Got myself killed with one of those winterday boxes right outside CoF, on the bridge; the knockback tok me all the way down the bridge and I died a quick and inelegant death. My guildy laughed at it and reminded me of it every day that we went through there, so I did the only thing anyone could have done; I waited for him to go through the bridge, and just when he was on the otherside of the box…. BAM, blew him to his death. Probably the funniest and most rewarding way to grief in game.

Pvp Fire Staff recipe?

Im guessing you are reffering to staff elememtalist with some focus on fire? It could possibly be the pyromancer build, or something like that.

You might want to be a little bit more specific though, everyone is running their own build nowadays on eles, you might want to go to the ele forum and ask there for some good fire staff build for PvP.

My personal opinion? Stay away from it. That is, from eles and specially staff. If you are still dead set on staff ele then I recommend you the kamikaze build 10/20/10/0/30, 4 arcanes, focus on blasting staff, having the arcane shield on 25% hp, earth armor on 50% hp, elemental surge. One trick pony, hard, telegraphed, but if you pull it off, you might see some nice action before going down.

funny, isnt it? The class which was supposed to use auras as its mechanic its the one with least access to it. Anyways, reducing the leap fire aura to 2 seconds could do it. Now fire staff #2 has another use other than making the enemy press Q one time. It brings support without the need for water!

We have a volume control for obnoxious sounds [from instruments], we ca also have one to “tag off” from duels, as simple as that. Dont want to duel? Dont do it.

For the rest of the population that do want and rightfully deserve to have fights in pretty places of their convenience with gear/food/stats/observers of their choosing we can give them the option to have duels in peace.

The people that oppose the “duelers defenders” because it bother their gameplay are the epitome of irony since they cant see that they are also using the same argument against themselves by denying other people’s choice of gameplay.

I think I have a pretty good idea of what both sides of the arguments are and why ANet decided to incorporate such content in the game.

First of all, all you people are guilty that this content came in the first place. Your so called “elitism hate” and poor understanding of how other people might feel, and might want to play the game. Im sure many of you have come from previous MMOs such as W*W or Ai*n or Everqu*st or what-have-you, where there are very raid centric content, where elitism can come in very nasty forms. Aet just wanted to create content for the masses, but who are the masses?

You have your average Joe which only plays casually, doesnt give a crap about equipment min-maxing, have selftailored trait builds, some of them are so bad it makes you feel pity, truly. Then you have the self-entittled players who think everything should be handled to them just because they are asking for it. These are the ones that ask for entire dungeon sets per a couple of runs, or that want rewards such as Liadri to be handed just for trying and not beating the content.

Lastly you have the hard working players, the ones that might not have the FoTM build but have researched traits, builds, armor combinations, have tried and asked other people. People that are willing to put their life at risks for maximizing damage. People who will play Liadri over 150 times, try different builds, change their playstyle several times to be able to beat her, just for the challenge of it (and a mini perhaps too).

What happns when the first 2 kind of players clash with the third kind? The so called “elitism” so many people seem to complain about. Whats wrong wanting a party tailored as only zerkers? Dont you have the right to make groups of whatever you want? If I make a party to explore the caves of Maelstrom and someone joins and says “NO, we go do the JP instead”, dont you have the right to deny that rogue person? You people have to grow away from your insecurities, if a party wants to be all damage, then let those people be, dont join them if you don want to meet their expectations. Every now and then I see the “No stacking at spider” groups at AC lfg, and it gets full! If a zerker were to join then those people have the right to boot him, as simple as that.

Now, onto the instance. Once again, players, usually guildmates, or premades that have known eachother for quite a while and have dungeon runs very often, but because they are more than 5 at a time they have to get separated. These people have rights too. You people tend to forget that. THe beauty of Liadri was that; you and only you could decide th outcome. These raid-like content is fine, the problem is all the new, unexperienced, people using low levels to level them up, bad builds, taggers, leechers, overflowers, AF[Kers, commanders who dont have a clue, people who just WONT cooperate almost on purpose. These are what causes these events to fail.

If a group of organizd group such as a large guild want to do the event on their own, let them. They are already trying to do that with overflows but the system is so bad that it is nearly impossible to get people to them, god forbids you get DCed after a 2 hours wait though……..

