Ah, on a side note: I think I remember someone stating that this “one time only” event merely marked the beginning of Act 3 – under the assumption that it might just be something like the fountain in LA finally bursting open to reveal the Mad King Thorn (finally freed after several centuries), it would kind of make sense to only have this once

Frotee.2634

When the main argument is “making it a one time only event is unfair because some people won’t be able to make it”, well….there’s not much they can do about that. There will always be people who won’t be able to “make” a specific time. Stop whining about that.

I CAN understand whining about making it happen at a time that is hugely inconvenient to whole continents though. People always have a choice on whether or not they allow themselves to be spoiled by youtube etc., but they don’t have (much of) a choice on whether or not they need to get up early on mondays to go to work (or school).

We’ll just have to live with the way it is executed though – and at least most european players really don’t have a reason to complain oO I, for one, woul be hugely inconvenienced if the event happend at 12 CMT – 19 (or 20, as I live in Germany) GMT is perfectly fine though.

Although I am REALLY bad at this, I wouldn’t want it taken out of the game – what for? I mean, who would benefit by it no longer being there? It’s not like it counts for the Halloween achievement.
However, I agree that it would be much more fun if you could do this as a solo instance – I am having enough trouble with the camera getting stuck at certain points (if I don’t jump at exactly the right angle), hardly being able to see where I could go doesn’t make this any easier.

Just read the bug list thread. Like others, staying ignorant to the problems makes the game more enjoyable. I wish I never came here, since I wouldn’t have even realized how broken things actually are. Ignorance is bliss. Of course the class is playable, but when you play others, then come back, you realize just how broken it is. I can faceroll mobs in 3 hits with my Guardian. I can stand around as a Ranger and pew, pew, pew away. Barely have to think. Not so with a Necro. Before I rerolled other classes I thought WOW, this MMO is “slightly” difficult, then I realized its just the Necro. GW2 is just as easy as every other MMO is you play a “working” class.

Believe me, I know the bug list – doesn’t make the profession much less enjoyable to me. Guardian, seriously does feel OP, but I still don’t enjoy it – but then, I never much based my fun around how I was supereffective. If I can “get things done” in a way that is acceptable to me, I’m fine. Of course I’d like to see the bugs fixed (and see some of the axe power return we had in beta) – but I still just don’t get how you all fell so badly underpowered and doomed on the necro. What do I care if others can do stuff better than me if I’m not enjoying the way they are doing it?
I’m not into competitive gameplay. I do his for fun, in my limited freetime – and I have a rather positive outlook at life. If I was so angry about how specific aspects of my class don’t work..well, I just wouldn’t waste my time complaining about it to no end. I’d write abug report and move on to something more enjoyable, which is why the neverending QQing in here is driving me nuts – and why I rarely ever visit the necromancer forums.

Yeah, sure…don’t you love stereotypes >_> No, she doesn’t play a thief, she brought an elementalist to 80 and then started a necro, whom she is enjoying immensely.
And yes, ALL professions ARE bugged and their players are whining about it, and it is not just the necromancer who apparently has only 1 or 2 viable builds – heck, the lacking build variety in rangers was just confirmed by a dev. So stop playing “oh dear me everyone hates us etc.” rollseyes

By the way – yes, I did play Minion master until about level 60. Even despite the buggy minion AI, it was laughably easy. And I still feel that there are classes which make PvE way more difficult to solo than necro. And before we start arguing which profession has the most bugs…well, I want some statistic with that.

With the amount of QQing going on, you’d think the necromancer was unplayble at the moment – which it simply isn’t.

GW2-you need more advertisements for the game!!!

Frotee.2634

If more people demand the game from advertisements they see. The Shops will start stocking more of the game on their walls. Get where im going? K good. Now. If you buy the game it comes with a neat little instruction manual that I can tell you I know half of the purchasers will read because its more user friendly then any other manual out there. Isnt the point of getting a new game to figure it out and have fun playing it?

Word of mouth only goes so far. And I think people are missing that.

You are thinking short term – I’m not If you go at this strategically, there are hell of a lot more factors to take into account. Also, these classic marketing channels you ask for are extremely expensive; what with the propensity of uninformed customers to complain and leave (heck, maybe even demand a refund because their expectations were not met), you’d have to seriously look at the cost-benefit ratio and the customer lifetime value of the players thus gained.

Btw: I agree that a short manual with a few nice pictures included in the game box would be neat. However, I don’t have any statistics on the cost-benefit ratio on that either, what with the availability of this manual in .pdf form.

GW2-you need more advertisements for the game!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Frotee.2634

Frotee.2634

It’s a different kind of strategy. Of course, more shiny TV and magazine ads would create greater awareness – but then, don’t we have enough people jumping into the game without first reading up on what it is about, then open thread after thread after thread with same complaints, which could easily have been avoided had they just accessed the existing information before spending money?
(No, I’m not annoyed at all, it just seems that way…I want a “USE THE KITTEN SEARCH FUNCTION BEFORE OPENING A NEW TOPIC” hammer. Now.)

