Changing pace?
I have 2 “mains” and an “extra”. There are days that i feel like playing ele (aka, tribulation mode), some days I like to take it easy on dungeons such as Arah so I bring my guardian. Sometimes Im asked by the guild to be a veil/portal bot in WvW or guild missions.
Its all about styles and mood. I used to play a single character, for about more than a year, but once you create an alt you just cant stop, your horizons expand, perhaps it is something you have to experience yourself to understand.

Since never. My guess? it was probably wearing torch, had the runes that stealth you at 10%, decoy, Mass invisibility elite, and that trait that give 1 extra second of stealth, but even if you try to, you simply cant have more stealth than a thief, because thieves can literally have perma stealth but mesmer have really long downtime for theirs.
So it was all perceived, even if you really want, you just cant spam stealth. Hope that helps

Usually it doesnt take more than a business day, so dont worry, they will get to you rather quickly (customer support here is good) but in case that more than 48 hours have passed (remember, business day) and they havent responded, ther eis a thread that you can put your ticket number and a dev will personally see to it.
As for the problem itself, I think i remember reading somewhere that the reason that happened sometimes is because you gain the achievement in an instance, which make sit bug out. Log in into an open field and relog several times, it could fix it.

It should be there, are you sure you have every single thing though Most people miss the interest point in Blood coast by the order of whispers. If you got everything though, then submit a support ticket. The reward should’ve arrived as a coffer (like the daily) which contained the 2 gifts, trust me, there is no way to screw that up.

Old name, isnt even mine, I was playing some obscure MMO where you could buy characters, and I’ve always hated leveling, that game was beyond boring to level up, so I bought myself some nice mid level character. It had this name, I liked it.
After that I looked it up, turns out it stands for “he who is strong” so ever since then it has been my namer tag. TUrns out somebody had picked the name already though, but not the username, until this day I still look for he who owns the name so I can claim it mine.

We’re talking exactly about that. I had the same view as you, but with the vigor nerf and nerf to infiltrator’s return, we’re running out of options for no-stealth builds. Sword simply won’t be viable after December 10th. Period. If you like playing builds which are free kills for any decent player, be my guest. Any decent thief will be conforming to what we’re pigeonholed into and master the kitten out of it, and decent players still won’t know how to deal with it. This is a very skill based game. If you want to tell me exactly how a fight will go, baffle me with bullkitten.
I think you are exaggerating a little bit here, if you want to know the true meaning of unviable I recommend you to play elementalists for a bit, then you will realize how bad it is to have 0 viable builds and one that is somehow half effective, and only at killing stuff, because, unlike thieves, eles cant just stroll away with stealth when things go awry, so eles die in a blink after they unload their stuff (which mind you, has about 4x times the CD of any good thief skill).
Thieves will still be incredibly strong, they are merely nerfing stealth, and they even brought some of those changes coming on Dec 10 back, you took a 2 seconds nerf off 14 seconds I believe, thats nothing compared to eles which got 6 from 10, and the only way to get that buff was with 90 seconds CD skills……pretty much uncalled for if you ask me. No class in the game has to do the biggest sacrifices for some benefices than an ele.
Like I said, bad thieves will be the ones that wont be able to adapt, bad thieves were already the ones relying on stealth, and thats a good riddance, and to make it even worse, some theory crafter on the forum was saying that now you can still get nearly 95% stealth upkeep, you will excuse me, but thats still pretty much OP, so please stop the pity train already, nobody is buying it. Want to self pity? Play eles
This is laughable. I have an 80 ele who uses s/d, and it’s plenty viable.
I have an lol 80 thief and i think they are fine and will be fine after patch

You see, Im disgusted with playing races other than Sylvari. I have created characters to lvl 80, spend around 50 laurels on them, and then had to delete them, because I couldnt bear the thought of being something other than sylvari, specially humans, which are disgusting to play in a so rich fantasy game, in fact, seeing humans kill my immersion. Nasty creatures who can only represent people’s lack of imagination; to come play a fantasy game and be such a boring, disgusting and dull race.

My damage vomit warrior gets kill shots for over 10k (recently got a 17k in hot join) and arcing arrows aoe for up to 9k which is far harder hitting than my thief can hope for. Plus my teammates can stealth him for extra lulz.
As a main thief, however, I can definitely say that thieves are EXTREMELY effective at pushing other glass cannons out of the meta. There is far too much risk in running such a build when you can get bursted down out of nowhere. However this is more a problem with teleporting around than stealth or DPS potential.
Edit: communication is a surprisingly effective counter to glass thieves, since they do rely on getting that first hit free
the problem comes from the fact that usually it isnt only the first hit, but also the second hit, and the third, and the fourth, and the last if so they desire.
there is no catching up to a thief that wants to get away (same for warriors), there is no first hit on a thief that has at least some basic awareness of their surroundings, and that is whats wrong.

