I think every profession can summon things (thief a little less I believe) – what do you expect of your summons?
Also, every class can support. Yes, really.
Huh, I found the starter zones fairly well populated, considering the game has been out for months now oO And yes, even the sylvari one. Might really be a time of the day problem…
you might want to try the norn starter area for a change, it ought to be quite busy at the moment
Also, at lvl 17, you should already have encountered several story instances. And no, there are no healers, and while there are more and less tanky classes, there is no class that can actually willingly hold aggro. You’re largely self-reliant, although playing in a group will make most of the game much easier, because there are many other forms of support (vs. merely watching healthbars).
Have you tried finding a guild? There’s a subforum centered entirely around guilds looking for members. Also, you should see guilds advertising in mapchat from time to time.
make it harder ?!
This game really needs a seperate Normal and Hard Mode, like GW1
I tried North Nolan Hatchery with an lvl39 Necro (yeah buffed to lvl80)
Could not do it.
First part with Rox, went fine.
Then destroy Sonic devices. After i destroyed the first one there was some fighting at its location (foes and my minions prolly). Then when my minions died, 5 to 10 foes came at me. I fled out of the instance.Yeah, i read groups or a real lvl80 char is recommended.
But it would be nicer if any char lvl could do it.
Try going in with wells, they work a blast on the groups that spawn out of those portals. Also, Lichform works wonders on those Sonic devices. Lastly, deathshroud 4 is your friend, especially when traited to draw life
Granted, my necro was lvl 80, but I didn’t have any problems at all with a conditions/well build. Well, got downed right at the end because I wasn’t especially careful, but still.
Also, I like the difficulty as it is – I do this mainly for the story, there’s other content if I want a challenge. If people really want this to be harder, I’d petition for an additional hardmode.
Also, as for observing that chance meeting:
The whole Flame and Frost storyline was set up, storytelling-wise, by your race’s Destiny’s Edge member (who has, if you remember, served as some sort of a mentor to your character through your personal story) sending you a notice about the Bad Stuff happening in the north, urging you to go help out.
Now, being familiar with the members of Destiny’s Edge, it does actually make sense for you to check in with the command center in the area once in a while (instead of just running around the map looking for heads to bash in). And seeing as the Norn, as a whole, are much less organized than the charr, plus half of the threat stemming from Flamelegion Charr…well, logically speaking, you would be skulking around Rytlock’s offices from time to time.
While random encounters are not necesarrily a good way to tell a story, they are used often enough, so don’t act as if this was totally outrageous. I’m pretty sure we had some chance encounters over the course of GW1…
Also love the return of actual cutscenes. While I did like the ones we got in our personal story, I like those even better – much more dynamic
Ah…sooooo you don’t believe in playing new content in order to enjoy said new content and watch the world grow?
To be fair, I hadn’t seen anything of new skins only available through RNG in the cash shop before looking at the forums. I rather like the rest of the update. Also, I never buy anything RNG based off the cash shop (except for a couple of dye sets for my first character).
Ah, on a side note: I actually don’t really mind Anet putting new cosmetics into the cash shop, as a rule. That what it’s there for, after all. I would prefer it if you could buy them directly though.
(edited by Frotee.2634)
Frizz Freston, I actually agree with you.
- I think the voice acting could do with some tweaking, but as a character, I liked Trahearne.
You also meet him in the Sylvari Personal Storyline, so he is not just “popping” up, as some say.
What do people have with Trahearne’s voice? o.O For me, it’s the defining characteristic that makes me like this particular character so much. (I find his voice fairly sexy)
Also, I do believe that the ‘popping up’ of quite some characters is meant as an appetizer – to entice you to play the other races, too.
…I really don’t understand why everyone and their pet feel the need to tell everyone else why they are leaving – I just don’t care.
That said, I love the comedic undertones (and overtones) in both the personal story AND the persistent world. If I want deep, dark and intense storytelling, I read a good book – or play a single-player game, though those (with a deep story AND gameplay that is fun to me) seem to become increasingly rare…
Also, some of the more successful books I know have a lot of comedy in them to balance the action and suspense. It’s all about personal taste I suppose (plus I still find much of the Lord of the Rings fairly boring – awesome world-building, great language development, lackluster storytelling).
