Eles ARE extremely fun to play indeed, but just as fun they are as ineffective. Some people cant see those two apart, but they are indeed, very mutually exclusive.
Just like useless =/= unviable. Sure the class doesnt suck donkey’s balls, but match an ele vs a team that know more than what their 1-5 skills does and you will have an ele that cant pull their weight. THAT is what iscalled being unviable. Get it right, people.
And you want to be taken seriosly? Give me prove of all these “pro” eles dominating sPvP high ranking, I want to see one carry their team on a esport…..oh wait…..we have 0 representation….. well gee

Sadly playing ele right now its playing sPvP tribulation; everything can kill and everything WILL kill you, it is just a matter of when.
As you noted, at least 20 arcana and 20 water are required for any specc that doesnt want to be blown on the first round of attacks, couple that with mandatory 2-3 cantrips and you have a totally useless ele that cant neither do damage, support their team (since it is too busy trying to keep himself alive) nor keep themselves alive effectively.
My only advise? Do as all the pros have; reroll to a different class (last MLG, 0 eles, the one competition after that 1 ele, costed the match to their team). Good options right now for damage; thief, warrior, mesmer. For support guardian, engi.

Hi, we need range indicators. What do I mean? Well, some skills fail to go off if the target is 1201 but the spell has a range of 1200.
How would that work? Easy, when you have a target, skills which have range (non-melee ones) would appear with a soft red circle around them to indicate that target is still out of range, perhaps even give us another option on the UI to also show on the bottom the exact distance in units that said target is.
ALSO, another QoL change would be if certain skills such as “Blick” and “Lighting flash” didnt show the “out of range thing” when you target them just a little bit farther than they should, instead it should take you to the max range in said direction. Cant count how many times this have gotten me killed since I was a couple of units away from the skill to go off or had to flash to short which lead to no net gain.

Hi, Im fairly new to mesmer, I have been doing quite well in sPvP with a 20/20/0/0/30 build I found online with Staff/GS zerker shatterer. Im not lvl 80 in PvE yet but I wanted to know how do mesmers fare in both WvW and PvE with a shatterer build similar to the one Im using.
In other words; I dont want to be a veil nor portal bot in WvW, I want to be able to tag up people in WvW and stacks of mob in PvE, is a shatterer build good for these purposes?

I would say warrior given how easy and OP strong it is right now. Guardian is another safe bet though you might find its mobility and early survavility hard.

Gate of Madness actually has a really big RP community. TC used to be a strong RP server but at some point many people who dont care about RP joined the server due to its WvW and World bosses stuff, thus making the server just like any other, if not worse.

I welcome the idea, unfortunately, OP, this has been mentioned since Beta days and we have yet to see any words from it. If anything get prepared to have this thread moved to the graveyard suggestion forum.
More options = better. But I would much rather have us balance out the current skills before we introduce more skills into the game

Same here, pal. I rolled an ele as main since release until 2 months ago. Fully decked it on ascended, almost finished Bifrost and had more than 1500 only on the ele. Then I created a guardian, now I realize how underpowered teles are, as compared to guardian. My guardian is fully decked now and almost done with Sunrise, but I decided to test warrior to see what all the fuzz is about and….my goodness, even with crappy gear they do better than my ele and guard together could ever hope to!
Either everyone else needs to be brought up to warrior’s place or they need to drag warriors back with all 7 classes, it is too unfair

I keep hearing people being very negative about LS’s direction as in “what happened to the elder dragons?!” or “enough Scarlet!” or “can we get some real story going on here?”
I find the LS project refreshing , granted, I would like them to be more spaced out and polished (as in give more time to people to do them, and allow for more breathing room for ideas and testing and for the poor teams who are being overworked to deliver these every 2 weeks). I love dragons as much as the nest guy, but LS make the world feel alive and changing, even if they are mostly “festivals” that leave too soon.

