I’ve shared it before and happily do it again: Turning off my modems internal router (through its setup ui) back in January removed all the lag I had been experiencing for a long time before that. Not one day of lag since then. It was shrugged of as a individual fix for my modem, but i’m certain there’s more to it since Internet in other aspects works just fine with the router turned on.
Like someone else has written earlier it seem more related to packets sent from ANETs servers than the packets us players send to them. Under “normal” lag situations I reckon we should see the affected player characters walking into walls etc. but that isn’t the case since A. we don’t see that happening and B. actions by the lagged are executed just fine on everyone elses screen around them. Then the lagged stand idling in despair until disconnected.
I’d like to see a resolute fix and explanation as much as the next guy, but until then I’d give my suggestion a try. Ask a more techsavvy person to help out if you can’t yourself. The router could also be replaced by an external device if need be, I haven’t.
Problem imo is that the PVP player base is so small that you need to play in a 2 hour prime time window to get sort of decent solo matchmaking. At least in EU. Off hours sucks so bad if you’re put in the wrong team.
But the chef is still active, seen him in LA.
Did you have those problems constantly, or would you have periods of say… 4 weeks frequent lag spikes, 5 weeks perfectly fine, 4 days lag spikes, 6 days fine etc? Seemingly random but long periods with either consistent latency or latency spikes.
Some days were worse than others, like it followed the flow of the amount of players. Overall I had those minute long time-outs almost every day from November to January when I turned router mode off.
I’m guessing the router traveled through a choke point while it doesn’t in bridge mode (native IP address or w/e). Worth a try since it’s easy to change on or off through the modems interface if you have similar hardware.
I used to have “all the above” problems during primetime for months. Then I googled my cable modem, Netgear CG3700, and found out that its internal router is unreliable and could cause problems in specifically online games. People recommended to disable the router, run the modem as a bridge only and buy an extended router if there is a need for one.
Since that day I turned off the router mode, I have had no lag outside the “normal” WvW zerg friday reset that everyone gets. I’m no network engineer and don’t know why only GW2 was affected by this, but it would explain why VPNs can reduce the lag for those with otherwise stable connections.
Any news? Just kidding, only reliable thing is the lag. Arrived a bit early today, but I guess we can blame Sunday for that.
Holy moly, looks like NCsoft & Co. have some serious internal management issues.
There was a similiar matter Telia had with Youtube in 2013 where that service was very slow but using a VPN eliminated all problems. In that case Telia blamed Google for leading certain ranges of IP-addresses into a choke point instead of unused paths with huge bandwidth they had available. AFAIK both companies were required to fix the problem. The throttle theory is BS.
I’m not able to log-in without WTFast atm, but with it, everything’s working just fine. Why is a 3rd party program instantly fixing what ANET’s been clueless about for months?
Omg, gz! You so lucky please.
I like the new dailies. No pressure to do more than three is great, but I usually do PvP and WvW daily now too, cause the reward is ok for the effort required.
Yep, even the soundtrack is eventually bound for a rehash.
So yeah, its not my ISP fault, its something from Anet servers and/or connection with those servers. And its getting worse every day past 2 months.
//
As a workaround, you can try to find a VPN to reroute your traffic around whichever route is causing the problems. VPNs are not free however. Some other players have had success using a free trial of WTFast.
//I couldn’t even log in right now, so finally got around to try WTFast. Installed and back in game without lag. Thanks for the tip!
Could you please tell me the WTFast server you’re using which fixed the problem for you? Can’t find one to bypass the problem…
I don’t do anything special. Log in on trial, made a custom game to gw2.exe, click play, wtfast stalls after connecting because of gw2’s launcher/login so I start the game normally with wtfast in the background. After a IP change confirmation mail from Anet I’m back in the game.
But I don’t consider this a long term solution because I’m not gonna pay half the subscription of a AAA MMO just to make my otherwise perfectly fine connection work with this game because it lacks support for this issue we’re having.
This is totally on NCsofts end. There is no build-up to the lag, yesterday everything was fine while I did a world boss. Then minutes later I was gonna switch map for the triple worm boss, took ages to load the map, after that I had the dreaded time-out lag and after the disconnect I couldn’t log in again without WTFast enabled.