Tl;DR: Let people associate as they please. Negating people that right makes you no better than them negating your badly built and geared character join on their TS/Zerkero Soldier/Guild only group

the bombs…..then the darn clown car, the unprecedented endless hordes of blind rats capable of ranged attacks which wipe you in about 2 shots, bombers that would put Hiroshima and Nagasaki to shame, bugs and glitches that no longer work there. Basically it is a time sink, and to make i worse, you cant skip it anymore because it tend to appear after fractal 2 or 3, which basically makes it a curse on higher fractal levels.

In order words, its ANet’s way of telling you; “we dont give a f about you, this is what you get for trying to have fun. Good luck finishing this under 40 minutes without having to use a repair canister or go out to repair once”

i will admit though, one of the main reasons i did liadri was the bragging rights with the mini, which i dont even use…… i wanted Teq mini but since it is based on RNG on top of the aforementioned issues with overflow, people afking near the turrets making champions spawns on them and destrying it, commanders who wont tag down or get on TS and then people who simply bring their low lvl characters there to level them up and dont even bother to get on ts or follow instructions and…… sigh, just…forget it.

More Liadris please, less RNG.

One of the reasons I was thinking of making the aura 3 seconds long and having a special effect the 3rd second is because I believe they can be rewarding for both the player and the attacker.

For example, the frost aura is pretty much straight forward, and the idea of the ice cage came from a quest in Mount Maelstron where there is an NPC that gives you a weapon, and after 3 autoattacks you can convert the undead into an ice cage. Either you bare the 2 chills and stop for one second, or attempt to finish off the ele and bear the ice cage trsting your teammates to destroy it, or you can even pre-cast an aoe around yourself preventely to destroy the icecage once it is casted on you. For the ele, this could mean a life-or-death breathing second, a chance to get back on your feet.

The reason why I chose the minor trait on fire to give only 2 seconds is because getting the boon off everytime could be too strong, but if you actively try to, you can atune to fire, cast the glyph and you get 5 seconds aura, enough to make the enemy think it twice to attack you since it wold be burning a potential 5 conditions.

Although the earth one could be slightly too strong, I admit, perhaps the condition reduction could be limited to 30% their duration or something like that, numbers can be tweaked, but it cant be so negligable that it wont be worth it, like the current frost aura.

Liadri was the epitome of bad design.

It has its bads of course, like for example bad camera angle, the dying part and having to walk all the way back, or zergs constantly dropping the F word (fps). But overall, as a boss, it was pretty legit and fun.

Problem; Lack of reliable unique defense mechanism.

Explanation:

When you ask a random player what are the different defense mechanisms of the different classes you will get mixed answers, but most often than not you get this;

-Mesmer; Clones, stealth, daze, chaos armor/storm.
-Guardian; Boons, heals, blinds, aegis, holy heals!
-Warriors; Banners, healing signet, blocks, health pool.
-Necromancers; Large hp pool, DS, chills, fear.
-Thieves; Stealth, teleports, blinds, killing the enemy
-Rangers; dodges, spirits, traps.
-Engis; heals, heals, condition immunity, turrets, blasted heals

But without a second thought, when asked about elementalists these are the 2 only answers you get; heals and cantrips.

For ages the elementalist class has had their entire survival mechanism tied up to these 2 things. Notice how most classes have an innate defensive mechanism, usually one tied directly and strongly to their class mechanics such as clones/stealth for mesmers or stealth.blind for thieves, making them some of the most durable classes despite their deceiving squishiness.

Healing got hit several times with changes to water/arcane, I will mention some of the ones that hit the harder: halved healing on dodges, 10 seconds ICD on dodge heal, 5 ICD condition removal on applying regeneration, [the now reverted] healing signet nerf. This destroyed a lot of synergy such as removing condition on healing rain, or activating 2 cantrips on quick succession for double healing. On top of that, cantrips are vastly outperformed by skills which other professions have on half and even 4 times smaller CD, mist form having a 90 secs CD or armor of earth 75 CD for only 6 seconds of stability and protection in a selfish matter when skills such as guardian shouts can have it in as short as 24 seconds party wide.

Another great hit was the mistform and ether renewal synergy wich was crucial for taking some pressure of you, leaving mist form in a current terrible state where you are actually doing yourself more damage because thats 3 seconds in which you cant do anything at all, conditions still tick, and the enemy can just reset, reposition or precast skills without any worries, making it a newb trap skill.

Another problem is that inherently, cantrips and healing is tied very much to water, and to certain extend arcane which makes the boons last longer, and is much needed for the long recharge time of weapon switch, as well as dodges and the most mandatory blasting staff.

