So for every game you win because of a 5 vs. 4, you will statistically also lose one because of 4 vs. 5.

Well you yourself are one of those players, so if you never leave a game, there are only 4 possible leavers on your side and 5 on the other. (might help motivate, at least) It could be that a lower rated player has a higher chance to leave a game than a high rated player so if you get high up on the leaderboard and get matched with noobs its more likely they’ll leave.

The only way to increase efficiency of matchmaking is by getting more players in, otherwise its just balancing between wait time and effectiveness with the odd algorithm change. Wont get better unless the game gets better. However if you are the jesus of gaming you will always run into this.

Stuns are good it allows and even forces teamwork for both the giving and taking side. But a single class shouldnt have access to multiple ones without a major cooldown or long windup is used. ‘Wait for my stun then burst’ is much better than ‘whatever i permastun just spam your crap’.

Player A uses an immobilize so player B can get his slow but powerful stun off. Why cant we have this instead. Half the things i read are just class vs class, ‘u can permastun me too’ ‘i cant even 100% you while you’re permastunned stop whining’. Its deeper. Decreasing dodges and the, in my eyes, terrible stability mechanic should allow some stuns to be decreased as well.

Mostly i just want the stun durations and cooldowns more in line.

Way back i must have done something to kitten off this random crazy chick, who’s rage and rifle were always pointed at me wherever i went. Naturally this became a fight in whispers where she called me a ‘fat virgin white male gamer nerd’.
I replied by saying i have a girlfriend so then she called all gamer chicks fat and ugly, insulting herself along with it.
At this point i actually got annoyed obviously asked if she was on her period, which as expected blew her up, cause she immediatly and hypocritically pulled the gender card at the first oppurtinity and went ‘lol u lost also ignored i got last word’.

If you’re reading this, i so won that.

To clarify, GW2 sPvP and tPvP is too difficult for the typical MMO person to become a top player in matches against people who come from FPS and other twitchy/reflex-based games.

And i guess you are one of those FPS players? Im asking because if you think GW2 is hard as far as mmo’s go you’ve probably only played counterstrike your whole life. Because the game is basically spray and pray kinda like a crappy shooter that doesnt mean the game fails because the FPS players are owning the MMO veterans, making them quit. Thats some of the most backwards logic i have ever heard.

Keep in mind. There’s only one stun break in WoW for most classes (trinket) on a 2 minute cooldown. You can have a lot more stun breaks in this game. Also, there’s stability to prevent stuns as well.

WoW had interrupts to prevent most CC. A much better mechanic if you axe me.

Devs wont respond because probably they don’t agree with you. Jonathan has said that Elem is OK, it’s just the meta that counter them (many players agree with him).

Fair point but is that supposed to be ok? Meta is what you make of it. Ele got buffed? Oh, look, meta changes. Why as a developer would you go ‘who cares, you will get your chance to shine in like a couple months’ when that just promotes hard counters in the game. A class that struggles in a certain meta should be raised up slightly in his problem area otherwise wont it just happen again sometime down the road?

Rather have them make dodging into an actual decision. Also it would make it easier to apply conditions because now they miss even on 2nd dodge. So basically everyone would still be rolling around like snowmen on christmas and cocaine but people would just care and react even less to it.

This might sound harsh, but I will say it straight. GW2 is a business product. ANet and NCSoft get a lot of free advice from real customers. That is a sweet deal. If someone had the answer to making GW2 sPvP a raging success, then that knowledge would be worth millions, literally. It would probably cause noticeable worldwide economic growth in the esport emerging market, too, so there is more value in it than what ANet or NCSoft would get. I know key information about what prevents GW2 sPvP from becoming a major part of esport growth, and how to correct the deficiencies. What I know is enough to result considerable earnings for shareholders effected by the current value of GW2 sPvP. You will not see me write that information here, nor by any other means without a lucrative contract.

We should have less mindless, not more. Lets look at fresh air. ‘lack of dmg outside fire’ ‘too dependent on attune cooldowns’ ‘my spells takes ages to hit-nvm it didnt hit at all’.
Fresh air helps all that yet its seen as mindless. I think its actually quite a smart buff but i would not want many more of these changes for the eles or they will end up just as boring as the rest. Its good that your kitten misses or that you cant use your kitten because you chose to use that other kitten the other time.

I wish Anet would try upping ele hp though.

Bla bla, meta mostly changes from dev balance changes. Cant compare a card game to an mmo. Moba’s have more than a hundred different heros available and even then the meta changes only rarely from some hidden champ potential. By meta i mean no longer being picked 80% of the time.

They shouldnt even be called the same if they have wildly different ways to acquire them. Call them Artifacts or whatever, but if they are legendaries they should be obtainable the same way as, you know, legendaries.

