5. Make the outmanned buff affect the actual WvW. Like give 15% health for outmanned team. (Usually this would just counter the fact that the other team gets 15% health increase from the orbs anyways.) So on top of that, could give some additional buff, like 5% more damage.
Okey, so. While I don’t have anything against nightcapping, it still creates problems when combined with other issues. I am sure everyone in Desolation has noticed that we got the outmanned buff half the day, and only like 5 minutes worth of queue during the peak hours. Just few weeks ago had hours worth of queues and I’m rather convinced that we haven’t lost all our population, people just don’t find WvW fun anymore.
Why? Well, no matter what we do, the map belongs to Arbostone in the morning. Makes capping stuff and wasting money on siege and upgrades rather pointless.
So few ideas to fix the problems:
1. Let Canadians have their own, mixed English/French server. I know some people claim that there are no Canadians on the French servers, but that would mean no French speaking Canadians play the game. (And what about that one, especially large Canadian guild in Arbostone?) Sure, every French in Arbostone is thinking that “Oh, I never see any Canadians here” but guess what, they aren’t playing that much when you are, and even if they were, they speak French so you can’t tell them apart from the rest of the pop.
2. Scale the fortification upgrade costs when the server is losing. Something like LoserScore/WinnerScore*fixedPrices. Could also lower the cost of siegeweapons, but not quite that much or the people will start stacking them when the scores are “just right”.
3. Make the outmanned buff affect the actual content of the WvW maps. Currently, its just encouraging to do PvE stuff in WvW, which is nice way to get people to stay in WvW, but its sure is not helping to try to get them to focus on the actual objectives.
4. Discourage people playing on servers that are not meant for their timezone (at least when an appropriate server is available.) Some people might have some “friends” they’ve met on the internet on totally opposite timezone, but either they don’t actively play with them anyways, or are very rare cases.
The discouraging could be done by:
-WvW health & damage -5-15% depending on how far off they are. (6-12 hours)
-WvW magicfind -X%
-WvW minimum Queue 1 minute
Or alternatively:
1. Stop matching international and nationality servers against each other. Would solve the problem for EU at least.
Judging from the amounts of damage… You merely just started a warrior and started complaining?
So… should the auto-attack damage be brought down then?
I like how every price example in this thread is completely outrageous. I doubt anyone would buy Omnom pie for 1.5g
But yeah, other than that, it does suck that while selling, you can only view lowest offer and highest buy-offer. Every time I sell something, I need to search the item in the TP to check the actual buyer and seller lists for actual prices.
How about while selling items take the highest offer from buyers from the sellers, get the 3 mode’s, display the lowest. (That is, 3 offers with the largest quantities.) Could also display the current lowest offer as a backup to give the optimal idea of the items actual and current worth.
What do you mean? People are trying to help you level up and you’re reporting them for fun? Doesn’t sound very nice thing to do.
(Or is the nature of these messages different than what I understand by powerleveling? To me, powerleveling is a high-level player teaming up with low-level player to help him on his journey. Which should be perfectly fine and definately something you’d report.)
@MrGorkajuice
Well, while you might feel like the information is hidden, I do not. While I might feel like having even more information crammed in the GUI that wasn’t designed for that would look ugly, you might not.
So I guess our opinions differ.
However, the simple fact remains that even though there are currently scores of people who do not know about the sales tax, most of them are not interested in using TP for profit anyways. And those who are, will quickly learn even if its not stuffed to their face every time they’re making transactions.
(As we can see, most of the people here didn’t know, noticed and learned.)
However, maybe add some Trading Post tutorial NPC somewhere near the TP in LA, so people who are unsure can get the info in game, if they can’t be bothered to do a simple search.
To be honest, iFail to understand the need for any extra info in the TP GUI.
If you want to argue about whether “Practically everyone knows”… Well, I’d say if we look at the people who actually use the TP for buy & sell, yeah, “practically everyone knows”. If we take your average player who just doesn’t care about the TP, maybe occasionally throws in some equipment because he can’t bother to vendor it, no, they don’t know about it.
Why pester the guys who do care for the sake of the people who don’t? Keep it simple, keep it efficient.
(edited by Fred Fargone.3127)
Ruin the game for 90% of the players so the 5 or 10% of maket enthusiasts can be happy.