Anet, I love many aspects of your game and I think this is the best MMO out there, so i will stick around for longer since I foresee a great future for the game. Having that said, there are a couple of things which need to be addressed, ASAP!
Class Balance:
To me this is the biggest issue. This isnt only about sPvP or WvW, but also PvE. I dont want to point too many finger but right now warrior is probably the bigger offender. While people exaggerate a little about their strenghts, the truth of the matter is; they are still the best all-around class, which has the most viable builds and versatility , with virtually no drawbacks. Makes the rest of us feel neglected, aka elementalists.
Whether the balance issues are perceived or real, there is a real disparity about classes when it comes to utility/damage/support. Many classes have only one or two viable builds which pidgeonhole them into usually only one role; example guardians which are pretty much the support whoe of the game when it comes to sPvP, very few times we see a guardian playing damage and when you do, you would much rather have a warrior filling that role since they do it more effectively without giving up anything.
sPvP stas and runes gutting: Crit chance and crit % increanse is very important for some classes, matching different combinations too. A 35% crit chance with 58% crit % is not going to hit as hard and crit as often as a 67% crit chance with 108% crit increase, this gives classes with easy disengage (cough mesmers and thieves cough) the ability to kinda burst people due to high skill coefficients. But classes which rely to small repetitive attacks but has no real way to disengage (cough ele cough) die due to them doing nearly no damage as opposed if you were to encounter them in a WvW match.
WvW and runes/stats, duels: Traveler Runes, Perplexity runes, and a few other examples. I cant play guardian in sPvP anymore due to puppy mobility, Im so used to Traveler runes to make up for the obvious design flaw in guardians’ lack of mobility (which needs to be addressed, apparently mesmers and guardians are the only poor souls who dont deserve a 25% mov speed skill) that everytime I enter sPvP i feel like a slug and leave. I wish I could duel in the open world, people of my own server, in maps of my choosing, with stats of my choosings. Want to make money out of it? Make it a gem thing 800 for account bound “rights to duel” and give an option to turn it off in UI so that people dont get bothered by it, and dont give me the “immersion” excuse, I think they are many MANY more things in the game which are less unmersive.
Overall there is a lot to improve, a lot to fix, incentive for some people who need an extra kick so that they feel their time is converting to something “useful” (personally i find PvP intrinsicaly fun enough, but many others dont consider this the case)
and please balance the classes
edit PS: as far as WvW goes it is true; I used to be in Gate of Madness which allegedly is one of the “top populated server” yet in WvW there is never a queue, let alone a single soul, and you would think that instead they are in open world, right? Nope, all temples closed, LA never has overflow, all dungeons closed, maps empty, where are these people?! How are we ranked top populated server?! We are 21/24 server in WvW ranking. You know what I [and many others on my guild and whats left in the server] did? We went to server which we knew were actually populated, which had dungeons open, which had temples going; TC, BG, Magu. GoM will probably remain in t8, perhaps Im wrong and I live to regret my decision, but somehow I doubt it. MErge servers for next season.

Roll a guardian or warrio, preferably warrior since right now they are the most OP strongest class right now, guardian if the style doesnt fit you well. Under no circumstances roll an ele, dont make the same mistake many people did, right now they want to eliminate said class.
having said that, do not pay much attention to what forums have to say, they are ful of negative people who will “ruin” part of said fun. Enjoy the game , as another ex-WoW fellow I can tell you it was totally worth it

Even if those warriors can’t DPS for crud, that kind of bunkering should not happen. Normally I’m very much against nerfs, but Warriors need a serious nerf.
best part? The guy doesnt even move…… wanna know whats even better?! D/D ele was never able to achieve that kind of healing, was harder (or could be messed up LOL, I mean, it must be really hard soamming /wave and /sit as a warrior sometimes I guess, but then again, that class is so brain dead that I wouldnt actually be surprised), didnt have warriors mobility (and now cant even outrun a necro ….lol ) and its damage was probably less than that warrior given how banner buff stats and warriors have high coefficients as opposed to eles. But it is cool, knee jerk nerf eles in a blink, not once, not twice, but multiple times until they become the sad state we know call the almost-8th-profession