There can always be made exclusive hard to get titles for pvp.

Legendaries in pve are from grinding, not beating super high end bosses. So pvp legendaries should be from Rank. And optimaly, you should gain more Glory the higher Rated matches you play.

I made a more comprehensive post about this, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a dev response in it. Here is a snippet of the post and what should be in the scoreboard:

A) How many seconds was each point held by Red, Blue, or neutral?
B) How many neutralizes or caps by each player
C) Total damage and received done by each player
D) Damage done to downstate players
E) Total healing done and received by each player
F) Conditions applied/removed/cleansed
G) Boons applied/removed
H) How many stomps, revives, and deaths by each player
I) Special map mechanics: Treb shots fired, orbs ran, npc kills, etc.
J) Whatever else you can think of or other players can

I dont see a reason why your Poison shouldn’t be saved until the enemy is at half hp and thus much more likely to start healing. And by that same token why shouldnt Burning be there as a way for condi players to provide a little more timed burst along with their team, instead of just another passive dps increase?

Ofcourse the traits dont allow this. Hell, even some passive crap like ‘when target is at 30% hp, your next attack crits and puts burning’ is better than ‘put burn when you crit’. Because it would at least allow some counterplay. There are just too many random condi’s thrown around atm. Wouldn’t it be better to start there?

Yeah sure but i’d say a moba is a little easier to design. There is way more competition though. Balance isnt that stellar either but the various game modes keep it feeling fresh and allows other, lesser used Gods a place where they are better picks. If by some divine intervention they create a Ranked Arena, then i will have found the holy grail of gaming.

Ofcourse the true joy of that game is the amount of skill shots and even better, dem jukes! It truly allows for skill to be a much bigger factor than most moba/MMOs. Cooldowns and CC durations feel much more in-line with eachother as well, and missing a spell is actually possible and feels horrible due to high mana costs and cooldowns, which makes it feel all the better when you master a god and land 90%+ of your skills.

Gw2 should be more like that. I vaguely remember Anet saying they are somewhat looking at other moba’s for inspiration and what not, well stop looking at LoL and look at Smite. The potential is there in the Dodge mechanic.

Its stupid. I just rained 20 meteors on a guys face, yet that doesnt kill him. Only breaks his legs. This flagpole right here, no amount of cosmic power can outdamage this ancient artifact of destruction.

Give me higher hp pools or decreased dmg over this crappy stomping ‘everyone gets a second chance’ minigame. It just breaks up the feel and tension of the fight every godkitten time. It just doesnt feel as good to kill people in the exact same way as EVERYONE else, instead of getting a kill with your well timed class skills, big dragon tooth nuke or giant hammer swing. Trebuchets and shiny lights apperantly arent enough, combat needs a secondary objective too. It all just feels like distractions from the most important part, actual combat, and likely intentional.

If you consider less than a quarter of gw2s sales a massive following. Actually, if you’re just talking about launch day, wow had less than 10% of GW2. It seems like not many people here actually played vanilla wow.

Its because the game launched with a huge part of pvp infrastructure missing. They could have pretty much developed the game for another year pvp-wise, but hey, pve was ready and they wanted the moneez. Though i guess the game now has a good basis, some spectator mode issues and lack of game modes withstanding, and leaderboard issues that is..lol.

if you want the current gw2 GvG crowd to come in and save whatever esport hope this game has yes make it at least 15v15

Luckily we dont want them lol. Dont need people that are so disillusioned they believe a 15v15 will be more enjoyable to watch, and easier to follow than this already messy 5v5. Soccer, yes im EU, is 11v11 and all the viewer has to track is a white ball. Which already pushes the limits of the target audience.

Jon its great to have a little heads up. I hope development goes well and that during testing you keep in mind some problems can be fixed with a little balance changes that could just as well positively affect conquest, and that new game modes should bring in a lot of people that have gotten bored of the game while you ‘split the playerbase’. Its also not like most people will play just 1 mode exclusively either.

Better easier rank ups wont hurt either but that does nothing if i dont feel like showing it off because im bored/ balance sucks.

Ah so here is the hipster convention where we firmly believe CTF will be a better mode than Arenas. Clearly that will work, we just need to completely change your skill bar when you carry the flag. However a little balance for Arenas is just out of the question.

Post above: ‘DM isnt for teamplay, and gw is all about teamplay!’ Well i disagree, you must not have played many other MMO if you feel that way about this game. So yeah, then you use a hotjoin 8v8 which is conquest and braindead zerg mode auto attack spam, as an argument that DM will just be braindead auto attack spam.

