. GuildWars2 has it flaws, but CQ requires more teamplay and has a stronger focus on individual skill than Hero’s Ascent ever had.
But conquest revolves around outnumbering people. You arent going to outskill a bunker on your own. You simple bring more people. You want to cap a defended base quickly? Bring more people. I fail to see how a 3v3 takes less teamplay and individual skill than sending a guy to kill somebody already engaged in combat.
At any rate i totally understand why you (arenanet) want to make conquest the best it can be before you divide up the playerbase, even though i think a true arena format would bring a lot of people back at the same time. I do appreciate the explanation and the fact that new modes are at least in development.
Just dont make it an expansion thing, that kitten wouldnt fly, since i as somebody who doesnt quite enjoy conquest do not feel i have gotten the experience or options i was promised, and i refuse to pay upwards of 100+ bucks when there are other games that provide it for free. Get me hooked before the expansion and its a different story, but using it as another pvp player money-grab promise would reflect badly on your true intentions to make a game where pvp’ers are treated with a fair modicum of respect.

That is just a problem with a condition build. A little power isnt really going to change that. I personally wouldnt spread out my stats too much as it would probably just have the opposite effect. Power works really well with high crit and crit dmg, but conditions get stronger from the precision alone, therefore i would focus on that stat if you are so keen on a little more extra direct dmg. You’d also get more bleed stacks before the mob dies with barbed precision and sigil of earth, which helps a little too. I think precision with dagger would be better than power with focus, if your focus is on conditions.
To be fair, it might be a bit too much to ask for a bugfix within a months time.
We did get Gluttony and Soul Reaping fixed, but that took a lot longer than 1 month after posting about them. Only the fact that it seems to work fine in pvp sounds to me like it cant be thát hard to fix, but ofcourse you never know. Def hotfix worthy though.
…I’m gonna go jam my finger in it’s butthole". …
Tried this on my mesmer and had the same results.Hmmm. What game are you playing? Context is a funny thing.
Surprise Proctology: The Game.

To me a necro is more a warlock than a necro. Necromancer implies using corpses. Warlock is more one that uses curses, debuffs. And facetanks damage through lifestealing / high hp pool. A necro would use dead things to kill you, a warlock would outlast you disabling your body’s processes and defenses through curses that benefit the caster at the same time (lifesteal/staff/boon stripping or transfer) . And most current necros play the latter.
Non thieves feel those things are annoying to deal with and hamper the flow and enjoyment of combat, thieves feel those things are still useless in the end in tournaments. Let’s assume thats true.
Then it still seems to me that thieves are a terrible class design wise. Its easy to go defensive about it and spout ‘just dodge, use your aoe, find the real mesmer, get a stunbreaker noob,’ but then you are just defending an annoying, ultimately ineffective class just because you feel personally insulted.
So we should all rip on thieves as much as we can. For they are lame.
We’d be able to spectate better fights than by using spectator mode.
At the moment the solo queue is plagued with players who do not give a flying cat about the match. Yes, I’m talking about the afkers, leavers and the noobs who have no idea what to do. Problems will still remain if a solo queue is introduced, there will still be afkers, leavers and noobs.
Why should they care if Arenanet doesnt, though? Cant blame them for not caring about yet another fight against a premade. Besides even though Gw2 doesnt have a sub, in pve that is, now the amazing pvp part has hotjoin option sliders for gems olol, there are games actually focused on e-sport that are actually free to play without any need to buy a box for 60 bucks. So how many amazing players do you really hope to encounter here anymore, anyway? How many new guys do you think are coming in with that attitude? Leaderboards are a grind, its up to arenanet to foster an environment where people want to actually improve. It must be measurable, it must be meaningful.
And if this was an e-sports game with a healthy playerbase, there would be rating, and you would quickly rise out of the rating pool of ’afker’s, leavers, and noobs’. Just like, you know, every single serious e-sports game since ever?

Its fun with the 15 point fury trait on going DS. You can get a ton of hits in that 5 second window with focus and axe/dagger, right after you’ve stripped 3 boons. If only it also boosted dagger #2 lifesteal, and we had some kitten stability.
Theres some good synergy to be had for a power necro that relies more on weapon damage than utility damage, but admittedly it just isnt enough yet. 400 toughness while channeling thrown in there among our traits, cmon now that’s just a slap in the face. Cant channel while stunned. Some vampiric traits then? Cant siphon health while stunned. Hell you cant even siphon health while in DS. Still a focus definitively goes with a power build, the vuln does nothing for condis. Get Corrupt Boon if you want boonstrip?