But how do we create a class that can selfsustain itself and still remain true to itself?

Solutions:

Auras and glyphs. Yes, most people already forgot about them, but auras are incredibly awesome. Some of them are very useful, some of them are incredibly useless and sometimes you wish your blast finisher had blasted the water field not the ice field instead.

here are some suggestions;

-Fire trait tree activating a glyph gives you an aura based on attunement for 3 seconds, 5 secs ICD.
Elementalists have little access auras, glyphs are severily underused, usually the elite is used because nothing else is worth it, I would gladly give up my elite for another utility. With this, new builds are open up, synergy with fire/air traits could be introduced too.

-Fire aura burns one condition on you every 1 second per hit, and 1 boon from the enemy every 3 seconds on hit. Change the fire minor trait from instead of burning to instead apply a fire aura for 2 seconds every time you attune to fire.
Why? Because right now fire aura is almost a joke when it comes to defense terms. 1 second burning isnt enough to deter anyone from attacking, neither will they care much about those 3 potential might stacks if you are dead.

-Frost Aura: Cant be crit while this aura is on, remove the 10% damage decrease. applies 3 stacks of chill, on the third one it creates an ice cage much like the one from the frost bow.

-Air aura. Pretty solid, although it would be great to implement super speed on it for around 1 second that it activates.

-Magnetic aura: great vs range, terrible everywhere else. Reduce physical damage by 20%, condition duration of applied conditions by 40%. It is supposed to be the earth-defense aura, yet it proves very innefective vs physical attacks which you would expect “earth” to be able to handle.

These are my suggestions for bringing active defense that is strong and reliable onto the table without turning the table towards DPS. I find that although autoattacks and CD on some skills on eles could use some buffs, I find them in a nearly good state. Giving defense might give them the much needed boost into a functional defense mechanism unique to the class.

Elementalist Staff Changes

Great suggestions, although I would renaming Fresh Fire to Scorching Flames or something more fitting of fire, since when although I think of air as refreshing, I dont think the same thing about fire.

As for suggestions of my own, I still believe one of the core issues underlying the ele’s is the long CDs and cast times. If there is something I dont agree with you is that staff ele is in a good spot. Your proposed changes include nerfs t “compensate” when in reality we need buffs to compensate for the steady overbuffing and powercreep of all classes around us.

My changes would be as follow;

-Autoatatcks more reactive, that is, less animation, more connections.

-Fire damage is relatively ok, but every other element has a complete lack of damage that can be reliably out onto the enemy

-I like making surge unblockable, but I highly doubt they will make this change. I believe what this skill needs is a slight CD reduction, less animation and very small if not at all damage change.

-Gust needs to be fixed, no more stalling. This skill misses even if the enemy isnt actively paying attention to it, basically any small strafe or sudden stop of movement will make it fail, it has worse targetting AI than guardian’s scepter autoattack, and thats a bad enough offense already for such a crucial skill on such a long CD.

-I believe once we fix the problem with the ele innate lack of survival mechanism staf will be in a better place, but as it is, eles tend to die too quickly before they get to do anything, if not, then they are forced to spend EVERY SINGLE CD in order to buy themselves a few more seconds before their almost imminent death. CDs need to be halved for more skills. Yes, and I mean it, halved. 40 seconds CD for a skill that is a do or die and that doesnt work as an “maybe I should use it” but rather “I use it or I certainly die again” then you need to make the ele rewarded for using it, and using it as often as other normal skills on classes behave, which have anywhere between 10-20 secs CD.

-I think most players have already grow away from their ignorance and learned that eles do NOT have any real advantage by having “20 skills”, but rather are inhibited by them at times, perhaps we can start working towards normalizing them to allow them to be on par with other classes’ CD.

Dont get me wrong, I love the concept of Teq and Wurm (although the ads for this one is a little over the top), but you should design some content that didnt rely so much on group effort, random people who wont even join a voicechat for organization that you dont even support ingame (TS or vent or what-have-you).

The reason why I loved Liadri, tried it over 150 times, on lowest of lowest settings, with zergs below me driving my already normal 13 FPS down to 3-4FPS or frozen for a second or two was simply the fact that;

The challenge was limited to me. Only I could decided the outcome of the fight. I didnt need to depend on anyone, or rely on outside resources such as voice chat with a bunch of guester, randoms or people who simply wont join TS or tag down so that our commanders can correctly direct

Please design more Liadris, less Wurms. I love challenge, but dont tie its fun to unjust timers and random people which will screw your chance.

