Piken Square’s in pretty good shape I think – at least a large part of my guild ‘lives’ there
At least if you install Windows via bootcamp and play on the bootcamp partition (under Windows), it runs pretty smoothly at low to medium settings (on my 2010 Macbook Pro, probably better in a newer Macbook). Definitely playable, did so for almost a year.
The Mac-Version of the client is still pretty slow I think.
The content is exactly the same between all servers – you can guest in PvE to check All that changes when you switch/guest servers is the timing on dynamic events.
As for WvW, your server determines for ‘whom’ you fight WvW – you cannot guest to fight for a different side in WvW. So if you are really into WvW, you may look for a very WvW-active server…maybe ask in the WvW subforum? I don’t play WvW much, so I don’t know.
I think I had to enter my serial key when I installed GW2 (is there even a demo? I mean, it’s not like you have to pay a fee to keep playing it…) / made my account. But I honestly don’t remember, it’s been so long ^^° Have you tried reading it up in the FAQs or looking at the manual https://www.guildwars2.com/en/manual/ ?
Uhm…you’ll probably find more players on well-populated servers? oO
I know there are some unofficial Roleplay- Servers, but I keep forgetting which.
Ohhhh I love this I completely missed out on the article – and many of the details it mentions. I’ll try to pay more attention in the future XD
Frankly, I had a LOT of fun sticking around after I got my achivement and trolling other players for a bit XD
You always knew where to find someone who’d actually get hit by your snowball
NO! I have little time to play. If I want to immerse myself in the world and walk, I will. If I just want to get stuff done, I don’t.
Why is it so difficult for people to just not use things they are not fond of?
Hint: The good part of the game starts at lvl 2, because (aside from Dungeons and Fractals) you’ll be doing much the same at lvl 80.
Also, isn’t Dark Souls supposed to be much more difficult than GW2? oO
Now, if you want GW2 easy-mode, just play Guardian or Warrior.
If you have trouble gaining levels quickly enough to be able to do your next story step, you may also try visiting the other races’ starting areas – there are various regions catering to your current level (the lower the more zones, actually).
I solved all the puzzles (I didn’t fight anyone, so that should count as solving – right?) but didn’t get the achievement after beating the tower again. Anyone know whether this is bugged or is there somthing I missed?
The puzzle achievement seems to be bugged as well >_>
Oh, something different every week. Some living story, until I got the meta if it’s not quite my thing. I currently enjoy doing fractals. Some dailies, a JP here and there, trying out new builds, goofing around and helping out in my guild. Killing stuff (sometimes, I just want to kill stuff). Playing dress-up with my alts. Leveling alts.
World completion, when I didn’t have it – that was very nice. Discovering new things, doing mini-dungeons. I always find something to do, and when I don’t, I do/play something else for a while – read a new book, binge-watch a new TV series…
I actually love Coddler’s Cove – great practice for precise jumps, plus the NPCs will heal you when you miss. Secret Garden, when there’s one of the events up when I’m in the area (still the most beautiful JP out there).
If we get an answer highlighting this as working as intended, I know what I’ll try sometime next week…
I sincerely hope not. I hate grinding for levels, I’d rather just play with what I have and enjoy actual content.
You can get it without getting every single achieve in it thanks to dailies. I still have at least one fractal/boss that hasn’t popped (grawl and molten boss, iirc) and I got the meta — I think I only had 2 or 3 fractal sessions to do it, too.
Pretty much this I still haven’t seen dredge or snow blind since the patch, and only gotten to Solid Ocean yesterday or the day before that – long after I got the meta.
I don’t know – but you can get the meta very quickly. Say 2 or 3 Fractal runs?
Weird, before the game went out, I remember a lot of people (me included) talk about how we would love extra cosmetic options purchasable on the gemstore (instead of boosters, skillpacks, etc. – I don’t know, I never played a p2w game).
… I still don’t get how it is a bad thing to offer special skins on the Gemstore, particularly considering how many armors are already in the game (not purchasable through the gemstore). I might object when one day, we have far more (and prettier) options on the gemstore, but we are a long way from that – and it is still possible to pay for those options using ingame gold made by actually playing the game.
So what exactly is your problem again?
+9000 for this thread. Seriously. I don’t even have anything to add, because you put it perfectly.
Less skimpy skirts and ‘look at my boobs’ for scholars – more pants please
That’s pretty much all I ask.
Although I really wouldn’t mind having some more asian-y options for all armor classes – I really loved the ranger armor from factions, btw. Or something like the GW1 monk armors…
Do all the JPs Find all the diving goggles and perform the perfect dive.
Kill all the bosses from the related achievement tab (good luck with Hydra Queen -_-).
