It’s supposed to be a constructive feedback
This isn’t only about balance. It’s at least 50% because we can’t save our builds, neither the gear.
I’m r41 atm, playing bunker guard, condi nec, HGH engi and mesmer mostly, and the reason why I don’t play other builds on my class isn’t that there aren’t other builds that are working or could work, but that i don’t want to memorise 20 traits, gear and builds.
For example, there are some non-bunker guard builds that do suprisingly good, but noone plays them, because the stereotype is that guardians are all bunkers, and they don’t want to change their builds each hour/day if the team wants a bunker.
I have to have 2 different engineers just to have 2 different builds I play often, and I’m not the only one, for example as far as i know, Teldo is forced to do the same..
Srsly, who would experiment with builds if it takes almost the same time to set back your skills and gear as to invent a build.
And since experiments usually fail, you have to spend a lot of time restoring your original build for your team. And then after you stop the run, team disbands, you can start to experiment again, then restore again, and this circle goes on, this takes away a lot of time and with it, the chance to invent a new meta, or at least slows down the process a lot.
We don’t have too many skills, nothing like GW1, that’s the other 50% of the reasons, but that’s another story.
This is my opinion, and dear Devs, without offending anyone, having plans isn’t enough if we can’t see progress. I’m sure you have lots of great plans, but things seem to happen too slow. Keep up with the good work btw

These are my three desires for this game.
1. All of WoW’s battleground maps and gametypes. (warsong gulch, alterac valley, etc)
2. Death Match arena for 2v2 and 3v3.
3. No more mandatory traits. Traits that are mandatory should be baseline for the class.
If you want all what is wow.. got an idea.. play wow.

I completely missed this topic!
SOTG will be on Friday, May 31st, at 1PM Pacific.
Confirmed guests will be Jon Sharp (Game Designer) and Evan Lesh (Programmer).
Should have a post up about it over the weekend or early next week along with our confirmed player guests.
Thanks for the reminder!
Ty for the response :P Glad to hear this month won’t be a combo breaker either in the SOTG chain.

1. Heroes’ Ascent! (or if 0 chances, GvG), GvG could work perfetly, like arena teams in some cases, since we can have 5 guilds – and with it, monthly automated GvG tournaments.
2. Separated solo que, or a unrated que.
3. New drops from win reward chests, like tradeable mini Svanir, Ghostly Guild Lord, and other items, so PvP players could get some money from PvP.
4. 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 deathmatch. 5v5 is too much.

Thisis the accurate map. Maybe 20% of Shing Jea is flooded but nothing more, instead got a landbridge to the main continent.
But yeah, on another version the battle isles was shown much farther from Cantha.

So, it’s a mostly accurate map/globe then.
Mine is from a known time. Yours takes liberty to what’s going on out where we can’t see. Ergo, assumptions. Your guess isn’t any better then mine.
Both our sources come from the games. We don’t know what’s happening out there at present or what it actually looks like with any certainty.
That said, it really is an amazing map. The Order of Whispers did some impressive work there. Anet created a fascinating world.
Snooping around I found some of these awesome renders of the globe and the map.

http://i.imgur.com/R40p6.jpgVery cool. Tyria is a biiig place. Definitely more landmass or else a bigger planet as whole then the real world.
Mine is not a guess, it is in the GW2 data. Official enough.

They wanted every race do be everywhere and do everything, they didn’t care if it i lore friendly. That’s all.
Same with charr pirates. I se way too many charr pirates, however 99.99% is loyal to their legion until death, and the ones becoming gladiums don’t often leave their lands either. 1-2 is okay, but as i said, there’s too many, and they work with humanswithout problems, which, a charr without affected by the treaty, wouldn’t do, mostly if they are outlaws.
It’s all about filling every kind of roles and organisations with every race to be balanced.

Actually, you can’t leave a PvP match in GW2. You have to alt F4 out and stay offline until the match ends.
The ones leaving are usually PvE dudes who changed their mind and won’t even come back to PvP.
So.. i think it’s pointless and Gw2 dos a great job at keeping players in the match.

Cantha is farther from the Battle Isles than the distance between the southest point of Elona to Kryta. So more than a continent away from Orr, from where the flood came.
Okay?
I wrote it because you wrote that most of Cantha could be underwater because of the rising of Orr, just because the Battle Isles were flooded and you tought Cantha is so close to those isles that the same happened.. And you are wrong. Very, very wrong.
Okay?