Personally i have been saying this; I have bought all the permanent gathering tools (only the elemental ones, but a full set, nearly bought a second set) , bought the permanent royal pass even though i dont really use it, but I did it to show Anet thta I love permanent, accoutnbound stuff.

Im saying it now; Im willing to pay 1000 gems for a permanent accountboud retraiting thingy. I dont like buying one time use 35 gems stuff, because i dont have that kind of money and I now I will be very tight with it, so tight that i might not use it at all…

When I queue for an arena and get into a hotjoin i the mean while until get called, if I dont finish the game I get not credit or glory for the hotjoin which I was, which sometimes can extend almost to a full duration on slow, not at timepeak days.

Is this normal? And if it its, is it getting fixed soon? It sucks that everytime i queue I know I will lose everything I was doing before that.

Ignore all the “immersion” hypocrites saying that it shouldnt be done, after all, nothing else kills immersion more than seeing a person changing gender and name 4 times in 10 minutes, yet, you dont see this people complaining about it.

The only reason it has not been done is simple; too much programming behind it. They would have to reset your personal story, the way NPCs in the world treat you, cultural armors acquired, order and amrors, etc etc etc. Too much work for Anet, although I dont doubt they might be working already on it since they are well aware of how much money they are losing for not having this feature.

Just keep waiting for it nad dont lose hope, at the pace Anet works it should be in game anywhere before 2017, heck, even before Gw3 !

cond damage needs to be better then crit damage for 1 serious reason and its called condition cap wich utherly limit the number of effective condition user in a party to 1 or 2 at best with limited damage. Theres no point running more then 1 condition user in a party so you will likely get to run 4 zerker (Might also be support or control) and 1 cond user per party for maximum damage effectiveness.

Likely theil offer you to switch your item stat on zerk items after nerfing zerker

Once again, sounds like a problem on their end, and moreoever, sounds like your problem. The cap is not removed, hhaving 2 or more people with condition damage being capped wont change. In fact, you yourself just caught your own willy on the door with this change, because the cap will still be there and now you have to pump more damage to get the boss down.

The community will always find the path of least resistance to a problem. If condition were to be stronger then the condition meta in PvE would begin, and you see endless threads of people flooding the forums asking for conditions to be removed, and allow builds such as direct power to have a place. “LFG condi only, ping gear” etc. If you dont address the real problem; PvE AI, then the entire thign will go on in a cyclical way.

Like I said, you are just happy out of spite, and want YOUR build, condition damage to be effective, because being the best build in PvP and WvW wasnt enough, you have to bury down what other players worked on and enjoy. I dont particularly enjoy conditions, they are too slow, passive and boring for me. I prefer hands-on-action stuff.

Like I said, until the core issue isnt fixed, all we are doing is throwing away the couch.

My guess is zerker addict will rage like a skooma addict for about a few week because we removed their Power play drug

The reason nobody wanted conditions or healers or tanks in a dungeon run is simple; nobody likes a slow run if it can be avoided.

As a guy that has always been a healer in all MMOs he has played, Im very disappointed at what they are doing. I will still run zerker only parties, but now I will enforce it because I dont want to watch an entire party group apply 2-3 conditions and start running around like headless chicken for 2 hours waiting for the boss to finally tick to death. Im sorry, but spending 2 hours in a 20 minutes run is not my definition of fun and time management.

I will only accept this change when condition damage needs 3 stats to make it do damage, when it is affected by armor and when the CD for reapplying it is the same or higher than condition cleansing skills. Also when the mosters are scaled down to fit the same speed zerker were doing before.

Whatever, I wont be another barking dude saying" i will quit if this gets implemented" etc etc. I will see it with very skeptical eyes and decide from there. I just really hope Anet takes into consideration the amount of time, and real money (that is $$) some people like me have put into their equipment and looks. Hours of gameplay, including dungeons, laurels, money to buy transmutation stones and items from the gemstore to fit my preferred looks among other things.

There are plenty of games out there that want my money and to make sure their customers are happy, and want to please those who are not. I dont think I have seen to many companies hit the pleased ones so that the sour and bitter are on the same level as them. Lets see how it all plays out, perhaps we are just over reacting, but I will NOT settle for a zerker nerf without heavy compensation

This is a thread a made a few months ago and go highly upvoted, it has sinc ethen been buried and I deicded to bring it where it matters, so I will copy parts of it on here.