Some truth to this but a lot of disparaging hyberbole against power necro too. When the non-noob power necro uses that staff to chill them and teleport right back to them, also chilling them and then cripples them with warhorn locusts, then proceeds to dagger immobilization, warhorn daze, golem charge, dodging past them to fear them into wells so they can “dagger1spam”, then they learn that power necro is also good against non-noobs.
And then you take a random stun cause no stability, or that non-noob simply uses a stunbreak, of which they will most likely have more access to than you do. Lets be honest here, everything about that build is both super obvious and on long cd, so i wouldnt call power necro good against non noobs, as non-noobs generally dont fail to notice big giant circles or run around without stunbreaks / teleports / condition cleansing.
Yeah, its such a meaningful title. Wish i had it, so those 5 solo players in the mists who i farmed to get it would think im cool.
Use them in pvp for 5 minutes and you will see. Also you will have used them 5 more minutes than ArenaNet has.
Now for the first time in 8 months we finally have the chance to show the developers what kind of games we want. Hundreds of people have tried to do so on the forums for ages, but i guess it doesnt count if you dont give them gems while you’re at it.
Now they’ll do bugfixes for a month, gather costum arena information for a month, looking at their trackrecord another 2 months for solo queue, and another 3+ months to make meaningful 3v3 out of useless hotjoin conquest maps, oh and i forgot an actual MMR we can see. Its not like those things are standard in e-sport games. So just sit back and relax, soon we will have the game we already paid 60 bucks for.

WvWvW is as much pvp as MCDonalds is a restaurant. You know, its kinda true, but you dont really say to your date ‘lets go out to a restaurant’ and then take her to McD.

>Ascended Gear
>Grind new set of Gear
Ah a WvW thread. Also thats the weirdest baddest most impossible rotation i’ve ever seen OP, lol wtf.
Im not one to complain too much about bugs or bugfixes, but they just CHANGED the whole blast finisher thing with the spell. It worked fine before, so you’d think that in the process of changing something you actually take it into the game, right? This perticular bug is just stupid.
Yeah man i think if the people who feel they’re ‘pro’ at ele try out a necro, they’ll see it its actually pretty kitten strong. And they’re quite good at chaining CC’s and poisoning, which are pretty fun. As long as you spec bunker ofcourse, glass cannon necro will make your ele feel like a mesmer.
I think the old RTL only tracked your targets positioning at the point of casting. Right now i’d say it continuously tracks the target during the RTL as well. I used it in the clocktower the other day vs somebody that was running down, and it actually tracked the guy all the way, i was pretty flabbergasted. Wouldnt be surprised if abilities like Spectral or Magnetic Grasp got the same treatment.
It HAS maken room for another ‘self stun’ bug though. Im not really sure on what causes it yet as it only happens about once every couple hours, but what happens is that RTL loses its tracking (probably due to immunity/elevation differences during RTL travel time) and you start rubberbanding side to side for the remaining duration. Like the lightning ball is moving out of control while the target tracking system is constantly resetting your position and trying to track the enemy, causing you to dart left and right at superspeed.
I guess when the spell is unable to make a path to its target it simply cant or doesnt cancel the spell immediatly, making you have to ‘ride’ out its duration. Ba dum tssh. It would make sense as i remember one instance of this bug being versus a Guardian at the Clocktower. I cant really remember but theres a good chance he got lucky and casted a knockback bubble right as i did RTL, making it impossible to make a valid path to the enemy and thus i started to rubberband to the sides until RTL duration was over.
It’s actually a longer ‘stun’ than the previous bug, but luckily it doesnt happen nearly as often and the fact that RTL works tons better 99% of the time makes it all worth it. My ele feels much smoother and awesomer, i can get away with being glassy a lot more now, especially in the 5v5’s. There’s still a bug though.
(edited by GankSinatra.2653)
5v5, pwr/precision/vit amulet with berserkers jewel, runes of rage, double dagger, so kittening worth it.
Been playing a while since the patch and i havent gotten this once yet. When this bug usually plagued me a lot before. But ofcourse now i jinxed it and i’ll get it starting today. Fix!
