The secret map of Maguuma [Speculation]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

I reckon more likely we could end up with a krytan or shiverpeaks map getting added next, we have good reason to go to both places (caudecus and that faction of the white mantle | the shiverpeaks bloodstone, thunderhead keep, braham, jormag).

The only reason that would necessitate another ring of fire map coming straight away would be to show even more focus on primordus but it doesnt feel to me like the story is going towards that angle of fighting just a single dragon

HoT would be much more fun if...

Goatjugsoup.8637

I dont think its fair to call it lazyness. Yes it is most likely to make it simpler to balance but it is probably just the difference between hard and nightmarish.

Already with all the default weaponsets, utilities and traits available across 9 different classes that is a lot to take into account especially if you are also thinking of group play and synergies that can happen between different classes.

Adding another traitline, 2-5 weapon skills and a full set of utility skills to the mix all per class (so x9) already adds a whole lot more to consider in regards to balance.

If they did not make such a limitation I think they would find that balancing would become exponentially more work with each lot of elite specs that got added

[Suggestion] Auto start HoT after LS2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

Been playing through the entire story on an Alt and noticed how handily as i finished the original personal story it auto set me onto the ls1 recap and then after that auto set me on to ls2. Have now just finished with ls2 and it did not automatically set me on to the HoT personal story which I think it would be real nice if it did.

Also dont know if it will automatically put me from the end of HoT on to ls3 but just in case that is not already a thing I’d like to tack that on to my suggestion as well

it does have the negative factor of instability particularly for the non host servers that are just getting punted around from server to server. although i dont have an idea on how it would be done i would like to see a more long term solution to fix the population issues

but yes +1 to this idea i like it. Also I think this would go in line with something like giving titles tiers of rarity and coloring them in the name plate to better distinguish between the titles

Flagging for open world pvp with outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ive also been thinking of open world pvp as well. perhaps it could be on a map with 3 entrances and the entrance you take determines your side. for example to take factions from gw1 if you entered from the left side of the map you could be aligned to kurzick and from the right size aligned to luxon. If you entered from the top of the map you could be aligned as ambassadors which would basically just have things be as they are now for you, no player fighting player

Free can not save GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

i would never complain about more stuff being added outside the gemstore stuff but to be honest i think they have been doing a fair bit of rewards through in game means. we have gotten new backpieces, 3 (i think) new armor pieces (which remember from their side is x3 for armor class, then x5 for races) a full weapon set (carnival) and at least 1 sort of on its on weapon (destroyer scythe).

theres probably other skins im not recalling right now as well, then theres also how quite a few mini pets are in the game now that you can get entirely through in game means.

remember this is all through free updates (and if you want to be smug and say it is part of what was promised with HoT then I would also stack every skin they added with HoT on top as well which was also quite a few sets).

[FEEDBACK] Rising Flames

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

awesome story, awesome map
was apprehensive about hearts but even those were implemented well. previously i didnt care about karma but now i actually felt like it was a worthwhile buy to get the new maps karma buff.

i LOVE how mini pets are more and more becoming something you can get through in game rewards (just one thing PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont make the inevitable aureen mini a gemstore thing… let us earn it)

in terms of the feeding hal achievement i feel like the intention is to make it something that has you coming back daily to do it a bit at a time, i reckon this could have been accomplished better by perhaps just having one apple you could get daily and maybe adjusting the number needed down a bit (for example to 30 instead of 50). in this way it would not feel so grindy and it could just be something people who care for it slot into the things they go for on a daily basis.
techincally you could do that as it is now but the fact that you can do more makes it feel almost obligatory to do as many as you can before you get sick of it for the day

i enjoyed the fractal jp, the ember bay jp not so much. reason is not because it is hard but because of how it is hard. you have very little if anything to go on in terms of where to go and visually the distinction between what you can actually jump/land on and what you can not is not so clear (which makes not knowing where to go even worse).

the overall experience ive had from the patch has been great, you guys did a really good job and i cant wait to see what comes next.

