you say that im wrong well over 450 has been in an read abit of this post and you are only a few bunch there saying im wrong lol i personal know alot ppl there feel the same way as me :-D

Well, one could say that. Then again, I don’t see too many saying you’re right. Do you? In fact, there are just a few people arguing about the matter, with you on the “remove” side and pretty much everyone else on the “keep” side. Sure, there were a couple people saying “remove” but seen as they left after one-two post(s), I don’t think they’re too interested.

Here is another related Sun Tzu quote:

Sigh I take it you haven’t read the forum Code of Conduct then?

Do not post in all capital letters; do not use “leetspeek,” excessive punctuation, colored text, alternating lower case and capital letters, etc. Please refrain from these and other similar attention-seeking tactics to draw attention to your post. Let your post stand on its own merits.

And generally speaking, its not too good an idea to represent your suggestions in such offensive manner. You want people to agree with you and ANet to make changes in their product, right? Well, you don’t win everyone on your side by doing such provocative titles, and calling 90% of the playerbase noobs.

where you got 90% of the playerbase is noobs from ?

I dont find the title offensive.. for me its a fact that down stage are for noobs (again my opinion)

The vast majority of players have adapted their tactics and found the downed state useful by now. By saying “downed state is for noobs” you’re basically saying that anyone who utilizes this mechanic is a noob. Ergo, 90% of the playerbase. (Call that an exaggeration or a rough estimate, idc)

If you do not find that title anyhow offensive, I suggest you research words such as “polite”, “rude”, “neutral” and “offensive” to better grasp human to human communication nuances

I don’t demand anything im simply saying my opinion and ask what other’s feel. I belive that Anet got Down state so all casual / noobs gamers dont whine evry time the die, but isent the game about skills to take your opponent out or do you thinke its okay that 3 out of 6 rally on a stupid Deer ?

This dosen’t make any sence for me im here to suggestion them to do somthing with it im not demanding it. Rally on a deer / mob has nothing to do with skills thats my opinion..

Please, please pick an excuse and stick with it. First you’re saying you’re here just to tell your opinion and ask what others feel. Then you say you’re here making suggestions.

If you think that demanding always starts by saying “I demand…” I’m afraid to inform you that that is not always the case. “Downed state in WvW is for the noobs” (the title) “remove it” (your suggestion) seems like a demand more than a suggestion to me.

Such numbers rallying on a deer tells something about the group your up against.
1) They have cohesion. Obviously, you got 3 of them down but couldn’t finish them off, so the rest of the group is doing something right.
2) They use the terrain to their advantage. (Yes, that deer is part of the terrain here sorry deer)
3) They plan ahead. (They successfully executed a plan to mass rally.)

I don’t trust your ability to judge the oppositions skill henceforth

I wonder if it would be mechanically possible to implement a ‘trait’ [for lack of better words] just for downed. Option 1) No Change. Option 2) Deal significant bonus damage to downed opponents but lose the ability to be downed yourself [instant defeated]. This Trait cannot be switched out-of-combat like weapons, but can be switched like perm. traits would.

Option 1 allows Groups to continue to operate as intended and Option 2 allows skilled players to potentially succeed against superior numbers.

That would be only useful for killstealing, which we try to avoid here. You’d be doing insane amount of dmg for players you didn’t fight to down, thus getting tagged for the kill easier than anyone around you, basically denying them the chance to tag themselves for the kill. (Those who weren’t fast enough to tag themselves for the kill while the opponent was still up) You’d just vulture around waiting for people to go to downed state.

So smart a.. you thinke im new ^^ you go on belive that.. you advice to AoE hmm can all class/ spec do AoE ? Nope I’m playing P/D con thief i dont have a dmg burst and if im fighting against manny i need to finish ppl, other way they will have to much dmg going on me at the end…

Most classes can AoE. Thief can also. If you want to go against superior numbers and refuse to bring AoE, it puzzles me that you claim you’re not new.

It’s a fundamental mechanism of the game, for pro and newbies alike. If you wanted to ask a question, you’re in the wrong sub forum. This is for suggestions. If you got 3 people rallying from a deer, your opponent is better than you originally described.