So yeah, its not my ISP fault, its something from Anet servers and/or connection with those servers. And its getting worse every day past 2 months.

Hm, account info is stored in that file, hope nobody is foolish enough to send you theirs. I delete it every time Guild Wars 2 is updated to start fresh. A new Local.dat is created automatically once the launcher screen is loaded. If yours doesn’t you could always try starting gw2.exe with the -repair command.
Yes, me and others I play with has had this bug happen for a few weeks at least. Out of the blue, all chat but guilds stop displaying, both for incoming and outgoing messaging and a relog is required to get it back.
Is 3.5 GHz as high as you can overclock? Else I’d try to push it to 3.9-4.0 GHz. MMOs and high clock frequency go hand in hand with all that information needed to be calculated by the CPU.
If you want to replace one part my pick would be to a nvidia graphics card. If you can afford it, then GTX 970 has excellent performance for its price.
Weird how the people above have the same connection problems that I had yesterday, but today I could play all over Tyria without lag. RNG?

Maybe they have to do a fundraiser to replace the broken server or whatever is causing the lolish lag.. 4 minute(!) response time on actions while guildchat goes on as normal….
Any closer to finding a solution??????? Unplayable @ evenings.

Just an update, still lagging like hell and DC every 5 minutes at primetime ~19:00 GMT+1.
Items bought with karma/WvW badges can’t be sold or salvaged, only Mystic Forged. Then there’s inventory bags that make the content invisible on the vendor list, but I doubt that was the reason for your initial question.
Please stop spreading these kinda rumors that only add to the confusion. I’ve currently been on a .68 and a .122 server and both where equally laggy as their other servers. It seem to be related to prime time, so probably an overloaded switch somewhere, like the last time it happened to this game.

Brief description of what you’re seeing: Lag, disconnects and occasionally can’t log in, like right now (18:44 GMT +1). Lag seem to shift depending on which server I’m assigned to, while the disconnects happens anywhere.
Yes, so the ticket next to the weapons mean nothing according to the German GM:
I got you some answers to this drawing together.
Question: Are winners per world, per region, per data center or Selected globally?
Answer: Winners will be selected globally. This is only true for Europe and North America. China does not participate in the raffle.
Question: The most desirable skins are so globally only 100 times available?
Answer: That is correct.
Question: Is it possible for an account to win more than once?
Answer: This is possible. It is minimal, but present.
Question: Increase submitted more candy wrappers profit Change?
If the opportunity for profits character or account based?
Answer: More candy wrappers give a higher chance of winning. The system works account wide and is not restricted.
Question: How will players receive their winnings?
Answer: The winners will be randomly selected.
The first drawn by lot by the system players will receive Greatsword skins. The next 100 Shield Skins – and so on.
The prizes will be sent via in-game mail.
Question: Can players pick and choose what you win?
Answer: no.
Question: Is there a system in which players come first preferred are (first come first serve)?
Answer: no. The system lost the winners and shipped according to the prices. Players have no influence and can not mutually grab those profits.
Question: Will the gains be traded in the trading post?
Answer: Yes. Should you win a weapon with which you can not do anything, you have the chance to sell them.
Smart choice.
Looks more like B, and I anticipate a massive flood of QQ from various technical issues when everyone who returned wrappers stand ready at the NPC in 2 weeks to get the valuable skins.
Upcoming Class Balances
Ranger – Too many rangers using Longbow – We are adding a tell of the animation for the Point Blank skill and the projectile has a purple color to distinguish it from autoattacks.
Time will tell if this helps.
But I once saw a GS Mesmer say it knockbacked mobs in zerg settings out of spite because it got zero loot otherwise. So every class has them.
I’ve started collecting the exotic boxes we get from every chest. I soon have a whole stack of 250 with one fossil drop from them. Many Twisters in a jar and scarfs though.
Another thing we’re supposed to grind for months in this “grindless” game for a weaponskin, since the stats are exotic and on top of that useless. Like with Fractals, soon two years without a single weaponskin I wanted. LOL!
