Currently Im at work so I wont be able to check that ingame, but even if it showed it on the chat, I will not resort to cheap cheats for “feedback” when I use the chat. Not only will I not have the combat log open for a fight, but in a fight of 3-4 people, damage is going both ways, and it is really hard to keep track of those things, specially since skills that hit multiple times display multiples feedbacks, not counting different damage sources on top of your own damage. I wont scroll 3 pages worth of chat to see if my random AoE hit the thief or not, so thats a silly counterargument of yours.

Eles can stealth for a few seconds underwater, not sure why that’s relevant.
I was just wondering, i cant test myself either. Sense you’re so adamant about stealth changes i assumed you were also educated in all that is stealth as well. Looks like i made an kitten outa u and me, lol.

Im glad this is getting implemented ingame! Loved the trailer, have rewatched it 5 times already and I dont even do fractals that much! (rewards have always been beyond horrible so I didnt bother with them, and probably wont bother past “experiencing” the new contents…. AC 1/3, SE 1/3, CoF1, HoTW1 can be done in a string in an hour or so and gives me around 10 gold, so it is a no-brainer for people like me who want to see their time worth ingame gold, so it is a real shame :/ , because even though it says new rewards, I bet the chances for anything to drop there are as slim as precursors, and I have never gotten a fractal skin, not even one that I cant use)
Im looking forward to more changes!!!

Yep, someone else does need a stupidity check too….. Ever heard of AoE CC? AoE Damage? Some classes have untargetted CC, if said class “knew” the exact location of said thief and skillflly casted the CC skill (think of Mesmer GS #5, small cone, small radius, long CD, a waste to use wrongly) and that skill conected, the player should be rewarded. Perhaps there should be a “grace period” of maybe 1 second in which the thief will not get affected by this. Same for damage; 10%-20% maximun health taken as damage reveals them after the “grace period”. Use your common sense, man.

I highly doubt anything will happen, sorry, it might be best if you moved on. In any case, we might be hearing only one side of the story, perhaps they had a reason to kick you, perhaps not. This happens more in Arah, sicne it is a longer dungeon and easier to do wrong, so thats why they sell spots, but i have never hear of anyone selling spots on CoE, so like I said, even if it was a guild kick, Anet cant do anything about it.
Sorry pal, the sooner you realize Anet doesnt care about these issues, the better it will be for your mental care.

As an old staff ele main, let me tell you a about them;
Staff ele is probably one of the most enjoyable things you can do in the game, with that being said, while enjoyable you also have to take into considerations what they bring. In dungeons, FGS is probably the best boss melter in the game if it is one of thsoe bosses that can be stacked agaisnt a wall, other than that, a mesmer will be outdoing a ele any day, any way. Mesmers have lots of good points to their advantage to support which doesnt really need to be respecced as much as ele. For eles to be able to bring conditions cleansing for the team, you have to give up a lot of points in water (30) and the only way to cleanse conditions that doesnt require this has a 40 secs CD. Meanwhile mesmers have mantras and even clones for this which are even getting buffed.
Same goes with reflections. Mesmers have access to the most reflection in the game, coupled with one of the highest damage in the game and utility for the entire party such as invisibility for bypassing stuff, doubling buffs and group stability, makes mesmers the almost-universal-must-have-class in any team. While eles are pretty much restricted to AC and CoE for the most part.
Dont get me wrong, for pug dungeons both do fine, but for organized parties mesmers make up for an almost indispensable asset.
As for WvW, depends on what you want. Both got group utility, but different ones; eles go plenty of fields like water and fire. Water is amazing for blasting it at doors for the siege comrades, fire fields for might stacking before a fight, you can also put a fire or ice field in between your zerg and the enemy zerg and projectiles will burn and chill. Mesmers give veils and portals, can bypass bad parts of the game and can provide for ethereal fields which projectiles can use to give health back to its users. Eles can siege walls quite well, something mesmers cant do all that well. It all boils down to what you want to do.

I run almost the same build except that I have 10/0/30/25/5
It adds protection and an extra 10% as opposed to your extra healing on GS. I used to run that 20/xxxxx thing too but I realized that extra 5% GS is not worth, specially considering I can get 10% on both hammer and GS by simply dodging, which ehals me and either wya I alwyas have vigor. Also, when you activate virtues you get protection/regeneration/might for you AND all your party members, which is a giant plus!

