In the past you couldn’t do any of those things. You were new, everyone was new, all the mobs killed you all the time, you had to spend money walking everywhere, you never had enough money / time / karma/ mats for anything. People complained about having to join guilds, about world events, about the gem store, about how there wasn’t enough content, about how it was too grindy and boring and NOT LIKE GW1.

People have been complaining since the start about all the same things.
So they add more activities for everyone that everyone can choose to do.. and some people hate it, some love it, some are already bored of it, some aren’t.

Raids aren’t ruining anything, players are ruining it for themselves.

Your global name doesn’t affect your characters names, roll a new character and level through everything again, gaining any bonuses your old account has, saving you money from buying a new account.

As for raids, they’re terrible. If you try them and hate them then I told you so.
If you try them and love them then you can tell me so.

Either way if you have an account and have watched videos.. why not just go raid?

If we’re talking “actual base” and looking at who makes anet money.. it’s still not the casuals you’re talking about.

Those collections and achievement points.. there’s a lot of those bow bear rangers you mention that think even those things are too hard. There might be a LOT of those people but you wouldn’t want them to be your base when you need your game to make money.

Those raiders that come and play then leave? Maybe they bring thousands of dollars each time they come around. That would make them a desirable group to target.

All of which is a bit irrelevant. The “actual base” of casuals is not being ignored by the addition of the raid which is being worked on by a separate team.

I did this mission last night and walked into the first updraft and flew around no problem. Second time didn’t work.
I don’t think I did anything different but I may have done because it’s not obvious what you’re meant to do and at that point in the fight it’s all a bit laced with panic.

There were four of us and two made it to the second updrafts so it’s not broken, just unclear what you are meant to do.

Unfortunately the mission starter was the other person who didn’t make it so that reset the mission for all of us (would really like to see this part changed).

I’ve not seen any figures to suggest the casual player (plays casually, doesn’t have enough gold to buy gems, doesn’t have enough commitment to but gems with rl cash) contributes more than the raider (major time investment, totally committed to the game, very high chance they convert gold to gems and use cash to buy gems) is their actual base.

If you mean there are more casual pve’rs than raiders then sure but I’d imagine that raiders spend more than casuals and also that casuals are more likely to become raiders than vice versa.

You could say the same thing about dungeoners and fractalers and scribes.. It’s more a measure of involvement than anything, doesn’t matter what the current label of the latest thing you dislike is.

You already have a rarity indicator in your equipment options
You could use specific bags to store specific gear
I have various great swords on my guardian for dungeon runs, I skinned them with dungeon skins so visually I know which is which. Could do that / something similar here.

I’d like to see build slots personally so I could swap between presets without having to change everything manually.

I’ve put off trying to complete that last mission again after getting to the updrafts twice and then not being able to get them to lift me. It’s a lot of work to get to that point and I’m not sure I want to keep trying something that isn’t working for lots of people.

I had been hearing about Outside buffs a lot so went to the gym they were being sold at. I’m now 30 gold a month worse off plus they expect you to train there after work every day.

Also pet management is a nightmare, I won a goldfish mini and it died about an hour after I’d spent loads of gold on housing and food, I got given a dog mini to test and it ate my rabbit mini and I had to return it and buy new rabbit minis. Support were less than supportive about doing a rollback. Apparently it would affect causality and reality, whatever they are.

And some of the worst gold spam I’ve ever seen. You can buy commemorative 2 gold piece coins in a commemorative box and it costs 5 gold. And worse, buying one signs you up for a monthly service where they send you more coins each month for some kind of collection and each one costs substantially more than it’s worth.

But I’m not stupid, I’m putting all my money in gems. A company called de beers has a savings scheme and who wouldn’t trust a company with beer in their name? Ikr!

I also found a way to make money. One of the local vendors has reduced the price of many of their items so I’ve pretty much cornered the market in butter and slabs of poultry meat. Soon as they run out of stock I’m going to sell it all back to them at a profit. You should all check your own local vendors to see if you can do the same.

AH/TP – same difference to me, the mechanics may be different but the end result is the same, there is a cartel and it is wealthy enough to buy everything as it has been playing the economic mini-game whilst everyone else was playing the actual game.

I am being devils advocate here, I myself don’t believe the market is a separatable mini-game or that you are hurting any other part of the game with trading activity.

The Trading Post is so dynamic, that it’s been proven next to impossible for any one person or group of people to effectively manipulate anything.

I’ve seen this said in every game I’ve ever played and then someone reveals that actually they were part of a cartel doing just this thing and that they’ve accumulated enough money to be able to buy the whole auction house.

Next to impossible is meaningless.
Proving something to be next to impossible is therefore even less meaningful.

If I was on the same time as you I’d run HotW as I enjoy it. I like all the dungeons except Arah and CoE and even those I’d do if it meant making up the numbers.

You still get dungeon tokens from completing a dungeon which to my mind means exotics to throw in the MF to make exotics I can sell on the TP, I’m sure other people feel the same.

Claiming that exotic is cheap and Ascended is somehow really expensive when exotics are either tons of farming for karma or a chunk of gold (depending on the stat you want) from the TP. Ascended is what.. wood, ore, emp fragments, bloodstone dust.. what there has cost you loads of money?

There are guilds on NA servers, probably the same on EU servers who regularly run achievement maps. Join one, listen in on teamspeak, get the achievements.

- it is the expansion for the game they are playing, after all, you’d think people would want to get it.

Join a party to reduce the chance of crashing / dc’ing and losing the map you were on.

I often party people lfg for that reason. Don’t have to play with them or talk to them, I’m just providing a layer of security during an event.