This simply makes you look like you a PvE nerd and thats fine with me..

I direct you at my signature.

It is totaly okay that new player / casual player / small kids / Freaks that don’t have a life plays.. but dont make 10 new player win by rally or down stage vs a hardcore duo (and no its not me im talking about)

For as many threads that reference small-group vs large-group complaints about WvWvW, I still don’t really understand it. Exactly what part of World…vs World…vs World sounds centered around anything small?

All i want is that skills matters and that numbers dossen’t (Example. you are 2 pro gamer why should you loose a fight to 10 random player because they just are more than you.)

I’m skilled in martial arts with fancy belt colors in multiple different styles. I wouldn’t take on 1v5 or 2v10 (partly because the legal stuff afterwards would be a pain). This is not WoW, this is not Dragon Ball, this is GW2. If you are heavily outnumbered, you are heavily outnumbered.
You’re asking why 2 players can’t beat 10 players. I’m asking, why should they be able to beat 10 players? Although if there are two truly pro players who find a random bunch of 10 players with no coordination or tactics and these two pro’s decide to defy all odds, sure they can beat them. Odds are even better if they are utilizing the terrain for their advantage. But its appropriately hard.

So im playing 1 vs. 5 and i get 1 of them down. you thinke they wont rezz him more than i can do dmg on him just by hitting him once in a while ?

No i need to finish ppl else they get up again and i get just 1 more to look out for again..

I’m playing a con. thief P/D i dont have any burst to take ppl out with and as it is now ppl with Crit burst build have more benefits of just hitting ppl to death..

Every “once in a while”? What, are you trying to kill him or trying to wake him up? Deal damage if you want to kill him, get out of that combat if you’re not particularly interested. Even my support elementalist can take down people in zergs. Even more if they try to rez. Why? I keep hitting them till they are dead.
If you only hit your target every “once in a while” in such casual manner as you make it sound, the problem is probably not the opponent rezes, its more likely you being casual about the combat.

I like downed state because it is a step towards realism. It makes the game easier to get into. If you think about it, you hardly ever have a fight (without modern weapons) where you keep fighting to your fullest capability, and then without any warning drop dead. If you are cut and pierced several times, of course your powers wane and you eventually go down. And if you have a friend to quickly bind your wounds and revitalize you, give you adrealine or whatever, you can get back up. Or if you have a sufficient morale boost. (The feeling of “I can do this!”)

I hope they make the game more skill req. than force ppl to stand stil 3.5 sec. Rally / down stage only benefit zergs and manny VS few..

Alright, I get it, you’re new. That is alright, we’ve all been there. But you do not need to stand still for 3.5 sec. You don’t need to stand still at all. Unless you want to revive a downed ally, THEN you need to be still… So, if you want to take down a bunch of opponents with superior numbers? Put one in downed state and AoE that ball.

It dossent take that long time to run from WC to the action so skip rezzing doing combat, that way you would se players with skills shine and the zerg’s fall’s

So, if I suck at the game, I’ll blame it on my mad skills that just don’t work with the game and demand the game to be changed?
And yes, it takes long to run from the other side of EB to opponents home keep, where the opponent is constantly getting new players in.

Try see this and thinke what i could have done to this zerg if i shouldent stop up and finish ppl and notice that i take much more dmg while i try finish ppl

Again, big red capital letters with something cool like FINISH THEM! And a hint to press F doesn’t mean you should ignore everything around you and hold that F like a pro.

So if im reading it correctly i should use 10 keys to make 1 key what is the same as the 10 i have been using?

I think he meant you would get 10 keys. Which would make the already ridiculously cheap recipe even cheaper.

I meant 10 chest for one key. I did see my mistake when posting.

Okey, that makes it a bit more reasonable, still, its not very reasonable. Black Lion Chests are tradeable and their price is just a couple of coppers. Sure, this would make their price skyrocket (Maybe I should stock a few just in case?) but they keys still would be way under a g. (Currently, they cost around 2g’s)
All this would do is make the keys cheaper.

When you’re level 80, you have 23 maps you can go back to. That’s not putting everyone on one map.

Still, it wouldn’t appear people go to lower level maps all that much. I think there are a few threads about that too.