.
Yup. That’s about right.
You have to remember that Cantha did not escape the movement of the world unscathed. What was the Battle Isles in GW1 are likely all underwater now.
Cantha as such being so near to the Battle Isles suffered a similar fate.
Cantha’s (probably) still there, but I’d imagine it’s certainly not a human utopia. A closed off xenophobic dictatorial monarchy is never a good thing.
Unless you’re royalty or blessed to work for such, your quality of life is otherwise zilch.
It’s landmass is in all likelihood considerably less then what it was. Most of Cantha was probably reclaimed by the sea.
They were already living in tight quarters due to overpopulation in the past. It does not bode well for the Canthan empire.
The humans of Tyria are doing considerably better in that light. Maybe we’ll know for sure someday.

Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children.
Yes, if they only play for rewards. It’s okay to play “for fun” and be happy if there are additional rewards. But some people are really playing only if you give them some reward.
You haven’t explained why this is a bad thing. Sounds like merely a preference to me. Can you show that one way is better than the other?
You are under r10 i guess. And hotjoin kings are the worst ones who can’t be called PvP players.
Tournaments give better gear, gives rating and champion titles. You can be a hotjoin r30 and still play like an r5.

As a Charr Main I enjoy going into human areas and reminding them that we burnt their original capitol down.
As a Human I appriciate my furry overlords.
Actually, flame legion did, who enslaved your kind. Now you are huting down the flame legion who achieved you the victory. If you couldn’t take a fort without the Flame for 200 years, how could the charrs took a whole kingdom defended by a wall.
And that burnt down kingdom that lost nearly 70-80% of its population, got its buildings and a part of the wall destroyed, was holding back the whole charr race for 30 years.

I love that how it was okay for the charrs to not move on and take revenge more than 1300 years later, commiting genocide and destroying 2 (and a half) kingdoms, but the humans should move on after 200 years because of.. because of stuff and things.
Charrs don’t honor anything, still hate humans, they only made a treaty after having too many enemies and one of them, the humans, brought them an ancient gift.
Yes, the treaty is good, i agree, but the topic is still about “As a human, do you hate the charr”, not “As a charr, do you like the charr”, and if they couldn’t bring the Searing, Ascalon would still stand.
Humans were the initial aggressors. Humans and charr war… forever. Humans finally offer peace and a really good gift for 1300 years of war. Charr accept, gingerly.
You make me lol. Play some GW1 or don’t come back here. I don’t flood the charr forum with bullkitten, so please, respect this and stop it. Thank you.

Just one thing I wanted to add: the Searing Cauldron was not actually from the Titans. The Titans merely told the Charr about it, and told them to use it. The Searing Cauldrons (plural) are powerful, ancient relics, like Magdaer, Sohothin, and the Lost Scrolls, possibly older than the Human Gods.
Magdaer and Sohothin are Orrian swords, predating the exodus, but not the gods.

I would stab Ventari and burn his tree together with all the peaceloving treehuggers he had gathered on that little island in the middle of nowhere surrounded by jellyfish… Just so we can be sure that Trahearne would have never been born! Sorry Sylvari lovers but you will have to suffer for his crimes.
WAIT!
I would assassinate king Doric while he was traveling to Orr! That way we would all have insanely overpowered mages in GW2.
Doric was living in Orr.
“when the gift of magic led to wars among the mortal races, Doric, who had become the king of Tyria’s united human tribes, journeyed to Arah, as described in Thadeus Lamount’s History of Tyria.”
Just a copy + paste from GW1 Wiki …

My opinion was the same as yours for long. But some weeks ago, I was invited to a 2v2. “Okay, my core team is offline anyways, I go” – and that was just awesome. We spent 2 hours playing 2v2 on different team setups, bunker eles and guards too, and they can be killed, or if not them, then their second man, because guard couldn’t keep them alive for too long.
Personally, I got no problems with conquest, but I’d like to see some other game modes too. I’d like to see a simple deathmatch, idc if it is 2v2 or 5v5.
Devs say they’ve tried it, everyone used up the elite skills at the same time and they had no motivation to be the ones to start the fight.
I don’t want to offend the dev team, but this clearly shows they’ve cared for about 2-3 mins and then moved on.
It would take max 1 hour to find out how to solve these problems. Like put in some random spawning commune points, and if you commune with one, you can use your elite skill, otherwise elites are locked for everyone.
This is just one idea I spent 0.2 seconds to come up with.

