smack..Wut?…smack…smack…

Figured out why that build link I posted seemed odd with the mace in it, it was someone’s attempt to put Koroshi’s build in. It had a few things wrong, including some traits. I corrected the link above.

If you want to troll your enemy into thinking you are weaker than another character of the same class, play Asura. If you want your enemy to think twice about attacking you, play Norn. It will not work often, but it does have a mental impact on some.
Asura are scary. You can’t usually tell what armor they have on or what weapon they have equipped until it’s used on you. Asura Hammer warriors can be scary once in a fight, but outside of a fight Norn Hammer warrior is far more menacing on the psychology scale.
Sir Koroshi had a full regen warrior, however he has stopped playing. I have a warrior with the exact setup he had. Will try to find a link and if I can’t I will bring mine out of the closet and give you the breakdown. I have yet to play it in WvW, it was something I intended to do but I have so many alts I got sidetracked.

Corrected Mists link, evidently someone made a build that was supposed to be Koroshi’s but had several things wrong.

Stealth spamming regen thief, hands down.
The runes were hotfixed shortly after they appeared in game, they actually used to cause this effect.
During the first 2.5 years of GW1, the Ele was pretty kitten squishy. I don’t know what happened after those years, I left the game. The only means to be able to 1v1 or 1vX the melee was to go with an earth build that was low on damage but great on survival and sustained (not strong) DPS.
Talking from a PvP perspective. PvE everyone just went Fire and that was that.
There is more than that “1 in 15 months”. Sadly Ranger pulls in all the Tolkien Aragorn and Legolas nostalgics that don’t put forth the effort it takes to play an effort required class well (unlike faceroll untargetting hammer spammers with LOLsignet healing).
I garontee. Eaten plenty of them hammerfacerollers on meh ranger.
Request instant 80 sold in gem store, you will get a quicker response.
Anet announced prices would go up with the ascended weapons release. Go out and farm materials. The fact materials are so pricey = why peeps have more money and have to spend more money for the same gear that was cheaper when materials were cheaper.
Why do you think, for the longest time, materials were so cheap? Part of the reason was that initial Bot wave that lasted for many months drove prices in to the ground. The lack of forsight on what this would do to the economy is exactly why people got Exotics faster than Anet thought would happen. They didn’t factor in the cheap materials from the massive amount of bots farming the game.
Everything is balanced. If prices to craft is higher, selling materials earns you more money or farming them will cost you very little (Vendor Mats you still need) to craft.
I don’t see the issue.
I love the ranger hate. You may not see many good roaming rangers, but once you encounter one and get crushed you will feel ashamed and never share that story. So all you read is the bearbow ranger rally meat stories.
Yep yep, of those 2 choices I would go with Ele.
The key to the original thumper was the reduced cost ranger’s had when using those GW hammer skills. Sorry it has been SO long since I played GW1 I forget what it was, same thing that created the infamous Touch Ranger.
Since GW2 skills aren’t part of the specific weapon but instead part of the Class+Weapon set, it could easily be done if Anet wanted to craft it so. I seriously doubt they will.
The biggest part of facing off against the original Thumper Ranger, since I monked RA, was the kitten oversized Moa screeching in my face and covering my screen. Just pure intimidation when flat on your back.
Air if you 1v1, Fire otherwise.
In 1v1 I eat warriors with my ranger. It isn’t my build either, it’s all over the place.
Stealth spam regen thieves are my bane, so I avoid them.