Then that’s a problem with the scaling system.

Which wasn’t designed to handle that many people. Ergo, the game wasn’t designed to handle that many people. And that was just one example. If you were in the BWE’s you’d probably still remember the huge balls of people in the middle of nowhere. That was quite comical.

They’d be better off implementing something like the Fractal difficulty level, which adjusts the event depending on the amount of players:

  • 1 – 5 – Normal Mob Swarm
  • 6 – 10 – Add a Champion or 2
  • 11+ – Add Siege
    ect.

Eh, I thought that was already happening? Well, I might be wrong.

Hence me saying we need more stuff to bring people back into the world.

When you say “back into the world” I assume you mean “out of the instances”. Well, there is nothing wrong with people in the open world, but instances are more social in my opinion. In the open world, you sure see a lot more people, there is no denying that, but instances are where ya can make new friends.
Fractals for example require teamwork, which requires communication. Which leads to interaction between the players. Its easy to break the ice in instances where everyone assumes you’re going to talk. Tbh I have socialized with strangers more in instances than in the open world.

If it didn’t provide any sort of advantage, aside from Achievements, fair enough. But you’re more or less guarenteed that if Vanquishing provided any sort of reward advantage, everyone would choose that over playing in the open world.

You remember vanquish from GW1? Most of the time, I plaid in NM because the HM rewards just weren’t good enough for the increased difficulty when playing alone. (A.k.a. I’m lazy, as most people are.)

Before implying that I’ve said it’s a bad thing,

Well, you did make it sound like a bad thing

I suggest you take a look at some of the suggestions I’ve made

Nice that we both enjoy GW1, but that is hardly relevant.

Bring back the good old Vanquish

Fred Fargone.3127

At what point did I say everyone should be on one map?

Here:

We need stuff to bring people back into the world to play with other players

Since level 80’s (those who vanquish would be aimed to) pretty much play on just a few maps anyways.

They didn’t design the game for that many people? What are you basing this on?

If you plaid during BWE’s and prelaunch, it was fairly obvious.
20+ people all trying to deal enough damage on the same regular mob, but half of them can’t hit it more than once and won’t be able to get any xp or loot or renown/DE progress (because they didn’t deal enough damage) in a game where there was supposed to be no competition about the mobs, no kill stealing. Ergo, it wasn’t designed for quite that many people.

What happens if you go giving players the ability to create their own little instances / party up with 10 others? The world population drops, and those who want to play with 30 – 40 other people taking down a dragon can’t.

That happens with every new content. Add a new map? People are divided between the old maps, and the new maps, and “the world population drops.”

If people have got a choice between getting more rewards alone, or playing with others for less rewards, most will go it alone, simple because of the hassle of trying to find a group to join them
.

obviously Vanquish will be a HM. You can’t just go to a map to vanquish it and instantly be covered in gold. Nobody said you would. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if the only effect of vanquishing was +30% MF or something. That’s not awfully lot.
But I’d much rather do it for a title.

It suddenly doesn’t become an MMO anymore, rather a CORPG like GW.

Hmm… so, sequels being similar to originals is a bad thing now? Though I don’t see that happening. And if they start having such problems, just merge the maps for underflows.

I’d love to see vanquish mode added. And seen as they can create instanced versions of the maps, where the mobs don’t respawn, it is entirely possible. Does it require some extra work? Yes. But what doesn’t?

No need to limit it to dungeons, and those champions are rarely a problem either. It just requires you to really fight for that vanquish. (Okey, tone them down a bit for vanquish.)

I disagree with this. Just like Fractals and such, it takes people out of the world.

Uhm… if ANet wanted everyone on one map doing the same thing the people around them are doing, they wouldn’t be adding any new content to the game.
Sure, during the BWE’s there were a huge amount of people everywhere. (What’d ya expect when ya give HC fans just two days doze at a time?)
And certainly there was the launch tsunami that flooded the servers for a fairly long time, but ANet hadn’t designed the game for that many people to begin with. The way I see it now (running around desolation btw) the amount of people is just about right. If I’m out in the wild, I don’t expect to be running into hundreds of other people anyways.
Spreading people out is good, variety of content is good. Sure, it has side effects, but I can live with those.