Yeah 2vs2…go try shout bunker guardian+full bunker ele team…take all the time you need….
2vs2..lol
Time limit and if you reach that, then more dmg dealt = win.. would get rid of full bunkers
I actually kill gc thieves with burning and retaliation with bunker guardian on the long run if they don’t get away…while still >70% hp jumping around point..same for bunker ele, thieves are probably the easiest class to deal with while playing bunker (Not considering warriors obviously cause they are not really viable as we all know)
A bunker guardian with shaman can own every thief around 1vs1…even flanking strike spammers (Already did it many times) they just can’t land enough dmg to win due to high tough, blocks, invulnerability and so on…same fo phantasm mesmers, you can just outheal mesmer gs autoattack (Considered so powerful) with just your regen…and both thieves and mesmers are going down for condition dmg on the long run having little to no condition removal…
That’s why 1vs1 in just stupid and worthless…if both at a decent skill level bunker spec with retaliation can’t lose vs a gc spec, cond dmg spec can’t lose vs bunker…and gc is going to lose vs both cond dmg and bunkers with 50\50 chance vs another gc…and this is how it works, sure skills matter but 70% is done by your traits…1vs1 proves nothing more than who has the best build for that paticoular fight 90% of the times..and you know you can just go hgh+bunker (Let’s say a shout bunker guardian spamming empower with staff…shall we?) 2vs2 too..have fun trying to beat that..
I would have fun, boonstripping with nec and putting on some condis.
Yep, maybe 1v1 wouldn’t work so well, but 2v2 would for sure. Everything can be countered… 2 guard < 2 necros < 2 mesmers < 2 good thieves < 2 guard
You can tuck in the other professions too to this chain, but i just wanted to show that everything can be beaten, and 2 of the same profession isn’t so good. Mixed teams would have equal chances (mostly).

@BlueSoda: ArenaNet explicitly stated back in 2009 that they want centaurs to be a “black race” – a race that’s enemies through and through. Plus, they were having problems thinking of how to make them work with the armor and underwater content (horses may swim, but you can’t really get them going sideways while submerged and the like).
Largos -1% chance to be playeable. They are newer to the lore than the sylvari, we haven’t even know they exist until GW2 release. And they prefer to hide from the world, live in the water and do skirmishes, not a good material for a playeable rce.
Your argument fails.
Norn, asura, and sylvari were all added just to be playable races. Largos could easily be the same.
They don’t hide from the world, they’re just not common in continental Tyria for now – no different than how asura and norn were uncommon in continental Tyria prior to Eye of the North.
In other words, the Largos now is little different than 3 of the 5 playable races.
You always try to prove me wrong but no sir, you fail.
We know the asura ad norn races for GW1, they were added in EotN to bring us closer tothem, yes, for the purpose of being playeable. We could even witness the birth of the Pale Tree in Gw1, so another connection. If largos would be the same, shouldn’t we know more about them or play a more important part? Or devs would care more about them.
As you say, they were added to be playeable. But largos? Very new race to the lore, very few impact, and yes, they do avoid contact with other races if they can.
Maybe one day we will visit the largos territory, but won’t play them.

And saying they were swayed by the Titans would be like saying a terrorist was being swayed by an arms dealer. They already want to destroy, the dealer(Titans) just gave them the means to do it.
I thought it was no coincidence that the Titans appeared at that time. It did set a lot in motion. Wasn’t Abbadon involved in it?
Abaddon wasinvolved. Idk what areyou trying to bring up but this doesn’t affect Obsidian’s reasons and he is right.

So tired of topics about 5v4… srsly, haven’t been in a 5v4 situation for months, and gw2 does the best job about eliminating this issue, making it impossible to leave the game after match started.

