Collaborative Development: Edge of the Mists

I think Shriketalon.1937’s idea and Yoh.8469’s would be really great additions to the game! They could even be merged together to make it more appealing to control surrounding objectives before taking a keep. Not only would this stop the supply chain, but it would also demotes the keep defenses.

Though I prefer Shriketalon’s idea, I think Yoh’s idea would fit if it doesn’t provides ALL the upgrades, but only supplemental upgrades which helps to defend the keep. If lost, you can still defend, but are more vulnerable to ambush. And those points should still be easy to defend (like a tower, not a camp). You could maybe even split the map in sections separated by walls and doors which can be destroyed or controlled via a nearby tower to advance further in enemy-controlled area.

So many good possibilities. But I love the idea of roaming to capture those points.

I main an elementalist since the game’s out.

I can clearly tell you that a Berserker elementalist should be avoided until you have all the tools available (gear, traits and skills wise) and with a minimum of experience playing an elementalist.

Elementalists requires a lot of movement. You have to move, dodge, boons/heal yourself and pop up condition removal/protection.

I started elementalist with a cleric gear and valkyrie trinkets. I suggest you go for PVT gear and Valkyrie trinkets (berserker would be good too since your gear provides a good amount of sustain).

As for traits, I go for remove conditions, healing/boons on attune swap mostly as elementalists have paper health and paper armor. If you go for full DPS, you will NOT be able to withstand anything without proper sustain! If I go full berserk with DPS traits, I mostly use staff and even then, I down quite fast if I get attacked. I mostly use it in WvW for huge DPS on zergs.

And also bear in minds dungeons are really easy with even casual level 80 players. If you are not a 80 fully geared, you will have a really hard time since dungeons are not really focused on the level they are. People will rarely grab a level 35 for AC as they are quite useless since the dungeon can be unforgiving. Yes you can, but it doesn’t mean you should. Though if you have fellow 80s friends/guildies that don’t mind a newbie, you could run it with them. You’ll learn and level up fast.

For the time being, just get Vitality and Toughness as much as you can.

The normal setup [DD] usually runs with:

  • AC: War/Ele1/Ele2/Thief/X, with X= Guard (p2), elsewhere, X= Thief2/War2 or Ranger.
  • CM: War/Ele1/Ele2/Thief/X, with X= Guard or Mesmer
  • TA: War/Ele1/Ele2/Thief/Guard
  • SE: War/Ele1/Ele2/Mes/Thief
  • CoF: War/Ele1/Mes/Thief/X, with X= Ele2 (most of the time), occasionally War2 or Ranger.
  • CoE: War/Ele1/Ele2/Thief/X, with X= any of War, Thief, Ranger or Guard.
  • HotW: War/Ele1/Ele2/Thief/Guard
  • Arah: War/Ele/Mes/Thief/X, with X = any of War, Thief, Ranger, Ele or Guard.

The better the individual, the less rigid the group composition becomes. For example, if every members of your group is really really good, you can go with 5 warriors or so.

Note for each class role:

  • Ele: Might stacking, FGS
  • War: Banner buffing, low cd Crowd Control
  • Mes: Pull, Reflect, Time Warp, Condi cleanse
  • Guard: Blind, Aegis, Reflect, Stability, Condi cleanse
  • Ranger: DPS buffing
  • Thief: Blind, Stealth, FGS holder, Crowd Control

You have way too many Thief in my opinion. I find thieves not really good in AC in particular.

My typical preferred group is :
Warrior (x2) for high DPS burst
Guardian (x1) to keep party alive (reflects, boons, heal, etc.)
Elementalist (x1) for support (heal, boons) and DPS (Frost Bow/FGS)
Any class here (x1) for various other roles. Thieves are very useful in CM for skipping, Mesmers in CoF, etc.

Even if that’s my preferred grouping, I rarely do it and just say “bring what you want” though I often ask for a Warrior and a Guardian at minimum (bear in mind I’m an elementalist myself). A might stacking S/F ele is good to have to.

I bought the Leather one, increased my Leatherworker from 400 to 500, crafted it, and moved it to my Warrior. It is account bound and backpieces do not have a light-medium-heavy restriction.

It was okay when it was introduced, because the prices would have skyrocketed and everyone would have it Day 1. But after 9 months, I think the time gating on these can be removed.

