There’s plenty incentive to get you playing ranging from artistic pride to financial reasons revolving around the Black Lion store. Let’s not don tin-foil hats here, the Asura are the only people that should do that.
I’m willing to bet that these situations will need to be reported via a support ticket.
Rumor Mill: Regarding "hacked" accounts, ArenaNet & personal security

I mean, seriously? Without even a shred of evidence to support his claim. If any GW2/ArenaNet staff (nobody else) would like his IP so you can send the corresponding player-account a message, feel free to PM me =P.
Do you have a shred of evidence to say that arena net wasnt hacked?
didnt think so.
If ArenaNet was compromised, they are required by law to report it to affected users. The fact that they haven’t yet is a good indication that there’s no problem on their side, and history has shown that most of the time it’s a user who failed on their side of security.
I heard you can submit a ticket, and if your situation is reasonable they can disable that part of the security for you. It will take time for them to get back to you though.
Freyar – Shame to lose a customer, only on anets side, brother is fast losing the will to even care that he can’t play. He could have been a little gem mine for anet to pluck away at for years, now they won’t even get his initial purchase let alone gem payments.
Business is not instant. It never has been. It’s a co-operation between so many different people that have so many different parts. Business, between a company and a customer (or even between two people) is a two-way street. Now, you might say you’ve been getting “zero” help here, but with accounts starting to get moving, now would be the worst possible time to do something that would permanently damage the business relationship.
Is it bad that ArenaNet didn’t have the support structure in place? Absolutely, but they are getting things moving and it will only get faster here on out.
Keep in mind that ArenaNet would likely block ALL accounts associated with one that issued a chargeback. If you share a connection, you’re at risk. Future account/license purchases are at risk as well.
I get the top bit, but suddenly this bottom part appeared, wouldn’t bother me if not for the [PERMANENT_BLOCK] part, mind filling me in??
Looks like a bug. My interpretation is that you were suspended for racial slurs for 32 more hours. The [PERMANENT_BLOCK] part is likely just the standard links they give you to look over during your suspension.
I don’t recognize the name as anything that I’d be concerned with. A lot of people in your situation just don’t remember a slip-up though.
Hello,
I have a question.
How can i deauthorize previously authorized save netwoks?Regards Thelon
https://account.guildwars2.com/account/security
There you can see where each address points to and “deactivate” as necessary.
ive just been re-attached to my account from arenanet. i was given my new info to log in and when i did i was told i was perma banned. wtf
Your Guild Wars 2 account has been terminated for engaging in or assisting with gold or item sales for real-world-money, which is breach of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct. This action is permanent.
this is what my permanent bann says to.
its not our fault or accounts got hacked we should get a refund
One step at a time. You have your account back, now for the next bit.
Some people have said that logging in using the old password, then changing the password through your account management a second time may work.
There is no current method to change your screenname as far as I can tell.
There has not been sufficient time to remedy the situation to warrant a chargeback. Guild Wars 2 is a great game in and of itself, and it would be a shame to have you barred from ever coming back as people start getting their accounts back.
Is it not alarming how frequently it seems like this is happening?
You’re in the Account Issues forum. It will always sound like everyone is being compromised.
Difference of experience I suppose. This seems particularly suspicious to me, it’s at the most vulnerable time of the game, and it would be very easy to cover up.
There are legal requirements that ArenaNet must follow if there was in fact a security breach on their end.

I just responded to my ticket in my mail. Just reply to it, and put the response at the top. Leave the rest alone, the system seemed smart enough.

If you’re genuinely looking to not have to worry about behavior while being able to speak with guildmates and friends, either a chat through Steam, or a VOIP program would be your solution.
Be careful about searching. Sometimes the most obvious entry isn’t the proper one. Diablo III ended up with a phishing link at the top of Google when you searched for “Diablo 3 Forum” at it’s launch.