Try your luck at WvW.
Try getting transformed by the skritt burglar. Find and complete all the mini-open-world-dungeons. Become a Master Chef.
(Seriously though, since I don’t do PvP and don’t know what else you enjoy, it’s difficult to make recommendations)
Use the search function. Please.
I think there are also people still playing GW1 – not many, but some. So you may not even have to solo (with henchmen and/or heroes) everything.
I’m too lazy to help out right now, but try using the search function of the forum, I think there were a couple of threads for this kind of think already – you might find someone there. Also, you may try to find a nice guild – if you leave a ‘looking for guild’ post in the correct forum, you should be contacted pretty quickly.
To help people know whether they can help you: Are you playing on a US or a EU server/world?
Pretty much. On the bright side, you can sell that crappy stuff on the TP or salvage it for those essences which improve your Magic find.
You don’t even ‘need’ exotic gear.
You may get into trouble with elitist players needing to complete their dungeon speedrun 15 seconds faster, but as long as you have more important things in life, I don’t see any problem here
I just don’t get how you can allow a character like scarlet to make your whole gaming experience so miserable you want to leave? Most living story updates take what, 3-4 days to ‘complete’? With the rest of the world still there, even a little larger than it was at release?
If you did like the game without Scarlet, why not simply ignore her?
Uhm…guys, how exactly could you miss the info that Scarlet’s Arc is already completely planned out and in development? I’m pretty sure Anet has registered that many people dislike Scarlet, but it’s not like they could change much now (production cycles and such). We’re stuck with her until her story has played out.
I just don’t get the necessity of another ‘we don’t like Scarlet, please take her away’ thread. It’s not gonna happen any time soon, deal with it.
Ahhh sorry, kinda kixed that up ^^° What skin is Legacy armor again? (I bought the CE on release, which didn’t include special armor)
Finished it on my main (and enjoyed), can’t seem to finish it on my alts…mostly get stuck at ’don’t want to do claw Island again’ ^^°
Dungeons feel weird storywise because they are concerned with a completely different story branch (getting Destiny’s Edge back together)
Legacy Armor? You mean the one you get if you also played GW1 to a certain extent? Because you can get that armor skin again and again and again from your Hall of Monuments. So yes, it is permanently on that item, but you can reacquire that particular skin over and over again for new items.
It was somewhat awkward, and I doubt that gig had a decent ROI, but it was a very interesting idea – and it did look as if all involved had fun.
The costumes were just plain awful though
That sad, I don’t think it’s all that weird to pledge your allegiance to a video game. Have you seen what people do (at least verbally) to folks who openly admit to not liking certain games (e.g. GTV)? That’s an extreme (and misguided) form of pledging allegiance.
Making a dramatic video in order to win something? Fun sweepstake generating likely to generate high involvement. It’s not like anyone is forced to do this, but people who don’t take themselves all too seriously might have a lot of fun with this.
Such campaigns (funny videos, contests, attempts at viral marketing) are not so much about hard sales (well, the hint at the bargain price probably is), but more about building a brand and generating awareness (and, in case of the contest, involvement) – which is then expected to generate sales (and references) over time
Edit: The ‘recite in public’ rule is actually genius.

My only gripe with fractals is that high-level Fractals are (and will likely stay) the most efficient way to obtain Ascended equipment (and I see it becoming a standard, which bugs me).
Other than that (and as long as you don’t care about ascended) – why would you be bothered by a type of content you are not forced to do, but others may enjoy? It’s like people complaining about the SAB.
Yep, encountered that, too. First fid the story fractal, then a normal fractal run. No daily. Slightly frustrating :/
Yes, it is challenging – we wiped several times today. It was also fun though, with mechanics which can be learned pretty easily. Actually, I really liked the boss mechanics.
And I’m no veteran either – I have a personal reward level of 4, and did it with pugs (one of them ‘only’ lvl 63).
You just need to bring some patience. I will admit though that we asked dulfy after a bit, so there really could be more hints. But it is definitely doable with PUGs – fractal beginners at that.
Ah, but that would be something silly, not something major(ly frustrating), which I have absolutely nothing against
Also, I do believe this thread is in the wrong forum. Would be more fitting in the general Living world part, wouldn’kitten
Ugh. Seriously, please don’t. I can absolutely live with Scarlet (yes, she is bland as hell, but I like Jester types) in most LW updates, because they center around something she did/is doing…but having her and her established minions (Aetherblade, Molten Alliance, Toxic Alliance) in Wintersday would really be too much.
Maybe something silly, like having her recode the toys to steal presents (in LA, much like the Grenchie…I forgot what they were called, in GW1) randomly poppuing up in the city, but nothing major.