(edited by Frotee.2634)
Yep, knew about it and loved the idea.
However, if they end up like keg brawl, which is basically a badly explained PvP mode in something like an extra instance…then I’m not sure I want them that badly after all :/
Tagging on a necro is extremely easy So many AoE options…
I feel like Necro AoE definitely outshines Mesmer AoE, but that might just be me (also, I don’t like the staff much on my mesmer). Mesmer does have better single-target dps though, and its class mechanics are quite fun.
Necro is quite a bit easier to play in the beginning, and I adore its survibability. Mesmer is more of a ‘favourite child’ though, so you’ll probably have an easier time finding a random dungeon group on a mesmer.
The necromancer even has ways to turn boons into conditions – Focus’ Spinal Shivers rips off boons and does more damage for each removed boon, and Well of Corruption, which turns boons into conditions. Very handy
Well, yes. That’s pretty much what the game is about – gear will not net you a significant advantage over other players. Skill will. (Let’s face it, levels are only there to make you feel accomplished; however, seeing as your opponents gain in strength/level as well…you’re not really getting stronger, relatively speaking.)
Also, keep in mind that more expensive weapons are not necessarily more powerful…
I would. But then, I don’t really get why people hate underwater so much. Yes, certain skills don’t work underwater, but I see that as a challenge – and as a nice change of pace when I have to use some other skills (and therefore another build) for once
(Necro here, btw)
…you know, what with so many people complaining that PvE is faceroll-easy, I’d have thought they’d enjoy underwater some more.
I just don’t see the fun in that, but if you’ve got that much gold to spare and don’t see the appeal of actually…you know…’playing’ the game, suit yourself.
Just don’t come crying for more levels, gear progression, etc. when you’re done.
Something else I have been thinking about since posting this thread: The game has gone through some major changes since launch, that people feel like the company has betrayed them. I wonder how many of these changes have been made because it turns out that in practice some of the design philosophies they really wanted to include just doesn’t work in the MMO game format?
The only part of the philosophy that has been abandoned is “no vertical progression.” Horizontal progression works in an MMO format, it just didn’t work for enough customers to satisfy the financial decision makers. I’ll get back to you if they change classes to provide for tanks and healers.
That’s the problem with wanting to make a game that is different and attracts even people who usually dislike MMOs – you’ll still attract enough MMO-hoppers who were only expecting ‘more of the same’ and start crying if they don’t get it. What I’m reyll interested in is whether that portion of the player base really spends more money in the cash-shop…
You could always invite your friend over and let him play for a bit (or just watch you play – did the trick for a friend of mine)
They need to make them NOT account bound. Then they can be sold on the TP and salvageable. And, those of us that like WvW more than fractals can gear up our characters too.
It is lunacy that you can buy every other tier of armor/weapons, including legendary, on the TP, but not ascended.
Normally i would say… to bad, run fractals if you want fractal loot….
but Anet changed my opinion when they made “fractal” players have to do daily’s, and now guild missions to progress through fractals….running fractals does nothing to help me advance in fractals anymore.in my opionion there are different main focuses for players
pve player – farmer, legondaries, cares about karma
fractal player – fractal weapons, fractal gear, fractal levels
pvp/wvw players – logs in to pvpstop forcing people to cross their main focus, it just makes people mad.
If ascended gear had the same stats as exotics, but also gave you an infusion, I wouldn’t care at all about how you obtained them as they would be specifically for running fractals.
The bump in stats really irks me as a WvW player. Like you said, I must go outside the part of the game that is the most fun for me to go get the best in slot gear.
Sure, I don’t need it, which is the common argument at this point. But, there is also no reason to keep better stats locked behind various pointless content just to keep people playing the game longer.
It doesn’t even necessarily make people play the game longer – it may merely make them play different content (which they don’t even like).
Another note concerning scholar on humanoids or Asura/Charr:
If you are playing a female and are keen on showing lots of skin, put your scholar on a human or norn (or sylvari, but it’ll be bark and leaves then).
If you don’t like flashing your panties, go with an Asura (or Charr).
Also: By all means, make all three – play them up to lvl 22 (30 at max) or so to get the whole racial storyline, and then decide which profession you like best.