EDIT: inb4 I get another “Infraction” for speaking out against the empire.
You really can’t be taken seriously if you aren’t going to discuss the subject with an even hand.
So how is it my fault when there are so many people who have the same problem as i do in this forum? I seriously doubt this is a matter of making different passwords for different games.. there’s a reason i use the same password its because so i dont forget it. Ive tried using completely different passwords for other games before and Ive completely forgotten what they were hence you see why i prefer not to do so.
Doesn’t matter. You’re playing a mind-game against people who want illicit access to your account. They don’t care if you have to use the same password because you’ll forget any others. Re-using passwords is just a bad idea and damages the security of your account (admittedly to varying degrees).
True, when you put it in perspective obviously this is going to be the forum where all the hacked accounts are posted about so it seems like a large number, especially considering how many people play this game. But I don’t know, I’ve hung around WoW help/support forums and Warhammer Online account issue forums before, and I’ve never seen this many people posting issues with hacked accounts. Of course it’s hard to tell if it truly is sketchy without a sheer number comparison. Unfortunately, we’ll never get that, so anyone’s guess is good. It’s just a personal hunch I have I suppose.
But don’t dismiss the other possibilities, too. Cause like I said, we really don’t know.
I’ve watched a number of launches and a similar uproar happens in most games like this. Tabula Rasa, APB (and it’s relaunch APB:R), Rift, and many others all have their own waves of compromises. It’s too big of a leap for logic to assume there’s “something bad” going on here on ArenaNet’s side. At the very least, Diablo III’s session-duplication was trackable.
It’s character slots! One wants to try out races and classes at the beginning, how is that so crazy unreasonable?!?! They should not put a store up if they cannot even manage delivery of goods and prompt response to store issues. Store involves real money. It is not professional at all to not deliver goods AND have long waiting periods for resolution.
I’m sorry, it’s my fault for simply trying to play the game, enjoy it and heaven forbid send some money their way. Oh I’m soooooooo sorry for being such a fool indeed. rolls eyes
Overreact much? I’m not saying it’s an acceptable position to be in, I’m saying do what you intend to, wait until things are satisfactory before spending money. I’m also saying that with the amount of accounts compromised certainly don’t help you for a speedy resolution.

[…]don’t you think a warning would have sufficed just as well? If he does it again, by all means, ban him for a few days.
People don’t respond to warnings, and just giving out warnings allows the behavior to continue. End result is you get the same environment that Xbox Live has.
Does anyone else find it odd that sometimes all of the Arena Net people just disappear?
That’s kind of what happens when it’s 0130 EST. :P
Yeah it wouldn’t bother me if they didn’t claim to have 24/7 support on the forum. And its randomly throughout the day. No one from Arena Net has posted anything for about 45 minutes across all sections of the forum. Makes it hard to fit some “sit down and get support” time into your day, you know?
People will respond when they can. This isn’t a chatroom.
Same thing happened to me. It also charged me twice to boot as well! Submitted a ticket yesterday morning… nothing.
1-2 weeks? Wow. Nice. I guess there’s no point in spending any real money on the store if I can’t be assured I will get what I actually paid for… 1-2 weeks is not a reasonable wait time.
The game’s new, things are still rolling out. Don’t spend money until you’re satisfied with how things are running, there’s no point in arguing against that and I’d be much happier if that’s the way you did it. However, some patience is needed due to the launch. Things will be chaotic for awhile.
I think Black Lion may be having trouble. If you used your card on another account, the system may be blocking it due to risk. (ArenaNet had to disable risk management on my account for 24 hours after I bought my father Gems on his account. It’s since been reinstated of course.)
And I know most are due to those things. However, when you see such an uncommon surplus as we have with this game, it tends to lead one to wonder if it’s really all the consumers fault. The chances of this many people being hacked at the same time all due to their own mistakes is astronomically low. I’ve never seen it happen anywhere else without a company announcing they’ve been hacked.
Let’s keep this in perspective. We’re in a forum named “Account Issues”, where people will post when they have accounts compromised or billing issues. Naturally it will sound like a significantly larger proportion of players are fighting with this problem when the WvWvW queues are at a healthy one-hour long wait.
When you see nothing but complaints by hanging in a forum like this, you tend to get the feeling that it’s a bigger problem than it really is.

Oh kitten sorry, my bad, i got confused with the time zone difference. I am here in Australia. Still 8 hours to go i guess……..
Thanks for clearing that up for me, that time difference thing really got me confused.
Admittedly, I’m giving you a hard time. Ticket turnaround time is nowhere near their estimates right now.

