I agree. The issue has to do with what I wrote above: the frustrations and wasted time of perfectly competent and organized players.

The issue is that perfectly competent and organized players apparently let a whole map fail. They should be reported from the sounds of it.

I would question how important having those actual stats on your jewellery is to wvw.

The meta for most pve is berserker gear with scholar runes and fire/air/+damage sigils. I’m doing absolutely fine without those.

Ye its like tom clancy games, where you need to stealth all over the place.. not my idea of fun. Good Luck With HoT

Never played a Tom Clancy game, is that what you do in them? Sounds terrible.

I don’t have stealth on any of my toons. Stealth was suggested for people who are having trouble getting around. Same can be said for Orr for instance, this isn’t a mechanic specific to HoT maps.

All the maps can be easily got round by watching a video or two and looking up what you need to do on Dulfy. Additionally map chat is full of people probably doing the same things you want to do. I highly recommend using other players to achieve your goals.

Stop gating map completion with events

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

General Health.9678

It’s a waste of time because it’s tedious. It’s a waste because it blocks progress towards various goals without adding to the sense of accomplishment after completing them.

Au contraire. I’m sure there are examples where categorically that may be correct but using AB as my argument:
If you power up all the Eastwatch pylons you get a time-limited stab at Vinetooth. This may be your goal. It may just be a handy by-product of wanting to complete the Eastwatch events as that’s a goal in its own right. You are also contributing to the meta and that’s a definite goal for the whole map.

The poi that is blocked behind vines is behind a group event to retake that part of the map and is quite good fun, ending up at the champ bramble. The poi being behind some vines isn’t there to ruin your game. The event chain that opens it up is fun and then you get the poi. Fun and a goal. It remains open for a while even if you didn’t do the event. Again the event is part of a chain of events that you get rewarded for and it contributes to the meta.

It’s a waste because it works against the simplicity of mechanics found in the rest of the game.

What simple mechanics would you like to compare here?

I don’t see anyone claiming that event-gating and time-gating make the maps more fun for more people than maps that don’t include any gating.

ME! I love soloing round and then joining events to get to the bits I can’t get to. Don’t get that much in core maps anymore unless there’s a daily dungeon and everyone needs a group or a world boss event or you want to do fractals. All those people saying HoT is too hard.. if there was more stuff that was unlocked like in AB by a zergy meta, maybe there would be less complaining. I would not want more maps where you just round and round and round and r.. well you get the picture.. like Orr. AB feels more like a more involved Gendarran Fields.

old school gating, that serves no particular purpose in making a game more fun; it just serves to slow us down.

I don’t see it slowing me down at all. I join a meta map, meta map completes map, I complete map. If it was just like Orr I could take all my toons round that in a couple of hours solo. I want the game to do more to make people socialise with me and the metas do that. Slowing things down also means whilst I’m there on the East, people will come do the Trespassers HP. It’s a bit of a trek if you’re not there already, not the easiest one to explain where it is or to get people to come help you. But whilst you are there doing the events it’s an easy one to get help with and the timer gives you time to get it done.

Surely if there are good reasons to slow us down, there are better mechanics that can accomplish the same result without being so painful.

If there are, what would they be?

I’ve been able to complete the Orr maps on many toons without too great difficulty, so it definitely shows that they are drastically more doable than later maps. Maybe I’ve just been lucky and have found many of the spots you are referring to cleared out when I got there.

Can’t you apply that same luck argument to the things you are saying are locked/gated in HoT maps?

What bothers me about the post-release maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

General Health.9678

I’ve never seen TT done randomly successfully, always used a guild based LFG to do it actually successfully. World bosses are advertised on a timer site so people know when to turn up. Use one to know when the metas start on HoT maps.
For all I know there were hundreds of people doing other silverwastes maps but without the LFG taxi I don’t know that. If I wanted to populate the map I was on, I’d add a taxi and wait for people. This doesn’t mean Silverwastes has failed as a concept, it was just me being there for the daily and not to organize a whole map, I’m in the middle of map completion in TD on my Daredevil and I was keen to get back to doing that.
People who want to do the meta on a map, use a timer site and set up taxis. It doesn’t matter if there are one or 10 waypoints, look at Dragon’s Stand, waypoints everywhere. Doesn’t make it more or less popular for that reason, in fact they are all contested until the meta starts and it kicks off from the first waypoint on the map.

