Oh hey, so now GW2 has had its own version of the Bashiok incident from WoW.

It’s always sad how stuff like this has to happen before a company learns its lesson in regards to things like security. Well, sad for the company. I find this hilarious and hope it finally lights a fire under ANet’s collective buttocks. As they say: ggnore

Should any skins be exclusive?

Gene Archer.8560

Personally I would like ANet to continue removing the exclusivity of items. I’m not one to care about prestige. For example, I went after Trib skins because I wanted the skin, and I did that back in the first run, before any of this exploit nonsense. The only thing that bothers me about the exploit is that ANet is being inconsistent in its handling of how they punish exploits.

But people getting the skins? Hey, whatever. As long as they like the skin.

This is a video game, and there’s no need to do this whole “have and have not” thing like in real life. People need to get over their kittens, cause they’re really not all that big.

The base blue set, maybe. A completely separate color set, maybe. Green/Yellow/Orange? Nty.

Orange is on the TP. It drops from any of the modes, and is also available via a daily. Orange isn’t the prestige you think it is.

much like how players who might do a lot of SAB would feel terrible if say the King Toad skins were made available through a SPvP reward track,

Speaking as someone who has done World 1 Trib Mode at least 16 times (as I have the collection achievement), I would be okay with this happening. I want people to be in the Super Adventure Box because they enjoy it as much as I do. Not because they feel forced to in order to get access to something they want. I don’t want people to come to resent the glorious box of adventures.

If that means sacrificing my prestige, so be it.

You must play normal and hard mode SAB to get the skins.

Baubles can be turned into Bubble Baubles, chief. You can do nothing but easy mode, collecting baubles, and then turn them into bubble baubles and buy the blue skins that way. Sure, it takes longer, but it’s still possible.

Only tribulation mode skins are locked behind anything, which are the green and yellow ones.

Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it would be a full game, with parts not taken out like a jigsaw puzzle, or missing entirely until a later date and then outright cancelled? Good times.

But did you actually have anything to say that isn’t an attempt to dehumanize me to discredit what I might have to say?

How about this? Regardless of what you may feel about legendaries, you 100% should still be worried about precedents like this. Because next time, it may well be something that you do in fact care about in this game.

I don’t give a toss about legendaries. The only way I’ve ever seen one in my characters’ hands is via the preview option. But I understand what it’s like having content I care about and have paid for being put on “indefinite suspension”.

Whether or not you care about legendaries, you should still care about this, and you shouldn’t be okay with it happening, because shrugging your shoulders at this will only reinforce to ANet that it’s okay to sell things and then not deliver on what they were selling.

Whether or not legendaries specifically being put on indefinite hold affects you, what it means when stuff like that happens does and will affect you.

Yeah, I’m a real monster I am. No empathy at all.

Except the way you phrase things and the things you have said aside of those quotes show that your…“empathy” is more in the line of “apathy”. You don’t care and a lot of your comments show that, because they come off as uncaring.

You can say “sorry for your loss” all you want. The rest of your posts show that you don’t actually mean that, or if you do, you mean it in a very limp manner where, again, you don’t care.

You also keep making snide remarks about the “more passionate people” as you call them.

But yeah, you’re totally over brimming with empathy. You’re such a caring fellow.

Your posts thus far demonstrate otherwise, and continue to do so.

You know, as long as it isn’t inconvenient to do so.

You keep missing the point that it shouldn’t be inconvenient for the customers in this situation. Or if you’re not missing that point, you keep ignoring it.

As I said. You are clearly incapable of understanding. You don’t care about the current situation. You have said as such.

No, rather it’s the fact that ANet should be offering refunds without any strings attached.

People shouldn’t have to get their accounts closed in order to get a refund on something they paid for that is no longer being delivered.

What do you not get about this?

Putting myself in the position of the wronged and betrayed, I’m still not getting.

Then you are simply incapable of empathy/sympathy or understanding and it would be better for you to just stop posting in this thread, because in no way are you helping the situation.

