Times have changed, the game has changed. The game now shoves so many items at you that playing without full 20 slots(100 total slots) or full bag slots unlocked is not bearable.

I run 9 toons, none have full 100 slots, not a single one. Quite a few don’t even have all the bag slots unlocked. So this isn’t true.

If you’d been playing with so much loot for the last three years why haven’t you a) bought gems with gold and then bought bag slots.. b) spent some rl money to buy bag slots.

I’m just not seeing the issue. I salvage nearly everything after a meta next to a vendor and sell junk/runes/sigils etc. I drop rares or interesting things in guild (press g, drop off, press g.. back where you started) and deposit all mats on a regular basis. Totally bearable. And the solution if you’re not finding this is just to buy bag slots with all that loot you’ve mentioned.

I don’t think there are very many skins with the same name and skin but come in different weights. Some Living Story skins come to mind; maybe some Aquabreathers….

The Cultural Armor Achievement wouldn’t care if you didn’t have the skin unlocked in a different weight if that Tier’s unique (as in Head, Shoulders, Chest, etc.) was already unlocked.

I’m at the dungeon vendor.
If I buy the first Forgeman Mask in the list with SE tokens (topical as it’s the dailies) it unlocks all the Forgeman Masks. If I want to unlock a second helmet, I need to pick the Forgeman Headguard.
So I had the window open and I was just buying my way down the list, I’d easily see a few locked and then come to the ones that were already unlocked.
That’s what I was thinking of. Just had a look at the cultural skins and they are all named differently / weight so you’d have to pay a bit more attention to buying just (for instance) the first 6 in each tier.

Doesn’t all unlockable gear work like this?
You wouldn’t buy a light / medium / heavy bandit helm, they all have the same name just different weights. You would instead buy raiders helm but again only in one weight. To unlock a third helm you’d buy cavalier’s helm. In one weight.
When you are at the vendor you can see that things are unlocked, if you are trying to add skins, you wouldn’t buy the unlocked ones.

the hero challenges in Heart of Thorns areas would be possible for most players to do without a group

But they are. Ignoring the fact that I’d like more group content, not less and that you are on maps full of people with the same goals who you could just team up with to achieve those goals.. they are mostly soloable.

unreasonably hard to solo content, which no-one who has done it before will join a group to complete, because there’s no incentive to.

So stop soloing? What are you stuck on? Have you tried : watching a video (dulfy or youtube), getting a better build (metabattle), asking in chat (map/guild, LFG).
Nobody will help you because there’s no incentive? You must have landed on a really horrible map as I see players helping players all the time. Also I have many alts, they haven’t all done it before and would be happy to have help with things whilst also helping out another player.

Disparity Between Ascended Crafting Materials

We seem to be arguing about whether it’s right that metal armour requires less metal than leather armour, in a fantasy game. Because it doesn’t makes sense that my leather armour takes 4 leather squares which are made up of 3 leather patches when my metal armour only takes 2 metals plates made from 2 metal ore. Right?

Well ignoring all the ridiculousness of even discussing this.. my leather armour wearer says it’s to protect her assets. She tried wearing some leather armour with less mats used and ended up with an arrow to the knee and was in hospital for 2 weeks. For her sake, please maintain the current standard of gear.

As for “you can farm ancient wood”.. well yes you can, if you are 80. Honestly these threads about different level mats all have this level 80 focus. If you are level 50 you can’t harvest ancient wood and ori, you are forced to farm leather and seasoned wood and iron. FORCED I tell ya.

No idea why you think it’s a mark of shame to say something is hard. I beat Doom on hard would be a good thing to say. My opinion on raids is if you want to do them, get a raiding build and join a raiding guild. I’d rather make the hard content easier for myself but you may prefer not to do that.

it’s a vicious cycle.

The way to do it is to have multiple toons in HoT. Think you said you don’t but that would be a good way to learn the map and get the XP you need. The other way is not to run across to the exit but just up to Jaka Itzel and do events there for XP. Then run over for a mastery point and then go to Faren’s and do events there.
Unlock the map in chunks, same as you will need to do for TD.

I play as General Health..9678 in-game for anyone who wants to play in VB for the next week or so, I really need to build up my airship currency for weapons so I’d be happy to kill two birds with one stone.

You don’t need gold on any of the masteries if I’m looking at it right in order to max out your masteries. You can get gold on a couple without trying (drone race, beetle feast) which means there’s some you don’t even need to do like sanctum scramble or ley-line run if you don’t want to.

