Because the score awarded is absolutely the same around the clock. Neither person around the time of day is awarded more or less. Right now the score scales with population perfectly well. If the enemy has 30 players, you’ll need 30 to stay even. If you have 400, the enemy will need 400. It’s always been balanced.

And that is what has to be changed, that is exactly what has been wrong with this coring system.

It does not have to be same around the clock, actually, it is REALLY BAD IDEA to have passive tick exactly same around the clock.

As you already so nicely created example of what is wrong with current scoring – you will need 30 players to counterplay enemy when less players are around. If you have instead 30, I dunno – 5, those 30 enemy players will take everything. So, losing 25 people is huge deal when less enemies around.

But when enemy has 400 players, you need 400 too. Or you could even fight them, let’s suppose, with 375 people. It’s really more or less same result. 25 more or less will not change much.

Now as we learned from example you created, it does matter WHEN those 25 people are playing, proving that time is important factor when calculating points.

I cannot express how pleasing it is to battle for 8+ hours straight tonight and know that I didn’t miss picking up a single loot bag thanks to WvW Autoloot! The fighting is so fluid now; no more pressing keys to try and pick up my stuff during battle, or worse – trying to run back to “get your bags”, or even worse still – just leaving my bags behind! Those days are GONE, baby!

Nownow, let’s not get too excited. It can still be improved. I have lost SEVERAL bags already this week when I die and bags appear next to my cold dead body.

Here’s a simple fix. Capping an objective adds to your score ONCE. Defending then becomes an exercise in preventing the enemy from scoring. Player kills then become the dominant scoring mechanism.

The change plans that can not be directly mentioned actually had same idea – they still had small passive tick but capturing gave much more points, specially when objective tiers increased. The result being that if you capture tier 1 objectives from whole maps when no enemies are around (before anyone jumps in, NOT IN THE NIGHT, but any time) and then they all slowly upgrade while no enemies are around to recap (ANY TIME, NOT JUST NIGHT!) and eventually enemies return to the game and take most of them back, your cap score from low tier obejctives + your tick while no enemies are around is not that much higher as the amount of points enemies gain from capturing the now much higher tier objectives back.

This won’t happen for technical reasons (our NA and EU datacenters are entirely separate.) Though even if it was technically possible, there’d still be design reasons to avoid doing so, like that EU national worlds wouldn’t have NA partners that spoke the same language.

Why you think they will relink servers every 3 months? As far I understood the comment in Reddit, Anet was imply saying they could possibly do it, if things change enough. It does not mean they will.

Same way the whole server linking is currently in beta. It could be ended too if it fails.

I am mostly ok with stuff Fates Intertwined posted, but again, common mistake of trying to increase the value of individual opinion by claiming to be representing group of people:

“We are not a whole bunch of isolated individuals unhappy with the loss of our community. We are a community unhappy with the loss of our identity. "

Thing is, it is you who is unhappy. At best it is you and couple of your buddies. Or some members of your guild. Or few people constantly repeating same thing on map chat.

I can quarantee it is not everyone in your server. Unless you have already completed extensive analysis of whole population of your server pre- and after-linking system. Which I doubt because analysing large amount of data takes time and you only had 1 week to complete it.

In reality, some players in your server are happy and some are unhappy. Just like it was before the linking. There is no way everyone feels exactly same about everything. And please, please, don’t attempt to even talk about how other servers feel about the change.

I recommend to take a look at OP again. If you would also start your personal comment with words “how my gf and I currently feel”, then all would be fine. But now it sounds you either do not actually know what you are talking about or you lie.

This has been suggested at least once every week. I am all for gliding in WvW. It is fun and helps you move around faster and I have yet to see any real arguments against it.

1. There are 4 maps to play with. If both comms have huge ego and cannot co-exist on single map, one should pick another map. It would still leave 2 maps without comm.

BTW – it has not happen so far in GH+FoW matches. I have seen both GH comms and FoW comms around, and pretty much everyone is happy when comm is tagging up.

2. Temporary as in once every 3 months. Nobody has said anything about changing links every week. And if you can not set up server TS within 3 months…

Again, my exp was that very next day linking went online GH had their TS updated for all kind of nice stuff for FoW players.

3. No idea what you talking about. Account spying and siege trolling are increased by server linking? How exactly?

About the rest, there are no real arguments, just your opinions without any backup.

