Since most of elementalists in PvP [core] problems come from sustain, I think this could aliviate by a lot the general problems we face;

Signet of healing; healing has to go up by A LOT, and by a lot I mean to make it as powerful as the one on warrior. Im not saying the same number, but if I decided to bring a skill that heal me on cast instead of dumbly over time, and I decided to blow CDs just for the heal, then I should be given that. A good amount would be 250 or 300, heck, even 350 would do it per cast.

Attunement switch; Equivalent of weapon switch. It shouldnt be better than weapon weapon switch, nor better than a warrior with 6 WPCD, but at the same time shouldnt be a handicap. 11 secs max, 7 secs min.

Base Health ; to 15k hp. Right now even non-bursty builds burst us. By bringing our hp on par with mesmers who have reliable ways of dealing with aggro we will be able to keep up with conditions and non bursty builds who burst us dow anyways. Of course were the other two changes to be implemented this wouldnt be so necessary, but I think this would bring the class as a whole to a better spot overall, specially the attunement part and the base health.

To be honest ice never really felt that Ele was kitten but then I’ve never played eek quite the sane way as I have other classes so I cannot make a good comparison. I keep reading that zerk warriors can do much more dmg than a comparable Ele. My eek can hit for over 5k and I’m not running zerk, what is it a warrior can do that so badly dwarfs that?

well, try this; a warrior hit 43k damage with One Hundred Blades on CoF first boss, thats at lvl 75, one skill, if by any chance you can top that with only one skill, on about the same cooldown, please show us. Heck, even Meteor shower on 3 times the CD cant hit that hard even if most of the meteors landed…

Assuming that you consider Liadri “glowy” i would recommend you to look up mini air elemental, ascalonian mage , iice elemental, those are the ones i own ( besides the first sab and mini spooky set) all have glowing, of course liadri is one of my fav due to how much i loathed liadri, and now shr has to follow me and do my binding buahahaha

Sad thing is, most eles really want to play d/d, which they can’t anymore. And the alternatives they are forced into don’t even appear in this graph. LOL!

Even if they fix the meta, eles won’t be happy. I miss playing (also playing against) the old harassing d/d ele, but that gameplay has kind of collapsed. Weird rushed nerfs to mobility a few months ago (RTL+LF). I expected those to be reversed quickly but that never happened.

Ripping the heart out of d/d. THATS the big ele problem for the last 5 months, not the bloody condi meta that everyone is on about now. That’s a bonus on top that clouds the real issue.

I never really cared about D/D, while refreshing for a “mage” archetype, im a die hard Gandhalf-master-of-elements-staff-wearer-bring-mayhem-to-enemy-lines, staff has the potential to be one of the greatest weapon sets of the game if it wasnt because it is aimed for decimating golems and af]k players (everyone can avoid everything even without been aware of it or even trying), and since its support is still kinda lacking (CDs, the spells are fine, the CD is what isnt)

Doesnt matter to me, I already have the look I want, all I want are the stats!

That is a bit sad to me; although I did want the ascended weapon stats at one point. I think I am stopping after one weapon though, so much grind for literally nothing to use on. One dungeon path isn’t cutting it when there are massive sections of the map unused.

well, I, for one, like trying to min max damage on my guard and ele, getting the best-in-store gear stats is a must. Nothing beats the feeling like knowing you are hitting the hardest possible

These are always fun to look at, but remember class representation does not correlate with balance, if you want to balance at the top.

Dunno, I would swear one of the main reason warriors and necros got their buffs was because “their lack of representation on high end ranks, not only tournaments”, but of course Im just decrepit

It is just another way Anet is sucking currency out of the system…first Karma and now WvW tokens.

Ascended armor available for WvW tokens and Karma incoming…

Save them unless you REALLY REALLY need 1 AP…

Seriously, though, I don’t understand the intent behind achievements that are just for spending currency. That has very little to do with gameplay, and everything to do with ANet wanting to push the removal of currency from the game.

