The concern right now isn’t the elite spec, its the bugs and traits in their current state.

Its the current PVP meta engi build. Which I don’t really agree with but meh.
The condi build utilizes fire/concussion bombs as pretty big parts of the build. Though of course you’re still using grenades and especially grenade1 filler.
Concussion barely has an impact, its only JUST optimal for the cast time.
As for Fire bomb, burning abuse, as mentioned. Burning is stupidly overtuned.
Engy currently has the highest sustained DPS in the game, (using bombs actually)
With Bombs? Based on what? The entire explosives (bar short fuse) is balanced around 3 nades vs 1 bomb.
Engy is one of the highest DPS classes in PvE, has a solid place in the sPvP meta, a secure spot as a WvW roamer, and also can be useful as a support caster in zerg fights.
Nope, nothing to be positive about here at all.
We could be BETTER, all Adept Inventions options are bugged in some way.
Minor traits in tools and Adrenal Implant dont stack, so taking adrenal implant renders 2 minors useless but still outperforms it.
Firearms is near useless.
Condition engineer and associated traits are a mess if you take away this burning abuse.
Magnet is one of our best skills but bugged.
Elixirs and associated traits have a number of bugs.
Pistol still not baseline stuff as promised.
Grenades or go home, no bombs for you because you will be gimping yourself to hell.
I could go on and on and on…
Honestly we could be so much better with a bit of attention from someone willing to fix these issues.

Yolomouse works REALLY well too. I know its not in game, but its extremely useful in PVP and WVW.
The question is if the amount of pre-made vs non pre-made games do have a big enough statistical impact to actually be a high priority problem.
I also hate fighting premades but I do not know how many percent of my games are actually done against premades. From my personal experience I’d guess a number around 5% (so ~every 20th gane) but don’t nail me down on that.
It is very annoying but tbh there are definitely more important problems in pvp than the match making if you ask me.
As I mentioned earlier, statistically it wold look fine, because the MMR system definitely compensates for it from game to game, but that just means you are constantly pinballing.
Its a simple argument you can add to matchmaking to not allow this to happen.

These threads keep cropping up, and the Leshinator keeps turning up to shoot them down. People need to learn that having a kittenload of losses in a row doesn’t mean that The System is conspiring against you. It’s just the way the game goes: combination of teammates’ performance, opponents’ performance, matchmaking, and how you yourself did.
And you need to learn that full premade vs no premade is a VERY BAD THING… No matter what justification you TRY to make for it, that one single fact alone, should be enough to warrant our concern, and its not the ONLY reason either.

I dont know how broken is the system, i seen here all the possible compinations i ruined team i have been ruined from teams , as solo i loose from premades i win premades , as premade i win solo i loose from solo teams, and i see all players that think that are pro and for their looses blaiming the noobs that arenanet put them to play with them.
This it exactly it though, its not about FACING or LOSING vs premades. It happens in your favour as well very often. Another reason why on paper the system must seem fine to ANET, even Evan’s response uses statistics to verify if its working or not, which if fallacy!
What statistics and win/loss does not show you is how ridiculously unbalanced teams pair up, MOST games end in 300+ point difference. This isn’t FUN or HEALTHY matchmaking even though the statistics appear consistent!
As an example, drivers often overcompensate for a mistake by turning the steering wheel too far, and this is exactly what this system is doing, it overcompensates for poor matchmaking by always giving in to extreme variations.
At least this is my observation.
OK, so after reading through this, is seems like someone was killed by a build that was essentially a hard counter for their own build so they had no response. Seems like what one should expect from time to time, there’s too many variances in the PvP metagame to be able to accommodate all threats and losing like this is to be expected.

there’s no point in playing the game until d/d eles and mesmers are nerfed. I actually picked up on this over a month ago in the top mmr bracket when all the esport kiddies started spamming their mesmers and eles. i decided to just take a break from the game. it was all mesmers and eles, played by very good players mind you so it’s not like we can armchair philosophize about “countering” these broken specs. pvp is pretty dumb right now and ive stopped hoping. still no balance patch since the spec revamp, ayy lmao. just play other games.
the main two problems:
1) amount of burn spam available to the ele
2) invis uptime too high for mesmersI don’t care about Mesmer’s burst, and I don’t care about the ele’s tankiness. but these specs shouldn’t have access to survivability, CC, sustain and insane damage.
Honestly i don’t think invis is the problem, mesmers just tend to have too mich defense for their high burst, their distortion allows for a whole 2 burst combos while being completely without restriction while doing it, there is very limited counterplay beyond dodge.
Their burst is just too safe when you consider invis + distortion + mobility.
Please stop whining about guards and that their burning shouldn’t be nerfed. If you can burst just as hard with 1 offensive stat as you would with 3 offensive stats and near zero defensive, there is something wrong.

Either rediculous burning skills need to apply fewer stacks, or burning itself needs toning down, i vote for the first one.

Engineers utility is on par with Guardian. Smoke fields for invis and blinds, fire fields for might stacking, a few reflects, although not as many, condi clear like guardian.
DPS is just below thief and ele, not as much burst, but dps is extremely consistent.
Just burst and stealth longer. If it’s condi Mesmer just give up unless you outnumber him…

So i decided to spend some more time on my thief since engineer is bugged to hell.
Struggling quite badly with mesmers and eles, I know that Ele’s should be avoided but historical I have never had issue vs mesmers on my thief.
The last few days I noticed that I am struggling A LOT vs them. It just feels like they always have distortion when needed and can ALWAYS counter burst me without fail, even when I bait CDs from their big skills like mindwrack.
What am i doing wrong? Any advice?