Oh wait…Except for projectile reflection there is absolutely nothing a warrior cannot do, and even then, they have so many blocks that they dont need it.
- Need heals? Bannners and shouts.
- Need conditions cleansing? See above
- Need CC? Guess who to call (and it aint staff ele)
- Need fire combo field for might stack? Fear not! Warriors got it
- Need a beefy upfront liner? Guess which class has the best passive regenerations in the game, with the right builds you can easily regenerate over 1000 a second or more (talking not only about healing signet, but the other stuff too), I advise you to look up “immortal warrior” thread on their forums.
- Need damage in the form of aura and banners? Guess who got it (hint, it isnt guardian)
- Need immense burst damage and a body which can take the hits while doing so? Well ele blows in a second in melee, thieves are single target DPS, mesmers phatasm need winding up and single target, totally pointless vs trash mobs. So guess who also got it!! Another hint, has been mentioned before!
- Best mobility in the game without getting double CD penalization or a target or initiative and all on a low CD, making you uncatchable and unrunnable. I will send you 2 coppers if you get it right

Certianly you cant achieve that with one build, but same can be said about ele, and no, you wont be able to o more than one thing with ele either (GASP, i know right, who would have thought!)
The fact is; an ele who is going DPS wont have any support to give, his condition cleansing will be close to none with staff since their condition cleansing comes from applying regeneration which comes from a non-DPS tree, water (GASP, I know, stunning) . A damage ele will not last a second in a fight if they go for him, whereas a warrior will not only last, but still be useful instead of running around in mist form.
A warrior can fill any role, an ele cannot, plain and simple. THis isnt about a single build, but overall most builds. I would rather have a warrior/guardian supporting and healing than a staff ele which has long CD on heals and thats all they bring. I would rather have a warrior buffing damage and dealing damage than an ele which will blow without proper protection. Sure eles are nice DPS, and in organized gameplay they are an awesome asset, but on a Pug? No thanks.
CC? Well, dungeons bosses have that anti CC buff which a total killer, and I would much rather take an AoE stun on 7 second CD which affect everyone caught in it and deals a lot og puppy damage, to a 40 secs CD stun which is conditional and odes no damage. But thats just me, and about almost every smart player in the world

I have yet to see a dev themself playing ele in high level playing and do well, or a “pro” for that matter. I do remember a dev plaing ele during one of those streams, he was failing badly at it, if im not mistaken he had to switch to warrior later on to take on harder parts.
Anyways, point is, most devs I have seen in my server and other servers when I guest is; Warriors, almost a staple thing. Like I said, I might as well roll one too, since Im guaranteed a good investment at the expense of personal fun.

I guess different server then, I have seen a grand total of 5 devs in between GoM, TC and BG, only remember the name of one (Wide Charr) and 5 of them played Warriors. Like I said, differnet servers, but also remember 14% of the population plays warrior, same for another 14% for rangers, more than 3x% of all classes representation were ranger in the last MLG and 0% eles. Spirit ranger still as OPstrong as always.

Nah its cool, I now realize you dont play guardians all that much (if at all) so I wont bother"arguing" with you since it is throwing rocks at an abysm. All I can tell you is; roll one, learn their skills, play a DPS build, specially one that emphasizes finishing off opponents with damage as opposed to wearing them down with retaliation and hoping they will stay long enough to not see it coming. My advise? Drop warriors for a bit (which we can tell you play given how furiously biased your opinion is).
DPS guardian is fine indeed, needs only some power tuning but nothing major, if anything DPS builds should be brought to their level, warrior is the best example of how things should NOT be. Hope thatg helps and hopefully makes you a better player . Remember, analyzing thing from the most unbiased point is the best. Not admitting that warriors are at the top of the food chain is plain ignorance (whether chosen or not) and will not help the overall health of the game.
You want more people to start taking the game’s sPvP and esports seriously? Start from yourself [the player] by realizing this outliers and bringing them back into the fray.