Personally I’ve always like the “knight in white shiny armor” archetype, in fact my guardian has celestial dye with Sunrise/Genesis, radiant shoulder/bracelet and white air zephirite helmet, rest is something in between Inquest and TA set. I understand some people like the “evil” archetype with spikes and dull black tones but thats not my style, in fact, one of the main reasons I picked guardians was because I was conviced I would be able to get this look and playstyle with them.
I have also seen plenty of “dark” guardians and I dont condemn people’s choice, but I believe playing a guardian and going “dark” style is a true waste, might as well go warrior or necro if you wanted that. But then again, the class mechanics matter in people’s playstyle so…..
If you like Twlight better, then go for it, but let me tell you something: Twilight only has 2 colors, black and red, and thats about it, very little options of colors for matching armors and you will get very bored of it quickly. The autoattack seems like the markings you leave when you erase something badly, like oil, nothing else to it. Whereas Sunrise has all colors, and you can get certain colors you want by moving the camera angle. Each movement has a different color, the theme is warm, calid, cozy, nice to look at, relaxing, but at the same time pressing if you look from above. I might be biased since I have a Sunrise, but this is the same line of thought I had before I had the sword.
its really up to you, but I do want to warn you though, all my guild mesmers that have gotten a wlight have gotten very bored of it, and are starting to hate it in some cases. Mostof them quickly upgrade it to Eternity or stay with Sunrise after they get it.

Do you really think 20% magic find when the passive account-bound cap is 300% is really going to do much? Even the Gilded Infusion likely brings in more income.
I still have the MF infusion on my Ranger since it was my de-facto grind character, but since I’ve been maining a Warrior since the last three months or so, she’s been running karmic simply because karma has alot of uses and at the end of the day also converts to gold better than MF or Gilded due to RNG boxes. Not that they’re affordable now…
I have been having lots of good drops lately, I have 145% MF atm. The cap for MF is only from luck that comes from luck, but you can stack it well beyond 300% if you wanted.
Sure, karma is hard to come by now a days, but that doesnt make gold any less valuable. After all, the karma increase is only affecting events, because neither vials or fractals get increased, and I would rather have a greater chance for gold than 15-30 extra karma a day IF i do some events…

The problem is in PvE too many guardians camp at 1200 range with scepter as it is, another ranged option and more people would do it. You’re not helping anyone at that range.

Not only have not seen it either, but I think a guardian who is standing in a group, in range for shouts and virtues does more than a guardian 1200 away form the group dying to stray AoE and a huge zerg in melee range.
A good ranged DPS weapon on the form of the only spirit weapon we cant wear is needed, period.
I like going ham on the enemy as much as the next guy, but it sucks to be the only class with the msot limited options for ranged weapons, what am I supposed to do in a big clash of zergs, be the meat shield with my zerker gear? Or a wall raid, autoattack the wall?! Or any kiting class who can keep its distance, autoattack with scepeter so that never has to worry about getting damaged?!

Warriors are not best dps, are not best bunker, are not best at range (?), are not the best at evading, are not the best at escaping, are not the best at jumping puzzles (why not), they don’t exceed at everything as you think. They are good overall, that’s what they do, they fight and fight well; its obvious.
I beg to differ. Try catching a warrior with a GS traited to remove roots and dolyak signet, healing signet and rage signet. And dont tell me thats a weird build, because minus the root removing part, all warriors run that in WvW, and dont tell me they dont do damage, a nice root from a cripple followed by a nice 100b isnt exactly my definition of comfortable, specially when they made me burn dodges and conditions cleanses with their low CD gap closers and intense damage/healing capabilities. Add a hammer on top of that to sweeten the deal and you have the WvW warrior, which escapes anything and engages anything and kills most things, and if it fails to do that….run away in a blink.
Sounds a lot of like D/D ele right? Well, even old D/D ele cant compare to current power-creeped warrior, which has been getting steadily at least a buff in every patch, several ones at a time sometimes, al while all other classes have been seen nothing but net nerfs for the most part
So no, try other classes in WvW seriously and fight lots of these “balanced” warriors and come talk to us again.