WEEEEELLLL should probably note dota balance is pretty poor too. At least its not near as buggy and better in every other way when it comes to competitive play.
Curious though, why not League? Competitively is the best of the best, a lot more balance, constant balance and fixing, constant improvement. Larger prizes but I would guess harder to “make a name” or make money in. Or is that the point?

The self skill interrupt I am referring to is the one where you put it on short CD and its obviously was pressed.
Celestial (at least with nades/toolkit) doesn’t work anymore since IP was moved from explosives to firearms, backpack regen was nerfed slightly, and overall everything does so much more damage now that celestial builds can only survive if they either have deathshroud (necro) or over 5K in healing every 9 seconds.
Plus the condi changes make the engis lack of “burst condi removal” a larger weakness. Yes you can trait into alchemy and run e-gun, but removing one condi at a time isn’t enough to deal with the condi bombs that most condi or even cele builds will put out. This means that soldiers with inventions and HT is pretty much mandatory to be survivable in this meta, and even then its still fairly condi weak despite the 25K health.
So basically cele is no longer viable on engi because in the past you could do tons of damage while being tanky, now you can still do pretty good damage, maybe even tons of damage on cele engi, but since everything else hits so much harder theres no point as you’ll die rather easily.
When starting to read this I tought I would disagree. But I agree completely but would like to add, the traits that made cele strong are split over more than 3 lines too.
Also unblockable skills and our access to mitigation(while being able to cast) is much weaker than mesmer distortion for example.

2. Closest meta we have is either soldiers or marauders. Nades, elixir S, toolkit and elixir X.

1) Rangers invuln is protect me, and it sucks because it instakills your pet. The signet isn’t an invuln, as it only prevents all physical damage. It is very different because they can still be cc’d, and conditions still apply. Signet of Stone is also on a long cd, justifying its 6 second duration. Warriors endure pain is similarly in need of no nerfs.
2) Burning could use a small nerf, and bleeding, poison, torment, and confusion could use a small buff. Probably back to the values they original values they had those conditions at.
3) At most, the nerf stealth needs is being revealed on block, blind or evade. Even that might be overkill.

Just because people quit a game or a mode doesn’t mean the relinquish all ties. Some still watch and hope for the fixes that would encourage their return. Some still stick around and voice their opinions in hopes for the fixes that would encourage their return.
I’ve always wondered why people would assume that because you quit you clearly have no place being on the forums discussing the game. One would think you would rather have these people lurking in hopes that the fix they were hoping for happens so they then return and bring more populace to that particular mode and the game in general.

Most of the time you will be blocking for 3 of the 4 second protection… So unless your allies are 240 range from you, it has no use.
Or do the collection that give you the Karma converter. and use that.
Considering the cost of the items in that collection, it’s better to just abuse the Mystic Forge tricks instead. -_-#

I agree with toning done invuln that allow movement and skillcasts at the same time.
But for that to happen, damage output in general needs to come down as well.
Engineer has pure damage output potential. Science is always better than magic.

If you enjoy the game by all means continue to enjoy and play it, it’s just there’s so much stuff wrong with PvP and after waiting many years for obvious fixes it’s clear there is no intention to bring this game to what it should be.

Go to gwskills.net and look up my flame juggernaut build. He can do over 60k damage in one hit. I once hit a boss for 100k.

Flamethrower auto is a continues hit that adds your damage up from the first hit to the last. It only resets if you stop attacking with AA for a second or 2.
If you use it on indestructible golems you can rack it up to the millions, does not mean your damage is that high.

The vast majority of guardians I run into in PvP (in the last 3 weeks) are in fact consecration burning guardians with sword+torch and great sword. After the ones I listed, the most common things I see (in no particular order) are:
GS/hammer warriors
elixer engineers
venom thiefs
power rangers
signet necros
Power necrosthe rest of the builds after these guys are non existent or once in a blue moon. Off the top of my head I’ve only ever seen 2 spirit weapon guardians, 1 deceptions thief, 3 scepter fresh air eles, 2 staff eles, and an assortment of other builds. I’ve never seen a single condition damage ranger in PvP in the entire 3 years I’ve been playing.
I find it hard to believe you don’t have DD ele or Mesmer on your list.
I see A LOT of Ele’s especially.
Almost never see engineers. Not counting double engi daily.
Im not much of a grenade user but aren’t you again pigeonholed into the explosives trait line (grenadier to essential) when you want to use grenades ? i vaguely remember they wanted to avoid that or something?
This is true. Grenades without grenadier suck, even though they feel kind of sucky overall since the mortar being introduced allowed them to nerf the nades range and field.
Grenadier should either do more, or just be baseline.
Also, the other big problem with explosives is shrapnel. The condi pressure from this trait is horrible, in part because bleed does too little damage in comparison to burn that does too much damage. If you don’t run mortar, you essentially have a wasted GM trait, since shrapnel and theromobaric both suck. In fact on most traitlines this is the case. In alchemy HGH is good, but with no elixirs, you don’t get much use out of the other two.
Anyway yeah, shrapnel sucks so bad, that incendiary powder should just be moved back there to replace it, and maybe a cele build can sort of come back again like it was prepatch, assuming damage reduction gets improved.
Maybe moving Shrapnel to adept, replacing Explosive Decent, and then IP to replace Shrapnel in Expl GM would be a good idea?
