Low skilled player doesn’t know how to rotate………..hence, low skill.
What I said is to just out rotate the zerg ball. They don’t defend which makes it easy. Most of the time if you are loosing to a zerg ball it’s because your team comp isn’t nearly as good as theirs. Their comp will murder yours and then the ball starts rolling. Only option with a crap team comp vs a good one is to be faster and out rotate. You won’t beat them head on (unless they are horrible).

As I say, unless you PvE you’ll always want Chill of Death with Axe instead of Axe Training.

Power Necro’s strenght is that massive burst against low armor targets. Rending Claws+double sigil proc+Chill of Death+one LB is already a dead thief.

Depends on the player. You can always run a focus and use that in place. Then you have CoD every 18 seconds which hits for 3-4.5k with 3 boons and also another 4% damage by Focus 4 first for all your other spells. All in players choice on their play style/ players you are up against.

You said axe is more, when it is actually equal, that’s why it isn’t accurate.

It’s equal? Stop doing the math in your head, because it isn’t helping your argument. Grab a calculator if need. 1111 is NOT 10% more than 1048. Let me help you 1048 * .10=104.8 +1048= 1152.8 which is GREATER than and not equal to 1111. Once again, that damage in Axe is higher with mastery.

Well we are lacking a lot of things in that aspect but LB rangers are not that bad. One solution is to double dodge roll at them. This will put you within 600-300 range depending on how far they started away, while avoiding their opening burst. This is of coarse if you are not using our fancy pull utility. If you need to double dodge roll at him, just go into DS and then LB, LB, LB dead..They are super squish and 3 LB’s will kill them.

I am going to try and use spectral grasp now. Double dodging is no option because I do not want to waste them for just distance closing.

However I still think we need to have at least a bit of damage mitigation for projectiles.

I understand the need to not want to waste them. In a 1v1…go ahead and waste away, because the first burst is all u need to dodge lol..Once the gap is closed they are dead.
In all honesty, in a 1v1 as you are walking up, that is the PERFECT counter; because who ever expects you to double dodge roll

1v1 I do it and it works 100% of the time. They blow their knockdown and their rapid fire on nothingness & then you shrek em. Still got chains, fear, etc if need too; and after 1 of those you dodges are back. Element of surprise! YA I JUST DOUBLE DODGE ROLLED YOU FOOL! Didn’t see that comin, did ya?

Leaderboard's refresh time?

It attempts to take a snapshot every hour. Sometimes it’s busy and doesn’t get one done until a bit later. It’s also not exactly an hour so they stagger a bit and don’t all try to do it at once.

Can you do something like ingame leaderboards with instant updates, or is this currently impossible?
I feel like having the leaderboards not in the game but on a webpage makes them feel not right.
:D a lot of feelings here but I think everyone would like an ingame version of the leaderboards with maybe a number representation of your rank next to your name if you toggle it on/off.

That would be cool. Something just as simple as putting your rank # under you MF% on the equipment page or something.

Losing 500—0 or 500—150 tends to make you feel like a failure who sucks at playing.

Being told the reality that you were actually up against much stronger players tends to make you feel better. And the game is then more enjoyable and fun.

Even in pro football, the 16th ranked team knows what they are up against going against the #1 ranked team. A loss doesn’t sting as badly since it is likely, but a win would be amazing for them.

2 minutes into the match will tell you if they are better than you or not. Just like in football, the lesser team can still win. All you have to do is outplay & out rotate. I have won pug matches from completely out rotating the enemy team while they zergfest because they were so much better. Highest score on my team was 60 when they were all over 300. In a fighting aspect they were way better (due to comp) but they didn’t know how to rotate very well. Our team comp was crap compared to theirs. You just got to play on their weaknesses.

If you want to give another reason for players (that don’t care about dishonor) to leave a match…..show them their chances of winning is 10%.

You can’t “nerf” something that was not mean to be there. That is called a fix. The reason all your skills get reset on start is to be on the same plain. You can still get the 20% at the start just like other classes pre-buffing as you stated. You will then be on CD for that skill just like every other class that used theirs. That is what now makes it even. If they use a skill it is then on CD…and now, so will yours. Wait for match to start…pop it real quick and there is your money. You can then walk in with more LF and be on CD. It’s only 40 seconds CD so you will get it back shortly into the fight as it takes 20 sec to get to a point anyway. No other class could use a skill and keep the benefits of it without using a CD at start of the match.

As much as I dislike playing against mesmers I just can’t think that they are OP. I certainly don’t know the “ins and outs” of the class, I tried to play one, but didn’t much care for it. Much of my problem is finding the right one to target and kill, although I am getting better at it. But I have beaten more then a few, and have lost to more then I care to admit. They are by no means unbeatable, and largely remain more of an irritation, but deadly if ignored completely.