GOOD IDEA!!!How does it ruin the game for 90% of the players? The change would simply mean that instead of comparing every drop to your current equipment, and swapping when you find something you like, you would press “O” and check the market for equipment that’s actually of use to you. It would actually help people keep their equipment up to date.
What exactly do random drops add to the game that you find lessened by removing them?
Because I don’t want to spend my hard earned gold on gear I will out-level in an hour. I’d rather “hunt” for my gear, or find drops and replace my old equipment with the new drops. That way I don’t have to blow my money on items that will be obsolete every time I level up. Plus, if the drop is worse than what I currently have equipped, I can vendor it or sell it on the TP and earn money without having to farm my life away.
Okey, having read through the thread and thinking about it. While its true that GW1 had no armor drops, I guess having 4x the amount of levels kinda forces the devs to keep the armor drops in there.
However
How bout removing any level 65+ (or 70+) gear from the drops? When you’re high-level, you can grind your teeth for few levels and buy that level 80 armor or decide to spend gold on playermade level 65+ armor. Or karma on cultural armor, whichever you prefer. That way, most people will still get that lotto feeling, enjoy being casual but all the while balancing out the economy a bit in the favor of the crafting professions.
(Yeah, I’m one of those people who started leatherworking but quickly found out that mats are hard to get and its totally not worth it in the end.
Ended up going cook / jaweller)
To be honest, I think it should spread the order (at random) over as many offers as possible, however with minimum of 5% of the of the ordered stacksize.
That way people could just sell at the going rate, and not start undercutting because they think their offer will never get out of TP.
Then again, even if I hate people undercutting me, thats the way economy works and I’m not really complaining about that. I just think the economy would be more stable if the TP sold items equally from offers.
What do you guys mean 10% sales tax is not public knowledge?
Just type
/wiki trading post
in game and read the third line. That is pretty much on the level of your eyes when you open the page.
Its not hidden, ya guys just weren’t looking for any info before you started to rush into things.
Reminding of the 10% sales tax every time you sell something would: a) Look dumb on the GUI, b) Be rather annoying
In every game, there will always be some super rare items in the end that were in the game at some point but later become hard/impossible to get. This was so in GW1, and I do hope this will be the case in GW2, since it adds sort of real-life like antique collections to the game.
Ugh… I started reading… Then scrolled down. Where is the obligatory wall of text warning? Well, Guild Halls is what we miss.
Howdy potsherds.7916,
You seem to have a problem with chat, a big problem. I saw your flurry of posts on the Guildwars 2 twitter page.
Unfortunately, there are always going to be folks out there that are racist, sexist, etc. They express their opinions freely online and don’t think about repercussions.
That being said, I think you are at the other extreme end of that. You freely express your opinion to the point that it becomes annoying and impossible to address. You’ve expressed your opinion of Guildwars, of the people playing, and have made extreme estimates regarding the quality of the staff and their ability to identify discriminatory behaviour.
While your motive is just, and you’re trying to right a wrong, you’ve essentially transferred from a problem solver to a problem starter. Give the good folks at Anet a chance to act on the reports, and implement new policies. The game is new, and they have taken aggressive steps far exceeding those that I’ve seen within other games.
That being said, I hope you stick with the community, and keep up your diligence in reporting folks that break the EULA. However, for your own credibility I hope you tone down your Anti-Guildwars2-Bigot spam via Twitter, use the ignore function, and enjoy the game.
Cheers!
Jify
You nailed what I was thinking.
If hating is such a crime, are you allowed to hate haters?
Here is some reference material: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg7RYaoORaY (Also note how she didn’t even pop frenzy…)
And don’t say, that her opponents just sucked, they were stunned most of the time and then died. No stun removal = no chance.Terrible dodge timings. Also, if you don’t bring stun removal, you’re asking to be CC’d to death.
Don’t blame 10000000B for the inability of others.
Well, warrior shouldn’t have any “Dodge or die” skills. Those skills should be reserved for bossmobs. Not for a playable profession.
And since you only get 3 utility skills, if you don’t have a weap with stun removal, you got to waste an utility skill for something that only is effective in few scenarios. Like having a RTL group take Maelstorm just because they might run into an eleball or something.