Backstabs hit glass mesmers for 10k+, add cloak dagger 4k, steal and lightning proc, on a mesmer using berserker ammy, mesmer is down INSTANTLY. That mean’s no time to blink away, no time to even wipe your butt! And it is the backstab builds which are getting buffed.
What mesmers can do is NOTHING in comparison to the burst dps a thief does.
It is without a doubt the theif is the apex predator for our roll.
Pretty much this. I have been saying it for ages, and it will become even clearer as time goes on and the thieves get this 33% initiative buff; prepare for massive bursts (they already have it with those 8k-10k backstabs followed by 4-5k HS or other spells every 4 seconds) and easy disengages. As we move away from condition builds and bunkers (which both use tanky stats since traits and amulets have toughness and vitality) we will see the raise of these “not-so-hidden” overpowered Power-Burst-disengage-at-will-and-engage-at-will thieves.
I can see it coming miles away, we are power-creeping too much, specially these classes which may appear as “unpopular” to some. Thieves are not as bad as bad players make it seem, they have one of the highest survavility in the game if they can press more than to fingers due two easy access to the highest amount of untargetted teleports and uncounterable stealth, which is only getting buffed next patch.
Like I said previously, backstab needs to be toned down, HS needs to be toned down, thieves need other ways of survival that do not involve grieving matches with stealth. Power creep needs to stop.

With the sprouting of human female animation threads, it has come to my attention that we still havent taken care of male sylvari walking animation holding Greatswords, I think this also apply to male Norns.
Basically they are holding the greatsword as if it was a normal sword…………….. with an invisible shield. Not only do this make them awkward looking but destroys a little immersion of the character, more than a walking animation of a female human.
I hope you look at it before you look at human animations since this has been longer .

Right now, in terms of practical use, I find that Renewed Focus is great, low CD and its useful to self and to the party if you traited Virtues. I find all 3 elites great but I have a little problem;
Tomes, while definitively not underpowered, feel underwhelming,and when I say underwhelming I dont meant as in the spells dont feel powerful, but rather that the elite feels alien and too short lived for its purpose, even if traited for 30 secs duration.
For such a fun skills, they seem to last 5 second at most, they make you feel powerful and like a holy mage but by the time you are getting the flavor of it, it runs out, leaving you with a very bitter taste and a long CD.
Suggestion: Increase the CD on the #5 spells to 40-45 seconds (instead of 30), increase the CD of some of the other spells too, perhaps even tone down the effects a bit, but increase the raw damage of some of those spells. But allow the Tomes to be sort of a toggle, that once you turn it down, it goes on a 1 minute cooldown.
Using Tome of Wrath #1 is fun, like…REALLY fun, it would be great to have it more often available, same with the knockdown and the cripple, as well as the buff….and you know what, the entire kit, same for the other tome. As for balance, I highly doubt people would sit on it all day since it locks you out of weapon skills and utilities, but I would love to use it in big team fights for more than a heartbeat.
Some might argue that the skill would lose its “powerful” status but I think that a guy holding a giant book looking all almighty and casting 1200 range cool looking abilities would never get old.

I just wish there was something we could do about flipper. While I understand that Anet actually benefices from them (after all, they sink A LOT of gold) ,but for the players that play the game honesty all they do is make gold less valuable, items unnecessarily expensive and force others into taking action or falling behind.
There are still people out there who believe that flippers barely make a dent in the economy, but truth of the matter is; the cumulative actions of thousands and thousands of flippers make the market so unstable, to the point that a guy i my guild has barely ever left LA but has 4 legendaries thanks to flipping stuff around…..

I think this is more a WvW issue. In spvp you don’t want to waste time perma stealthing and waiting for the right moment to strike. The damage is also much lower. In WvW however, you can sit in stealths with no consequences and as long as you please, then immeditately when the stealth wores off, swap to d/d and strike with the usual 20k+ mug, c&d and bs combo.
We know Anet doesnt care about balance outside sPvP, therefore you see classes such as ele which were relatively fine in PvE agetting gutted or perplexity runes or warriors or thieves……

Nobody is saying thieves are brokenly OP, in fact, quite the contrary. If anything, the skill is brokenly OP. You people sure love exaggeration and love taking things to the extreme so that you can “disregard” them.
Yes, warriors are Op, on their own way. Yes, thieves are Op on their own way. Warriors have synergy. Thieves lack in team synergy and support, hence why thy are not prevalent. All I want is a fix for a broken skill, not a class.