As balance dictates, if we are talking about PvP then 1v1 and 2v2 DOES matter, considering the current and only gamemode we have emphasizes on spreading out your forces to cover more distance, and being able to stand on your own or with the minimal amount of allies (2v2) is a trait very well welcomed, which is what Tribash fails to see. Staff ele is great in WvW yes, but so is every other 1200 weapon in the game with access to spammable AoE. Plain and simple. In a smaller scenario, being able to pull your own puppy is a very valuable asset at which eles completely and utterly fail at, and thus the MLG and the other esport organized the other day ago where there were a grand net of 0 in the MLG and a staff ele in the other one which costed the team the game since most of the time all he was doing was running away and mistforming , aka nothing for the team and pulling them down.

right now you have the Warrior Meta, where a warrior can fulfill any role, and have the most viable builds, where most build exceed at almost anything without hard counters and still pumping out insane damage, CCing the crap out of everyone and then soaking all damage in a blink, only to run away with a GS, which right now they hold the best mobility without blowing any initiative for it.
It makes the game dull, knowing that you are better off with 3 warriors, at least one with banners than almost any class. It kills the fun for some of us which would like to feel loved, like eles which are now starting to get kicked from PuGs and asked not join teams.

I thought it was common knowledge already that Warriors are the golden child of ANet, how many people need catching up?! O_o
Anyways, what bothers me the most about this i the low CD of it, a stun breaker usually is on 40-70 secs CD, yet a hammer AoE stun is on a 7 seconds CD, AoE, STUN, GIANT AOE, with insane damage to top it off, yet an ele with a 40 seconds CD has a conditional stun that if it hits, it hits for half the duration, with half the damage of a weak air autoattack. We say that staff ele is all about locking down and CCing, but I dont see how a warrior does, which has more than just 1 stun. Add up the insane sustain Healing signet gives, a healing skill that any class would gladly give up one of their heals for it, which to add salt to the injury, it heals the warrior’s already insane hp pool.
I currently roll a guardian and it baffles me how a class with already highest hp pool and an atrocious amount of blocks, healing and condition cleansing has access to better passive healing. As a DPS guardian your access to protection is minimal at best (5 points into virtues for a 5 sec protection every a whooping 90 secs CD woohoo!) since shouts are not the way to go as a damage oriented build.
I might as well join the train and roll a warrior.

I already gave up on eles, sadly, balance team doesnt play the class at all to know whats wrong with it. I now roll a guardian and everytime I see an ele the one and only thoughts that comes to my mind is; “easy kill” and then I proceed to steamroll said ele or make him run away wit like an inch of health, which allows me to cap the point and make the match an easy 4v5.
WvW is even worse because the only things eles could do vs me as a guardian [run away] can now be countered by Traveler runes, which when I equip it with Hammer/GS 20% 2 handed weapon CD and triple mediation, NOTHING runs me away at any easy pace, specially eles who are tied to necros on lowest mobility in the game.

sure I will believe you when you show said enemy player is a high level player and not some poor uplevel toon. I have landed 9k meteor easily on upleveled players who couldnt even scratch half my hp. I was as naively happy as you are now and added them to the party, only to find out that they were lvl 20 and lvl 18.

nope, it does nothing, though it is a nice staff indeed. I wish they started treating the whole staff as a weapon rather than a top with particles and a plain ol’ stick, but since Im no longer playing staff ele I dont think this is my major concern, I barely if ever use my staff except AC for the spider part and some dungeons for might stack.