I don’t want devs to respond to every suggestion, obviously they have better things to do.

What I am really asking for in this post is for a forum mod to simply respond to the most active suggestions that have been positively received by the player base. There are dozens of suggestions that have been around since the betas and are cluttering this forum because someone brings them up on a daily basis. (ex. Last Login in Guild, Duels, changes to WvW Commanders, out-of-combat weapon swap for ele/engi)

Anyone who frequents this forum knows that some suggestions have been brought up hundreds of times. I think it would be nice if we received an official response about any of these suggestions, because it would reduce the number of suggestions and allow future suggestions to be more relevant instead of constantly reiterating the same things.

There is nothing a mod can say in one of these threads to stop others from reposting.
How many suggestions there have been about guild halls and player housing after it was stated that they’re coming? (Which was like forever ago btw. EDIT: Here is the date: 29 August 2011 – 04:21 AM)

It is helpful to take Eric’s full statement into account.

He mentioned that there will be no Guild Halls on release as we want to make Guild Halls a great experience and not just a “place”. We will introduce player housing at some point after launch, and at that time we will also implement guild halls.

Mounts...

I don’t think that the appeal of mounts is purely in the movement speed boosts. It is also a visual treat.

You may call it a treat, though I don’t get why. When I’m in a town, I don’t want anyone to shove a Dolyaks behind on my face while I’m doing my BLTC business.

Visually, which do you think is more impressive, a hero walking, or a hero riding on a mounted dragon?

Hero walking, obviously. If dragons were tame enough to be ridden, you could scrap most of the lore.

Which brings the points you raised. If mounts are discussed so often then clearly there is a high demand for them.

Or a lot of opposition to a overly vocal minority?

The “zoned” aspect of the game can be handled just fine, once again, I’m not saying GW2 =WoW, but WoW handled flying mounts beautifully, by only allowing flying in high level areas, and then redesigning the zoned areas for flight in the future..

Now, pardon me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t adding open layer above the whole world need some major changes with the game’s engine?
So, you’re not only asking to forget all about the lore, you’re also asking to remake the engine? Sounds reasonable.

-Give secondary weapon sets to Elementalists and Engineers (in-combat switching or out-of-combat switching; I really don’t care).
-Allow bonuses from ALL equipment to be active regardless of which weapons are currently drawn (primary weapon set, secondary weapon set, and terrestrial headgear, even underwater).

[/quote]

I play an elementalist. Sure, having two weapon sets would be fun and all, but I already have 20 weapon skills. So… Nah for in combat switching.

As for the second idea, lets take a closer look.
So, you got a dagger and a pistol, as well as a bucket of poison. You dip your dagger in the poison and put it in your pocket. Then you draw your pistol and shoot someone. He is now poisoned. Seems to make sense.
Seriously, there is a reason you only get bonuses from the weapon which deals the damage.

The daunting grind of GW2

Posted by: Fred Fargone.3127

Fred Fargone.3127

It is nice to see the people finally waking up to this. Yes the grind is huge and it is only going to get worse as it seems that is the only thing Anet seems to know how to do.
It appears that is their idea of endgame – grind.
I really hope they have taken some time off to take another look at and fix the game and its economy because soon the only thing that will save it will be F2P and it isnt that far off.
And Yes I blame Anet it is their game and let it happen.

You seem to offer a lot of point and blame, but hardly any ideas on how to fix anything. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but this is the suggestions forum.

The grind is just about as “huge” as you want it to be. If you don’t want to grind, don’t. It’s okey, you still have exotics and that’s not going to change. Armor skin isn’t everything. Sure, some guys who migrated from WoW might look for ways to discriminate other players, and since we don’t have damage meter, they probly look at your gear. But do you really wanna play with such people anyways?

The way I see it, there are 3 types of people:
1. People who want to have hard to get achievements, even if its just for prestige. There is grind for them. (Skins, GWAMM, legendaries, ect.)
2. Casual players who couldn’t care less. The game is open for them, and they can do whatever they want without need for any grind whatsoever.
3. A mixture of the two. Unlucky casuals who have a grinding mentality and don’t like it.

