Tonight I am not doing Tixx again. Why? Because I cannot bering myself to kill more adorable, squeaking griffons.

I’ll harden myself up for tomorrow and the Toypocalypse. I will only run again the earlier instances without griffons, however.

Hi!
Help us a little so we can help you better.

Where are you? What is your current level?

What do you mean by helping people? Is it doing the Heart Tasks, helping the NPCs that call for your attention (Dynamic Events) or are you helping players?

I absolutely feel for you. I play five characters, three of them are now lvl 80: Necromancer, Ranger and Guardian. My guardian runs around swinging swords and that is just fine when playing alone. When in a group I feel pressure to play in some other way that the rest of the group wants. Therefore I prefer not to use the Guardian in groups.

When she was around lvl 40, I took her to Ascalon a few times. The last time ended it for I got yelled at for not having the right skills learned for dungeons. The guy thought that Guardians were useless without that one particular skill. I didn’t have skillpoints at that tiem to learn it, I did later. But it left me feeling people expect miracles out of Guardians.

Im disappointed when i look back on Halloween or Lost Shores events. During Halloween there was real challenge JP, great rewards and repeatable dungeon with still good rewards. Lost shores was good for final rewards and what now?

The final event Toypocalypse will be in Lion’s Arch. Compare and complain about Wintersday after that is done. Personally, I hope they are not going overboard like with the Karka Event this time.

Hmm. Well, I find it a fun little instance and it is nice to meet new people. Also, I find it the easiest way to get Giant Gifts. I am collecting sweaters to buy holiday items. I was saving to get the recipies, but I got them from the gifts already, so now I plan to buy some other stuff.

Not that I run around Tixx all the time. Did the first one five times and the second thrice. If it starts to feel like grinding, I stop.

Watching Tixx’s ship depart from the Grove. Sadly that thing moves too fast. It landed in Divinity’s Reachabout 5 seconds after it left, so I could not see it arrive. My daughter sits opposite of me and her character was at the receiving end. If our comouters were next to each other, could have seen both.

I did get salughtered in Diessa Plateau when for some odd reason the skritt in the box were lvel 69 while I was lowered to 26.

Confused about dynamic events

in Players Helping Players

Garambola.2461

Many events are started by someone pushing a trigger somewhere, so they happen at random times. Some events are on a shortish timer (for example Plinx at Cursed Shore) and some on long (the Dragon Champions). For the last there are timers on the web, but other than that asking in the map chat or reading it is probably the best bet.

You can play any profession that appeals to you. Seriously.

Barnaby Malong left out two classes completely. But both Mesmer and Necromancer are quite playable. Even by someone like me who doesn’t know the minute details of builds and such. I am enjoying both my characters of these professions. Necromancer, as well as Guardian and Ranger are levelled up, the Mesmer and Elementalist are comiong along at their own pace. Both a bit over 40 right now.

My personal team is consisted of:
Sylvari Ranger
Human Necromancer
Norn Guardian
Asura Mesmer
and
Charr Elementalist, who fights Flame with Fire.
None of them is a ‘main’. They all are as important to me.

These five are all female like me, but I plan on expanding and adding male character or two to the merry band in the future. I want to have enventually all eight professions.

Any combination of race/gender/profession is fine. Today I saw a very impressive Male Norn Mesmer, which is not the first combination that comes to my mind when creating a character. It was an eye opening experience and I am so glad I got to see that guy.

On this I do disagree unless it is town clothes. Climbing rockfaces, fighting and even running in high heels just does not look right.

I don’t mind if others want to run around an a couple of straps of clothing as long as I can get something to wear too without having to pay an exorbiant price. I may pity your characters wearing their bikini in the snow though. ;P

Now, I don’t mind having a crowd at the Plinx event chain. There is room for everyone there. However, one Sunday morning at 6 a.m. I was playing the event with just one other player and I was amazed. There was a sound of hammering while Plinx fixed the suit. I had never heard it over the crowd.
Undoubtedly there are many other events that have things to offer one never saw in a big crowd, even if the event does not fail. If it fais, as the OP posted, then there is a whole other story to see.

in Players Helping Players

The problem with Exotic jewelry is that very few people are willing to pay even the price of the materials. It takes quite a bit of Orichalcum just to make one piece as well as 5 jewel orbs. The real choking point is the ectoplasm though. Like any other exotic these also eat up 5 ectos.

That which is a problem for us who craft jewelry, can bew a good thing for the buyer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My guess is also that nearly every time when someone comes around and asks: “Hi! I am new. What should I play?” The reply is to start with Warrior since it is so easy to play. (I don’t know if that is true. I’ve not tried Warrior, Engineer or Thief yet.)

As for PvE being… No. WvWvW is something I only do a couple of evenings each month to get the 50 required kills. And PvP I will never voluntarily even try. For some of us PvE is the Game.

in Players Helping Players

I have no idea if party affects events with chests.

It makes a clear difference in events where the loot comes from the fallen enemies. The official guide book said that when you are in a group anything killed by a party member will potentially spawn loot for you if you wounded the npc during the fight.

I know I get barely anything alone, but running in an ‘event farming’ group on Cursed Shore about triples my loot.

I quite agreee with omerk: Do whatever feels fun to you.

However, something in your post stroke my eye. " I’m beginning to think about how I want to end my gameplay…" Sad that you feel game ends with either the storyline or map completion. There is still so much out there to enjoy.

I am not going to tell you what happens at the near end of the story, no fear. But you need to know about a technicality. The penultimate Personal Story quest is also the last in the dungeon storyline. To complete Personal Story you will need to do that one dungeon with four other people as well as a bunch of NPCs, familiar from either Personal Story or Dungeon Story or ’Destiny’s Edge’ book.

Garambola.2461

Have you put up the ‘flag’ saying you want to group? Or asked in chat? Random party invites happen sometimes, even though people are supposed to ask first. It is true that there is very little grouping. I am not entirely sure why. Do people want to prove that they can do everything on their own? Do they just all want to be trhe one deciding where to go and how fast? Or have they not yet discovered that loot gets better in a group?

30 is the level where the Elite skills become available and that is why it is an important step. If you have saved skillpoints (or are playing with Digital Deluxe or higher edition) you can add the Elite skill immediately. Otherwise you just continue doing the same things as you have so far, perhaps moving to new area, meeting new enemies and friends.

At, or near lvl 30, the first ‘yellow’ items become available. They are a little better than the green and may not cost very much at the TP. But you will do just fine in the blue or green armor and arms. I never had anything but the Personal Story rewards levelling up.

Garambola.2461

It takes 2 hours to complete 7 fractals? Really? In my sordid experience takes over 3 hours to complete the first three. Then repeat and with bad luck only one counts for the seven. The further you go the less chance there is to get one you haven’t done and more the chance having to repeat the ones you already did just hoping to get one that counts. I did this last month and thought the torture would be over when I finally got the seventh.

True, I don’t have to do the monthly. But I like having a goal. I don’t care about the karma, the mystic coins that just stack in my bank collecting dust. It is just something meaningful to do.

Someone, in game, just told me: “I don’t play this game as a job, I play it for fun.”

Persevering through hard things, working hard to accomplish something can be fun and rewarding. Persevering the same thing over and over when it is not fun is what I do daily at my work. It is not what I want to do for fun.

Gluttony: The Imbued Shaman is annoying, but can be beaten if you just never stop moving.
Though that is one of the reasons I hate the whole idea of having to go to Fractals again. I might need to face that creature more than once to get all seven fragments.

Truthfully though, I think those dungeons themselves are excellent. The problem is having to tolerate the comments from the other people in the group. Please, don’t tell me not to go with PUG. The PUG was the only time it was fun in that place.

No more Fractals in Monthly

Garambola.2461

I opened my game this morning and looked at the Monthly Achievement. Then I groaned and for the first time in my, perhaps excessive, 950 hours of playing this game I felt it was not worth the trouble.

Fractals, fractals, fractals. The whole game has turned into Fractals already. Why are those of us not interested in the grind forced into it again? Last month it made sense, it was the new thing.

I am not saying that Fractals could not be a part of the monthly, but as the OP said, why not have the achievement to ‘Complete 7 Dungeon runs’ with each fractal being one path. Then people could at least choose to be somewhere else in the world and finding groups for the other dungeons would, perhaps, not be as difficult as it has been lately.

Personally, I don’t like at all being forced into WvWvW each month either. It is confusing, laggy and people speak a “foreign” language there. All one can do is to follow the biggest crowd hoping to encounter enemies and somehow manage to murder fifty of them. I don’t want to be there, I feel like an idiot. I am pretty sure Commander Ravenclaw would rather people like me didn’t run around there either. I can complete it, I did last month too. But there are lots of people who cannot because of the demand it puts on the machines. Does it have to be every month?

Special Events being part of the monthly is both interesting and frustrating, escpecially since it is all hidden. This month many of us will be traveling to see family over the holidays and cannot/will not play while there. I now wonder, if it is at all worth trying to do these first two, unpleasant and grindy, things for the achievement that may require being online the certain few days near the end of the month.

Gaming after 80 question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Garambola.2461

Garambola.2461

“The Game Starts at 80”? Really? That is completely against the design of this game. The game starts at lvl 1. The game also does not end at lvl 80 even though certain people feel that way. The statement sounds like it came from other games, not this one.

Reaching lvl 80 is not the thing you have to do to get to play this game. However, the journey to lvl 80 can be an interesting experience. I recommend doing that for that reason. At level 80 not much at all changes. You get a bit better gear, sure. But you’ll still do the same things you did before.

I hope someone can give you tips on levelling. I have to be on the bus in 8 minutes, so I cannot tackle that right now.
