Management isn’t agile.

Personally speaking, this strikes me as a problem rather than an excuse.

The only think ANet senior management has going for them is thatTrait 3.0 will dominate the forums once they drop on Tuesday and push the bulk of the expansion threads to page 10.

Whether or not that winds up being a good thing, though…

Considering there was that long, multi paged thread that Gail commented in, where people begged for the expansion to give them a character slot, how in the world did they not know that people really really wanted a character slot? How come they didn’t know that not giving a character slot wouldn’t cause an uproar? Which makes me think they did know and decided against giving one.

Just because Gaile commented in the thread and possibly sent word to the higher ups doesn’t mean that they actually paid any amount of attention, though.

Of course not, but it does mean that they make their policies in the way that they believe will be most profitable for them

Every company does that. Doesn’t mean they succeed.

If enough of a drop-off occurs, ANet will take action. Or they’ll take action for the sake of good PR. Or they’ll do like the SAB thread, throw platitudes, and do nothing. Regardless of what they do, consequences will be wrought. And they will either succeed or not, but just because they’ve planned things this way doesn’t mean it will go as planned.

but I don’t act like it’s the end of the world or take it as a personal insult.

Not everyone is doing that. Plenty of people are making reasoned arguments.

You’re still acting like Smooth and Wanze, though, at the end of the day. Actually, looking at some of your other posts in one of the other threads? You ARE SmoothPenguin. And the irony is thick enough to cut if you aren’t.

So, if you still believe as you do about the in game economy? Maybe you should scrutinize things a little closer with what those you disagree with here are saying instead of throwing out things like the “e” word. Because all I see you doing right now is dismissing things out of hand, just as has been done to you.

But the difference is, I’m defending ANet’s rights to make actual money, to pay their employees and support their families. I think it’s fair that they should be able to do that. But back then, I was arguing about their arbitrary decisions regarding the ingame economy, for which they were making not one more penny of real world money one way or the other. Do you understand the distinction here?

Thing is, there is no distinction. Or at least the distinction you’re looking at is irrelevant.

ANet doesn’t have a right to make money. Yes, they are a business. Yes, they are a for-profit business. That doesn’t mean they deserve to make money.

They are not guaranteed money. Just because they put out HoT and at the price they have chosen does not automatically make it the right price. It does not automatically make it a reasonable price. And it does not mean that the product deserves to sell, regardless of work hours put into the product, or whether or not ANet employees have mouths to feed.

The scariest revelation in all this is that they’ve been having conversations with themselves for…two years?

For the record, I don’t recall ever complaining about ANet’s business model, the way they handle cash money I’ve never really been bothered with, the thing that has always bothered me is how they’ve allowed their in-game gold economy to function.

And ascended armor.

But my point is that the arguments you’re trotting out in regards to the HoT stuff?

They’re the exact same kinds of arguments that Smooth and Wanze use in regards to things that you used to argue back when the BLTC forum was a thing.

You’re even using Smooth’s favorite word.

Anet has decided that the information they have released so far is enough to warrant having a pre-purchase available (one with no release date, at that).

If they are that certain that what has been revealed so far is worth $50, then people are perfectly within their right to decide if what has been shown so far is worth said $50.

It’s as simple as that.

You have choices. You just refuse to do them. That’s not ANET’s fault. It’s yours; especially after you narrowed down the available choices yourself.

So your argument is in fact that I shouldn’t have choices that I enjoy. Got it.

Try actually reading my post this time before quoting it. I said “normal course of play”.

And my normal course of play back with the old dailies allowed me to complete those dailies without ever stepping into PvP, WvW, or Fractals, and then some.

You selectively trying to do/avoid things is not normal course of play.

I don’t think you actually understand what normal course of play means.

So let me see if I’ve understood you correctly. You first box yourself into this hole that leaves you with only a handful of choices, then you complain that you don’t have enough choices. Is that correct?

So let me see if I’ve understood you correctly. Your argument is that I shouldn’t have choices that I actually enjoy doing?

I thought this was a game, made for entertainment. Silly me.

Except that was the point of the dailies since day one. It might have lost that spirit somewhere along the way but the idea was that ANET doesn’t want you going out of your way to do things to get the daily rewards. The rewards were something you were supposed to get as part of your normal course of play. So if you got them “by accident”, that was ANET’s intention.