Eighty levels was a really bad idea if you ask me. It stretches out the levelling process for far too long, and only a minority of content has been balanced for top level.
I wonder if the level range came about after designing the trait system and wondering about how the piecemeal it out. Again and again i feel that the game mechanics were built for SPVP, and was then shoehorned into PVE so they could sell it as a MMO.
Nah, I really think that was a result of so many people shunning GW1 because ‘oh my god, only 20 levels, what am I to do of I reach max lvl that fast? O.O’ ~_~
Also, if you look at the size and scope of the world, you’ll have to realize that the ame was indeed built with both PvE and PvP in mind from the get-go. They did want to attract the masses this time after all…
Seriously, it all depends on what you find fun.
For example, I really like my necro (scepeter/dagger and staff condition build) and ranger (shortbow) in PvE, they also suit my lazy playstile fairly well because they can be farily durable (high hp/dual hp bar, pets, …).
However, I do think they are relatively repetitive (also due to being really easy when played correctly).
Guardian bored me to death, and while warriors do have a nice damage output, I just don’t enjoy melee, and range is too slow on a warrior for my taste.
I’ve just started to really taky a liking to my newest mesmer alt – I’ve tried that particular profession several times before but it never really felt right, but this time, it just clicked. It also gives you several viable playstiles, very decent dd and condition damage, something to occupy mobs with (clones and phantasms), and stealth for emergency retreats. I can even take on a bunch of mobs+ a veteran if I do it properly…at around lvl 10. GS really works very well, mainhand sword can give you a challenge and, well, if you like watching your foes kill themselves, there’s always scepter
From what you describe, you might actually enjoy elementalist, too – except for the “dying to groups of mobs” thing ^^°
(edited by Frotee.2634)
Guardians use scepter mostly as the only option since it’s really the only ranged weapon (staff is also ranged but much shorter range).
I don’t have experience with other classes, but I use the scepter a lot on my mesmer with a condition damage build. Scepter autoattack on a mesmer gives creates a clone every 3 attacks, clones do almost no damage but you can trait them to apply bleed with critical attacks, so you have 3 clones applying bleed can stack fast. Also since you can only have 3 clones out at the same time, creating a new one destroys one clone, and you can trait for clones to cripple and apply more conditions to nearby enemies when they’re destroyed, so you can keep kiting and crippling targets while you bleed them out. Also the constan flux of clones are perfect for shattering builds.
That said, if your goal is for a character to wield meteorlogicus I’d go with an elementalist… it’s just that it gives me an elements vibe that fits it better, IMHO. Now if mesmers could just use bows, the dreamer looks like a perfect weapon for them (though I think the bitfrost fits them very well too).
Your post made me realize the OP should go with Mesmer! Why? With all the other options you only get one Meteorlogicus but with a Mesmer you get 4 of you holding Meteorlogicus.
That is actually pure genius XD
(Also, I kinda love scepter/torch on my mesmer for the sheer confusion output, seeing as “confusion”-conditions were my favourite source of damage already in GW1)
Agree 100% with the OP.
As much as I enjoy the new dailies, my overall ‘feeling’ while playing, my enjoyment of the game has…dwindeled.
I just can’t make myself ‘just do what I enjoy, when I enjoy it’ anymore, because it feels as if I’d cripply myself (in the long run) by doing so :/
As a side note, you may really not want ArenaNet (or GW2 for that matter) to automatically block access from (certain) foreign countries without a way to ‘unlock’ them again. What if you ever travel there and want to have a short gaming session on your laptop?
I was just on vacation in Italy and wanted to update my faculty’s website concerning some timetable information (I should not work during vacations, but it would have beekittenMinute task…) – however, it was impossible to load the login-page from there. Even playing around with proxies didn’t really help (and it wasn’t so important that I wanted to waste hours on it).
Also, I’m pretty sure Chinese players would have to play on US servers, seeing as we only have a choice between European and US servers
You can easily play a necro without any minions. Not the mesmer though, because that one has ‘minions’ (the term rellay doesn’t fit) on all of his weapons.
Just try them out and stick with what feels the most fun.
Seeing as my immersion in MMOs can’t compare to the immersion in a single player RPG or a good book, said MMO may as well amuse me – seeing how I have to deal with enough ‘seriousness’ in my real life.