I’m stubborn, so I still play an elementalist. However, it seriously bugs me to know that while I got to do some amazing keyboard workout, other classes can just faceroll to be about as effective.
@Amnon
Thats the point most people make: With ele, you need to make amazing combos to be about as effective as a tief spamming 2 on their keyboard. Thats not balanced.
@Mangocheesecake
Uhm… well, EU players playing on EU servers get lag too. :P
I know its not my machine, 8GB mem, quad core @ 3.4 GHz and Radeon 6970 graphics.
I know its not my internet connection, my downloads come at around 8Mbps
I lag at random, more often during America prime. That HAS to be server side. (Unless someone is trying to DDoS me, which I seriously doubt.)
That and the server time is 10 hours less than local time. (Making it… GMT -7 or GMT -8, not sure about DLS) Anyways, that basically means that the server is on the other side of the world and unless European Union has been seriously expanding lately, the server location is outside of EU.
For anyone considering this, I would like to point out something:
If you think, that EU servers are less laggy than american servers would be for EU players, think again. EU servers are probably hosted in the same room than the American servers. (Judging from the “Server time” being GMT -8 or something (don’t wanna do math atm) for Desolation) so it doesn’t actually make any difference whether you’re on EU or American server.
Not particularly new, did about the same build in BWE2 myself. Oh, and note that the speed +10% is only applied in combat. (Same goes for the trait) which sucks. =/
Role: All arounder in PvE, Taxi/Support in WvW, not for sPvP.
Usage:
My special move, FargoneSpeed
Start casting eruption on your feet, while that is casting, swap to air and immediately cast static field on top of eruption, hit arcane wave and windborne speed. You, and allies that are standing nexto you got some 40 seconds of Swiftness. Swap back to earth. While moving, switch between air and earth attunements. When the static field is recharged, go back to earth, cast eruption as far ahead of you as you can (you’re moving) and then throw static field on top of it. You might need to slow down for a sec and wait for eruption to go off. Don’t forget the Arcane Wave. (If you’re being chased, forget eruption and just go with arcane wave.)
The Kittycatty -long speedboost of this build makes it perfect for moving troops in WvW, though it does require some brains to be applied onto allies. If no brains are avaible, go to a voice chat. Any allies with blast finishers can contribute to the speedboosts too.
Usage – Combat in PvE
Gather mobs around you. Cast long lasting fields, don’t move. (Oh, but GW2 is all about moving! No, you want them to take damage. And you want them to be very close to you.) When the mobs start to be at around 10-30% hp (depending on how many there are) go down. Yes, go near death. You will get an extra lavafont in. And you will be invulnerable for about long enough for you to rally. And go down and be invulnerable and rally again. (No lavafont from that, but thats how it usually goes.)
If you want to have alot of loot in events where a bunch of people are killing every mob-ball that spawns in few seconds: running into the mobball, throwing in arcane wave and briefly going to downed state usually works. (I get a lot of loot.)
NOTE: I go down alot, but I rarely die. If you die, you’re obviously doing something wrong. Going down is half of my strategy. (Tho if I don’t go down, I’m not going to cry about it.)
Combat in WvW: Don’t solo. Unless you’re scouting for your team. Then solo.
You can defend castles and towers just fine with all the long-range AoE. You can also take out enemy siegeweaps from walls with meteor shower. (Hit and run, one won’t do.) and elementalist is about as efficient in taking out siegeweaps as a Mesmer. (Though mesmer has slightly longer reach due to clones)
Using speedboost can easily get your party behind the enemy lines, making an elementalist valuable addition to any commando team wanting to cap that far-into-enemy-territory supply camp.
And remember. Staff is a long-ranged weapon. Use it as a long ranged weapon in WvW. Lava-font-rally won’t work on most humans.
Also, while running away you can randomly cast frozen ground and whatnot. Going through the attunements for fun also gives: Regeneration, Protection, Swiftness and Might. Don’t forget that while running away. (You need protection and regen if you’re trying to get out of battle, but most important is swiftness. So swap between water-air and earth.)