At the present time I count roughly 10 threads in the front page of the thief forum talking nerfs, or wondering about if people will continue playing the class after Dec 10, or asking how to adjust to the coming changes that destroy existing builds. I see nothing comparable anywhere else, and certainly not the warrior forum.
I’d be fine with what ATMAvatar suggested. But they always seem to reduce the viability of the class without providing anything new to replace what they remove.
Lets be honest here, most of those thieves picked up the class knowing how OP strong it is currently, the only thing they are crying about is that a toxic aspect they so much enjoy is getting slightly disturbed. I can guarantee you that if you roll all the way back 9 months ago, when the first tweaks to stealth started , that the entire frum was plaged with “OMG IM QUITTING THE GAME” , “YOU BROKE THE CLASS”, “GG, NERFED INTO UNVIABLE” and bunch of threads like that, but here we are, still more than a year since release and they are as strong as always. It takes time to adapt, msot thieves dont even know how to survive outside stealth because they lack the necessary skills to even do the most basic; press dodge or a button for teleports (not even exaggerating here, apparently).
I can assure you that after stealth and backstab get finally reworked into something that isnt toxic and requires risk and rewards, the class will be fine. Like I said, ignore those people, they simply want an “easy button”, just like warriors. The reputation of any PvP esport rides solely on its balance, once we get those 2 classes in line, and we bring eles up to par with the rest of the classes, the game will see some nice attention,

Nobody is “crying” about anything, the sooner you realize that the better off we will all be. It is true that this game has a lot of toxic elements, backstab and stealth being two of them, backstab being the worse, or just about any high hitting spell that comes out of stealth every 4 secnds, THAT is toxic, and as you mentioned, what do all those game that you mentioned have in common? They succeeded? Want to know why? because they created an atmosphere that was as little toxic as possible, so the fact that you even mentioned only validate our point even more.

Yes warriors won, but thats because their synergy and lack of weakness, they can literally take any role in a team, whereas thieves not so much. Still nonetheless, I have mentioned this a bunch of times; it isnt about thieves can win games easily, but rather the poor experience they bring both to the player and the enemy. Stealth and backstab need so heavy rework if they want to make thieves less toxic.

…. By many players it was being used to grant some initiative when going into stealth. However there were some abusive builds that were using this to maintain very long stealth uptime without having to use their utility skills. The problem with this is that it lets them recharge those skills while in stealth, which takes away the risk associated with using them. We are ok with thieves blowing their cooldowns to have longer stealth, and we are ok with theives bouncing in and out of stealth, but we were not ok with thieves maintaining long duration stealth through abusing a single trait.
…Devs have already stated that perma stealth is a cheap abuse on the thief gameplay, and will thus be changed.
I would be the happiest if we eliminated the backstab BS too, I would even dare to say that coming out of stealth should have a 1 second damage penalty of about 50%

I run a full burst D/D spec and my backstabs generally only crit for 6-8k. You’re sorely mistaken if you think that we can hit you for over 10k if you have even remotely close to full exotic armor.

If you have a ranged weapon and cant switch out of it (elementalist) then you are screwed, right? Further more, the thief is dumb enough to stay around melee range for 3-4 autoattacks instead of coming in quickly and doing their nice 14-16k Backstab…..sounds about right?
Im sorry but thats just a pathetic excuse to stealth currently, if the thief decides to run away there is no way a #1 will stop that. If a thief decides to come in quickly instead of hanging around you for 3 seconds then thats tactic is useless. How about you play other classes that dont need to relay in a cheap mechanic such as stealth, specialy in game where it has been done virtually uncounterable and that gives a lot more benefices besides the already strong invisibility?
Only bad thieves (most of them apparently) die to these cheap tactics. And I dont think that even if they were to somehow be effective, that these are the right way to approach this problem. How about we get some real counterplay here, like say, hard CC can know a thief out of stealth after a 1 second grace? Sounds like something that could lend to skillful plays

Thieves need other ways of defense that doesnt involve being annoying, and imho they already are ok without constant stealth since they have a LOT of teleports and evades, but if needed, increase them. The class is supposed to be an acrobat, not a jehovas witness at 9am on a Sunday at your door

i simply posted that video from WvW because i already had it saved and didnt want to bother to find one on youtube on sPvP, but you are free to look the thousand of them up. Backstab still hits anywhere between 8k-10k in sPvP, if you are at 80% or lower thats a death sentence, and there is very little you can do about it