Also, I like to laugh.
I have very small Guild of close friends, who were all on the same server – so yes, I did stay on my home server (Gandara) for my guildies, and I don’t care if you think that’s a valid ‘excuse’ or not.
I don’t WvW (or hardly ever…I did get 100% map completion after all, and the WvW part really annoyed me) because I don’t enjoy competitive play. Also, I suck at PvP, so I don’t take much enjoyment of going into WvW and getting slaughtered by other players unless I run with a mob.
Necromancer is probably the most forgiving scholar – I am usually too lazy to dodge in Orr, standing in the middle of 3-5 mobs running a condition/wells build works just fine
At early levels, anything with some sort of pet works fairly well though – necro minions might be stupid as all hell, but they are quite useful at diverting attention from you long enough to kill most mobs before they come close enough to hurt you Also, rangers with bear pets.
But yeah, if you like melee and heavily armored professions, just go with a guardian. They do have a *load of boons.
I still won’t bother with Ascended Items. At all. Problem solved
Sorry, I can absolutely understand if you wnat easier access to your pink Quaggan backpack, but PLEASE don’t throw me in with you – I’m a lady and I abhorr pink.
Alas, not all ladies have difficulties getting ‘their’ quaggan backpack.
(You struck a nerve here – I hate all that kinds of industries think they can please all women simply by offering stuff in pink -_-)
Am I the only one who considers several explorable paths in different dungeons far easier (and less time consuming) than the storymode of several dungeons? (yes, AC, I’m looking at you – as well as TA…)
Some sort of unique reward for the really really time consuming storymodes would be kind of nice.
Yep, happens to me too – especially when ranged. Bloody annying :/ If that happened on my ele (which I hardly play) instead of my necro or ranger, I’d be dead within minutes…
Why would you not give testers access to the personal story? oO Seriously, what’s the point?
Personally, I’d opt for a 3-5 days trial, eliminating access to mail and trading, limited access to guilds, bank and mapchat.
Indeed – unfortunately, my mouse cursor is rarely where I need it to be when using AoE. which makes me feel like I lack at least one pair of hands…
I just can’t compete with grenadier-mobs because I have difficulty moving, aiming and selecting the correct skills at the same time, seeing as I need two hands for moving + skill selection and another one to aim. Having really small hands doesn’t exactly help…
Why, when you have WvW for that?
You have 2 modi where you can PvP as much as you like – why would need you force it on the PvE players?
Btw, GW2 is no PvP game. It is a game that has both PvP and PvE and something in between – all on equal grounds.
In short, it’s kind of like animal trapping, you gotta figure out what type of animal you want to catch then build your trap from there. You should try and become the kind of guy the girls you like like. ‘Be Yourself’ doesn’t mean you can’t change.
Haircut Fitness Hygiene are really good starting points.
Sorry for the messy writing.
Boy that wording makes my skin crawl
How is anyone supposed to know “what the girls they like like”? We are individuals. Every girl out there has her own ‘type’. Yes, there are general indicators that will make attraction more likely (confidence, I think, is usually one of them), but there’s just no guarantee that it’ll click. I still place my bets on ‘accidentally’ finding your partner by just doing what you like…too much pressure won’t lead you anywhere.
Except for the tiredness and soreness…ugh exercise is the worst, I’m very confident of that.
If you’re feeling sore the next day it’s because you haven’t stretched your muscles before the exercise. Or you overdid it.
Nah, you can become sore without even realizing you overtaxed your muscles while you were doing it You know, when you’re not even consciously doing any sports, hence see no need to stretch… Happens to me all the time when I’m transferring patterns to fabric, cutting fabric, pleating fabric etc. on the ground (table is too small and usually to crowded) – that half-kneeing position is really stressing one’s tights ^^°.
But yeah, sport does make you happy. kitten I so need to do something except walking my dog again…gotta start getting on a schedule once I’m back from vacation (yay skiing ).
I’d sign the ‘just live and enjoy your life’ advice, btw – I just ran into someone apparently desperately looking for contact and friends, and it just…weirded me out. I’m really busy at the moment, I don’t want to become someone’s lifeline! Especially someone I don’t know at all.

