Or surprise me and prove this is good. I’m not leaving the game over this, but it’s not exactly extending my desire to play. Maybe I’ll be surprised, I just don’t see it. I see this solution as exagerating things that are issues to my personal enjoyment of the game. Honestly, there are a lot of bugs (events locking up, enemies becoming invinvible while you stay in agro status, realm guesting) that should be taken care of before new changes are implimented anyways. Don’t underestimate peoples desire to play more if they can play with all their friends. For some people all their friends are in their guild on one realm. For many people, we cannot play together without server transfers. And a single transfer would only add one friend while removing another (from friends accessible to pay with). The paragraph is not to get too wrapped up in the specifics, just to say there’s bigger, more important things to fix. Get this game out of beta feeling should be first priority. As it stands, GW2 is a game I plan to continue playing even with updates I don’t care for, but it’s not a game I dare recommend to anyone. I was the first couple weeks, but I stopped. I would love to recommend this to others, but I can’t in it’s current state. And ascended gear I don’t see helping this cause. I don’t want to show someone this game for the free weekend when I think there are enough things that will turn them off. I’ll recommend it to them (they’re much more casual than me, and likely won’t even think about it much otherwise) when those things polish up, assuming changes haven’t just conveluted it into obscurity.Anet has always had one of the best manifesto philosophies for game design. I really just wish they would strengthen the identity set forth by that manifesto rather than washing it out to appeal to a more classing MMO audience. i see a dev’s team that dont keep promises, they simply choose the easy way instead of study a method to keep their word… (and in this case, there is a really easy method to fix the issue, without lost credibility, and without unbalance the game), and this make me enrange more, and more.

tomorrow or the day after a lot of player will stop to play, and i think much of the ones will keep playing, they dont go to buy nothing else related to the game.
The drops will more than likely depend on a RNG, just like they do everywhere else in the game. In other words, you can do the dungeon a few times and never get drops usable by your class or spec, thus locking you out of the content until you get lucky.
And anyway, why introduce a new tier making exotics obsolete altogether, after they have led us to believe exotics were the most powerful items in the game stat-wise?
Why not just add infusion slots to existing max level exotics and legendaries, either automatically or via quest/event/mission/whatever?
This seems like the best solution. They could make it more like it was in GW1. Have a dungeon whose sole purpose is to get to the end where you can upgrade your armor to have an infusion slot. That infusion slot can be filled with upgrades that help you with the other new dungeons.

and why this dungeon cant be the fractal iteself? every 3 runs you have a boss no? your idea can be applied to THAT boss!
You can do all 9 portions of the dungeon without encountering Agony, so no it does not lock you out of content. If you wish to proceed into the higher difficulty runs, which are still the same 9 sections, then Agony will play a role, but you can still do the 9 sections.
Tell me, from a designer point of view, why do you need better gear to get a higher difficulty? I am lost.
And mostly, why dont simple let people upgrade their current equipment, instead of filling the inventory with 2 sets? this kind of stats levelling is not funny, and its useless.
the new infusion can be added the old items, and instead of new items with betters stats because they have no rune, i prefer to keep my old gear, my old runes, and slot them with the new infusion…
and if when im running through fractals, i see a skin that a like, i can always trasmute my equipment… thats is the game i was searching when i payed for GW2.

its a bad design, when the solution to keep the horizontal progression they claimend, and the new infusion mechaninc, is kinda easy.
I really dont understand why the devs are doing this step, they really can do a lot of thing with the fractal dungeon, infusion and agony, without force us to collect a new tier of items with different stats, make gear and runes useless, broke the manifesto and lose their credibility.
This ascent gear is not necessary! the new stats arent necessary too ! they can simply let us infuse our actual gears! and instead of a new tier, they can let the mob drops the exotics set that we miss on vendors with different skins too, and create different recipes to create not only infusion upgrade, but infusion slot too!
so we dont miss our actual items, we dont miss our runes,we can continue to play as always, but we can enjoy as well the new type of gameplay.

There are no stats, only protection for Agony, making Ascended gear pigeonholed into a certain stat set.
We don’t know if there will be different stats combination available for ascended gear like it is already for dungeon sets. That’s entirely possible.
What we DO know, however, is that no other rarity tier, except for legendary armors when they will be introduced, will allow to counter agony.
That is the problem. Not the 8% difference in stats, that a good player could somehow address, but the total impossibility to get rid of a condition, agony, than can’t be removed and eats away large chunks of your health with every tick.
But Agony is limited to only a single dungeon, so the condition is already incredibly limited, and only kicks in after you progress to a certain point. It is entirely possible to experience the entirety of the dungeon without having to deal with agony.
but what we know is that Agony resistance its ONLY A SIDEEFFECT OF INFUSION, we still DONT KNOW what are the real infusion effects! and where they work!
Agony its not the problem, but infusion and ascended items!

