Ideally, all of our high impact skills should allow for counter-play via a clearly telegraphed attack animation.

I seriously dont understand the thought pattern behind a skill that hits anywhere 8k-10k, can be used every 4 seconds, has no animation and was given to probably the best roamer, disengager, stealth-spammy and spikers in the game…..

It baffles me….

Perhaps you can shed some light, end this, or hopefully fix it…

no im quite sure i didnt hit any structure and it felt like i hit him over and over because the flames of VoJ popped over my skillbar with every second hit…but might also be a visual bug thingy…meditation-dps guard does ridicilous amounts of dmg so i can imagine i just killed him with regular AAs but the game “showed” the wrong animations

somehow this feels like a thief saying this as if it was a guardian……. Im gonna assume Im incorrect though….

anyways, best thing you can do then is have a thief and you reproduce this and take a screenshot, perhaps it isnt a visual bug, but as far as Im concerned, from personal experience and seeing that happen several times just to see the mob/thief come out of stealth with what woiuld’ve been only 1 attyack, I must say that no, it is a visual bug

No, it is a visual bug, the last attack actually didnt land, so the animation gets stuck, he probably was going down in between 2 and 3 attack. It happens all the time vs mobs with stealth, you can check it on the mobs right behind AC, they go in stealth usually when Im about to land the 3rd attack. Visual bug, not an actual damage bug,

I definitely didnt like the useless sigil either, but it would be nice if the chance of getting a rare material was that of rare rarity. That would mean I could salvage yellows and get the same chance of getting ectos as a rare savage kit but still get no sigils/runes

There is an entire forum for that and I suspect this thread will soon be moved there, but fear not, I will answer the best I can meanwhile;

As another MMO player fellow, who also had some history on W*W, I can tell you that this game beats WoW in almost every aspect (but healing, I miss healing so much…).

With the recent addition of LFG tool, lots of alt friendly changes (still a lot more improvements to be made in this department though!), interesting and rewarding dungeons (no more do a 25 man raid for a chance of a loot, then a chance for a good roll, then a chance for a ninja) and above all, my most dreaded thing that existed in wow; grind and armor disparity.

Do not listen to all those who keep saying the new gear is a gear grind and vertical progress, they still do not know what it is to enter blood gulch and have an enemy with armor nearly 4 times as strong as yours……

Anwyays, here are my tips and things to check out while you are still new and get experienced;

-Try to level up doing map completition, personal story and WvW at the same time. You will get to lvl 80 in no time. Level progression is linear, aka; it takes the same amount of exp from lvl 32 to lvl 33, than from lvl 74 to lvl 75.

-Events are fun, playing with people is fun. No more KS, no more mat stealing. You see someone? Help him. You see a node somewhere? Get it. You see a bunch of people gathering up to kill a boss (champion), stay and kill it!

-Roll Sylvari (+5 points to you for coolness if you do)

- Dont get emotionally attached to characters in personal story, specially if you roll into the Whisper Order!!!!<—- Do NOT read until you reach lvl 80!

-Check fractals, IMHO, one of the best dungeon implementations up to this day. Make sure you gear up before then

- Forums arent very friendly inmany aspects, but the forum isnt a good representation of the game, most people come here to make negative remakrs and foget to put the good ones (Im guilty of this myself, sadly)

-Lastly and most important thing: Get into a guild, make friends, try to find one guild that has TS, and has a lot of people, it will increase the game’s fun by factor of 1000x

Enjoy the game and start working on a long term goal, Legendaries is a god start.

Ok I realize at this point we are both throwing punched in the air, and before we get ‘nasty’ lets stop it, this is not what this topic is about and I would like to keep this thread as “thank you, keep it coming” thread.

But to answer your questions and close that topic:

Necros best at running away? We must be playing different games. Warriors, debatable, though they definitely can run away, absolutely nothing beats invisibiity which can well translate into almost invincibility in this game. And yes I play lots of WvW and sPvP thank you. And yes, they were playing D/D, S/D, S/P and shortbow. Look this player up; Caed, he won the tournament, he is a pretty decent player using S/P shortbow.

And yes, I know what a hambow warrior is, also know how a 20k eviscerate feels like on a 2k toughness character, I also know what a 14k backstab feels like on a 2k toughness character.

