A small range increase does not make up for the fact that you are totally vulnerable in the middle of a fight with bombs.
This does nothing to solve the problems Engineer currently faces. I am glad they fixed it but we are still SOL as far as professions are concerned. Once they nerf Ele and Mes we can talk about viable builds again. As it is now, Engi just doesn’t cut it. Alchemy is far and away the best line and is mandatory, Firearms is almost mandatory on power or condi, Tools is OK but the best GM trait breaks the minor (wtf), Inventions is just bad Alchemy and Explosives is 100% trash. Forge better bring some serious buffs.
Also, what about all the utilities that are totally useless right now?!?! Gadgets are total junk and so are Turrets (other than HT).
Please elaborate on why firearms is mandatory?

100 blades isnt the main source of warrior dmg.

Disagree. I think nades need to be nerfed to the ground and rifle, pistol, bomb and flamethrower adjusted to fill the space.
Grenades have had a deathgrip on our builds since release and it really needs to stop.
I don’t want to lose nades but I have always like bombs because they have the combo fields and added utility. THAT identity is really cool and was perfectly viable pre23rd.
After that though that identity vanished and bombs became a terrible and unreliable pick that its smoke, fire and immob/cripple could never make up for.
Why take AWAY diversity?
Give bombs some love and some people will run it just for the flavour and the extra utility.

Mesmer have way to much pressure and way to much instant invuln for the thief to get a good hit in.
IIRC, a Dev said they are looking to fix the issue with Quickness and Slow having unintended behavior. But it doesn’t seem you will see it anytime soon.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure it is intentional. Slow similarly increases leap range, and it makes sense mathematically.

the fact that most of our stealth are either clearly telegraphed or leave a giant pulsing area that we can’t leave, both of which invite AoEs like there’s no tomorrow (which, for us, there isn’t)
That is why it has a 21 second cooldown. Baiting the trait out is quite easy.
I just started playing thief a few weeks ago(engi main for near 2 years) and working around the trait isn’t that hard for me.
Just dont forget about it.
EDIT : I would like to add that yes, thief has its issues in the current state of the game, but this trait isn’t the reason for it. Right now eating even one decent AOE is bad on thief. The fact that it reveals you is just an afterthought as that AOE (reveal or not) forces you to disengage or stay in invis while recovering anyway.

So what’s wrong with healing by spamming your autoattack anyways? Is being unable to do sustained group heal at all a better alternative?
Not like its ranged, barely qualifies as an autoattack because you still need to look where you are placing it…
What we need is another trait in the adept explosive slot for bombs to be worth using above nades. Same goes for Grandmaster, but not as badly needed.
They will still be suboptimal cuz of the minors, but the adept should atleast partially compensate for it.
This goes against the whole movement impare does not effect mobility skills…
But a BOON negatively impacting movement it still broken? Come on ANET.

I may obviously be biased but Reveal skills should be at minimum 30 seconds CD. Anything lower than is unsustainable.
I don’t know, I think invis counter(in small amounts) are a good thing, I think the thief just needs different way of dealing with any soft of dmg sneeze in their direction.
This would make it less frustrating to be revealed.
A slightly larger health pool would be super helpful.

Wanted to pop in and say that you did fight premades a handful of times, but there was an almost equal amount of 3+2’s you fought as well. You also had some 4-queues on your team. There are many ways matches can be made, and you can’t always trust the party check.
There are some changes we are exploring that would further reduce the number of uneven roster sizes in matches, but nothing concrete on that yet.

I don’t think you can do be honest. This is one case of reveal being applied to someone without any skill. I wonder if that trait has Internal CD because it is quite unclear.
It says"_Lock On – Striking a foe in stealth analyzes them._" Is it following Analyze’s 25 CD or does the trait not have a CD at all? It does not say.
The moment you go into the tools line it drops to 21 and a 1/4 CD, that is the global CD for the reveal.
Got it, so pull out while revealed and let my poison do it’s dirty work. Is it uncommon for engi to have analyze slotted as well?
Extremely common in PvP, not so common in WVW but some still run it to try and standup to the mesmer hoards.
The reason its so common is because mesmers are so oppressive, thieves are getting the short end of the stick as a side note

Keep in mind this strat is ineffective vs elixir heavy engis. I have no idea how a thief would deal with them…
EDIT : Wait do you mean the utility skill analyze? Not at all, just teh trait is common. SOME SD burst varients will run the utility.

Engi main, the trait is on a ~21 second CD.
I find that when a thief needlessly invisses while still early in the fight, applies poison to me and then disengages for the reveal duration, I struggle!
The reason this works is engi’s have tons of AOE and its hard to “pull your punches” vs a thief because you tend to panic a bit.
That should buy you a good 15 seconds to deal dmg for freezies!
Wording is pretty clear.
If you ever played magic (card game) you would get it.
I do find it strange that ANET is using wording that is so specific, since it isn’t normally the case, but it must make balancing the engineer easier since people can not whine about stuff being bugged when it is working as intended.
Unfortunately engi STILL is bugged a lot, but that’s beside the point.
Problem is they can not wear shoulders at that level, so they lose on some defence.
Shoulders should be available from level1.
you don’t need shoulders, gloves and helmets for full defense.
chest, pants and boots are all you need.
I was under the impression that any armor peace that you can not hide provides you the added defense?

And then you realize while they cant indeed cap a point, you cant leave it either, espesially in 1v1 situation. Your choices are;
1. Have hope for someone to come up from your team and help kill him (SoloQ situation)
2. Get rekt on a point. Mes won and capped the point.The fact alone that you mention the ability to stealth while putting pressure on someone suggests that something is off here.

As someone that runs Engi most of the time, which is considered extremely weak to condition and ESPECIALLY to confusion, I can safely say this is an L2P issue.

I don’t see the elite spec having more support in any form… We have TONS of support potential with 2 of our traitlines.

Pretty much if a guy is doing dodge jump all the time which in combat is impossible to do it every single time.
So let’s say, you 1v1 someone and he’s using dodge jump often(have energy sigil+vigor) then he’s using a macro with 90% chance – there can be someone to do 5 in a row luckily, but doing 8~12 is pretty much impossible and repeating it in every combat.
Hence, anet should fix that dodge jump thing.

I ran cele for a while after patch, but have since moved to carrion. it just makes a more powerful FT rifle build. I’m enjoying the FT IP combo, burns burns burns so nice.

I would estimate 4/5 of my games are totally onesided. 1/10 are probably heavily one sided due to overwhelming premade on one side.

Im sorry Necromonger, i cant be on your side there. I have over 1k wins in rankeds, and im often “used” by anet as Counterbalance for my noobyBooBy teammates, i still manage to win about 70-80% of games i play everyday(as thief LoL). GW2 pvp is rly hard to be good at, you have to learn every class thier strenghts and weaknesess, 5 player stack often arent much better than pug, as long as you play your best you can easily win.

Double stacking on any 2 builds/play styles (with the excpetion of ele) usually loses you the game.
Thief is like perfectly designed for conquest, unless something majorly gutted it or they gave another class equal mobility/stealth it will most likely always be meta in PvP.
Mesmer can already out Stealth us and has more mobility, so yuh
NOTHING is more mobile than thief.
And Thief still has more on demand invis than Mesmer. Mesmer just has good duration.