I have no problem with the ascended time gating, but time gating on Celestial is annoying! I am almost never charging them because it’s annoying to do it once per day. I’d prefer charging my stack the same day and be done with it!

Ascended Celestial have the worst time-gating ever.

Proposal Overview

Rework of current fractal drops/rewards

Goal of Proposal

Instead of giving all the reward at the end of the boss fractal (which encourage speed runs), give better loot during the fractals instead. Keep the current daily end reward and add the suggested drops in addition to it.

Proposal Functionality

One of the main problem in the current meta are the speed runs. Since it is the end reward that is worth getting (since most if not all drops are crap), make it more appealing to kill mobs to get loot.

Suggestions of changes:
- Reduce the rate of salvageables, junks, whites & blues
- Green items should be considered the basic drop for fractals
- Increase the drop rate of rare & exotics
- Increase the drop rate of precursors
- Add lootable ascended gear (weapons / armor / trinkets)
- Add T6 drops (Vicious Fang / Powerful Blood / etc.)
- Add Cores & Lodestones drops

Of course, this could scale with fractal levels, which means a fractal 50 might have 1% chance at a Core when a mob is killed, while a fractal 10 could be 0.20%.

This way, you could decide to play the way you want: either wipe all mobs for more loot (thus more chance at nice loot) or speed run through it for the end reward.

Also, the uses of glob/vial/shard of condensed mist should be increased. There should be more stuff to do with these, as I currently hate looting them in a fractal.

Associated Risks

Drop rates should be balanced to not ruin the economy, but I’m sure this would prove to revitalise the fractals with more interesting rewards (risks VS rewards).

Yeah sure, because they would gladly work at 2 A.M. to deploy the game for Europeans…

Since the game is deployed both for US and EU at the same time, they choose the best time frame for that. That being during THEIR working hours ( probably 8-9 A.M. to 5 P.M. PST). Sure they might work overtime to fix big bugs, but they try to deploy during their working hours.

Look at Europe/Asia based games if you want time zones closer to yours.

My god, people feel so entitled to everything. Until they change the core of the game and split US from EU deployment, it won’t happen.

But what about the 20 stacks of Leather Sections that I keep in my personal guild bank in case it goes up in price? They’re so useless right now that I don’t even care about crafting Elonian Leather anymore. I’m surprised there’s not more Leather destroyed. What about Bloodstone Dusts and Empyreal? Those craps drop way too much.

Heck, I even salvage green light amors (in addition to blues) for Silk Scraps since that crap is now worth a lot for a T5.

Having a mix of PvE in a “PvP”-type map is pure genius. There are no open world PvP, only WvW or PvP. So by mixing PvE in a new optional (optional is the word) WvW map, we get a lot more challenge and fun content. Imagine a zerg of about 40 taking on a boss and getting cut by another zerg who also wants the kill and both sides fight to the death to get the kill.

Just thinking about it, I’m in heaven. We’ll have to see, but since nobody is forced to play it, I think it will work pretty well to have PvE-type content in a WvW environment. Can’t wait to try it out.

Haha, that’s pretty funny. Anyway, I’m jealous because I keep checking out the skins to buy with fortune scraps at the Black Lion Weapons Specialists and wishing scraps still dropped. Would like to be able to nab a skin that costs 70g, haha. Good for your friend.

Most will probably return when the Bazaar returns. The same reason I’m not buying Celestial recipes is because they’ll surely come back during the Bazaar, which is in 3-4 months I think.

Not with the 9 second sigil cool down. You would need a 2nd set to swap to.

I agree that the air attunement on staff needs better DPS. Currently, it has too much CC (which are wasted in PvE). Water is in good standing I’d say and Fire needs a little something.

AIR:
Auto-attack needs to be faster, and maybe more single target focused.
Lightning Surge idea : approved!
Gust needs some damage to make it worthwhile in PvE
Static Field should damage when the foe cross the field (even with stability). Stability should only help on the stun part.

EARTH:
Auto-attack needs a buff to make it worthwhile. Currently nobody use this auto-attack as it is BAD. More vulnerability, more range and/or simply more damage is needed.

Well, it increased by removing the guaranteed Mystery drop (giving it a chance to drop instead). So you now have 2 chances to get a ticket instead of 1 per chest. I think this change was wanted by most people since the start of the game and I’m happy they did. I might invest in some keys to see how the drop changed.