Only Bhawb here actually has an argument even though he does want TDM it seems. But there isnt really much of a problem if in the first few weeks matches are over too quickly because
1. we have already waited a year for good balance, in which the meta has wildly changed through balance changes probably just as much in the name of conquest as it would have for DM.
2. it should allow us to better see the power differences between classes without any interference or necessary inclusions in teams through secondary objectives.
3. the game is too fast anyway, if you instantly die in a 3v3 you would even more instantly die in a 3v3 in a cramped tiny circle. Game needs to be toned down anyway. I wonder where people get this crazy idea you would die way faster if NOT forced into a 3 feet circle.

PS i believe arena should include a 3v3 over a 5v5, allowing fights not unlike those in conquest atm without the waiting, trebuchets, bunkering, and constant annoyance of reinforcements, which is totally fair but quite unfun, to me. 10 people in a small arena would probably revert back to hotjoin/conquest type playstyles.

But what i remember from playing a resto shaman, WoW is about ten times as twitchy and fast paced. Absorbing a <1.5 second cast poly with a totem while keeping an eye on your teammates and enemies because a missed second will put you too far back in healing, an interrupt that is up every 4 seconds and must be used fully or the game is lost, i havent seen this kind of quick reaction being that necessary 99% of the time here.

1.5s is an eternity, especially with instant interrupts and cast bars. That’s kind of like saying earthshaker is hard to dodge. Except earthshaker is quite a bit faster.

Yeah but there was haste, 1.5 second cast poly was a very generous estimate. But my point was that WoW had many more of these situations, clear to see and understand with big effects if you fail to counter. That makes it a lot easier to spectate as well.

Thats one thing WoW did well.

Sure the balance was worse, build diversity and even class diversity made this game look like sandbox game, but man i would have to say it was more enjoyable…and more skill based.

So will the next balance patch change the way Eles now? The game already had a massive following, they basically just added pvp stuff on top of an already popular and high profit pve game. They never made any promises but simply added stuff because it was asked a lot by the players. Which is kind of the opposite of this game.

That was pretty cool to read. But when people say ‘ANET’ doesnt care about pvp, they dont mean to include you in that. They mean the higher ups i guess.

Also i do think a gamemode can be good if its only one room, some line of sight objects and maybe some elevation if a lot of people like that, whether something so simple is good enough depends on if the game feels like it rewards quick thinking and reactions and thing like that. I believe GW2 can make some improvement in this area instead of ‘side objectives’. We got those already.

This is an MMO, not a shooter where everybody plays a ranger, there is diversity in skills in classes if done well. The exclusion of other side objectives is actually one of the things that draw me to deathmatches.

Looking forward to the patch :)

If conquest fails because players are morons, then conquest still fails. If you aim to provide entertainment then you give the people what they want. Clearly this path has been golden all the way. But hey lets ignore everything and just think that anyone with a differing opinion is just a noob @ conquest. I are master discussionist.

I always felt GW2 was fairly spammy with a dash of unresponsiveness to begin with (great combo). I do not think conditions are an inherent problem on their own, and its cool that players can choose between direct or indirect damage. To me its a deeper problem where its just much better to fire off your attacks without thinking about the team or when the cooldowns will be back up. The Ease of Application is just way out of whack in this game, which you could rephrase as ‘spammy’ indeed. To the point where you might as well just dodge spam instead of timing it against larger burst, and how gameplay is now basically ‘fit your tiny circles into the big circle’.

At this point that translates into conditions overwhelming the available cleansing options. Should conditions simply be nerfed i just expect other classes to take the spot of the currently OP ones within days while the old ones take a months long backseat yet again. Get the classes off the crack rocks please. Tone down your game.

Yes please dont take away from the conquest, you would let down a whopping 10 players Arenanot.

Conq fails, and so do you, open your eyes, this pvp wont grow unless you make deathmatch and the classes both more reactive and weaker, kinda like a scepter ele. (to fight against i mean, the most important abilities being big slow attacks that hurt if you dont pay attention but allow much more counterplaying.) Stop trying to make everyone feel like superman. Sure its ‘easy to understand’ right now according to your devs but a gamer would describe this as bland casualised garbage.
Also, amazing job saying this in a top player e-sport tournament setting, good to see you guys arent lacking in common sense. Especially when it isnt easy to understand at all not because the gameplay is intricate, but because its spammy flashy nonsense. Lmao.

Here’s something easy to understand: whatever you guys feel is a good idea, do the opposite. Then again good luck changing the game from Spam Mode to reactionary decision making, from designing hard counters to previous overbuffs to sensible balance changes. Any pvp game is doomed to waste away in a forgotten ditch without this and GW2 already lost its house.

Yeah that was an expensive lie. Could have bought 2-3 much better games on Steam for the same 60 bucks.

Now i just read forums because i like seeing GW2 crash and burn since i (and many others) saw all this horrible clutter braindead gameplay stuff happening a year ago, unfortunately after ANET already wiped their kitten with our sixty bucks.