Hi,
I would like to share my concerns with burst in this game, specifically burst coming out of stealth, given how that mechanic [stealth] remains at large quite uncounterable and spammable in certain classes, namely Thief.
Im refering specifically to Backstab, who with proper initiative and CD management, can be delivered several times in a 4 seconds interval, critting anywhere from 7k to 10k of the victims health pool. For some classes such as eles and mesmers, this can mean well over 80% of their lives, (mesmer having a little bit more of health makes it a little bit more forgiving).
I would like some tuning down of abilities that require no risk and rather move that damage (if their “damage quota” is supposed to be that high) to skills that require at least some counterplay and gave risks for the thieves.
I’m aware of the problems thieves have when it comes to team utility and such, but I believe this skills is a major offender to balance coupled with stealth and the ability to disengage and engage at will, toppled with straight up spamming (which is going to get worse given how initiative regend is going up by 33%)

Personally I got tired of RNG and waiting, so I decided to farm and got my Dawn yesterday, (partly thanks to a lucky drop in AC in a random chest I found The Energizer). They said they are bringing it out When its ready so I will wait for it to craft The Legend, which right now is still on the 8xx gold so it is a big no-no for me.
All I can tell you is, dont expect too much and you wont be disappointed, it is a life advise that has worked wonders for me.

Lots of personal attacks at my name, I’m trying to have a civilized discussion about backstab (note how I tried to remain as civilized and constructive in my opening post) but instead I get called names. This is truly disgusting in any serious community and I will start reporting any thread that do another personal attack.
Look, all Im saying is;
High hitting abilities that cannot be blocked, cannot be seen, dont have any telegraphed move, that if played right can be delivered without the victim ever knowing you were there to begin with, should NOT have a 4 seconds CD and should NOT hit for over 80% of a person’s life If you cant understand that logic then I will start demanding said skills on all classes, see how that feels, because I find it pretty stupid that we have things like these in the game.
Sure there arent many thieves out there so it isnt much of a deal, but the fact remains that soon after we move away from the cond/bunker meta, these builds will wreck havoc to the point that will make them unbearable.

I just love reading all those comments defending Thief and how they are going to become unviable [again] after they have been saying the same since the release of the game and still up to this day thieves remain a very strong class in PvP, best part? their signature says “Thief”.
Look, Im not attacking your class, Im merely attacking one skill that is out of line for the entire game, nothing else. Stuff need counterplay, specially when they take 80% of your health out of the blue without any counterplay about it.
You want people to start taking this game seriously? Start treating it seriously! Many games fall into this because they want to cater to a few people and thus overall balance is never achieved. Backstab is unhealthy for the game as a whole, even you, backstabs users get affected by it because at the end of the day, less and less people will take sPvP seriously due to your actions.

Im currently going through the same, though I have an ele which has been my main for over a year, Im experimenting with mesmer too. I can tell you so far, Im liking how mesmers survive more than eles, in every possible way and scenario. Only thing I dont like about mesmers? Lack of sustain and tagging ability. Any damage done to you sticks like glue, whereas as ele if you are able to (somehow) survive the first round, you might recover some hp back. As for tagging, it is quite hard to tag stuff as a mesmers in big fights, mostly since you lack AoE, staff being a good one but on 30 secs CD and small radius, usually in big fights all you are doing is veil and portal (quite epic and fun in organized play!!) , whereas an ele will wreck havoc if allowd to stand in the back.
As far as PvP is concerned DO NOT roll an ele for that purpose, you will get massacred by just about anything, even critter will be more effective than you. Mesmers are really strong duelists and provide a lot of support to any team.
So this is how it goes;
WvW and PvE oriented? Ele.
WvW and PvP oriented? Mes

Look, Im not saying Im a pro 100 top player, neither am I saying thieves as a whole are OP, infact I believe they need help. All Im saying is; one particular skill is out of line, and thats what needs to be addressed. I wont get tired of saying this; a one-shoot mecahnic out of the blue is not fun for anyone but the thief, and even then, that thief will eventually get tired of it and move on. Do you really want that for the game? Do you think it is healthy? If so, then let me refer you to this little video right here;

I’m confused. You make it very clear in your original post that you know most people disagree with you. Yet you seem very surprised when everyone disagrees with you. I must ask the question: what were you hoping to accomplish?
Also, judge’s intervention is way harder to avoid than backstab. They are both awesome skills that are powerful but well-balanced. Neither one has an animation telling you to dodge it, and that’s okay.
Because unlike thieves, as a guard, most of them time you choose to engage, you remain there, and judge ntervention doesnt hit you for 80% of your health. Sure you can use focus 5 but if I see a guard running around with focus 5 on I will count and dodge for the definitely-coming judge focus combo, with a thief you never know. That is the difference.
And Im not surprised, I know Im going agaisnt a tide of thieves and people who play bunkers/classes with more than 11k base health, but if you want diversity in the game you gotta start fixing the balance offenders, Anet already stated that thieves have kept eles and mesmer out of the meta, Im merely stating why, and I believe BAckstab is one of the biggest underlying problems yet they didnt address it.