The short ones are what I (and most people) will run in their daily run. Medium paths are what people will do for additionnal tokens for a specific dungeon. Long paths are for more dedicated players who wants a bit more challenge and well, Arah path 4 is the longest.

When I first started, I didn’t try Arah but I tried CoE and found it “impossible”. After learning how to do it, it is now one of my favorite and easiest dungeon.

With a bit of practice, everyone can do it easily. I’d suggest you master all the paths I’ve put in the “Short” list above. Then, you can enlarge your knowledge with more and more paths.

I’d rather just have token rewards be character bound again so that people will actually WANT to do dungeon paths more than once a day.

Those were good times. I miss those days, back when things made sense.

I totally agree. And that way people would also have more interest at classes other than Warrior and Mesmers (wink CoF). And that would put more uses to alts. Though the gold reward can stay account bound, the token reward is meh. I’d prefer it be character bound. At least I’d get something I can exchange for the time spent inside after the first run.

And it’ll also make it possible with 8 characters to get 8×60×3 tokens which is enough for 1 full set of exotic. ANet already stated Exotics are too easy to get. Why not make it so that we get more exotics to throw in the Mystic Toilet?

I’d say dungeon rewards should stay in dungeons. Just like how Glob of ectoplasms in GW1 were only found in UW. I wouldn’t wanted it in open world.

I think that’s a great idea.

I would also add that I envision the future of fractals to be something along the lines of 50 to 60 the instabilities become randomly generated. each run. and then from 60 to 70 say each shard. becomes random. It would offer a different challenge each time you go.

but that’s me and whishfull thinking.

I had originally been under the impression that the instabilities WOULD be randomly selected regardless of level, which would have made a lot more sense than the current system for reasons OP already mentioned.

No, because then people would reroll to get the easiest one. Though I think it could “appear” on the 2nd fractal (in the run of 4), making people either do the first one again or continue with that one.

But I think achievements and rewards for completing each Mistlock Instabilities would be a welcomed addition to the game.

But it says 25 for Artificer, though I’ve not even started it.

That’s why the color is white. For crafting disciplines you have learned, and have active(1), the color would be green (if your discipline level is high enough) or red (if it’s not).

(1)Remember, that while you can learn all the disciplines on one character, only 2 of them can be active at any time.

And that at level 400, it cost 40 silvers for each swap.

I’d suggest leveling 2 on each toon (4 toons) to make it cheaper to craft and it will also give about 14-20 levels on your toon.

I have one tab complete now since I’m out of karma (for obsidian shards). And since they nerfed karma farming, I’m having a lot of trouble to refine them. I get about 10 times more what I can refine. It’s just pilling up.

T7 mats are such worthless materials. We get way too much and they have not much use.

Infusing a 'skinned' back piece

I’d suggest infusing your backpack BEFORE applying a skin. It will save you a lot in the end.

That’s what I do. 250 Globs are nothing if you salvage all rares.

Though the process of splitting the backpack BEFORE upgrading it works too. It’s just an additional expense.

That would make the armor soulbound.

That is actually display only. It doesn’t actually become soulbound until it is equipped. It does become account bound.

No, he’s right. Applying any upgrades to an equipment makes it soulbound, even if it is not equiped yet.

Never ever put a sigil or rune before transferring the gear to the right character.

You gain 7 levels up to 400 (10 levels if up to 500) for 6 crafting professions (armorsmith, leatherworker, tailor, weaponsmith, artificer and huntsman).
You gain 10 levels up to 400 for 2 crafting professions (jeweler and cook).

In my opinion, Jeweler is really easy to level up if you have the materials already stashed though if the level 15 is the only one you’ve got, you probably have 0 material for higher tiers.

I’d suggest Cook and Jeweler with the guide on GW2Crafts.net. You might have enough to gain 20 levels depending on your amount of saved materials.

The guide also indicate how much it will cost by buying from the TP.

Defiant in Dungeons

There are 2 solutions to Defiant:
- Remove Defiant from mobs/bosses and replace them with “support” skills which they will use to cleanse/heal/etc. themselves.
- Change Defiant so that once maybe 4 (instead of 6) stacks are removed, it is vulnerable to CC for like 15 seconds before it regains its stack.

It would still make CC more useful.

Currently skills like Static Field or Unsteady Ground are 99.9% useless in PvE. I hate it. They really ought to change the Defiant mechanic or enable us to change CC skills for DPS skills.