And lets be honest, there is very little ANet can do about the third group.

Can we NOT have WvW in the monthlies anymore?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Fred Fargone.3127

Fred Fargone.3127

Completing the WvW part of the monthlies takes like 30m-3h. It shouldn’t bother anyone else but pacifists… Then again, why would a pacifist be playing a game largely focused around combat?

Then again, it brings people who don’t normally WvW to WvW to help their world. Even if they only do the monthly.

For example, lets say they spend 1,5h doing the monthly, killing invaders. Say there are 1000 players on a low pop server who don’t usually participate in WvW except for the monthly. This adds one player for 90 000 minutes in WvW for the server.
Or 10 players for 9 000 minutes. 9000minutes = 150 hours ~ 10 days (daytime, they don’t be there during nights.)
So, the server basically gets around 10% of max players for one map for 10 days. Helping their server in WvW. I do not think that is a bad thing.

Of course, that 1000 was just an example, there might be more players going to WvW just for monthlies on some servers.

This seems like a good idea. Might have a “Guild officer handbook” or something that enables this functionality for your character in the same way the commander book does. Just make it 10g or something, so its not entirely dodging the commander fee, but is still there for people who actually want to lead. (And not just troll.)

Well I wanted to get reduced costs as I see the way of making money, if sure it will not be nerfed more and more.

I’m ok to give me more fun too, so please add content. =D

And if we don’t need to buy remote bank access, then please add more banks (at least one per zone).

So far I dislike idea that I’m pushed to item shop (all posts about GW2 before release denied need to pay for play), but seems from the start till now money making became less easy and costs still same.

I need clear answer if this is simply buy to win game or something more (which I miss to see).

And it essential IMO to look at costs for WP, repair and TP.

Uhm… what? Just how are you pushed towards the gemshop? Gemshop is just a few minor buffs (that I don’t bother to use even when I get them for free from drops) and some cosmetics. I don’t get it… I never use bank access, I don’t need it. You got what, 100 space in your inventory. That is like triple what you got space in bank if I’m not mistaken.
Just… what, uhm, why would you need to access your bank anyways? All you need is a merchant, and if you find something valuable you want to TP it. Or put it in an invisible bag.

To be honest, I don’t really see what the problem with MF is. Judging from the forums, it sounds like there are a bunch of people (like 80% of the player base?) running dungeons with MF gear and constantly getting one hitted from the first generic mob they encounter after entering the dungeon.
But I just don’t see that happening in game at all. I rarely see people even dying (from other than falling.) I die even less myself. And yeah, I’m running MF gear. As for DPS, I don’t really care if you need to hit the boss 100 or 85 times. It’s not that big of a deal imo. (The difference is what, 15 seconds? 30 seconds?)

Remove The Breakout Events

-Signed.
Camped realms should stay camped, not have their NPC’s fight the WvW War for them. All this bleeding-heart bullkitten about “We can feel like winners, even if we’re losing.” should stay in the world of Self-Help Coaches and Drug Addiction Centers.

The Break-Out Event, to me, is rather similar to these hypotheticals:
-Referees in the NFL will give a “Break Out” Touchdown to a team that is down 30 points.
-Judges at the Olympics will now be giving a “Grace Score” for how gracefully a gymnast recovers from a horrific and body twisting loss of balance.
-The U.S. Army will now be issuing standing orders that for every 20 Hostiles killed by drones strikes, 5 American Soldiers will be put on a 72-Hour “No Movement” status, preventing their involvement in further military operations for the duration of the Order.

WvW is a three-way war.
If your server can’t compete, you don’t belong in the tier you’re in.
Server Xfer’s are free, after all.

I do believe the breakout events are there to counter other kind of problems, not to solely help a team that has lost the game.

In NFL, you can check for drugs which are banned from the game. However, ANet doesn’t want to ban nightcapping, as everyone’s time is equally valuable. This however leads into situations where a good server has nothing on a map on the morning. → Breakout event.

Gymnastics? Sure, ya can use drugs in gymnastics too.

USA warring? Oh, please. That’s like saying ANet gives free omega golems for one side, then since its winning they introduced break out events to help the two losing servers.

