There is actually only 8 international, mostly English speaking, servers in EU atm, while NA has 12.

What I have seen so far in our new linked match, people from FoW (the small, almost dead server) are more interested about points, they defend keeps, run around in BL maps etc. While the players from GH (the bigger server we got linked to) mostly don’t care about that, they just do the blob vs blob fight in EB whole day. Maybe I am wrong, and I do not wish to insult anyone from GH, just my impression so far.

The queues could be bugged, I admit it is possible. Also there are weird lag spikes in WvW, could be servers choking on all the returning players.

There is no cause and effect that forcing players to spread out will equal more fun matches. Balanced Tiers is far more important than trying to equalize world populations.

Where have you been for last 3 years? the players who stormed into tier 1 servers, abandoning every server in last tiers are the cause WvW got into boring endless downward spiral of losing players who did not find anyone to fight.

You think last tiers were “balanced” and “fun” just because all servers were empty? No, they were horrible. The top EU servers have been fairly balanced and they change tiers constantly, thats the proof you want. Not that stale NA locked system.

I have my doubts about this system, considering there will be even less players joining the smallscale matches then there was playing in low tiers before linking. And it was really empty already. Maybe if they only get 1 single map, instead of 4 empty maps.

And personally I would probably not join the smallscale match, but I think there are still players who would. At least it is solid idea.

Not that I like afkers either but how would you decide who is “just macroing their skills etc just to fool the afk check” and who is in WvW really playing? Even if you simply stand still for 10 minutes, chatting with guildies, you could still observe enemy movements same time.

The people defending this are just those who were stupid enough to buy HoT.

You do understand that game needs to generate money to be able to keep up the servers, develop new content and fix old bugs? Just because you are playing completely free, does not mean whole content has to be free too.

It is common business to provide small improvement like autoloot for players who wish to support company running the game. You do not have to buy, you can still play it without it, again, completely free. But it makes life slightly easier. And generates income.

If in the future more expansions will be released, these will again include new items, skills and improvements currently not included in the free game or even in the HoT. I certainly expect to pay for it, again. If I find those useful. I would not try to complain about in the forum and try to get everything for free, even when I have once payed for much older content without any of the new stuff.

Lots of players are trying out WvW again after recent changes. Some may leave again soon (I hope they do not).

The idea to lock overpopulated servers is to get people spread out more evenly and make matches more fun. You could still transfer to less populated server even now.

Maybe you are rushing in conclusions that “The partial reset does nothing for preventing stagnation of matches.” It has been only 1 reset and just few days so far. You can not deny that ideas to improve WvW have been in right direction, we may need to wait some time to see full effect.

Every Dungeon has Story mode which is easier to finish. Use the LFG tool to get few fellow players and try it out.

Most of the level 80 Exotic gear is not that difficult to get. For example you probably have gathered enough Karma to get the armor sets in Orr maps:

Or maybe you got enough Laurels to start getting ascended trinkets:

Exotics will be enough for many situations. If you want to upgrade to Ascended Armor and Weapons, you need to start leveling up crafting. It is pretty long process and costs loads of gold.

I am having loads of fun on Desert maps atm. EB is overblobbed anyway, and has queues. It will be overblobbed even when Apline maps return and will have queues then too.

But then players will have an alternative to EB. At the moment my two options are queueing for EB or going to a dead borderland. The end result is me just closing the game. Currently only one BL keep is flipped in T2. For a Sunday afternoon that is completely abnormal – especially given the increased playerbase the world linking brought.

No idea what you talking about, BL maps have been full of action whole weekend. I have stayed there for 3 days and they never “dead”. They just have no queues, as EB does most times.

There is very simple way to get enemies to show up, go and flip some stuff in their home BL, try it, it’s really fun. They fly in like a spawn of angry wasps! Specially if you manage to get into their keep.

You just closing the game is just you being lazy.

You can argue as much as you want that desert BL is amazing. The hard fact is that nobody plays it, which is why Arena Net is bringing alpine BL back. If you had played WvW before HoT you would see what an incredible decline WvW has been in since.

I have never said Desert map is amazing. Specially, at the release, it had several problems. But there have been many improvements, which you have all missed because you do not go there so you have no idea what has been improved or changed. People whining about Desert maps are the ones who never play there, so they have no knowledge about the issue, mostly they repeat same old complains from the HoT release. It’s too large, waa-waa-waa, I fell to death, waa-waa-waa, I’m lost… etc

WvW was declining before HoT and much of the decline has nothing whatsoever to do with maps, and you would know it too if you had played some WvW before HoT was released. There are deeper things gone wrong.

Desert map has some good stuff and some bad. Alpine maps were terrible too in many ways but it is easy to forget about these stuff you have not seen for many months. Bringing them back won’t be amazing experience, there will be again many players complaining about Desert maps, about Alpine maps and about why the maps keep changing all the time.

It does not have to be based on the tag. If you are managing squad of 50 players, you are obviously commanding, you could be pushed forward in queue, maybe not straight to first but faster then other players.

Good post, I agree with it completely

Just perhaps to argue about this (or we could do the arguing in separate thread):

Score adjustments, in particular I think that PPK values are too low in comparison to PPT and of course off-time scoring adjustments, as well as additional “outnumbered” adjustments.

Not sure if pushing PPK up is really good idea. Most of the kills come from those blob fights in EB, and there it is just about having larger blob. So, basically PPK is awarding higher population server, with more blobs. In our current match it shows EXACTLY how much more players one server has over 2 others.

I like that it does contribute but it should not be major factor until servers are all truely balanced up.

  • What are your thoughts on the rate at which you gain participation?
  • How do you feel about the rate you earn reward track points?

I would say, so far, I had constant flow of chests and items, either by rank up or reward track. You finish few events, wipe few enemy blobs and you get something new again! Loads of stuff to open. It’s great, maybe even too much tbh.
