I love how this is a timed event and to get all the AP I have to get lucky as it is out of my hands if I dodge everything and one group fails inside. Soooooooo stupid!
I won’t even attempt the dodge achievements – the rest is very doable though, and you really only need 11. I’m at 8 already, so just 3 more days, 2 if I manage to defeat more of those probe defenders.
It’s really not that hard
Since the content was clearly made for TTS I will not congratulate you.
The rest of us will pray for the messiahs to visit the insignificant plebs in the other servers.
Is this really the future of gw2?A world boss was taken the furthest yet by a GUILD, in GUILD wars 2? Yep that just sounds ludicrous..
Gratz TTS.
People, please stop misinterpreting the game title. Guild Wars refers to the wars between established guilds in the game world before the start of Guild Wars 1. It was an in-world history thing, not a reference to the PvP system OR how the content is supposed to be tackled.
That said, I too find it kind of…odd to design open worlds apparently specifically for specific guilds. But I have shared my opinion on the wurm events on several threads now, I think I’ve made myself clear
Pah, you forget that we already have Golems we can enter
I love the marionette fight. It requires coordination, but not abominably so, is easily explained before the event starts, and has you fighting in decently sized groups (20-30 people in the lanes, and 3-5 on the platforms). It’s still challenging, but doable enough for open world content. And since it’s only here for 2 weeks (supposedly), the 100 people requirement isn’t so bad either. And it feels really rewarding when you beat it
Now, if it weren’t for the platform phase bugging out on a regular basis, it would be perfect
Also, if you’re only spamming 1 in the defense phase, you’re probably playing warrior – you chose this, so why are you now complaining about the easy/boring gameplay? Other professions do get to use more of their skills to effect here :P
Seriously, who games at 7 or 8 in the morning? ^^°
Seconded. Taimi is so adorably snarky. Asura ftw!
I’m also quite curious on what Taimi knows.
Marientte is for regulars/casuals. Wurm is for hardcore. I don’t have an issue with this.
The trouble is that it requires about 100 hardcores, which is difficult to achieve. I’m pretty sure the hardcores would have more fun with this if they didn’t need to drag along their hated casuals :P
Ok, just tried the Wurm event for the first time just now. As expected it went miserably. Heres how it went.
- Waypointed into Bloodtide 30 mins before fight due to start only to be placed into an overflow.
- Event starts and we escort NPC. Not many people about us to help with escort quest.
- Successfully escort NPC to area (Crimson Wurm).
- Fight starts. Sudden realisation that there are only 11 of us.
- Champion Spider queen event starts right next to the Crimson Wurm event.
- We start to loose people to adds from Wurm event and the fact the the Champion Spider queens adds have joined forces together to kill us.
- Completely loose track of what is going on due to amount of AoE.
- Unable to even see the spore clouds now. Far far far too many adds to deal with.
- General resignation that we are not going to even scratch the bloody Wurm (although we did get it to about 95%).
- Consensus of people in the area, a waste of time.
I have yet to try an event where I have not been in an overflow. Am now waiting for Marionette fight to start, yes, in an overflow. In my lane (Top lane) I can see 7 people. I get the feeling that this will also be a spectacular failure.
For the Marionette fight, you need 20+ Players in each lane. It usually works using map chat, but had difficulties getting enough people in some lanes even though we were on main server and there were overflows already…I always wonder what thos other people are up to and why they are not using mapchat.
Beat her anyway, and it felt glorious Marionette is definitely doable when you explain the core mechanics before the event starts.
Wurms though? 2 tries, both fairly well organized with a seemingly good number of people. No TS though, and the number of ads (and the durability of the wurm eggs and veterans) is just…mind-blowing. Will probably not do that one again any time soon.
Teq is not too hard and I am sure the worm won’t be too hard either once it has been “solved”
Agreed – Teq is not hard, really, seeing as winning mostly requires standing stacked in one or two spots and spamming 1.
It is, however, ridiculously difficult to get enough players together who know what to do if you do not go to a dedicated server or guild – which is not what most people want from open world content.
At least the wurm fight (the marionette is ok and well balanced for coordination in my opinion, particularly since it’s limited time content and therefore more desirable to actually complete while it’s there) just requires too much coordination for an open world event.
Yes, the mechanics are actually nice and interesting, and I’d love to see more of this in instanced content, but not as open world events.