Your point was that too few waypoints would lead to map death.
This is not the case.
Todays daily was silverwastes. There was nothing in LFG so I just stayed on the map I landed on. I was the only person escorting the first bull to the first fort. I then retook that fort with a couple of other people who turned up. Then escorted another bull to another fort.
In the end with no more than three other people around me I got all four events done.
Sure I didn’t complete the meta and kill all the legendaries, but if I wanted to do that I’d throw up a LFG.
More waypoints in Silverwastes wouldn’t help me do the meta, only more players.

Game design 101: If you place your save points too far apart, people will stop playing because they don’t want to do the same thing over and over.

And yet that isn’t what is happening is it? Silverwastes was the most populated farm map for the longest time, it didn’t need WP’s everywhere, just enough to get onto the map and into the labyrinth after the meta.
With HoT maps the complaints are about the maps being full all the time. That lack of waypoints again must be causing that, right.

It has a couple of maps, one is full and you can start on the next one by throwing up a lfg taxi for people to join on you. Soon you will have a second full map. There will always be a third map where someone is wandering round despite the inherent madness in doing that. That’s probably me doing map complete and gathering bits of things on the way. Apologies if you end up on that map, please use LFG taxi to get people to the second map.

We do have guild halls, but I want something where we can costumize our way such as housing in wildstar

The problem with saying “like in a different game I play” is that I have no idea what it’s like in that game. Additionally we shouldn’t be trying to make games like each other. Love WoW or SWTOR raiding? Do it there. Don’t bring it to.. oh wait.

I imagine player housing is baked in from the outset, not really something you want to take on nearly four years later from a coding point of view but you know, it could be a feature. Given I have no idea how it works in wildstar, I’d suggest it would work like it does in GW2 and be a massive time and goldsink for basic items and luxury items part of a collection or tied to an event or gem-store items. Which is probably not what it’s like in wildstar but is what it’s like here. I can’t see that being something that individuals would want to get behind which is why it’s a guild based situation.

I admit I’m puzzled by the achievement as I’ve soloed all the story achievements up to this point. To end up requiring a group is odd. I’ve tried it once with guildies, it was a terrible experience. Scaled terribly and the mission owner died so game over for that run, updrafts didn’t work so only two people ended up flying round an upscaled mordy. We tried it a few times until it got a bit heated on TS and we called it a night.

God I hate Plinx. So boring. There’s no waypoint for a start so you have to run across half the map to get there. And explain to other people how to get there. Then you aoe some trash only to run back across the half of the map you just traversed. The champ on the way doesn’t give loot, just karma which is a shame, I miss pulling Plinx into the arena. Then aoe some trash ooze. Then you stand around for the landing zone part. Then some more trash and just as it gets good near the fort, someone will give Plinx speedboost and it ruins it. And then finally the champ abom. Definitely the best bit but by this time something else has started and people leave to go do that as a full Shelter/Pent run is better loot/time than a single champ.

Orr is great for karma trains and / or if you don’t have HoT. I frequently pop back to Orr to gather wood/ori/truffles (I miss omnoms being important) and when I do I’ll do temple events and giant/ooze. There’s still a lot to do in Orr and it’s all nice and simple to get round. Except Plinx. Bugs me. As you can tell Give the poor guy a WP already, there’s a bunch of stuff up that end that would benefit from it.

Which class for solo HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I really don’t feel my berserker solo, in berserker gear. Marauder is +Power, +Precision, +Vitality, and +Ferocity so won’t be much different, the problem isn’t staying alive, it’s just a bit boring, as has been said with banners it’s a buffing class. Having said that I was told that burn warrior is excellent fun so maybe I just need a new build.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Berserker_-_LB_S/T_Maximum_Condition

There is condi DD build on metabattle. Sounds fun. What it’s like solo in HoT I don’t know, some of those mobs will trample you to death really quickly whilst others will root you to death. Very much a playstyle thing I think.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Daredevil_-_Condi_Roamer

Another vote for a reaper, the necro elite. It’s faceroll fun. Those pocket raptors everyone hates? Stand in them middle of them, drop a well, pop rise. Laugh manically but not for long as it’s quickly over and you’re stood in the middle of a pile of dead raptor minis.