First step, learning to locate. Then can you worry about their attacks and rotations. Location is key and is very easy to spot. Clones only run forward. They do not strafe, back step, dodge roll,, rotate or cast spells other than what the rest of them are casting. An irritation is definitely more of a correct word for it. Practice makes perfect!

ooo I was not aware of that. I’ll look for it. I’ve also noticed that the original will have any signets on them whereas the clones won’t. That has helped me quite a bit. But yeah, practice makes perfect.

Just watch some Mesmer videos and obviously you will be watching the POV of the player. You can then see how much different they are and things to look for. If 4 Mesmer (clones) are standing there casting and 1 is standing doing nothing, that’s your guy too. Clones are brainless AI that all follow the exact same pattern. They don’t jump or weave baskets either. I think I did see a couple clones playing patty cake once but that could have just been in my head.

Also as you said about the signets is correct. Clones WILL NOT have the same buffs/ conditions as the real player.

In all honesty it is REALLY hard to carry a team of baddies in any class lol. At the end of the day you are still 1. Mainly, to be able to carry you need to be able to 1v1 and 2v1 most of the time. You need this because, most likely you will have to take a point (normally far) and hold it by yourself to keep the score ticking upward. They will never give you DS at the start back. It was never suppose to be there in the beginning. I don’t feel it is hard to gain LF at the begging of the match at all. Just a couple attacks away from being half full. Would it be nice…hell ya lol. That is why they took it away, because no other class gets a bonus to their “special” abilities at the start. We have one of the highest health pools in game, they won’t give you 20% more just for showing up. That is basically the logic behind it all. If we start Necro with 20% LF at beginning, then every gets a 20% health bonus at start. Then what would the difference be?

Practice, Practice, Practice.
This isn’t something you will be great at in just a weeks time. Time and effort required. Also depends on the class/ spec you choose on how long this will take. Some are a lot higher skill cap than others and will take 4 times as long to get it down and learn all the counters for the enemy classes that run in PvP.

I’ve been playing PvP for over a year. And I’m finally to the point of saying enough. Enough of mesmers killing me all the time. Enough of mesmers taking two or three players to kill. Enough of losing time and time again to teams w/ stealth player
superiority.

There already is a counter category that tracks how many kills a particular account has. What needs to happen is this. The Devs NEED to create a “killed” tracker. There needs to be a counter that tracks each and every “death” in PvP. By toon type category. Then a breakdown should be done in regards to percentages and frequency.

Then after a month the results need to be analyzed and ideally, published for general consumption. I am SICK AND TIRED of people saying that “oh, look at the playoff boards. You don’t see any mesmers there…” What MY individual experience tells me is that neither my warrior, my engineer, OR my necro can routinely KILL a Mesmer.

In FACT, I almost NEVER kill a Mesmer by myself. Unlike warriors or guardians, which my eng routinely eats for breakfast. Unlike rangers, necros, engs and thieves. Mesmers are the one class that in PvP that I perceive to be bulletproof.

So this will not only settle the argument of Mesmer invincibility once and for all, BUT should ALSO should show that STEALTH classes have an UNFAIR advantage in PvP.

Nuff said.

I am a Necro with 99 problems and a Mesmer ain’t 1. You do realize the like 4 LB’s on your necro will kill a Mesmer right( 2 if they glass)? How hard is that.

You need to learn the Mezmer class and Thief class, to figure out how to beat them. Simple as that. Find someone that plays them all the time and duel the crap out of them until you figure it out.

This was the worst “Hold my hand while I go potty” thread I have seen yet. You should have just created one asking for help and input……………..

It doesn’t matter if you can see them or not. Loosing is no fun? So if you won every single match you would be having fun? Fun is a challenging match, close score whether you come out on top or not, THAT is where it is fun. A perfect matchmaking system (If thousands of players in Q to choose from) would be 50% win chance for both sides. This would also mean, you will loose 50% of your matches. That IS the ideal system and what would make it the most fun. Not winning all the time. Besides if you just win all the time how will you ever get better? No challenge means no skill gain. On extremely close matches whether I win or not I have a smile on my face at the end.

I don’t think they should EVER show you the odds but that is my opinion. If they show you the score you need to get to, to do “better than expected”, you will have players just give up after that; because they already got their points secured. Then you have the same issue as before. You should never go into a match, look at the odds/ score required, and say well this sucks they paired us up against a much better team. Moral is then down and you WILL definitely play worse. Your team should go out the gate HAM, not knowing what lies ahead. If you get Rekt at the start, adjust to enemy team style and counter it. THAT is how you will do better; not by knowing what “the system” thinks your should do.