Has Arena even acknowledged this yet? We’ve lost several paids because of it…
yeah they have theres a merged thread somewhere. Just gotta wait for the fix, again.
the fundamental flaw with thieves and why you can’t compare them to games like LoL is thief takes ZERO skill to put out massive damage. In games that are actually e-sports that balance around that, it takes high level skill to play the class at a high level (shocker) thus leaving casuals balanced since they can’t do the same thing the pros are doing. In GW2 it’s like push 3 buttons and insta-gib anyone that doesn’t have defensive CDs up. it’s dumb.
Why you cant compare them is because a game like Lol has an entire early game which directly affects how strong the ‘Thief’ will be. A carry doesnt start out being at full power, he starts out super weak and then earns his late game ownage by playing well. This isnt in GW2. It takes 5 minutes to make a thief at full strength, and you cannot counter OP heros by making their life hell early game.
A carry earns the right to press buttons and blow up people.
A thief just presses buttons and blows up people.
Monthly pvp achievement is a joke, really you can do it in 1 day without problem.
This. 1000 rank points in 1 month? Thats three games. It takes 45000 to go from 40 to 41 so at that rate it’d take like 40 years to reach 50. Seriously undertuned lol.
Agreed OP, i’m very happy with this patch as well! I’m having no problems with RTL or MG myself, they dont bug out like they did before but maybe you guys are talking about something else.
I would like to suggest sorting the Hotjoin Menu so the 8v8 and 5v5 servers are sorted per 10. This would allow people to see there are 5v5 matches as well without having to scroll at all. I dont know what could be done about the leaving problem, but i think just sorting them differently will at least get more new people coming in. I’ve been playing various classes lately and i saw multiple things in the patchnotes that i asked for on the forums. Some changes might hurt now, i play an ele too so i know, but it was needed. Great job arena net, i’ve got motivation to try and hit R50 now which i really didnt expect.
1v1 with matchmaking would be the best way for players to get better, and developers to balance the game. Developers could gather basic statistics such as win/loss ratios between 1v1 profession fights, but also much deeper stats such as which abilities were the most used and how much they contributed to total damage, making it a lot easier to cross-balance.
That doesnt really make sense. Certain abilities do damage in aoe, or provide healing or buffs in aoe. The stats would be totally screwed up if people start playing in bigger formats if you balance around 1v1. Balancing around bigger formats also keeps the classes different as it allows you to give them clear weaknesses and strengths which would probably suck in a 1v1 game. (example: bunker vs bunker argument above). Not to mention combo fields, we’ll probably see these used to much greater effect in competitive deathmatches and the whole system is obviously also balanced around teamfights.

I’ve been playing 5v5 hotjoin for a while, and it has blown me away. It’s allowed me to build my elementalist a little more glassy and its just unbelievably fun with all these duels and 2v2+3v3’s. The latest bugfixes and various range/velocity increases make my chars play and feel much smoother. I want to commend you guys for listening and putting in these 5v5’s and even though my ele got some hefty nerfs i’m still very happy with the patch overall.
I imagine these kind of fun matches in rapid succession, where positioning matters more because we arent forced to dance around a sombrero for points, with matchmaking and no leavers long before the match is decided, and i see this game being a crapton of fun indeed.
(edited by GankSinatra.2653)
did you try “play now”?
lol, did you?
Stealth wont save you in tPVP, it works only against low skilled players.
Yeah. They really shouldnt have put those anti stealth goggles up for purchase from qualifying points.
As a d/d aura build i can easily choose Final Shielding, Vigor on crit, 25 lightning / 25 water traits which can easily add up to 10% more dmg on their own, or 10 earth for an extra armor of earth. All good options, but ofcourse not as good as a 0 cooldown blast finisher on a trait (that had no mention of any blast finishers at all). Its still a good talent if you’ve got +healing imo. Gaining 2 seconds attunement recharge isnt thát much, and the 25 arcane trait is kitten anyway. My ele still performs really well, especially in smaller numbered fights.
Bugs happen, mostly they’re bad but sometimes they work out in your favor, but bugs simply need to be fixed. Hopefully they’ll take a good look at the data of our damage output now and we get some buffs later if they feel its needed.
It’s disappointing because some classes like the necro have a crippling number of bugs, some of them from as early as beta, that have yet to be fixed
At this rate, even with 2 hardworking and extremely dedicated employees, how can I expect the game to ever be balanced when most of my minor traits don’t even work correctly yet or are so bad I’d prefer nothing (Reanimator, Gluttony)?
I am at least happy that one of the trait tree bonuses that formely did nothing has been fixed 2 months in though
You realise that pvp balance designers arent bugfixers, right?
