I’d say that the only winners were, as Grimm mentioned, people like me who were online during that first 30 mins after the announcement and who quickly traded in Laurels for Unid’ed Dyes to sell. People who quickly snapped up cheap dyes and flipped them for about 5 – 10 times their value during the initial surge may also have profited. Anybody else likely came too late to the party.

OR people who speculated on this development when the news about account bound dyes in the Chinese release first hit the net, like me
Since I’m a coward (and rather poor), it wasn’t that much though…

What crafting mat has a good actually value? Items on the TP have prices set by supply and demand. Upping supply would likely decrease the price of a mat with “good value”.

Except if you then introduced a popular item that requires a ton of said mats to craft…

Elementalist survival (PvE)

Frotee.2634

Ele’s are highest dps in game. top dps <-> lowest survivability. seems fair

then why is my main, a necro, more powerful in general PvE and survives like mad?

what did you mean by “more powerful”? powerful in what?
damage? no
support? no
buffs? no
survival? yes
necro’s are selfish and useless for party in any pve/wvw/pvp scenario

you have never played a necro have you…
they are really good at support, can heal whole groups of players, let other players do conditions otherwise difficult to do and you call necro’s selfish?
man oh man, talk about not checking the facts……

Necros aren’t the best in anything other than having the highest hp pools. They have no cleave, which is HORRIBLE for PvE, deal very low damage in comparison to the other classes, and don’t even support the best.

There’s no reason to ever want a necro on a team. Support on this game is with control, blinds, reflects, blocks. All of these a necro isn’t known for. The only control necros really have is fearing which is a burden in dungeons.

Actually, necros have excellent access to blinds. And taking conditions from you, spreading them around your foes, turning them into boons, group heal, …
You can specc necros for very decent support – problem is, you sacrifice a ton of damage by doing so.
Our biggest problem though is our difficulty of acquiring (and sharing) boons reliably and timely…
And that people will keep pushing foes out of wells all the time -_- (Also, how is fearing worse than knockbacking enemies out of AoE circles? A well placed Staff 5 has saved many a sqhishy party member of mine when rushing through certain dungeon areas…)

That being said, having played a necro from day 1 has kind of ruined me for eles – I am SO bad at surviving and doing damage on my ele…will probably have to consult a couple of guides for that.

Nerfing Warrior regen...why Anet!? WHY!?

in Warrior

Frotee.2634

I think it helps to remember why Healing Signet was changed to be what it is today in the first place.

Warriors were a total PvP joke.

They had no access to blocks (because shield is a joke).
They had no access to regen (because builds precluded it).
They had no access to reflects.
They had no access to teleports.
They had no access to invisibility/stealth.
They had no access to knockdowns (because hammer hadn’t been fixed yet).

As a necromancer, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about warriors whining about this issue :P (Hint: this attrition class here doesn’t have them either. No where. Nada.)

Anyhow, It is good to see nerfs coming to warriors – maybe someday, they’ll have to make sacrifices just like everyone else to achieve good results in any one aspect of gameplay…

I was pretty disappointed upon release to find that my favourite faces from the beta were not included.

Well i’ve dropped 1500+ hours into this game and im already bored. nothing to do. these living story patches are disappointing and give no motivation to continue playing this game. Where in gw1 i sunk in endless hours. WvW seasons another sorry excuse for actual content to play. Patches they said to release that never did, hence the 2hd double sigil fix, or class fixes that really need it. Whats wrong with this picture?

Now how about you give us some idea of what you would consider ‘not boring content’?

Impending Significant Dye Changes

If Dyes become account-wide, the demand for dyes will ebb down and their prices will drop.

Yes and no. There’s a lot of demand out there that says “for just one character isn’t worth it…” that will look at the (vastly) increased functionality and be moved to buy.

The current market goes down, but a whole new audience enters play.

Personal speculation: A rather short peak in prices, as people speculate on the market of ‘for just one character it isn’t worth ist…’ and ‘supply will go down’, then ebb out for a good while – until the market of identified dyes is mostly empty. Then it’ll probably go up again (some) as the lowered supply registers.

Like, why did you buy the item in the first place if you were oh so offended by how it looked? Why would you do that and then demand that it be changed for EVERYONE ELSE who actually enjoyed it and was pleased with their purchase? What makes you think that you even have the RIGHT to make such a petty, immature demand on everyone else that plays the game?