Mesmers...

End game is Tourney’s. Everything else is just a jumbled mess. If you need to learn to counter a class, stop trying to fix all your problems at once. Pick 1 class and master the counter then move on to the next. This will take some time but is the only way you will get it.

1st. Find a friend with that class or someone willing to help. Ask them how they get countered when they use those “troublesome” attacks. Duel them non stop 1v1 and work through it.

2nd. Go into unranked and seek those players out during battle and just non stop fight them until you get it figured out. If say, Mesmer is the first class you are trying to get your hands around, you should be gunning to find that player all through the match.

That other player might think your stupid for non stop attacking him only and loosing, but it will only be helping you figure it out.

But unranked has a less strict matching system, so you will still play people much more skilled than you in the less busy hours when the queues are less full. There are many blowouts there in off-peak hours.

True. Havn’t been in there but everyone I know that has, says it is a joke. Yes you wont have top LB players in there to worry about but the matching is so jacked in there, you will be out skilled more than using Ranked.

Chase is correct. The new leaderboards give you ranked points based on “skill” as well. At the end of the day it has to match 2 teams up and they know this wont be fair; but you can still get rank points by loosing if you play “better than expected”.

For instance, if the system assigns the enemy team a 80-100% chance to win and calculates the game should be a 200-500 match in the aspect, you just have to do better than the system thought you would. If you score say 200-500 everyone gets 1 pt for the leader boards…why? Because you played exactly how the system predicted and you “win”. If you end up beating them with these odds you could gain a bunch of points and they would loose a bunch of points. Not exact on the point system but just making examples here. If you score 400-500 with those odds you would actually gain more points of the leaderboards than the winners. This is because you played over the “set skill lvl” of your team and they didn’t live up to the system standards.

They created this system also so people don’t just give up when loosing. You can still gain points for loosing by playing better. If the system says the match should be a blowout and you score 100 points; you will gain points and they will loose some because they were fooling around since it was going to be an easy win. In order to ensure you get the max points possible you want everyone to play their hardest from start to finish.

If you look at some of the guys on pro teams who havn’t lost a match since leader board wipe, you will see them on the 4th…5th page. Why? Because maybe every match the system thought they should win 500-0 or 500-100 and the enemy team actually scored higher. Therefore they don’t get many win points because they played worse than the system thought they should.

I find necro terrible in soloQ.
It needs other members to babysit you , them knowing how to move as you wont catch up to anyone sneaking a decap AND with current matchmaking – what use does me killing a engie in 20s make , if we have a downed guy after 5-10s.

Good necros in coordinated team comp… okay to super great when against engies.

So idk, since patch i lose A LOT on necro, i win more on alts, but when i team up with guild im 19/20 so far.

Wow…need everyone else to “babysit” you? Are you for real? Speak for yourself if you feel you need to be “babysit”. Not being harsh, but Necro is higher skill cap and if you feel you are useless…you need more practice with the class.

You say necro does better when in team fights? What class doesn’t? 95% of 1v1’s and 60% 1v2’s I win. Have zero problems catching up to players and gap closing. You know just because they nerf one thing you can always adjust your style. Most people are hooked on their same old build and utilities. If one of those gets nerfed you just cash your chips in and say you are kitten now?

Part of being a great player is adjusting when changes are made or on the fly. I have ZERO problems sitting on point as a necro… Necro’s love to get beat on; the more damage you give to me, the more I give back.

Also in what you said about your team doing better when you play other classes… Well, certain classes have more synergy with others. That is why team comp is important. Necro and engi rolling together is one the of 2 best comps you can have paired up.

Seems like more time needs to be put in for practice and need to adjust your style a bit. I am not saying this in a mean way; just that I see too many people shelf their Necro after 1 change they don’t like. Adjust, adapt, win.

They said they won’t be released until the 16th (and will be wiped). My guess is they are just testing stuff and in the end, will be reset on the 16th anyway. Unless they changed their minds, that is what they said. I hope they don’t count because I have been screwing around solo Q’ing trying to gather data for them like they asked lol. Therefore I have a lot of losses.

How to improve courtyard

I love and hate courtyard, and here’s why:

Respawn issue aside, 5v5 (10 players) is just too big for TDM.

With 10 players at the same spot, the stomping and rezzing mechanics really start to take a back seat to just plain old aoe and cleave dmg. It’s much more viable in a 10 player skirmish to just burn people down instead of making yourself a vulnerable target by trying to stomp or rez.

