Yeah i’d find it hard to make confusion better in pve while not overpowering it in pvp. How else would you fix this ability? I got no clue.
And if Mesmers turns up as one of those hard to balance for both types of gameplay classes cough resto druids then why shouldnt they deserve this treatment? Lets not repeat any previous mistakes.
I can fully agree with your points. If i had written a post about ele’s it would look a lot like yours.
Our burst is there, but it has problems that you outlined. As well as our low auto attack damage. We need it higher to keep the pressure up, as your burst will still not be blowing up anyone from full.
And actually air 1 is used to stack vulnerability. To then unleash our fire combo or use Water 1 with amazing damage boosts. But the base damage on our auto attacks is just still too low. Also you dont need to always hit your fire spells, you can cast them in flame ring to gain Might boosts and Vigor. Oftentimes i use it for this purpose when at range as well, and to drop a Dragon Tooth on the base circle at the same time. Might is delicious.

Its intended. I always thought it was because we dont have a downed, that at least we could stomp others a bit better. But nah there are plenty of classes which can do this with a far shorter cooldown.
You can stealth, and my engi gets a stability/stealth as well as a mist form from the same spell, that can be used seperatly with both having half the cooldown. So like 4x the stomping power as well as a self res lol.
Also mist form trait reduce cooldown is bugged.
Our stomping is not overpowered in the least. But it is by far the coolest. Dont mess with it! Hey and guess what, quickness works too.

I’d like our auto attack damage being increased. As it stands now, i feel like i can chain a few spells as intended of our class (even though its such short range thus very choreographed and easy to see coming) but then my damage just DROPS.
It doesnt feel intuitive either. The fire auto attack does horrible damage because it stacks a Burn instead (what doesnt), and the Water auto attack probably does highest damage of all, which is in turn our healing attune strangely enough. The earth one takes a long time to stack up, which is again counterintuitive with our class (changing attunes often). Air 1 is just..i dont even need to mention it. This is witjh S/D. But i imagine the other weapons have this problem too.
Fix these abilities a little and i think we’ll go a long way. Wouldnt mind some iteration on our comperatively weak traits either.
If you want burst, grab Arcane Wave and Arcane Power instead of those 3 cantrips or signets. Our burst isnt that bad, its just easy to see coming at times, but that our damage goes to practically 0 after we used it. Whereas others can do comparable burst and still do 2k auto attacks crits. In part because they can actually wear Berserker Amulets and rely more on their superior class-given stats and survivability thus retaining enough damage, amplified by far better auto attacks and higher damaging single abilities. Not to mention QUICKNESS.

IIrc a silver chest has like a 50% chance to contain an item that can salvage into a Sliver (sometimes x3 : D )
But usually these things look awesome for your rank as they are hard to get, and people might be despositing them in the locker for an alt. But as it will always be ‘a chance to get a chance to get it’ they’ll be rare.
Insane long cast times on the most fragile class dont help either. Neither does forcing it into melee range to use its highest damaging but also ofcourse slowest abilities. Stupid forums cant edit.
Trying out a different class..i’d say BUFF OUR AUTO ATTACK, OH MY GOD. The difference is so massive.. If eles are forced to spend and waste so many cooldowns to do near-comparable burst and damage to other classes because of their crazy added auto attacking (or even worse, passively through phantasms or whatever), we’d need faaaar better defenses than what we have now. And a way better downed.
Here you have a class with the lowest amount of armor and hp and then dont even give it a real downed so that downing the weakest class means your entire team will easily rally. Ele plays amazingly twitchy as far as GW2 goes, which is why it will always be my favorite class, but it feels punished for it by being forced to both waste and use a lot of cooldowns for tiny effects.
The utility provided to ele’s doesnt make up for the base ‘power’ that other classes get at this point in the game. This is a great example.
Grandmaster arcane trait+ arcane blast (utility slot) + arcane cd trait = 1 sec immobilize every 16 seconds. If earth, otherwise 15 sec cd on current attune.
Engi Rifle 2 + rifle cd trait = 2 second immobilize every 8 seconds.

Yeah this annoyed me. We are already completely cut off from pve, no reason why we need to sit through 2 loading screen just to grab a glory booster from the bank for an alt.
and add a bunch of PvErs to the mist (quick teleport from anywhere to have bank access).
Umm people can already port to Lions Arch and walk 10 feet to get to a bank. It will change nothing except giving us pvpers less waiting and loading screens.