Love my mesmer. Second toon (after guard) to complete all HoT maps. Shatter build, berserker gear is pretty good dps and nice access to group speed boost for when the dps isn’t quite good enough or for when you want to get to the next mob asap cos the dps is great.

Why is map taxi seen as bad?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: General Health.9678

General Health.9678

It’s good for the few, but bad for everyone else as it further fuels the zerg mindset and potentially kills off the other maps as people leave or continue to try to.

This is the fault of people, not the game. Get there early is STILL the mantra. Can’t get onto a full map, start another. There can’t be only three commanders in the whole game trying to get into DS or TD for instance. On a new map? Start a new instance, pop a tag, throw up your taxi.

That full map could easily split in two and still have more than enough people to complete the meta.

No it couldn’t. The map fills and becomes full. It can’t easily do anything. And why should it? Those people joined that map and want to play on it. If you’re not on that map, start a new one, there are enough people to fill a map and start a second instance, they just need a taxi so they join you on yours.

Meanwhile, the people that don’t taxi and always find themselves in dead maps eventually stop showing up.

Do they? I’d suggest they eventually figure out they need to turn up earlier to get in. Why is the map dead? Because nobody will throw up a tag and start a taxi? Because that’s the answer. It’s not really dead just doesn’t have visible tags.

Even if the maps were populated however, people’s perception can be a major problem. If people don’t know where others are, they see no commanders for example, they’ll assume the map is dead.

A people problem that I’m not seeing. If you see no commanders, pop a commander or mentor tag and throw up an LFG taxi. People assume if you are taxi’ing that you are playing on that map and before long, you all are.

The UI should help with that by showing all events, how many people they’re actually scaled for, how many people are nearby and there should be an easy way to request help (ping chat and show an icon on the map for example).

When I’m in a squad I see all that, map chat tells me the rest. I agree the UI could do many more things than it does, I recently found I couldn’t talk to a Priory weaponseller as I hadn’t joined the Priory and had to hunt for a toon that had. It’s not obvious. But in a squad I see what all those people near me are doing and other lanes, well I don’t need to see them, map chat covers it. I don’t think there is an easy way to request help. You can ping a poi or wp near you and ask for help already – easy if you are near one – but getting that help to come to you? Player choice and terrain difficulty means you might be somewhere hard to get to or nobody is interested.

The average player simply isn’t good, so it needs to get easier with more, otherwise you will get into that situation where people don’t just want you to leave, you’ll have to. There’s really no reason however to not make it easier with less, except that that was meant to be the normal difficulty.

This seems a bit unfair on the average player. If you’ve made it into HoT for instance you’re already pretty good and you quickly learn not to stand still or stand in gunk or run ahead or lag behind. Where you can stand still – and how many people still stand at the old Shatterer spot and dps ineffectively – I suggest a bit of shaming. Name a toon “awful squad”, pop a commander tag and invite all those people. Then try and drag them away with squad chat. Might get some traction. If eventually there just ends up one afk ranger there then they’re not scaling anything up and you can ignore them.

Bosses are unbalanced in HoT maps

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

General Health.9678

one of the reasons players don’t bother much

Please don’t speak for the rest of us, I play all the maps for different reasons at different times. Sometimes it’s for a mastery point, sometimes for map complete, sometimes for map currency. Also depends what toon I’m on, if I’m something really squishy, I won’t do patriarch on that.
If you fail patriarch for whatever reasons, it’s down to team makeup and nobody can predict that. Get 10 new rangers flying around.. might not be as successful as nine tanky berserkers and a revenant. I have no idea what is the optimal for any of those things, I’ve relied on zergs just doing their thing.
If there is something you need to do, something you need to guarantee happens then you should join a guild that does those maps or events. They have the best chance of success for you. TD fails all the time. DS doesn’t. There’s an AB guild. I imagine there’s one for VB, keep an eye out but even if not.. consider asking in map chat for more dps or more CC for the boss you are at. See what happens.