50%? Man that kitten must have been seriously OP. Expected some nerf on BS but i guess they meant the BS rotation.
Amazing bugfix, waited so long for this, appreciate the post as well.
1.3MB/sec dudes, that red bar is FLYING.
Im getting good speed but connection keeps failing so it still takes forever. I am OUTRAGED. MEOW.
(edited by GankSinatra.2653)
What if he said ‘Other Changes’?
slow clap
Not bad, not bad. I’m not sure if the extra tournament tickets we get from the dailies and monthlies will be enough. They also pretty much require no effort at all to complete, maybe you can later increase the things required but also the amount of tickets rewarded, they just feel a little insignificant to me now but its a good step and maybe its fine.
Now give class changes!
I play guardain and mesmer in tpvp. I laugh at thieves.
Alert the presses.
Don’t be a glass cannon, and then complain about dying to another glass cannon. What part of “glass” do people not understand? Get an ounce of toughness on and suddenly your pecs can reflect bullets.
Ok i dont get this. The thieves calling other glass cannons idiots for going glass cannon are always glass cannons themselves. Do you guys have the monopoly on being glass cannon? When you come up to an ele glass cannon, he deserves to lose horribly? Because you are both glass cannons and thus the thief deserves to win? Where does this kitten come from.
Theres a couple classes that are leagues above all other glass cannons yet they keep acting like this is how its supposed to be. Necros and Guardians, ok fine maybe they arent meant to be glass cannons. But 90% of the others are eaten by you and frustrated about the tools that Thiefs are given, and all you guys say is ‘just be a thief we are supposed to be best glass cannons’. Well guess what’s happening in pvp where people arent forced into bunker specs.
Man what you wanna do is just be able to burst them so hard whenever they appear, that they’re scared to even go for you. Being a tanky wall doesnt help much as i’ve seen, since these little buggers also have the best escapes in the world.
Simply fight fire with fire. Shatter Mesmer babeh. See a thief? You can stun, immobilize, blurred frenzy, daze, mirror image + shatter, knockback, GS2+3 for sick burst. Hell you can even moa him for ultimate trollage as it seems to always work through stealth. But i prefer mass invis, as long as you stealth after he does he will appear first and you can resume the rapage. Shadow refuge? np GS knockback.
Quickness is just a failed attempt at an exciting offensive cooldown.
I dont think it adds anything good to the gameplay, only detracts from it. The numbers on it are pretty ridiculous and its totally one dimensional (dodge this or die). To lessen this they gave it out to multiple classes. But then they also decided to give everyone different versions, another failed attempt at trying to make it interesting and exciting, even making it that much harder to balance in the progress.
Just another one of the many bad designs in this game that might have seemed ‘fun’ on the drawingboard but doesnt work out in practice, all for the sake of variety and being different.
This patch wont change anything for PvP’ers, it may spike a bit of interest in 8vs8 for a day or 2 with the new map, but that’s it.
Imo, PvP’ers (unless casual) should just take a break for a few months. There’s a lot of potential in gw2, but that wont be reached for a long time yet.
Yeah. Game is out for close to 3 months now? And look how every meager attempt has done nothing to keep people playing, are weeks behind the meta, and only scratches the surface of whats wrong with pvp. It’s going to take more than a single patch from this point forward, since not much has been done in these 3 months its easy to say that it will take more than a few months before this actually becomes a popular e-sport.
Question is do i keep playing this so im R50 by then, grinding something i dont fully enjoy for looking slightly better at a game that nobody could end up playing, or do i play a different game with better and more accessible pvp where the devs actually focus hard on making their pvp great and arent afraid to do so, instead of just saying it in huge empty blogs? Probably the latter.
If you like crushing your foes beneath the soles of your boot, to explode their brains upon your personal canvas, the entire world, like a mad sadistic painter that rules the universe with omnipotent powers, pick a mesmer.
If you want to be challenged by yourself and everyone around you, drop your own jaw and the crushed jaws of your burning bleeding enemies in unexpected amazement as their myriad of corpses turn to ash in unison, pick an ele.
Seems like you’re building more tanky than anything, so why not get more condition damage. If you have about zero condition damage i wouldnt bother with it tho. Take what source of damage you’re specialising in, if you already have lots of crit then power is going to scale far better than going from 0 condi dmg to 250.
Range feels so short on this. Is it because of it doing damage that its so much shorter than mesmer port? Not that we need more dependance on cantrips, but it’d help us out a lot of it was a tiny bit longer range. Feels kinda awkward to me.