Reminding you of your own words, here.

You must be one of those people scared of change and trying something different.

Yes, because you magically know me and know what I have or have not tried. I’ve given PvP its fair shake in several forms over several types of games.

I’ve tried enough WvW and PvP to know that they’re no different than in the other MMO’s I’ve tried them in. WoW, TOR, Runescape, it’s all the same. Only needed to have WvWer’s laugh at my dead corpse once to know I want nothing to do with that horrible community.

Fractals? Tried a few of those too. Can’t say I’ve found them too fun.

inb4 you tell me that I just need to try them again, because I should obviously find them fun.

Mystic forge, Vista and Daily Gatherer are definitely worth 10 AP.

Well, yeah. Of course they are.

that really aint an excuse they could perfectly fine bringing it back with no extras. it would give people a chance to get the SAB skins again
due to my limited play time i only managed to get 1 King toad weapon.

And yet it is very naive to think that they can just push a button and SAB is back working as intended.

There have been a massive amount of changes to the game and the engine since SAB was last available. So at the very least they would have to take people to test that it still work as intended and at the worst they would have to spend weeks if not more to fix issues that have turned up. Weeks that would have to be taken away from preparing the HoT launch.

So then make an event of it. Let players bug test it, and then take one or two people to work out the kinks.

I think i’ll stick with how the game was meant to be.

But the game was meant to have easily obtained BiS gear.

You know, that quote about how by level 80, all players, even casual ones, are supposed to have BiS gear.

Easy stats is how the game is meant to be.

There is a reason for it to give better stats than exotic.

It’s much harder to obtain,

But everyone always goes on and on about how easy it is to obtain, and that’s why people should just shut up and craft it if they want it.

But here you are saying it’s hard to obtain.

Once again, make up your minds.

and many people have already invested time and money to obtain it.

So? People invested time and money into a lot of things that ANet proceeded to take away.

What exactly makes Ascended so sacrosanct that it dare not be touched?

The gap so small, I wouldn’t even call it a gap (not including highly valued exotic skins)

So Ascended is harder to get than Exotic, but the “stat gap” is so small, that it may as well not be a gap at all.

Sounds like Ascended isn’t actually worth crafting. And if it isn’t worth crafting, and it isn’t needed for fractals, and it’s not needed for pve, and it’s not needed for wvw, and seeing as this game isn’t a gear progression game, then there is literally no reason for Ascended to exist.

There is no need for it for even level 50 fractals, since you can use the crafted infusions to reach the required AR. Therefore it is quite optional.
.

Make up your kitten minds.

Either it’s needed for something or it isn’t. And if it isn’t needed, then there’s no reason for it to give better stats than exotic, much less exist, so the equipment gap may as well be closed.

Those aren’t comparable in the least.

They involve investments of one kind or another and were/are being taken away. They are comparable.

There’s no particular investment, other than people got used to their current builds.

So people didn’t invest time, skill points, and gold into traits that they are now going to have to unlock yet again with the new system assuming they haven’t done any “skill challenges” (soon to be heroic challenges) ?

Huh, then I wonder why there’s a thread in the HoT section talking about just that…must be a bunch of crazies.

  • The only possible “investment” for SAB is the infinite coin. Arguably ANet should offer refunds to people who bought that, if they aren’t going to make SAB available annually. But that’s hardly a “sizable” investment, similar to what is required for ascended gear.

Ascended Investment > Money Investment

Got it.

ANet designed ascended gear to be laborious to obtain; they also put it in a game that was calibrated for exotics, so there’s no particular need in PvE to have ascended unless you do lots of high-level fractals, speed clears for records, or guild-v-guild.

So there’s no need for it…unless there’s a need for it.

Sounds like there’s a need for it to me, then. Also sounds like it isn’t optional, then, since a need does exist.

On the other hand, I don’t think it would be fair to say it’s fun to go through the effort of crafting ascended gear. Not that it’s any worse than making a legendary or other shiny mystic forge weapon. So, I would welcome a thread that offers suggestions for how to make the process more enjoyable.

Such threads have existed. They usually start with lines that go something like: There should be other ways to get ascended that aren’t RNG or crafting.