As for the trial and error problem: I agree that we should be given some more hints/clues as to how the fight works, but an NPC explaining the fight in detail just doesn’t click. I’m sure there are other ways of making mechanics easier to figure out.

Remember how the events in this game were gonna automatically scaled based on the players involved? Gotta love bait and switch.
Or how about when you failed a world boss, you’d have reprecussions on the world that would lead to more Dynamic Events, that when finished would give you another shot at the boss.
You know, that system that has all but been forgotten in favor of time gated crafting content, and now time gated World Bosses that simply respawn in two hours if you fail.
These two points. Times 9000.
While I find the amount of players required for the Marionette event ok, as it is a LS event (and therefore fairly well frequented), needing 80+ (or in this case, 100+) players to have a chance at succeeding in an open world event is just insane. It would feel really much more rewarding if coordinated and skillful play would allow you to ‘beat’ the event with less people.
That said, I find the Marionette event a very nice example of a large scale event requiring just the right amount of coordination – because you do need to coordinate, but it’s perfectly doable via mapchat before the event begins, and fairly intuitive after that.
Except for the platform bug, and the fact that you can’t help out other platforms when you already finished your own…
Now that I’ve seen it, I absolutely loved the instance – and the new Asura Character. Asura ftw!
The scenes between Rox and Braham and Majory and Kasmeer in particular were very sweet
The problem is really not the general design of the wurm battles – I like, those, too. What’s frustrating is that this is content designed for a very large, very coordinated group as open world content.
Well, that and the countless mobs (which drop no loot) and the horrible targeting…
This event is much easier than Teq was. The dps requirement is significantly lower.
Just because it is doable doesn’t mean it is good And dps requirements aren’t really a difficulty indicator, just an indicator of what gear you brought…So Teq is actually a lot easier.
I don’t know, the endless amount of mobs spawning on the wurms make the fight actually quite difficult, even with coordination oO
(Could we please get regular veterans? That actually die quickly enough when you hit them properly hard?)
I’d at least want the goodies for losing, seriously >_> Just DCed 2 minutes before the end…
I agree – letting none of the mobs drop loot isn’t particularly nice, either :/ Feels kinda pointless to have so ridiculously many spawns that way.
Whatwhatwaht? Story Instance in LA? Where? oO
Anet had holidays and regular patch-stuff, too
Wait for the patch, then decide
Oh, there’s lots of women in the game, in all skill ranges
I’ve never had any trouble with my male guildmates either though.
(Female on Gandara here, btw.)
I do find it funny though that most players seem to assume that their fellow players are males (own experience in game)…must be a bias & media issue
Play a necro, drop marks & wells on them, enter deathshroud, press 4, pick up the presents. Done ^^
Let her try out both – I know I have trouble surviving on my low lvl engi, whereas necros can actually tank quite a bit of damage.
But changing AI is hard and would require work and wouldn’t turn a profit in the gemstore.
This.
I’ve yet to see a change in game that hasn’t been taking the easy option. I mean, sure, Ferocity makes a little more sense in terms of balance and primary ferocity gear sounds awesome, but that’s hardly the problem with zerk meta. It comes from garbage AI.
Either give us Elite Dungeons (fractals doesn’t count) where the AI is complex and difficult, often requiring varying abilities (blinds, timed CC, aegis, condi clear, stealth, condition damage, etc.) or adjust all dungeon ai.
People, start listening to the whole of a conversation. AI changes are coming, just not in this patch – the change to crit damage is just the beginning.
If you had listened to the livestream, you would have heard that the nerf to zerker damage is just a first step, and that changes to monster AI, reactions to specific conditions, etc. to balance the usefulness of damage, support and control would follow later
Luckily, my server is hosted in Europe, and we’ve not gone that far down the drain yet Although T-Com is trying…
…am I reading this correctly, you ‘completed’ your warrior and find pretty much all other professions boring? Warrior is probably the least challenging profession to play successfully in the whole game!
Or are you maybe confusing boring (which is often used similar to ‘too easy’) and difficult /less reward for more work?
Professions in GW2 obviously play very differently when you have trouble playing effectively on anything other than a warrior or a thief, despite most having access to the similar mechanics.
Necros are hated. For dungeons, you are really limited to wars, guards and eles, mesmers are accepted in some dungeons where they can help the party with some specific tasks. But if you want to be always welcome everywhere, you want a full zerker war.
