Frustrated PvE'er in WvWvW

Just to clear few things:

There is no PvE completionist achievement
Been There Done That has nothing to do with “exploration”
Been There Done That is awarded for having 100% completion
Legendaries are skins only, you don’t need them for anything
If there is something wrong with how the title is awarded, it’s the fact that you don’t need to do sPvP or dungeons for it.

For every achievement, there is a requirement. If you do not like the requirement, don’t do the achievement. Making things easier just because someone doesn’t like part of the content is the wrong way to go.

Yes.

Yes they are.

I fail to see your point affects Vapor Form being the most overpowered downed ability in the game right now, though.

It might be a good downed ability, but it is perfectly in line with Elementalists overal abilities, and balances the profession when compared to other professions survivabilities.

When it comes to survivability,
taking less damage is warriors thing,
being invisible is thiefs thing,
deceiving opponent is mesmers thing,
being able to take distance is elementalists thing,
dodging is rangers thing,
blocking/healing is guardians thing,
Engineer… I haven’t plaid enough.

Thieves can stealth while downed, mesmers can create clones while downed, warrior still takes less damage while downed, guardian still heals while downed, elementalist is still able to take distance while downed.

Seriously, they’re perfectly in line.

removing the limit doesn’t mean it would hit any more damage

Yes.

Yes it would.

Stating arguments without reasoning behind them amounts to nothing.
Removing AoE cap does not cause more damage to a) Individuals b) Overall, as players would stop balling. (Like they did in GW1.)
There is plenty of space in WvW to spread out, yet everyone is trying to get as close to others as they possibly can. Why? It is safer. Which is utterly ridiculous. Make it unsafe → People spread out.

Now you’re still not hitting any more targets than 3-5, but now the battlefield actually looks like a battlefield and people are starting to consider healthier tactics.

Of course, I’m excluding lobotomized veggies who can only hit 1, 2 and W from my calculations.

The worst part is the imbalance between them. Compare Warrior down state, which is useless against more than one opponent, to Elementalist down state with the instan Vapour Form which lets you suicide without any risk as long as there is either a zerg of friendly players or a keep to scamper back into.

If they removed down states in WvW, a lot of the imbalance concerning Elementalists would go away because they can no longer take risks that would guarantee a death for any other Profession.

One could also claim that removing stealth would fix thieves,
or stopping melee professions from dealing AoE damage would fix them.

Then again, each of those suggestions is rather ridiculous, don’t you think?

If you want to see the limit removed, you’re gonna have to expect a nerf in damage across the board.

Are you willing?

AoE doesn’t deal insane single target damage, and removing the limit doesn’t mean it would hit any more damage.
It will only change the tactics in a healthier direction in WvW. Ergo, nerfing the damage isn’t really necessary,
Tho I don’t mind seeing it reduced based on the amount of targets taking damage, for example 5% reduction in damage for every player above 5, minimum of 60% damage dealt to each one.

The actual effect of taking out the limit is that players spread out. So it doesn’t mean that a single AoE is going to hit 30 players. It is unlikely that a single AoE would hit more than 5 players even with the limit taken out, except in special situations. But having such a ridiculously low limit has led to balling up being the most viable WvW tactic, which is just ridiculous.

I don’t mind zergs, but when your group engages enemy, you should spread out, not go stand on top of each other. (Or if you do, you should at least be penalized for it)

AoE needs capped and its fine as is. Its silly to think that a fireball explosion is going to go through a meat shield of 5 people and magically wrap around them and hit everyone else. 5’s a good number. As for taking out the cap again, why? you’ll just bring turtling back with heals. Kinda pointless asking for this…

It is silly to assume that if you got 10 people standing in a puddle of lava, 5 of them are automatically levitating.

Tbh, I would love seeing the AoE limit taken out, it would promote healthier tactics instead of commanders in WvW telling people to stack on their dot, the tighter the better. That is the exact opposite of how it should be.
Its such a shame that the massive battles don’t feel massive at all due to it just being two battling dots of meat.

GW1 tactics: “Don’t ball for puppy’s sake! Spread out, don’t stand in AoE! It hurts you!”
GW2 tactics: “Don’t spread out for puppy’s sake! Ball up, stand in AoE, it’s safer that way!”
Am I the only one who thinks that is ridiculous?