They also always get shot down by people like you that like to trot out the “ascended is optional” line. So I doubt you actually welcome a thread that offers alternative suggestions.

Why stop there? Why not give every piece of armor the same stats? Make everything equal?

That’s actually a wonderful idea. And yes, i’m being serious here.

I agree with Astralporing. That’s a good idea.

They have their reasons why they won’t re-release Worlds 1 and 2.

And those reasons are?

They won’t do refunds because they do plan to continue adding the remaining worlds.

They also planned to add Polymock. They also planned to have a shooting gallery minigame. They plan a lot of things.

That’s not a good enough reason with how little information they’re handing out.

They have spoken about it and there’s really nothing else to say.

There’s a whole lot more for them to say. Please stop pretending like there isn’t.

They do respect the players otherwise you would not see them communicating on the forums as all.

We’re two steps away from them not communicating at all. I’m sorry, but it astounds me that you consider the tiny breadcrumbs they hand out as communication, much less that you consider it good communication.

They do not have as much free time as you seem to believe to post on the forums.

1 post a month giving a paragraph at most of info beyond “we’re working on it”. If you think that’s too difficult, then I don’t know what to say.

They also have certain guidelines on what they can actually say.

Yes, I know. It’s exactly the reason that their promise of better communication was just a worthless lie.

They can easily find time do release SAB again,

They’ve had time to release it again. But they’ve still chosen not to.

After the expansion is out, I’m pretty sure that there will be a lull before they start up the living story again.

THERE’S A LULL RIGHT NOW. There have been several freakin’ lulls! There have been plenty of opportunities to bring SAB back!

This would be a great time for them to release SAB.

Right now is a kittening great time for them to release SAB.

So please, do the rest of us a favor and just leave it be.
.

If you hate it so much, why are you in a thread about it? Why are you posting in that thread, and as such, bumping it back to the top of the forum?

Why don’t you take your own advice and just “leave it be”.

There are many people that want constant communication which will not happen.

And this is how I know you haven’t actually read anything in the traits thread.

People have asked for something, -anything- beyond just the simple “traits are gonna be changed”. Not constant communication. But still, something more than just “yeah, we’re working on it”.

I do not know why, but for some reason, you appear to believe that there’s no such thing as a middle ground. Well let me assure you, there is. There is a middle ground between the bare minimum (which is what we’ve been given, at best), and constant updates on the hour by the hour.

There’s such a thing as being able to give substantial details without giving away everything. I don’t know why you think that’s impossible.

It’s also not required of them

I 100% disagree with that assessment.

I believe that their last most was at the end of January.

And it didn’t say anything that anybody didn’t already know. Please. PLEASE. Actually go in and read the Traits pt. 2 thread. Really read it.

Irregardless

Not a word. It’s just Regardless. Not a snark or anything. Just letting you know, because it’s a mistake I made for a very long time myself.

to which thread you were referring to though, they’ve stated their position and there’s no need for them to simply repeat the same post at various intervals.

Right, which is why they give a little more information. Like maybe some ideas of what the changes would entail. You know, information that their customers can actually make use of. Something with actual substance.

They’re working on redoing traits for or near the expansion.

And that is literally all we know. Again, they promised -more- and -better- communication. For the better to apply, they have to give more info than just “yeah, some time in the future”, or “yeah, we’re changing this, but that’s all we’ll say”

They plan to release SAB again and I gave reason why they’ve likely haven’t done so as of yet.

I really don’t care what reason you think up, for the record. You don’t work for ANet.

I can be at times. However, I was being serious.

That’s why it’s hilarious. Because you believe that.

They addressed players concerned and announced that they are working on making obtaining traits less cumbersome.

They’ve said and done nothing since then.

I have and I was there when they posted. They do understand the frustrations that players have

I would argue otherwise.

Meaningful is debatable.

Tt really isn’t.

You seem to want very detailed posts laying out exactly what they are doing with frequent updates.

What I want is more than just some sorry kitten platitudes. I am so disenfranchised with ANet and GW2 that at this point, for SAB, I would settle for them just telling us what general YEAR they intend to release it again.

And if you think that asking for a year is asking for too much, or if you think that asking for a year is asking for super detailed info? Then please, do not respond to my post, because we are so dissimilar that we absolutely will not be able to come to any kind of understanding.