Lets see how the new patch plays out, but I can tell you right off the bat, .25 casting animation wont stop S/D thief from being the killing machine they are, or will it decrease the normal sight 8k-10k backstabs in sPvP/ 12k-14k backstabs in WvW.

If you need further proof of this I will dig in (to my inconvinience) the video of a guy showing off 16.5k backstabs self buffed and alone in WvW.

And you know nothing about sacrificing survavility for damage; elementalists dont have neither stealth nor clones nor toughness nor health pool nor death shroud nor aegis to fall off when things start going bad, all “defensive spells” (aka cantrips) have the CD of what you would consider elites (75-90 seconds………) while thieves have acess to stealth once every 4 seconds, so dont give me the

because we have about the same healthpool as you do except that we cant stealth nor have the same damage without popping about all cooldowns without a single cantrip and once someone locks us down we are as good as a loot bags.

What are you even talking about? Thieves are borderline garbage in any style of play besides ganking uplvls in WvW and running away with stealth.

Check the latest tournaments ; all winning teams had at least 1 thief. Thieves have been a constant in sPvP and tPvP (as compared to elementalists which had literally 0 representation). The latest tournament was held 2 days ago, won by a petting zoo ranger/thief. Top 4 teams had all thieves except the other finalist which was hambow warr and another petting zoo ranger, so basically the thief defined the win.

Also, currently, thieves hold second best PvE single target dungeon damage (aka boss killing potential). And we all know damage > anything else in PvE.

Lastly, thieves still hold the best killing potential and running away potential of any class in GW2 in WvW or any other form of PvP

Not being able to draw this potential denotes only lack of skills, not that the class is weak. Have a great day, sir

If you think thieves didnt have this one coming, then you must be maining thievs mostly since anyone who isnt a thief knows how brokenly OP they still are. Also, you got a 33% initiative buff. Lastly; Backstab is still as overpowered as always, stealth is as overpowered as always. Also, you got many many other good things in the patch, stop looking at oly the called for nerfs (which are still not enough to bring them in line), among those good things is an AoE heal.

I thought PvP was supposed to be on an equal footing, right of the bat, where all skills were to be unlocked. So why do I have to lvl up my character to lvl 25 or buy tomes or go around map clearing SP to get the new skill?

I can understand PvE, my characters are all lvl 80s for the most part and have spare SP, but I wanted to try out the new skills and it just wont unlock…..

Also, you might want to rethink the cost. Sure it isnt a problem for me since most of my lvl 80 characters have 100+ SP, but for someone starting the game, the cost might be of that which you would consider really good, when in reality they are just another healing skill that might or might not fit your build.

What am I reading?! Mesmer have the highest single target damage in dungeons with phantasm builds….I recommend you to look it up on the mesmer forum. Thieves come second, third is warrior, followed by eles which without FGS they actually rank among the last DPS, so basically eles DPS comes from a bug which might get fixed soon. You are greatly uninformed, my friend!

As for squishy, I would like to remind you that the squishiest class out there is the elementalist, which lacks any clone, stealth, armor, health, utilities (cantrips) on less than 75-90 CD, and has nerfed healing skills.

Cant count how many times I have been purposely singled out and focused for that fact…. even in a packed zerg I always tend to be among the first targets. Luckily Im a guardian but then again, it hurts my feelings T_T.

I have even had people going completely out of their way to try to finish me off, and although I might not be the best guardian out there, I usually put up a good fight and even win some! I gotta say, a taunt skill might not exist in this game, but having a Legendary might be the closest thing there is to that!.

And I agreed, Warriors OP. You would think that guardians are balanced and have a place in almost every aspect of the game, but warriors are even more balanced and define almost every aspect of the game.

Sad but true! (Still, thieves are getting some pretty nasty buffs with initiative next patch, they will be even more OP than they currently are…)

Ascended Pointless?

Even if they increase your personal stats, the overall balance will be the same in WvW where odds of having equal amount of players with ascended is the same of both side. If you are roaming alone then sure ascended might make a difference, but only in equally skill matchs, and even then it is possible to beat someone with exotics.

You people are overexaggerating, and at this point Im starting to think you are the kind of spoiled and annoying brats that want it all, want it now and want it free in the candy aisle. There is a fine line between working for something and grinding for it, of course it is very subjective and varies from person to person. There are grindy things in the game for sure, such as those that take 250 t6 mats, or getting raw gold in general, but for everything else, a pretty good balance has been achieved IMHO.