Its not hard to see the real mesmer as much as people like to use it as a defense. That doesnt make you win at all.
What really works is not playing an underpowered class. I made an engi and i do 2k crits by just looking at a mesmer all while having double the hp as before. (ele)
Balance is so out of whack.
What I’m wonderin about glory is the rewards of the chests, I’ve saved up all my glory so far because I simply do not like the rank 1 and rank 10 sets available and to my knowledge you can’t get the better looking gear until the higher ranks, which kind of sucks because I want to look cool.
Basically I’m aiming for the Nightmare and Corrupted PvP set but so far I’ve seen none with it and no info about it, so I assum this must be really high tier gear. So I guess I’m stuck with my glory until then eh?

Just 3v3 would blow my mind and i’d probably spend ages in it happily raging at my enemies and allies.
I dont care much about the other things. Did they not try Capture the Flag internally and decided it didnt feel right for the game? I probably agree with them but ofcourse i have no way to know for sure.
Too many different brackets always brings the danger of diluting the playbase too much. But i certainly wouldnt cry if 2v2 and 5v5 where added. And hotjoin turned into 5v5.
I’d also like some special dyes to be put as a reward for pvp, preferably after matchmaking is properly implemented as a sort of ‘look at my shiny armor, you cant just grind this kitten yo’. And ofcourse the stupid mandatory blue/red colors removed from pvp.

Nerf what you want with thiefs, but they’ll just revert to spamming another ability.
Death blossom, daze, whatever. All extremely easy to perform. I feel that their initiative system itself is a big problem here, as well as counterintuitive to the game. It allows them to just pick the best ability and use it many times or do crazy frontloaded burst, instead of juggling cooldowns and performing that crucial ability at just the right time like most of us.
If you just end up nerfing every overpowered ability as they crop up one by one, it’s going to take a looong time of nerfing.
Also i hate Quickness. On anyone.
You guys are all raving mad. It’s a video game people, chill out. They have always delivered good content. The second someone from anet breathes a single word about an update that wasn’t delivered “on time” everyone loses their kitten like 4 year olds. There is no reason not to put a little glory boost on defending. Unless the intent is to get people to zerg instead of learning their classes in small skirmishes.
Starting to get seriously tired of this. Growing bored of the game already, finally drag myself to play for a bit. Won a tournament after waiting 3×5 minutes in total boredom, and didnt even get a chest. Shook my head and logged off.
This was NOT what i was promised when i bought this game. Getting more discouraged by the day.
Oh yeah i should also mention i had people repeatedly just reviving from a random stomp 100 yards away as i just beat em in a fight at a base. How is this fulfilling gameplay? Why am i punished that my ally lost a fight somewhere off in the distance? its ridiculous, i kill him, but wait hes not dead, first you must endanger your on life to actually kill the person, but oh crap suddenly revives and regains HALF HIS HP. Downed is just askitten in tournaments as anywhere else. They cant balance burst so they put some kitten mechanic in that they cant balance either? Is that the reason? Or did they actually think it would be fun to have this mechanic? Something skilled when you randomly rally, the person that beat you gets blown up because he beat you, and putting knockback bubbles while ressing? The more i think of this game the more i feel that it hardly requires individual skill and that it is plagued with ‘original’ ideas that just end up frustrating, imbalanced, and anticlimactic.

Melee classes can grab a ranged weapon anyway and get higher range than us. We are actually forced into close range more than melee classes! : d Along with the lowest amount of hp and armor and longest cast times. And not even higher damage and on demand burst than other classes.
So on second though, we arent ninjas, ninjas are too awesome.
When grouped or duod with ppl who can stand in front of you or having a pet out that distracts the mobs to attack them I can really just burst away old-school mage style with staff.