How do you know that they do not have a date planned or a year?

Because having a year planned would suggest that they’re actually working on something, and as they’ve noted, they haven’t even looked at SAB since it last was here.

I do understand.

Again, no. You really don’t. Because if you did, you wouldn’t defend them walking off with peoples money like they did.

Let’s get something straight, okay? I wouldn’t be nearly as kittened as I am about this situation if they’d have the kittening decency to at least refund us the gems spent on the infinite continue coin.
That’s why I want more than just some meaningless “in the future” drivel, okay? Money was taken for a service that is not being provided. That is uncool and extremely shady, and it’s even worse because it’s a digital item and in most countries that’s still a nebulous topic in regards to legality. And before you try it, yes, there is a precedence for them refunding gems for a product no longer performing its intended function several years after said items were purchase. Town Clothes.

You didn’t ask for similar scale.

Completely re-releasing content is not even remotely close to changing some cosmetics or redacting a change. Nor was the reaction (overall, not just on the forums) to those things even remotely close to the same. Thus it is a rather different situation.

You asked for times where rage caused ANet to buckle. You never said it had to be similar to SAB in any way. Quit trying to move the goalpost. I gave you what you asked for.

Demanding that they change the color of something is not even in the same league as demanding they release X or Y content.

Which are all those other times where ArenaNet have buckled due to massive amounts of rage? I must have forgotten all about them, because I can’t really recall a single one.

Well, the entire reason Mike O’Brien made a huge post about better communication was because of the original SAB “riots”. I guess this one might not count as much since they never actually brought the better communication they promised, but it sure did get them to pretend to act.

Second would be the Traits thread. Enough rage was spewed out about Traits 2.0 that we’re getting a Traits 3.0. Not sure how you forgot this one.

Here, I’ll even give you a third and fourth one:

Third: The original idea ANet had for Commander Tag colors had them at 300g per each color, rather than 300g for everything, until everyone raged about it and they wound up working over a weekend to fix it without delaying the patch.

Fourth: There was enough rage about the watchwork mining pick that we’ve never seen another one like it.

Oh hey, how about a fifth, just because I’m feeling generous: The light Flamekissed Armor. It had its model changed after people raged about that, as well.

So um, yeah. You’ve conveniently forgotten quite a bit.

And they do give us better communication than they had in the past.

Step into the traits thread and tell everyone that. Tell me how that goes for you.

They’re not going to respond as frequently as you’d like as they have jobs and then personal lives afterwards.

They haven’t responded for literal months.

We did get great communication in the traits thread

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You’re hilarious.

I’d have to look at their actual post to remember exactly what they said.

They didn’t say much at all. You’d know that if you ever actually stepped foot into the traits thread.

They’re providing details based on the guidelines set by upper management.

Guidelines that don’t actually allow them to give meaningful details.

You may not agree with it, and want a concrete date, but they are not required to do so nor expected to.

A concrete date? They don’t even have a YEAR planned for SAB. They don’t even have a general timeline as to what YEAR they’d like to release it. That’s the entire problem. That they clearly have no actual intention of ever releasing it, again, despite what they claim.

I understand

You don’t understand crap. And I’m getting really tired of you pretending that you do understand anything at all about what’s going on.

but this is no reason to make baseless attacks on them accusing them of not respecting the customers, just making a cash grab on players, and whatever else.

I’m sorry, baseless?

They refuse to work on SAB
They refuse to release content in SAB that is already made
They refuse to give a refund on the currently worthless and useless infinite continue coin
They refuse to talk about any of it with their playerbase/customers
And to top it all off, they shove the SAB minis into the Black Lion chests, which are an RNG gamble, knowing full well how much people have been pining for SAB related stuff

Oh, but they totally respect us. Yeah. Totally. /sarcasm

If that’s not enough, then by all means, please tell me. Where is the line? When can the line be drawn?

Or should we all just shutup and live in your fairy tale land where ANet is the best company ever that can do no wrong?

They have certain people that have worked on SAB. If those people have been busy on other projects, then they obviously are unable to work on SAB.