No player can keep their eyes on 9 others at one time, or even all 5 of their opponents. Add in particle effects, aoe, cleave, mass stealth, AI, blinking, and shared boons, and you’ve got a big, happenstance, incomprehensible clusterphuck. 4-5 people can stunlock and focus down a player in 2-3 seconds with absolutely no recourse, and it’s even more frustrating when they do it from stealth.

I’d speculate that fights like this are a big part of the reason why people don’t vote for spirit watch much: that big mess right at the orb. And yet, people consistently vote for Courtyard in strong numbers: why? Because we’ve been clamoring for TDM since day one, and we’re sick of conquest.

Conquest is a mode that requires serious strategy, leadership, high-level play, and voip to be much more than just a bunch of random 1v2s, 2v3s, 3v4s, and 4v5s spread out across 3 points on a big map. It’s a game of running away when you’re outnumbered, and ganging up on those who don’t. At some point (day 1), I just wanted an even fight with everybody on the same page; not running across the map to decap far because they’re actually too afraid to engage, or bailing on the team to chase some pve gimmick.

And about making a bigger map for TDM: I don’t think it’s necessary. I feel it’ll just create the same uneven fights we get in conquest spread out all over the map, just without the nodes.

TL;DR : 2v2 and 3v3 TDMs are much more fun, shoutable, and comprehensible. 10 man brawls are not ideal with this game’s combat speed and mechanics. Embrace a more common lowest denominator with a mode that doesn’t require 5 people in voip being on the same page just to truly compete. With 2v2 and 3v3 TDM, simply kill the enemy while working with 1 or 2 teammates.

  • Perhaps you could flesh out TDM ques with these varying team sizes, and/or a couple more small maps.

Basically everything you said here is 10 players doesn’t work because people are too lazy to adjust their builds and comp to win. There are a couple classes with invul stomps…no need to take damage. If you aren’t running it on this map then you are running a selfish build. It’s all about getting the stomp & rezes off. Classes that don’t have “safe stomp” should cleave to keep enemy players from rezing. How is any of this different from a 4v4 at mid point 75% of the game? Rez, burn targets & stomp. Same exact mechanics besides there isn’t a point under your feet and allows you to fall back or push forward when need.

Basically, no: that’s not everything I said. Most people need to be talking about strategy rather than trying to focus on and change their whole build in the 90 seconds before courtyard starts anyway. And those 4v4s at mid 75% of the game? They’re generally clusterf’s too, and most games are decided by who wins the first big battle at mid anyhow, sending the opposing team scrambling to far or a pve gimmick. So you popped stability and invulnerability to stomp one guy? Too bad: mass stealth just happened. And each guy in the fight just multiplies the chaos. Again, tone it down to something more comprehensible, plz.

Well since I have only lost 1 match (due to not knowing the timer changed for match end), Yes a mist form stomp from our ele’s to stomp 1 guy. Since when can you invul stomp more than 1 person? lol. This is the hands down most effective stomp ingame besides a engi invul stomp. That’s 3 stomps and now it’s 2v5..gg. Mass invis..ok so we loose 1…now its 3v5. You change your mechanics according to the enemy comp/ play style…Can’t do the same thing every time. You sound like if 1 mass stealth goes off it’s game over. I have yet to see a team that doesn’t blow there mass stealth of the start to try to surprise bomb you. First fight is all fair game. If they were smart they WOULD save it for a couple quick rezes…yet to see that happen.

Changes to make this system GOOD

The one and only thing I have appreciated so far with this patch has been the ability to have some control over the map that is chosen, other than that, please put some of it back to what it was previously.

I agree completely. Along with the check marks next to party members I think it would be cool to see #’s on Map choices before choosing a map if some players have already voted.

Also I am waiting on a couple of guys to finish putting a team together. I am not sure if this would take a week…or 2? We would be happy to scrim your team at that point. I can let you know in game when we get settled in (if still interested at that point). We would mostly be “fresh” as a team and the synergy wouldn’t quit be up to par yet; but would probably still be a hell of a lot better than what you are facing now haha.

Crafting Stations may not be a good idea.

Op’s point can be addressed by simply putting the crafting far away from the TP like in Hoelbrak,

Real reason not to put in crafting is that the Queque pop up doesn’t pop over the crafting window which results in 9 angry players having to wait longer to start the match.

This doesn’t happen if it’s done right. There is a button to “Go to the Mists” and no reason for people to “Join Team Arena” to get in. Therefore no one in Q that doesn’t actually want to be there.