…you didn’t even read my response, did you? Take a minute, breathe, count to ten, read again.
Also, please stop accusing me of things I didn’t do. No where in this thread did I demand that they change existing armor for people who already bought it (to the best of my knowledge).

Kinda disappointed that my male’s zodiac chest hardly shows any abs anymore after this update :-( it was kind of the reason I wanted to buy the skin in the first place, but I’m starting to be afraid of what I purchase now that skins seem to keep getting updates that some of us don’t particularly want.

Anet should pay attention to posts like yours more often. People who complain about nipples and skin are just trolling everyone else who plays the game. It’s sad that some people don’t realize that this is a common tactic among people who just want to inflame a community.

You do realize that trolling and complaining about blatant sexism are two very different things?

So baring male nipples is okay, just not female nipples? And you consider what I said sexist? Wow. Great point to read when I just woke up. And you aren’t trolling? Are you sure?

Look up “topless equality”, and then think twice before calling someone who is for it “sexist” again. Such blatant hypocrisy is comical at best, worthy of a /facedesk at worst.

Is this entertaining for some of you? Bringing a petty “war against the nipple” onto my favorite MMO, at the monetary cost of me and other players? What’s next, mandatory head coverings for all female characters? And yet somehow I’m the sexist??? This is what I get for having fun on Monday, right? I have to have a depressing killjoy the next day. Can’t enjoy a video game without someone trying to cut off my character’s nipples. Classy. Thanks.

I wasn’t calling you sexist; I was calling "bringing out yet another armor with a definitive “oh look, BOOBIES” feel to the female version (and still less chest coverage on the female version) sexist. I mean, just look at them on a female norn or even human – and tell me the breast area doesn’t seem like a visual focus.
Yes, it is nice to have male and female armor with obviously the same style and theme and a similar level of coverage – but the female design is still clearly sexualized, which gets really old really fast. Why is it so difficult to design armor whith a cool theme AND a nice balance between covered and sexy (=classy)? Why do we usually get either VERY sexy or completely covered armor?

I honestly don’t care about the nipples, and if I had enough free time to troll people for fun, I’d probably still do something more productive with it.

And you want to take your emotions about the proportions of the armor out on OUR purchases that we already made? Do you seriously think that you’re entitled to edit other people’s purchases without their consent??? Controlling much?

And if you notice, the guy I originally quoted in your post was talking about the MALE armor. So, yea…this isn’t about “GAHH SEX!” or limited to any one gender. This is about Anet changing our armor after we purchased it. Keying our car after we bought it, all because you stomped your feet for weeks on end. Even if they made it bare skin with pokey nips, I and others would still be here, complaining that our armor was edited on a whim, and/or solely at the demands of people on forums. There is NO justification you can make for this. It is unethical, pure and simple. So stop trying to justify your need to control other’s purchased goods. It is the worst thing about our society, and the source of all ails – the desire to control others, no matter the cost.

I was reacting to this: "People who complain about nipples and skin are just trolling everyone else who plays the game. "
Does the meaning or intend of this quote significantly change depending on who you responded to and what this person said? Hint: You were obviously generalizing.

Also: Where exactly do you expect me to vent my anger about the Zodiac armor but in the thread created specifically for feedback concerning it? Would you seriously have me open yet another thread on the exact same topic? I just don’t get your expectations.

I also don’t get the outrage on the ‘change’ to the existing armor set as they obviously changed nothing but the visibility of the nipples on the armor map.
If they changed anything significant on an existing gemstore skin, of course people who already bought it should be reimbursed.

Hey brah, they work hard, and they need money. It’s either cash-shop or monthly fee. Pick one.

I’d rather pay a monthly fee. It costs less in the long run.

in one year it costs $170 to keep your monthly fee up, that’s allot less then maybe 50 bucks of gems…..

50 dollars in gems is 4k gems. That’s ~4 outfits. Which can only be used. On one character. And if you want to change your outfit, that’s going to be additional gems to split the skin from stats, and then apply a new one. And so on. And already that’s 1/3 of the cost for a year.

Yeah, I’d be ok with a monthly fee if it meant better cosmetics in a game that bases its entire endgame around acquiring cosmetics.