(edited by Fred Fargone.3127)
Well… Go for warrior, thief or about anything other than elementalist. I’m level 78 and its just too much work in WvW or sPvP. I seriously do hope they balance ele a bit. ( I don’t mind working the combos and whatnot, but the amount of work put into the chains just should be reflected in the damage inflicted. Currently a thief spamming “2” is about as good as a pro elementalist running, jumping, dodging and being amazing with the keyboard. )
Wait, was staff for support? Gee, I’ve been using it for damage like an idiot. :P
No, seriously. I’ve been playing from 1 to 78 with staff. I only die 1-2 times while clearing a map. And I rarely see other people around. What do you mean “support”?
In PvE, you can kill an melee NPC before they even get close.
If there are more melee NPC’s, I tend to aggro a bunch and kill them all at the same time for extra copper/faster renowns/whatever. If there are ranged NPCs, well, earth → reflect works nicely. And ofcourse you can group them together by positioning yourself correctly. (E.g. “go behind a rock and have them all come stand at the corner. Then kill them with AoE”)
Oh, this video… so true. I’ve been trying to play elementalist without using such exploits… Trying. Man, I like making combos and whatnot. But…
Maybe I should just ditch the class that obviously isn’t quite cutting it?
Hmm… I think Frodamn has pretty much gotten into the heart of the problem with Elementalist.
I played ele in GW1, I play ele in GW2. I’ve tried other classes, and yes, they are way easier to play than ele. Ele can achieve same results as some other class, but with around double or triple effort.
Lets have a player that is a complete noob playing an warrior, and a semi-good player playing an elementalist. Now, the battle will be tough, but the semi-good player will probably win.
However, what about having two pro players? The warrior would beat the Kittycat out of the elementalist in few moments, unless the elementalist is having a serious keyboard workout. (Nobody can keep it up for long before being dehydrated tho.)
Same goes for pretty much every other class too…
So far the only thing I’ve found that an elementalist can do better than anyone else is: Scouting in WvW. The amount of swiftness elementalist can stack is… well. Around a minute? Just try to keep up with me. And as if that wasn’t enough, I can also stun/slow down the people chasing me without slowing down my self. So yeah, doing pretty good on the running part. However, scouting rewards no XP and no silver, making it pretty much a useless niche. (If I had a copper for every enemy that I saw that are not in range of any other ally, that would be more than enough.)
Oh, and ele is semi-good at destroying enemy siege weapons. And no, no reward for that either.
Why is every thread like this just a bunch of people asking for more buffs, obviously not aiming for balance?
Well, I agree on toning down HB damage tho. Its getting rather annoying in WvW to play any squishy class and being forced to dodge whenever a warrior with greatsword appears.
Actually, a warrior with a hammer and a greatsword can pretty much:
1. Stun the target,
2. Jump to target
3. Pretty much kill the target before stun wears out.
4. Even if the target manages to escape, there are plenty of skills which can close the distance very quickly.
So yeah, that doesn’t sound OP at all.
Here is some reference material: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg7RYaoORaY (Also note how she didn’t even pop frenzy…)
And don’t say, that her opponents just sucked, they were stunned most of the time and then died. No stun removal = no chance.
I think 34 is a troll. All you need, for the moment, is 8 character slots. Of course, I do think you can have infinite amount of character slots. (Or maybe like 254 ?)
Well, I do understand why its fairly handy for the devs only to follow one thread, and I’m okey with that. However, I do think that the suggestions should be allowed to have their individual threads for the sake of community input on ideas.
I mean, we can post a copy of the suggestion in the collection thread. Maybe with a link to the individual, community talk thread in case the devs want to consider the value of an interesting suggestion.
The game is pretty easy as it is. I don’t really wish to see any more pampering. I mean, its better as random than getting everything handed to you. As it is now, it supports in game, player run economy as you need to consider buying the weapons and whatnot for your chosen profession and sell the weapons unuseable by your profession.
So, I was about to post this in my suggestion thread, but apparently, was around 30 seconds too slow.
I understand the need for collecting suggestions into one, well organized thread. I think thats good in the developers point of view.
However, that thread does not, and should not, allow conversation about the suggestions. Alas, any improvement ideas on the suggestions are lost. Therefore, I feel that when a suggestion does have an individual thread, it should not be locked just for the sake of gathering the suggestions in one place. (Yes, a copy of my suggestion was also posted in the collection thread.)
There is a summary at the bottom for the convenience of the people too busy to read the wall of text. This is the copy of the suggestion originally posted in its own topic for conversation purposes, as this topic does not allow conversation. Therefore, I do not feel like this being a double post.