Alternatively, if the limit stays there, at least make other players physical (Problematic, I know), so you can’t stack 50 humans inside 1 charr.

And people are supposed to know this how? Seems like a pretty nonsensical and abstract to assume all the contract items give you an account bound item – even moreso to assume that this is common knowledge lol.

Now the contract doesn’t have “Express” in the title nor does it state what you get which is very very dumb for a premium item that players like myself will look to achieve.

The same way people know how express items work. They do minimum amount of research.

There are 4 different item “contracts” in the game all over 100g – to assume everyone knows what “contract” means in GW2 terms is absolutely asinine. With Express items the information is presented in the subtext – with the Contracts there’s nothing.

Not everyone needs to know. However, when you are going to spend gold worth over 100$ real life cash on a single item, it should be safe to assume you know what you are doing, or atleast research a bit before purchase. (Or that you are some sort of millionaire who doesn’t care if the race horse he just bought is actually alive or not.)

7300 gems are needed to get 100g at the moment.
Naturally, irl cash is used here only as a reference to understand the price of the item we are talking about.

Don’t worry, I did read the entire post. Just quoting TLDR since its good for reference.

Anyways…

TLDR:
-remove champions or replace them with veterans
-let waves spawn without having to kill champions

If you want it easy, why not just replace every mob with ambient mobs that still drop loot? Say you get some “Exterminate the crows that are eating my crops and stealing my shinies” -event. Every crow dies from one hit and has the possibility to drop a legendary. I’m sure that would make everybody happy, eh?

-fix scaling – champions spawn even when we have insufficient #’s to kill them.

You can never have insufficient numbers to kill something. I’ve done an entire event chain, including several veterans and a champion, alone. Did it take long (read: Small eternity)? Yes. Was I able to do it? Yes.
You just need better skills, dodging the attacks generally help alot.

I do partially agree.

Windborne speed is a good skill, fairly good speedbuff for those who wish to balance their attunements.

Static field is fairly good skill, maybe the most versatile skill I’ve seen. You can use it to boost your speed, stop opponent from fleeing or to cause extra damage to an opponent… Seriously, it’s almost overpowered. It’s in top 5 of my favorite staff skills.

On the other hand, I rarely ever even consider using Chain Lightning, Lightning Surge or Gust, they just don’t have any role in or outside of combat.

In case you haven’t notice, from what I am seeing in cured shore, population of bot is getting back up. Except that this time those bots act 90% like normal hardcore player that play 30~48 hours non stop, running different routes, change location, and etc. Other than not talking to you when you ask about their mother or stuff like that; keep flashing back and fort; and use exactly the same skill set EVERY TIME, they act exactly like normal player. So I am suggesting that when bot get reported maybe a program will record the use of skill (like the time interval between them) and if they use the same skill set for 5000 times without any differents, then you can ban them instantly or at least disconnect them for a while.

To be honest, I haven’t seen any bots lately… Maybe they are just regular human players that act 10% bot.

That is, ignore you when you ask about their mother, that is awfully personal question anyways. And use the same build they’ve been playing with since the start and are familiar with it. Why change a working build anyways?

If you want some “logical reason” just think of every character in the game secretly being a coward: When they shoot somebody and enter the combat, they slow down a bit so others would catch up first, meaning you don’t need to risk your life.
When you’re shot, you would like to run faster but you can’t, because you’re hurting.

Oh noes! A bullet ricochet off my armor, might as well walk slow now so the enemy can kill me.

Yes that makes perfect sense..

Correction: “Missed” or “Blocked” or “Evaded” doesn’t make you run slower. Therefore, having a bullet ricochet off your armor doesn’t slow you down.

Taking an arrow to the knee should, however, stop you from adventuring.

Also, being in combat usually takes 2. So its not only you who is slowed down, its also who ever is in combat with you being slowed down.

Forum suggestion - Graylisting words

in Suggestions

Posted by: Fred Fargone.3127

Fred Fargone.3127

Alright, so lets start by answering the question “What”:
By graylist, I mean specifying a list of words that when used on the title (Or maybe even body) would, instead of just posting the thread, put it on hold for moderator review.