SO RELEASE WHAT ALREADY EXISTS

You keep acting like people are demanding new worlds when everyone keeps saying it’s okay that there aren’t new worlds as long as they can play what already exists.

There may be instances that seem perfect to release content such as SAB but if it hasn’t been developed, obviously it won’t be released. They’re likely all busy finalizing the expansion and getting it ready for release.

And then they’ll be too busy because Halloween
And then they’ll be too busy because Christmas
And then they’ll be too busy because…

But you know what’s cool? There is SAB content that ALREADY EXISTS, that they can put back in the game. The works already done unless they were absolute idiots and deleted every shred of it.

What’s important is that they do intend to bring it back in the future.

Yeah, and they also intend to give us more and better communication.

Let’s go check up on the traits thread to see how that’s working out.

Please. Please just stop parroting their bullkitten. “In the future” was old and tired a year ago.

They will also not release timelines for reasons that they have already stated.

And their reasons are kitten.

Accountable for what?

Oh, I don’t know, the reusable item that they sold for money that continues to be completely unusable?

They do not have to bring SAB back. They never said they would when it was released in the first place.

Actually? Yeah, they did, during the Back to School installment.

You know, the second installment, where it was supposed to become a recurring thing. That’s why the hub has, you know, four worlds. That’s why four worlds are detailed in the map.

I will never understand ppl that ask for a refund on the infinity coin,

And i will never understand people who stand up for a company when they do really crappy things like this to their customers.

if you used it at all during SAB you are not entitled to a refund, you bought it and you made use of it.

And it’s supposed to be able to be used AGAIN. It’s not my fault you’re too stupid to understand why people want a kittening refund.

They’ve said that they will when the time is right.

Which is a wholly meaningless and worthless statement.

No. It’s a definite yes rather than it being that they will never bring it back. You may not like that there’s not a specific timeline attached to it but that does not mean that it’s a meaningless and worthless statement.

No, it’s a meaningless and worthless statement because what does “when the time is right” even kittening mean?

When there’s literally nothing going on in the game?

When it’s been five years later and they happen to remember it’s a thing that existed that peopled liked?

How about five minutes before all the servers permanently shut down?

How about when the Sun is just about to go Super Nova?

Oh, I know! How about just before the heat death of the kittening Universe?

Something as vague as “when the time is right” can mean that ANet can NEVER find the time right, and as such, never have to actually release SAB, again, and on the tiniest of technicalities they could claim to not be full of kitten. It’s a bullkitten vague statement so they can worm around having to actually be held accountable.

Christ, at this rate, Half Life 3 is going to be a thing before SAB ever returns.

You have a chance here to redeem yourselves as an awesome company. .

No, no, that ship sailed once and for all yesterday.

ANet has shown the kind of company it is. And it has shown exactly just how much it actually respects its customers and its playerbase.

I’m not saying it is the best way. But after a year and a half of posting, and two in game riots… what is the best way?
.

I’d also like to know the answer to this question.

They didn’t work on it last year.
They’re not working on it this year.
They’re not going to work on it next year.

Stop holding out for some kind of last minute hope, guys. Anet isn’t working on SAB. They’re not going to ever work on it. Those vague statements of “in the future” are just meaningless platitudes so that they can string you along with hope.

And the fact that they’re not actually working on it is all the more reason they need to stop trying to hide behind their meaningless and worthless “in the future” comment, bite the bullet, and give a kitten refund of gems on that kittening continue coin.

It’s a cash grab, that’s all.

And a rather shallow and hateful one, at that.

The funny thing is that IF they had added SAB back for April Fools, people would still have raged like mad because “they just go with old jokes instead of coming up with something new, the lazy kittens!”

Are you even capable of posting anything that isn’t just some rehash of the “but people would complain regardless!” excuse?

why isnt SAB out right now?

Because ANet hates and has zero respect for everyone that ever liked SAB or ever bought the continue coin.

I want to believe… but I wouldn’t put it past anet to add these for the sake of banking off the large part of the community’s desire for SAB.

Nah, this is exactly why it was done. At this point, there’s zero reason to ever believe SAB will actually ever return.

just gonna leave this right here..

Oh wow. The future! Why, thats so informative, they must have all kinds of plans set up!

If something as vague as “in the future” is enough to give you hope, then by all means, enjoy waiting forever.