If you’re actually interested in debate and compromise, you’ll go from there.

I can’t play all of them if you add a hard gear check. I’d need to spend even more time (and money) to gear them all and have them ready for the Raid. We are not talking about one or two characters, more like 9.
.

And so to be able to raid with all 9, you would have to do what is necessary, and gear them up.

I second STIHL’s proposal. If these “raiders” are going to oppose difficulty settings and the like, then there absolutely needs to be a hard gear check, instead to prevent these threads in the future. If people aren’t willing to put in the work to gear their characters, then they clearly don’t actually want to raid. That is what all the raiders have been saying after all. To “put in the work” to be “worthy” of raids.

So, let’s have a hard gear check and maddoctor can put in the work to gear his nine characters.

None of us need care that it makes it harder for him to raid, since he doesn’t care that the current setup makes it hard for others to raid. It’s a perfectly fair and valid proposal for STIHL to raise. Kudos to them.

The entire point of raiding is the reward.

As Miellyn said:

If you only want to experience the content you don’t need the loot.
If you need the loot as an incentive to do that content you don’t want to experience it.

Take it up with them, it’s their words, not mine. I simply agree with those words and find them to be perfectly logical. As such, it only makes sense to remove rewards from raids.

If the only reason you’re doing raids is for the reward, then you clearly only want the reward and don’t care about the content, much the same as a lot of people here accuse Ohoni of. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Remove rewards from all content. That way, only the people that truly want to do content, will do it.

Absolutely correct. Agreed.

No, “best statistical gear” is just a different form of the words “gear with the best stats”, or for the MMO vernacular, a different way to say “best in slot”.

Many of the original Guild Wars 1 devs are still here…but yes, the industry has changed. It’s more competitive. There’s more at stake.

Which means make the game less fun than more! GENIUS STRATEGY!

But it’s nice that you think highly enough of me to take pot shots like you used to. I’d thought you’d forgotten all about me.

There are plenty of fun achievements in this game with fun names, so I’m not really sure what you’re on about.

If you light all the fires in one of the fractals you get an achievement called If Only We Had Marshmellows. If you kill at the chickens in the city in the Charr fractal you get an achievement called Out of Cluck.

Implying the game isn’t fun because you liked some titles in the original game is sort of strange to me.

Tonight in the news, Vayne is unable to connect the dots. More at 11.

They filled that void by locking away things that small guilds already had worked for and you KNOW it.

In my opinion, it’s really never okay to take away what someone or a group has already spent time earning. It would have been possible to simply give guilds what they had before and let them work toward the new things. There still would have been plenty to do and it wouldn’t exactly have been game-breaking.

At this point, I’m convinced it’s a symptom of a larger problem. For all that ANet has added in 3 years, look at all the things they’ve also taken away, or re-done for the millionth iteration, and in so re-doing, still take something away or re-start the unlock process that people have already worked on.

I’ve never seen this at such a scale from any other MMO. This is the kind of stuff that I expect from an EA backed game.

GW2 is No Longer a Refuge :(

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gene Archer.8560

And they “fixed” that with Heart of Thorns.

It wasn’t a problem for three years until ANet suddenly decided it was a problem and made it one.

But aside from that, do you really “quit” because they took the guild banners away? Were they so important that it was the sole reason to enjoy the game? So you are leaving for a couple of nearly useless buffs?

If those buffs are so useless, what’s the harm in letting the smaller guilds actually make use of them, still?

Up until recently, with the exception of WvW, large guilds had pretty much Triple Threat…maybe Tequatl. That’s pretty much the list.

So now, the answer is to leave smaller guilds in the dark. No wait, the answer is to take everything away that they had, AND THEN leave them in the dark.

Oh, and even though 3 people used to be a perfectly legitimate guild, and nobody ever had a problem with it, and ANet even recommended on several occasions that people make small personal guilds for some extra bank space, suddenly, out of nowhere, small guilds are a problem that were clearly never legitimate (even though they were), because ANet says so, and how could ANet ever be wrong?