Where did you read ArenaNet was compromised? : /
Have you attempted to use your old password to log in? If that doesn’t work, submit a ticket.
Profanity filter isn’t a license to use profanity. It’s an odd concept (one that I’ve thought was very strange for the longest time) that people just need to shrug and accept. Behave in game.

My ban was for racial slurs, yes I did use a racial slur, yes it could have easily offended someone. Yet the manner in which I was using it was in pure jest in a PvP match with only 10 in the audience. The one who said “reported” as soon as I said the word N***a proceeded to “troll” me after I destroyed him 500- 100 in a tournie match.
Just.. don’t.. write it. You want to know a better way? Use Teamspeak or Mumble, something that you control when it comes to content.

There’s always “flares” of compromised accounts starting with the game’s launch. Bottom line is, people can’t or are not willing to take responsibility for themselves and would rather blame the authority.
They should just premanently on the profanity filter, nobody would complain about not being able to swear -.-
No, people would just bypass it then.
Not the same login, and ive used different variations of the same password. I had no requests for password resets whatsoever and would’ve preferred that option over a perma ban.
So then you ARE NOT using the same password you’ve been using for so long.
You guys are missing the point that he has using a similar password through 8 different games, probably over the span of almost 10 years, and it’s never given him any trouble till now. Until this game. Whether or not you think it’s a mistake to do that is irrelevant. What is, is that it hasn’t been a problem until now.
But, it could just be a coincidence. Don’t automatically dismiss it as his mistake though. There are three possibilities here, and you don’t know which one it is unless you’re the one who hacked him. And in all probability, the chances of it causing a problem now due to his own error is slim. Just like if you have a perfect driving record for 10 years, then get into a car accident. Is it more likely your fault, or the other person, who is new to driving and thus has no record, but is nonetheless new (Arena Net)?
I’d agree with this IF most account compromises were not a result of shared accounts, compromised e-mails, or old/reused passwords. Regardless as to whether or not he’s been okay until now, he’s still following poor security practices if he’s using the same password as he originally claimed.
For the record, ArenaNet (in junction with NCSoft) has been “driving” far longer than you expect.

Ya but if its not directed to you mind your own business, pretty much how the world works.
Don’t put it on my screen then? You sent it to me, be it via public space or not. If you want a private conversation, then use whispers or party.
Keep in mind that Chargebacks are more than just getting the money back. There are fees and penalties involved that ultimately are caused by undesirables gaining access to your accounts, not a result of ArenaNet.

You can stuff it into your bank as the bank is shared for the account. DO NOT DELETE your first character or items until after you’ve deposited them.
Not really… its hard to remember by anyone’s standards and has never gave me any heartache.. no reason it should now.
You use the same login and password that you’ve used through a number of compromises? Remember, Battle.net has been breached as well. Despite the passwords being encrypted, it’s just a matter of time (if people were serious about it) before your password would be decrypted and people would be probing your account. I’ve had a few password reset requests e-mailed to me prior to ArenaNet shutting that option down. I know full well that these people are actively attempting to get into these accounts.
I would bet that any account tied with the card that initiated a chargeback would be locked.
Remember that if you do a chargeback, ArenaNet has no requirement to do business with you in the future. I don’t recommend a chargeback at this point as people are starting to get their accounts taken care of now.

I’d like to see RSA tokens implemented. (I just feel safer having them, and I have what.. four of them on my chain now?)
As far as turnaround time I’m seeing four the eight days for compromised and uncompromised accounts alike.
I have never had issues with my game password… and I have been using the same one for a very long time with no issues.. Hell i use it on my diablo 3 account and never had any problems
That’s a Grade A mistake.
Basic info for everyone.
She’ll need to submit a support ticket. With security problems cropping up as a result of people using e-mail and password combinations that were found on compromised fansites and other game sites, they’ve disabled the option.
… seeing as how the OP didn’t mention his wait time or what his situation is, I really don’t see how your issue and his is comparable.

Wow they are censoring the heck out of this thread people. I’m not sure I want to do business with a company that censors everything. This almost feels like SWTOR’s forums the way they are censoring things.
Just as long as you don’t start claiming First Amendment violations. I don’t see censorship here, just trying to keep things running smoothly. This is a support forum after all.