I do agree and not want crafting stations in the PVP lobby. Last thing I want is for it to become a PvE mecca. I would like to see a return of the Mystic forge though. I know that would still bring some people in for port but not nearly as much as crafting stations would. Some of us prefer to toss all those kitten greens in the forge instead of nuking them. I prefer the RNG over a bank full of mats

:) AS for all the posts I basically agree. If the rest of your team is trash, it doesn’t matter what class you are. As for ^^ this, that is correct. I have done this many times. Push far and hold. Will most likely start as 1v1’s, then move to 1v2’s. If you can hold those, then they will send 3. When they do that…your other 4 teammates will finally be able to beat the last 2 and push mid after.. I have done this many times (as Necro) and held far in 1v2’s while the other 4 struggled to beat 3 non stop at home. They can be carried but you got to be able to beat 2 others solo. This all falls on the enemy teams comp and who they will send at you. Obviously some 1v2’s are a hell of a lot easier than others, comp wise.

How to improve courtyard

I love and hate courtyard, and here’s why:

Respawn issue aside, 5v5 (10 players) is just too big for TDM.

With 10 players at the same spot, the stomping and rezzing mechanics really start to take a back seat to just plain old aoe and cleave dmg. It’s much more viable in a 10 player skirmish to just burn people down instead of making yourself a vulnerable target by trying to stomp or rez.

No player can keep their eyes on 9 others at one time, or even all 5 of their opponents. Add in particle effects, aoe, cleave, mass stealth, AI, blinking, and shared boons, and you’ve got a big, happenstance, incomprehensible clusterphuck. 4-5 people can stunlock and focus down a player in 2-3 seconds with absolutely no recourse, and it’s even more frustrating when they do it from stealth.

I’d speculate that fights like this are a big part of the reason why people don’t vote for spirit watch much: that big mess right at the orb. And yet, people consistently vote for Courtyard in strong numbers: why? Because we’ve been clamoring for TDM since day one, and we’re sick of conquest.

Conquest is a mode that requires serious strategy, leadership, high-level play, and voip to be much more than just a bunch of random 1v2s, 2v3s, 3v4s, and 4v5s spread out across 3 points on a big map. It’s a game of running away when you’re outnumbered, and ganging up on those who don’t. At some point (day 1), I just wanted an even fight with everybody on the same page; not running across the map to decap far because they’re actually too afraid to engage, or bailing on the team to chase some pve gimmick.

And about making a bigger map for TDM: I don’t think it’s necessary. I feel it’ll just create the same uneven fights we get in conquest spread out all over the map, just without the nodes.

TL;DR : 2v2 and 3v3 TDMs are much more fun, shoutable, and comprehensible. 10 man brawls are not ideal with this game’s combat speed and mechanics. Embrace a more common lowest denominator with a mode that doesn’t require 5 people in voip being on the same page just to truly compete. With 2v2 and 3v3 TDM, simply kill the enemy while working with 1 or 2 teammates.

  • Perhaps you could flesh out TDM ques with these varying team sizes, and/or a couple more small maps.

Basically everything you said here is 10 players doesn’t work because people are too lazy to adjust their builds and comp to win. There are a couple classes with invul stomps…no need to take damage. If you aren’t running it on this map then you are running a selfish build. It’s all about getting the stomp & rezes off. Classes that don’t have “safe stomp” should cleave to keep enemy players from rezing. How is any of this different from a 4v4 at mid point 75% of the game? Rez, burn targets & stomp. Same exact mechanics besides there isn’t a point under your feet and allows you to fall back or push forward when need; without having to worry about the point being taken.

1st. 5 min is waaaaaay to short. 10 min would be better but then why have it go to 500 points?
2nd. Respawn timer was a good idea (suggested by us so we could regroup), but 30 seconds?!?!!?! This is absolutely stupid. If you die right before the timer resets you then get kicked out of spawn alone before the other players are allowed to respawn 30 seconds later.

If you want to do 30 second respawn then don’t make the match 5 minutes long. Also don’t kick players out of the freaken spawn while waiting for the rest of the team to catch the next timer. Instead of having “If player in spawn for 15 seconds” Then “Teleport to said location”; try “If all 5 players in spawn for 15 seconds” Then “Teleport to said location”.

This hot fix was to help allow the teams to regroup but made it worse. If only 1 player dies and everyone else is fine…by the time it lets me respawn they are all dying and I then got to wait for them. That is 1 whole minute out of the fight in a 5 minute match? What a joke?

This is correct. The reward track came out for the Glove piece (when released). There is no new reward track for the new pieces (Wish there was).

This is interesting. Hybrid class is always a choice of the player. I have said since Sinister came out that the main classes that would make this OP is Double kit Condi Engi > P/P Teef > Condi Necro. Could be some nasty stuff in WvW.