Anyways, I want to ask whats Anet stand on Backstab currently. While I understand that thieves dont have all that much going on for themselves when it comes to team support as we know it, Im wondering if Anet is really ok with thieves hitting anywhere from 8k-10k ( in PvP) or 14-16k (in WvW) with a single ability that unlike most classes with such a strong hitting spell, this one lacks obvious animation, cannot be blocked and does not reveal the thief until it is dispensed. Neither block/evade/blind will apply reveal and negate the damage.

Currently I believe that if the class is supposed to have that much damage, then I suggest we move that damage to other skills that require at least some kind of risk. Sure if you are a 20k hp warrior then 9k might not be all htat much to you, but if you are a valkiry/zerker guard, ele or mesmer than a 9k hit will take more than half your life ( 80% of your life if you are guard/ele) and thats every 4 seconds.

Please dont bring the “but thieves are squishy! spam all your long CDs in the hope that it might hit them”. It is not fun to be on the receiving end, it is not fun for any observer (I can assure you many people will close any stream if all you see if a thief one shooting anyone in any 1v1 scenario and disengaging any time their health drop a bit).


Thats for PvP, now as for WvW, I dont think 14-16k backstabs are balanced, as show in this video, by a person who was by himself, no buffs from other classes, no prior 25 might stacks, just straight up burst to lvl 80s:


I believe we can do better than this. Im all for counterplay.

are we talking about traits’ effectiveness or just simply passive traits?

Because i can tell you right of the bat yuo can scratch every single ting of of the ele section if we are talking about effectiveness:

1; Cannot control it, has long CD, too long CD, burn is around melee range. Veredict: 2/10

2; Definitely not a grandmaster trait. In case you didnt know, this isnt like that mesmer skill which copies the CC onto the enemy. Only effective agaisnt maybe thieves with basilisk. We dont have many (almost any) CC from which benefice from with the 20% damage. Has it uses, but very niche, very very niche. 4/10

3; Terrible, terrible, terrible skill. 10% hp from a class that has the lowest hp and armor rating in the game, a class known for being the squishiest of squishiest classes. Only effective agaisnt a rabid necro in a 1v1. If you cant do 1.1k damage to an ele with 2 autoattacks or 1 skill, then sir, l2p. Overall, terrible grandmaster skill, needs to be removed, agreed. 2/10

4; Probably the only one who is truly effective and amazing. Threshold is good enough so that when it activates isnt too late, the effects, although too short lived (6 seconds protection and stability in a 90 seconds) is too little considering it has the same CD of the cantrip. Basically, this isnt any more powerful than a guardian shout that gives the same effect party wide on 26 secs CD. only 10 points needed for it so; 8/10

5- 3 seconds of regen when critically hit, internal cd of 3 secs? Great on bunkers, absolutely useless on anything else really. If you cant outdamage 3 ticks of regen pver 3 seconds, that is 390 healing over 3 seconds, with 1 crit…. or do more than 390 damage over 3 seconds…… l2p issue. 4/10

6- Great trait, I will give you that much. Saved my butt vs thieves a bunch of times. Necessary until they fix ele’s survavility issues. 8/10

7- I wont even dignify that withan answer…

Anyways, there are worse traits than those, and as noted before PU is missing there. I find your list a little bit skewed, in fact, very skewed.

Also clarify, is this about effectiveness or about theory crafting?

Very well presented, and I agree in parts with it. On the heartseeker part I completely agree. As an ele main, I find thieves incredibly cheap and OP. HS and BS are 2 skills that completely negate any counterplay whatsoever and anyone with at least 2 fingers and a half sized brain can dominate easily with these. I dont mind playing a class that is difficult to do well with, but when i have to constantly mind myself, my camera, my CDs, my skills, my positioning, my defenses, and then comes this thief out of nowhere with a 10-12k backstab followed by 3-4 HS there is little to nothing you can do with a baseline hp of 11k. At the end of the day I find HS balanced around easiness, and I prefer HS over BS any day. (I do believe BS does need some heavy tunning down though, damage wise, and blinds/evade/blocks should reveal and apply revealed to a thief trying to BS you)