I only had lag once in 3-way SM fight. Other than that, it’s fine. BL maps with blob fights = fine. EB outside SM = fine. Off-hours any map = fine.

Of course I agree with you that PPT has some merit in trying to encourage strategy. And I think PPK and PPT both have a place in WvW, but maybe we need to see some changes to the way PPT works. In general I am not really in favor of the current ‘coverage wars’.

Absolutely agree. I have posted many times about changes in scoring, how and for what points could be awarded. And I think we will see some changes in the future anyway

ok, I have not been in BB and I do not speak Spanish so I will just explain why people consider many BB players to be from other timezones. See if you can spot the flaw in logic.

From wiki:

Hispanic America (the region comprising the Spanish-speaking nations in the Americas) has total population of 376 million.

Spain has population of 46 million.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain

So, we can say that on average 8 times more Spanish speaking people live in the countries from Americas.

Now we assume on average people from Spain and from Americas like GW2 equally. We also assume Spanish speaking people will mostly play GW2 with Spanish language setting, and they most likely want to join Spanish WvW server.

The 8 times more people in Americas is very much different number from 3% you claim. Even if we consider players from Americas may play in NA servers, or play in other EU servers, or use English settings. I am willing to lower the numbers from 8:1 to 1:1 but it would still mean about 50% of BB is from those countries in Americas.

And I am not even considering Spanish speaking players from US. Or other countries around the world.

I am not saying I am right and this is correct, I just look at the numbers. Where you think I made mistake and it turns out to be 3% instead?

But Fog, PPT is generally also a matter of having the most population, so what’s the difference? Server with most coverage is guaranteed to win, because they will be capping everything while other servers are weaker in numbers. Example: my current match-up (Deso/Elona/Riverside). During primetime Desolation ticks for max 300, usually around 200-250. Then in the offhours 5am it ticks 600. That has everything to do with having more population at that time.

Sure but consider options from one player point-of-view. Without PPT you are left with 2 options: go and fight enemy that is outnumbering you, so you die and enemy increases PPK. Or quit.

What PPT provides, is third option. While you may not be able to battle enemy face to face, you can still avoid them and take objectives somewhere else, increasing your server score. You can outsmart the enemy by not fighting them when you have no chance of winning. And you still help your server.

For a match result this may look like same thing (and yea, server with more people will and should win most matches), but for each player it is huge difference.

I think you guys should not get stuck on the term “nightcapping”. This basically means timeframe when one server has very little or no enemies to fight and they take over all the maps without fighting anyone. It could happen same way in the morning. Or during the day. It just happens that most players go to sleep at night so the term has been used to describe situation.

The proposed changes have been about increasing the points you earn while you are fighting enemies. Honestly, when you capture heavily defended objective against active enemy group, you should earn more points because it simply takes longer and it also requires more effort. Same way, when there are no enemies on the map, your passive tick should be reduced because there is nobody to challenge any of the objectives.

The proposed change is basically about making sure passive PvE portion of points is reduced and PvP portion (more enemies = more points) is increased. It is not even tied to the specific timeframe, but mostly to the fact that WvW without enemies to fight is not fun.

The problem with huge off-hours population has been quite obvious in several EU matches where strong nightcrews push server rating up into higher tier where their prime time population is unable to compete against much more numerous enemy forces. The result is that match is ruined for 3 servers, the one with strong off-hour crew (as they get overrun during prime time) and also both their enemies who have nobody to fight.

Team chat is not required ofc, you can still play without it. But as it is nicely placed within QoL option, it is something that helps you slightly more enjoying the game. The way I see it (and I did vote for scoring fix without even hesitating), team chat is helping to find enemies faster and get into fights quicker without wondering around the maps looking for them. Small things like that make the game more enjoyable.

Yeah, I think the changes have been good for the WvW and I will continue to fight for these changes (they can be improved or changed obviously). Sure, no change can please everyone same way, but in this case I strongly believe it is improving whole WvW, and it is not only about me.

I still would like to hear how you would fix the WvW without linking the servers. Even if it is just a vague idea.

As Ellieanna explained, all PvE maps include players from every server (NA and EU are separate). Most low population PvE maps only have 1 instance, meaning these are the players from every server in this map. World Boss events, HoT maps and SW usually have multiple instances of same map where players from many servers are together in one instance and other players from same servers are in another instance of same map.