Breakout events aren’t there to give free points to a server that is thrown to wrong bracket, they’re there to help servers of equal standing but smaller nightcrew take back the land which is rightfully theirs when they log in on the morning. Or that’s my opinion anyways.

Some of the information and ideas here have been a great read, but it only represents a small portion of the player base. I think it would be a good idea if Anet set up polls that pop up in game when players are in cities or other safe places, with simple questions and a small reward for answering, and a easy no thank you/ please remove me from this feature option. It would be a pretty easy way to get a large amount of feed back from more players, including those who don’t frequent the forums to improve the game.

They had this in BWE’s. Except no reward, which is the way it should be. You don’t want people spamming random opinions just to get a few silver pieces.
And it needs some captcha anyways, so only people with opinions on the matter bother answering.

1:Define balanced gear be more specific with what your wearing,Traits and ofc class.

Armor vit/tough, rings pow/crit/pres
I play an elementalist (and have exceptional survivability by any standards. I don’t need to repair armor after dungeons, I make money in WvW and not lose it in armor repairs. Ect.)

2:Okay i can say what in around 1/3 of a second so your being killed in under a second okay seems legit. By out of the blue do you mean your in tunnel mode and someone got the drop on you(thats your fault) if not and you didnt see him then thats the culling issue NOT THE THIEF okay anet are aware of this problem and working on it, the only way a thief can retain nearly perma stealth is a P/D thief and they have absolutely no burst at all.

Just left spawn, nobody goes into tunnel vision that early. Thief can teleport quite a distance, and has high movement speed. It might be the culling issue, or it might be the players skill.

3:if a theif kills you in say 5secs which the standard GC does then you are infact in glass cannon mode or your lying/extremely over exaggeration like 95% of all thief QQ threads.

I wasn’t counting the finishing move, that’s kinda “already dead” without teammates around you.

4: you can not play in tunnel vision have a wide spread view you will see a GC thief before he attacks you i always do unless its a P/D theif then quite simply you use condi removers and proceed to CC him and apply Condis/burst damage onto him and he will be dead quite soon.

You seem to be assuming that everyone is playing in tunnel vision just because they’re not constantly spinning around. There are a lot of places where I can, even as an elementalist, run around undetected 15 feet from a group of enemy players. It is sometimes just not possible to spot people fast enough.

Not to mention the culling problem.

So yes it was a learn to play issue or your a liar please choose which one it was and move along, we shouldn’t see you posting anything about how OP thief are any time soon or do what i did and level the class and play it i learnt it strengths and weaknesses and now i beat every D/D gc unless i get culling issues in which case doesn’t bother me since i know anet are on the problem and i play a Engi btw

Suggestions to deter zerging in WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: Fred Fargone.3127

Fred Fargone.3127

Zergs are not good for WvW. They trivialize the accomplishments of smaller sized groups and players in the zerg are left feeling their individual contributions to the zerg do not have a lot of weight to the success or failure of the zerg.

I see your point, even though this is not exactly true. I sometimes join up with the zerg, I can distinguish what part was my doing and what was not, and often I notice I have critically contributed to the success of the zerg which I can draw positive emotions from. Whereas failure I will usually just share with the zerg, when the negative emotion is lessened.
And the accomplishments of the smaller groups are never trivialized by having a larger group accomplish something else.

Supply Logistics Tax:
When the number of friendly players in close proximity reaches ‘zerg’ numbers, then start to remove supply from each member at an interval. The more people the more removed or at a higher frequency. For large zergs this would hopefully make it difficult to keep any supply more than a few minutes after looting a supply depot.

This would be understandable if we built siege out of cupcakes. However that supply is board and nails, iron, whatever. What do the people around you do to make that supply vanish? Now, we don’t want people to completely scatter around the map, not forming groups because they fear their supply will vanish. And yeah, try telling them they can have 4 other people around them safely.

Siege Maintenance Tax:
When the number of friendly players in close proximity reaches ‘zerg’ numbers, then nearby siege equipment would either revert back to a ‘building’ state and would require supply to get them functional, or they would take damage and eventually be destroyed and have to be rebuilt from scratch.