Algorithm of PVP: kill other players -> get points -> buy more powerful items
Algorithm of GW2 PVP: kill other players -> get points -> buy item to looks different???Am I missing something?
You are.
Imagine if you will, someone, such as yourself, joining the game 5 months after everyone else, where in PvP everyone else had 2 or 3 tiers of gear higher than you with superior stats…….you’d have no chance.
This can be easily resolved by adding players ranking, so mostly only players with same rank will battle.
Still, you may as well get used to not gaining a gear/item advantage in GW sPVP EVER It’s just a different system and has been their staple since GW1.
If you want a level/gear ‘advantage’ in PvP in GW2, you’ll have to do WvW. However, that advantage will probably be rather abysmal, as (enemy) numbers are usually king in WvW, and any advantage you might gain – at this point – through e.g. Ascended gear (which not everyone bothers to get) is rather small.
If you want a crusader in the sense of ‘warrior of god’, guardian might give you a better feeling, what with the flashy blue lights and all.
As for the looks concerning armor, it really doesn’t matter. Try both and see what you like better
Ohhh I remember we had a post just like this a while ago, where some of us posted a lot of advice…let me look it up for you, as I am a lazy (and busy ;_;) person and looking for the link takes way less time than writing all that again
While I am looking: People usually connect due to some shared interest. What do you like? Do you have any hobbies that may take you among likeminded people, if you joined a club or something? Would you be willing to try out something new, see if you like it, and just talk to people you meet at this activity? (I really only started to gain real friends when some people established that monthly anime fan meeting in my hometown roughly 12 years ago…good times )
Edit: Wait…that WAS your post 2 months ago. Sorry, I don’t think I have any ‘new’ advice to offer :/ (You could have reanimated the old one, you know)
(edited by Frotee.2634)
Just ran AC yesterday, spawned near enough to easily get the two lovebirds to start fighting
Anet have repeatedly stated that they don’t ban people just on hearsay from players, but always look into the case themselves (…or whatever team they have looking into botting issues).
If you want someone to blame, blame the stupid players still buying gold from goldsellers, thus providing an incentive for goldsellers to hack accounts and run bots.
Also, reimbursing you for something you might have missed during the time you were unable to play…just doesn’t work, really, from an economical standpoint.
On a sidenote: I also have a shortbow ranger who’s frequently running around with a bear-pet, and I never ever got banned. Admittedly, I usually use my necro for farming, on the rare occasions that I do spend my time farming.
Easiest way ever to complete the healing daily is by visiting the reactor in Metrica Province and rezzing the NPC there…just sayin’.
Luring mobs into unsuspecting afk players is just rude and harmful. Also, it takes ages.
Ahh…I just found out that my system clock actully was wrong, set to the wrong day, which also caused my dailies to go bonkers.
After I changed that, I didn’t crash anymore. I’ll do some further testing over the week though (would be perfectly happy if that was the solution).
Those sound suspiciously like dynamic events
My thoughts exactly
Except that there were some nice ideas in there for more diverse events which probably don’t work in a persistent environment, thus the instances.
Hm…that might actually be quite nice, as an addition to events, especially for those who have finished their personal story but really enjoyed those instances…
I agree with your base argument, but I still don’t appreciate the introduction of Ascended gear :P
If you want to run a bunch of alts (I do), then don’t expect to be able to gear them ALL up at the same rate that a player who dedicates themselves to a single character, can. If you have six characters, it should take you roughly six times as long to completely gear them all up.
That used to be acceptable to altaholics. That used to go with the territory. I see no reason that needs to change now.
You obviously didn’t play GW1…*sigh*…good old times…
And yes, the whole deal with Ascended gear (especially once they roll out full Ascended gear) is anti-alts. At the moment, I am still ignoring Ascended because I just don’t want to jump onto that treadmill…but when we get nice looking Ascended armor? Man will I be frustrated >_>
They’re an equivalent to “kitten”
Edit: Sorry, I’ll try to jokingly explain without using the correct word…
You can use them to ompare your achievement level to others. There are even people asking for an option to see other players achievement points in order to judge their pwnage…uuhhhhm I mean skill, of course.
This very slow living story just might be a reaction to so many people complaining when they couldn’t atten certain one time events…