for myself, i never mentioned duels, i mentioned tpvp (where they want to focus there balance)
i also agreed that doing that much damage in 2 seconds isnt right…however, 2 things must be maintained…the knowledge of how that damage came to be, and that thieves, even if there burst is nerfed, needs enough burst to be considered the mobility/burst damage focused melee class, because thst what they are supposed to be.
as for the damage, again, i addressed it, backstab even with lots of AP doesnt hit that hard (as in, as hard as people have been saying), it starts hitting that hard when you start damage stacking to insane degrees, and then use assassins signet (150% more damage on next attack)
the problem isnt with backstab itself, the problem is with the ways we can buff that single hit.
Well there where multiple people that use some kind of isolated duel as an argument.
And first off i totally agree with you about stealth and the suggestion in your previous post. This is one of those cases where we really should wait for bugfixes before we mess with stuff. Perhaps a ‘recently stealthed’ debuff so it isnt frustratingly overwhelming when a thief pops absolutely everything.
I never said anything about whát was so ridiculous, just that such frontloaded burst is unfitting for a true pvp game. And that ‘dodge and l2p’ arent really valid arguments to what most of us are saying. Indeed the signet is a major offender and fairly stupidly designed imo, i agree with you there.
I never meant to imply that thiefs are banging-your-head against the wall overpowered, just that the way they deliver their damage is…archaic. We’ve seen it before. Huge burst, woopdydoo. I think thiefs should burst less hard, but also get bursted down less hard as well. I would be all for that.
For instance, that ‘recently stealthed’ debuff might make thiefs more reliant on vitality and toughness! Which would reduce their burst. Perhaps make assasins signet more of a finishing ability, only usable under a certain % of hp, so people have more time to react to a thief that jumps them. That is up to arenanet, im just stating that we should find more a middle road between their dmg and survivability isntead of telling others to ‘l2p’. Wasnt aimed at you specifically.

Learn to play is something everyone uses in defense. but ofcourse that only includes thiefs, mesmers and guardians. It also appears more when the person in question just killed some newbies in 8v8 and still feels a little excited both up- and downstairs.

Luckily most tournament teams are running with either 2 mesmers and 2 guardians plus 1 of the other, huh. I cant even remember a game where the premade team didnt have 1 of both, while i certainly cant say the same for eles, necros and rangers. That is just as valid an observation as the OP playing a Thief and being amazed at its potential when picked up half an hour ago.
But ofcourse your personal experience will wildly differ. I wonder in what unrelated way you will downplay this. Maybe that i have bad eyesight and my eyes need to learn 2 play?

Are some of the things you’ll hear. Cant disagree that the game feels a tad faceroll-ey at the moment though.
With Quickness and perma retal in the game, you whine about 10 stacks of might?
You know it costs an elem 4 spells to do that right?
Also the vigor thing where bugs dude. Elem buffs arent a bug. And the buff upkeep you’re talking about isnt even kitten possible. The only way to get a really long buff is by switching attune then also using the heal glyph, which has a 25 second cooldown. So how the hell are you going to keep all of them up? We can get 1 with a long duration, depending on attune, which is the whole fricking mechanic of the class if you cared to think about it for a second.
100% uptime on three boons, get your facts straight man. Why destroy a valid post like that. Guess i should now put in some ‘bridge’ or ‘trash forum troll’ remarks now. Seriously setting a good example there man, you’re so awesome and witty.

Does a mesmer really need 3 illusion which get one shot? Does a thief really need to summon 2 more thiefs? Do we really need sharks a dozen bloodthirsty sharks with a 500yard aggro? Is a guardian useless if he cant summon multiple magical weapons? Will the game die without summoning frickinging Rock Dogs from GEAR?
How its done is up to arena net, if they even agree at all, discussing nerfs is not done anyway on these forums as people take it way too personally and start insulting. But personally i think that we could reduce the amount of summons on some spells while buffing them, and flat out removing some. I think it would make the game far more enjoyable both to play and to watch.
I like being at the zoo and all, but this game takes the cake.
I’ll take a poo flinging monkey over a horde of illusions and summoned thieves and magical weapons anyday. Seriously, tone it down. I wouldnt say it promotes amazingly skilled or exciting to watch play with all these fire and forget buttons with huge damage or repeated effects flying around. Also getting tired of feeling like Noa’s Arch shipwrecked in front of me with angry, 0 IQ scripts pouring out, blowing kitten up with no thought required. This many braindead stupid minions running around is stupid.
You know, if you guys told me that you’d spent months fixing dungeons, trading post, adding story voices, and getting rid of a million bugs that somehow went unnoticed (yeah right), i wouldnt have bought this game already and i wouldnt have felt ripped off like i do now.
Five weeks so far and not a single patch that was worth the wait for me. Next one is at 10/1, so that makes it six weeks. All we ask for is a blog post even, to give us a little hope that you understand your own game. Most of my friends already quit and so has my brother, the game already wont live up to my expectations anymore, yet i’m still playing but it gets less every day.