Once again, dont expect to get things based solely on playing absolutely one aspect of the game. Spread out, try different things, find the options that arent too grindy for you and fit your style better. I can guarantee you that you will find a lot of aspects of the game which you didnt even know about.

Guardian when I feel like surviving stuff and come out with a very good DPS. Also it is the character that has gotten all the good looking skins, weapons, minis and the one I use the commander tag the most in PvE events.

My elementalist is my go-to in WvW and some dungeon paths. I also use its commander tag but mostly in WvW when there is nobody repping or in some guild misions where they need ranged DPS

My mesmer is still a baby kinda, but Im starting to use it more often to fullfil what the guardian and ele do alone; DPS while getting utility out of it.

Warrior and thief when I feel like having an easy time and faceroll people, then I feel bad for playing such cheap classes and let them sit in the character screen for another good month

I know Im not the only one on this view;

I would play WvW even if there was no profit on it, just for fun. (like it currently is)

In PvE my fun is tied to how my character looks, so looks > stats.

In Dungeons all I care is about making the runs faster; aka beating the challenge.

In sPvP my fun is tied to playing on equal grounds, a show of skills.


Would I want rewards for playing one field exclusively? Sure. Would that be unfair? Very!

Legendaries are working as intended (except for 250 t6 stacks and precursor), you have to spread out in almost ever aspect of the game. Ascended is kind of the same, except to a lesser extend. Do you need them? No, absolutely not, I run dungeons in exotics mostly and there is no difference, same for WvW. You want them; work for them!!

The real reason behind this nonsenscial desing is the Item Mall: it is hoped that lots of people buy the gear through gems.

You cant buy laurels with gems. You cant buy dragonite/emperyal/blooddust with gems. You cant buy 1 per day accountbound materials such as charged quarts or the 450 wood thingy.

Im sorry but your logic is flawed. You want rewards? Play the game!

And please, people, stop it with the “WvW players” or “sPvP players” or “explorer players” excuses! This is one game. I do WvW, among all my characters I have a total of around 190 ranks. I plya sPvP, nearly rank30. I have completed 100% map on two toons and working on 3rd one. I have dungeon master. All crafting professions but the one with leather. A legendary. 4 characters lvl 80, 3 of them fully ascended and 125 laurels to spare, working on the 4th. Fractal lvl 30. Never played TP, never farmed CoF, only farmed FGC for a week and got utterly bored. Nearly 9k AP. Had around 5 million karma but spent 4 million in obsidian shards. Halfway through my second legendary. Yet I have 1860 hours of gameplay.

You people are doing something wrong, very wrong. Like I said, in this game things are very achievable without any grind, you just gotta focus and gotta stop thinking that you are an “x field player” and instead realize that all of this are different aspects of the game.

sorry mates, i liked the gw1 because that game was about skills. you needed 10 hours to max a character with full gear. your skins was basics, but maxed stats

you mean, sPvP, where this is achieved 5 minutes after character creation?

If you go to an MMO and expect it to not have a progression of some kind…then this might not be the genrer for you…. FPS might fit you better

Im glad the rewards were this bad (as in greens and stuff) but I was very disappointed that no exclusive skins were given. To be honest, a skin would have sufficed for me. But then again, it would probably go to the bank and stay there like the thousand other skins that i can find a toon to put on because most of the time they are backpacks and I only play around 3-4 characters at any given time

Once again, you do NOT know what true grind/armor difference is, if all you are complaining is about a piece you can literally get in 2 weeks and even without it you are on equal fighting level with your opponents then you are simply; spoiled.

But if that’s the case, then what’s the point of that gear? Oh, actually, I do know: it’s to have more progress bars for the barely sentient to fill.

just like you have people who gather every possible AP point, or people that do every possible JP, or people who explores every map on every chaarcter, or the people who have several alts, or people who play only WvW, etc etc etc…..

It is an style of play, an style that is not mutually exclusive from the others above mentioned. A person can have different likings. None is right, none is wrong. Nobody can dictate how you want to enjoy the game, just because it isnt fun to you doesnt mean it isnt fun for others. What did Anet do? Give thosepeople who want to feel like they are working for a better gear a mean to keep them busy and working on it, something they ( I also ) enjoy. How did they solve the problem of powercreeping? Simple; minimal stats increase.