If a whole lane carries on following a deliberately obtuse commander than that is down to those players. You can do any map without commanders. I ran the last story mission where you take on mordremoth with a pvp engineer and man that guy was insane. There were turrets blowing up all over the place, I found myself just watching him bounce around destroying everything at one point.

Not enough, the enemies damages are still insane, and many parts (masteries etc) are still not solo able.

The damage is not insane. If your build can’t handle HoT then you are doing something wrong because there’s not that many people complaining about HoT mobs. Many parts (masteries) are communes so that isn’t true. The ones that are not require 2 maybe 3 people depending on builds and such. They are easily completed by asking in map chat.

in my opinion, anyone who enjoys HoT and can solo it are not really casual players to me..
The whole hot mechanics are designed to be not casual friendly.

Well as you refuse to let anyone help you despite offers and as you’ve said in the past you’ve moved on I guess you don’t want to be proven wrong. If by casual player you mean bad player then sure. HoT got harder. Casual means not serious, few hours a week, one weekend in four? Who knows, there is no definition. That doesn’t make them bad players. I’ve got a guildie I see once a week very regularly, I’m his Sunday evening GW2 session and we duo everywhere including HoT. He doesn’t have exotic or higher stuff, his gear isn’t all one thing, he doesn’t spend hours secretly practicing to impress me. And you know what, he doesn’t suck. As for long term goals, Gw2 in general has none, except fashion.

That isn’t a GW2 goal, that is a player goal.
Other goals are the one thing you don’t like, masteries, legendaries, specialization and other collections where participation will get you the pieces, map and world complete on all toons, fractals, dungeons. No matter when you started there’s always something you can find to do.
Fashion is the worst goal, for a start it’s subjective and anyone who turns their graphics down can’t see it anyway.

Start with a motherboard and cpu combo, shouldn’t be hard to find a paired offering at overclockers.co.uk or newegg or wherever. Anything i5-y will be good.
If you can squeeze in more than 8gb RAM, consider doing so.
I often see mobo, cpu and ram deals. You know it’s all going to work together, takes a weight off your shoulders and if you’re going for something specifically to overclock, you know all the components are sold to overclock together.

Add a decent PSU, modular is nice, avoiding unbranded economy models. Modular is nice because it’s tidy and if you’re going to add a visible panel or get a case you can see into, tidy is better. Even if you aren’t.. tidy is better for cooling / air flow.

Graphics card – definitely wait for the 1070, it’s not the 1080 but it’s going to be 3/4 of the price so value / buck.. should be better. Or wait for the aggressive market reshuffling that always occurs when one of the manufacturers brings a new card out. AMD will retaliate and flagship cards will get relisted at lower prices, old cards will stop being produced and will get sold off cheaper to make way for newer ranges. Buyers can profit at this point over the next couple of months.

The hybrid hd/ssd drives are really nice. Gives you SSD booting and HD storage. And/or separate it with an SSD boot device and an HD storage device. However if you can only buy one drive.. the hybrid would get my vote.

Stick everything into a case that lets everything breathe.. tiny towers are not the way to go when you run hot. If it has to be small.. consider better cooling such as water.

If you really need to add a DVD/CD reader/writer. But do you really need these anymore?

I reckon for building it, places like overclockers.co.uk add a premium of about £100, $150 so you could do worse than starting with your budget, seeing what they will do you for the money and then buying the same parts but adding more RAM or upgrading the graphics a notch or whatever you feel like.

Why make everything a cash shop item, just reduces the game to a credit card p2w model that would be a pale self of what this game set out to be. If you don’t get alts and exploring then MMOs probably aren’t for you.

I see that as an acceptable statement. If what we’re saying is that the gear we get from the boost is fine as far as it goes but ulitmately nothing stops you being ganked.. then fine. I’m pretty sure that during a gather I can turn that around on my zerkers. And at that point my retaliation will determine the outcome. If I survived the first attack and can zerker back in response.. I stand a good chance of winning

I accept that because that isn’t how I play. I’d be dead in zerkers gear at that point. Is there really nothing I can stick on my level 80 boosted character that would actually be good and defensive?
Again the scenario is I walk up to a node, start gathering, rooted and jumped by a mob. Is there literally no difference in my gear type versus survivability? Am I pretty much dead guy walking at that point?