Im not going to be biased since I dont think that having 4 characters and all of them being sylvari could influence my response, but here it goes anyways;
Sylvari is your best option.
Why you ask? Well, we are the ultimate race when it comes to battles; we are born adults, sentient, fully educated, ready to fight, with a purpose, we can be produced in masses yet each one is truly unique! We glow at night, we have the prettiest zones,the best music, the best lore.
Reasons why you should NOT pick humans/norns: they are boring, not boring in the sense of boring, but whats the point of playing a fantasy rich game and be a boring …human…… norns are just overgrown, alcoholic, disfigured humans.
Charrs are acceptable, but Im still not very convinced about them specially after Ascalon..

I think the open world environments in this game are as fantastic as they are underutilized, and i would love to duel people in them.
I understand the reasons people are against dueling. But frankly, I don’t think those reasons hold enough weight to justify advocating against dueling.
-Duel request spams
-Duel combat interfering with normal play
-The “atmosphere” created around a new way to compete or a competitive environment in general.I see and understand that those may be issues, but i don’t think they are significant enough. It’s basically potential flaws people find in the implementation of dueling and then exaggerate the impact it will have on their personal well-being in the game.
Suck it up and don’t duel if you don’t want to. Plenty of other people want to duel and take no issue with the fact you don’t want to duel.

I would love WvW ranks to be account wide too.
Just keep a running total of the number of points earned, but each character has their own ability track. This allows all characters on an account to earn progress and XP, but players can specialise each of their characters in different roles.

But I can already imagine people going like; " but that will force me to have several alts to be able to keep up with the ’competition’", thats why we cant have nice things, and this is coming from a guy that has only 3 characters, but uses 1 per month until it gets boring and rotates to the next one

I dont know what bug you speak of, but I prefer 8v8 in hotjoins because more people = better as long as it isnt a zerg.
In a 5v5, 1v1, 2v1 or 2v2 are predominant, more so in ranked matches. Sure I love playing small scale scenarios, but I happen to play the critter elementalist profession so i cant afford to be shut down easily. I go to sPvP to fight people, not seeing people is not fun, seeing people IS fun.
If I want small scale scenarios then all I need to do is tournaments, if I want big bloby lag fests I go to WvW, if I want small fight scenarios with a respectable amount of people I go hotjoin. I will be really sad if this goes away….. leave the ranked as 5v5 if anything…

My apologies, man, wasnt trying to be rude of anything, Im just stating that stealth is currently wacko. And yes, and actually do agree with you about thieves survival. In fact, I wouldnt take more than 1 in sPvP or more than a couple for WvW since they bring little to nothing in both PvP and in dungeons (except maybe Arah or the old F/U TA path). I actually want them to have something going on for them that didnt involve been obnoxious, and backstab NEEDS to go away as it currently stands.
Im not saying thieves are OP, all I saying is that they got 2 OP mechanics that are holding them back from getting the help they need in other areas. (think of it as a toxic virus, not very useful outside killing people in a war, but if tweaked, if you remove the ‘toxic’ part and give it another DNA configuration, you can now use that same virus for good purposes, like genetic surgery to cure people with leukemia or other genetic problems. But we need to first remove the toxic part!!!)

Backstab should be balanced because you can do it from stealth. If you could see the thief and the skill animation i believe it would be fine. But thats not the case.

People argue that scepter ele has more burst, but I would gladly give up all my cantrips in exchange for all the stealth thieves have. Setting up a one-hit killer without being able to be interrupted, seen or gotten out of? yes please!

true for any class that specs high dps glass cannon. most thieves choose that spec then wonder why they can’t survive. other classes have it far worse. thieves aren’t especially vulnerable, sorry.