My main char is full exotics, but i was starting to do massive dungeon runs to acquire better skins to use, and experencing WvW now that im with maxed stats. But this incoming patch, has drained all my desire to play.
I really dont wish to start a gear collection to be always on top stats like any other kittening games! and this is why i bought this game.
From everything I’ve read the new ascended armor has higher base stats because you can’t rune/orb them up to give them a stat increase. Therefore they’re only really useful for the infusion slot to prevent agony in the dungeon.

Offensive infusion: +x% damage (or another effect, like to the old sigils or runes)
+x% agony resistance when you are in the fractal dungeon.
so if agony work only on fractal the rest of the effect where it work? THIS IS NOT CLEAR, AND NO BLOG HAS CLEARED IT.
if it work in this mood, ALL the old items we have, they become simply useless! because the old runes bonus is already included in the ascent gear!

It’s instead perfectly clear that exotic gear can’t be infused and therefore used in all the upcoming content (which will go well beyond this single patch) which will require infusions.
So the next question is:
How about runes and sigils? if the new ascent item are like a exotic item + rune + infused slot… runes and sigils reamain useful only to help you to collect this ascent gear!
But its simply stupid… why make 2 equal mechanic that they exclude each others?
Runes\sigil\jewel slots, are the same thing of the infusion slot, but now they are included in the new ascent tier! Making all the rest of the items, simply stupid to acquire!

We are about to leave this extraordinary MMO that you took 5 years to create…and never come back or hear from you again.
Last night I went through this thread and just picked out a few posts (5) of people saying they felt betrayed, quit, and were never coming back. I added them to my friends list.
By 12am EST four out of those five had signed in and were wandering around in various areas I can only assume having a grand old time.
The thing about people that are fed up and leave is that most of them just do it. There is no compulsion to post some raging fit on the forums and then give your account away. Any emotional investment is gone and with it the urge to let everyone know their feelings are hurt.
Anyway, if you ever wonder why the droves of players declaring “I quit” on forums never causes a dev to shake in their boots…it’s because it’s a largely empty threat.
So rather than cry wolf in a thread hoping that it will change something, why not just play and enjoy the game and see how the content launch goes? In the end you look less silly because you never know how many people out of curiosity will want to call you on your BS and see if you stick to your convictions or were just blowing smoke.
2 possible reasons
1) They’re enjoying their last moments of GW2. You certainly aren’t locked out of the current content with ascended are you? But they will not be buying gems or getting expansions, or getting this ascended junk. If they have a free game, there’s no reason not to enjoy the free stuff they currently have. Personally, I do not fit here, since this whole thing disgusts me to the point of not even wanting to play.
2) Giving away items to guildees. This would be my reason. I’ve got a load of junk to give away now, and some of it’s tied up in large buy orders coming in from the tp, so it’ll take a while to fully get rid of.
Or simply they are using something they payed for!
I feel betrayed too, and im continue to play, until the next expansion (or if a havent another game to try), but the fact is that simply that persons, will spend no more money on this experience.

i dont now, until the last week, i had my 40 euros ready for a next GW2 expansion…
Now, i think ill continue playing because i already payed the game, but i really dont think a will buy from cash shop or take a future expasion.
I dont like wasting money on broken facts.
Infusions are o.k. We had those in GW1. They usually only affect a specific part of the game.

we risk to have and esotic tier with one uprade slot, and an ascended one with 2 virtual uprade slot (one if the boost on the base stats, and the second is the infusion slot)
Because reading this wiki page, the agony resistance is a side effect of the infusion, and not the MAIN effect.
We still dont know if infusion work like rune\sigils, and work through the world content or WvW
Its funny that most people people where complaining and upset that Legendary weapons had the same stats that the exotics have and that the Legendary weapons are only a cosmetic change. Well, Anet listened and now they are finally making Legendary weapons the way they should have been in the first place. Legendary weapons are suppose to be the most powerful items in the game. Not some re-skinned exotic weapons. I applaud Anet for this! With the introduction to Ascended items it puts the Exotics lower on the totem pole where they belong. Underneath Ascended/Legendary items. All these guys that are saying they are going to stop playing will still be playing the game it may not be this month or the next but I bet my bottom gold piece if you track those that said they are going to be quitting they will still be around. So, stop your belly aching and enjoy the new content.