Following up with: “Why?”
There are 18844 threads in the suggestion forums. (Whoops, I guess this makes it 1845?)
Doing a quick search, indicates that 200+ are about mounts. (And alot have been merged to “Mounts Merged”)
(Example list in separate post, too many entries in here)

Well, hopefully these examples get swiftly moderated and merged, but just seeing the list should give ya some idea. (Yes, around 30 topics with only “Mounts” as the title)

So, lets say we added graylisting and you made another “We want mounts” thread. Instead of flooding the forums, it would be placed on hold for moderator to make sure it is not yet another duplicate thread about a topic everyone is sick and tired of already.

So why not just block every post containing “mounts” in the title, why involve a moderator?
Simply to make sure that the post really is a duplicate, and not something like “Mount Maelstrom needs more trees”

Also, the graylist could prompt the user to use the search tool again, explaining that the topic is likely duplicate.

[Forum tricks] Searching + Advanced method

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Fred Fargone.3127

Fred Fargone.3127

Alright, so I’m writing this mainly because of the suggestions forums having 28*673=18844 threads, and some 200+ of them are about mounts.
So yeah, I’ll be mostly using the suggestion forums as an example.

INTRO Or

Why is this bad? Well, if everyone made a new thread every time they wanted to post about mounts (they basically do, but bare with me) all the other suggestions would be pushed down. What if among those suggestions, there was a golden suggestion that would ensure everyone had a blast playing GW2 while also somehow solving the world hunger and global warming?

So, as per stated in the forum code of conduct, you should just post your point in already existing thread about the matter if you can. This will bump the thread, of course, but won’t do harm for other, valuable suggestions.

Actual guide
So, there are two (maybe more) ways of searching the forums:
The quick way
1. Go to the sub-forum you are about to post
2. Locate the search field on the upper right corner of the screen
3. Type in a search term, for example “Mount”, see the results
4. Change the search word, for example “Last logged” and “Inactivity” will both produce results about threads suggesting adding a “Last logged in” column on the roster.
5. Reiterate a few times

The efficient method
1. Go to www.google.com
2. Type in your search word, then “site:” followed by the url to the subforum you are going to post in, for example “mount site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/”
3. You can also use the normal google tricks to make your search yield better results, for example:
“mount site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/ -maelstrom” so there won’t be any threads about the Mount Maelstrom, if you just wanted mounts.

If you still can’t find a thread related to your idea, post a new thread. (And congratulations for coming up with something unique.)

If they actually incorporated a REAL LFG tool into this game then it wouldn’t be a problem….

You would either have to

form a real group and go in with that group from the beginning

or the LFG tool (if used to find a party) would immediately fill in the slot if they kick someone thus eliminating the chances of them getting far in and kicking someone to add their own friend.

Or they keep kicking people who pop in through the LFG tool until their guildie gets in. Yes, there are people like that.

It may have been suggested before, but it doesnt hurt to have it at the top as a new topic

Actually, it does
When there are multitude of duplicate topics, some of the truly good and valuable threads with mindblowing ideas go under. It’s such a shame seeing dozens of threads for mounts, which is just a boring, generic idea that the devs are obviously aware, push down the actually good ideas that would make the game more balanced and enjoyable.
That is why one should always use the search tool at the forums at least 3 times before posting a “new” thread. Post in existing threads if anyhow possible, that will get the thread back on top.

It seems to me that the only really legit reason to kick someone is AFK/Disconnected. So it should be simple. Make Kick start up someones drop from game timer at like 10 seconds. So they have 10 seconds to prove they’re still there. If they’re AFK or Disconnected they won’t be able to and it will remove them from the group, if they are actively participating in the fight it won’t work.

I was referring to leeching. A leecher may not be afk (although they usually are), and most certainly isn’t DC’d.
Besides, everyone goes afk for 1 min during dungeons from time to time, usually saying something along the lines “Sorry, door, brb” or “phone” or “getting a drink” ect.

Just the other day I entered a dungeon with some group, but soon noticed they were all from the same guild. Knowing that this leads to a risk of losing all my progress due to their guild member popping in, I felt I had to leave the group.

It is not beneficial for anyone at the moment. Incomplete guild teams are having harder and harder time finding the last 1-2 players for the party when people learn of the exploit, and nobody feels secure in a group due to constantly thinking “Could the partymembers B and C secretly be friends, is there a person X who might wish to pop in the dungeon later on.”