So, as we all know the devs are pretty busy with… everything… at the moment. However, there are a lot of players who want to get in WvW, standing in queue and wondering if they can leave the computer for a few seconds. Or go exploring, start a dungeon or start a party with guild members while waiting in the queue.
At the moment there is no way to know if you need to wait just 5 more minutes, or 5 more hours. In fact, if you forget what map you were in queue for, there seems to be no way to check that. Like if you wanted to tell your friend to come along, but have already queued for 3 hours (yes, that happens a lot) and just plain forgot what you were in queue for, there is no way to check it.
So, I know me and a dozen other players did similar suggestions during BWE’s, but here is another one:
Add /queue chat command. Since the devs are busy, making a fancy GUI section for queue information is probably taking quite long. However, lacking vital information like this increases stress and/or frustration levels, which could be easily avoided by giving the player that information. ( I cannot seem to figure out why the queue information was not shared in the first place. )
All it really needs to do is to fetch the players spot in the queue and then print it in chat, which should be pretty easy to do. Shouldn’t take no time at all to code.
It could look something like this:
/queue
"
You are in queue for:
Eternal battlegrounds, #1429
Lions Arch, #59
"
That would save a lot of time “waiting”. I know you can just go ahead and play while in queue for WvW worlds, but not knowing how much time you have left before you get in kinda spoils that for me. I usually just end up standing AFK in LA. If I knew it is going to take 3 hours, gee, I would go and play through a dungeon. Don’t want to leave midway.
Also, if I only log in to check if I can get into WvW, I would save whole lot of time by not having to hang around waiting if I can see that that aint happening.
End of Wall of Text
In short:
Add chat command for checking your current spot in queue:
/queue
print
"
You are in queue for:
Eternal Battlegrounds, #1332
Lions Arch, #32
"
Adding this should be quick solution to the total lack of queue information, while devs work on a GUI version. Its so simple that even I could code that (give that I had the GW2 source code and some documentation).
Greed? Did I not pay for this game like everyone else? The black widow pet is only available to the best of my knowledge through the HoM, how is that fair to every other ranger in game?
So by your logic the only way to support the game is to have played the first one….even tho the first one could hardly be considered a MMO in any sense of the word.
Why do people feel entitled? Because they paid for the game that’s why. If the HoM was explained properly to begin with that would be one thing, yes they said people who played first game would be able to get blah blah blah, also said that it would be available to all players. Being able to go to some musty ruin is not what new players would have expected.
The point is this….. the second I spent money on the game I showed my loyalty in both actual game purchase plus gem store purchases. Maybe if the first game had been more playable I would have played it. I’ve been playing MMO’s since EQ1 and thus have made a lot of friends through playing MMO’s 90%, of whom couldn’t stand the first GW and how the game play was set up.
So what if you played the first one, it does not make you special, the past is the past and if this game is going to succeed all players new or old should be treated as equal. You can argue your points with me all day, not going to change my opinion lol.
Now, I don’t think you understand what you are saying. All players, new and old, are treated as equal. Just because you bought the game, you do not assume you’d be level 80 right away. Right? I hope not. Neither do you assume that you would get items you did not earn by playing… O wait, that’s what you’re assuming.
Sure, there are some perks that only come to those who are sort of hardcore fans of GW and have been playing longer. If ANet was your average greedy company that didn’t think about anything else than profit, I suppose you would be able to get the HoM rewards through the Black Lion Trading Company. Apparently, you cannot. And I’m glad about that.
To be honest, your rage has the same tone as the Americans complaining how “the stresstest is in the middle of a week day!?! Who do you think is going to play?!?! I’m at work!?!” which was just self-centered Kittenthing. (How did the censor go again?) Funny how they too always mentioned “having paid” for it. No they did not. You paid for what was promised and that was delivered. If you did any research before buying, you would’ve known that GW1 players do get some small perks based on how hard they plaid GW1.
There is a summary at the bottom for the convenience of the people too busy to read the wall of text. However, if you’re going to comment, I’d recommend reading the wall.

I’ve been wondering what has been bugging me in the dialogue. I think you nailed it.
Well, that and hearing my own character talk is an immersion breaker for me – I wish there was an option to verbose my own characters voice.