Some times you find a build that suits you and you find your strengths and weaknesses and play to them. Fortunately you can’t counter everything or you would be reading NERF all day long on these forums.
The happy state of the warrior is versatility because they are good at everything and can run virtually any type of build, and play to it’s strengths. Other classes, including ranger, do not share this wider range of options. Warriors are just in a good place in this game.
Pretty sure the infiltration stealth would of proc’ed before the guardian hit downed state not after.
Not if he got hit for the required trigger AND it downed him, it would trigger as he got downed in that case.
These 1v1 stealth spam thieves should be ignored as trolls, cause that is what they are there to do. Don’t get trolled, just leave the scene or better yet lure them into more peeps.
We have made no changes to the drop rates of the Wxp items.
While I understand these types of responses can’t be made to every post, it is good of you to take the time out of your schedule to allay perceptions like this.
For those new to the Guild Wars franchise, in GW1 the use of an Elite skill was an option, it wasn’t required, it simply took up a skill slot.
And yes, for many classes the Elite slot is subpar for various builds/reasons. Take Thief, underwater you have Basilisk Venom and…well..Basilisk Venom.
Ahh now I see the derailment replies. The thread title isn’t “Most useless class in WvW Zerg”. There is more to WvW than just a ball of pvt bait.
With my ranger I have done quite well. Overall most enjoyable class to play due to the build. Had fights such as 1v1 with a warrior who ran off when losing while I held a ruin, then they returned after retraiting and swapping gear to a bunkery hammer warrior. Ran that player off a second time.
Flip any camp solo.
Yeah, useless. The only thing I find useless in WvW are bad commanders, and last I checked that wasn’t a class.
For those times when I am just not feeling the roam/camp flip, I am interested in what others find satisfying when running with the zerg. Are you going glass cannon for dps, tanky pvt with spirits or something, or whatnot? Curious how others are playing currently.
How would increasing pet health really help the ranger in 1v1 roaming situations? You simply kill the ranger or move on.
and I’ve been wondering why I keep seeing it in builds posted around…I thought I was missing something….evidently not.
Yes 5%. I have 5% more health, and 5% mitigation, and 5% more power. So they’re doing less damage to my bigger health pool. All while I’m beating them down doing more damage to them. It’s effectively a lot more then just 5%.
This is exactly the point you can not get across to these “It’s not a big deal” bandwagoners. They just do not comprehend it is a big deal, it isn’t just some small inconsequential increase.
Every good build in this game can be considered as cheesy so remember that and stop showing no sense hate everywhere.
Well said.
Let’s keep an eye on the fact they also plan to nerf Vigor gains on many classes.
none with regen can be kill by a thief
You are wrong here, completely wrong. Speak for yourself.
Interesting find, thanks for pointing it out.
Not much to add other than Engi takes a higher player skill level/class competence to pull off well when roaming.
Add all the percentages up for each upgrade over exotic. Now calculate the improvments over exotic for 5 man, 8 man and zerg. Don’t leave out ascended weapons over exotic, trinkets over exotic. Interesting balance.
To “Lost Footlocker” or something. From this item you can CHOOSE which Weapon Chest you get. As it is now, getting a super rare, account bound weapon box with stats you have no use for is pointless.
Don’t pigeon hole yourself into a weapon set while levelling. Change up every so often to relieve the boredom of watching the same animations.
This was the only way I was able to finally get at least one Ranger to 80. I deleted 1 at level 30 and left my eventual 80 there for a few weeks. Now I have 2 80 Rangers in my stable of 80s. Boredom can kill your momentum.