Fractal Weapons

I’m talking about the fractal weapon BOXES (where you can choose the skin you want) that ANet said they would introduce to the game but ended up leaving it for fractal levels not available yet.

They did introduce them to the game, but are not currently obtainable. They might raise the current maximum level to a higher level now that ascended armors are out. Maybe they drop starting at 51 ? We don’t know… yet.

It’s a bit false advertising, sure, but they didn’t lie.

Level 80, now what?

I’d suggest Valkyrie+Berserker combination for armor. Valkyrie will give you more sustain while berserker increases your crit chance.

Though I have all theses on my elementalist’s bags (in invisible bags):
- Valkyrie
- Berserker
- Soldier
- Cleric
- Celestial

I swap armor depending on the encounter. I need more tankiness? I swap for soldier. More DPS? I swap for 100% zerker. More support? I swap for cleric.

It depends on your playstyle most of all. But Valkyrie is one of the must for elementalists.

If you do not want to spend all that hard earned gold for armors, there’s the karma vendors in Orr that sells one piece for 42k karma or run a few dungeons for tokens and buy the pieces with the tokens.

Most build are viable.
S/D is quite popular for might staking and huge burst (very good in solo and team play)
D/D is quite versatile and good melee support and DPS (very good in solo and team play)
Staff is useful for very long range AoE support/DPS (very good in team play)

Focus you’ll say? It currently is the most useless off-hand on elementalists. Until they buff it up, don’t mind it.

D/D in Dungeons and Fractals; bad idea?

I main a D/D elementalist and I have no problems in fractal. I’m a regular in fotm and D/D is quite good at supporting (with my aura/cantrip/attunement boons). Though you should learn to switch to appropriate long range weapon when D/D is not possible. I use staff as second weapon and sometimes S/D or S/F. It really depends on the encounter and the fractal level.

For exemple, the Elemental Source in the snowblind fractal is more easy to destroy with staff and Frost Bow (since it’s an immobile and inanimate object).

You can’t really stick to one weapon, you have to swap frequently out of combat.

    I’d like new accounts to be able to only whisper to “mutual friend list” (i.e. the other person added you and you added him). Might slow gold spammers in whispers.

Or add another option above “invisible” that:
1) You can interact with the guild (chat and PM, and everything)
2) You can interact with friends (chat and PM and etc.)
3) Other people can NOT interact with you (cannot send PM/Mail/etc.) unless “whitelisted” (already sent them a PM or something like that).

And I agree with most of the things the OP said.

Well, I did stop buying and farming keys. I now buy skins directly on TP with gold I farmed. I’ll no longer waste my hard-earned money for this random crap. In fact, I completely stopped charging gems with money, I only buy gems with gold now since I only buy 1-2 skins on the Gem Store here and there.

Well, what I hate from the BLC is that it drops crap items all the time. Instead of having 3 chances at a rare item, you get 3 crap Mystery Tonics and a useless booster (most of the time). Then you end up with only 1 chance at a valuable item and if you end up with some gifts or a 1 S item, then you lost a lot (considering the price of the key).

I’d prefer they rework the chest to continue to have a chance to drop those crap items, but the 3 items are now randomized and have equal chance at each drop. And one loot entry can loot once per chest.

Let’s say I open 1 chest, I could end up with:
- 1 Self-Hair style kit
- 1 Black Lion Ticket Scrap
- 1 Revive Orb

I hate that I have to absolutely get 3 Mystery tonics and 1 booster each time. It reduces my chance to get what I prefer to get. I’m out of revive orbs, I’d like more chance at ‘em. I need 2 more ticket scraps, I’d like more chances to get the 2 I’m missing.

Then I would be more willing to buy keys. Bought 1 pack of keys and lost a lot of gold on this. I should have bought my skin directly on the TP instead of trying to gamble it.

Currently, the chests are crap.

What I miss from GW1:

1. Hardcode instances (FoW, UW, etc.) and Hard more dungeons
2. Guild versus Guild
3. Capes
4. Unique items (that dropped from specific bosses)
5. Zaishan bounties
6. Classes (such as ritualist and monk). I’d love a smite monk with a bit of aoe healing in GW2.

Developing a “dungeon generator” would take several years of development since it is not built to be used by players. We will never see something like this on GW2, ever.

Your idea would not really work in the game.