Please make is possible for a player to choose if they want to do HoT or regular dailies for PvE. Not all of us who own HoT have had the time to fully explore it, making some content inaccessible (including, again, today, and pretty much every day since the update went live). Some of us would also prefer to be able to do dailies with friends who don’t own HoT at all yet. It’s a social thing.

I think you are missing the point of why dailies exist. It is not simply to give everyone extra 2g for logging into the game, but to push players try out new parts of the game they have not yet discovered. Maybe the joined WvW first time to finish daily there, they could very well fell in love with it. Maybe they do not even know JP exist, but now there is daily to point it out.

New proposed accross-the-maps-team chat would be special channel for everyone in your server, no matter which WvW map they are currently on. It would replace current, completely pointless, team chat.

You would then have map channel – players in your server in same map.
And team channel – every player in your server, in all 4 maps.

It would not change what enemies can see.

As such, may I point that you have also pointed out that many similar threads have propped up. Surely this shows that the server merge HAS caused issues. I don’t think that you can speak for every person in the lower tiers or “dead” servers that this server merge is a good idea.

Absolutely. Linking has issues. Some links could be changed for example, I am sure.

I am not trying to speak for everyone, and yet, I have seen so many happy players in the WvW during this beta, none of them btw ever posting in forums, that I feel their excitement and enjoyment should not be overlooked either.

Also, people usually do not bother to post about stuff they like. They commonly only come to forum to complain about things they do not like (well, for example, you). Is the 10 unhappy players posting against the linking a sign that idea is bad? Or perhaps we should consider hundreds and thousands of players logging into WvW every day, playing it for many hours straight, never even considering to complain about the change?

1. In terms of defense, I think there should be increasing buffs for periods of time that each are held. For example, for every hour that a tower is held, it will apply a stacking +5 to all stats buff (including % magic find), with a maximum of +50. For every hour that a keep is held, it will apply a stacking +10 to all stats buff (including % magic find), with a maximum of +100. For every hour that SMC is held, it will apply a stacking +10 to all stats buff, with no maximum.

As far I can understand this would just have same the effect as upgrading the objective. Tiers do basically same thing, make objective more difficult to capture. We already had objectives upgrading purely based on time and it was complete disaster. Every morning you join the game to see fully upgraded enemy keeps in every map, it was horrible.

Even now, smaller groups avoid higher tier objectives because of time it takes to capture those. You just want to these things even more difficult to take. Why? Why would simply holding SM increase all your stats when even now it is near impossible to take it when someone bothers to defend?

I know, you propose higher drop rate too for attackers, and yet, do you actually care what the drop rate is in WvW? I just ran around for little while yesterday, only to discover my inv was already full (yep, I got ascended armor box!). Stuff already appears from everywhere, reward tracks, ranks, capture and defend events, killing enemies. I honestly do not know what my magic drop rate even is or what it could be.

I understand the idea how having map filled with players from 1 side only is boring for everyone. yet, I am not sure if blocking the players will help, mostly because maps are huge and when you start to lower population because there is less people from one server, there will be now also less people from other server and then third server, and eventually whole map is much more emptier compared to current situation.

The best solution I have seen so far would be increase current Objective Guild Auras boons based on number of enemies/defenders around the objective. Yes, you would still probably run over the defenders with much larger force but it would be more difficult and take longer. But same time, in next objective, numbers could be opposite.

Day capping is the same issue when most of the population is at school or work.

It needs to be scaled relative to the size of the enemy.

Fairly sure that is what Anet means when they say “nightcapping”. The term is simply known well enough instead of giving lengthy explanation of “period of time when player activity from enemy server is lower then average”.

Not important if it is night or day. Important part is that more points should be awarded when more enemies are on the map and less points when no enemies are around to fight you.

I believe he is referring to just the ebg queue, not all maps. If you are with a server that is highly populated already then, yes, all maps may be queued and you will have to wait.
BUT, if only ebg is queued, some people will happily go to alpine bl to play all night vs going to dbl just to waste time waiting for the ebg queue to end. Get it?

1 – EB had queues before HoT too.
2 – BL maps are full of people already playing all night

To me it sounds like he was just complaining because he likes to complain, it was bad earlier and it is bad now too. Get it?