What you’re asking for are really basic things, I think most of us are bored of finding fresh variations to wear on our characters. For example my Norn Warrior still have his cultural armor, even reused when going from exotics to ascended. Really sad state when I can’t find anything better after almost two years.
The management seem totally lost of what the players want from their game. Instead of more armors and weapons (that doesn’t look like garbage) they like to spit out pvp finishers and gathering tools. Easier to make I guess when you don’t give a F…
Q: So what is this company’s focus?
A: Tooltips! No matter how old the content gets, it’s never to late to correct and dedicate half an updates notes to them.
At least they’re running out of old stuff to reassemble unless they planning another go at the things they broke O.o
Do you think there’s a connection between the sudden buff to LB Ranger and the new free trial period? xD
Why not try them both, but I’m sure you’re better off with a Ranger when I’m picturing Mr. Magoo here.
Ranger pros vs Necro:
- TAB targeting instead of manually placing AOE on the ground.
- 1500 range for above and piercing arrows.
- A lazy person only need TAB, the #1, shared heal and change pet button for if pet is about to die.
- Ranger got buffed latest patch and I love running around killing stuff with it. If geared for full damage/zerker, a Ranger is in a pretty good place now based on my own observation of having every class at 80 with DPS gear.
- It’s fun to hunt all the pets to the roster while exploring if the game is new to you.
- Much less bugs unlike what the Necro has been dragging along for years.
- Every equivalent to other MMOs gold farmers use a MM Necro here since they’re even more dumbed down to play, but not as fun for an actual player. Also the Necro pets have bugs, bugs and more bugs.
Ranger cons over Necro.
- Less chance of getting light armor when farming.
I think the scaling of Jormag is one of the better. It doesn’t take any longer than before Mega servers and the “champ farmers” keep the mobs from coming after the wall attackers. Win win for everyone IMO.
More than enough people for attacking spikes in P2 for leechers to do their thing too.
Besides the feet one, which I didn’t quite understand (Oh, FEETURE, ohoho.. clever), none of these suggestions would be stuff I’d be unhappy with.
I’m guessing you haven’t opened the hero panel lately. The thing is they broke several things in the latest patch which annoys me every time I play (missing sounds and animations are another) and there aren’t any fixes for them yet despite being easily done if they had an interest.
Most stuff we got in the feature patch wasn’t bad, just lackluster polishing to years old content and things other developers would sneak in regular patches without making such a pointless fuzz about it.
Sailing up as my #1 thing In the next feature patch has to be the returm of the feet, preferably with a whole day of hyping under the title FEETURE!
It’s one of the louder brain farts they’ve released. On one side we have the 99% auto-attack bosses we do every day for the microscopic chance of anything worthy the time invested will drop, which many yet has had the luck of experiencing despite 2 years of playing. Take that Blackwing Lair RNG!
Then we have this snafu which require a guild size effort in an open world, regular leveling map on a population capped server. I remember back pre Mega how everyone guested the most successful server (aka most populated) 45 minutes before the event started just to get in a decent cluster for the chance of completing the LS meta it was involved in. Rewards afaik; still as laughable as the easy bosses.
I’ve done what’s considered “hard” solo play in this game; Liadri and all of SAB. But risking going mental over this pos just for a title I probably wouldn’t use anyway wasn’t my cup of lemon juice.
Classic example of developers not playing their own game.
What’s the obsession over SAB? I hardly ever see anyone using the weapons or titles from that place, so I doubt more than a very few spent enough time in there to be bothered getting them. I personally did though, and it was a mixed experience, one I’m in the end glad I don’t have to go through again.
Doing the new storymode and getting achivements from it and Dry Top, collecting coins etc., had a SAB light feeling to it. If it’s just for the old-school graphics, then this game probably isn’t the right one to be playing.
Bug is still there.
Feet’s too complicated for new players.
But that’s the thing. A mini pet is a skin. It should follow the exact same rules for culling that the surf board on your back that you spent months and months building does. As soon as the culling switches you from the grey being to me seeing your armor and sword, I should see your mini, if you have one. If the culling system decides it’s not ready to show the mini, then you should remain a nameless faceless blob until it’s time.