But it was a sub for a year. It wasn’t ready, they knew it wasn’t ready, and they charged monthly for it.

And for every month that a player was subbed, Zenimax has granted that player an equivalent amount of crowns. Even people that came in all of two weeks ahead of time (and possibly up to the day before the shift to free play) have recieved a base number of crowns, plus bonus crowns based on how long they’ve been subbed. I’m sitting on 2k crowns just because I joined a week or so before it went to its new structure, and thus far? A number of things in their crown store are actually cheaper than ANet’s gem store (and other things are also more expensive, to be fair).

It’s not ideal, no. And having been a part of the beta, yeah, I can confirm you’re right about them launching too early. Rather, they should have never launched as a sub game. The writing on the wall was there since the beta. ESO couldn’t survive as a sub game.

But you know what? Having been a part of the beta, and now a part of the game as it is now? It has changed. A LOT. I would argue it’s improved a whole hell of a lot. Enough to certainly warrant checking it out if it can be bought for cheap. And at least Zenimax is trying to recompense people who subbed and paid money for the game. It’s a lot more than can be said for how ANet has treated anyone that bought an Infinite Continue Coin.

Listen to what you’re saying. That they changed direction “in the blink of an eye”. How do you know this?

If in the video game industry one year is barely any time at all, then how long could two months possibly be? Thus, the blink of an eye.

You don’t think there was serious debate and conversation, even resistence to these changes?

I really don’t, no. Because serious debate usually doesn’t happen when you’re panicking. Which they very much did.

You think Anet thinks with one mind and they all said, yeah, let’s kitten off our prime fan base. What is the liklihood of that?

And yet they still went through with it! I don’t care whether their intention was to kitten off their prime fan base or not. The fact of the matter is that they did just that!

I mean, I don’t know about you, but I remember the firestorm it created. I remember the Ascended thread. I remember the pages upon pages of people who begged Anet not to go through with this.

And I remember ANet going through with it anyway in its messy form and just tossing that thread into the recycle bin.

How much more likely is that they made this game that cost millions and millions of dollars, they saw an alarming trend of people leaving, asked some questions, made some tough decisions and in spite of everything felt they had to make a choice.

So then why not make a different choice? Do you really expect me to believe that Ascended was their only choice? That somehow, they were so incompetent that the only choice they could make is the laziest choice that all other MMOs have relied on to this day?

And once again, now that things are supposedly better, why not, oh I don’t know…fix Ascended so that we can go back to having that game where BiS gear was an easy process for everyone, casual or otherwise?

I’d lay money that my interpretation is probably closer than yours.

I don’t care what you’d lay money on.

Anet absolute changed direction when they brought out ascended gear. 100% true. So?

So?

The fact they changed direction in the blink of an eye is the “So”!

They made this manifesto, made a kittening huge deal about it BY calling it a manifesto, and then they couldn’t even wait two kittening months before completely changing direction and leaving skid marks in the road while they were at, they turned so fast!

Sometimes you have to change direction.

Sure. But maybe wait and see how that coat of paint looks dried before saying the wet application was a failure and dumping a different coat of paint on top of the still wet coat. Cause let me tell you, two wet coats of different colors creates a ton of issues down the road.

Much like what the snap decision implementation of Ascended did.

It doesn’t mean you intended to mislead nor does it make you a liar.

But regardless of their intention, they still wound up misleading people because of it, and they have still failed to set things right to this day.

And I would argue it’s the failing to set it right again that creates the perception of lying.

Same applies to SAB, actually. But that’s a different topic, so I won’t harp on that past this.

It’s entirely possible that Anet overreacted with the way ascended gear was introduced.

Entirely possible? No, no. They definitely overreacted and panicked. The haphazard implementation of Ascended is more than enough proof that they were just throwing darts blindly, hoping something would land even the tiniest inch close to the board.

Anet has always had a tendency to over-react.

Blizzard suffers from that, too. It’s the reason their newest expansion is starting to catch really heavy flak from within the community.

ANet would do well not to make the same mistakes.

Nightfall came out and they recorrrected again. I don’t know why anyone should be surprised.

They sure are dragging their kitten on re-correcting their overreaction with Ascended, seeing as it still remains crafting and RNG only.