However, the proposed change IS a nerf in of itself, but a good one, which might be met with angry responses. I remember watching a video which I have posted several times before about balancing for skills (edit: somebody posted it already it seems), basically there are skills and classes which are “easy mode” like thieves and warriors, where the skill cap is so low you might hit your knees while praying on your bed side, but these are required. What I do agree on is that certain skills need some balancing on numbers, not only mechanism, and it should not be justified just because bad players need them as crutch, because on the hands of pros it becomes a nightmare. (Im looking at S/D thieves, D/D thieves/ Hambow/ zoo pet/mm or condi necro/ condi or bunker engi)

Im making 2 gold a day from this every day and I sure prefer that than having to sell a full stack 250 to a vendor for a mere 17.5 silver just because the darn bank couldnt take it anymore and it was bothering me not being able to deposit on collectibles.

GvG aside. Im one of those people that say; Who cares if somebody did it before? Im sure somebody else did it before that in a slightly different way. Nothing, absolutely nothing is new, everything has already been invented, all you currently have are spin offs and alterations.

Sure there are “innovative” things, but if something has worked in the past, whether it was your own previous game or some other relic of the past, then try to find the core thing that made it enjoyable and add it to your own game. Like the article said, we dont want to have a reinvented wheel, we just want one that works.

I keep hearing “grinding” and “farming” from you guys, but doing dungeon is not my definition of grind. I spice things up quite the bit with Coe and Arah, or CoF, or wht have you. I also dont do dungeons every day, on top of that, it can only be done once a day.

You guys are taking this through the wrong tangent, and here is my prove;

prioritize fun over profits.

WvW for fun one day, farming gold the next.

You see, THIS is what I think is wrong. I have fun playing WvW, and I also have fun looking at my character, and like most things in this game; it costs gold. Is it really ok that anyone has to extend the time it would take me to get something by double ?(assuming that it is a day off making profits, which would double the time to get said item)

You know, many of you complain about not having enough people in WvW, yet having “high population” servers;

you are the ones shoving us away with comments like yours

Things like going into WvW with my dungeon master and legendary on gets me comments like; “grinder” or “go back to PvE you PvE player” or “PvE is easy, get out of here before you become a rally bait”.

There is nothing wrong with making money and enjoying a game mode. I enjoy it as much as the next player, but the part of being set back is not fun, and after a while, after seeing people with legendaries, ascended armors, cool skins, etc etc, it starts taking a toll.

All Im saying is; make it so that WvW attracts more people, not repells them, or else we will end up with even emptier servers. The AP and reward thing worked, you saw how many started playing WvW, for whatever reason, many of them actually enjoyed it. Once it was all over, when they saw the had no profits, they moved on back to PvE where the gold and LS is at.

Fun is subjective, and as much as people find PvP fun, if you decide to include PvP with PvE, dont forget the PvE part….. specially since we already have a designated PvP and a designated PvE side of the game.

@ the comment that said about how rock/scissor/paper is “all pvp mmo out there”, I remember spending hours watching people or videos of good players doing duels outside stormwind; warrior vs frost mage, and other skewed and unlikely duels. True ‘near’ balance is reached when both parties have an almsot equal chance of beating eachother if they know their game well. So no, it can be done, the condescending excuse that all MMO’s pvp is r/s/p is just that….an excuse.

As a 2300 (actually 228x, but I like to round up) ex fellow wow player, I will tell you this;

Run while you can. Jokes asides, the balance in this game is kinda bad. This is a game of rock scissor paper except that we only have paper and scissors and almost everyone is scissors except elementalists, where they have the privilege of being a wet tissue paper.

WIth that being said, the balance isnt all that bad. Combat is very exciting and there is dodges, after getting used to dodges I couldnt come back to WoW, it is THAT much of a crutch. Another great thing about this game is; no stun locks, except for a broken warrior build that stunlocks you and kills you mid way through the combo, other than that, CC in this game is ok. No resources to manage, Im divided about this, as a guy who likes big, powerful spells, the no managing part means spells are very weak and spammable, taking a little bit of fun away from going agaisnt some annoying spammable abilities such as conditions .

As far as rogue style goes, thieves are currently one of the strongest PvP classes (despite what some bad players might tell you). Im looking at either S/D or D/D gameplay. Incredibly rewarding, incredibly easy to pick up and dominate with. Unlike WoW, this game lacks an absolute counter to stealth and not even damage, killing or knowing where you are will ever take you out of it. You might be able to literally 2 shoot people before they have time to see whats going on since some of their skills allow for easy, out-of-the-blue (stealth), spammable, targetted, unblockable skills to land without any concerns.