People like me need long term goals to work towards too. We arent antisocials, we arent no lifers. I got a work, family, career, studies to take care of, yet I play. It took me a year and 4 months to get a legendary, long term, was fun because I did it with my guild while doing a bunch of activities (like map exploring, dungeons, guild events, crafting, make friends) which I enjoyed. I felt lost at that point, but the end result was fun. Now Im giving myself another oal, another legendary and armor for each character I own.

Is anyone is their right to judge me? Sure, it is up to you, at the end of the day your judgement matters little to nothing to me. It is my way of having fun. Im already playing at max since I’m not grinding for need but instead of giving myself a goal to achieve. It might be hard to comprehend for some people, but the implementation of Ascended by Anet was novel (though they could reduce some of the mats requirements, some of them are beyond crazy, like 250 Strong Blood and such….)

All people that keep complaining bout “catching up” and “grinding” have never played a real catch-up or grind game. Not only that, the stats it offers are minimal. Sure, 5% can make a difference, but in the scenarios they keep bringing it does absolutely no difference………at all. Dungeons? I have been doing them in exotics and ascended with 2 different characters, and must say the damage is very minimal, to the point it matters not, the boss dies .1 seconds faster….. not a life changing event. In WvW no ascended armor/weapon will ever save you, and its very unlikely to give you that extra 14 damage you need to finish up that opponent running away.

The total amount of stats increase is 5%, sure is good, eventually Im getting there, but it isnt something that make or break the game, I guarantee it. This is coming from a guy that has 3 characters fully ascended with MF infusions and weapons(and a legendary too), and still 125 laurels to spare…..

Wanna know true grind? 2Moon. Played the game for over 2 years, took me over a year to reach max level on one character, barely reached 4 on armor…..armor were up to 12. A +1 in an armor was like day and night, no contest who would kill you, only looking at their armor you knew who had the clear upper hand. WoW same, Rohan same, among other MMOs which Im glad I got rid of.

Once again, you do NOT know what true grind/armor difference is, if all you are complaining is about a piece you can literally get in 2 weeks and even without it you are on equal fighting level with your opponents then you are simply; spoiled.

Ok so let me get this straight;

Some people complained about an armor which (regardless of its origin) looked great, had probably one of the coolest effects, (and in this game we have a serious lack of armors with effects, specially light looking armor) an armor that was making a bunch of people happy, a sell that was supporting the game most of you play almost completely free just because it resembled a cultural armor?

You do realize that a bunch of armor/weapons in the game have similar or identical skins, right? Cultural weapons can be bought without actually playing the race due to similar skins. Hard to get precursors such as Dawn and The Legend have analog skins that can be bought for as little as 350x lesser price, and they are identical.

The newly released armor resembled the cultural armor in the sense that it was modeled off it, but had new particles and added details, so that makes them 2 completely different armors.

“But I for that t3 armor with a lot of gold! I should be the only one showing it off!”
Well, I paid 620 gold for Dawn, how come you can buy one that resembles it for only 3 gold? See? Nobody cares.

“But it is a racial skin, nobody but my special race should get it!”
Exactly, thats why they made it different, with different effects.

“I dont like sharing. I like being unique for the sake of it! How would you feel if Anet took an armor of yours and gave it particles?”

If Anet does that, then I would buy said armor on my character that already had it, and then I would buy it on other characters too. Then i would go around looking at people being happy wearing an armor they couldnt wear before, and together we would enjoy it. Try giving instead of always taking for a chance, it might actually give you some satisfaction.

It is sad things like these happen.

Ok I skimped through it because that was a hard read, no bullet points, no tl;dr, no bold lines…nothing, just a bald ol’ imposing wall of text. So instead I will comment what I kinda overread and what tends to be the most usual complains:

This game is not p2w. As a guy who has played WoW, Rohan, Aion, 2moon, among many other monthly subscription or p2w games I can tell you this is NOT a p2w game. I have spent money but never have I had the need to do so if I dont wish to. Gold can be converted to gems and if you play the game regularly gold is not a problem. My biggest issue with monthly subscription is the following; when you stop paying, they ransom you or otherwise it is like you never got the game. Here, you buy, you play till the end of times.