Some Thoughts On World Linking

I have not yet experienced skill lag outside EB without large 3-way fights. This means 2 possible reasons for it:

1. EB map itself has some problems that cause server not being handle the battles.
2. Server simply can not handle battles with more then X number of players.

Only 2 solutions exist to get rid of this. Either emove or redesign EB map if it is the cause. Or reduce player cap per map (it would actually mean increase number of available maps but reduce their size).

PPK has to be an important thing, sorry. Everything else should be secondary.

To reduce whole WvW into PPK would be extremely silly. PPK is based on population, you could as well give up any scoring and simply reward most populated server with first place. It would be, in 1 word, boring.

PPK also assumes there is always enemy to fight. Have you considered situation where there is not? What will players do when they show up and they have nothing to do? They quit.

Whole PvE aspect of WvW is what makes possible to fight back when you have less players. It is what keeps the WvW interesting and unpredictable because winning or losing is not just about bringing more people and running over the enemy.

I have seen these threads pop up several times now and they always bother me. I do not want to insult anyone if they try to explain their feelings but it basically boils down to this:

Most of these low population dead servers were not dead some time ago. People left, stopped playing or lost interest in WvW, and while some also like to jump between servers, many do not. I never have, and have no plans to transfer. And I know many players in my low population server who feel exactly same.

The problem is, the last tiers are not fun. It is not fun to be in the dead server and it is not fun to fight one either. WvW is about having enemies and when there is none, it stops being WvW. I understand that some people may like the emptiness and lack of enemies, and yet, I strongly feel that most players prefer actual fights, actual enemies instead of NPCs.

And while you are explaining here how much you enjoy being in dead server, try, even for a moment, to think about all those players who have quit the game because only reason to play – WvW is so stupidly boring they can’t be bothered anymore. I know many players trying this changed WvW right now after being away from the game, and many more just planning to return. Countless players have left the game because there is nothing to do in WvW, because scores do not matter, because winning or losing the match is same result.

Now, after years of waiting, we have a chance to fix these problems. And you guys, instead of being happy too about the gamemode we all love so much, start to complain against any improvements. It just blows my mind. It really does. Just because you want something, everyone else has to suffer too. It’s just extremely selfish.

And on top of that all, you do not even propose any other solutions. You just complain that all the change is bad and try to lie about how everyone loved their dead servers. No, everyone hated it! Everyone suffered for a long time and many left in the end. Again, there are obviously small number of players used to empty server matches, but it does not make you more special then many more players who actually want to fight and want to have meaningful matches and want to see enemies more then once a week. What exactly do you wish Anet would do? Nothing? Just keep the system going on for many more years until there is only you and 2 more players left in whole WvW?

Some people like big fights in open areas, other likes siege wars and capturing objectives. They both make up large part of WvW and many players like to do one or other (or both). Just because you only like one thing, does not mean everyone else does. Removing one part from WvW completely would not make better game, it would just be less game.

The amount of ascended mats received from killing lords is either too high or needs to be addressed in some way. I have thousands of these mats just taking up valuable bank space with no way to get rid of them other than to craft them or destroy them. Adding Princess was a nice touch, but it only eats one type of ascended mats.

I used to have that problem too, but not anymore. My setup:

Princess uses dragonite ore.
Star of Gratitude uses empyreal fragments.
Herta uses bloodstone dust.

I usually do some low level map completion at the morning (and WvW raids on prime time) but I have not noticed maps being empty. They are not “full” of people, except daily event map, yet there are players spread around everywhere.

Red is really easy to get as there are most players around running the dollies in. If you want others, tag up, tell everyone in the chat that you are attempting for Leg and there are usually people who will help you with the keep.

Yea but if you look at other EU matches this week, we are not even doing that badly against FSP.

Tier 1 is pretty close, and in Tier 6 both Viz and Drakkar can win it. But our match is next. The matches with Deso, Piken and Abaddon are all much more skewed.

But sure, let’s hope we get actually winnable opponets next match. Based on current standings, we should face Viz and Dz.

We just did full DH event in Gunnar’s Hold (50+ DH running around in the big zerg), and it was great success. We wiped enemy blobs created with “normal” class balance many times. Returning to DH, is it useless now because TS nerf? No.
Are there more skills or traits that could be nerfed? Yes.

As long half the WvW group is made from DH they remain OP.