The idea of simply prolonging leveling solves nothing in my opinion. And, it actually diminishes possibilities for an actual end-game.

I don’t get how any of that makes any sense.
Diminishes the possibilities of an actual end-game?
MMO’s don’t have end game, just things you can do when you reach an area or level cap.
Those places are made possible by them being at the end of something and this is the same for I think any game that isn’t just a thought exercise.

bank expansion is essential for gathering and storage of materials needed for crafting. One bank slot and 250 material storage is hardly enough for materials needed to level in crafting

And yet, when the game launched EVERY SINGLE PLAYER managed.
And I bet the majority are still managing.

If you feel something is really that essential and given there’s no monthly sub you should buy it with rl cash. It’s also still possible to use in-game gold. If you’re playing enough to be gathering and crafting enough to need expanders, you should be earning enough to pay for it with in-game gold. Can’t really have it both ways.

Again I’d ask how much of an issue it is tho. There may be some people in wvw who have some stats you don’t have. You may or may not meet them whilst roaming. You may or may not be good enough to beat them and / or your class may or may not be able to beat them. If you had those sigils or if they had those sigils would it really make that much difference?

If the answer is omg yes it would.. then why don’t you raid to get them?
I get that maybe they shouldn’t be locked behind a raid but being really pragmatic, they are.. can’t you just raid and get them?

But watching a video or reading a guide won’t stop HoT from being what it is.

Obviously. It will help you get where you need to go however. Seeing a puny Asura mesmer bobbing round the whole map getting map complete should put things into perspective.

For some people, it will still be obnoxious and difficult.

Who are these people? Did they look at the guides I keep banging on about? Why are you talking for other people you don’t know? You can say “it is too hard” about anything, I can’t cook French food, it’s obnoxious and difficult.

Those of us who may not be super-skilled or have the best toons still want to experience the expansion material and actually play through the story.

Fortunately you can as HoT isn’t that hard AND got a nerf in April. I’m not super-skilled. I run one of each profession, all elite, in full berserker gear. I’ve got all HoT maps complete on four of them and am working the rest through, a map at a time. I have a habit of standing still and pressing 1 to kill things. I often mis-time my rooted attack so I’m stood in the big orange circle when it hits. I often hit dodge AFTER I’ve been run over by something. I seem to be doing ok.

But it’s hard when some of us hit very debilitating road blocks in overly convoluted maps with ridiculous enemies (mushrooms, anyone? WTH is wrong with those?!). I don’t like feeling that I must “learn to play” or else just drop the expansion entirely.

If you’ve already decided it’s too hard and you can’t play it then you have already made up your mind. I don’t know what you think is being expected of you when you are told to learn to play but I’ll make the same suggestion I keep making.. watch a video of the maps being completed and stop thinking they’re too hard for you. There are a few people on the forums (and more in-game) who will help you get round a map or to somewhere in a map. Can’t make you enjoy the game but the offer of help is there if you want it. And I’m just saying.. when I play in HoT maps I have the interactive mmorpg-life map open on my second screen with dulfy.net in a second tab on that screen. I always know where I’m going and how to get there.

I think that’s bad design that you must look at guides to know where you’re supposed to go.

I don’t need to look at guides, you do. You have two choices, look at a video because you are stuck or complain on the forums. One helps you get round those maps you are stuck on, the other does not.

Hell, most games I use guides to get all the extra, fun things

But you won’t do that here? You just sound like you’re being difficult now, you know what guides are for but would rather just complain on the forums?

once I’ve exhausted my attempts to find/collect/do them on my own.

So you even know WHEN to use guides which is once something has beaten you and before you get so frustrated you can’t cope. And again you’re arguing against using them.

Some people, however, just like to play their game rather than work it through researching how to get to every location (e.g., hero points). Watching videos to play a video game?

Some people like to complain they can’t play the game because they can’t get round. To them I’d suggest watch a video.

Watching videos to play a video game? Well yeah.. I don’t know why you question that. When people get in the car they put on their sat nav or get out a map. When learning a language you get a dictionary and thesaurus. When a new game comes out you watch the trailer. When you want to know what reviewers think you watch the video they made. When you want to know what a game plays like you watch.. well the video. I guess I’m saying people make videos of videos games that people watch.