Movement settings; yes, I like being lazy and moving around with the mouse. Sure I would like it, but if you are judging a game based on that, I dont think the problem is the game……

2 days is NOT enough to judge ANY game. Join a guild, find friends, go to populated servers and maps, immerse yourself, and above all: GET OUT OF THE FORUMS! . This place is filled with a very vocal minority that complains for everything, and by everything I mean everything, even when they introduce good stuff. It will quickly suck out the fun off you and make you believe the game is not as good as it is.

tl;dr Keep playing, get off the forums, learn to use key to move, game is free after purchase and not a p2w. Join a guild and make friends, you will soon realize why this is the best MMO out there.

you are the clueless one here, scroll up, read the OP and the title; this is exclusively about DPS. There is plenty of proves about overall DPS of classes. Besides a mesmer nobody cares for anything but DPS in CoF. Except for maybe a guardian or maybe a mesmer, nobody cares about anything but DPS in most other dungeons, which can even be done without those classes. Play a little more, specially with premade exclusive dungeon runners like me and you’ll learn that. No need to apologize to us, not everyone has experience in the game, so im glad to teach anytime.

@Topic: OP, I have 4 characters exclusively setup for dungeon runs, I have a premade which runs most dungeons on a regular basis, weekends we run them almost all but Arah p4 due to lenght , CM sometimes and TA aether path which is also lengthy. From personal experience I can tell you that this is how it goes:

Guardian: needed mostly in TA, only one is needed, for the staff autoattack, alsoways good to have one in party at all times. GS & sw/f. DPS is decent to good, but not the best compared to the rest Im going to bring to this table.

Mesmer: A must have in any group, ability to buff party, unparallel reflects makes Arah a piece of cake. DPS is probably the highest out there. You bring this guy because it has no draw backs.

Warrior: While Mesmer has the best theoretical damage, this one has the best practical damage. Banners make the difference. On top of that you have a class that unlike others, can stay in the middle of combat doing DPS all the time without having to worry about anything else. Their job is to kill things, and kill them fast, and thus they excell at it. Your safest bet is warrior for DPS in pug as well as premades.

Elementalist: Optional, situational, used mostly in AC and some parts of Arah where you can stack the boss, specially if you can stack lupi agaisnt the wall. Good DPS but in pugs they spend most of their time trying to heal rather than actually doing DPS.

Overall this is the DPS dungeon trinity of the game: Mesmer/Guardian/Warrior. Anything but that is superfluous and just there to fill in, except the occasional elementalist. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the first statement; playing thieves and warriors are a disgrace, specially thieves. Anyways, as far as runnign away goes, warriors are quite good and infuriating. Some other classes which might have a good chance are a well played D/D ele, though thats pretty much all you will have to do since they are kinda (very) underpowered at the moment with all the nerfs to the class and buffs to the other classes. Engi runs away quite fast too, a guardian is deceptively fast with GS and staff, with traveler runes (me). Mesmer with traveler runes is pretty much uncatchable. Though i hate to admit it though, warriors and thieves got the easiest time, and at least you can see the warrior and do something about it (sometimes).

Anyways, it is up to you, all classes can scape if needed but just the same as most classes can die in the same situation. You just gotta know what you are doing and mind your surroundings. Warriors are your best bet if the only restriction you have is thief.

Best class for bag farming?

Guardian is pretty good at tagging, but other than that they dont do much to the team doing that. I advise to throw in a 0/0/30/30/10 or something along those lines to get PoV and some tankiness, at least yuou wll server as meat shield.

As for being very useful and still tagging like mad crazy; staff elementalist. It is game changing. As underpowered as they are in most other scenarios, as it stand snow (and the reason why Anet is so weary about buffing them) is because they have access to some of the most dangerous skill set in the game on the right setting and right organization.