All I can tell you is; the balance in here is nowhere near WoW ever was, not even during those dark days of Vanilla. Good luck on your endeavors and welcome to the slaughter house.

EDIT: anyways, as far as PvP goes, it is still too early in the game to be any balanced, but we might get there somewhere between 2-3 years from now, who knows. I highly recommend you to try PvE out, this game a very solid PvE and quite enjoyable for damage dealers such as you. I played resto druid so I still havent found my support niche thing, staff ele is the closest I could get to that gameplay.

Simply put; no profit.

Before you jump at my throat let me explain myself.
I consider myself mostly a “PvE” player simply because thats where I spend most if not all of my time. I was just another of those players that when the WvW season came, i only went there to get my achievements in hopes that it would have some shiny skin that would otherwise not be attained, a one time opportunity. I even went to TC and made that my “first logging home server” for the season, only to transfer a week later to my real home server so I can continue playing with my guild and friends, which in the end backshoot me since TC ended up losing and the rewards were crappy, meaning I lost 3600 gems bought with $$ for a couple of greens and a dolyak mini I dont use. My fault, not really sorry about it, I just decided to take my cahnces, better than being sorry about it later.

What Im trying to say is this; I run 7 dungeon paths daily for about ~15-20 gold after selling mats and turning in tokens. Takes me about 2 hours to do that, give or take depending on the PuG God’s mood. I have a legendary and currently saving 800 gold for a precursor for the next one.

I go to WvW and all of this gets set back, in fact, more often than not I end up coming out negative or neutral after 3-4 hours of gameplay. Yes, it is fun, but it is also fun looking at my characters, and currently, unless you are following a karma train zerg for about an hour or more, you wont make more than a few silvers in that same period of time, IF you ignore repair costs.

I LOVE wvw, but I dont like being set back.

sPvP became profitable, not really, but if you enjoy it (not me anymore, I still heavily dislike the game’s balance issues) then you can still make some acceptable profit for doing stuff you like. Why is WvW so unprofitable? Is it a sin that I want to gear myself with gear and weapons of my choice without having to play 12 hours a day following a zerg?

Basically what im about to say is what the poster above me said.

I make around 12-18 gold daily on about 2 hours. Of course I also do some other stuff that give me money but if I were to share them then it would lose its value because it has the more people do it, the more ineffective is.

But as far as 12-18 gold is concerned, here is hat you can do:

AC p1-3 (p2 is you want to risk having a group that might not know what to do)
SE p1-3
TA u & f
HoTW p1

(1.5×2)+ (1×2) + (1×2) + (1)= 8 gold just from daily chest.

Add 25 silver(actually 26.5 but too lazy to calculate that) for dungeon completition. .25 × 7

8+1.75= ~10 gold. Add in the champion bags giving money and that could go up to nearly 11 gold. Thats just from the raw gold. Then add all the materials you get such as cloth, 2 silver a piece, rares, salvage materials, and guaranteed materials from champion bags.

Easily anywhere between 2-3 more gold. At this point we are sitting at ~14 gold, 12 gold is really unlucky. Sell the dungeon tokens for rares or exotics and salvage them for ectos.

There you go, ~15 gold or more per day doing a series of easy, non-contested dungeons. My best advice? Dont be a “baddie” and run a gear other than berzerker. Chances are that you were being kicked for not knowing the dungeon and having bad gear/weapon/traits setup which can be easily spotted by experienced dungeon runners. Nobody kicks for wiping or dying. If you join a “exp zerker speed run” group, follow the rules or get out. Dont be a bearbow or a condi-any-class, or tank/healer-guard, otherwise you will see the boot more often that you want.

Nobody denies how good damage dealer guardians are in PvE. Now, PvP is a different story indeed. Triple meditation build is probably the closest thing guardians have to a functional DPS build, but they still lack some of the fundamental things which will not let them shine until they are fixed;

-Low hp, too low.
-Lack of follow up, virtually anyone can escape unless they really want to die.
-Low hp and lack of condition cleansings as a DPS guard as compared to bunker which make them melt in a sec in melee without accomplishing much.

The balance team has to be careful though, you tilt the balance too much to defense and you have an unkillable mosters, hence the current state of guardians; where they do very well as bunker but are atrocious as damage dealers in PvP.