Fractal Relic Sink Needed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

I would say mini pets of various things within fractals would be a cool reward. Imagine a Jade Maw mini :O

A non RNG way to get gold weapons would be nice as well. Perhaps it could be something to unlock at beating scale 100 like how normal weapons unlock at 50.

Could also add an ally summoning item like fire ele powder or ogre pet whistle.

The fractal tonics that exist could be made available from vendor and if that was something the devs were dead set against for some reason perhaps a consumable version instead.

A home instance node perhaps like the guild hall synthesizers except that it does random materials. The more you upgrade it the more types of materials you would possibly be able to get from the node

Make Races Meaningful?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

WP on youtube had a pretty good idea regarding racial skills

First if you are of that race you get all their skills unlocked by default. If not you would have to unlock them perhaps through a mastery or perhaps through hero points.

Second if you are of that race you get all the flavorful elements of those skills when you use them, for example norns with bear form would be able to transform into a bear. If you are not of that race you can use the skills and get the same effects but just not the flavor elements of the skill. There was also precedent for that back in GW1 using the same example even you could get a bear form skill but you did not literally transform into bear form.

In this way the racial skills COULD be impactful and it would not mean the racial skills would be making the race a part of the meta.

Scarlet makes GW2 better

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

I think Scarlet was executed poorly in the story, it took way too long to learn why she was more than just randomness for randomness sake. Also we have the epic threat of the elder dragons and then just this random sylvari making alliances between various factions for….. reasons.

Yes they did tie it altogether eventually and retrospectively I like the story of Scarlet but the way it was told originally put me off so much that I actually stopped playing until season 2 of the living story when I found out from a WP video that there was a point to her after all.

New Zones, Big Events

in Living World

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

yes from the latest guild chat they did it sounded like the lesson they took from that was NOT to draw every single player into the same map at once and to try to spread them out a bit by adding content in different places. I do not expect anything like that to happen again, also while some people probably have good memories of attending that once only event I just have the memory of not being able to make it.

Also in my opinion I think there is only value in creating pre level 80 maps IF they are for new race. Even with the scaling system in place to keep some challenge to earlier maps there is still a stigma towards them that level 80s should be doing level 80 content as opposed to pre level 80 content

They tell me raids are toxic...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

The OP showed no evidence of toxicity. Rather, they demonstrated that they don’t understand how much work goes into making AB ML work in the first place.

Work? Bahahahaha. Setting up a multiloot squad just requires you to hit the “create squad” button and make a LFG named “meta multi”. There is no work required, everyone just sorts themselves out already.

And you only really need 2 maps in a squad if you have multiple characters already loaded into AB in order to get the most out of it. Load screens are the true boss of that meta.

Seems like you are also in that same group who dont understand. Setting up a multi loot is easy, maintaining it is more involved and NO you can not rely on people to sort themselves out, it does not work.

that would be terrible though if going to a low level zone made you exactly the same as a low level character. that is a thing i hate a lot in various rpgs that use scaling (although its normally on enemies scaling to your level as opposed to the other way around) is that it basically feels like no matter what you do you are still as weak as you started, all that leveling and nothing got any better or easier (so basically what was the point).

downscaling as it works now where yes your stats get downscaled but your other gains are still in effect is good. things are not one shot easy but you still have that feeling of progress having been made since when you started.

Design Issues in Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Goatjugsoup.8637

Goatjugsoup.8637

  • Volcanic: The corridor with the boulders in it is thematic but serves no purpose but making the fractal longer.

It serves as a breather between the first fight and the second. Also even though I wouldnt call it difficult its not like you can just mindlessly go down the corridor. I actually find it fun.

  • Uncatagorized: Giving the harpies knockdown at higher levels doesn’t make them harder, since you just respawn immediately. It just makes them annoying and forces needless repetition of the simple jumping sequence.

