I’m from Piken and to be honest our PPT is rubbish but the enemy flat out refuses to fight us and when they do they wipe 9/10 times, i’m struggling to understand why they are so bad at this part of the game (not an insult, just an observation).
We don’t PPT much but we PPT enough to keep our place, but honestly EVERY server we fight can’t fight back or just runs, it’s not fun anymore, what happened to all these servers ?.
So i have my Guardian at 80 with the Elite Specialisation, i play mostly WvW i get Proofs of Heroics and turned them into hero points (can turn them into siege but meh not worth it) now i have 50+ unspent hero point on my guardian that can’t use them, can i convert them or use them for something else ?.
Unfotunetly this won’t work coz the WvW community has never played the game the way Anet wants us to, so forthem to expect us to suddenly play itl ike that is a little naive.
So i just came on this morning and noticed in the patch notes that the Waypoints have been moved from the southern towers to the East and West keeps but are not usuable by the defending team.
When we asked for keep waypoints we meant for them to be usable by both teams depending on who upgraded it, it would also be nice if the waypoint icon and the waypoint itself were not visible on the map or in the world until the final upgrade completes.
The removal of automated upgrades on towers and keeps would be while keeping auto upgrades on camps, this would also bring back the home BL defenders and the little community they had as most of the day home BL’s are empty.
If Anet could do this it would go a really long way to repopulate the borders and encourage more border hoping throughout the day.
Yeah Anet wether it be through intention, ignorance or jsut being out of touch with the entire community have effectively killed WvW, it’s a walking dead man wating forthe final few neurons to fizzle out and die.
- Describe a typical hour for you in the Alpine Borderlands in the past. For example, What size of group were you running in? What kind of tasks did you run? What activities did you do?
Groups varied throughout the day from 5 man defending to 20-30 but it was always the usual suspects plus a few people waiting for EB queue to pop, had alot of fun running aroudn defending camps, renewing/refreshing siege, monitoring upgrades and escorting dollies. Always seomthing to do and always someoen to talk to.
- Compare your experience described above with a typical hour spent in Eternal Battlegrounds, if you went there at all. Does your style of play change between the 2 maps?
Mostly large group fighting with a little bit of roaming as EB was more of a blobby map that that blob fight focused, EB doesn’t feel liek it’s changed to much.
- Compare your experiences described above with an hour spent in the new borderlands.
Empty, souless and nothing to do. The usual defneders/roamers litterly have nothing to do as we can never reach the lower part of the map in time, towers are too easy to defend and it’s 20% of the old alpine borders in regards to fun. The border regulars are all but gone and no community is left as a result. Auto upgrades and camps have made essentially made them ap play itself so we’re just here to look at the shiny new map.
- Describe the nature of combat in the borderlands in the past. How have the new borderlands impacted this paradigm for you? What style or build changes might it cause? For example, knocking people off cliffs or into lava might play a more important role.
Very varied, could be dueling, small group fighting to clutch blob defense of the keep with epic battles in garriso nthat could last 5 hours or more, as far as shinanigans go it doesn’t seem to have changed with regards to using terrain, people have thesense to avoid the new map mechanics if owned by another server, Group/blob combat is hard to find unless you force a fight ober an objective and they never come out to fight so we just get bored and leave.
- In your experience, compare the time it takes take a structure or objective here, then it did in the past.
New structers upgrade EXTREMELY fast compared to the old borders where it would take the best part of a whole morning or afternoon to upgrade them to T3 which we all enjoyed nursing to adulthood to see it succesfully defended at prime time.
- How is the loot and wxp for you compared to in the past? Will it be able to sustain whatever you are doing? Did it take a hit, or was it improved? If you are planning to unlock an elite specialization, do you think you were helped or hurt in these regards? Do you think you could pursue any other in-game goals just by playing WvW?
Honestly didn’t feel any different in terms of loot drops.

I can’t play Desert borders for more than 30 minutes before i’m bored, guild raids on desert borders are over fast or we go to EB ifthere’s space.

Bring back the old upgrade system, camps and remove the tower WP and move them to Fire/Air keep. Remove the shine effects.

They won’t as they would be bored very quickly with very little to do or people to talk to.

They simply don’t work, reinforced the blob meta by driving people to EB or driving them from WvW entirely.