As for PvE guardians, their damage vs non moving targets is superb and their hp is fine.

I think this had to do with all the changes guardians have had; example, back in release aegis worked every other hit, and we have better base health. Now the nerfs followed and everyone got REALLY buffed, basically powercreeped. Guardians need more active defense though, no more hp, specially a DPS guard.

How could I show Anet that I want changes on the ele when I cant stop playing it?

As frustrated as I am in PvP, I cant stop playing mine in PvE. It is fun, refreshing, fun to watch, epic. Yet, because Im putting hours into it and basically tellng Anet “hey, ele is fine, dont do anything about it, after all, Im still playing it” , right?

After all the time, money and gold I have put into mine I cant put it into the shelf so that ANet sees my pain.

Is there anyone else facing this dilemma? Are we cursed to bear witness to our favorite class being ignored into oblivion, where it gets nerfed a little bit more every patch, a few unnecesary changes that hurt more than do good, and watch every other class get buffed?

What can we do as a community to fix this?!

I find the classes so unbalanced that playing anything along the lines of elementalists makes me only want to pick my liver apart with eyebrow pincers while holding a hot coal.

In fact, my level of enjoyment is directly proportional to how much time I spend outside PvP.

I will tell you why I hate soloqueue and basically any queue;

Random hambow/zoo pet/condi or mm necro/S-D thief or D-D thief/condi-bunker engi comes, with basically no idea of what they are doing, they press 2 buttons, the yawn and they walk away to the next post over my dead body.

The game balance is so cheesy not even McDonald wants to get their hands on it.

To top it off, what really kittenes me off, what truly makes me lose faith in the sPvP community; those players actually believe they won because they were skilled. SO basically you have 5v5 teams where 8 or 9 of those people play a cheese build, and more often than not, as if my luck wasnt bad enough; my team is the one that gets the elementalist……….

Im currently only missing The Legend…… last night it was at 820 gold. I currently have 3 gold because of all the other t6 mats that I finished buying yesterday. It isnt my first legendary, I hav Sunrise and Im loving every second of it, I also started this new legendary a little over 2 months ago and already managed to get everything down but the precursor.

Normally I make anywhere between 10-15 gold a day, sometimes 20 gold if I get lucky, but I must admit that it is rather ridiculous. I have to run a very long string of dungeons in order to get those gains, sometimes I dont have the time and can only do half or less, which makes it even worse.

I have also saved all mats which Im hoping will be used in crafting the precursor such as 425 daily crafting mats and quartz. Im guessing that precursor crafting will not only be incredibly grindy, but also incredibly time-gated to the point where I wouldnt be surprised if it needs 250 of those ascended wood mat that you can only craft once a day.

Personally, unlike most people (apparently), I actually like seeing people with legendary, specially the same one Im wearing. People are very selfish and eccentric and get the legendary not because they like it, but because they are rare. These people are the worse for that matter and the ones that oppose all the good changes.

Legendaries should be for your own enjoyment, not other people’s feelings of entitlement. OP, I agree with you, precursor SHOULD be easier to get. To the plank all those who oppose because getting a legendary is the only way for them to feel unique. People should get a legendary cuz they like it (like me), they should give them an option on the UI to hide all other people’s legendaries, they wont have to worry about it anymore.

I guess most ele players, including pros who have rerolled to either warrior or thieves, as well as those eles which participated in MLG…oh wait…none participated, and no team with an ele has ever won in a any championship ever since, as well as all those players that while not pro or ranking in the 100s still have been playing ele as their main since release , they are just all bad, not-knowers who only “perceive” that eles are greatly underwhelming, overshadowed, ineffective, stomped and humiliated.

@all those laughing at the “scripted Ai” comment, they were referring to bosses’ mechanics in dungeons. You cant deny soloing lupi is a lot more challenging than many cheese build fights 1v1. Dungeons bosses (some of them) are fun to fight agaisnt, thats what scripted Ai means.

As for why I dont like PvP in this game as a whole; Balance. At least in WvW you can work around your stats, foods, traits and bring something that fits your playstyle better. Also, I have a legendary and almsot completed another, as wel as looks I can only dream of having in PvP since most of them as skins I can only use once and of course I decided to use it on the part of the game that matters; PvE.

Lastly, while I dont mind the urrent game mode, I would sure love to see something like team death match or Raid the castle/Defend the castle with simple AI adds, capture the flag too like spirit watch but with the focus on the flag instead of bases.