Funny, I never have a problem finding PUG groups with my necro. Yes, Warriors and Guardians in particular are very useful, but you can do every content in the game with all combinations of professions – with the efficiency depending heavily on player skill. I’d take a skilled ranger or thief over an unskilled warrior every day. (Which reminds me of the good old days, when every idiot was running a Warrior/Monk, often running straight ahead into the mobs hordes and then complaining why they died…)
Then again, I avoid min/maxing speedrunners like the pest. Just not my kind of game.
Er. Well, I guess necros can take care of themselves in pugs, they’re quite durable. Still, you won’t recieve any buff from your teammates, so no vigor… and no reflects. You have DS, though. It’s quite… the selfish class, compared to others.
Yes, necros lack (group) boons. We have a decent group heal (if traited) on DS4 though, can stack vulnerability quite nicely, and a well placed well of darkness may help your group in a pinch. Wells in general, particularly when traited. Not to mention the redistribution of condis…
And they really are quite forgiving when it comes to missing dodges Also, necros can potentially survive every fall.
(edited by Frotee.2634)
Depends. Necro is far easier to play decently, thereby making it perfect for lazy people like me Ele’s make for very challenging and engaging gaming, but are require more skill to play well due to them being very squishy.
Guys, no one wants to take away you super-dps toy (aka zerker gear).
All anyone wants is to take away your reason to scorn anyone who would rather play with a different toy.
Because having only one gear/build choice be really viable in the eyes of pretty much everyone (thus inducing scorn for people who favour a different build and playstyle) is just plain boring.
I really doubt that zerker gear is suddenly going to become useless – balancing a game is, after all, all about balancing the proficiency of different choices, thereby favouring an increase in viability and usefulness of other stat combos and playstyles.
Keeping in mind how often I have to repeatedly pick dagger necros from the ground in dungeons and fractals, you should maybe add that this guide is useful mostly for people comfortable with melee /skilled dodgers.
Putting emphasis on how berzerker is the only viable gear is all well and good, but it only works if you know how to play. A living party member with sub-par DPS is far more useful than a party member who constantly needs to be revived…
(This is also why I usually avoid mainhand dagger – I hate melee ankitten ot particularly good at it.)
Funny, I see silk still rising in price…or at leats not going below 2s yet. Well, I’ll just wait till Summer to craft my Ascended armor.
when they redid tequatl, i went and checked it out, and we actually failed, and i was delighted about that. but look at how many people clamored for it nerfed. because they didn’t want a challenge, they wanted a trophy just for showing up.
Actually, the problem with Teq isn’t that the event can easily fail – it’s more along the lines of being an open world event which needs at least 80 coordinated people who know the fight well and know exactly where to stand (the spots dealing damage to Teq are nothing but dps checks as well). Oh, and the fact that the event can be completely trolled by 8 or ten players sitting on the … thingies. God, it’s been ages since I’ve been there.
Anyway, I’d be glad if they found a way to make zerker gear no longer the only accepted (I’m not saying viable, but then, I don’t care for speedruns) gear in the game. I hate being pressed into a certain gear option/playstile >_> Gimme strong, viable PvE condition builds please! I love dots!
Because I suck at PvP, and don’t really enjoy competitive play. I’d just rather play with other people than against them.
But I’d never begrudge people who do like it, so long as I’m not forced to take part in it (which is why 100% map completion can be so very annoying).
Actually, I’m still pretty glad there isn’t a dedicated healer in the game – or the need for one. While it would be nice if the game tracked (and rewarded) anything other than raw damage, I am sick and tired of waiting for a healer to show up before I can do challenging (or any) content.
That said, I usually trait my necro to provide some party heal through deathshroud 4, and I’ve yet to see anyone complain It’s quite nice to be able to be able get multiple people out of downed state (with luck and timing, at least) while still dealing damage.
…however, it’s still a pain to get enough of those lower level mats, cloth in particular. You could end up completing all appropriate level maps and not get a single scrap of cloth if you’re unlucky (for example, ALL of my completed lvl 70-80 maps netted me ori, none of them got me any gossamer). Likewise, you could work for hours getting very little cloth salvage mats, and hardly any cloth drops from bags/containers. Such is the annoying nature of RNG
Your statements do not match my own experiences over the last 15 months.
Do you salvage armor/scraps you find, and open bags? I get tons of items from every map that are a mix of map level and character level. If you need jute just wander Queensdale, Wayfarer Foothills, etc. and kill humanoids who drop equipment and bags. Every tier of mat has a place where it can be found this way.