Good luck trying to defend a fort. Opponent can spread their numbers around the fort, while the defender is pretty much forced into smaller area. Therefore, the defender can’t keep their siege working and they all lose supply that they have very little in the first place.
The opponent then again can spread around the fort and just
a) Wait till the opponents siege is gone. This now happens automatically, you just need to keep running in circles. Then build a ram or two of your own and waltz in. The defender can’t even repair the door, as the keep is now out of supplies.
Or
b) Make few catapults further away, hitting that wall has never been easier, as opponent can’t do anything to repair it. They got no supply. Not to mention that you get huge advantage with the siege, whereas opponent can’t really build any counter siege. Since they’re defending.
Is the point here to make sieging a keep utterly ridiculous?

WvW Dynamic event scaling:
When the number of friendly players in close proximity reaches ‘zerg’ numbers and they are doing an offensive dynamic event without a matching enemy force, then scale up the PvE difficulty. This could be accomplished either by reducing damage to walls/gates, or by spawning NPC defenders. The larger the zerg the more frequently they spawn and with more annoying abilities (snare, fear, AoE, etc). The balance I’m thinking of is 10 person team would be able to take an undefended tower much more dramatically faster than a 50 person zerg.

Uhm… what? “For tabby’s sake! Stay away! Don’t help us! That will slow us down! Go away!”
Right. Lets add more antisocial aspects to the game.

Decrease zerg rewards:
When the number of friendly players in close proximity reaches ‘zerg’ numbers, then reduce badge drops and dynamic event rewards (karma, experience, and coin) for completing events. This shouldn’t be binary on/off but a gradient reduction depending on the number of people in the zerg.

People will not notice they’re getting less rewards, they will definately not draw the connection to having friends with them. This is, therefore, inefficient.

What are your thoughts on these suggestions? Are there other ways the zerg mentality can be deterred?

Zerg is a natural phenomenon, people want to group with other people. Sure, there are loners, but you don’t see them forming flocks.

Zerg is efficient on certain tasks, and inefficient on many others. It is how the people organize that matters. However, if they all want to go together, that should not be penalized. It’s how they want to play.

This is so much bs. Just because you don’t know how to counter them doesn’t mean anything. On a few classes thieves will win more often then not, but it’s not a given.

On my guard, I kill thieves all the time. Last time was a 1v2 against a warrior and thief. Trapped thief with my hammer, thief dead.

On my mes I kill thieves all the time. 8 stacks of confusion will tear up a thief, not too mention blurred frenzy.

Hammer warrior = dead thief a lot of the time.

And so on and so on.

Seriously, L2P.

Sure, everyone can kill thieves that are a) Not playing the correct build b) are part of that casual part of the community that got frustrated playing against thieves and decided to join them, but can’t really play their class right. The groups are not mutually exclusive.

This thread however is about the actual, skilled thieves. If he didn’t burst you to less than 50% hp out of the blue, he doesn’t know how to play his class. Or you got lucky. (Or you’re guardian)

Not to mention that guards and mesmers are the most effective at countering thieves: Guardian has passive block (So the thief really can’t surprise you, can he?) and is of the heavy armor class on top of that. Mesmer is an excellent duelist profession, so unless that thief plaid his cards right and burst’d that mes to death on the first set of blows, he’s majorly screwed.

wow people are stilling crying about the thief all i can say is just go and leave why make a cry thread in the forums i hate to say it but its just another L2P issue like 95% of the thief threads are no doubt u are pre 80s all in GC gear and dont know how to play your class or how to counter a thief so when you die the first thing you do is “OMG that thief stayed in perma stealth and starred at me and one shotted me while doing 8 backflips in one jump then! he punched me thru my computer screen =(” honestly im glad you and your friends left people like you ruin class balance

You leave your spawn.
You have full exotics, balanced gear, (no glass cannon), you’re a squishy class.
Out of the blue you take around 100% your health in damage before you have time to say “what”, and after you’re dead from stealth finish, you finally see the attacker.
Tell me, how is that L2P issue? What were you supposed to do? Randomly dodge all the time after leaving your spawn? Hit thin air with AoE just because you’re not in your immunity zone anymore? Keep hitting 1 while moving?