The way to encourage players to spend currency is to offer items that they want (say what?) in places other than the gem store (GASP). Crazy talk, I know.

oh BELIEVE ME, you can scroll down the ele forum and find at least 1-2 threads per page. I have tried it all, from constructive criticism to this. For over a year too. It wasnt until now that people let go of their D/D that they have started to notice the inherent problem in all other [limited] array of weapons we have, specifically staff which i can date some of my oldest threads about staff 11 months old…

Anet just doesnt care when it comes to staff. It took forever to get water #5 to be able to move while casting. We asked for a vialbe air #3, all they did was make it go through targets, didnt take into consideration it never really hits to begin with. Lava font is still subotimal, yet you go to a necro’s forum and say “hey, since lava font is balanced, lets do the same to necros makrs” and everyone will say " unviable, wont work, dont make our class useless"

It is true that Anet primarily balances around sPvP but I doubt they would do anything as drastic as buffing Lava Font, which is basically already pretty much the best single skill in the game, DPS-wise. It is basically HB on instant cast.

DPS wise? O_o, dude, each thing does about the same as an autoattack……, actually, less than some 2h handed autoattacks like guards and warrs GS…. and both guard and warrior can auto attack faster than once every one sec, 1/2 actually, so basically each lava font tick DPS is less than half a warrior or guardian autoattacking…. you call that the best DPS in the game?!

Basically my problem comes from; DPS staff with as little as possible into arcane, and survavility without cantrips.

Right now all the defensive spells are selfish, on too long CD (armor of earth has 90 secs CD, selfish, yet guardians give a protection/regen and a stability/retaliation shout teamwide, 24secs CD, of course they are going to take a guard…). We have no way to dispense damage with staff, the weapon only works vs golems and PvE dumb AI.

Overall a couple of fixes could be;

-Make staff more responsive, fire #2 has to be instant like necros mark, a lot more spells have to hit harder, less winding time and less CD, MANY of them.

-Attunements need to be cut, 16 secs is insane, most good spells on staff eles kitten nal have 30-40 secs CD, whereas a warrior will have a 3-4 secs AoE stun on a 8-10 seconds CD….
-Fire traits have no use other than the power stat
-Blasting staf, needs to be integrated into the weapon. That or give us a -20% CD and 10% extra damage, not give us how the weapon should be like to begin with…

A s/d ele with the new conjure axe will be able to get about 24+ stacks of AOE might without party support.

Dragon’s Tooth (x3) -> Ring of Fire -> Phoenix (x6) -> Arcane Wave (x9) -> Earthquake (x12) -> Earth dodge (x15) -> Churning Earth (x18) -> Axe’s Ring of Fire -> Axe’s second skill (x21) -> Axe’s second skill 5 seconds after, on the RoF if it still exists, or on burning retreat (x24). And 50s of aoe fury, of course (not more because of the upcoming stack duration limit).

Hello, +875 Power and Condition Damage while playing solo. Without sigil of battle. Without might traits. Feel free to use any other sigil with sigil of force. Bloodlust, maybe? Sigil of Energy, for far more defense? Maybe Sigil of Hydromancy for some extra burst. Better than sigil of fire, in my opinion.

You might want to consider that after that godly combo, half of your spells are on cooldown and whatever you meant to attack fell asleep.

And warriors and thieves will still be able to just push 1 button and outdamage you for all the effort you put into doing that and putting every skill you have on a horrendously long cooldown.

Devs, are you really “Ok” with eles status at the moment? Do you believe that giving eles a buff to staff #1 healing and their gimmick weapons, while buffing every other class at the same time will bring us back in line? What are your thoughts on survival outside water/arcane cantrips, what are your thoughts about arcane-less DPS speccs, specifically staff as a non-support weapon?

Im starting to believe Anet is confusing; being emotionally attached to a class and class representation. I play mine not because I feel/am effective, but rather because Im emotionally and financially attached to my ele since all the skins (which at some point realized wasnt worth anymore to put them on my ele), gear, commander tag, contacts, dungeon story, harvesting tools, etc etc…..

Anet, get on your working pants and get to the core of ele’s issues; 80% of the time we are too busy trying to keep ourselves alive than doing something productive!

nobody should have mindless cleanses/conditions, because at the end of the day, the one that has the most wins, and right now we dont have any mindless cleanse but we have plenty of mindless condition (small duration) spam.