The kicking system needs to be reworked, and the kicked member needs to have an option to veto the reward for the person replacing him. Or something. Something to discourage using this exploit without hurting the parties who are midway in the dungeon when one of the partymembers DCs and doesn’t come back or just has to leave.

This is by far the easiest fractal!
The problem that most groups have is that they are not in any Voice Com and that makes coordination harder!

I really hope ANet puts in more content in which doing it without VoiceChat is just impossible. This is the kind of content that is missing I feel.

When you coordinate your group correctly you can finish the thing with 5 or more secs left on the timer.

Uhm, the game shouldn’t require 3rd party software to complete parts of the game. However, I do agree that there should be more content promoting coordination with the team, which gives clear advantage to those parties utilizing voice chat.

then look at my post right above you, it does not require voicecom though it certainly would make it easier but i have done it quite a few times with only text communication, but communication in some form is required though, if you done then it is more luck that anything if you complete it

Sorry, it would seem you misunderstood me. I didn’t think I’d need to cut the quote since it was rather short to begin with, but I was replying to this:

Yes please

Actually, I’d love to see your current MF in the stats list. Just about everything else is already listed.

And as for the explanation, I think it works like this:
You have a chance of 0.1% for finding exotic gear after RNG decided you get loot.
If you had 100% MF, you’d have 0.2% chance of finding exotic gear.

- Making the Piken Square and the Tarnished Coast servers “Official” roleplay servers.
NO NO NO, Never official. Official is the death of RP, because then the jerks know where to go. Only through community decision and Unofficial status do proper RP servers come about. Give it to Piken Square if he insists but leave Tarnished Coast out of it

Listing price --> projected profit.

Perhaps I’m not looking in the right area but I just see the listing cost below the projected profit, I do not see a sales fee/cost. Also I see no reason that the listing cost should not be removed when calculating the projected profit, I want to know my “projected profit” I mean isn’t that the point of projected profit, so you can see how much money you will make from selling the items after fees? If it isn’t going to calculate it fully then why bother having projected profit there at all?

Oh heck, are you saying that the projected profit shown DOESN’T include the listing fee? I was basing my decisions to sell items on the projected profit because, silly me, I thought the projected profit was the projected profit. Not the projected profit before the listing fee is taken out. This means that items that I thought were just marginal before, were probably under vender price. WHO THOUGHT OF THIS?

Well, it was actually something suggested by the community long time ago. I was actually against it, but you can’t always “win”.

Anyways, I’m against this suggestion, changing the projected profit again would just cause more needless confusion.

Mostly good suggestions, I’ll just share some criticism on the ones I don’t like. (So sorry for sounding negative, no point writing “Yes, yes, yes” on each I agree on)

- A Guild management system which makes managing easier, for an example a “Last time logged in” tab option.

Depending on how it is done, I support this, or am against this. Only leader needs this, only leader should see this.

- A trading option. (Trusting items and money trough mail with guildmates make a common cause of drama.)

Would mess things up. The idea with BLTC is to remove the need for players to stand around in LA, crowding the place, being AFK, spamming “selling X” or “WTB”.
As a trader, I find this a horrible idea. I do not want to be forced to do the aforementioned things just to be able to compete with the other traders, I want to be able to play the game.

- Un-nerfing the currently crappy Ash Legion Spy Kit. (We need it. It’s a huge disappointment for the more committed PvE and Dungeon players. It is also to me personally for it was a good roleplay ability.)
- Removing or softening down the diminishing returns loot system.
- An actual full explanation on the magic find and loot system.
- The promised-but-still-not-provided guildhalls with guesting.
- A transmutable back slot, for the engineers out there who love the Universal Multitool Pack too much.
- A Character name-change function.
- Mini equipment slots. (For the people who love to have their favorite mini with them without the fear of sending them back to the bank when they use the “Deposit all collectables function”. / Not having to buy a Safe/hidden backpack.")
- Your owned dye spectrum on previewing armor option.
- Making the Piken Square and the Tarnished Coast servers “Official” roleplay servers.
- Advanced blocking, for emote spamming and/or roleplay trolling.
- Joining a PvP match on the same side with people in your party. (Disregard this matter on free-tournements.)