Also, I am perfectly aware that IF Anet had planned to have Scarlet play a major role in Wintersday, it would be far too late to change that ^^°
I know why I won’t try before the first bug-fixes tomorrow (Actually, it’s because the sofa is very comfortable right now, but still.)
Ahhh yes, the good old GW1 hexes Loved them to death. Always ran a Spiteful Spirit build on my necro. That one is pretty much covered by confusion though.
Heck, I’d even keep disease in its ‘current’ form, where you have to be careful around enemies from the same species.
So yeah, I’d always be up for disease, barbs and fragility. Don’t see them added to the game though, sad as that is :/
I’d actually be perfectly happy with an item that turned soulbound into account bound. I have a couple of backitems that I stupidly transmuted onto items only my main would be able to wear now…
Frankly, putting an Asura female in your typical female armor would look ridiculous – simply because most female gear in the game is made around showing off boobs, and Asura don’t have boobs.
Note: This is criticism of female gear in the game, not Asuran anatomy. I would like to see different armor on male and female asurans, but I don’t really see it working with what we already have ingame. Also: More pants for scholars, please. I hate skirts.
Personal favourite ‘skill update’ would be new elites. Just sayin’.
I must agree though that I’d actually enjoy trying out a new profession – even though it would probably by a heavy armor one. Also, Tengu – I always seem to enjoy the first couple of levels and the race-bound story most when creating an alt. It would also be pretty amazing to learn what is going on behind this great wall and how the Tengu have fared since the dragons awoke…
I still don’t get why it was a mistake to have exotic so easily obtainable – but then, I never got why it needs to be difficult to obtain max-lvl gear.
Yes, I would be thrilled if they removed Ascended gear. Not gonna happen though.
…uhm…fun? Trying out a different profession/ experiencing a different race-based storyline?
….. >.> make the most fun to have in the game…. Shorter?
I respect your opinion, but I would like to request this not happen…
Instead, fix bugs like harpy invulnerability and such… But keep it challenging and fun so we can still feel amazing after finishing.
The “fun” parts of every Fractal can definitely be condensed into 15 minutes or less. The rest of it is just mindless tanking and spanking trash or giant DPS sponge bosses, i.e. filler content.
Aiming for a ~50 to 60 minute completion time for a full set of Fractals (for levels 30 and below at least) is the reasonable thing to do.
I second this. If you have so much fun with fractals and wish to spend more time in them, well…just start another round? It’s not like anyone is kicking you out after 3-4 fractals. However, more than an hour on a single type of content (which does not really allow you to pause without inconveniencing your party) is quite difficult to manage for folks with, you know…family, pets, responsibilities.
We do like to have fun challenges too – but do they really need to drag on for so long?
Ohhh so this is a bug? I am almost relieved.
EU player on Gandara here, logged in today to find I am suddenly the only member in 1 of 4 of my guilds. How can I fix this?
Uhm…guys, what happened to the guild? Why am I suddenly the only member? oO I really liked you bunch!
Edit: Nevermind, I apparently caught a known Guild bug. I just hope it goes away soon, being alone is kinda…lonely.
(edited by Frotee.2634)
I had a very nice example of how much player skill influences survivability doing a PUG run in Fractals yesterday. While one of our guardian and the other necro kept going down (I didn’t die quite as much on my own necro, even though I wouldn’t consider myself a particularly good player), while our only ele practically danced around their corpses. Particularly in the Grawl-Shaman Fractal where you have to be careful not to get set on fire constantly…
I really didn’t have much of a problem on my necro, not in Fractals and not in the Tower. But then, I do have lots of options to get rid of conditions, plus a large HP pool, plus a second health bar.
I don’t do as much on my mesmer, who feels a tiny bit more squishy, but I never really had a problem surviving on her, either.
Well, depends on what you like for you first few levels of personal story…
Political Intrigue: Humans.
Heroism: Norn.
Nature bound Mystery: Sylvari.
Technobabble and real-world/popculture-references: Asura.
Uhm…Military-ism: Charr.
Or something along those lines. The first couple of story missions have a unique feeling for each race – apart from that though, you can go wherever you like from lvl 2 on. So it’s up to what look and feeling you enjoy, really.
raises hand
I’ve only done maybe 6 fractals, and still have no idea how to get out of the swamp
I’m perfectly able to follow directions and figure stuff out/adapt to the situation, but I’ve had trouble with PUG groups where no one really knew what to do and was either unwilling or unable to communicate properly in the chat.
I’d like to learn my way around (to get some Ascended stuff after all) on the Euro servers. I’m also very patient and willing to share what I learn with others.