I very much doubt you’d get these designs for free if there was a monthly fee – looking at the payment models in other MMOs, you have both a monthly fee AND a cash shop – which, more often then not, not only sells fancy seasonal gear-stuff, but also makes that stuff last for a limited time only.
So what is the problem with the GW2 gemshop again?
(Taking into consideration that I’d very much appreciate an ‘unlock’ instead of ‘buy once’ option for armor.)

That for the price of a full DLC for a game, you can get a single use cosmetic outfit. And that the only new cosmetic sets since the game released are locked behind that paywall. And that GW2 was touted as a game with a focus on cosmetics as your endgame instead of stat grinding. Yet here we are a year and a half later with not a whit of any new attainable sets in game. Also because GW1 seemed to manage just fine with account wide unlocks, and somehow, Anet has not yet gone bankrupt.

I believe they are making a good deal more now
Also, you CAN still get everything on the gemstore for gold instead of gems – allowing you to pay with either money or time. Ans it’s not as if there weren’t a good number of skins in the game – it’s probably just our bad luck if we don’t like them.
Also, DLC prices vary – not exactly a perfect comparison.
Still – my main argument was that a monthly fee likely wouldn’t change anything about the gemstore, and I stand by that.

I WOULD like account wide unlocks myself. But I can also see why we don’t get them…
on the bright side, Anet is still hiring and apparently providing a pretty nice workplace, so at least these soulbound outfits are still creating jobs.

And when the popular and well informed commanders aren’t on, you don’t have a win-guarantee on main, either – even if they are there you might still fail due to stupid participants in the current round. There are no guarantees, but you can work toward giving everyone a good chance.

For my own part, not speaking for anyone else, I’m just tired of seeing “heavy armor” with more skin than metal. That’s all. I think it’s a funny mistake on Anet’s part that they included nipples, and also somewhat bizarre considering their stance on the subject. Did you know that the female Orrian heavy chestplate used to show flesh underneath the claws covering the breasts, rather than a metallic plate? They changed it in Beta Weekend 3 or for release, I forget which. No one even complained about it, but apparently that was too tasteless. Now that they’re making money off of it though, clearly even nudity is fair game. It smacks of a cheap cash grab.

I’m not taking any kind of moral stance. I just think it’s sleazy, from a business perspective and from a content/design standpoint as well. I like nipples, I even have a pair myself. But I really don’t see a particular reason for them to be displayed on my supposedly armored character.

Except this armor has no skin showing at all. There is zero nudity. Granted, it’s skin tight armor but still. As for the alleged nipples. I’ve seen the pictures on the thread and they look like graphic glitches to me. Artifacts of the light hitting a rounded, shiny surface.

sigh
It’s so tight that it may as well be skin – therefore, it makes no difference at all for people who take offense at getting yet another new armor set that practically cries ‘LOOK! BOOBIES!’. Because it does – just try to convince me otherwise :P

Having a man’s chest displayed in a similar fashion (and they are more covered up – less even, flashy blue skin texture) isn’t much of a sexual objectification – it’s fulfilling a (male) power fantasy more than a female sexual one. Particularly the way these armor skins are styled – that’s no ‘making male toons as sexy as possible to female gamers’, in contrast to the way the female skins are designed. Look at TERA for sexyfied male toons…

Ah yes, to everyone saying that we shouldn’t complain about the skin-like look of the blue, and how it wasn’t different than various super-hero costumes: I hate most of those, too :P

Seriously, was it necessary to make the opaque armor-parts not cover the breasts like, at all? This is why I only ever consider this kind of armor for my Asura, where ‘boobies’ are non-existent.
(Can’t we get more classy sets in the gemstore, please? The game already makes it hard to find a middle-ground between ‘covered from head to toe’ to ‘if I was to cosplay this, my boobs would fall out and everyone would see my panties’ – for scholars, at least.)

I mean, for goodness sake – the male breasts are more covered up than the female ones! How does that make sense for such a skimpy thing?

Please enlighten me and point me to the nearest mystic forge in any of the capitals. LA’s convenience was that it was the only place where crafting stations, mystic forge, trade post and bank were all close to another. Now you either gotta pay for that convenience (and quite a hefty price if you have 8 or more characters) or -on crowded servers- queue for EB, or suffer a lot of loading screens when trading/crafting/forging alot. I can totally see why this is hardly acceptable for many players to be honest. It’s an awful decision to hide these services behind a gem store exclusive item.