Here Im, actively been working on a legendary since release, 1.6k hours gameplay, still missing precursor which costs 800 gold and gift of zhaitan…..
Sure it isnt something mandatory, but sure as hell I would love to have one, and actually i would like to have 1 for each character I own, yet this is incredibly hard to do given how you either; farm gold or get really lucky, either of them Im pretty bad at.

The only issue I had with the current karma is that we no longer get it from dungeon. Personally I made it to 4million karma with only jugs adn cahmpions boxes, not thats gone and thats understandable. But isnt karma about doing good stuff for the world? How is saving the Kodans not good? How is it aliviating the situations with the ghosts in Ascalon not good?
To me it all seems like a big [forced] time gating on yet another part oft he game. W/e, i feel bad for all those people returning now or those strating, they will never reach 1million karma needed for ONE legendary at any time getting 100-200 karma each time they do an event. I bought around 750 obsidian shards, already finishing one legendary and 1 million karma to spare, sucks to be a new player, Anet logic to make it fun for newcomers, HAH HAH.

Don’t forget the unholy amounts of damage warriors can inflict. The warrior is totally overpowered while eles lack in their main area: damage. What the ele lacks in health, is not being compensated with damage. Instead eles are being forced to use artificial tools such as conjured weapons to try and compete. The design of this class went wrong on so many levels, that nowadays only masochists still play it.
But that warrior with its 1.7k healing isn’t going to do any damage. It will be a distraction like a tanky guardian but won’t kill anyone that isnt afk. The Hammer is the best weapon for a non-dps warrior but if you don’t have that OMG damage and are just getting by on unsuspecting foe trait+earthshaker, staggering blow, backbreaker you are just a distraction not really scary as a warrior.
I would guess he probably is 0/0/30/30/10 or 0/0/20/30/20 either way he has to have 30 points in tactics at the minimum. Which means he gave up some good traits for shouts(not saying the alternatives are bad). If he has no unsuspecting foe trait then he is most definitely just a distraction and anyone could just walk away.
Not putting down him playing warrior I have one also its my second favorite class after ele. Just putting those numbers in context cause those numbers don’t come with insane damage at all.
47% crit chance without fury, which will make it 67%, “For Great Justice”, also shrug it off, all with 3k healings, then look at 29k hp, and 3.1k toughness, that guy will niether get bursted nor killed by conditions given the cleansings. Top that with probably 700-800 per second healing from healing signet with his healing power, best mobility in the game (GS) , swiftness on elite which has an attrociously low CD for the long lasting effects it gets. What do you get? D/D ele on steroids, and then some more. Not to forget the high coefficient damage of most warrior skills, the fact he has 2.7 attack power and can disengage at any given time (not that will ever need it). He does enough damage believe me, if anything, attrtion war will win it for him/.
Im sorry but if you can achieve that amount of things at the same time with any ele that doesnt mean giving up 1 or 2 things for the sake of achieving something similar, let us know, because right now that build out do any ele build in just about anything.
@OP: Im currently rolling a guardian, get access to fury, with 14k hp, relatively high toughness (forgot the number, but 300 from traits and from armor), my meditations heal me 2k each, cleanse conditions, teleport me to my target, instant, low CD. F2 passive is better than water mist aura thingy since its always on and heals more, my dodges heal more, perma vigor, a mist form every 25 seconds which actually heals me and gives me might everytime I block something (shelter), another mist form which resets my f1 to f3 skills , which give me and my entire team might, protection or regenaration on command, all that while providing all the usual stuff guardians provide, zerker gear so my damage is just as good. Gotta love how heavies get the best, right?