Why would they ever make ele’s easier when people looking for easy playstyle can go mesmer or thief. I dont even understand how the same PvP team can make a something like a thief and then an ele both. But hey, its there, and im pretty sure they wont go butchering an involving class like this. Except healing bunker ofcourse, that kitten’s dumb yo.
Anyway there’s a certain few traits in our trees that are just so good/mandatory that anyone not picking those will be at a big disadvantage. A few Water traits, mandatory arcane, and three cantrips is going to make any ele seem ten times more skilled. Also the glass cannon ones will bend over like wet paper in a hurricane which can make em look like a bad player. A little knowledge goes a long way here, a thief could spec with his eyes closed and still beat 50% of the people.
If you like mesmer then go for it. Yes elementalists get owned when glass cannon. So do mesmers against any decent opponent. The only mesmers who last more than 10 or 15 seconds (assuming you dont run into culling issues when they go invis and what not) against a good D/D elementalist are the ones who dont go glass cannon.
The problem is people have this super tunnel vision about doing massive dps when it’s actually better to build towards outlasting your opponents. You go from doing okay in 1v1s to taking on 2 and 3 people at once when you stop building glass cannon. But whatever, go with your glass cannon stuff, I’ll continue to pull off stuff no other class can even come close to.
Bla bla, taking things out of context so you can write holier than thou blabber.
Yes not going glass cannon on an ele is better, did you read my post? That was the whole point. Wtf.
Glass cannon mesmers dont get immediatly owned by ‘decent’ people what the hell are you talking about. When people think of an ele they see big flaming balls of fire and explosions and lightning. High damage. Well currently that playstyle is on a Mesmer. Confusing opponents is for Mesmers right? Well as a D/D dagger i am totally confusing people by jumping, shooting, and blasting everywhere.
Saying a mesmer dies in 10 seconds is kittening ridiculous. Hell, MOA lasts 10 seconds. They can stealth for up to 8 seconds. 2 seconds immunity every 8 seconds. Distortion. It’s people like you who keep parroting the ‘ele is just so seriously deep, dude’ mantra that are bad to the class. You said it a millions times while we already know this, we get it, great job. Now raise your pants back up realise that glass cannon ele’s dont deserve to be this crappy when a mesmer takes a dump on everyone’s dog and mother. And yes, i play BOTH, so i actually know what im talking about. No, my ele doesnt have a kittening berserkers amulet. Nobody’s been wearing one for ages, keep up.
(edited by GankSinatra.2653)
Yeah i agree however i dont think dual professions is something this game really needs. It would totally change the game and i’d hate for them to start over now. Please just balance the classes first.
Im also very glad we dont have Monks running around anymore, unfortunately i dont see much of a difference with the Bunker builds we got now with insane self healing and downed ressing. Actually, all of those spammed knockbacks are more annoying than just a monk healing people.
Yes they do complain about thieves, its just drowned out by complaints of Mesmer and Guardian (rightly so)
Its not normal for the min/maxers to complain much about balance they tend to just roll the OP combos and are the one discovering them in the first place.
True. Admitting being OP also discredits their own achievements.
Oh and wtf i hear tourny thief crying all the time as well. Why are some people acting like nobody plays thief in tournaments? Thats utter BS.
Whatever, my Mesmer feels like a God compared to my ele. It actually has sufficient base hp and plenty hard CC’s and oh kitten buttons and immediate burst and immunities that it is a much, much better glass cannon. The damage and survivability is simply leagues above an ele if both wear a berserkers. Any other amulet and your damage will drop very hard. It also has much better ranged options. Faster than scepter and more range than dagger.
Yes Ele is super fun and awesome, and not uselessly weak. But you really should compare it more to other classes. I can bet your kitten that many people playing non-bunker Ele would feel right at home with a berserkers amulet shatter Mesmer. You lose out on fun because its less twitchy, but you win in fun because the skills you have gained playing a twitchy ele will cause you to become a PvP Raid Boss Legendary King God.
But maybe there’s more to this observation. Maybe Thieves are only the bane of bad players or maybe they’re ability to pray on the unsuspecting is what makes them seem OP.
Just a thought.
Thieves are the bane of bad players? I wish i had a nickle for everytime i heard this argument.
Then i could buy a monkey to type ‘but its the bad players that play Thiefs because its the easiest, most straightforward class around’ every time it appears.