Yeah I can see all the hate coming my way, but I will stand strong on my point. As someone getting really tired of thieves one shooting me and my friends (which guesss what, have also quitted sPvP for this and many other reasons) I can tell you that this is wrong.
I know most of you hate comparisons, but I will do the unthinkable; LoL Evelynn. A stealth cahmpion which would one shoot most people in stealth with a 3 secs stun followed by 2 spikes. This was back when the game was young and very unbalanced, she got gutted and was nearly useless for some time. I dont want thieves to be gutted, I do enjoy playing them a bit, but people has to realize how unhealthy this is for the game. New players and old players are getting annoyed by this, perhaps it might not win games, in fact I believe having a thief in your team might cost you a game, but still makes the game not enjoyable, it is, toxic, yes I went as far as calling one shoot mechanics toxic
And yes, tbh I dont have much issues with my guard vs thieves, but this is not the case for all the other classes. Can we please eliminate rock/paper/scissor stuff and add fights?

Problem is; I already play most matched in hotjoin as death match :p, kitten does everyone else. Objectives, as others before noted, are there only to make sure those fights are forced, this comes more in details in tournaments or organized play; “if you dont come and fight me then I win!” . How do I make sure I get some fights? Stand on a point and /laugh, just standing on the point is good enough, the laugh only adds salt to it, some fall for it, some others dont (sucks when you die and the enemy spams /laugh on you :< ).
Deathmatch without some kind of objective would be a dare game; “i dare you to come here” " No, I dare YOU!" " No, you!" , in the end, the match is determined by who loses patience first or time running out. Fighting over an obective gives meaning to the slaughter, call it, an excuse.
Right now we have ‘king of the hill’ as some call it, but even so each map has other thing going on for them, which most people choose to ignore when doing these threads. If you want a match that once you die you are gone, then prepare to have only thieves and mesmers, because stealth is kind on those, same for effective bunkers.
No, give us something to fight for/defend/raid/hold/kill/prevent etc, then you will have teams with meanings and purpose rather than just; “survive!” teams

Hi, I want to ask whats Anet stand on Backstab currently. While I understand that thieves dont have all that much going on for themselves when it comes to team support as we know it, Im wondering if Anet is really ok with thieves hitting anywhere from 8k-10k with a single ability that unlike most classes with such a strong hitting spell, this one lacks obvious animation, cannot be blocked and does not reveal the thief until it is dispensed.
Currently I believe that if the class is supposed to have that much damage, then I suggest we move that damage to other skills that require at least some kind of risk. Sure if you are a 20k hp warrior then 9k might not be all htat much to you, but if you are a valkiry/zerker guard, ele or mesmer than a 9k hit will take more than half your life ( 80% of your life if you are guard/ele) and thats every 4 seconds.
Please dont bring the “but thieves are squishy! spam all your long CDs in the hope that it might hit them”. It is not fun to be on the receiving end, it is not fun for any observer (I can assure you many people will close any stream if all you see if a thief one shooting anyone in any 1v1 scenario and disengaging any time their health drop a bit).
Let me put it into perspective to all thieves out there; imagine your 14k thief was hit every 4 seconds out of the blue with a 9k skill and there was absolutely nothing you could do about it.

To be honest I prefer the old Sylvari design to the revamped one. The revamp looks more unique but lets be honest, the Sylvari is by far the most ugly race in Tyria.
Lets be honest, Sylvari are the best, only thing they are missing is different body types, even the most “buffed” males look like 13 year old kids

well, you see, i used to be an ele, and thought range wasnt good in the game, then I rolled a mesmer and my goodness. And yes, I have a zerker guard, and i also agree, eles are in a really bad place in PvE overall indeed. But oh well, GW2 stands for Guards & Warriors