I thought he was looking for 3 Mesmers.
Supposedly its bugged on a few traits. Watch how you keep the air element attune ‘boon’ for 5 seconds when you change to earth. This is so that certain element specific traits, like the 10% more dmg while attuned to air, keeps working.
However there are some cases where its bugged. The water trait that gives 20% more dmg when target is vulnerable and in water attune doesnt work when you change elements, for instance. Maybe someone else has more info on this, cant really check it out atm either. Been a while since i read about which ones work and which dont.

Odd, i never felt that arcane power procced it. Thats awesome. Maybe it was changed or i didnt pay enough attention.
Might just have to get it instead of arcane blast. Having tried Storm Glyph a few times i found it subpar for its cooldown but could be worth trying again. Doubt i’d give up arcane wave for it though, so much utility and burst especially when 30 arcane anyway.

I said 1 stack, not 1 second ^^ You need like 8 stacks of bleed to do the same damage as burn i believe.
And if you wanna keep distance from someone, you dont go rolling through them, but away. Obviously you will waste a lot of distance otherwise. Unless you fight keyboard turners.
But yeah it seems good for point holder indeed. Even though i feel dodging is a bit…dodgy…(not intended) when you need to stay in a tiny circle. But that’s what makes it worthwhile to dodge through people so yeah it seems allright enough now for certain roles.

Umm anyway i’d like to know what’s so awesome about this trait other than a 10 second cd heal. I just didnt see it being worth 30 points so far. Cant edit my post.
I just dont really see it in this trait. I mean, playing S/D, what i want are more magic fields, not blast finishers. I have pleeeenty blast finishers. But i only have 1 fire field.
And yeah the churning earth is far weaker than normal, but instant. I believe it applies like 1 stack of bleed and 1 second of cripple? Im sorry but thats nothing.
Also when i dodge i usually dodge away from my enemy. The water one is nice admittedly, but when are you dodging into a group of enemies to aoe blind them? Or to put a massive 1 stack of bleeds? If i was a zerg and this elem was wasting all his endurance doging into me, id know what to do.
I grab the other grandmaster trait and use arcane wave. Its tooltip is actually for arcane blast, you get twice the effect (save for earth) when you use arcane wave. Its a SIX second aoe chill that gives you 3 stacks of might and is amazing for killing stealthed mesmers and thiefs.
arcane blast 3 sec – arcane wave 6 sec – dagger 4 7sec duration 2 sec chill – arcane blast back up, 3 sec. Thats some sickkitten chilling. Uncatchable and wonderfull group might buffs, able to go fire and spread aoe burns all over a base point as well, along with like 9 aoe might.

When it happened i got this extra bonus at the end for gaining the highest possible score. Didnt think much of it, just surprised me a little. I never take treb so that wasnt it either.
My advice is to go Mist Form stomping ; D Perhaps just three cantrips all the way. tele – churning earth to get kills, mist form, armor of earth for stomping.
I dont think it was a massive zerg game either, but more small skirmishes around the map. That actually makes it a lot less likely to get focused to hell and back and gives an elem a much safer time to stomp. So you gotta be kinda lucky in that regard.
At any rate, it doesnt really say anything to be honest. There isnt really a ‘point’ to make.

How about instead of punishing people for leaving (which arena net seems to be against, personally i am not) we give
- a base amount of glory for finishing the game and not leaving. Independent of winning or losing
- a base amount of glory for winning. Just so that a player that works for objectives gets a worthy boost, as it is now he only gets a 20% boost to whatever little he zerged.
You can substitute glory for rank points in tournaments..although i do feel a lockout when leaving a tournament is fair.
that amazing staff elem or whatever you where talking about didnt take down 4 people. he just trained all his cantrips and ran away from them, pretending to be supporting anyone but himself.
I rarely ever have battles where one class is used far more than others. There’s usually 2 or 3 of one class. As stated, Guardian is the class I see the least. Instead of nerfing classes seen as strong, we should be buffing classes seen as weak. I’d rather not have this game have a ridiculously low power bar. It’s more fun if the classes are all strong rather than all weak.

Except the complaint about few bugged skills, the rest can be intended as the rambling of a few disgruntled players that don’t want to put in the time to make an ele great, both in PvP and PvE , if we talk about potential the ele doesn’t lack anything at all, with efforts you simply obtain greater results than on any other profession, being allowed to dance between 4 different stance is amazing.
It’s not a straighforward profession, so people who are used to WoW frost mage or similar can’t grasp yet the potential of the ele