Staff base attack damage is higher so switching to staff before using deathshroud you get a little boost in damage.

If you are using Axe Mastery that is the higher boost going into DS. 10% damage increase on Life Transfer and LB’s is a lot of extra damage.

How is Staff stronger for Death Shroud? Is there a trait that makes it so?

No there isn’t . Here is the order: Staff> Axe> Dagger (Without Mastery)
Axe> Staff >Dagger (With mastery)

Weapon strength
With Mastery: Axe > Staff >Dagger
Stats of weapons effecting DS LB:
Staff Strength: 985-1111
Axe Strength: 857-1048
Axe With Mastery Strength: 924-1152 (Lower bottom end than staff, Higher top end)
Dagger: 924-981

I don’t believe that’s all accurate. Staff is equal to axe with axe mastery in DS, not less. And I also believe that axe only affects skills 1-3 in DS, so life transfer will do less damage with traited axe than staff.

How can you not say that is accurate? Look at your weapons…the highest one will scale for the most damage. These are exact weapon stats …. Maybe it doesn’t scale with Life Transfer (I could have been wrong) but LB is the main focus anyway.

If you want to escape as a Necro in WvW, roll Norn.

So what you trying to say is to swap my Elite for a Norn Racial Elite with a 240s cd just for the leap/dash while other classes could equip any Elite Skill they prefer? Wow i’m speechless!

Well we are lacking a lot of things in that aspect but LB rangers are not that bad. One solution is to double dodge roll at them. This will put you within 600-300 range depending on how far they started away, while avoiding their opening burst. This is of coarse if you are not using our fancy pull utility. If you need to double dodge roll at him, just go into DS and then LB, LB, LB dead..They are super squish and 3 LB’s will kill them.

How are we now supposed to find out our PvP Rank? I queued today for 10 minutes and got no ranked queue pops. I’m Rank 52 and previously rated 320 on the Leaderboards.

Ladder rank? The beta ladder does not start until the 16th.

What time were you queuing?

Agree on this…were u Q’ing at 3 a.m? Longest I have waited since new system is 5 minutes and that’s because I had a full team. Solo Q’ing was max 2 min late at night.

I am having no problems with Q times…just the matchups. I was always a Team Q kind of guy (Even when rolling solo). The Solo Q players just seemed a lot more “incompetent” as to what they should be doing. That definitely shines right now because as soon as someone gets in and complains there is no Solo Q…That’s the guy that just goes willy nilly on the map and does nothing to help the team. Frustrating to have these players in Q with me. If solo players want to play selfish, I say give them back the SelfishQ. 50% of them seem to have no will to help out in a team aspect.

Q’ed with 4 people…5th pug mentioned he wanted SoloQ back. We told him our game plan and asked him to do certain things to help out in situations. He yelled “I WILL DO WHATEVER THE kitten I WANT”. The map basically proceeded as 4v5 because he was just a road warrior the whole time ( not a good one) and just got rekt in every 1v1 in the roads he engaged in.

Matchmaking Changes: 12/5

Just looking over the data for the last day. With the exception of Courtyard, which seems to get a lot of blowouts, increasing min potentials seems to have a caused decrease in end-game scores between teams. I think that’s a pretty safe metric to gauge the competitiveness of a match, does anyone have any thoughts on that?

I upped it by another 25, but I don’t feel it’s safe to go any further until we get something in to automatically drop it back down during off-peak hours.

When Q’ing with a team it seemed to have gotten a little better. Maybe 50% of the matches are decent matchups but still flawed. Solo Q’ing is still a joke. I am constantly being put into teams with new players; which then brings our average MMR up (from their standpoint) because of me. Then they just get rocked while I 1v2 non stop, no problem. In the end we loose badly because the new players have no idea what they are doing vs the opposite players with slightly more play time.

It seems when SoloQ’ing into they system it is trying to match up similar MMR’s but when it can’t find someone at their average it nabs a high lvl player to even it out…That is ZERO fun and extremely frustrating to high lvl players (Trying to carry 4 people on your back).

As for Courtyard…I wouldn’t take any of those statistics into consideration. I personally have only lost one match in there. The win goes to the smarter team every time. Builds and comps are set for normal maps and the team that is smart enough to adjust their build/ comp wins (most players won’t). The play style is more like small WvW roaming in the aspect of stacking, burning targets and rezing. Get that down and you are golden. Also I noticed a change last night, matches were ending quickly. I thought timer was on 15 min but seemed to end after about 5 min with only 150 points scored for both teams. Didn’t see a change on this so I will have to look next time I am in.