These are kinda “meh”. I don’t really see any point in any of these, though I am not really against it.

- Mounts. (Because like every guildmember agreed to this idea.)
- An item in the Black Lion Chest that grants permanent free waypoint travel on the account.

No mounts, it has been suggested for umpteen times, and I think people are mostly against this. At least there aren’t too many people with good “For” arguments.
And anything permanent needs a fairly low chance. And it should be “On character” and not “On Account”.

For example, you’re looking for group to do SE p1. You are invited to a group, the group enters and everyone else selects p3. Not your fault, you shouldn’t be penalized for leaving a group after being scammed to join.

Depending on the dungeon and time of day it could take a while to find a replacement. I feel if they had to leave then something like an hour cool down before they could go in another dungeon wouldn’t matter much if they were leaving in the first place.

I’d say that the CD needs to scale according to how far in the dungeon they were. Could even be that the CD is time spent in the dungeon if you left of your own initiave. (Not if you get kicked, not if the leader leaves, not if the dungeon is completed)
So if you enter a dungeon and immediately realize that
A) The group you’re playing with is bunch of elitist newbies who get wiped on the first regular mob or
B) It’s a guild team likely to kick you later on just to get another of their guildies in
or C) Whatever other reason
you wouldn’t be penalized that much. (Since you leaving at the start hardly matters for the group anyways.)

Uhm? Wait, GW1 only had gold & plats. But you are right, one plat was 1000 gold. (silly ol’ me)
But my point was that the limit on the money was 100 plats, meaning 100 units. For money, that ofc meant 100 000 gold, but for stuff like karma, that would’ve just meant 100. Seen as I got some 300k karma on my character at the moment, we know that is not the cap. But it could be 1 mil for example.
For laurels, it could even be 250. (I do not think ANet meant them to be stored in large quantities. And they seem to be fans of using unsigned bytes for storing info about the amount of items)

It’s not fun doing a dungeon only to be kicked midway through so someone’s friend can join. The problem with putting them in with collectibles is that you have a max of 250. They should end up in the same place as coins, gems, karma and laurels so they can have infinite capacity.

Well, seen as there aren’t many gold sinks to begin with, WP cost is one of the “major” gold sinks. (Others are when you are selling items at BLTC or when you die. Then there are some minor gold sinks related to consumables you need to buy from the merchants in order to, for example, salvage stuff. Of course, this depends on what you consider to be a gold sink.)
Of course, I do not have any hard data on how many gold pieces rightfully belonging to the drain have evaded the sink using this trick, but I suppose its a couple of hundred a day.

I read it, but still have an issue with the idea. A c/d stops one from jumping in, slappin their kit together and getting to biz. Regarding badges, let’s be honest here. Badge droprate is an extremely variable thing. Also, if one’s planning Legendary at some point, that’s a good 500 they need stashed. As for out-of-spawn, why not have Bank/BLTC near your crafters in your BL? Hell, you’re using the crafters most WvW nights for the Crafting Daily … why not keep things centralized?

Well, which do you think is worse: Inflation, or minor inconvenience?

I do a lot of WvW, but I haven’t found it necessary to visit the bank every time I join the map. Actually, I might need to visit the bank after 3 hours of active WvW, but rarely any sooner.
Needing the bank or BLTC at the beginning of my shift is extremely rare (At least for me).

I know there will be a lot of people arguing against this, and I would rather keep the bank and BLTC too, but the problem here is that a lot of PvE folks go to WvW just to use these services. This not only reserves a few extra spots (which I know is not a problem for majority of the servers) but also negates one of the major gold sinks aimed to combat inflation.

Alternative solution would be that: Every bank in WvW has a cooldown of 30 minutes before you can use them, after you entered the map. If you want a quick access, pay 1 badge of honor. (Which we all know are easy to come by for any active WvWer.)
So anyone actually doing WvW would get bank access for free (since they most certainly stay there for longer than 30 minutes) or just needs to give one of their hundreds or thousands of badges for quick access.
Also, if the badge had a collectible slot in the bank, it could be taken from inside the bank instead of the bag, in case the player has deposited them all.

Just my 2 cents, every PvEr is of course free to argue against losing their free bank.