Chris’ new post implies getting a legendary before was “progression”.
Well guess what, it wasn’t. Like everything else, it was a completely optional skin.
Nothing in that post told us why exactly we need gear progression and why we couldn’t keep it just in new skin form. Not to mention “we won’t add a new tier every 3 months” doesn’t mean “we won’t add a new one ever”. So far it goes against every quote Colin Johanson, Mike O’Brien and others made on gear not so long ago.
And what about level scaling? You already utterly destroy everything in low-level zones if you’re in exotic gear, what will full ascended do? Just something to think about in the future.
i agree, me too im not intrested to get a legendary, because i prefer to play the way i like to do, instead of go to dungeon to acquire the max stat gear. Until few days ago, i was doing dungeon to have some good skin to customize my exotic set, and it was fun because o havent the pressure to get the POWERFULL item to be competitive, but only a skin to have a better look.
they will undoubtely lose lot of customer even if they retracts now….but they will lose less….
If they really go on with this prepare to see gw2 deserted….because its what will happen…
I think is clear that the situations is far beyond a simple QQ 7000 posts of protests is a sign they are doing something really wrong

That is a problem because there was never any statical difference between Legendary and Exotic.
They are creting it rigth now.
The entire gap never existed and if they would have had a true horizonal progression with only cosmetic differences then we wouldn’t even be talking about this.
If they want to keep the horizzontal progression they only have to make 2 things:
1) ascended gears= new skins but SAME stats of an exotics + rune, and if someone look the runes, they have the same distribution of stats. (for weapons same stats but without sigil)
2)let people to infuse the current CUSTOMIZED exotic gear
First thing they have to clarify how it work infusion.
If It give a defensive or offensive bonus to all the game content, and then agony resistance when you are in the fractal… This is a real bad thing, because not only our gear, but also runes and sigils become obsolete and useless.
If all the bonus provided by infusion work only on the fractal, they only need to adjust the ascended item stats, to the exotic range.

In the blog post its remarked that the bonus provided by ascended item is major then the bonus provided exotics item + a rune\jewel\sigil, and devs dont clarify some critical point, and instead they leave some door wide opened.
FACT: It’s a gear treadmill as it requires new gear with new upgrades
FACT: They stated they will add new infusions, which will require a new grind
FACT: Gear treadmill = Gear treadmill. Doesn’t matter if it is vertical or horizontal.
FACT: They said they would not put in a gear treadmill
FACT: They stated they wanted everyone to be able to do all content, which is impossible when you add gated contentFACT: If you don’t like it you can go play Guild Wars 1

Maybe it can suite best for company, but read the forum, and you can understand that is not what the players desire.
and in a business, change a statement that make your success in past, is equal to lost credibility to all your loyal customers.

the new ascendend gear provide a stats bonus increased to fill the lack of a rune slot so and ascendet gear is 8% more strong then an exotic item with a rune.
But… as the wiki said, the infusion provide an innate agony resistance, but we dont know the real effect of the infusion bonus. If the first bonus is applied to all the content of the game, and the you have the agony resistance when you go to the fractal, the result is the ascended gear is like:
((exotic item + rune\sigil)+8% stats) + additional rune (the infusion effect)
Now i dont know if it work like this, BUT the wiki let this road OPEN.
Old runes and sigils risk to become useless as well.
You had to see this coming eventually. I think it`s a step in the right direction though. How long can really play a game that offers no rewards when getting exotic equipment was as easy as spending a few gold on the tp? Did you really think that for the lifespan of this game you were going to be using the same stuff you aquired within the first few months of release? The quest for power and the treasure hunt are what keeps people playing.
No it’s not. Guild Wars 1 had 7 years of lifespan WITHOUT this STUPID GEAR TREADMILL. You only had to buy the armor you desired without worrying about getting better stats. Sorry about your statement but I think that it is so wrong
Nobody is telling you that you need to have these new armors in order to be able even survive the new content. You think a little bit of extra ac and stats are going to keep people from still getting rolled by mobs and bosses? A good player could probably do the new content in exotics and succeed, a bad player wouldn`t be able to and blame his gear for his failure. The new gear is just something that people can work towards if they choose to.
Its not needed? yes it is! the spirit of GW was: first gear up yourself, and then go to farm for a better skin, why this CHANGE NOW?
If this new gear its optional, its optional to play this game too a think.
And now, all talk like the infusion work only for the new content, but the wiki open a new road, because the agony resistence bonus is INNATE to the infusion infusion upgrade… so we dont know if the new upgrade work for all the aspects of the game, and then add agony resistance when you go to the fractals!
I think devs has lot something on the road, and they dont notice that a lot of gamers here dot need better stats.
Until now, our goal was: reach the maximun level stats in a shot amount of time, and then start the real play, go on dungeon for skins, go WvW, or try to achieve personals goals, like defeat an orr champion alone… This are the things that the team must ADD… PERSONALS GOALS…