They sound really awesome. I use a 10/30/0/10/20 build with shouts and WoR for dungeons to help my party out (zerker though) but these seems sweet anyway. Haven’t really done meditations that much but might try it sometime. Feels like they don’t add much to your party though
Meditations are not for the party indeed, the only mediation I use in dungeons and not always is the one that removes a condition and deals damage. I always use consecration for condition heavy dungeons and stability for CC heavy dungeons, and since I can get AH I dont worry about sustain. Shouts are really nice indeed, but unless you are in a dungeon such as Arah or maybe TA, they are pretty much pointless, it is better to just go with damage and let the consecration/stability do most of their job, you know, even though most people would love to, it is not the guardian’s job to pull everyone’s wieght, because even if we want, we cant. There is a limit of how much we do, and focusing too much on soaking damage on the long run hurts the dungeon run. Dont want to get into the whole zerker vs no zerker argument, but currently dodges/damage are king, having the minimal condition cleansing and stunbreakers/stability is achieved by almost every class.
I say you give it a try, 10/25/30/0/5 is a good starting damage build, Sw/Focus and Sc/Torch, or you can change with GS or staff as needed.

I just wish they reverted the 25% damage nerf that skil took back in the first months from release. Right now the skill does about a little more than the same autoattacks in the time span but with the kick of actually hitting a lot less in PvP. Either the speed reduction needs to go or the damage has to increase.

I use 2 of them for the boon duration along with 2 sup. water and 2 sup. monk. with reduced shout recharge I have unlimited swiftness. It’s incredibly nice, and the extra healing doesn’t hurt either.
yah if you are a shout guardians this also works. As a meditation guardian this is pretyt much pointless though, since shouts =/= meditations (duh! lol )
I used to be a shout guardians up to liadri, thanks to the “bug” I was able to beat her since cripple and weakness became swiftness and might, and I had 3 shouts so beating her in p2 was a matter of DPS only really.
Soon after I took a liking to meditations, I still runs some shouts in dungeons if needed, since I can equip AH at will, but my main focus is about DPS right now, and shouts offer little to nothin in this respect. Great in WvW zergs, pointless beyond that point as a DPS build. Only reason I used to run Retreat and Save yourself was to catch up to people, now, no anymore!

I used to use scholar for PvE, but since I started doing some (successful) WvW roaming I decided that making two set of gears right now is not my main focus, takes too much time, gold, gems and already invested a lot, so now I run traveler everywhere. It is very nice in PvE since I dont need to equip GS/Staff Save yourselves and Retreat plus 20% less on shouts to move around, basically I just run everywhere without having to worry about anything, cast GS#3 any time it is available.
Once I get started on going heavy on dungeons again I wil lswitch back to my scholar runes on another set, but Traveler runes are a very all around rune set that works wonders in WvW adn PvE

Ok, you can deposit ALL those armors to the PvP wardrove, just like you would depost materials in PvE (something we could definitely use for PvE!!) , they become account bound! Once you go to the mist, where the NPC that sell the weapos and armor, there are some “doors” to the right, that is the wardrove! Check it out today when you get a chance, you will say “WHY DONT WE HAVE THIS CONVINIENT THING IN PVE?!”

i was taking mobs 4-5 levels higher than me when leveling, this was done with both my guardian and mesme. i leveled my ele at release so my thoughts are fuzzy about that, but im pretty sure i was taking veterans 2-3 levels above me easly with stsaff. I also took 2-4 mobs at the same time when leveling (once again, guaridan, mesmer and ele) and came up ahead most of the time, except ranged mobs, puppy those ranged mobs…
My advise OP, learn the class, depending on the class they have different ways of taking away that damage; example, guardians second tree gives you blind on activating F1, and F1 refreshes everytime you kill something, 5 points into the final tree gives you 3 stacks on might on activating f1. For only 20 points you get all the tools you need to take any ob. You get a good greatsword and jump at them, #3, DPS, once they all attack press f1, then once one of them die keep pressing f1 until they all die.
Remember, skills > stats most of the time, even in PvE.

Personally I think the price was worth it. The way Im runing my guard I have 20% boon duration thanks to that rune. 6% critical chance is alo nice, 10% condition duration is also nice since I have 10% more damage to burning targets, and when Im solo I have very limited options for burning targets. 10/0/30/25/5 Hammer/GS zerker triple meditation ftw!