But of course, Vayne is okay with it, so it MUST have been okay that ANet did this.

Anet is simply filling a void. And yes, some people will feel disenfranchised by it.

They filled that void by locking away things that small guilds already had worked for and you KNOW it.

But you ignore it, because it’s all okay, because everything ANet does is okay, every time.

All this talk about banks and loans in order to purchase a house, as well as getting lectured about economics is supremely depressing. I know how the real world works. Games are supposed to be a place to set that aside; a place where we get to dream and achieve and have fun.

Honestly, if making a precursor is analogous to taking out a loan from a bank, there’s something deeply wrong with the system. There’s nothing fun about having a mortgage.

I don’t think anyone expected ANET to mail them a precursor for purchasing HoT, but I do think people expected the “legendary journey” to be fun. At the very least, more than just an endless grocery list.

Fun fact, that’s pretty much exactly how Relic Weapons work in FF14

ATMA, Alexandrite, materia, oh my…

The first couple of stages were reasonable, but it escalated… quickly…

I’d say the materia portion is the worst, but yeah, the earliest stages are the best example of how to do it right, and I would even include the first atma phase in that, since even though it was, what, 25% droprate(?), the atmas could drop from any and every fate in the given zone and there were only 12 total to collect.

And you still got drops from mobs in those fates, as well as coin and company seals.

To be more clear, I think the best example of doing it right is the Braves Stage, wherein you take on various dungeons, quests, and challenges in order to power your weapon up, as well as the original initial stages of building the relic weapon itself.

Sadly, ANET has a history of making things that should be fun into thinly-veiled, flavorless gold- and/or time-sinks.

Yup

Precursor crafting would be a lot of fun for me if it was more along the lines of a scavenger hunt: do certain events, kill certain mobs, get certain ingredients, etc. I wouldn’t mind a long list of things to do, but for it to be fun for me some things would have to be true:

1. Items from killing certain bosses and mobs would have to be a given – I kill it; I get the item.

2. Events would have to work in such a way that if I participate in the event, then I receive the item or trophy or whatever.

3. Getting items from nodes would involve farming the right item and getting what I need without a lot of guesswork or grind.

4. Materials would have to be in amounts that it wouldn’t feel like a huge grind to do.

I don’t mind a long list of things to do, but I like the rewards to be a sure thing, not something I MIGHT get if I repeat the action dozens of times.

Fun fact, that’s pretty much exactly how Relic Weapons work in FF14

. I doubt ANet pays attention to any request unless their metrics back that request up.

And there’s no way for a player to know what the metrics are without sticking around since ANet never tells us anything until about, oh, 4 days before it’s gonna happen.

So I guess there’s the answer to why people don’t leave when they aren’t having fun. They stick around in the hopes that the game will change to how they want it, because maybe eventually they’ll be the metric in question, but since ANet never says anything, they definitely don’t leave because then they’ll miss their chance if they’re not there.

But yeah, since the hardcore junkies didn’t have the decency to leave, I wouldn’t expect the other side to leave any time soon. Expect either millions of posts complaining about the new difficulty curve, or expect a whole lot of nerfing in the coming months, since ANet can’t decide who it wants as its audience.

I’m serious. If you want fun and lighthearted festival stuff, where you just do some cute little quests or run some events a max of like, 20 times to collect festival currency, play FF14.

Their most recent Halloween event grants everyone who does the little quest line an “outfit” (quotations because it’s actually a set of themed gear pieces), a cute little pumpkin pet, and a broom mount.

And it’s just a set of cute little quests, no major hassle. Just a little something to have fun with. None of this grinding forever and spending thousands of gold stuff just to discover where an item is.