There is a little problem, that we dont know how infusion work, the wiki said that the infusion provide an inherent agony resistance, but we dont know if the bonus provided BY the infusion is dungeon related only, because if it influence all the world content we have:
infusion gear with better stats then an exotics gear with runes + infusion bonus.
its not an 8% + stat (that is a lot) but its a: +8% stats + infusion bonus (for every item you equip)
So if the the new bonus work in this mood, they are not closing a gap, but they are creating a huge one! making obsolete all the previuos items in the game.

If so, then why are the casuals complaining so much when the hardcore players FINALLY get some meaningful content? In case you haven’t noticed, every single design decision in this game so far has been centered around making sure the casual players feel comfortable and pampered.
i was thinking that an HC player was someone with time and skills to overcome a really really hard gameplay… and not only a gear farmer O.o

Well, it’s now been confirmed that Ascended is a pure upgrade there to fill the gap between exotic and legendary. So you can all lay that discussion to rest and focus on what actually matters.
wich gap, now there is no gap between exotics and legendary, they have THE SAME STATS!
when they will release the ascended items, legendary will be upgraded to ascended quality… This is not a gap closing…its a stats ugrade!
Firing Linsey Murdock isn’t the solution, we don’t even know who idea was the one of adding gear trendmill in the game. We only know he’s the responsible for designing the new items, but not that it was his idea to ADD said new items.
Either way, whatever path ANet chooses to go on, they’ll have their playerbase divided by those who wants gear trendmill, and those who don’t.
Eventually, those who dislike it will leave, and only time will tell if they were right or wrong from a business perspective.If they want money (everyone does), they’ll have to figure which playerbase they should cater to, one thing is for certain, they can’t please both.
(Actually they can, but I’m not going to argue on this)
good point, but remember that was the old GW fanbase to permitt the development of Gw2!
betray old and good customers to keep occasional players that can return in no time to WOW (or any other mmorpg like this) its not a smart choice if you plan to live longer with this project ^^
some players simply left the game for the lack of endgame or the non balance of pvp and pve experience… to solve this, devs need to add more high end contents, balance classes and monster to give us a great experience… and maybe retake the leavers…
but.. this doesnt mean add a kitten new set with kitten better stats!

I really dont understand why create these new type of gear, instead of new skills… the higher skill costumization was the Anet success, and its last for about 7 years… even without new expasions.. so why revert this wonderful filosophy!!!
That’s the real comparison we need to make here; is ascended gear without upgrades better than exotic gear WITH full upgrades? Because that ascended gear isn’t going to have upgrade slots.
So? Are still better on stats, some rune upgrades are lame if compared with a stats boost. and an 8% boost, its a really good boost! and now we are talking about only the stats boost, but if they release ascended armors and weapons, i exepct that the new pieces have an armor boost, and a damage boost too.
I am severely upset with the direction the development team has decided to go with in terms of Ascended gear. I would consider myself a hardcore player, and have played through numerous MMO’s and was quite excited about GW2 especially in their adherance to a system outside the normal gear grind. As much as it is professed that this will not be a gear grind, I’m not blind and I can see the direction this is headed. This is a slippery slope, and as long as end game content will be nerfed in order to make high tier dungeon gear accessible to casual players while attempting to give hardcore players a leg up by increasing the reward temporarily of new content, a gear grind and WoW-like “Gear Treadmill” will be inevitable.
I would have hoped that the hardcore community would have continued to be rewarded to more aesthetically pleasing gear, achieved by more skill required dungeons or events, without actually necessitating a stat increase on said gear. This was the case in Guild Wars 1, it enabled content to be skill driven rather than gear driven as all players were put on a level playing field. This was the only reason I stood by Anet for so many years in the face of many other games that were on the market, a MMO where skill was the determinate factor in end game content not gear.
This is but one update, and Ascended gear is but a first step, eventually we will again come to the same cross roads and it will be all to easy to continue down this path. If that is the case I’m afraid myself and many of my hardcore friends who have cleared all the dungeon content before and after “buffs” throughout this game will leave with saddened hearts as to the direction that the development team has taken with this game. We are the community that shells out real money for continued investment into this game because we respect Anet and what they had tried to accomplish, not simply because we want a temporary leg up from the Gem Store.
I do hope it does not come to that, as I’ve already spent a deal of money on this game and for it to be ruined so quickly by becoming like every other MMO out there would be severly dissapointing. I had more faith and support in Anet before this.