The nearest Mystic foge ist just a … uhm … P click (?) away Or press the PvP button, whatever strikes your fancy. You can access that one from literally everywhere, and exit right where you entered.
Also, TP, Bank and trading stuff is much more conveniently placed in Rata Sum in my opinion.

I am very happy with the changes to sigils and looking forward to what is going to happen to runes.

I am, however, very unhappy with even more nerfs to the necromancer. If you feel it is too strong in PvP, couldn’t you please separate those nerfs between PvP and PvE? Conditionmancers (and necromancers in general) are already very unpopular in PvE. Further nerfing our damage potential seems a tad…ludicrous.
First balancing several traits around a seemingly too strong Dhuumfire, then nerfing it into uselessness (conditionmancers hardly ever use Deathshroud for damage, really) can’t really be what you intended to do. If you are unhappy with Dhuumfire, couldn’t you at least move it to something conditionmancers actually use, or move it into the Curses traitline? A Spite GM that works only with a very slow moving DS attack isn’t worth the name.

A disturbing trend

This reaction is not something unique to MMOs. People are excrutiatingly lazy when it comes to ‘getting information’ by anything other than standing around and having everything shoved into their faces

I remember that we usually get some NPC conversations at the end of particular story steps giving us a clue about what to do next. I do admit that this is difficult with the marionette fight, but hey, even in other events people just don’t listen.

After this I told him that’s all there was to show in terms of living story. He was bummed, as he has no understanding of what any of the alliances are, what Scarlet has been doing and what we as players have been doing to stay busy.

There is actually a Story Instance in LA with nearly all main characters from the LS so far, and the discussions between them refer to many past LS updates, giving the new player something to understand the past of the LS. Check your UI next time

This. Also, there are those nifty videos summing up what happened so far in the living story

The whole point of having limited-time content is to get people to actually keep playing and keep logging in though, so it is kind of understandable that you won’t be able to grasp everything that went on while you were away. It is kind of working as intended I think…

Aside from that though, we know that Anet is thinking about and working on better ways to allow us to recap what happened so far in the game. There was a CDI about this I think.

[BUG] Shadowstepping Champs in Lane 5

The thing is, they only do this in the 5th lane – is this intentional because the fifth is somewhat longer and narrower?
It does always feel kind of mean, because the defenders have to scramble to keep up…

So why do people still fail marionette?

There are a lot of casuals. I remember saying that we needed good dps from warden 3 onwards, and I got people asking me what dps was. The platform I ended up on had a staff camping guardian who evidently thought he had high dps.

DPS is an acronym I frankly had to look up/figure out, too (though some time ago) – just because you are used to throwing around abbreviations to any and everything, don’t assume everyone who just wants to play the game will understand them, too Additionally, not everyone on your server – particularly when you land in overflow – may be a native speaker. Also, just because someone doesn’t know the term DPS, doesn’t mean they can’t grasp the concept when it is explained to them.

People asking what something means are good people! They are actually interested in learning and use the map chat to communicate and to soak up information! What really kills these event are people afking, disabeling map chat and not speaking up when they don’t know what to do.

Lastly, please stop throwing around the term ‘casual’ as a means to convey ‘uninformed and unskilled’. I identify myself very much as a casual player, but I am a decently skilled player carrying my own weight in fights and regularly help organizing the big world events I take part in.

When you want to say ‘players who have no idea how to play their profession efficiently’, just say ‘unskilled players’.

Remember, they also said that zerker stats would still be best in slot for pure DPS – the difference in effectivity compared to other stats will be lower though.

Levels - why do we have them?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Frotee.2634

Frotee.2634

We have levels because people are used to them and don’t feel like they are progressing and developing is there isn’t some arbitrary number going up.
Well, mainstream MMO-people, that is.

I loved GW1s system of only having 20 levels in which you got to know your profession and unlocked its skills, after which you could play wherever and whatever you wanted.
GW2 has this too with its first 30 levels, but to make the vertical progression folks happy, we keep adding numbers until we reach 80.

Actually, we know that Asura can and will pilot golems from the inside – heck, every single Asura player character of level 30 or higher can!

That being said, you gotta love forum autocorrect for bad words XD

Seconded, so much! I have accumulated a bunch of those scrolls, but I’ll probably never use them all…

Though it should probably be restricted to ‘once per character’.