I loved exploring TD, it was fun to fall down a massive hole into a new place the turned out to be the main lane down to the confluence waypoint. It was a bit annoying to go round in the same circle ten times trying to get to a hero point. Jump over to dulfy and watch the video. Is that not what people do? I find it weird that rather than doing that someone would come on the forums and demand anet make the map easier. But maybe I’ve got it wrong.

playing gw2 meta events is 40% fighting, 10% standing around, and 50% opening chests, salvaging, depositing materials, selling on TP.

next xpac, GW2: Inventory Manager of Tyria

If you’re spending that long doing inventory management, you’re doing it wrong.
Stand next to a vendor.
Click the option to show rarity on items, salvage all blues and greens.
Deposit all mats.
Open bags – don’t open so many you overfill your inventory.
Salvage all blues and greens.
Deposit all mats.
Sell junk at the vendor, sell all minor runes / sigils etc
Repeat until you’ve opened everything, sold everything you don’t want.

You’re now just left with rares/exotics. I dump them in my bank until I’ve stockpiled a few then do a mass salvage with the silver-o-matic and sell the ecto as it’s worth more than the rares. Takes a couple of minutes extra.
Press g to do this in your guildhall and combine it with guild node salvaging, refreshing guild tavern boosts and buying stuff with commendation from the trader.

Weird thing to believe but ok..
We call “gating of rewards behind specific content” – rewards and achievements.
Do you want dungeon tokens from anywhere but dungeons? That would be weird, right.
Airship parts from Harathi Hinterlands moas?
I’m going to assume you want legendary gear but don’t want to raid because you feel it’s too hard for some reason. Might be wrong about your needs but raids aren’t that hard. Join a guild that does training and clearing and usually as long as you have exotic or higher, some kind of voice comms and a raid build from metabattle you’ll be able to get on raids.

I thought you could get them from the story as achievements.
So in both cases (trailblazers and vipers) there was a way to get them without raiding.
Might be wrong, neither are things I’ve cared to chase as I PvE berserker on everything but I thought that was the case.

This isn’t to deny there’s an issue. Both are locked out of being wvw drops and if that’s all you do then you can’t have those things. At the same time.. neither does anyone else in wvw if everyone feels the same. So you’re all at least in the same boat.

Okay, so what is the best for XP? The storyline I do because its fun and doesn’t take time

Me too. It does slows you down, you’d get more XP by popping a booster and running round the open world but you’d miss out on the fun of the story so do what you want to do most.

For exploration, if you don’t have everywhere open yet, consider going to LA and using the Asura gates to get to the major cities and from there, unlock the other areas.

Gather everything, it’s great XP and you get mats you can use or sell. Just keep an eye on the level of your gathering tools, higher maps need higher tools.
Crafting is nice XP, use a guide to maximise your time and minimise the cost.

Make sure you have some form of XP boost, food or guild boosts will do.
If you’re not aware what world bosses are, have a look at the timer site on dulfy.net and see which ones you can get to. If they are your level, make sure you have the closest WP to each of them and do them daily.

Why gear drops exist at all?

repurpose them into craftable gear, and leave only special rewards like end track chests?

I do repurpose all my drops into craftable gear.
Salvage unwanted gear, deposit as mats, convert mats to crafting items at crafting station, combine crafting items to make new gear, sell new gear on market, profit!

Please leave my unwanted gear alone, I want it.

Silver Doubloons

My answer would be to go grind something else. Sell that something else. Buy doubloons with the money. I don’t go out of my way to get any particular t6 mat but I’ve always got multiples of blood, scales, sacs etc. and I think I have the same 1 doubloon in my inventory that I’ve had all year. Maybe I have 2. If I was saving up for something with doubloons I wouldn’t try and collect them.

No different to players wanting to craft ascended gear who might have already accumulated all the mats however?
If you are accumulating mats, you should have been doing the daily gate at the same time so by the time you have enough mats, you already a decent chunk of the way (if not all the way) to having this done.

I’d agree with a whole bunch of points but none of those would make me leave.
If you’re playing something else then awesome, gw2 is meant to be a game you can “complete” and come back to when you feel like it.

Worst is probably the baby raptors that just roam and get 1 shotted in groups.

Heh, you’d be surprised at how many people this is the opposite for.

mis-guided bandits trying to score loot from the airship crashes

Actually are there any non-mordrem enemies in VB? Not sure how bandits would end up in the jungle if the only way in is via pact-controlled airships but I do like the idea.