and im not trolling you, i really hate the direction we are facing.
If the problem is only for the scaling difficult of thins new fractal… there is one simple solution:
1)ascended gears with same stats of exotics
2)make “tiers” of infusions with +% resistance to agony +% stats buff when you are in the fractal…when they release a more difficult part of the fractal, they release a new tiers of infusions upgrade, so you need only to change the buff, and not the whole equipment. (no wvw unbalance as well)
3) (optional)make exotics upgradable with infusions too.
I think its not so difficult to match with the ascent gear, the stats as exotics items…
Why arm all these gamers whitout even try to fix something.
Please give us more progression and continue tiers. We also need more competitive pvp.
lol you want competitive PvP but more differentiation between players based on statted gear. True competive PvP would be as statless and gear progression-less as possible.
+1 a real competitive PVP, can be obtained only when all player can wear with the same stats at easy.
What if the Ascended gear was even easier to get than Exotics? Just wondering.
i dont think this will happend, but if it make ascended item, avaible in the same method of the exotics one… there is no harm.
But We need a clear answer from above, on what its the future of the game items.

Because if you accept the new ascent ring and backpacks without say nothing, when they are going to make ascent armors and weapons, you CAN SAY NOTHING. your existing exotic gear, farmed with hours of events, dungeons, will become obsolete.

1) They aren´t. Actually nerfed as they don´t have a normal upgrade slot and instead hardcoded slightly higher stats.
2) Yes. Fractal Dungeon only.
3) Yes, on ascendant gear from the Fractal Dungeon.
4) Likely in later iterations.

why change my thread title? the question are TO DEVS so the title was fine.
1. The stat spread between Ascended and Exotic is almost the same as the stat spread between Rare and Exotic, 8%. It’s not 30% or 9000%, it is 8%, just like the difference between all the other tiers of gear.
The devs simply decided that exotic was too easy to get. There was not enough gear progression from Blue->Green->Yellow->Orange and then there was a HUUUUGGGGEEE gap between Orange-> Red.
They wanted players to have a more even flow in the game. So now they added a step between Orange-> Red, it now goes Orange->Pink->Red. The means everyone gets a more even progression and something to work towards.
2. This really doesn’t effect WvWvW. The whole point in WvW is that everyone is scaled to 80. Gear does make a difference, but rarely. After spending about 50 hours in WvW I can think of MAYBE 2 instances where my gear mattered, and even then it was mostly skill. However this should be a non-issue either way as there is a very simple fix. Make the badge armor in WvW ascended level and make it ONLY wearable in WvW. Problem solved.
3. The added stats on Ascended gear is NOT I repeat NOT a gear treadmill. A gear treadmill is adding in gear with significantly higher stats so you can clear content that is otherwise unclearable without said gear. This is not the case here. Ascended gear is in no way required to beat anything in the game. You can see 100% of the content in the game without ever getting ascended gear. Just like you can currently see 100% of the content in the game without getting exotic gear.
4. Agony is a difficulty gate, not a content gate. I’m 99.999% sure that you will be able to see all 9 mini dungeons without any agony resist. The only thing agony is restricting is the higher difficulty levels of those same dungeons. This means that the “hardcore” people who want to go to extreme levels have something to work towards and a reason to do it, while people who just want to see the content can without having to worry about it at all.
Please take a deep breath and don’t panic, this is not the end of the world.
exotic easy to get? maybe yes, but maybe you have forget that this was one of the promises made to us… Maxed stats without wait months, and then grind for better look.
And if its a only 8% stats difference, this is made the exotic gear obsolete in any case, because if i have my yellow rare set, and i have to choose between a +8% stats for exotics, or +16% stats from ascent, i choose the second one! and i go on dungeon with my crappy yellow gear.

1)Why you think that the new ascend gear need to be stronger than the exotic one?
2)the new infusion upgrade, work only for dungeons? or is a feature that can have repercussion on world content or WvW experience? And what about the Spvp experience?
3)what about armors and weapons? will the infusion slot replace runes and sigils?
4)There is the possibility that the new ascent gear become avaible with: crafting, karma vendors, WvW badges, old dungeon token?