A noble sentiment. One that I agree with actually, and I honestly applaud you for it.
But, this is the internet we are talking about. The place where every mental-child can hide behind their computer monitors and say whatever they want without fear of repercussion.
It’s a sad state of affairs, really… Everyone with an axe to furiously grind, or who thinks that can do everything better then the people doing it, comes out in droves and screams like babies…
Why? Because they can.
All I can say is, unfortunately… so long as this Anonymity of the internet prevails, there is little we can do about the angry children who throw their temper-tantrums. If they get truly vitriolic in Map (or any other) chat, report them for Verbal Abuse.

No they wouldn’t. :p
The vast majority of internet babies are far too cowardly to step out from behind their computer monitors to ever do such a thing.

that gives you your answer right there… if they cannot be open and say what happened, then it is likely Anet forced them to remove it.

on second thought it could be the employee was fired for posting something he was directed not to….

Or maybe his editor thought it was a shoddy article and had it taken down and the original writer doesn’t want to talk about it because he is embarrassed or furious at his editor.

Many people, even the ones who agree with him on the general idea, felt the article was shoddy in many ways, and his editor could very well be someone who believes as such as well.

So what you’re saying is…that his editor let him post the article before bothering to…edit the article?

Sounds like the editor is the one that should feel ashamed.

Scarcity and locking weapons behind challenging content adds value to the weapon. More so if the weapon has some cool lore behind it.

I disagree with the first part, but not the second. Lore is definitely an important facet in…pretty much every game, ever.

Making weapons easy to obtain devalues it. Especially if you can obtain it by literally doing whatever you want, which is what Ohoni proposes.

Again, I disagree. I’m not really going to get into this, though. I’ve already done this loop in a thread that Ohoni made that was deleted awhile back, and I don’t feel like doing it, again.

Suffice to say: My brain doesn’t fire its electrons in the same way as people who need something to be unique and rare for it to have value. Like, to a point where I really don’t understand the fascination.

I dunno about you, but personally I couldn’t care less about participation trophies. Obtaining them doesn’t feel as a reward to me.

I don’t like participation trophies, either. They’re just a physical reminder that you lost. And nobody likes to lose.

But I don’t agree that easy to get items are a participation trophy, much less that it’s even comparable.

Even for people outside of the guild it’s exciting to see someone with an incredibly rare weapon that you’ve never seen with your own eyes before.

I wouldn’t know, because I’ve never felt this. I mean, don’t get me wrong, seeing the weapon is cool. I wouldn’t argue that (though even then, personal aesthetics would come into play, so I may in fact not care at all as you walk around showing the weapon off).

But I’ve never cared an iota about the person the item is attached to.

I guess the best way to put it is: I’m not looking at -you- in awe. I’m looking at the -weapon-, because theoretically it’s the first time I’ve seen the weapon, and theoretically it’s a weapon that aligns with my personal aesthetics.

As for a correction to your example, and to illustrate my own: your friend didn’t get Frostmourne, but they probably got Shadowmourne, because that is a possible high rarity drop when paladins, warriors, and DKs are in a raid.

Shadowmourne is an axe, though, which have never had aesthetics that I have cared for. So in your example, had your friend waltzed into town and declared his obtaining of Shadowmourne, or just been noticed or whatever, I would be the guy taking a quick look, going “meh” and just going about my business.

So I generally don’t “get” that whole deal.

You’ve been informed wrongly.
.

Actually he’s been informed correctly.

Frostmourne has never been available as a drop from the Lich King on the official servers. The only way that could have happened is on a private server.

You can live without the rewards.
.

So can raiders.

So I’m glad we’re in agreement: remove rewards from raids.

There is a reason raids in other games usually have very little RNG but bosses drop good loot all the time.

lolwut?

I’d love to know which raid based MMOs you’ve been playing, because they sure as hell aren’t any of the most recent ones, aside from maybe FF14.

The notion that ANet been sitting on these and are refusing to release them is absurd,

No more absurd than you continuing to post in this thread.

This is ANet. The absurd can never be ruled out when it comes to them.