To many people, the mini is an extension of their character that they want the rest of the world to see, just like the L33t D00dz Sw0rdz!1!1 you acquired. The system shouldn’t give preference to one skin over another.
But the sad part about all this is it’s another stealth change they were hoping not to talk about disguised as new features. If this is intentional, they should be honest and come out and say what they were really hoping to achieve, and if they have no intention of changing it so people that spent money on mini pets are treated with the same respect as people that spend money on keys to get tickets to buy weapon skins, they should allow us to get a full refund on every mini pet or pet pack we bought from the store since the beginning of the game.
You could already turn down the number of high res models before, hiding all that shiny gear I want to impress you with Pets, I guess get the lowest priority atm, personal one included.
The thing is IMO this was just another “feature” nobody asked for. Before, there were only the few avid mini pet fans who had them out. Now everyone can “fire and forget” a pet and in a zerg of 50+ that does take up resources and would look as silly as all the commander tags does now (who also need better options).
There isn’t many alternatives. Remove the checkbox for the pet so it has to be clicked every map like before or put checkboxes with “always show my pet” and/or “show only my pet”.
Hahahahahaha…. before the patch I thought: ’ Great, now everyone’s gonna run with a mini by their side, instead none are shown because of megaserver culling. Priceless!
How hard can it be to at least put in a “show only my pet” checkbox? No rush, but maybe in a future feature pack two years from now?
Delaying the info to patch release won’t change anything, a few minutes in and the spike would hit anyway. The problem is entirely around how ANET choose to develope this game, reinventing the wheel over and over, dusting off old tradeable items instead of bringing in new stuff for i.e. the added achievements.
The logical approach would’ve been that the boss loot etc. we now have to gather were added to the boss together with the patch, preferably with a better than stupidly low drop rate. Make us play the game for it instead of the usual whales buying it and the rest skipping it unless the RNG strikes.
So, of course ANET must be satisfied with the current, user-unfriendly system where someone convert gems, or buy from the hard working gold sellers who have a huge part in this failed virtual economy, for those 2000 gold needed.
Loyalty is a little person who is in a game, they are, for the most parts, not even care about eachother met in real life consisting of a constellation. So yes, to keep a person guild bank for your target price of goods (because most of the rest is soul- or account bound), and left a nerd circle with them, jerk party!
/Sarcasm
Not sure what’s most kittened up in this game, the devs or the players.
I try to unlock my Grandmaster Trait XIII at Lyssa’s Temple for about two weeks. It’s always open. And I could do the other temples just by accident, also Grenth’s Temple was done by me but didn’t get the Trait. This sucks. You should do those unlocking stuff with things I can trigger, not by server time or things other people are involved. Don’t know that they were thinking.
You can complete the traits by doing the defend event and killing the mentioned boss (as in, don’t have to be the full-blown assault event chain).
What else were you gonna do with the karma? Doesn’t sound like you need obsidian shards yet, so your “brother” did the right thing in your situation. Run the AH build with the train in EoTM for loot/gold/karma, you’re probably not worse than the average guardian in dungeons/fractals either until you can afford zerk gear.
Don’t put expensive runes/sigils in karma or WvW gear unless you know you will run with it for a long time, since it can’t be salvaged. For ascended trinkets the best way to get them is fractals for rings, guild missions for earrings and laurels+WvW badges for the amulet.
What? Everything is mindless, repetitive grind in this game. I’m about to log in to do another scheduled (for real, there is a schedule!) chore of nerfed and less (since some bosses we did earlier isn’t worthy to keep track of, according to ANET) Bosses, followed by the daily PvP I can muster. Which involves running to the same spot over and over and die, cause those servers are the most populated ones outside of tournaments.
Depending on how bored I am, I then either do yet another grindy, rewardless Fractal, a bit of WvW to finish another schedule called achievements, which I still have some loose ends on. Or simply log off.
Strangly enough, I find it all more addictive than in other similar games. I’m sure the same goes for most asians.