Well that escalated quickly. Basically I have never seen Worm used as an “escape” mechanism (it can be). I have seen it used like a “Mesmer portal” mechanism to be able to guard a point without actually being there. If you are going to PvP and on a team they might need you to use it if you don’t have a mesmer with portals. Maybe the team wants you to just kitten face and someone else will be the one porting back n forth.

Using worm as a porting device for point protection requires very careful placement. Unlike the Mesmer portal it can be destroyed without you even knowing someone is attacking it. At that point you are left with nothing. Hide the Worm!

Correct. While in “escape”, I know you are thinking of all the other classes; in the “easy mode” escapes they have. Necro is a completely different monster and play style. They pretty much hit it all on the head. Can also use Dager Imob/ Warhorn swarm to get away. DS + 5 Imob works great. Pop in / run / hit 5 and you are gone. I personally never use Worm just because I feel like I loose so much that I can have in another utility.

Just get a bit more practice in the class and you won’t be the one running away

Indeed, it will vary from playstyle to playstyle. As I’ve described above I use Axe as a part of my burst rotation. It’s roughly jumping out of DS one chain, UH and Claws, then back to Shroud or Dagger. In a period of 2-3 seconds I will get much better pressure from Axe than from Staff. I use NtD a lot, regular Power builds do not.

Of course the longer you remain in Axe weaponset, the worse and Staff has that advantage.

But based on my specific playstyle (mind me that I skipped that part, sorry), I just find Axe better for 1v1s. I also simply don’t 1v1 bunkers like Fire Field Warriors where Staff is better, my build plays very Mesmer-like and I focus on quick support and engagements.

I am fully aware of Axe’s capability, but the whole “Does more damage” or “is better” is in my humblest opinion so debatable…
The thing for me is that despite me trying to like Axe, I cannot utilize it… I miss the utility Staff provides, despite liking the insane burst Focus #4 followed by Axe #2 can have… Staff works better for me, and thus I “do more damage” with it…

That being said, I never said Axe was bad or does bad damage – I just stated why people prefer certain things over one another… I know a multitude of Necromancers who utilize Axe rather well…

All in all that is what I was saying..May have come out a bit wrong so, Mah bad. In a roaming situation u want damage and you want it fast. There is hundreds of people out there and if you take too long to kill, your 1v1/ 1v2 becomes greatly higher, quickly. Axe is just a “buffer” you nail right before going into DS and then coming back out (If they still alive). You never sit on you Axe skillz and you probably wouldn’t be sitting on your Staff skillz either, unless they port away out of range. Dagger does so much damage that you need to be there most of the time when not in DS.

In my experience, they are always dead in under 15 seconds unless they are Celest/ Bunker. Therefore you second weapon set (Axe or Staff) is only tapped on a couple of seconds. (For these couple of seconds I would rather do 10-15k damage then a fear and a chill…but that’s me). You rarely will see any Cele or Bunker build out roaming in the fields…they are with the zergs. Anyone else Roaming around will be in a full glass or pretty close spec.

Also by in the aspect of the OP post on roaming..using staff will give him no mobility because he can’t have a warhorn with his MH D/D setup. This is a big loss as well. I am just suggest best outcome for him. If he doesn’t want mobility then that is also his choice; but I personally would never drop my warhorn for roaming.

Last night seems slightly better but not entirely. Decided to YoloQ to see any changes and the first 3 matches I got stuck with new players and we got rocked. Next 10 matches were almost all blowouts besides 1 close match. One of these matches I walked in to our home point looking at 3 enemy players standing there (Theif, Ranger & Engi). I attacked and in under 15 seconds had em all downed and then spiked em all. Pretty sure that wouldn’t have happened with people “in my bracket”. They were awed at how awesome I was…lol? I should not be able to take down 3v1 in under 15 seconds (not to veteran players anyway). It seems to have got slightly better but I just feel it is still mashing randoms together really fast and ignore how long these people have played for. There is a TON of new people trying pvp due to this update and they are definitely getting scared off.

I never said Axe was greater than Dagger lol…Dagger 1 is far superior…Also why are you bringing PvE into this? He said he is roaming…aka WvW. So he will be in 1v1/ 1v2’s etc, where the axe is far more superior to staff. Axe2 is a face wrecker…you don’t Axe2 until his didges are used (which is fairly quickly if he wants to survive your wells and dagger AA). Also Axe2 does not require position as it tracks its target automatically. He can jump through hoops or run through you 4 times….you character will auto swivel and never loose track. You can easily use a focus for the boon strip which also gives you a 4% increase damage on #4 (that right before Axe2).