…also, using mostly word of mouth generates much more suitable customers who are likely to generate more profit (and more positive word of mouth) in the long run – while saving advertising costs. Brilliant, don’t you think?
Also, it’s not as if GW2 hadn’t already sold 2 Mio. copies

As for the placement of GW2 copies in stores, this is not merely dependent on advertising, but often has something to do with the bargaining power of the game’s publisher (or whatever) over the store.

kinda shocked… ArenaNet Necromancer portrayal…

Not one mention of DeathEater….

They look exactly like DeathEaters from Harry Potter…. that kinda sounds really sad when I put that out there, but I liked the movies so it doesnt really bother me. Almost identical when you use plague form or go deathshroud…. just think of the scenes when they are all flying around fighting, all the DeathEaters are shrouded in black smoke and mist… On my asura I can really see the whole wand play aspect when he is flailing around that scepter back and forth.

But yeah, when I look at the screen I dont really think Necromancer… but I think that’s more asthetically then what the class actually does. They do have summons and the whole locusts thing really gives off that whole “death and decay” mantra, so technically it is there. But im more of a curse guy then summons… so I primarily see DS, Plague Form, and scepter spam.

Ironically, I really hated the portrayal of the Dementors (Death Eaters are merely the followers of Voldemort), because the looked too generic and non-disgusting to me. Also, I never thought of the GW2 necro as a dementor oO
I like the portraial of the class. It is close enough to the GW1 necro, but functioning within the boundaries of the GW2 system. Also, the only defining criterion of necromancers which seems to be agreed upon in Literature is the “power over death and the dead” part – and it’s not like we lack that.

I finished off all three Orr maps (if you count Straits of Deastation) – and while it was quite difficult in the beginning, I was having a blast yesterday doing a big event chain. Yes, it was definitely created around group play – this is, after all, not a single player game You can solo Orr, it’s just a good deal more difficult.
Also it does have quite a few interesting ideas and, as always, nice details built into the world…If you want to have abreather while doing lvl 70-80 content, go to that Norn area where you can happen upon Jormag’s claw

Btw: The only way I (as a necro) got myself killed a couple of times was by trying to get somewhere, choosing the wrong way, and trying to just run past waves and waves of undead…until I ran into a wall. Was quite funny though XD

Ah, yes: The reward for completing the zones was quite nice. The last one even gave me orange gear which I could use! With runes which fit my build! I only ever got Orichalcum though, when I really would have preferred gossamer…oh well, off to farm we go…

It's just not worth the trouble to play Necromancer.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Frotee.2634

Personally, I found the Mesmer much more breakable than the necromancer, who is more forgiving if you’re kind of bad at keyboard movement and miss a dodge or two.
I hardly played any necromancer during beta (because I wanted to savour that one for release) and played quite a lot of mesmer, elementalist, ranger and thief (in PvE – PvP just isn’t my kind of gameplay) – while the necro definitely did have a higher dps output during beta (axe was just…wow), I still have most fun on this class when comparing my experiences on the different classes. I still want to lovve the ranger more than I actually do, the mesmer simply didn’t feel right to me, and neither did the ele (glass cannon >_>) . Thief was fun, but hadn’t figured out how to deal with larger numbers of enemies.

I agree that the necromancer is in dire need of bug fixes and a buff or two, and I can understand it if many of you say that you won’t play it until it has been fixed – but I simply can’t agree when you say “it’s just not worth the trouble”. After all, this is still a question of play-style preferences; no matter how efficient other classes are, if I have no fun playing them/ don’t like the feel of them, well, then those may also not be worth the trouble.

During beta, we knew we couldn’t possibly get anything to max lvl – and jewelery was comparably hard to get, and was something everyone could use. Now, crafting is something that is meant to carry us even through endgame – and people probably care more about what stat boni their weapons and armor have. Hence, more people crafting weapons and armor and less crafting jewelery…

Peoples obsession with lack of knowledge of the game before release

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Frotee.2634

Frotee.2634

I find it perfectly fine to criticise GW2 – it does have failings, although I find many of those to be highly subjective.

However, to criticise a game for including (or lacking) features whose existence (or lack thereof) in the game has long been advertised…well. That indeed IS the criticisers’ problem. No one forces you to read up on the features of any given product before buying – but if you are careful about what you spend your money on, it appears sensible to make informed purchases. If not, well, you probably wouldn’t get so angry if a product didn’t meet your expectations

Concerning invested money, GW2 can be treated much like any offline game – either you like it, good, continue playing; or you don’t like it. In that case, well, put it away and play something else. Maybe try to re-sell it, although I believe that can be quite difficult with online games. Or give it to a friend – maybe he/she will enjoy it more than you did.

Edited to add: I must admit, when I first encountered the famous DEs, I was a little disappointed, too. If broken down to the basics, they use exactly the same mechanics we have known for years – and there is basically just a rotation of probably 5 mechanics at most. However, I have since come to appreciate the underlying mechanic: Wherever you go, there is always something going on. And it won’t always be the same, or end the same way!
Of course, if you keep “farming” the same areas over and over again, this is bound to get old. This, however, is a player decision, as the world really is quite big.