Eternal Borderlands – I don’t like playing dead maps.
Kinda of agree it’s funny how Anet can’t Balance 9 classes while a company like Riot can balance over 120 characters on a bi-weekly basis in League of Legends including all the items used in the game.
Not gonna lie but WvW is not a complex gametype and most certainly isn’t hard to fix if you actually pay attention to your community and put the effort in, funny how most other games can achieve a considerably better balance than this company.
Ele scepter dragon tooth used to do this and to be honest it was a bad thing, as an Ele player myself it was a game breaker.
This rev skill sounds very similar and hopefulyl will be fixed/tweaked in the future. most people are ok with large random hitting AOE such as meteor shower coz there’s no garuntee it’ll hitthe siege in the first place and has a long cooldown, dragons tooth on the other hand was spammable and targeted.
Bring back auto upgrades but change the old costs to badges of honor, then we can actually spend the WvW currency and be given a choice to upgrade a position or spend it on siege, or both but more carefully.
If it has no cost it has no value.
As I’ve posted many times, Guilds should not be prioritized in WvW, period! Worlds need to be a cohesive military force. Buffs need to be available to every soldier of a World because they all matter equally. Not gating buffs to social cliques, especially to only the largest large social cliques at that.
The entire design concept of gating WvW buffs to guilds is a complete failure….
I have to agree that gating potentially critical functions to social cliques is quite a problem.
On many levels i agree with this point but on the other hand i do disagree strongly on one point, it removes the comradship within the community between guilds and pugs, both should be able to rely on one another and taking this off guilds would insulate them from the community entirely, you’d then see no reason for them to get involved outside of GvG’s assuming they exist anymore.
The problem is the combination of changes.
Making guild upgrades almost impossible to get ties in with making attacking objectives behind automaitc upgrades that much harder, with the smaller guilds who were vital to havoc squads of 5-10 players now have no option to help, ScS a guild on my server has been reduced to camping the southern camps on our border and just fighting there until they get outnumbered. That’s pretty much all they have and ScS have done everything they can to make it viable and are falling short, not through thier fault as they are dumping a huge amount of mats, time and money between them into these guild upgrades etc but it won’t be sustainable for other silimilar guilds as these guys are super rich and enjoy thier PvE whilst other WvW guilds feel they are forced to abandon WvW to achieve anything IN WvW which absolutely kitten about face.
To those who are saying we need to grow up and be patient.
3 years we’ve been patient 3 god kitten years and continue to ignore the entire community.
Delete EOTM and all three borderslands will become populated in each match up, they might even become involved in the match up while grinding levels and karma.
Besides the quite negative attitude towards anet I think one of the biggest factors is time.
1- They’ve had 3 years to address all the WvW concerns
2- Yes the majority of the WvW community is negative for a very good reason, see above.
Not a single person on my server (Piken Square) is even remotely intrested in the Desert Borderlands maps, the moment someone suggests we move from EB to a DB it’s just a collective groan followed by chuckles.
You get the odd commander trying to make something of it but 30 minutes later they just give up and requeue for EB because of how tedious traversing the map, the silly PvE mechanics and the complete lack of involvement in upgrades and upkeep of the keeps which we had scouts for, who by the way have all just disappeared.
If your aim was to make the desert borderlands a baron and unpopulated wasteland like a desert is in real life then you succeeded, if your intention was to bring about diversity then you failed so hilariously it’s untrue.

To add to this, they should also give you the option to chose which rank you’re displaying. For this, it’s not really about the visual clutter as much as giving the players/commanders a potential way to mitigate some of the snipping and appealing to personal tastes in titles.
support this. My boyfriend won’t play his guardian in WvW at all anymore since he hit platinum, and that was one of his favorite classes. He doesn’t even command, except to rarely lead smaller groups, but if he plays as a platinum guardian, he’ll just get driver sniped all day.
I know that feel myself but i try and look at the funny side, if i get pulled and snipped coz i’m on a big dopy norn guardian with Gold rank then that’s my comm safe to carry on farming the enemy, and i’ll usually get picked by blob coz you know, good guy blobs.
I’m also used a bomb refrence point “BOMB ON GROMITS CORPSE”.
I believe most of the core issues have been addressed by the new map, but haven’t been solved completely:
None of the issues were solved and a tonne more were added, the only reason blobbing isn’t happening is coz no one wants to travel around a borderland anymore, it’s bloody tedious and people die enroute all the time, this in turn creates a negative enviroment which effects everyone and more and more people log off alot sooner than they usually would be out of boredom or sheer frustration and this all long before they even see an enemy.
As per usual Anet have created far more problems than they have solved/addressed and as for blobbing on EB i don’t see any change and that border is the only populated border.
As for defending why should we defend, no time, energy or gold went into upgrading anything so no one cares if it flips, especially at night coz come morning everything on everyborder is T3 again with zero input.
I’ve seen that laser event mechanic used once and that was by my guild coz we were bored and our guild leader was fed up with us all complaining we were bored. i’ve not seen anyone else do it.
Everything on these new borderlands has sucked every ounce of fun out of this game, unless you’re on EB in primtime you have nothing to do coz everything is pointless and holds zero value.