Take an example, a ranger with shortbow, or a warrior rifle, will be applying bleeds constantly (ranger conditionally, but the game is buggy enough to make it almost always guaranteed) , small duration, but cleanse will do absolutely nothing to it. Are you really ok with that? Shouldnt conditions be , as you said yourself, something that you tactically use at the right time? To me that isnt tactical at all

Here’s another example :

1 bleed stack (60 sec duration).

5 bleed stack (12 sec duration).

Same damage output overall and target cleanses every 6 seconds.

The 1 bleed stack only gets 10% of it’s dmg out before being cleansed, while the 5 bleed stack gets 50% of it’s dmg out before being cleansed, massive difference.

Exactly this.

The problem isnt that bleed is too strong, I believe the damage is ok. What I dont think is ok is the fact that most skills that apply them do it quite often, rendering cleanses useless because even if yuo were to cleanse it, it probably had 2-3 seconds left, but alas another short 5 second 2 stacks bleed is applied….

I dont mind too much the other conditions, they add effects which if used correctly can changed the tide of a fights, example; poison, by itself it doesnt do much damage and spamming it is counterproductive for the most part, but if timed correctly before a heal then it is effective. Weakness inflicts no damage, but can negate a lot. Burning is strong, but the damage is something you can kind of calculate in your head since it is constant, confusion has nice visual cues and usually is a trade off if you are willing to go through it.

Bleed?

As a 11k class player I must say this is an abomination. Literally a fight of about 7-10 seconds end up with me with a total of 17k-19k bleed damage over the spawn of the entire fight. It isnt so much about the damage, but how easily accessible it is for some classes, which apply it on autoattacks, on normals skills for long duration and large stacks.

I think what this meta needs to control the condition spam is to cut down bleeds a bit.
Now, I love bleeds as much as the next guy, but even I admit that they are a little out of control. Major offenders are necros, warriors, engis and rangers. Im actually kind of wondering if burning does need some tuning down, but my opinin is biased since I play guardian.

Another solution is; make bleeds stack in large quantities on skills, such a way that they do the same net damage. Instead of constantly reapplying them in which case I havent heard of a class that has a condition cleansing spell on an autoattack CD..

yet you have classes with a weapon which is all about CC and still is very lacking; Staff ele.

It arguably has the most CC in the game yet its performance in a teamfight is decent at best, when singled out then you are a free bag. (in this case glory)

CC is not the problem, the problem is; it isnt “balanced” like eles. Warriors AoE stun on hammer on a ridiculous small CD, will land everytime with that radius. Yet, ele only have access to a conditional cc cage in which targets have to go through in order to get CCed for 1/3 the duration, 1/4 the damage, and 5 times the CD ( 40 seconds CD, damage is less than an air autoattack, aka really bad, and lastly 1 second stun)

Also, instant mace 3 secs stun on that CD? Air staff #3 will miss 11/10 times and has triple the CD….go figures…..

Yet that same warrior will tank it all, while the staff ele will blow in a sec, go figures……

Anyways, like I said, CC should have trade offs, give all those CC heavy classes the staff ele treatment and you will see how it becomes bearable. I have yet to see someone legitimately complain about staff eles other than when they are on the same team, pulling them down.

There’s also nothing wrong with buffing different styles of play. It’s not like the current Warrior builds would use Frenzy with Hammer, you want to keep them locked down as long as possible.

My reaction time for stuff is pretty good, specially for animations I learned to fear. When I see a warrior with a hammer flying off to me, the first thing I do is dodge. If said animation is almost completely nullified then they would be broken. Remember, hammer CC is already borderline OP strong, no need to make it uncouterable, specially since a traited stun can last what seems ages….every 10 seconds.

If you really think so then I recommend you to watch this thief dude (forgot his name, but just look it up on youtube as thief PvP quickness), as if people didnt drop fast enough with thieves, pop a quickness and he was dropping them in a go, and it wasnt vs bad players…

Quickness is ok, only that we are in a conditionmeta, once it shifts towards bursting again, you will realize how strong quickness really is.

No thief in EU uses quickness.

If there’s some fool doing it, well i guess i’ve already said he’s a fool.

I see it quite often in NA though, perhaps different regions have different players, who knows. All I can say is; it does make a difference, specially if you are running a burst build in eithe ranger or thief , even a well played warrior can land a root and bam, 100b with quickness after burning a couple of enemy dodges

Quickness sucks balls.