It can be grieving, npcs on top of chests that you then can’t open is annoying

Whatever excuses we make, it’s still ultimately ridiculous that information is being posted in different places. I’m fine with devs posting on reddit but they should also post it somewhere internally for the comms lead to post it here for them.

Yeah seriously.. fix this. Any and all official information and reports and suggestions should come to the official forums. You go to reddit to complain (for instance) and see an ad for an alternative game.. you just lost a player.

I’d honestly not bother.
in an hour and a half I got over once, to get rick rolled by the snowball.
Maybe into the middle 6 times, 5 of which the presents exploded and ruined that.
The rest.. almost into the middle another 10 times but ran out of health despite being pretty quick.
And then fall to doom all the other times.

This is either fun or not and when it isn’t.. it’s probably not going to be.

Map chat is essentially a public area where you don’t have to talk about non-game stuff.
People who don’t like it can report you and you can get banned.

Original endmap gathering is a nice source of mats and / or cash and / or exotic armour.
So that’s primarily Cursed Shore but also Malchor’s Leap and Straits of Devastation.

And for HoT maps, they’re all really endgame but if you don’t have HoT then it’s worth at least working out what Silverwastes is and does.

There are a bunch of “i’m bored… wonder if a collection will kill some time” type ideas, things like map completion and ultimately world completion as well as the collections that lead to Princess and Mawdrey or just doing all the jumping puzzles. It’s goals that keep you going.

Playing the market – figure out what is worth more than the mats it takes to create it and then craft that thing, Berserker and Assassin weapons for instance.

Working towards an Ascended build.. check out a build site like metabattle.com for builds and dulfy.net for tutorials and skins and see what you want to build and how best to achieve it.

And I’m a big fan of what Vukorep says, grab a toon and do something that challenges you, just for fun.

For me the journey is awesome but it doesn’t stop at 80 by any means. 80 just means you can kill level 80+ mobs in the level 80 areas, doesn’t mean you’re too important to chop down that level 5 tree.

There are other build sites, I just like this one.

There is a heavy lean towards zerker (exotic zerker gear at orr temples for karma) and 2 gold each runes and 20 gold each sigils but I’ve found the cheaper variants to be absolutely fine for soloing around.

I suspect a bunch are second/third/etc accounts who can run in and hit once or twice, die and collect their reward later once the main account rotates through them.

Could just be really bad/lazy players tho.

You could just kick everyone who doesn’t read the MOTD.. you don’t need those guys anyway.

You apply a code to an account, if it’s valid it will upgrade your account. WHERE your account is, is a separate choice you make I’d have thought.

Chill.. I got a new phone recently and yesterday got round to asking support to unlink the authenticator, figured it may take a few days but who cares, wasn’t causing me any problems..

Couple of hours later, it was unlinked, I was emailed and I’d reinstalled it on my phone.

I find it useful, if you see a message like that to just post after it in map chat “not this old scam again”. I’ve not bothered reporting the person saying it so far, I figure it’s more valuable to educate the map.

I wouldn’t agree with “likely to get kicked” but I would ask what you think you are bringing to the dungeon run when you turn up with a necro or ranger. Not in a hostile manner.. maybe it’s your only toon but if you already know you’re most likely going to be not wanted.. why bring it?

I join tons of runs so I prefer speedy ones so I can get round as many as possible. Doesn’t really bother me that you turn up on your level 41 ele or a necro or a ranger or a thief (appreciate thieves in CM) but I main a guardian and would be unlikely to join a team of rangers/ele’s, I’d just wait for another team that was more war/guard heavy. I never join a LFG advertising for zerker or gear checks, I never kick anyone to form a specific team, I do state 80s exp when I start my own.

I find this and other similar claims extremely unlikely. Since last week I’ve run 14 CoFs, none of them were zerker only, we didn’t kick anyone because of lack of experience.
Every week I run P1 and P2 daily, all advertised through the LFG tool, never any problems.

There’s like 0.01% of the population that come onto forums, of those this topic has both pro and con viewpoints on dungeon running.

I’ve been joining and leading dungeon runs since beta and of course there have been memorable runs for both good and bad reasons but generally a pug run is really vanilla, most people get round most of the time in a good time.
If someone gets lost (happens to me all the time in AC runs..) someone goes back for them.
I was on one pug that spent ten minutes getting up that one bit in CoF P3 once.. and nobody complained, it was actually funny it got so silly. Equally the bit before it.. the defend.. I once spent 5 minutes on that and everyone gave up because we simply couldn’t do it. I went back in with a different team and did it with no problems, no deaths.

tl;dr there really isn’t that much to complain about in my experience. If you suck or your experience sucks, there is actually a lot of valuable advice in this thread on how to have a good time.

If you’re not part of a guild (looks at name of game.. shrugs) you could be grouped when you entered the map.

The Orr temples do need to be cleaned before the vendors will sell you stuff but whilst it takes a few people to do that, they are open world and do not require being in a team. I’ve seen the LFG tool used to locate clean temples.

And I’d second the point about getting matching sigils and runes. Getting all your gear to 80 and rare or higher is important but so are the upgrades. Berserker temple gear with soldier stat upgrades improved my Guardians survivability a lot.

There could be a couple of ways to make this simpler however.
Rather than having to type "hall of.. "etc.. why not also have a short code for this item? So instead of having to type "hall of.. "etc it would also accept “a1d5e”

Or maybe the option to disable it in your options. To avoid people disabling it and regretting it later, it could be an ironically long phrase that you have to type in:
“I want to disable the feature which requires you to type in the name of the item you want to delete and I give up my right to complain when I mess up at some future date”