And if you find that you are still running short of these mats, it’s easy to buy cloth armor of the appropriate level from the TP (sell the mats you have too much of, if needed) as well as bags which contain a large amount of leather and cloth.
That’s the whole point – not having to buy the mats on the TP, because they are getting ridiculously expensive
Unfortunately, it takes hours ‘wandering the correct maps’ to get enough cloth mats; the bags you mention drop a variety of items, cloth is just one of them, so every bag may have a 1/10 chance of dropping the item you need. Armor drops will mostly be appropriate to your own level, so good luck farming mid-level mats on your main. Of course you get enough mats over the course of several months of just playing the game – but if you are specifically working towards ascended gear, you will need to farm 300 silk scraps, 20 bolts of wool (40 scraps), 10 bolts of cotton, and 20 bolts (40 scraps) of linen every day.
Now tell me how to do that without spending at least 4 hours a day playing
(Personally, I am currently mostly playing the TP to amass enough wealth to be able to buy the stuff once the prices drop, and playing normally on the side)
Well, they had to do something for the longtime GW1 folks, seeing how they erased many aspects of the game we loved
Skins are a relatively easy way to do that.
While I personally wouldn’t use it since I don’t really play supporty, you could try to use this nice editor http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ (or any other) to play around with builds that could make use of this stat combo.
Condition damage is far from useless in solo PvE, btw. It does have serious problems in group encounters due to the stack limit, yes. But some people still just enjoy using DoT, me included :P
Isn’t been there, done that actually the one going beyond 100% map completion? For there are some areas in different maps which do not count for map completion, but for zone completion tied into this achievement…
All the posts above have mentioned awesome ideas to start you out with.
If you have any pressing problems in game, you could of course also try to ask for help in map chat. If no one seems to answer you, you could try to find a suitable guild under https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/lfguild by stating where you’re playing at and what you’re looking for – the guilds who answer you (people mostly seem to contact you directly in game for that) should be able to help you out a lot
Also, doing stuff with other people is usually more enjoyable than doing stuff alone.

Sweethearts, no one forgot about anything. The next content patch simply isn’t coming out before January 21st, and the folks at Anet kind of deserve their holiday break as well.
Patience.I wouldn’t mind one bit if they forgot about it forever
I suppose an option to decide which skin you’d like to keep would be best Personally, I hate the human T3 light set (look! boobies!), so I’m rather excited for what they come up with. Nevertheless, I can understand people who want to keep exactly what they paid for.
i agree. we should be able to craft lesser versions of items if they’re going to make ascended versions, including lesser quality back pieces. why can’t we craft breathing masks of varying quality while we’re on the topic?
This.
Why is it so incredibly difficult to get decent quality/stat back pieces? I can craft exotic accessories, weapons and armor without too much trouble – why no back pieces and breathing masks?
Peeps, we’re still kind of in the middle of the holiday break. I’d wager that productivity in most non-retail industries in countries celebrating christmas and new years’s isn’t exactly at its peak right now I know people at my university aren’t even allowed to work in their offices before next week, because everything is shut down and locked up at the moment…
(Read: Yes, even your game developers need a break every now and then.)

The thing about the revamped encounter is: Doing it ‘the right way’ is pretty mindless, too. Most of the time, it’s standing in exactly one spot, then moving around somewhat in the in-between events, but always in a very specific way – and kitten you if you miss your spot! That’s no challenge, that’s a railroad.
I have more actual reacting to do when fighting the Golem in Maelstrom Mountain…more fun, much shorter, much less people required, more loot (due to preevent and mobs running into you during the fight).
Frankly, I haven’t found the Frostgorge Farm to be all that rewarding gold-wise. I really don’t know what the fuzz is about there…made maybe 4 gold in an hour of rushing about and feeling ridiculously bored? And kitten you if you get stuck in combat.
Having about 160g at the moment, never had more than 180. I could play the TP I guess, and I do from time to time, at least a little…but it just isn’t much fun. But then, I usually don’t need much…I would like to get that set of Ascended armor for my main though, and I just can’t seem to get enough silk just by playing >_>
You could also level an alt by completing areas – those give you BLSKs often enough. Will also net you money from killing stuff and completing hearts.
While we are at it: Is it just me or is cloth armor really dropping much less than ore and leather armor? I kind of got at least twice as much leather and ore from my champ train run today…