I am not ragging on staff users….but in a roaming situation…There is no way it can keep up with the Axe. You can still keep CoD if you want, for slightly less damage (which in a 1v1 will still be more than staff).

Also…you say after you Axe2, what do you do for 6 seconds? Whatever the kitten you want…DS? Switch and use dagger That Retal/ cripple to keep him in range for your dagger AA’s. Out of DS you should be 80% on dagger minimum. If you go something like Dagger —> Axe2 —>DS-—>Axe2—→Dagger…(he won’t last that long) but it is the best finisher. If the player doesn’t want to die while you are in death shroud he will use every block/ dodge he has. Pop out with an Axe2 that he can no longer do anything about and he will be dead. Fights normally don’t last over 10 seconds as a power necro…20 seconds if they got a lot of blocks or invuls.

I dont mind uploading a VOD from my Twitch channel to youtube if people would like that and find it easier. There is now a highlight of the whole broadcast on my channel if that helps. I know Anet will bring out there own VOD so dont want to encroach on that

Well it would be nice if someone did. I figured it would have been posted all over the place instantly, to get as much public attention as possible. Just like the horrible timed live stream though, it wasn’t thought over well on making it easy to view after the fact. (Not your fault). Maybe poke at em a bit since you got the inside edge, to see if they can hurry it along?

The coverage on the NA/EU site for the event however is terrible in comparison to China’s GW2 site. Where are the recaps, photos, interviews, etc? Can’t even watch a VoD on the GW2 main twitch channel…

This was a huge event and nothing even on the homepage today…. Where is the support for esports?

We are seriously lacking the enthusiasm from the people on this side of the world; that are suppose to update this stuff. Real sad when the only people trying to keep the e sports alive in the company are the shout casters. China’s been in the game 6 months and they seem to be doing it correctly. Maybe a “change in positions” is needed for who is responsible for all this.

Ah. That’s better, LOL. Well on that note, this has been brought up in a few posts this week and the Devs said that they will now be able to implement something to this effect and will look at it further. ie: Be able to view recent past matches with scores, stats etc. I would assume that a ^“MMR#” wouldn’t be too hard to that screen either.

I think this is a good feature. If you know your way around you can get in. If not it will make you get a little knowledge about your class first.

Secondly…what I don’t understand is, if you are an avid PvPer…do you not have hundreds of Tomes of Knowledge. Lol? This should not be a problem at all for any PvPer.

First of all…..If you do your research these maps are ONLY here until the 16th. Devs have said it countless times on the multiple threads on the same kitten subject….we are in a buffer mode right now where nothing is implemented in the new system. If you can’t hang in there for 2 weeks, you are very impatient.

Secondly. The whole point of the voting system is for each player to their own, to have a chance at the map they like. If players like to Win, of course they are going to select the map they think they can win on the best. If players don’t care if they win or loose, then they will select the map they think looks the prettiest..That’s the whole point of the voting system. What you are saying is you chose a map that the entire other team didn’t want to play. Maybe they should create a thread about the couple of people on the other team keep voting for stupid maps that they don’t like…..Sound familiar?

The maps will go back to normal when the matches actually start counting again…Winning or loosing right now is doing nothing for you anyway. If you can’t handle a 2 week curve ball during the transition then leave and come back in 2 weeks.

All in all you are probably right…The enemy team shouldn’t be allowed to vote for the map they want to win on. The game should recognize you as a God and only allow your team to vote for the map that you want to win on. That way you don’t have to come on the forums and complain that the Price is Right wheel picked their map instead….

This is definitely something we’re interested in doing with the new system. I’m imagining something liked dotabuff where you can see each match, score, duration, profession makeup, builds, etc.

Not sure if I am reading all this wrong but I think you are talking about 2 completely different things. I believe Evan is talking about adding in something to game that allows us to look back on recent matches and see the scores, personal stats…etc.. (Which would be EPIC).

I believe OP wants the total data from all matches (Including excessive data) released to the public so they can help fix the matchmaking system. So a 500-0 game…what resulted in that being a" legitimate" matchup and how can “what went wrong” be fixed.

Maybe I am all backwards on this whole post lol.

btw what a really dumb time to have the finals. why would you ask EU and NA to watch at such stupid times during the work week. this shouldve been done on a friday or saturday nigh.

Yes, a youtube upload of them, at the very least would be nice. ^^ That is what I have been saying ever since they told us the times. Logic; let’s make the tournament during the work week, so that the Countries this game was originally released to and most the fan base is in can’t watch. Great PR. Hope you got a lot of new Chinese purchases because you kittened off the rest of the world. GG