Well I think we established we can’t dodge the frog that appears whilst we were foraging. So what would have helped us survive and even retaliate? A larger HP pool I’m guessing it the answer to this so Marauders over Soldiers? So you get some ferocity to retaliate with if you survive.

What about the new shortbow Legendary? Players who want it may be getting to the point where they are making Clovers of Random-mess for it.

Well that’s a weird one to pick on, why would that, now, be the one thing that is important. Are you making one perchance?

So if one coin costs 8000 gold, they still won’t do anything. Yeah sure…

There were no dreamers for sale just after I made mine. I wasn’t going to sell mine.. but I’d have cornered the market for a split second. They weren’t 8k gold and that was a legendary. Coins come in to the game constantly so this isn’t going to happen.

Do you even bother to read other people’s arguments, or you’re just trolling?

Read it all, not trying to upset you by failing to understand the issue.

1. This is not like leather or orbs. You can get them by playing the game

You get mystic coins by playing the game. You get mystic coins from the TP same as leather and orbs.

2. This is not like laurels, because there are alternative ways of getting everything sold by a laurel vendor.

Is this about clovers?

3. How the hell can the players fix speculation, when speculators know how many MC’s there are in the market (TP stupidly shows it), but actual players don’t know how many MC’s there are in the game being hoarded?

I’m sorry you don’t know something you think is important, I don’t think it’s important to know how many are being hoarded. It’s a gamble on behalf of the seller. Tomorrow everyone who is hoarding could offload their stash and prices would tumble. Nobody can predict that. What I can do is just find the weak spot in the legendary supply chain and attempt to control it for profit. This means buying coins as cheap as possible whilst still making sure I get most of them and reselling them for the most money. Some people flip for a short term profit, others want the price to be 1 gold or more so they have a longer term plan. That’s how it works.

You don’t want players to fix this, you want players to suck it up and buy them from speculators, which makes me think you’re a TP flipper.

Well I’m sorry you think that, I was explaining what you should do, not what I am doing. If you want coins you should buy them and to make money you should sell some other stuff. That’s how it works. You can even make money doing this, surprising what you might have in your bank / storage. I salvaged a ton of rares I had stored and made a surprising amount of ecto I didn’t previously have.

Do I want players to fix this.. hmm.. well.. I personally don’t care, I’m not selling my coins, not buying any new ones, I’ve got enough gold I can do what I want in my own small way and I could buy gems for a really good trade-in price with rl money if I wanted to right now. Wonder how many coins to the pound I could get.. I digress.
If you want to fix this, don’t buy them. The price will come down the more people collectively stop buying them OR.. group up and form your own consortium, get the guild to pool their coins. I was in a guild that didn’t buy from the TP for a long time, just need to trust the leader to handle the transaction in the guild bank.

But those are things I would do. You may find your own things to do instead.

Lol am I?
I’m not.
You’re just upset there’s an issue for you. And others, I am not singling you out. But it’s exactly the same as the guy who doesn’t have any leather and wants the devs to fix it. Same as the guy who doesn’t have laurels or orbs. There is an in-game way to get what you want, it’s the TP.

It’s not anets responsibility to fix players activity. Playing the Trading Post is anathema for some people in many, many games. If this is your first game, it’s the first time it has annoyed you, it has annoyed me many times and at other times I’m sure I’ve annoyed other people when I was doing it successfully. There is nothing stopping you overbidding and undercuttying the flipper. Nothing. Except your attitude that it’s broken and anet needs to fix it. Which they are not going to.

Some people are just too blinded by the fact that they don’t want the price to go down (because they don’t want to craft legendaries). How can anyone validate the fact that you have to log in every day during a whole year to get a skin?

You don’t. Buy them off the TP.
There is also that new brewer of the month achievement. I believe that takes a year so there’s that..

People with them would like to get some money for them. Hardly a surprise.
You want some but don’t have any. Free exchange lets you both come to an agreement.