Let me give you my latest example: Last night we were in Sunnyhill in the enemy team, we had captured almost the entire map so they called reinforcements. We had around 50 vs 100 and increasing, at some point it got higher. We had dedicated parties; 5 eles, 2 thievess with 3 mesmers, 3 guardians and 2 warriors, the rest were just fillers but we were all in TS. Eles job was to hold the choke point at the door. nobody, and I mean NOBODY of the enemy team went in without our consent, and few left unscathed (darn downed state…..). We last nearly 40 minutes there, I farmed well over 200 people, we killed (counting downed and ppl who revived) around 450+ people in that entire time, and 7 sieges which we raid quickly to destroy. We lost due to overwhelming numbers and 2 nasty trebs

Basically this is what makes ele so powerful; Ice field (has virtually no cap) , statuc field (virtually no cap) the new Line warding (no cap), Meteor Shower (5 cap but for each meteor, each meteor is independent, good AoE radius now), 2 water fields to support the party, water and fire fields at command.

On TS, where we can coordinate blasts and others, an ele becomes an invaluable asset. I dont like giving this stuff away but since this thread got me started, I might as well.

But yeah, guardian, as far as tagging goes, is the best in mid and melee range.

Magic find should perhaps affect;

Champion loot bag and bags of materials inside contents. Also should reduce chances of getting junk.

It should not affect dungeons chests, and maybe not even champion bags all that much (only 50% of your MF perhaps…?) but as it is right now;

You have RNG for your RNG, basically it takes lots of lcuk to get those bags, and then you have a prefixed % on them, basically MF^2. Also, they should drop a little more often.

Thoughts, improvements?

thats actually low, REALLY low. There was a dude who did 49k in CoF, and thats lvl 75…… on a lvl 80 he would have easily done 55k+

at the time I went there mostly because thats where most of my guild flipped to. I never played on a high population server, so I wasnt sure where to go to, after all I have been playing on the server that has managed to be on 21-23/24 for the last 10 months…….GoM.

Im glad you did not over reward servers that had coverage/zergs, hopefully we will see more people moving back to their servers to support their home server and have fun with their original guilds as opposed to buying/selling spots for a “spot”.

This is coming from a guy that paid a transfer with gems to TC before the league, got into the server and then bought another 1800 gems to get back to my server. I have never been happier with losing so much $. Hopefully we can now have more balanced servers, hopefully

Not with champs. You’re basically guaranteed a bag for each champ kill. Frostgorge champ runs for instance net you an exotic quality bag for every kill, guaranteed. Yet the MF% plays no part on what’s in them.

And I’m not entirely sure MF% plays a part in getting a white bag drop from a normal mob, due to the fact that it’s white and (I’m guessing here) part of the mob’s standard loot table.

thats not the problem though; not everybody runs the champion train, I agree that the bag of loots should be affected by MF or at least drop the mats more often outside…. in 1850 hours played I have gotten no more than 1 Eye….

Hi, I have been using a shatterer build which I brought from sPvP but Im starting to notice that shatterer is not as effective in PvE, so i was wondering whats the best setup for open world and dungeon phantasm build. I cant find many guides that include staff or GS, all of them use sword. Though Im willing to use it on dungeons, Im wondering if mesmers can deal with several mobs at the same time in PvE solo open world. Whats the best setup ?

necros got a lot of ways of doing that, after all; they dnt have to worry about enemy’s armor nor sticking to them to do full damage, it is called conditions, and they melt anyone regardless of what gear you are wearing. Classes with 11k hp such as ele get melted vefore they have a chance to finsih casting any of their unnecesarily long abilities.

For a year I have been trying to find a good reason that these are even still in existence. I have yet to find any reason at all that our drops are in bags. Small, tiny, hard to see and easy to miss bags. Why not true auto loot?

because they would get affected by Magic Find and we cant have nice things.

Linked servers and shared scoring is a great idea that’s been pitched numerous times by different people but never seemed to pick up steam. I’m hoping they’ll be a bit more open-minded to community ideas given the lackluster inaugural season.

Liked this idea but considering that they have yet to solve most basic technical problems such as condition and AoE stacking, which should in theory be less of a problem (i think) than making a very complicated interweb of servers and flow of people, which I can almost guarantee it would be a lot less flow of information AoE and conditions could ever hope to be.

Would love to see something like this though!

I think [hope] I might be bugged, when I use the cauldron from the witch town cloth I can only transform to an ugly frog. Kinda cool and all that but considering the amount of other animals and oozes in the options, I’m wondering why am I locked out from those?

Basically, another low scaling skill, the tradeoff is that for 5 seconds you heal a percentage of damage. 35 secs CD.

Considering how much anet hates healing and specially guardians healing, do you think it will heal more than perhaps 2%?