From whati hear you simply cannot get away from them coz of slows, repeatable blinks due to ability reset and god knows what else they got given. I’ve heard nothing but complaints from every roamer i know about them, basically if you’re not a mesmer you’re pretty much dead as i’ve witnessed one of these chonomancers kill 3 people with relative ease.
But hopefully it’ll get a nerf…………………..in about 18 months which will be 12 months too late coz WvW will be dead anyway.

I’ve heard nothing but bad things unless you’re one of the top 3 blob servers that face each other every week, you’re not going to get any real action outside of EB.
Primetime is a smaller window than before to have fun, outsideo fthat it’s a massive ballache to get anything done offensively.
The new specilisations don’t really seem WvW viable in a practicle sense for guild raids so i’m not really concerned, i don’t play PvE so the new maps mean nothing to me and i don’t really care about living story/lore.
I’ve always played the competetive parts of games.
20 pound is still too much for what i would be getting out of the game so i’ll wait untill it drops to 10 pounds before i’m tempted. Oh and i’d remove that link if i were you and replace it with “any good rkey site” before you get a warning.

Just because i don’t own HoTs I am unable to pruchase “Shield Generators” in WvW or use them. As i only play WvW I’m not paying 30+ pounds to use 1 siege item.
This is the tip of the pay2win wedge that will break WvW ladies and gentlemen.
The multi tier nature of these maps makes it extremely difficult to navigate, the map is too large to find groups and most people who are raiding be it in a guild or just pugging will die a few times due to the terrain, i fore one did not enjoy having to go all the accross the map afteri died to falling coz an updraft vent didn’t want to cooperate, i then got ganked so i think i spent about 10 minutes or morew trying to get back to my guild raid, several others got fed up and left before me so i can see alot of guilds just not bothering anymore.
Not heard one good thing about the maps apart from they are pretty, it’s reinforcing the stand offs at chokes which were becoming boring on the old maps already what with the pirate ship meta and all.
I honestly don’t think WvW is gonna bounce back beyond the 4 largest populated severs, even low gold will be become a ghost town outside of the 2 hour primtime. Only worth while place going is EB now as there’s not much point trying to hold points in borderlands.
And it’s a shame coz the maps on paper are a really nice idea, just too kitten big and a pain in the kitten to navigate, not “harder” just bloody awkward when they don’t need to be.

We’ve heard all this before and we’re not falling for it again. We suggest one thing and you always do the exact opposite and make the situation worse EVERY TIME.
If Anet said they are looking into it and it’s thier #1 priority right now we can expect an update on that “looking into it” in 3 months, a vague implication of what aspect they might address in 6 months and then a long wait to 18 months where nothing is done while they discus assanine features in the game with thier local kiss butts on tweeter whilethey pat themselves on the back ofr a job well done that no one outside of high management congratulated them for.
I loved WvW but it was never great, just better than any other RvR based game. The continual lack of balancing and out right dismissal of the entire communities feedback has pretty much made me quit this game and move to Wildstar, atleast the PvE is genuinely challenging and the PvP is actual fun instead of of having to put up with pirate ship meta or cheese condi roaming builds. Gladi didn’t buy hots to be honest coz peopel will be bored of it all very quickly.
The money made from HoTs certainly won’t be put into WvW, as far they are concerned the job is done and i’ll put money on the WvW team being more or less disbanded or just a few left while others are reassigned to make more stuff in PvE that no one asked for.

-Honestly I think this is the death of WvW as any server below position 3 will have almost nothing to do.
-Guild raids won’t even exist because it’ll be to hard to find anyone or get to a pre agreed point before half the raid gets bored and logs off.
-I’ll speculate and say that 30-40% of the guilds will disapear into the guild halls for GvG’s and the new guilds that come in to WvW will get bored quickly and leave.
-Omni blobbing will be the new thing as roamers now have nothing to do except look for other roamers, scouts are redundant and defending is pointless if no work is put into upgrades.
I sometimes wonder if all this was intentional on some level, to make it so tedious and awkward that WvW dies and they don’t have to keep it running anymore, they’ll eventually shut the WvW server down or atleast cut the numbers of servers at best. They are then free to concentrate on more monitisation and the pro1337360nosc0p3 eSports that they are 18 months to late to promote. coz lets be honest no one watches guild wars 2 eSports except those that actually play it.
It’s a shame coz i do give Anet props for what are really nice looking maps and intresting mechanics, except the automation of upgrades and removal of WP’s, But it seems apparent that to me that 90% ofthe dev team were stocked to put all this into action before asking themselves the motivation of these changes from the higher ups who have on numerous occasions utterly dismissed the WvW community and even gone so far as to insult us.
R.I.P WvW and it’s a shame coz it is/was the only worth while Realm versus Realm game out there with the combat to make fun, other RvR games are just meh.
It’s not a question of WvW being harder, harder is the wrong word to use as it’s jsut going to be bloody awkward and tiresome.