If you really think so then I recommend you to watch this thief dude (forgot his name, but just look it up on youtube as thief PvP quickness), as if people didnt drop fast enough with thieves, pop a quickness and he was dropping them in a go, and it wasnt vs bad players…

Quickness is ok, only that we are in a conditionmeta, once it shifts towards bursting again, you will realize how strong quickness really is.

I really hope you didnt mean to imply thieves and warriors are not viable….

Anyways, @ topic; I couldnt care less, personally neither of the 2 classes I majorly play uses that mechanic; ele and guard.

Only a selected few have access to it and as proven by their performance I dont think they really ever needed it to begin with, so why buff it if warriors, thieves and rangers are in a really good spot at the moment. I really wouldnt want to imagine a warrior pulling off a chain CC and nobody being able to react to it because of that speed.

Either they give all classes access to it other than through mesmer’s AoE, or keep it the same way with their own drawbacks. I can guarantee you neither warriors, thieves nor rangers (not gonna count engis an mesmers because their CDs are different) desperately need it to be viable in the current state of the game

No. The whole point of quickness is for bursting and making it so fast that there is little time for reaction. 100% was too much so it went to 50%.

The changes you are proposing would defeat that purpose and make it a mechanic for sustained DPS, which in this case would become extremely OP.

Think about the new Ele traits alone?

When you critical with an air spell, gain quickness?

Gain quickness when you burn someone for Fire Traits?

sure I would LOVE to have quickness on my staff ele, perhaps thats what it needs since the only real weakness is their slowness, but even trying to cover up my bias I can tell how OP that would be.

Quickness would go from burst to “building up”. In long drawn battle quickness might become too much. Perhaps it can be balanced around that fact, but I would much rather keep it as a burst option than a passive buff. But thats just me, I wouldnt complain if they gave it to staff ele though…..

A New Interesting "Mode"

I like deathmatch as anyone else does, but I can see the inherent problems that could come with it, so instead I wanted to propose this;

Gladiator Arena.

The idea came from me exploring the Black Citadel, after hours of looking for an NPC that would start me in the fight going on, to my sad realization this wasnt like in the Norn where you could fight with Kreggs. This could either be a minigame or a full-blown PvP mode

Colossus Coliseum:

  1. -Location: Black Citadel (?)
  2. -3 “floors”; Bleachers, Arena, Catacombs. (team spawn location: bleachers and catacombs)
  3. -Everyone’s stat points increased 25%
  4. -Duration: 10 minutes
  5. -Deathmatch with a respawn forgiveness of 2 minutes

Objectives:

-Eliminate the opponents
-Capture “tokens”
-Tokens are in the middle gound, the arena. They are used to fuel the dead in your team to participate.
-Blue team’s dead players (bleachers) upon blue team’s capture of a token can use special cannons around the entire map.
-Red team’s dead players (catacombs) upon red team’s cature of a token will have access to animals (like real gladiator fights, they had animals on the bottom which they would release).

-Cannons and animals can only become targeteable after a player “posses them”. There is a CD for possessing and deposesing, to prevent players from acquiring said animal/cannons and immediately abandoning them when enemy players retaliate. Once eliminated (cannon or animals) dead players can no longer participate in the match. Cannon and animals are relatively weak, used mostly for scouting and softening of enemy players, not a driving force of action, to discourage a meta in which you purposely die to gain access to it. Tokens appear only at minute 5.

Major Objective: Eliminate the enemy. The Arena floor will have powerful ambiental weapons which can be used to change the tide of the fight. Terrain will have obstacles as well as some open field.

This is a rough idea, merely to introduce something cool I thought of while going through Black Citadel, im still disappointed that there wasnt any way for me to join the fun [fight] but oh well.

I like deathmatches, but I understand we cant have that in the game, so instead I though that this could give a blueprint or something

Oooooor, you all can adapt to it.

For the longest time we have asked for a map that had a cool mechanic involving more than using sill #1. This map is different yes, but at the same time more fun. The fact that you have to play smart and use skills (gasp!) makes it different.

Dont want to get knocked out? Bring some stability.

Want to turn it on them? Bring your own CC.

Dont want to do any of that? Mind your positioning, bait stuff.