But I’d still say that a thief is vulnerable even without the glass cannon build. My thief is mostly dire/sentinel in stats, so she has good defense for a thief. But in an even fight, my berzerker mesmer still has better overall survivability. (Yes, there’s still the factors that I’m better as mesmer than thief, and my mesmer has more exotic gear too). But even a thief that doesn’t focus on damage can still be vulnerable. I admit I’m not a great thief, but I’d like to think I’m okay. :P
I really wish people would stop piling all this hate on stealth. I’m betting most of it is coming from ‘perma-stealth’ thieves, which the devs already said they wanted to change.
my biggest gripe with stealth isnt so much itself, but rather all the bad things that come with it.
It is okay to use it smartly (example, mesmers, long CD, casting time, but can really save your butt if used right, but if you use it in the middle of the fight and attack right after that, you wasted it). It is okay to scape by the teeth everynow and then, but at the expense of high CD. It is NOT okay to use stealth everytime it is available to escape all the fights.
The other one is backstab. I have seen videos of a thief without might stacks, only food and self buffs hit 12-14k, Im not even kidding you, I wish I was, either way, he was hitting 10-12k nomally. You know what the base health of guardians and eles is? 10k, literally a one shot, every 4 seconds, cannot be blocked, doesnt have a telegraphed animation, thieves can catch up to you easily with teleport/HS/more teleports/swiftness on stealth, so you cant see it, cant outrun it, cant protect agaisnt it, cant time it, basically you are naked in the dark, simply waiting to be one shot.
Yeah, as a guardian I have an easier time since I can just GS#5 and that usually scares them when followed by #4 and #3, but even those skills have bigger CD than stealth, so if I dont kill them by then (and god forbids they are smart and instead of being close the stay away until some CC and AoEs are used) then it is a guaranteed death.
There is no counterplay there, there is no fun on the receiving end, there is no fun of the giving end because at the point in which you become good, you realize how easy it is. Im lazy to find it now, but there is this good thief player playing S/D, going agaisnt good players, 3v1, and winning…… that tells worlds about the class…..

I used to hate fighting thieves with my mesmer – they were the only class that gave me problems.
So what did I do? I rolled a thief, learned its strengths and weaknesses, and incorporated that knowledge into my play style. Now I can kill thieves.
If a thief stealths and runs off I usually don’t bother following after them. I know by then that they’re too far to chase. But they don’t ‘rofl-STOMP’ anymore. A thief’s ability to flee from a fight they can’t win is one of their greatest advantages. They need that, because fighting as a thief can very quickly shift in and out of their favor. Most classes (I’m assuming here) can gauge if they’re winning or losing. For thieves, it’s pretty haphazard.

Its pointless, man. No matter how many times you tell them, they will somehow believe the are the most vulnerable class in the game, the red-headed child of ANet, all this while thieves were all over the place in the last competitions. What did eles have to show? A big zero at MLG and nearly none at the one after that.
I can bet you this guy has not played zerker ele, I guarantee you that if he wasnt lying about being a mesmer who “rolled temporarily” a thief (and not the way around) that the moment he rolls zerker ele and take it anywhere that isnt behind a zerg in WvW with staff, he will know the true definition of critter vulnerability

Yah Im aware that soon this thread will be killed at the suggestion graveyard but my hopes is to take the message to the people that still care about this, that there still [plenty] people fighting for amazing duels in amazing places with our amazing stats and armors. Your contribution to it does more than you think. Highly subjective. I can see by the staves you picked that you love “dark” themes, most likely a necro player. Personally I find those staves highly overrated, gloomy and I cant imagine a “holy” guardian wearing any of those awful deathsticks. Dont get my wrong, I like the skins, just not the theme.
Best staves are those with particles;
Kasmeer, Bifrost, Melandru, Zenith.
You see, when you play a “mage” class like eles or mesmers you need an equally flashy weapon.

Duelling in open world?
No please not. I have played games that have this and I left those games just for that. It is childish and totally boring games played by lil boys that try to have a peeing contest. Yes I know you can decline, but that results in them chasing you around and shouting in mapchat/local chat what a chicken you are. even if you have it unticked, they do that.I know that there are very adult people who like to duel and do it in a respectfull way, but those lil kids have 100% ruined it too many times to have any trust it will be better in GW2. The day it would be implemented I would leave the game I love a lot.
If you are want to have an option to duel amongst guildmates in a guildhall. Then my answer would be why not.
Well man, Im sorry to say this but, I think you just had some really bad experiences and are just generalizing. I have played plenty of MMOs that have had duels and never did I have this issue. They are bothering you in all-chat? Report, ignore and move on. They wont stop? Childish? I dont know, man, thats like….your opinion. I find duels just another integral part of an MMO with interacting players, like I seriously cant find anything childish in a duel, if anything, back then, duels were something “real tough men” would do to settle their issues, I dont know how it evolve as childish to you. I recommend you surround yourself with better friends because I have not seen that kind of behavior in this community.
And please, dont “threat” us all by saying you will be leaving. You are in fact (i bet to say) a minority that doesnt want this implemented, and we know we cant catter to everyone no matter what we do. It is just a matter to getting used to it. If the implementation of a much-needed social function is enough to make you quit the game, then perhaps you are already staying for the wrong reasons
This goes to all the LFG tool ‘haters’ before it was implemented: “not necessary, will lead to trolling, kills immersion….blabla [insert another non-factual excuse here]”
Like I said, I seriously cant see a drawback to this

try an engineer wich has medium armor and see if you can dish out same damage as thief without dying half as often

Thief players only say their survival is bad because they are squishy and AoE hurt them, but I would drop my 90 seconds cantrip CD any day for near-invincibility invisibility on rotation that has no downtime if done correctly. A yep, eles and thieves have the same health pool.