Question in the title, is it worth it as i’ve just come back from a month long break of Guild Wars 2. Seems like a dead gametype now with the occasional bit of activity in the evening.
Having only played D/D ele for a very short time (less than a week) in roaming solo/party i have come to the conclusion that D/D is very strong when played with alot of patience and care when switching attunements and once you get certain rotations down to an instinctual level it’s very fun to play.
I’m intrested to see where this discussion goes in terms of valid nerfs and not NERF IT PLOX I R BADZ so i can better see where it’s strengths lie, so far the general consesus seems to be either burning stacks or might stacks and thankfully not both at the same time as removing/nerfing both would render Ele useless.
Glad to finally find a proffesion section not filled up totally with whiney crap.
Can’t wait to play D/D ele on HoTs WvW maps.

So this is happening more and more often these days almost 1 in 4 fights results in the enemy logging out at low hp or in downed state. I’m sorry but this is unsportsman like and quite frankly pathetic behaviour.
I won’t name and shame the servers coz you already know who you are or have seen your buddies do it.
Please put in a mechanism that stops the enemies character from disappearing if it’s mid fight in WvW/PvP so we get the reward for beating him/her regardless of wether not he logs out.
Seriously people just stop being mad and admit you got beaten, you’re not 12 years old and most of you are “adults” start acting like it.

err don’t know what builds you’re all running but these camps are easy to solo if you done fully upgraded camps in the current game.
Just pull em, stack em and slap em.
Well for starters you can forget about the two top tiers in NA and EU as transfers are locked coz the top 6 servers are marked as full.
High silver has aweful blobs in it lead by idiots that even i can out maneuver as a commander and trust me when i say that i utterly suck at commanding, although these server do have good roamers.
Mid/low silver has alot more group based fighting and some fairly decent roamers.
Bronze just forget it they are all dead servers.
Don’t forget that whatever server you are on has no bearingon sPvP so you can join any team from any server.
LOL! When I worked in applications hosting the “simple” solution was ALWAYS to throw more hardware at the problem. That doesn’t fix the software though :p
In many cases you’re right but i’m pretty certain we can assume they run it on bare minimum specs, with ample hardware they can atleast remove that variable instead of trying put a bandaid on multiple variables.
this is the big problem as we don’t even know the specs of thier servers, as someoen who has managed first person shooter server clients and dedi boxes i am very aware that if you put too many instances of a client onto one box you will see a huge impact in lag, remove that variable and then you can look into things like tick rate in the client software itslf etc.
But i doubt Anet have the common sense to eliminate the variables that are so easily eliminated.
Bottom line is Anet is cheap and under NCSoft we know they have the resources capable of fixing this.
Personally i think everyone should be removed from thier server when hots comes out, when youl oad up the game for the first time after the release of hots and go into wvw that is the point you pick your server to rep. it should not even be a choice if you are only a pve player or atleast a player who will never play wvw.
This way a server will become full then people will have to choose another that they can get into, that one then becomes full and so on and so on meaning a much better spread of players, yes it’s going to stop some from being with friends or guildies etc but it’s the only true way to fix this uber server bullcrap from server like FSP and SFR. when all the server have an even player count you’ll see much better match ups.
You could also rename all the server so people don’t spam SFR or FSP coz they are under the delusion that’swhere all the good players go. with no idea wether the newly named server is good or not you would achieve and even more random/even distribution of players both good and bad across all the newly named servers.
What roaming class has the best condition removal?.
by condition removal I mean being able to continually remove applied and reapplied conditions from roaming specs that can spam conditions on you faster than most classes can clear and also clear a large amount of conditions at once. With the current strong condi meta dominating right now I feel I need to adapt to it by changing to a class that can laugh at condition builds.
Helpful advice would be appreciated and would rather the condi whiners not chime in on this one with the usual discussion.
Simple fix
1- Purchase a dedibox with more than 4 cores.
2- Purchase a dedibox with linux running the client not windows.
3- Purchase a dedibox with more than the bare minimum of Memory.
4- Place each borderland on it’s own physical server blade.
Basically stop being bloody cheap because anyone with a decent job can afford an 8 core cpu server with 32gb memory running on linux which any server admin will tell you is just better and more efficient than windows based servers.
No doubt you’re running on outdated servers and resource managment for them is shoddy and lazy, no doubt you squeeze as many borderlands onto one physical server as you possibly can until it reaches the absolute breaking point.
You have more than enough money to update your quiet frankly woefully inadequate system while still maintaining the profit your overlords so desperately need.
Grow some balls and push for better hardware you weak little man.
1-You can’t avoid condition damage but you can avoid power damage. Condition damage can be mitigated by very few abilties and it’s immediately reapplied once cleared.
2-You can tank a power build with toughness and perma protection but you can’t tank a condi build with vitality, toughness or protection with the incredible condition damage tick.
Seems fair to me……………….