This one I think goes hand in hand with anets other method for increasing the difficulty per scale which seems to be largely just massively increasing their health pool. The idea of giving the harpies knockdown is fine on its own, it encourages making players use stability to get around it but when coupled with the much longer time to take down the harpies and the limited availability of stability on some classes it gets a bit unwieldy.

  • Swamp: The wisp segment is boring and serves no purpose, as it is neither hard nor a puzzle. It exists only due to the achievement for not hitting a trap.

Strongly disagree. It is a simple coordination check that gets more involving the higher the scale.

  • Aquatic Ruins: The darkness segment is too unforgiving of even a pixel stick worth of delay.
  • Aquatic Ruins: It is common for anyone having issues with dolphin or darkness to simply die on purpose so they will respawn outside the boss room, as long as one other person has made it. This encourages people to not care about these segments while placing a burden on those who do.

Again I have to disagree, the darkness segment if you are having trouble with it you can use your dodges as well to decrease the time it takes you. The dolphin segment you can actually push through it as a group by making use of the teleport and rezz skill you have.

  • Snowblind: Initial cliff descent serves no purpose but to increase the length of the fractal as nothing can happen unless the players ignore the bonfires, which can only happen the first time, and is needlessly long with multiple fires after the point has been made. Explanation of mechanics could be accomplished by walking directly out of the cave and to the big bonfire sequence.

The way it is now it is perfect at explaining the mechanic to players and it really isn’t that long at all. I disagree that just starting at the big bonfire sequence would work anywhere near as well.

  • Snowblind: The bonfire locations around the Source are difficult to see due to lighting, which results in many first-time players not realizing they are there and even experienced players having to reference the surrounding buildings rather than the bonfires themselves.

They are only difficult to see once that snow storm effect starts to happen and lack of visibility is the entire point of that snow storm effect. It is up to the players in the group to take note of their surroundings before the fight and if there are any experienced players to explain it to them. That long walk down the cliff at the start would have further impressed upon them even new players that they need to be looking for places to make fires.

  • Snowblind: The forest sequence is pointless as everyone just runs through it as fast as possible.

Its not pointless, its a breather between the two encounters. Plus even skipping mobs takes skill.

  • Thaumnova: The heat room is not doable by all professions without extreme skill, and some players are unable to do it at all, resulting in the possibility of an entire group being unable to progress.

There’s already a mechanic to make it easier, the cooling rods. Plus you are exaggerating by saying extreme skill is required, just knowledge of your class and its movement abilities and damage mitigation. You could even bring healing food.

  • Thaumnova: The pull exerted by the portals serves mostly to knock people off the catwalks, which is in general just annoying as they are forced to repeatedly walk back up. It only makes it actually challenging when it succeeds in pulling you into the summoned monsters.

Actually think about it. If it knocks 2 of the party off the bridge then the fight has just gone from 5 vs mobs to 3 vs the mobs until the rest of your party can make it back up. While you as the player who fell off may have felt it as a minor inconvenience it will make it more challenging for the people who did not fall.

  • Solid Ocean: Except when doing the achievement, the entire map is simply run through at top speed without fighting, making it pointless.

Considering it is a boss fractal that is where the focus should be, on fighting the boss, plus as I said above even skipping Mobs takes skill

  • Mai Trin: The entire boss fight is too long and depends too much mechanics that are not entirely under the control of the players.

No it doesn’t, that just demonstrates a lack of understanding how the fight works. Horrik does not fire at completely random locations and Mai does not randomly move about the map, it is based on player locations. If you don’t want Mai to move you all have to be really close to her and the same thing for Horrik firing his shot that makes Mai vulnerable. Ideally you want to be able to as a party dodge the fire blasts and lure Horrik into shooting the electric blasts at Mai.

Some of your issues are just not understanding how some of the fractals work which just seems odd to me considering other issues you raised seem to just be fractal fatigue and wanting each fractal to be over quicker (which would really be a detriment to the experience imo).