Im fine with it, either way people already was doing lvl 8, 18, 28 and maybe 38. Fractrals already take forever, I dont know anyone in their sane mind (or with a job, studies or a ‘life’) that can do that entire rotation twice or thrice in a day!

Basically really simple;
Introduce open world dueling (something that imho should have been since day one) and give people the option to check a box that says:
[x] Automatically reject any duels.
No, I dont want to go to sPvP to fight with sPvP gear, stat combination, no foods, limited stats limits, no runes, no good-looking gear and weapons I worked really hard to get, with prefixed stats. I want to fight in the open world at the feet of the defeated Jormag, or in Queensdale, or on top of the defeat Golem.
Simple really, dont like duels, check the box! Fear it will kill the immersion? Well, Im sure pink quaggan backpacks are quite immersing, in a world of world-eating Dragons….. I mean, wouldnt you rather have people training with each other to strengthen each other out for the future , in which you will be fighting shoulder to shoulder with? Would you rather watch them march into battle with a pink backpack or a sharp sword?!

Getting REALLY tired of these responses everytime dueling is brought up!
When will people realize that sPvP gear, stats, stats combinations =/= PvE gear, stats combinations, food, runes, STATS, STATS STATS.
I wish I could duel people, period. I want to duel them outside CoF, outside of Arah, in Queensdale, in Frostgorge, or just about anywhere I find someone who doesnt have their “do not duel me” tag unchecked!
Is that too much ask…… from a MMO?! Something that has been in every. single. MMO. outthere!! It still baffles me why we still dont have this!
We already have “instrument volume”, just add a box for those who dont want to duel;
“automatically reject any duels”

RNG will be RNG. Unfair, I know, trust me…….. truly unfair, 1700 hours in the game, I just got 2 precursors in a week, The Energizer and Chaos Gun, while guild mates have 2000+ hours and have nothing to show for it.
Am I mad? Yes and no. sure i LOVE the precursor drops which helped me finish my legendary in a day, but at the same time I still loath RNG.
Luckily we seem to be starting to move away from RNG a bit with recent changes, lets see how it goes.

It would mean another reset… or the unification of all characters’ ranks into one account bar, a bit how it happened with the wallet.
This is however unlikely to happen because of rank points given to learn WvW traits.
Skills can be kept, points gained would go to a “wallet”, you can use it on any character you like. There solved both issues.
All I want is to have my poor ranks distributed among all characters under one same banner.
But Im more concerned about Legendaries tbh, same for dungeon story mode (except Arah). I have done story mode on 2 characters already and cant imagine doing it all over again for my third one…. I mean, they already share the “Dungeon Master” tittle, right?

Should we be expecting the same treatment for ranks in WvW and Legendaries?
Sure its a little bit different, but Im noticing the [awesome and great] trend of making unnecesarily-soulbound things into the should’ve-been-accountbound-since-release stuff.
I mean, maybe not so much for legendaries since Anet can make a profit out of it, but as a guy who is constantly flipping characters every 2 weeks I would sure LOVE if these stuff were to be account bound!

@Topic, ok, in order to prevent this response to be too long and have the issues that….ironically, are being discussed I will add my contribution (while the thread is readable on its first 1 page, nobody bothers beyond that, if they even bother to read it to begin with)
First of all I would include these things;
-Make a topic, and lock it for 2 days.
It will allow for people to make “cooled down” comments rather than hot-on-the-spot and unnecesarily long comments. I cant stress how important this is; When people think about something for some time, they “cool-down” and can have better, more civilized feedbacks.
-Reduce the amount of words of a comment, per thread. ONLY for these discussion threads
300-500 word limit, only one response per thread per day, or something like that. Lets face it, nobody wants to read a wall of text, I even think it twice before reading a (100+) one. The reason for one comment per day is; whats the point of limiting the words if the person can just simply make 5 comments about it. It will force pople to not go around the topic, and to make it directly to the point
IM SORRY! This is a wall of text!, the very same thing Im agaisnt!
PD: Lastly, if you are “liking” an idea, LET US KNOW! We can focus on it and let you know about our feedback on said idea, and know how you think like; example:
