No. It was one of the main reasons for choosing this game that there was no monthly fee.
(It is enough that I had to buy a computer that I pay 40€/month to play this game.)
It is always a bit risky, but what about buying a used one? Some people upgrade their computers to new every year and sell the old ones.
Or maybe you could go for montly payments? It does end up costing clearly more, but the pain is spread over months (years).
Getting the absolute minimum is probably not the best idea. Things can be clunky and the requirements may rise when expansions come out.
No Laurels were given to anyone for January monthly.
Sometimes it works on Cursed Shore events. Sometimes I just finish the chain alone and abandoned. :P
While I am not going after one, I agree that the Legendaries should be account bound.
Dungeon tokens are account bound. I wish the items bought were account bound until used. (Yeah. Bought wrong class armor acidentally.)
Underwater is beautiful in lots of places. LA has the added advantage of being safe to idle.
I made the same mistake with Twilight Arbor once. It really sucks. Then I made another mistake and destroyed the item. It might have been possible to transmute it to a white item, making it account bound and I could have used the skin on another character. Is that so?
It lacks the option for people like me who have equal characters.
Interesting results though.
An easy way is to find a Wyrm. Stand in front of, don’t attack. Watch it and dodge at the moment you see the rock (other projectile). If it hit, you are a bit too close or need to go slightly faster.
Don’t underestimate your GF! This game is not too complex for her, unless you make it so. Let her be the one to decide what she wants to do, her interests may be very different from yours. (This from a middle aged lady, who plays a lot but has no interest in Legendaries, for example.)
Let her pick the race. You can either show her material on them beforehand or just let her sit at chargen. It does give a lot of information right there. Let her make her choices in peace, making a character can be a lot of fun and having the ‘perfect’ one will make everything she does in the game matter more. If she wants you to sit beside her while she does it, do it. If not, go make her a nice snack or something.
Any race is fine. I like all my five. And every character will eventually run into Zojja, so don’t let Felicia Day restrict the choice. It can be a nice carrot for a fan though.
Let her know you are happy to answer any questions she might have, but do not hover around, unless she asks you to. If you can be there IC with her that can be great instead.
Little thoughtful gifts are nice. Maybe a bottle of a color you know she likes. But don’t give her everything ready made. Instead go with her to get the materials or coin to pay for what she wants.
Also, don’t tell her that she is a newbie and therefore should only play, for example, Warrior. Long ago an ex-bf of mine did that to me. It felt insulting and playing a character that did not interest me was no fun. She can play any profession. Some just get defeated a bit more, especially at start, than others.
Most important for her survival is that she learns how to get away from danger. Explain to her about dodging, kiting and strafing. Or let Enigmius do it for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUKWeaXZeOY&feature=related
Salvaging is going to be the part that takes longest for me. Far longer than anything else. But I will get it done in four weeks.
Notebene: Don’t be afraid. Write a nice add asking for nice people. It worked very well for me. I got three excellent CoE runs that way.
NPCs are people too. I always resurrect them unless I really have to run, either to be somewhere on time or away from whatever killed the NPC. I protest not calling it legitimate!
Jumping off to death from cliffs. No, not my cup of tea.
Equal fun. The maxed ones are free to wander anywhere, but they don’t have the storyline.
I bought an Engineer box and got two rare cleric medium armor pieces, fwiw.
What did they look like?
It could well be that you need to kill the Maw for it. So many people have been saying they did the three fractals and didn’t get it.
Store and explorable. Each path it its own dungeon for this. Fractals are still their own category that I have no doubt will return to the monthly soon.
I like the lion, I just wish it didn’t look like cheap plaster with some gold leafing on it.
But that is what it is. Steel frame, something plastered on it. It was vident during the rebuilding.
I don’t play ‘toons’. shudder
But I do have one male character among my girls. It is fun trying to do things like a man would do them. Will probably get another too later.
I am sure you will be able to get something similar to the picture together. Take a look at http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/ and pick what you like.
The whitest white is celestial, but it also cost ridiculous amounts.
I for one wanted the symbol of the city back just the way it was. However, it would be a great idea to have a memorial statue for the Karka too.
That’s great news!
I actually used that site last night for a dungeon run and had the party full in 10 seconds flat. Good to know that it is not restricted to just those.
It is a matter of opinion. I don’t like it at all and the same goes for Arah and Sorrow’s Embrace.
I got almost to the end of the thread feeling that for once there is a positive thing here. Everyone has their own experience of course and no game is ever going to be perfect.
I just wanted to say that after 5 months and, let me check, age of 1469 hours, I still find plenty to do in game. Maybe it is because I haven’t ever been one to get great drops. Who knows? I do have three lvl 80 characters currently in exotic gear and three lvl 60 ‘contenders’ whom I have equipped with the best craftable armor and weapons. Even though people tell me it is wasting resources, it is my decision to make life a bit easier on the younger recruits. I’m also planning on recruiting two more characters as soon as enough gold gets saved.
Dungeons scare me right now after this patch, but I will have to try to get the monthly requirement done at least.
Enough about my oddities. This is just to say that people are different. Some get bored with the things others love to do. I hope all of you new ones will have a great time!
I’ve gotten a porous bone from one of little chests. I found it hilarious. I am guessing I normally would not have gotten anything from that mob.
Since I got much better loot from other mobs in the same event, I think those who said they’d no longer check the corpses at all might be missing out on some good stuff.
. If they choose to add older characters, you need to be able to change the voice as well.
Actually, I really wish we had the chance to change the voice in general. I am not going to go as far as to saying there should be more than one voice for every sex/race combination. But could not a filter be added to let us change the pitch somewhat? Even that would help to vary things.
Caer Shadowfain is correct. It is the second WP when you come in from Malchor’s Leap. Another good WP is R&D. If you start there you will also need to cross the river.
Open the map at Shadowfain. Plinx starts a little past the big round thing, the Arena, where the contender/champion events take place. Once you get to the other side of the Arena, you can see if Plinx is waiting at the low cliffs.
You are doing great. I have gotten 21 in January. I was proud of that until now….
No-one can have done it yet. You have to complete 5 dailies to get the monthly.
I’m bad, I’m bad…
No, Necromancer is not bad. I mostly end up playing my necromancer, because of the AoE on the staff helps to finance our expeditions. I do find Mesmer the easiest to survive of the cloth classes and Ele second. That does not make Necromancer bad though. You just have to be a tiny bit more careful that’s all. The difference can also be overcome with good gear. Necromancer is perfectly fine in the World of Tyria. Perhaps not in PvP though.
Most people won’t get their 5th laurel until tomorrow, so after that there will probably be lots of reports (read: complaints) about the contents. Some lucky may have the chance to buy today, so maybe there will be some more information on this soon.
This is something I am planning on spending my bay leaves on, so I am curious too.
People who run around as much as our heroes do, do not stay overweight very long.
If only it was as easy in reality. I should really drop some kilos.
Thought i got mine from some quaggens in the claw of jormag zone. Cant remember if it was green or blue though
It is either blue or green depending which you buy. It looks nice, but the Orrian at Gavbeorn’s is statistically better.
I go there when I don’t want to quit playing quite yet, but don’t have the energy to tackle demanding content. Karka shells and passion fruit come home with me. I wish I could say the same about Passion Flowers, but those are so rare.
Also went there to kill Young Veteran Karka yesterday for the daily.
First I will buy a gear box. Not sure for which character though.
Welcome!
Every profession has skills in all three categories: damage, support and control. You can read on them if you wish, if not it basicly mean that every character can deal damage, hinder the enemy and heal themselves and others. The degrees vary both from prefesion to profession and build to build.
Now, I know you will be told to pick certain professions and not others. Some may be a little harder to get started with than others, but nothing is impossible. Dying is not a big deal in this game or perhaps we don’t actually die when we get defeated, since we can resurrect. Anyway, the best professions are the ones that interest you. If you think a certain profession looks and sounds cool, believe in yourself. You can play any of these classes. (I like all six I am currently playing. Most surprised I was with engineer as that did not interest me at the start. I have not tried Warrior or Thief yet.)
Armor is divided in three categories: Light (Mesmer, Necromancer, Elementalist), Medium (Ranger, Engineer, Thief) and Heavy (Warrior and Guardian). Any armor in the category is usable by any of the professions it is made for. What looks cool is quite another thing though. What I like may be what you hate and vice versa. Take a look at the pictures yourself at Guild Wars 2 Armor Gallery.
Any profession can make it alone. Not without ever being defeated probably, but they can make it and mostly win. Learn to kite and dodge if you haven’t yet!
Parties are only required at dungeons, which are obligatory. While you don’t have to dedicate your character to keeping others alive, do lend a downed/defeated sister or brother a hand sometime. Not only is it a nice thing to do, but the game even rewards it with xp.
Absolutely saving it. Karma is easy, a memento like this comes rarely or een only once.
Indeed, I did post yesterday evening, when even those blessed with extra chance could not have had 3 laurels, let alone us who actually had to sleep a few hours at night.
I am curious about these, because eventually there will be a new character joining my team, but also curious if they would be worth it for those who already have every craft mastered by some alt or other.
I am not sure, but check out Dark Armor. I think that is the breastplate from Pagga’s.
If it is the wiki says the leggings are soul at Signal Peak Waypoint at Straits of Devastation.
Head to Wayfarer Foothills. We’re all at a start of something new there.
So, I was window shopping and saw in the last tab of the Laurel Merchant these boxes.
Chef Starter Kit.
One time account purchase. Double click to open.
Consumable
Unique
Account bound
Now, no-one can have bought one yet as they cost 3 laurels, but does anyone have any information on them? For example why ‘one time account purchase’. Or has there been anything said about the contents?
Maybe in a few days someone will have first hand information to add here.
Good grief. I did most of the daily before I went to work at 6 a.m. at Iron Marches this time. There were plenty of legionnaires and ogres to res there. I didn’t have time to get all the events done and I was missing a couple of enemy types. All else was done in under 40 minutes sadly alone as few people play so early.
The other one is somewhere in Straits of Devastation. It is in the sea above Elysium Beach.
Fixed earlier erroneous information.

If you want to level to 80 just crafting there is no need to ask which is the cheapest. You will need to master all 8 crafts.
Necro fix and im happy.
This is the part that scares me. Will my necro be survivable after this patch nerfs AoE? That remains to be seen…
I am looking forward the new story prelude and the dailies/monthlies.
I think it is funny to see people that were kicked from dungeons on last boss, because they can’t kill him in 3:30 minutes. I like to see how they defame developers for theirs lack of respect and professional skills.
I was actually once in Personal Story when a patch hit. I got a 15 minute warning, which was enough time to wrap tings up. Has anyone been in a dungeon at a time like that?
I would love to know just enough to decide whether I should do my daily today or wait.
The daily is somewhat of a cornerstone for my playing. Every day some character gets assigned to do either all of it or the difficult part of finding fifteen specimens. They are awaiting new, different challenges eagerly.
Yes. I would buy an expansion or actually two of each kind. I bought two copies of this game and a second computer so both me and my daughter can play, which makes it the most expensive game ever in my home.
Still at this time the cost per played hour is somewhere around 70 cents just for me. It is going down daily as no new costs are added. I am too poor to buy gems, so those are acquired only in game with gold.
Btw, not everyone likes the Greatsword legendaries. I don’t like those wide blades on any swords. The hilts are fine though.
It worries me because I am unsure if my characters can survive after Monday. Simple as that.