They don’t need to be anything’ed, anet already said there is a good supply coming in. Just one guy is buying them all.
There is nothing stopping you buying them instead of that other guy, you just don’t seem to want to. Which is fine. The answer isn’t for anet to fix this tho, it’s for players to fix.
Imagine the issue only applies to you. You are saying “anet fix this for me”. Won’t happen. We have seen the same thing when people don’t have enough leather. Or laurels or orbs or whatever.

The merge just shows a mod has noticed a similar topic, nothing else.
If you need them go buy them. Or don’t. Still your choice.

HoT Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: General Health.9678

General Health.9678

Hello, if you are like me I’m sure you were disappointed when anet announced that the new legendaries would not be developed anymore

Nope, didn’t care. I was pleased at the new method to obtain them initially but then after pages and pages of people moaning about them being gated behind broken events and how apart from one “interesting” part the other parts were a gold sink, I stopped caring. Given what was said about the resource required to produce them, I’m glad it’s not being spent doing this. It would still be spent there however regardless of what I think IF the metrics supported this. Apparently most people don’t care or didn’t care or they’d be still in development is how I see it.

So to my suggestion: I would like to suggest adding the precursors for the new legendary weapons as drops in HOT maps

They wouldn’t be precursors tho would they if there are no legendary weapons to turn them into.

now you know that place has killer frogs, you know to flush them out before you begin your harvests.

You can’t run round with your hindsight on all the time, it takes time to build that up. I think a perfectly acceptable playstyle on all characters is to walk up to some flax when there’s nothing around you and start to harvest it. When the frog attacks you, then how could you have known? It could be a patrolling frog. It could be one that was previously killed and has just respawned. It could be on its way to an event that has just started. You can’t know why it was there or guarantee it will be there next time. As nodes move around you also can’t know every inch of every map all the time. And what if it’s not frogs. What if it’s raptors or smokescales or mordrem cavaliers or mushroom chargers. There’s a bunch of annoying stuff that can jump you whilst you’re mid-action that roots you for a second, doesn’t have to be gathering.

The level 80 boost gives you a set of soldiers iirc. Would I survive that frog/whatever better and have a chance to kill it before it killed me in the free gear as opposed to berserkers? Would I be even better off with something else? Does gear not matter and it’s all about traits actually or still somehow about playstyle? I mean I have to have some gear right.. and there must be a better option than some other option.

May not have made that clear enough.
Ascended:
Trinkets use laurels and commendations
Armour – craft the cheapest stat, convert in the Mystic Forge

tl;dr – people don’t seem to think ascended gear is worth getting that upset over as it’s only required for infusions in fractals and is just nice to have everywhere else.

From quickly reading back you want ascended trailblazers trinkets but you only wvw and they don’t appear in the laurel shop. To get them you’d have to raid or do the story and you don’t want to do either. Apologies if I’m summing that up incorrectly.

No you should buy them whilst they’re 60 silver.
If you missed that window, you should buy them whilst they’re 85 silver.
If you miss that window.. well just pay 1 gold for them.

Why would you stop going for something? If you need 250 coins and you have zero, buy 250 coins. It’s what you would do if you wanted 250 wood and had none. Sure you might chop down some trees. Maybe you might chop down all the trees. But you know what.. why don’t you chop down some EXTRA trees.. sell them.. and buy your coins.

It’s called the trading post for a reason, just trade your excess for someone elses excess.

There would be gripes about cost. And then the reality of how they’re not that effective really based on that cost would factor in.
Laurels and guild commendations and fractals and story achievement awards give you ample access to trinkets. Gear you can craft and change the stats in the Mystic Forge. The general consensus appears to be that it’s not required in any game type except high level fractals for infusions.

No I know that, as long as you are stood in really close proximity you see it. I wandered off to get the iron that was dotted around. A few feet away and I had no idea if the heart was being progressed or not as I couldn’t see their heart.

Maybe I’m mis-remembering, I’d need to check when I got home. My impression was that it was limited by proximity.

It would also be nice to see the other players map completion. If we were instanced I’d expect to see the other players story/world/etc, I’ve always felt partying up with people could tap into that, even if you were in the open world.