Everything sells like hotcakes in the gem store, why would the devs put effort into a complex keyring when they can just sell a hat or a dagger for many times the return on the investment..
Also it shouldn’t be a gem shop item, it’s such a huge QoL issue it should be in-game for everyone.

Drop gear in your bank to free up your bags. Or stick it on the TP, sell it to a vendor or salvage it. Or create a new character to act as a mule and transfer it to them.

What you describe is what I’d call “levelling”. if you want to fast level, ignore the story as it slows you down. Pop XP boosters and go do stuff that gets you the most XP, whatever it is that you like doing best. If you can get to a level 80 area at level 70, joining a zerg will get you some safe XP for instance.

In terms of gear and traits, until you are 80 just equip what drops and what you want to try out. When you hit 80 or if you want to see what the meta recommends for each game type, look at metabattle.com

more weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

General Health.9678

It would probably be pointless ultimately due to balance and theme.
If engineers had swords for instance, half the players wouldn’t use them as engineers aren’t a sword class.
The half that did use them would just compare them to other sword classes and to the other engineer weapons and every other thread would be about how they’re over powered or underpowered and what could be done about it.

That’s not to say we should never get new things, scrapper got hammer and that’s the perfect time to do it, with what is essentially a new build given the new scrapper elite trait line allowing you to do stuff to the new scrapper elite weapon.

So in actual fact gated behind an elite my be exactly the right way to introduce the new stuff which will leave the core builds where they are, allowing (re)balancing to take place with known variables.

Please no more zones like Tangled Depths

I don’t enjoy Tangled Depths at all. I want to be able to look at my map, head towards an objective, and actually get there.

You can do that on nearly every other map. TD requires a bit of thought because as you say you head towards something and end up somewhere completely different. What I do now is look at Dulfy.net and then head towards an objective using the path shown on there. That way I actually get there and don’t feel frustrated.

Tangled Depths is just frustrating trash.

See above to remove the frustration, it’s a million miles from being trash. It’s got some absolutely amazing experiences if you have the masteries to experience it.

Sure, you can complete it all slowly circling around like a blind idiot in a haunted house, but I would say it is by far the least fun I’ve ever had in any map in the game.

I think that’s a shame but I totally understand your position. I love exploring so for me it was a joy to open the map. It didn’t get me any vistas and mastery points doing that, random exploration is unlikely to get you to somewhere designed to be a bit hard to gt to. But for that.. I used dulfys videos and via a combination of personal exploration and being shown around by someone who knows what they’re doing.. get map complete and all the secrets in no time.

I’m absolutely no expert but I’m happy to show people round TD. My advice apart from checking out youtube and dulfy.. is to do the map in bits. From the start just head towards confluence waypoint (hint don’t run straight there.. go left and down into nuhoch lane) and from there pick up scar. Do the scar corner. Head up to rata novus, do stuff there. Open the map in bits. Make sure you do the meta to get large chunks open safely. If you’re doing the meta, get there a bit early.

Problem is that the nature of events makes the map frustrating. It’s easy to arrive late for an event.I just wish waypoints were account bound.

That could also describe going to Orr for the first time and seeing “Grenth starting” or “Defend Arah”.

It’s also easy to arrive on time or even early as there are timer sites so it’s just as easy to NOT arrive late. If you aren’t aware that there are timer sites.. google for one.

Orr is also more rewarding.

Absolutely not. A single run of the AB meta will net you a bunch of rares. I took two toons round AB for map complete at the weekend, did several metas whilst I was there anyway, converted it all to ecto and made a lovely profit. Orr does not offer loot at that level for the time spent. And that’s outside the multi-AB thing which I don’t do but accidentally ended up doing when I left the squad I was in at the end of a run and joined a new squad to do a fresh run and they were on a different map so I looted twice.
And then of course there are all the new shinies that are HoT only like chak weapons, auric weapons, plated weapons. Orr didn’t get new rewards.

But why would anet care about the price or the steadiness of the supply? And by supply you mean made available for purchase on the TP of course because as we saw with mystic coins there is a decent supply but people were just hoarding them.

Confused about "sale" on Gem Store..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

“tickets will be going on sale in 3 days”
This doesn’t imply a discounted price just that an item will be available for purchase.

“house for sale”
This doesn’t imply a discount either, just that an item is purchasable.

However when you mix and match discounted and just available items it looks like an attempt to deceive.