GW2 charrfan newbies only see the whole lore from this post-made charr frendly view, overwriting all we had known in GW1.
GW2 tries to convince everyone that poor charrs lost their lands. With Ascalon, they lost like 1/4 of their lands.
Btw: charr claim Ascalon was their land, but can they prove that? Or was that just a borderline vaste? They want to portray Ascalonians as barbaric evil foes. In Ascalon Catacombs story mode, one of the ghosts is actually peaceful and doesn’t want to harm the players, and starts a conversation with Eir. Then Rytlock goes mad, shouting “DISPATCH HER” before anyone could change his/her mind about charr and Ascalonians.
Even he knows that charrs are wrong and Ascalonians were just defending their homes.
Fear The Crazy [Huns]
a) the charr left no structures in the area’s they were supposed to have lived in before the humans. Nothing.
b) the charr had no structures, except those mode of wood and hides in the area they occupied during Eye of the NorthThese observations support the notion that they lived nomadic rather then that they settled. They were hunters, they wouldn’t have found sufficient prey to hunt if they stayed in one place.
Hey Frans, ever heard of Native Americans? They were nomadic people that followed their food around the plains and build their houses out of hides and sticks… sound familiar yet? Native Americans had defined lands among the tribes and tribes would fight over land. According to your posts however because they do not build structures that stay in one place they have no right to the land. There is barely any record of the Native Americans before 1492 when Columbus arrived in America, so there is little knowledge of how long the Native Americans were in America before the Settlers arrived. The Settlers then took the Native Americans land and built cities in their place. What if the Native Americans band together in 2492 and take back their land? Are they in the wrong or are the Settlers in the wrong?
Native Americans = Charr
Settlers = Humans
America = Ascalon
2492 = 1000 years after the Native Americans began to lose their land.
Native Americans were peaceful for long even after the conquestadors had arrived. Charrs live to wage war on anything they can do just to kill and make a bloodshed.
So if native Americans would kill off 90% of America with nuclear bobmbs, that would be fair and rightful.
And charrs didn’t stop at Ascalon, so if native Americans would go to destroy Europe and Australia, that would be fair and rightful in your opinion.
Your example is just a fail.
Native Americans are very very far from this situation.

Alphard is probably just some pirate that got cought in the cataclysm.. Just south of Arah is a whole bunch of stranded ships, and some pirate ghosts.Nice to know, but if you’re refering to the Norn ghosts, they weren’t pirates, they were explorers. There’s actually a story quest where you cooperate with them.
That’s just one norn and his crew who were caught after Zhaitan brought Orr back to the surface, while tha Armada is before the cataclysm, the gap is 200 years.

2 thieves would die before the time limit Or win.

Im torn on the issue. Id be happy to suspend what i know really happened so they can add in a proper story or lore that we could investigate. Maybe a dungeon. Or a link to the destroyers and dwarves fighting.

A-nets new policy is to avoid any content that would provoke racist depiction of other cultures.
That’s why they made the lore, so all infidel Asian and Arabic based cultures will be irreversibly destroyed by the gods, until there is nothing remained from their culture and only the white race rules Tyria!
Elona → Arabic
Cantha → Asian
Orr → Arabic
Kryta → mostly mediterran, now a mixture of everything
Ascalon → Only kingdom of western “white” style, the first one to be destroyed

The five human gods outcasted and defeated the sixth one, Abaddon, the god of secrets, and imprisoned him in his own domain -> one thousand years later, Charrs were searching for a god to worship, because they tought that’s why the humans defeated them, the Charrs lacked a god -> Abaddon sent the titans to the Charr -> charr began to worship them, then invade Ascalon with the power granted by them -> Adelbern took a defensive stand and reformed south Ascalon, while Rurik, after giving up his offenses, lead refugees to Kryta -> He was killed by the leader of the Stone Summit dwarves along the way -> Refugees established Ascalon settlement in Kryta -> Later the Ascaloian heroes stop the titans -> In another campaign, Guild wars: nightfall, we spanked Abaddon and his followers in his own realm, but when Abaddon was defeated, his powers was to go unleashed, destroying Tyria, but Kormir, the Sunspear leader, was given the power by the other five gods to absorb that power, becoming a new god, taking Abaddon’s place, and becoming a 6th god, worshipped ever since. She took his power, his knowledge, but not his purposes and will.

I wonder why they didn’t bring it over? There seems to have been a good few great features missed from the original idea, one being those elite skills from bosses I hear a lot about.

The problem is that, 30-40% of the playerbase play Gw2 because they’ve played Gw1 and liked that game.
Disappointing them in every way they can is a bad strategy if they want to keep any of their loyal veteran base. 50-60% of them already left.
Ofc they need to expand the player base, but if they decrease it in the other hand it’s not too clever.
I can see that. I think they had the option of delivering the same thing and getting a comparable number of players but instead gambled on appealing to a wider base to increase those players. Right or wrong, I can disassociate myself from what the GW1 game is and what the GW2 game is. I definatlly see why fans of GW1 might have an issue but the decision was made. Maybe it had something to do with other games where only humans are playable. maybe it had something to do with discussions with fans about what they would want from GW2. I do agree though, it could have been an awesome game with just humans but I do appreciate what it actually is.
They never asked us and never told us anything while developing the game.