It’s always viable in a zerg. Just what do you mean by viable in wvw? Solo? Squad? Zerg?
Google power creep before using it as a thread title to a topic that isn’t about power creep.
Still depends on the mob. My ranger wears rare berserker but will still pull aggro off of bear and drake pets.
Toughness, once again clarifying, is NOT the ONLY factor.
Are you outdamaging your pet? Highly likely? Factor.
Long post, short answer.
14 months later, after it was pointed out, and for 14 months asked to be changed, anet has said ZERO on this matter.
It is obvious they have NO intention to change this behavior. Zero.
Let’s move on.
Better yet. Queue up, wait…wait…wait..long wait…game crash….log in…out of queue…
Winner.
This should be moved to the Thief forum.
1. Level 78 exotic Duelist set is better than level 80 rare. Each piece costs roughly 1g, unless it happens to have a pricey rune in it (Traveler or something).
2. Named level 80 exotic sets (dropped) is generally 1g cheaper than crafted, especially true for Berserker. The level 80 named berserker medium set is Nika’s. Search for “Nika’s”.
3. Berserker’s is better than Assassin’s, Power scales better than Precision and thieve’s crit more as an apparent class trait (My Thieves crit more with less Precision than my Ranger).
4. When buying weapons look for named weapons with berserker stats, this will typically save you money (avoid overpriced Destroyer’s though). Remember, dropped exotics are generally cheaper than crafted.
There is also Karma and WvW gear. No berserker available in Karma, but Berserker’s set WvW gear is available.
It is really aggravating to me that you are adding tons of new content, which is often high quality stuff, that have little rewards attached to them; all the while you make cool armors that are locked behind a pay wall in the cash shop. One of these times you are going to have to add new armor that people don’t have to pay for if you want people to stick around. Having these armor sets bing adeed to the Living Story would make the game progress much better and would make me and a bunch of other players feel accomplished for doing it. I’m afraid people are going to bail (again…) when they realize that the Living Story is nothing more than a time sink with little even for the lore freaks.
I just don’t want to see this game turn into another cash shop game where I have to spend real money and I don’t want to have to farm gold forever just to get this stuff. I want you guys to actually make this Living Story thing worth my time and effort. I like having a goal to reach but there just isn’t one at the moment, back pieces just aren’t holding my attention…
The game launched as a cash shop supported MMO. They haven’t deviated from this and it is one of those facts I can not get negative about, since it was a known fact from the start.
DO NOT change :
Shadow Arts V – Infusion of Shadow – This trait functionality has been changed to “Gain initiative when you enter stealth.” 2 init.
This is a horrendous idea. I don’t even main thief, but you’re going to nerf numerous builds into the ground. Thieves will go from being alright to being completely garbage tier with this change.
Honestly, take it or leave it, but it’s a bad idea.
I have 2 thieves, I play wvw with multiple characters. The stealth spamming burst dps thieves are a bit OP, with all the evasion and everything else added in. I believe someone at Anet wants to tone this play-type down. What to compensate it with? Nothing that I noticed.
Thanks for the suggestions Faux. My main issue has been experienced stealth spamming burst thieves who are out to 1v1. I have not run sword/x much in wvw as it doesn’t suit me as well kitten on switch, but due to your points here I think I will drop SB now.
Because you haven’t gone into Beastmaster to improve your pet and you insist on using melee pets against bosses/large scale encounters. The beginners stream may be just what you need.
Which leads so logically into the question ‘Why do I suffer a 25% hit to my DPS for a class mechanic that only (vaguely) works right if I sacrifice 40% of my trait points on the altar of beastmastery and even then only if I’m using a type of pet that makes up less than 20% of the range of choices?’
The issue of “why do I have to have lower dps without a pet” isn’t the same as “why does my pet suck if I don’t trait to support it”. My response was due to the poster having issue 2, you respond to mine bringing in issue 1. A seperate issue you can address to Anet since I did not create the issue you want to bring in.
PVE isn’t the major problem for rangers- it’s wvw doing anything other than soloing..
For pve: why does my pet die so much and yet there is a huge cooldown after both pets are dead? What other class suffers a 50% damage nerf whenever something decides to throw out a random skill that wipes your pet?
Because you haven’t gone into Beastmaster to improve your pet and you insist on using melee pets against bosses/large scale encounters. The beginners stream may be just what you need.
If anyone finds the game codes for the armor sets, please add them to the thread. I like to mix and match before I decide to buy, and it takes a few days for other sites to post the codes usually.
I dunno I like the leggings.
Can’t please all the people all the time.
Yep I would like to see the Barbarian stats available in PvE. I would like Sentinel to become permanently available at an affordable price. I would like to see the PvP Masquerade, Stalwart, and other appearance sets moved into PvE availability.
I have no idea why Anet is foot dragging on this. It’s only been 14 months.
Ever since launch (after they finally got the Trading Post up ). There is some apparent cap with how many posts you can have up at a time or something. Put the fastest sellers up first and it shouldn’t be much of a problem. Unless of course you are constantly putting up 20 legendaries at a time or something.
Yeah, the wrong is they weren’t added….
According to patch notes 1 style per armor type was added, however I am not finding them in Styles or under Search.
I currently run such a build, similar to the link, I got the idea off a video. Since it’s pretty much covered already, I just want to mention a few things about using it in WvW:
1. Really good stealth abusing burst thieves will down you. Don’t go at them thinking you will outlast them. Avoid them in 1v1 situations.
2. While the build is bunkiery as all heck, it doesn’t have any burst. This can lead you to being held up in a fight til others arrive, either to aid you or your opponent.
3. The build is fine and even excellent for flipping camps and general roaming.
I use axe/warhorn with shortbow on swap for cripple/stun. Longbow for defending towers.
As soon as I saw Quick Glyphs traited with NO glyphs loaded, I was not sold.
